Chivalry is slowly dying and we need to bring it back into today's society. In modern time the
chivalry code is not being used like it was in the middle ages. Chivalry once reflected the values
and ideals of the knights. Usually these values exhibited kindness towards all women. Ways of
bringing back chivalry would be to use the code of chivalry when the knights were around . This is
what we need in today's society.
In today's culture the crime rates throughout the United States has skyrocketed in recent decades.
The homicide rates between different races has gone up in 2007. Homicide rates for black, non
Hispanic, men age group 0 to 4 is 10.1 percent. Homicide rates for white, non Hispanic, age group
0 to 4 is 3.0 percent. In the 1960`s the violent crime rate was lower than 2003, with a 160.9 to 475
rate. In 2003 property crime rate was higher than theft rate, with a 3,588.4 to 2,414.5 rate. Since
1991 murder and robbery are up nearly 5 percent. In 1994, 300,000 inmates in 15 states were
released. These inmates were released due to a tendency of a convicted criminal re offend. First
offense fraud convictions served 1.5 years.

the ten commandments it says thou shalt defend the church and thou shalt never lie. People use to

Chivalry, as defined by Encyclopedia Americana is a system of values and ideals of conduct held by
knights in medieval Europe. In its institutional form, chivalry was an informal, international order to
which many, but not all, of the ruling class (nobility) belonged. The word is derived from the Latin
caballus (horse) through the French chevalier ("horseman" or knight). Chivalry was born from
Feudalism in the late middle ages introducing a new, feminine point of view stressing virtue and

One of the most influential women of medieval times was Eleanor of Aquitane. She greatly
contributed to the growth of Chivalry and Courtly Love. She was married several times, first to
King Louis VII of France and then to King Henry II of England. Her travels allowed her to be
influential to both countries. Even before her marriages she owned great amounts of land,
making her very powerful. This was a rarity for a woman in her time and she was not afraid to use
her power to gain advantage. She at one time accompanied her first husband, Louis VII, on his
second Crusade contrary to what the church (ruling government at the time) said. Poets received
encouragement from Eleanor to write poems and sonnets from a womans point of view, this was
also unheard of before the late Middle Ages. During her marriages, there were rumors of affairs
had by the "Great Queen". Along with her plans to lead her sons in a rebellion against their father,
these rumors were enough to cause Henry II to lock Eleanor away as a punishment until the time of
his death. During the reign of her son King Richard, Eleanor started the "Courts of Love" which
contributed to giving women a higher standing in society. The "Courts of Love" were a gathering of
enthusiastic young women who debated and ridiculed the ideals of love presented to them by poets

Leonidas meets a hunchbacked Spartan named Ephialtes who wants to fight with the Spartan
army to redeem his family's honor. Even though Leonidas feels sorry for Ephialtes, he does not
let him join the army because he cannot hold a shield, which could cause the Spartan formation to

King Arthur feels obligated to take the challenge, seeing that no other knight has accepted, but
Sir Gawain intervenes. Sir Gawain explains to King Arthur of the reason for his decision to sacrifice
himself and save the noble king: "The loss of my life would be least of any; that I have you for
uncle is my only praise; My body, but for your blood, is barren of worth" (PG 1467 line 356–358).
Sir Gawain does honor to the court of Camelot when he decides to take the place of a needed leader
in the deadly challenge. His honor here is in the fact that he realizes he is not as important as the
king, and so Sir Gawain takes on the burden. Today, modern teachers and professors show the same
honor when they forsake the higher–paying jobs that are offered to them in order to teach and
instruct the leaders of tomorrow. They realize, like Sir Gawain, that the human race is more
important than their own ambitions, and so they sacrifice all of the renown they could achieve to

The Dark ages also know as the Middle ages were a time when medieval literature started. What is
medieval literature? It is a broad subject about all the written works available in Europe. The funny
film Monty python recreates the Arthurian stories. This film made fun of the circumstances during
Middle Ages told through the story of King Arthur( Morte d'Arthur) and framed by a modern–day
murder investigation. All of the knights were sent on a quest to find the Holy Grail facing a bunch of
obstacles mentally and physically. The king of the Britons (Arthur) lead his knights through a
persistent Black Knight, Three–headed giant, an old man guarding the bridge of death, a shrubbery
challenge, the Castle Anthrax (house of the virgins), rude Frenchman and a killer rabbit.
Throughout the film and story of Morte d'Arthur we see themes and codes of chivalry being
mocked. We see examples of loyalty, bravery, knowledge, modesty, and honesty, which are all
expectations of knightly behavior. The knight's loyalty and bravery are constantly being tested on
their quest to find the Holy Grail. It is their duty as knights to continue on their journey and to follow
the chivalric code, but can they do it? On their quest some of the knights received same flesh wounds
and even death. On King Arthur's quest he comes across the Green Knight and the Black Knight
fighting. It is a tough and respectful battle but unfortunately the Green Knight dies. King Arthur
respected the Black Knight and wanted him to be apart of his group of the knights at the round table.

the theme of bravery being mocked during this battle because the Black Knight was losing but
would not give up. Arthur sliced off all his limbs yet the Black Knight still wanted to keep going.

film they make a joke of this because the Black Knight was limbless and still wants to fight KIng

In this technologically advanced world, there is an element that is missing. In everyday life, there
used to be chivalry: holding open doors, pulling a chair out for a woman, and even the phrase
ВЁladies go first.ВЁ Chivalry is courteous acts and gallant behavior, especially toward women, also
known as the gentleman. There are very few modern gentleman and that is the problem with today's
world. Not to mention, all of society has lost respect for each other. There are three main reasons that
chivalry has disappeared, the addiction to social media, the general lack of manners, and finally,
women themselves. There is no way to solve a problem that no one cares about. Unfortunately, not
a whole lot of people care about chivalry, and the basic respect for all men. Ergo, there is no
guaranteed solution, but maybe if the general public agree to teach some sort of chivalrous content
in public schools, we could start something big. The first reason that there are very few gentleman
left, is the fact that this generation relies so heavily on social media. According to a study from the
family technology education non–profit group, Common Sense Media, ВЁteens are spending more
than one–third of their days using media such as online video or music – nearly nine hours on
average,ВЁ therefore people are distracted by their devices. Individuals spend so much time on their
phone, that they do not feel like talking to people–they would rather text. Even so, there is no worry
