a popular way to
fundraise money for
various charitable
groups
The first Dance
Marathon targeted at
raising funds for CMN
started in 1991 in honor
of Ryan White One of the first Dance Marathons from the 1920s

organization in the Southeast United States
• Has raised over $3.2 million since inception

Do you want to be part of a group that helps provide over $2.5 billion in patient care a year for children who need treatment for severe medical conditions?
Do you want to have a blast in the process?
Founded by Marie Osmond and her family, John Schneider, Mick Shannon and Joe Lake. Began as a small, televised fundraiser in a small studio in 1983 with a small group of about 20 children’s hospitals.
Raises most of the money from $1-$2 donations throughout the year, through the purchase of red and yellow CMN balloons from local convenient stores
A few of the corporate sponsors include: Walmart, Rite Ait, Dairy Queen, IHOP, Domino Sugar, Phi Mu Sorority, Church’s Chicken, Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity and many more.
Organized dance endurance competitions for prizes and money
Penn State was the first University to put together a Dance Marathon (also known as ‘THON) for a charitable cause in 1973
One of the oldest running dance marathons
Largest student run philanthropy in the world
- FIRST DM FOR CMN was at Indiana University
DM is now conducted at over 100 universities and colleges across the nation
More than 1,300 people fundraise
Event organized and run by hundreds of students
Over 700 dancers stay on their feet for 26.2 hours for those children who can’t
2010 DM event raised more than $517,000
That’s over $100,000 than the previous year!!

Treat 98% of all children needing heart or lung transplants.
Treat 88% of all children with cancer.
Treat 76% of all children with cystic fibrosis.
Treat 90% of all children with sickle cell anemia.
Treat 72% of children with pediatric AIDS.
