Serving (and leading) is not popular, because
it is exacting and hard to attain. But it is highly rewarding
and fulfilling when it is done well
25. Recap of Learnings
Don’t judge other leaders, just serve your people
Serve people like your kids, selflessly, thinking about them
before yourself
Working agreements/ working alignments : Don’t let
any team live without them
Be observant and keep an eye on body language of your
people
Don’t be a ScrumMum, it makes people dependent
26. Recap of Learnings
Personal Behavioral Model
Inclusiveness in culture is critical
Servant Leadership beyond an Organization
Don’t forget to give credit to someone else, in success stories
AND…
I use this funny way of introducing myself. I am neither this cricket player, nor this Santoor player, eventually we share same name and surname. And I am passionate about these two activities, sports and music

In next 40 minutes, I will share my experience of various aspects of Servant leadership
I speak about the History of servant leadership quickly, that its not a new concept, in fact its around 49 year old concept, only for last yew years, people have started recognizing the importance of servant leadership and a lot of people around the world have started practicing it
I start with above 6 properties from the book, a servant leader must carry.
I will speak about what Doctors teaches us, from my experience and what I have learnt from my uncle, who is a Neuro Surgen.
We all have parents or some of us are parents too.
Do we remember the kind of sacrifices they have done for us? Do we remember
I speak about every single above points, what parents do for us, or what we try to do for our kids
Ex - If you have to go to gym and at the same time, you have to take your kid for swimming classes, which one will get preference
As a parent, I think we showcase one of the biggest example of servant leadership, when we actually forget ourselves to serve our kids
Two teams of 13
Who wants to be boss, I want one boss
Stand everyone in a circle facing inwards
Boss stands outside the circle
Round 1 – Manager need to tell what each person needs to do to create a circle
And then I will replace family, by a team, and I will compare exactly how a servant leader need to behave like a parent, giving different examples for each point
Have you heard about “Distributed Leadership”? Yes, no? Lets talk about it
Have you heard about “Breathless Leader”? Yes, no? Lets talk about it
How working agreements acts as a “Breathless Leader”. I will explain it
I call working agreements, a “breathless leader”.
I will explain why setting them upfront and keep evolving them is vital for the success of any team.
Have you heard about “Distributed Leadership”? Yes, no? Lets talk about it
How many of you are in leadership role, team leads, Project Managers, Scrum Masters?
Have you faced this ever?
If we keep doing this what are we creating? “Dependencies”
This model can be used while taking any important decision, to resolve conflicts and in our behavior in any situation.
I have named it “Personal Behavioral Model”. I have used this model in various situations and it helped me.
I will speak on why “Inclusiveness” is important for each team member, from a leadership point of view.
I will give examples from two different organizations where I worked, and how inclusiveness makes a difference
I will give some ideas, how a person can become a servant leader beyond their organizations
I will take an example from my organization – Think Agile, where we have started a program “Neighborhood Program”, and how we are serving agile community of South Africa, as a leader.
I am going to play a 2.5 minutes video from a Rocket scientist and how head of a Space Research organization showcased servant leadership in case of failure as well as success
And then I will add points from my experience on servant leadership, to the points which I derived from book, based on what we discussed some time back, in the session
Quick recap of learnings to remind how a Servant Leader need to be.
My final message to the attendees. Believe me, you will feel awesome, if you do so.
