One such application is Knack, which can transform understanding and broadcasting of skills to better match people to career paths. The goal of Knack is to give everyone the power to discover their talents and potential through innovative technology in order to create more equal access to economic opportunity.

It isn’t technology that puts people out of work;
it’s the decisions we make about how to apply it.
----Tim O’Reilly
9. Economic Graph Vision
We want to digitally map the global economy,
identifying the connections between people,
jobs, skills, companies, and professional
knowledge — and spot in real-time the trends
pointing to economic opportunities.
-----Jeff Weiner, LinkedIn CEO

11. Economic Graph Contains
• Information about where people worked and where
they had worked, and the employment history of
almost every company and organization in the world;
• A rolling picture of the skills that existed in the world
and how that picture was changing over time;
• Jobs that were available, where opportunities were,
and where there was an increased chance of being
hired for money;
• Connections between people and to organizations.

14. Augmented Intelligence on Cloud
Powers Apps
• Augmented intelligence, such as IBM’s Watson, enhances,
scales, and accelerates human expertise.
• The cloud accelerates processes. The cloud’s flexibility is
essential to connect cognitive processing to a fast-moving
stream of “big data” that was often extremely time-
sensitive.
• A platform is a data, cloud, and cognitive system that
enables infinite applications to create new services and
products.

Watson, Brooklyn, NY, May 5, 2015), accessed September 30,

15. Killer Apps can transform the future of
work
• Knack is an app that can transform
both the understanding and
broadcasting of aptitudes and the
matching to career paths.
16. Knack Mission
• Give people of all walks of life the power to
discover their talent and live life to their fullest
potential.
• Use technology innovation to tackle the most
pressing social and economic challenges of our
time: create pathways to education and
employment opportunity, alleviate poverty,
reduce inequality, and foster inclusion.
• Make economic opportunity equally accessible to
every person and make the world more equitable
and fair.
18. Burning Questions
• How can we each democratize opportunity?
• How can we change the metrics so we reduce
bias in recruiting and hiring?
• How can social impact—job creation, community
building, quality of life—become the new normal
for AI augmented work?
• Specifically, how can we help the 23 million
workers in the gig economy to get decent and
portable benefits that can aggregate for social
impact?
Notes de l'éditeur
We believe in the promise of democratization of opportunity for those who seize it. New platforms and apps on the Cloud with a new set of rules can be a game changer—those well connected will still have great opportunities; however, there are marginalized millions who now have a chance to participate in the global marketplace for engaging, fulfilling work that matters to them. Our hope is that we can suggest a conceptual framework, approaches, and tools
Our focus is on how people, interconnected through platforms and Apps, can create the new organizations, career paths, and opportunities for themselves and others.
It starts with individual self-reliance adopting: an entrepreneurial mindset, buttressed by understanding how to build lifelong professional networks, life-long learning and up-skilling to use new tools, willing to pivot for opportunities, embracing change, and engaging in their own journey of career navigation.
Walk through the chart
Success used to favor the Connected Individual to the exclusion of many. Many of the necessary elements for access to opportunity included: where you lived, who you knew, where you went to school, what your parents’ status was, what clubs and organizations you belonged to, which companies were on your resume, and your ethnicity, race, marital status and sexual orientation.

Tell story of the sacrifice these students make and how limited they are in terms of what they know about work and how few actually graduate, which is why facile choices (free education) are hollow. How project based learning showed me that these students would not be recruited for major tech companies. Connected schools and individuals are.
The promise of Platforms and Apps using AI can break the cycle of limited access and knowledge for opportunity .
This is a major shift. Google, Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, Salesforce, Ali Baba, Facebook are all platforms that can host exponentially vendors, free-lancers, and other companies. Give example of amazon e commerce delivery that companies like Transforce (20,000 trucks) handles.
