This is important because these traits might be helpful if another situation like this one occurs
again. Brain interprets, "You are the best thing you have". This displays that Brain overcomes his
anxiety feeling and starts logically thinking about his advantages he has. This is important because
Brain needs as much dignity he can get because of his mental and physical conditions he is in. As a
result, Brain begins to think about excellent thoughts also, is being resourceful for the time being. I
relate to this book because I have had an experiences when I got into a fight with my sister about a
little, non–important problem. My sister and I were fighting one day because I used something of
hers without asking. She was mad at me, and I totally respect that, but she was being a little harsh.
My sister and I figured it out after a bunch of fighting. That experience changed my character, by
being careful, and respectful of what I use without asking my sister.
Persevering, Brian constantly fights with a personal conflict, advancing his ability to evolve to the

for fifty–four days. At first, Brian did not know what to do. He just screamed and panicked. I liked
the screaming part. It expressed a person's mentality well. In the wilderness, he learns the way to
survive. He ate every food that he could catch like berries, fish, birds, rabbits and eggs. Also he
overcame some threats by a bear, a wolf, a skunk, a porcupine and made an arrow, bow, a spear. In

I remember when you read Hatchet by Gary Paulsen in Mrs. Surber's class. I don't recall how long
it took you to read it, but I took about a day now that I'm a lot better at reading than I was before.
My favorite things about the book before were when he made his own tent out of cloth Brian

Brian originally found gut cherries which made him feel sick. So right after he ate that he went

Although these changes were hard, it helped Brian change in a good way, it helped Brian survive
this tragic incident. The first change that stood out most to me in Brian would be strength. An
excellent example of this would be the quote on chapter 17, after the tornado took everything
away. He had to start completely new. In this chapter the quote clearly states, "Tomorrow, he
thought, as he lay back in the darkness. Tomorrow maybe the fish would be back and he would

Hatchet is the book I chose to write about. Brian gets on to the plane right before his mom hands
him a "HATCHET". Brian is on his way to his dad's when something happens. He is stranded in the
middle of nowhere. He is trying to figure out how to survive but, he was used to eating fast food and
from fancy restaurants in the city. When he is out in the middle of nowhere with no experience, it is
really hard for him to survive this is a life or death situation. He finally figures out some techniques
catching food and how to boil the water to be safe to drink. He has a tough time at first trying to
figure out what to do but, after awhile he is good to go he can find food
