Branches of government What are they and What do they do
What Am I going to  and do today? Understand the why the branches of government were formed. Learn the definition of each branch of government. Know the roles and responsibilities of each branch of government. Understand how the three branches interact.
What is the 3 branches of government? Executive Judicial Legislative

Purpose of 3 branches In the United States of America, a democracy, a system of checks and balances makes sure that no one branch of government holds too much power.  Our founding fathers had an idea to form the executive, the legislative, and the judicial branches to see that this goal was achieved.

Executive Who: President What do they do: Makes sure laws are carried out
More about Executive The President  is the head of the executive branch at the federal level.  He is helped by the Vice President and his cabinet, a group of advisors
Do you know? Do you know who are current president and vice president are?
State level The Governor is the head of the state government.  The Lieutenant Governor helps him.
Do you know? Do you know who your Governor is?
Local level At the local level the head of the Executive branch is either the Mayor or Town Supervisor.

More ABOUT LEGISLATIVE Every state has at least one representative.  The number ofrepresentatives is based on the population of the state. Two lawmakers from each state serve in Senate.
DO YOU KNOW? Do you know who is in charge of the House of Representatives? Do you know who is in charge of the Senate?
STATE LEVEL Senate The Senate passes uponlegislative proposals and constitutional amendments. The Senate confirms or rejects nominations made by the Governor. Assembly The Assembly is the other part of the state legislature. It meets and works in the Capitol.

LOCAL LEVEL City Council and Town Boards Both of these groups work like the Congress in the Federal Government. Both groups make laws for the city or town
