The goal of Student Support Services is to assist
you by providing comprehensive Free services
to help you to maximize your potential. Pursuing
a college degree presents new and exciting
challenges. It takes hard work and some
sacrifices, but the benefits are worth the effort.

For more than 30 years, America’s federally
funded TRIO Programs have been helping
students from low-income families to finish high
school, enter college and successfully graduate.
Today, more than 2,600 TRIO Programs serve
nearly 823, 000 students.

Achievement
10. TRIO TALENT SEARCH
Talent Search programs serve young people in
grades six through twelve. In addition to
counseling, participants receive information
about college admissions
requirements, scholarships and various student
financial aid programs. This early intervention
program helps young people to better
understand their educational opportunities and
options.
11. TRIO Upward Bound
Upward Bound helps young people and adults
prepare for higher education. Participants
receive instruction in
literature, composition, mathematics, and
science on college campuses after school, on
Saturdays and during the summer.
12. TRIO Educational Opportunity
Centers
Educational Opportunity Centers located
throughout the country, primarily serve displaced
or underemployed workers. These centers help
people to choose a college and a suitable
financial aid program.
13. TRIO Student Support Services
Student Support Services helps students to stay
in college until they earn their baccalaureate
degrees. Participants, who include disabled
students, receive tutoring, counseling, transfer
assistance and remedial instruction.

Ronald E. Mcnair Post-Baccalaureate
Achievement programs encourage low-income
and minority undergraduates to consider careers
in teaching as well as prepare for doctoral study.
Students who participate in this program are
provided with research opportunities and faculty
mentors.

16. TRIO SSS Academic Advising
Advisors work one-on-one with students to
improve academic performance and successfully
complete their goals. They also help with
registration and degree audits.
17. TRIO Cultural Enrichment Trips
SSS participants experience free cultural enrichment
trips which may include free
transportation, shows, and food (if applicable).
18. TRIO SSS Financial Aid
Guidance
Advisors are available to assist students with
questions and concerns arising from financial
services. Students also are given access to
information about scholarships and grants.
19. TRIO SSS College Textbook
Referral
The SSS Program provides participants with a
referral to The Center for Women and Men
lending library. Eligible students may borrow up
to 3 college textbooks free of charge for the
semester.
20. TRIO SSS Peer Mentoring
Program
Former and current Student Support Services
participants provide mentoring and support to
help SSS students adjust to college life.
21. TRIO SSS Personal and Career
Counseling
Advisors assist students in finding solutions to
personal problems and developing an
awareness of educational and career goals.
22. TRIO SSS LOT (Leaders of Tomorrow)
Club
The SSS LOT Club’s mission is to promote
educational excellence, by fostering a sense of
community through positive personal and
professional relationships and by providing a
strong support structure to reinforce the overall
goals and objectives of TRiO while building
character, integrity, and vision for our leaders of
tomorrow. To join the club, you must pay $8
dues each semester.
23. TRIO SSS Summer Bridge Experience
This program is designed to provide students
with a head start into the college
experience, create a sense of community, learn
tips on good study habits, and gain information
and support services to stay in school.
24. TRIO SSS Supplemental Instruction
Referral
Program staff will refer appropriate students to
the College’s Supplemental Instruction
program, which provides extra weekly instruction
focusing on more difficult subjects.
25. TRIO SSS Transfer Assistance
Campus visits, academic guidance and
information are provided to ensure students
transfer to a four-year institution.
26. TRIO SSS Grant Aid
Additional supplemental money may be
available to active SSS members who are Pell
grant eligible.
27. TRIO SSS Tutoring
Trained peer and professional tutors are
available to provide help with one-on-one and/or
group tutoring in several subject areas. In our
tutoring lab, you will find an environment where
students feel valued and supported.
28. TRIO SSS Workshops
Numerous workshops are provided to enhance
the academic skills of Student Support Services
participants. Topics include:

Computer Software Workshops
Stress Management

29. TRIO SSS Weekly Updates
Weekly emails (sent to your FalconMail) will be
sent to each student to give updates about
scholarship opportunities, workshops, cultural
enrichment activities, campus visits, club
meetings, and other important dates and events.
31. 3 Main Responsibilities
#1 - You Must Meet with Your TRIO
Counselor:
A minimum of two times a month (first year students;
30 credits and below)
or
Three times a semester (second year students; above
30 credits)
Your counselor can provide help with academic/career
counseling and/or transfer assistance. Note: counseling &
transfer visits may increase based on academic need and/or the
implementation of action plan.

Attend one cultural enrichment activity a
semester. You can either travel with TRIO or
attend an approved cultural activity on your own.
Cultural Trips are posted each semester.

Participate in two workshops each semester.
All active SSS participants are required to attend
one lecture and one online workshop as part of
their educational plan each semester.

35. National TRIO Day
Held in February each year students and graduates from
the Daytona State College TRIO Student Support Services
Program show their appreciation and support for our
nation’s TRIO Programs. For millions of Americans from
low-income families who have college potential but lack
the ability to go it alone, federally-funded programs called
TRIO are making a world of difference.
