Maritime Administration celebrates Black History Month with ship tour and important
message for students. For students thinking about possible careers, transportation offers
a wide range of opportunities. We’ve got roads, rails, and runways to build; safe and sustainable technologies to develop;
and trains, buses, and trucks to drive. But to seize those opportunities, tomorrow’s...

We have updated our software to SharePoint 2010,
and are working through some of the issues;
please be patient, and please take the time to send us
issues using the contact us feature to report any issues
you may find.
As a part of the update, we have added several new
communities, and enhanced our collaboration, and
professional networking capabilities to include My Site.
We’d like to welcome the Intelligent Transportation
System’s Connected Vehicle community, as well as the
Every Day Counts, and Knowledge Management
communities from the Federal Highways Administration.
The sites are generally viewable by everyone, but you must
register for any of them if you wish to post content. Some
of the sites are open for general collaboration, and
professional networking, while other require approval by
a site administrator.
Listed below are additional details on the RITA subsites.

Transportation Research Clusters
Each year, the Department of Transportation (DOT) spends $1.2B to fund DOT staffers, and other
researchers across the nation to explore topics important to the nation’s transportation system. RITA’s
mission is to ensure the coordination, and collaboration of those DOT funded research pursuits, and
has been working among researchers both inside, and outside of DOT to foster development of
linkages between them to leverage knowledge and resources.
On behalf of DOT researchers, RITA created a social media site organized into 14 thematic research
areas, otherwise known as research clusters, to allow researchers to better share their work through
long-distance collaboration, and the electronic sharing of information and ideas. You are invited to
freely peruse these research clusters, or join them if you have research to share, questions to ask or a
dialogue you’d like to start.
Transportation Research Collaboration Website
Research Program and Project Management (RPPM)
TransportationResearch.gov has created a Research Program and Project Management (RPPM)
site that allows the transportation research community to share information and collaborate on
common issues (registration required). Over time, the site will become a repository of documents
and work products forming a collective set of best practices for planning, funding, conducting,
managing, implementing, and evaluating transportation research programs and projects. The site’s
value comes from the documents, and work products contributed by the research community. If you
have documents or work products on setting research agendas, carrying out research, collaborating
in research activities, delivering research results, communicating the value of research, come join us
by clicking here!
National Transportation Library (NTL)
The National Transportation of Library of
RITA provides leadership and coordination
in the development of regional and topical
transportation knowledge networks. The
National Transportation Library site provides
a platform for regional libraries to exchange
information, share resources, and enhance
collaboration. The site is accessible via the
top navigation bar.
Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT)
DOT has been designated the lead civil
agency for Positioning, Navigation, and
Timing matters. Within DOT, RITA is the lead
administration, carrying out this work through
the DOT Extended Pos/Nav Working Group
and Executive Committee. The RITA External
SharePoint site, currently under development,
will support this collaboration. More
information on the RITA PNT program is
available at http://pnt.rita.dot.gov.

Fuller traffic count data lead to better decisions 9/27/2011 5:13PM

In transportation funding decisions, you don’t count until you’re counted. That fact can lead to
cyclists and pedestrians, often overlooked in traffic counts, getting less than their share of
transportation money. The Oregon Transportation Research and...

5. At DKS Designswe create jewelry for
the discriminating customer. Our designs
incorporate beautiful gemstones in gold,
and platinum, in one-of-a-kind pieces, or
limited edition series.
Green Aquamarine &
Tsavorite Pendant
$1,600.00
By definition Aquamarines have green tones to
them. When the green is prevalent, as in these,
they are called Green Aquamarines. We have
separated these two green Aquamarine
trillions with a line of Tsavorites. The setting is
14k white gold. The trillions are 10x10x10mm
and 8x8x8mm.
Amethyst & Diamond Bangle
Bracelet $6,900.00
We found this fabulous Brazilian Amethyst
carved by Master Gem Carver, Michael
Dyber, and knew it had to have an
incredible design to compliment it.
We decided to showcase it with
Diamonds, and 14k Yellow Gold. The
design, and bracelet took over a year
to create.

Jewelry Design & Creation
My passion is colored gemstones, and using
them to create beautiful jewelry. When I look
at a gemstone, I will envision it already set, and
being worn. I know exactly what to do with it.
Others are elusive and will keep me guessing
until I see into their heart, or until I meet the
right customer. By this I mean someone who has
expressed a desire for a particular gemstone, or
style, and we collaborate on the final design. The
primary mediums for my jewelry are Platinum,
Gold, Silver, and gemstones that have been
taken from the earth. The metals may be cast,
or in wire form. The gemstones may be faceted
for setting, carved, or beads. My designs are
part imagination, and part memory/adaptation.
If it is to be cast, I sketch the design, then work
with a manufacturer to ensure my ideas can be
accomplished. I have been designing custom
jewelry since 1991.

Boulder Opal and Keshi Bracelet
$250.00
Boulder Opal and Keshi
Pearl Necklace
$900.00
Boulder Opals are found in many forms and
colors with smooth or uneven surfaces. The
opal occurs as a solid piece on top of the
ironstone or showing as flashing flecks of
color in the ironstone.
Keshi and Keshi-like Pearls occur when an
implanted nucleus is expelled, by the oyster,
before the culturing process is complete.
This means they are not natural but rather
a bi-product of the culturing process. It also
means they are almost pure nacre and very
lustrous. The difference between Keshi and
Keshi-like is salt water (Keshi) and freshwa-
ter (Keshi-like). For more information about
Keshi, Keshi-like and Pearls in general, see
Pearl-Guide.com.
Yummm! If you haven’t seen or heard of Chocolate Pearls, allow us to introduce you to them! These are
Tahitian Black Pearls that have been bleached to this yummy color. We have not yet decided whether
to leave them as a full strand, or separate them, and create several pieces. We would love it if you would
help us decide.
The pearls are slightly baroque and 11.1-12mm.
