Solution
Personal interview would be most valuable for predicting effective job performance for a
college professor but for an assembly line worker in a manufacturing plant, assessment center
must be used. An assessment involves various evaluation techniques like interviews, job related
simulations, group discussions, psychological tests, fact finding exercise etc. In an assembly line,
a worker needs to be more skilled and tactful in his work. He must be proactive and hence he
must be evaluated in a situation mush familiar to his working conditions at the workplace. But a
professor needs to use his intellect and knowledge while delivering lectures in the class. The
professor must be interviewed thoroughly so that his in-depth understanding of the subject matter
can be well evaluated. Through interview, his communication and presentation skills can also be
evaluated. These skills are very important to deliver an effective lecture and to make students
understand the subject matter clearly.
