some added. When they added the Lady in it made the story more interesting. It was more
suspenseful because it felt she was slowing Rainsford down and you weren't sure if they would get
killed. An omission that took away from the story was that Ivan did not hold the gun to Rainsford's
heart in the beginning. So Rainsford did not know what was coming until later and it was not as
suspenseful during the beginning of the story. These additions did effect the theme it made it even
more known that animals feel pain and fear when hunted.

Unwillingly, Rainsford picks to go hunting and hopes to survive the three days.
If he did live, he would be set free with money and new clothing, so Zaroff says...
On the hunting trip, Rainsford successfully avoids Zaroff for three days by hiding and setting up
traps, then he pretends to go to sea by freeing the boats.
Finally, he sneaks into Zaroff's room and hides there until Zaroff arrives.
Eventually, he confronts Zaroff and fights him to his death. After that,
Rainsford gets the best night sleep he has ever had.
I feel that Richard Conel tried to express a feeling of change within the character's mind. Before
Rainsford was ever hunted, he was cruel to animals.
He would hunt them just for the fun of killing them. Rainsford had no sympathy for animals before
he encountered Zaroff.
During the middle of the story, Rainsford becomes the next prey of General
Zaroff. Due to the stress and the feelings of fear, I think Rainsford might have changed his mind
about animals and how they feel.
After this event, I know that Rainsford has now become sorry for his ideas about animals and how
they should be treated. I know that Rainsford is a dynamic

"The Most Dangerous Game" Mini Essay
Summary
Rainsford becomes stranded on Ship–Trap Island while on a voyage with his friend. Rainsford was
found and taken to Zaroff, the owner of Ship–Trap Island. Zaroff told Rainsford his game of hunting
humans for amusement. The next day Rainsford thanked Zaroff for letting him rest and said he
must leave. Rainsford was told he was not allowed to leave until he played the game. Rainsford
managed to kill Zaroff's dog and partner, then escape. Zaroff leaves assuming Rainsford's dead only
to find him in his room. Rainsford then kills Zaroff. (90)
Analysis
Richard Connell uses the theme of never underestimating people. This shows the reader not to
assume the capabilities of another because their actions may just come to a big shock in the end.

Connell did an outstanding job on writing vivid details and giving the feeling of true terror shown
by Rainsford. For example, when Rainsford was caught by Zaroff and "every muscle tensed like a
spring." The plot was believable yet at the same time was not. In other words, it is slightly like an
urban legend. The novel sounds more like a myth that said by sailors. Connell's story was also very
well– written. There was just one matter. The story can go furthermore. There wasn't really much
of an ending, more like a cliffhanger. Maybe that was the author's goal but there needed to be some
kind of closure. How was Rainsford going to leave? Why hadn't Whitney come to look for
Rainsford? Other than that there were no other problems in the story. Only a minimal of the
passages were confusing but nothing to write about and everything was put together thoroughly.
Connell did a wonderful job on the theme that I wrote about. He made his point and got his message
out. Overall the story's great and I hope to read more like this in the future.
