Management education in india
1. Management Education in India
History is turning a page. India is all set to transform itself into a powerhouse economy which
will be instrumental in driving world’s economy forward. Some of the most important reasons for
the same include: extremely young population when compared to the world, skilled and trained
workforce and last but certainly not least – new government’s policies in helping businesses set
their bases in India and also helping Indian entrepreneurs in kick-starting their business dreams.
New government’s “Make in India” campaign has been aimed at boosting manufacturing sector
which in turn will be responsible for creating thousands of jobs.
Sweet stuffs? Eh?
It’s indeed an awesome piece of news for all the graduating as well as recently graduated students
from management institutes across the country.
According to the recent research conducted by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE),
India has around 3400+ institutes which offer MBA or PGDM program. A lot of the programs offer
generic MBA but quite a few are letting the students specialize into niche streams say family
business management, sports management and agriculture management etc. The essence is that
with time, things indeed change and the same is reflected into management education in India as
well.
In this new era of business, new rules are being applied to do the business in majorly a digital
world which moves at the speed of thought. To keep up with the change, country has top MBA
institutes which are providing cutting-edge, research-led programs for next generation leaders and
managers. These programs have been designed and redesigned after taking into account the
requirement of blue chip firms, SMEs – domestically and internationally. The result is extremely
practical, application-oriented knowledge product i.e. MBA and/or PGDM which will churn out next
generation managers capable of dealing with next generation problems.
As mentioned earlier, apart from top business schools, there are hundreds of schools which provide
premium quality management education. The state of Maharashtra has seen quite a few top-notch
B-schools coming up who are all set to challenge premier B-schools of India.
My recent visit to Nashik has allowed me to foray into the world of B-schools where I happened
to visit top MBA colleges which are redefining management education for once and all. With
international quality infrastructure, international student body, top-notch industry experts in the
faculty wing and high level of industry-institute interactions, guest lecturers from eminent
industrialists making the MBA education a truly global affair.
I can safely conclude that like other places in the country, Nashik indeed has great options for
aspiring management students. I encourage prospective students to become very active in doing
the research which should ideally include the type of college, teacher-student ratio, curriculum,
availability of internships, extra-curricular activities, guest lectures and other events organized by
the college as with the new business era at the doorstep, things have dramatically changed and
hence student’s approach towards the whole admission to education process needs to be
changed.
