Hello, I am Sandi Suda, communications specialist for Information Technology Services (ITS) at USG, here to talk to you about the University System of Georgia search engine for online programs and courses, Georgia ONmyLINE.
What is Georgia ONmyLINE?
Georgia ONmyLINE is a really useful resource for yourself, adult learners, and other students. It’s like I said before, a search engine for online programs and courses offered within the University System of Georgia. USG is all of the state institutions in Georgia.
That’s what it is at the very core. But our site has many purposes and there is so much more.
One of the biggest goals of Georgia ONmyLINE is to provide a single place for information.
When someone comes to Georgia ONmyLINE, this is all the information they can get about a program or course. From tuition, to admission information, to service member information, we want to share it all.
Our second goal is to promote our institutions. We provide a place for institutions to share information, we promote students, faculty, programs, courses, and more. And we share all of that information out to the public via social media.
As you know, online learning is a great opportunity for many to get their degrees in an environment and system that is better for the lifestyle needs.

High School Graduates
Current Students
Probably out biggest audience is the Adult Learner.
One Adult Learner we have featured is Heather Herbert.
Dalton State, Two Associate’s degrees online
Had an online student worker job in their online writing center
She involved at the school as a member of two international honor societies, Phi Theta Kappa, and an honors literary society, Sigma Kappa Delta.
Have had many recent updates:
Mobily responsive. Take out phones and tablets now if you want to try this while I’m talking. Go to www.georgiaonmyline.org. You can down search and read information on our website from any computer or mobile device.
From search pages and features pages, people can also share information on social media from their mobile devices. So, let’s say you are searching and come across a program that you think a friend or coworker or family member might be interested in…you can share that information with them via email or social media.
We also created a style guide to help maintain our brand image. It goes into detail about how to use our logo, fonts to use, color palette, and more. It includes flyers, postcards, and logos that anyone can download and share as needed with students.
We also just updated our Features categories to be less specific and provide more opportunities to post on our page. I will talk about those new features later.
When most people run a Google Search, they search for keywords. So, to keep that same mindset, or basic search of programs is a keyword search. It searches the titles and the descriptions of the programs in our database.
Run a search for “Education”…produces 163 results.
Let’s say you run that search of keywords that produces a lot of results like this one did and you want to narrow it down more. We have built in more search options:
Institution
Subject
Degree Level (associates, bachelors, masters, doctoral, certifications, endorsements)
Attendance Requirement
Servicemember Opportunity
These are institutions that provide accessible educational opportunities for veterans as they move from place to place
Narrow down: Valdosta, Master’s … narrows it down to 10 results. A little more useable.
How are the degrees entered?
Institutions have account holders assigned to programs. They make sure the programs are maintained and up-to-date. Programs and updated happen manually so we rely very heavily on institutions to update programs as needed.
There are currently 307 active online degrees in the database
Searching for courses works very similar to the degrees search.
Term: There are always two terms to search through. Three times a year the database updates so that the courses from the upcoming semester are live.
Subject Area
Institution
Degree Level
Attendance: partially online, fully online (95% onlinewith some campus visits for orientations or registrations), coming soon entirely at a distance (100% online with no campus visits)
Keyword
Many students come to our side to check course listings each semester. They can be current students or prospective students.
Campus representatives at each institution are responsible for uploading courses to the website. On average we have over 5,000 online courses listed on the website at one time.
Run search: Summer 2014, Health Professions, Columbus State, Undergraduate, fully online…19 results
How many of you have heard of smarter measure?
As you know, online learning is an entirely different environment than a traditional classroom environment. Typically there is no face-to-face interaction, technology is required, etc.
We provide this really cool tool on our website so students can determine if online learning is really for them.
The questionnaire takes some time so students can save and come back.
When the are finished they are rated in these areas and provided feedback to what they can do to get ready in an area if they are not.

She is earning her degree through UGAonline.
Columbus State University and Georgia Southwestern State University have joined forces to provide a collaborative Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). They are one of many collaboratives formed in the system. You can go to our website and watch the great video about the program.
In another of our new categories, Distance Education, I am sharing general information. One example is an article about textbook opportunities for students. I discuss the Affordable Learning Georgia initiative, eCore using open textbooks for courses, and other options to obtain affordable or free textbooks.
