INTRODUCTION
 There are many industrial applications where round bar or
square bars are required to be operated on different
machines to make machine components such as Shafts,
Bolts, Screws etc. This needs more and more number of
pieces to be cut for mass production of those components.
 This prototype model of four-way hacksaw machine which
is able to cut four pieces simultaneously without any jerk
and minimum vibrations. The prototype model implies
conversion of rotary motion into the reciprocating motion
for proper working of hacksaw. This prototype model
overcomes the limitations of conventional hacksaw
machines which can cut single piece at a time.
WORKING PRINCIPLE
 This model is basically based on the Scotch Yoke
Mechanism.
 The Scotch yoke (also known as slotted link
mechanism)is a reciprocating motion mechanism,
converting the linear motion of a slider into rotational
motion, or vice versa.

LIST OF COMPONENTS
 Frame Base (Mild Steel)
 Disc (Circular)
 Pin
 Connecting Rods
 Bushings
 Hacksaw and Blade
 Bearings
 Electric Motor
 Bench Vice
Frame Base
 This is basically made of mild steel pipe of cross-section
55mmx25mm.
 Rectangular cross-section pipe is for mounting.
 Frame is a square structure of cross-section
650mmx350mm.
Frame Base
DISC
 We use the disc in circular shape of thickness 10mm.
 It helps to convert the rotary motion to linear
movement.
 It is mounted on the shaft of diameter 20mm.
 A slot is formed on the disc of thickness 15mm.
 A pin is hold in this slot.
DISC
PIN
 It is circular pin which has two parts.
 It holds the slotted bar.
 It provides a reciprocating motion to the connecting
rod.
CONNECTING ROD
 It is a cylindrical rod of length 440mm.
 It is a drawn rod of mild steel.
 It is connected to the slotted bar and hacksaw frame.
 It is mounted on the frame with the help of bush.
BUSH
 It is a hollow cylinder member of internal diameter
14mm and outer diameter of 22mm.
 It is fitted on the frame.
 It holds the connecting rod.
HACKSAW
 It is the most important part of this machine.
 Hacksaw blade is hold in this frame.
 The Length of the blade is 12inch.
PLUMBER BOCK
 We are using two plumber of diameter 20mm.
 Shaft is fitted in this plumber block.
 Shaft is holed with the help of groove screw.
 They are providing a relatively motion between two
parts.
ELECTRIC MOTOR
 We use a single phase AC Motor of 1440rpm.
 The power is transmitted with the help of belt.
 A pulley of diameter 16mm is fitted on the motor.
BELT
 A v belt is used to transmit power from motor to the
shaft.
 We use a B belt of length 55inch.

ADVANTAGES
 It is able to cut four pieces simultaneously without any
jerk and minimum vibrations .
 It requires less time than single hacksaw machines for
same pieces.
 It improves the productivity.
 The attachment is compact and rigid in size.
 Maintenance is low.
DISADVANTAGE
 It is applicable to mild steel and cast iron.
 More power required at starting time.
FUTURE SCOPE
 The machine can be fully automated by using
Microcontroller.
 In fully automated machine the operator need not
measure the length of the work-piece.
 The inputs can be given by the operator with the help of
a keypad and an LCD display.
 Automatic lifting up mechanism for frame when cutting
operation is finished to introduce next portion of bar for
cutting.
Conclusion
 It is known that conventional hacksaw machine can
be replaced with automatic four-way hacksaw
machine.
 Automatic four-way hacksaw machine gives high
productivity in short time period in comparison with
the conventional hacksaw machines.
 The major advantage of this machine is that
intervention of labor is reduced to maximum level. In
this rapid emerging industrial era, the use of
automatic four-way Hacksaw machine is wide.
