Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is an approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy created by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in California in the 1970s that views a person as a whole mind-body system with patterned connections between internal experience, language, and behavior. NLP focuses on teacher-learner relationships, sensory imagery, and assumes skills, beliefs, and behavior are all learned. It aims to help with interacting with others, personal development, and state management through techniques like creating rapport, mirroring, creating positive states, and anchoring.
