THE CAPITAL
• Hawaii is a U.S. state; the only one which
is in Oceania. It is the only state made
only of islands. Hawaii is also the name of
the largest island. The capital and largest
city of Hawaii is Honolulu on the island
named Oahu.
History of HAWAII
Hawaii is known as the "Aloha State". Aloha is
a Hawaiian word that has many meanings like
welcome, hello and goodbye. Aloha also means
love and care. The different meanings are
brought together in the term "Aloha Spirit" to
describe the friendly people of Hawaii

History
The name Los Angeles comes from the Spanish language, and it
means "The Angels". The name is an abbreviation from the
original name of the place. The original name is "El Pueblo de
Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles del Río Porciúncula“.
Los Angeles was founded in 1781. Los Angeles was home to the
Olympic Games in 1932 and 1984. Twice the city broke out in
riots, in 1965 and 1992, both caused by anger between people
and the city police. In 1994, an earthquake killed 72 people and
damaged many buildings.
Los Angeles is a very large city, and the edges of the city
are very far from the center, going from the beaches to
the mountains. The Santa Monica Mountains run
through the city, separating it into the San Fernando
Valley to the north and the Los Angeles Basin to the
south. The Los Angeles River also runs through the city
some 51 miles (82 km).

The White House is the home and main workplace of
the President of the United States. It has been the
home of every U.S. President since John Adams.
Many people make demonstrations in front of the
White House.

• The Pentagon is the headquarters of the United States
Department of Defense. It is in Arlington, Virginia (near
Washington, D.C. It is in the shape of a pentagon. It has seven
floors. There are 23,000 people working in it.
• The Pentagon is the biggest office building in the world, but any
place in the building can be reached within 7 minutes.
• They began building it on September 11, 1941. Exactly sixty years
later, on September 11, 2001, it was hit with an airplane by
terrorists.

Nevada. There were 567,641 people living in the
city in 2009. It is the biggest city in Nevada.

Las Vegas is also well known by the casinos, many of which are

the most famous casinos and hotels are Paris Las Vegas, New
York, New York casino or Luxor Las Vegas.

The most interesting place near LAS VEGAS is THE GRAN
CANYON.
It’s a famous canyon in Arizona, formed by the Colorado
River. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a National
Park. It is also one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the
World.

Alaska is one of two U.S. states not bordered by

Alaska is the biggest state in the United States but it has few
people. Alaska has almost 20% of all the land in the U. S., but
only about 0.2% of the people.
Alaska has many glaciers, some of which are can be
seen from passing cruise ships. Some are coastal, and
others are not by the ocean.
It is a popular tourist destination, as there is a very rich
culture along with beautiful scenery. There are many
wild animals in Alaska. Some of them are the brown
bear, the moose, and the wolf.

New Orleans is a multicultural city in the
South of the United States.

Mardi Gras is the name of the carnival held in New
Orleans, Luisiana, Mobile, Alabama and San Luis.
During Mardi Gras, almost everyone takes part in
celebrating with parades and parties.
The Hurricane Katrina
• On August 29, 2005, New Orleans was affected by Hurricane
Katrina which flooded most of the city when the city dikes
broke. After Hurricane Katrina, many people who lived in the
flooded city moved to other places in the US. Many people
were afraid to move back. Their jobs and homes were gone
and their possessions were lost.

Chicago is the largest city in Illinois, USA. It is the third largest city in the United
States. Chicago is next to one of the five Great Lakes, Lake Michigan.
In the 2000 census, almost 2,900,000 people lived there, with six
million more people living nearby.
The city also has about 300 bridges. Chicago is sometimes called
the "Windy City". The city was founded by Jean Baptiste Point du
Sable.
In September 2013, the FBI named Chicago "The Murder Capital of the
United States" with 550 murders recorded in 2012.
Chicago has a very well-known culture. Some of the many things
Chicago is famous for are: Chicago-style hot dogs, Chicago-style (deep
dish) pizza, Maxwell Street Polish Sausage, jazz music, and
1920s gangsters like Al Capone.
