3. INTRODUCTION
• The term “folic” is form the Latin
word ‘folium’ which means leaf
• The term was first coined by
Mitchell in 1941
• found in leafy vegetables like
spinach
• vitamin B9
4. CHEMICAL STRUCTURE OF FOLIC ACID
• As a chemical compound , folic acid or vitamin B9 contains carbon ,
hydrogen , oxygen , and nitrogen.
• It also contains Pteridin , Para -amino benzoic acid and Glutamic acid .
• pteroylglutamic acid (PGA).

10. FOLATE-DEFICIENCY ANEMIA
• Folate deficiency anaemia is the
lack of folic acid in the blood.
• megaloblastic anaemia.
• It also leads to neural tube
defect.
Treatment
11. CONCLUSION
Folic acid plays and important role in synthesis of nucleic acid also
needed for the normal development of red blood cells in the marrow.
The laboratory diagnosis of folate deficiency is based on measurement
of serum and red blood cell folate concentrations, usually by
microbiological assay.
