Intend or Purpose 
• A control system consisting of interconnected 
components is designed to achieve a desired 
purpose. 
• Concept of control system is used in various 
applications like space vehicles, satellites, guided 
missile. 
• Control systems are now integral part of the 
modern industrialization, industrial process and 
home appliances.
Design of Control System 
• Basic of control system 
1. Open loop control system (without feedback) 
Ex:- Immersion rod 
2. Closed loop control system (with feedback) 
Ex:- Air conditioner, refrigerator , washing 
machine, Water level float regulator etc.

(a) Automobile 
steering control

(b) The driver uses 
the difference 
between the actual 
and the desired 
direction of travel 
to generate a 
controlled adjustment
