Change in the national curriculum
– Standard grades now National 4 and 5
– New structure for Highers and Advanced Highers
1. Sampling techniques and measurement of abiotic and biotic factors
2. Human impact on the environment - indicator species
3. Rivers and Landscapes
20% of course mark is based on practical field studies, data analysis and report writing
Currently working with the local authority and schools to develop field trip structures
and course material that meets NQ aims. Also sit on the D&G Outdoor Education
Forum along with RSBP, Wildlife and Wetlands Trust, Outward Bound, SNH, Forestry
commission and a number of other small environmental charities and groups.

Aims that Trusts could deliver
• Develop
– a basic knowledge and understanding of
environmental science
– an understanding of the role of biology,
environmental science and geography in scientific
issues
– scientific inquiry and investigative skills
– scientific analytical thinking skills
– the use of technology, equipment and materials,
safely, in practical scientific activities.
– practical fieldwork skills
– the use of scientific literacy in everyday contexts
