1. Erasmus+ Project 2014-16:
“Power up! Get active for your
future!”
1st Meeting, 22-28.1.2015,
Ioannina, Greece
EXPERIMENTAL
ZOSIMAIA JUNIOR HIGH
SCHOOL OF IOANNINA
6. 1-2. Weight and Height
We measure the weight (in Kg)
and height (in meters) of
students after they have taken
off their shoes and note down
the measurement in a notebook.
9. 3.Body mass index
We measure body mass index in
the following way:
BMI=mass(kg)/ (height) (m)²
10. C. FITNESS TESTS
1. Number of sit ups in 30 sec
2. Standing long jump (in cm)
3. Speed – a distance of 5 meters
covered 10 times (in tenths of a
second )
4. Five minute run (in meters)
11. 1. Abdominal exercise test (sit up)
in 30 sec
For the measurement of the sit ups the student sits on a
mat, feet flat on the floor with knees bent and hands
tied behind the neck, where they must stay throughout the
test. At the same time the assistant holds the athlete’s feet
on the ground. Students start from the sitting position,
then fall back to the mat ensuring that they lie on their
shoulders and return to the sitting position with
elbows touching their knees. The teacher measures the
number of correct foldings made within 30 seconds
13. 2. Standing long jump (in cm)
We mark a line on a mat. The students are
standing behind the line with feet slightly apart
and bending knees. After swinging their arms
back and forth, they jump as far as they can.
They must land on both feet and stand
up without falling backwards. We measure the
distance from take-off line up to the mark
they left on the landing on the back of the
shoes. Each student makes two attempts and
we record the best attempt in centimeters.
17. 3. Speed – a distance of 5 meters
covered 10 times (in tenths of a sec)
We engrave two lines with a length
of 1,5 m which are 5 meters
apart. Students run from the first line to the
second as fast as they can and pass the
lines with both feet. The test is completed
when the students complete the same
distance 5 times (10 strokes in total) and
cross the finish line with one foot. The
result is measured in tenths of a second
(e.g. 15,6).
18. 4.Five minute run (in meters)
The distance covered in that time is
recorded for each student in meters.
19. Final results
The results of these tests may be kept in the
students’ electronic portfolio so that they and
their parents are aware of their physical
condition. For our survey we can compare the
results of the somatometric and fitness
measurements between schools, gender and
ages. Also, we can process the results from
the survey of the food habits to find if there
are connections. A software that could help us
for the results and the graphical presentation
is EXCEL.
21. • In the category gender we wright B for
the boys and G for the girls.
• Please note that for the EXCEL
Software we use comma and not dot.
For example 1,63 and not 1.63 (height
measurement) or 15,63 and not 15.63
(speed test).
• For the sit ups please count the correct
repetitions made within 30 seconds.
• Τhe BMI will be processed from the
Greek team.
