because they appeal to different ages because there lyrics aren’t offensive or rude
Lyrics "Written in these walls are the stories that I can't explain, I leave my heart open but it stays right here empty for days"
They have so many memories and regrets of things they have done and they have no idea why they did them. "that I can't explain"
They have an open heart to their girls but then they feel like they've used their own love up until its empty.
"She told me in the morning , She don't feel the same about us in her bones”
Everything can change overnight. He acts different in the morning because he's not sure what he's feeling. He's confused because
he knows he should love her but he doesn't feel it. And she senses that. So deep down inside she doesn't feel the same about the
two of them anymore.
"It seems to me that when I die , These words will be written on my stone"
This same process happens time after time. Girl after girl. They feel like they have a reputation of hurting girls and someday when
they die this reputation will be engraved on their tomb stones.
"And I'll be gone, gone tonight, The ground beneath my feet is open wide"
He wants to run away from the hurt he's caused. The ground beneath his feet is open to go find a new life. New people. New
reputations.
"The way that I've been holding' on too tight, With nothing in between"
He holds on to the girl so tightly when really there's no emotional attachment there between him to her.
"The story of my life, I take her home, I drive all night to keep her warm and time, Is frozen (the story of, the story of)"
it always happens the same way. He romances her. He thinks he loves her and he'd do anything to keep her happy. And in that
moment, time is frozen because that's where he wishes that the relationship's dynamics would stay.

It happens time and time again, he gives her hope to begin with and then as his love fades he spends hers until she feels so broken
from confusion of where she stands in every moment that she's with him.

All these memories are unchangeable
"Leave my heart open , But it stays right here in its cage"
Although my heart always seems open and although I'm open to relationships, my heart is bound by uncertainty and unwillingness
to fully open up to any girl. It's locked up.

2. Music Video Analysis
"I know that in the morning now , I see ascending light upon a hill"
He knows that there will be a silver lining with each new day that comes along. Even though he feels so awful it will get better.
"Although I am broken, my heart is untamed, still"
Even though his heart is broken, it's broken because of the hurt he feels for hurting the girl. Not because she tamed his heart,
because his heart can't ever be tamed.
"And I'll be gone, gone tonight, The fire beneath my feet is burning bright"
The ground beneath his feet is burning him. Because of all the pain he feels in every moment he spends still surrounded by the
same broken relationships. So he just wants to run away.
"And I've been waiting for this time to come around, But baby running after you is like chasing the clouds"
Now he realises he actually loves her but she won't have a bar of it because of the past. And that's the story of his life. That's just
how it goes.
Tempo It’s quite a chilled laid back song with a slow tempo throughout but a happy up beat tempo has a slight ‘sad’ beat also because the
song is supposed to have a meaning
Genre Pop – its popular music always see the artists in the top 40 charts.
Camera Technique The very start of the video starts with a close up shot of a piece of paper in water (a photo being developed) the surroundings are
plain and there is nothing else to see so you focus on the paper then text appears on the paper telling you the artists and the name
of the song, the second shot is a medium shot of one of the singers the background in blurred and plain and its focused on the
singer himself the audience should now know where they are and what they are doing by what its showing the singer (Liam) doing
the camera pans to show more of his surroundings, the third shot is of another member (Louis) who is doing something different
this is again a medium shot again it pans to show more then it changes to him developing photos which is now a close up shot, the
fourth shot is of another member (Harry) which is a medium shot then it changes quickly to(Zayn) who is taking photos down of a
line which is another medium shot then to another member (Niall) putting the photos of a drying rack so now it has introduced all
the members of the band all panning shots whilst they moved slightly around. It changes to a medium shot of one of the singers
(Harry) who starts to sing as he turns to face the camera then it cuts to a close up shot of him as he continues to sing then cuts to
another singer which is again a close up of his face then anther cut to show what’s he’s doing which is another shot of a photo in
water being developed. Then it goes back to the person singing (Harry) a medium shot of him where he’s pegging photos up on a
line to then cut to a close up as he looks at the camera then this continues switching to whoever’s singing whilst in between it
shows the rest of the singers doing individual things all medium shots, most of the shots of them singing is close up or medium

shot cut to a close up shot then just before the mise en scene changes they put a long shot in showing the whole room and
everyone in it doing individual things then to one of the singers a close up of his face then 0:53 in the video is where the music
kicks in and the scene changes completely it zooms in on a old photo which changes to a recreation of that photo of the people in
it older it then continues to room in and becomes a new scene of the room that’s in the photo then the singer is the only person
that moves in the whole scene everything else is still this is a medium shot of him moving around the room as the camera pans and
follows him as he sings into the camera then it zooms fully out of the photo to another scene of a room full of photos with the
band in it moving around the camera is on a jib so it moves around fast and moves up to show the photos and the members in
different parts of the room singing whilst this is happening it cuts back to the scene of the singers in their individual photos at the
same time as their verse in the song while they recreate an old photo of theirs which means a lot to them which are all medium
shots cut to close up shots as it pans around or follow them as they sing to the camera. As the video comes to an end all the
photos they recreated they go back to their original places and the photo goes back to normal (the old version) then the camera on
the jib starts with a long shot of them all and then slowly moves back and upwards to then fade to black
Editing The very first scene in the video has editing in it it’s a plain piece of white paper underwater which then has writing slowly fade in
and appear on screen telling you the name of the song and who directed the video this acts as a photo developing same effects so
now the audience know that the video will involve photos and them developing them, the main part of editing in the video apart
from the scene changing /cutting is how they recreate an old photo, the first photo is of one of the singers (Zayn) the photo is of
him and his little sister when they where younger in a room the photo is hung on one of the washing lines the camera is focused
on this photo and is still the photo them changes and a recreation of the photo fades in of him now with his sister both older but in
the exact same room and position this starts as a still image then he and only him starts to move as he sings into the camera then
the scene cuts to the photo filling the screen as he starts to walk around whilst everything else in the image is still then it cuts to
another scene but then back to him and the photo but this time its far away so the whole image isn’t in shot it’s a Polaroid but he’s
still moving in it to then the whole image filling the shot again, this continues with all individual members with their own
recreation a old image of them where it starts off as them younger to then fade into them now in the same room, clothes,
position, same people etc. the very end all the people in the recreated photos also move and interact with the singers.
