Explosion Of Crime In America
The scholarly evidence, in short, suggests that at the heart of the explosion of crime in America
is the loss of the capacity of fathers and mothers to be responsible in caring for the children they
bring into the world. Congress assume the high level of crime in America have its roots in poor
employment opportunities and a shortage of adequately funded social program This is one
issue that we have to take a look at and address. These shortcomings can be fix if we work
together. While doing this research I learn that children as young as 6 or 7 are carted off in
handcuffs, locked up and saddled with permanent criminal records. Trayvon McRae was one of the
those 6 years old. After throwing a tantrum in his music class, and kicking and

Flannery O Connor is a Georgian writer that is mainly known for her short writings about
southern life and religion. She (uses local color in her writings that make her style unique

wanted to express her spiritual thoughts on her writings. One of her famous story Everything
That Rises Must Converge , O Connor illustrates perfectly the ways of living in the rural south
and the how social integration changed everything. During this story, one character during does
not change until the end of the story, which is typical on O Connor writings. O Connor is a type
of writer that who inlikes to add a surprising ending. In addition, another story called The
Displaced Person , she uses the same technique to express that part of the south were she was
born. O Connor is very good at using local color since she knows exactly how people acted,
thought, and talked because she was raised in the south. There are common motifs among O
Connor s stories. For example, she uses the sky as a sign of God calling someone, and racism
plays an important part of her stories since the time she is writing is when blacks and whites got

Essay On Scavenger
At the start of this book, it has been twenty years since the world fell apart . For one of the two
main characters, Peyton, the time Before is something she has never experienced only learned
about from stories. Freshly eighteen, she becomes the leader of The Mill, her home. The Mill is
home to a group called the Settlers, which Peyton s father was in charge of before his death.
The other main character is Nixie, a tiny female who belongs to the group called The Scavengers.
The Scavenger, unlike the Settlers, move from place to place and are not afraid to do whatever it
takes to get the supplies they need to survive: lie, steal, kill. Everything is fair game. Nixie has a
special gift, though, which makes her invaluable to her people. She is a dowser, someone who can
sense and find water with her body.

In all honesty, I don t know which emotion takes precedence. I have a certain soft spot for
Dystopian novels, and on that factor this book did not disappoint but there were also some big
issues I had with the plot. Usually, I wouldn t mind if there was no explanation as to why the
world has become such a wasteland but throughout The First Twenty, there is no explanation of
anything. It is simply actions, consequences (more often poorly executed ones), and more
description of the two main characters than anything else. There is no background. We are thrust
into this decaying world, and not even those from the Before say anything about what happened.
Was it a nuclear war? Did the government collapse? There were too many open ends that left for
misunderstandings. This Before couldn t have been that long ago, there are still plenty of people
alive who remember what it was like and even still follow through with the same practices like
using last names. If it was so recent, why don t we know anything about

What Is The Mood Of The Poem Blackberry-Picking
In the poem Blackberry Picking, the author discusses the harshness of life by describing his
experience picking blackberries. While the poem is rather dark, he maintains the message that
childish hopes still exist despite the continual blockade of reality.
In the first stanza, Heaney describes the berry picking as a rather unimportant task. The blackberries
represent the hope and excitement that summer is: summer s blood was in it (6). The childish
hopefulness is expressed in the conversational tone, created by the syntax found within the rhythm.
The author organizes the sentences in a way that varies the stressed and unstressed syllable to keep
the experience of berry picking casual and light.
The rhyme scheme of AABB keeps a sense of organized structure throughout the poem.
The author often includes slant rhyme to eliminate the sing song pattern many poems have: for
/hunger (7 8).
The use of descriptive diction allows the reader to clearly visualize the experience. The clear
imagery of the berry s flesh (5) sweetened like thickened wine ... Show more content on

This is paradoxically established when the author says: all the lovely canfuls smelt of rot (23).
The hopes of sweet and lovely blackberries are destroyed by the inevitable decay of what was
sweet and satisfying in the berries. This grim picture of the destruction of the things we cherish
enough to search for even when wet grass bleached our boots (10), displays a depressing picture
of the world around us. Although human possessions, in this case the berries, do not live forever,
the hope that goodness will carry on is exhibited in the childish hopes that the berries will stay fresh
despite the knowledge that the berries themselves will

The Importance Of A Cultural Framework That Is Suitable...
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Budgets are very important part of business environment. They are considered to be essential key
drivers and evaluators for planning and control as well as managerial performance since 1920
(Reka et al., 2014). This report aims to investigate how to promote a cultural framework that is
suitable for the modern dynamic business environment. Firstly, it will explain the concept of
budgetary control, It will then point out advantages and disadvantages of the current traditional
system and how some weaknesses can be addressed by implementing Beyond Budgeting (BB) using
practical examples of organisations that have been successful and what were the problems that they
have encountered. It will also discuss why some organisations ... Show more content on

2.2 Benefits of Traditional Budgeting
Budgeting is a management control technique that can be used as an early warning system.
Budgets are of great help as a support performance management (Pietrzak, 2013). It can provide a
detailed information insight of the next fiscal year, which allows managers to set performance
objectives much more easily, make decisions and plan ahead. For example: When recession hit
Europe in 2008, Davis Service Group was able to assess effects and was able to build new and
accurate theories for the remainder of 2008. By recognizing and handling risks, Davis has been
able to return profits, dividends and cash flow for shareholders in a challenging economic
environment.
Budgets generate a point of reference, making it easier for managers to accomplish activities with
stability. As long as managers can meet the set parameters, budgeting and the use of budgetcost
centers provide them with the liberty to run their operations (Neely at al., 2003).
Budgets are a great communication tool used when obtaining information about company or e.g.
activities of its competitors. They also help in expressing ideas, goals and strategies of projects
between team members/employees and outside resources or potential investors, motivating
employee to drive forward.
2.3 Drawbacks of Traditional Budgeting
To make budgets is a very long and time consuming process, when organisations are trying to get

The activity was for my student to make up his own story problem using a given theme and to
make up two numbers to get to a number of the given sum. During the activity my student was
somewhat successful with finding two numbers that made the sum he was given, but often
times got confused on the wording of the sum problem. For example he would write I have 2
socks if he got 6 socks then would stop. Through out the process I had to be say things like I don
t know what I am suppose to solve or What is suppose to go at the end of the problem? . After I d
ask those problems my student would usually try and charm me into giving him the answer, but I
would just act super confuse and try and guide him into the answer. After many redirections and
questions I could successfully help him make a story problem that made sense, but it took around
ten minutes to successfully do this. I learned that my student knows how to solve problems, but
sometimes he would get caught up in the detail of spelling a word, how he wrote a word, or would
get distracted. I also realized that he can struggle with the foundation of a story problem and how to
construct one. This semester I plan on helping my case study student successfully write story

A Research Study On Helicopter Parenting Essay
College life for the twenty first century student is not what it used to be. According to an American
College Health Association National College Health Assessment survey, eighty five percent of
college students feel so tremendously overwhelmed they walk through the day blind and just
hoping things work out (Fisher). Students lack the ability to focus and manage everything that is
piled on them during class. The term helicopter parentingwas first common in the 1990 s, but was
first used in 1969. Now, forty seven years later, helicopter parenting has become prevalent in
college students lives and the culture around people. A helicopter parentis one who takes an
overprotective or excessive interest in the life of their child or children. Helicopter parenting does
not start out randomly as a college student; helicopter parenting is a process that develops results.
The helicopter parent issue is prevalent to many people. People from Doctor Amy Joyce to stay at
home mom Jamie Porter have done studies to explain the effects of helicopter parenting.
Psychologists such as Chris Meno have done research and testings to collect data on helicopter
parented children. The issue of helicopter parenting is not just concerning children; it is concerning
people across the country.
President of Frostburg State University told Amy Joyce parents have called him to settle a dispute
between their child and their roommate. Joyce explains in her piece How Helicopter Parents Are

Watchman Style Of Policing
According to Criminal Justice Today by Frank Schmalleger, a style of policing describes how a
particular agency sees its purpose and chooses the methods it uses to fulfill that purpose . There are
four main types of policing styles: the watchman style, the legalistic style, the service style, and the
policecommunity relations style.
The watchman style function is to place an importance on maintaining order through informal
police intervention and relies on threats or persuasion to resolve disputes. This style of policing is
normally found in rural areas and blue collar communities with a diverse population. Officers in a
watchman style agency exercise a liberal amount of discretion to keep the order. In other words,
certain crimes go unnoticed based on the seriousness of the offense. ... Show more content on

style is typical found in bigger cities and is popular with state police agencies. An example of
this policing style is, an officer stops you for going five miles over the speed limit, they will issue
you a speeding citation. Agencies utilizing this method of policing expect the officers to make a lot
of arrests and write many

Essay on Thomas Herzog’s Private House in Regensburg
The Private House in Regensburg was built in 1979, which is Thomas Herzog s own home; one
can declare that he is the client and designer himself thus fulfilling his own needs or desires for
the site. The house demonstrates particular principles of energy efficiency, making it an early eco
home. This can be shown by the use of local materials, or taking advantage of the site for
characteristics like protection and aesthetics. Thomas Herzog was born in during World War 2
(1941), in Munich, Germany. In 1965 he completed his diploma for architecture at the Technische
Universität München (University of München) and in 1973 he became Germany s youngest
professor of architecture at the age of thirty two. He is now known famously for his work... Show

The appearance loses the traditional house design and implements that it is an extruded form of
a triangle, linking to the hypotenuse of a triangle, reaching right down to the ground. It was
designed to appear as if the house is unwarranted (groundless) or the vice versa of it being forced
up through the ground. Energy principles were a relatively new idea in the 1970s where Herzog
implemented the use of the triangular shape of the house that is designed to collect free solar
energy, which is later used to heat the house. Herzog used environmental responsive architecture to
integrate energy saving features into the home. Also many architects would argue that the
principles of creating a house like this uses the principles of a Lean 2 shed , where it creates a
D.I.Y aesthetics. Linking to the idea of conservatories being around since Victorian times but was
always an addition to the conventional house . Herzog merged the two together by creating a two
storey house with a conservatory attached, except that both elements share the same roofline.
Herzog makes regularity and flexibility another architectural theme that is seen just as valuable to
energy saving throughout the house. The plan of the house is designed to distribute or allocate
space proportionally, which is layered via an abstract grid. Which can be combined in different
ways either horizontally or vertically. The types of materials used have also specific aesthetic
qualities. The

Vincent Van Gogh s Accomplishments

Passionate Love In Romeo And Juliet
Love is a fragile emotion that can cause destruction when it is not handled with proper care and
rationality. In the Shakespearean play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, a feud between two
families, the Montagues and Capulets forbids star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, from falling in
love. Despite the feud, the two lovers continue their forbidden relationship and with that choice,
their loveeventually leads to their downfall. The theme of passionate love among couples
sometimes serves as a healthy aspect of relationships, but in Romeo and Juliet s case, it brought out
their worst traits. Passionate teenage love is dangerous and destructive because it caused Romeo to

Collectivisation had a big impact on Russia for both positive and negative reasons; it was a failure
in the aspect that it caused chaos in agriculture and due to the problems caused, millions died
due to famine and poverty in the short term. Grain harvests dropped dramatically during the
early 1930s and took until the late 1930s for yield to rise again. However, in the long run, a food
surplus was secured and so could be used to feed and pay for the industrial workforce needed for
the 5 year plan. It was also incredibly significant in history as it showed how much control Stalin
had over Soviet Russia and the fear that the peasants lived in; for example if they were caught
stealing even just a few pieces of grain they could be executed or imprisoned for up to 10 years.
The lasting impression that is received from the wide tolerance of this policy was how small and
insignificant the few rebellions were that were organised. This further demonstrates the power and
influence held over the peasants during this period of time. The five year plans were designed to
combat the lack of industrialisation in the Soviet Union by increasing the output of enterprises via
setting targets for the companies. If these targets were not met, due to the lawfulness of the plans,
the people responsible could be treated as if they had committed a criminal offence . Due to the fear

Analysis Of The Film Selma
Equality and Justice false promises a nation was created to protect. The historical drama, Selma
(2014), directed by Ava DuVernay, depicts some of the struggles African Americans faced in the
pursuit of equality and justice during the mid 1950 s to 1960 s, and the role Martin Luther King Jr.
played in his attempt to overcome such inequalities. Even before its release, Selmareceived backlash
from critics who claimed it falsely depicted Lyndon B. Johnsonat odds with Martin Luther King Jr,
and alleged that the murder of the four girls at the Birmingham Church occurred in September
1963, rather than at the end of 1964, which the film suggests. Regardless of such claims, the film,
Selma, does depict a historical event set forth by Martin Luther King Jr. in 1965. During this time
period, racial segregation was prominent, especially in the southern states. The government
justified such segregation based on the 14th Amendment s wording of separate but equal .
However, many African Americans were dissatisfied and demanded true equality. It was not until
the mid 1960 s, after Martin Luther King Jr. was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, that racial
tension began to decline. Although Martin Luther King Jr. s role was invaluable in the Civil
Rights Movement and required great courage, Selma aims to portray a complex side of King,
mixing his bravery and determination with self doubts and internal conflicts in his pursuit of justice
and equality. To stand up for one s principles in

Macroeconomic policies are used to maintain and smooth out the fluctuation of the business cycle
to keep the growth rate constant. There are two types of macroeconomic policy, Fiscal and
Monitary. Fiscal Policy is a macro policy that allows the Government to increase or decrease the
amount of economic growth by either increasing or reducing the level of taxation and Government
spending. The annual budget is an example of fiscal policy. Fiscal policy takes a long time to
implement as it can only be changed every 12 months but goes into effect immediately.
The Monetary Policy is used to influence the amount of growth sustained in an economy. Things
such as interest rates and overnight loans force people to spend or save to control the amount of
growth. These rates however, are not controlled by the Government, but a separate government
funded organization called the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA). Its role is to maintain financial

The Telecom Industry And Monopoly

Book Review: Crawford, S. (2014). The Telecom Industry and Monopoly in Power in the New
Gilded Age. London, Brilliance Audio.
In the book, Captive Audience: The Telekom Industry and Monopoly Power in the New Gilded
Age, the Author, Susan Crawford is discussing how a decade ago, United States was the benchmark
for internet service provision. The U.S. boasted of the fastest internet speed, highest penetration
rates, and the lowest prices in the market. The United States was then recognized as a leading
knowledge economy. However, today, things have suddenly changed, a situation attributed towards
lackluster government legislations that have given rise to new monopolies hence allowing
countries such as Singapore, Japan, and Europe to overtake the U.S in terms of average broadband
speed, penetration rates, and prices. This backslide has not only deprived consumers premium
services and contents in a competitive global landscape, but also threatening to derail the country s
economic prospects.
According to Susan, who is the author of the book, she believes that once upon a time, she was
found in a fortunate position to decide on a television and internet package. Susan had a choice of
two companies to choose from, and these very companies provided broadband connectivity,
telephony services, and myriad of television channels than she could hardly afford to enjoy.
Unfortunately, this particular choice of providers is only available to the

The Kingdom s Government has formulated a long term strategy for the nation that it calls
Bahrain Vision 2030. Unveiled by the Economic Development Board in November 2007, the
vision was the outcome of over four years of consultation with representatives from the public and
private sectors, academia and international bodies. Serving as a blueprint for dramatic economic
and social transformation, the vision commits the nation to massively improved standards of
living, radically reformed Government, widespread privatization, better education and health

Example Of Speech Act
Speech act is the action performed by a speaker with the utterance. An The speaker s intention is
obvious to a hearer and it can be often complemented or replaced by a physical act like a gesture.
Speech acts are used to describe actions like asking, ordering, questioning, threatening, accusing,
insulting or promising. For exampleexample, by saying I ll kill you , one is not only speaking but
also threatening the hearer.
The first one, who mentioned phenomena of speech acts, was the British philosopher J.L. Austin.
In his work How To Do Things With Words [1962] he argued with logical positivism theory, which
says that only statements that are logically or empirically verifiable have cognitive meaning. He
claimed that people not only describe their surroundings by words, but they may also create the
reality using them. He coined the terms constative utterance (that is the one which describes the

According to Austin brak odwoЕ‚ania do literatiru, there are 3 levels of a speech act: locutionary,
illocutionary and perlocutionary. Locutionary act is an act of producing a meaningful expression,
in simple words it is saying something. Illocutionary act shows the force hidden behind the words
(illocutionary force), the true meaning e.g. I ll give you a gift is not only a declarative sentence,
but also a promise made towards the hearer. Perlocutionary act is the reaction of the hearer to
speaker s words, it is an effect of the utterance e.g. the hearer is waiting for a gift when he has heard
from the speaker I ll give you a gift .
Speech acts can be divided in two categories direct and indirect, depending on words used by the

Soft Drink Industry Case Study
1.Why, historically, has the soft drink industry been so profitable? There are several reasons
why the soft drink industry has been so profitable. One reason is because these soda companies
directly distribute to stores that sell their product. They do a good job in avoiding a middle man
which would cost a lot more. Instead, they handle all the packaging and bottling before the soda
gets to the shelf so they don t have to pay those extra costs associated with a middle man and
keep all that profit. Also, carbonated drinks are cheap to produce and have a high profit margin.
Every aspect of the making and bottling process is inexpensive so it makes it very easy to turn a
profit. This is the same for both bottles and fountain sales. For the fountain all you have to do is
install the fountain and then refill it so it is inexpensive. Another way they are profitable is
because these soda companies have contracts with stores making it impossible for competitors to
sell their version of CSD s in the same location. They put the contracts in place in order to avoid
another company selling and taking their profit and also so the stores and restaurants won t
make it competitive for them when it doesn t have to be. These soda companies also do a great
job of sponsoring events in which helps promote their products which in turn drives profit. These
soda companies also partner with certain locations in order to offer incentives if you buy the
sodas. For example, if you buy a ticket to a

Final Rough Draft
The Meaning of Life
In the world we live money, interest and pleasure are words more powerful than happiness. Not
that they are not providing happiness but seems to be the only way to find a happy life. By
happiness people these day mean success, joy in success. When asking people what they want in
their life to be happy the majority respond a lot of money . The fact that those words take such
important place in our lives makes a massive change in our society and our civilization around the
world. Money is now the most important factor in our lives in many aspects. But does money really
provide happiness?
Since we are living in a society we create social contract to divide and share task, responsibilities
and live in cohesion all together. To value this form of labor division, we create money, first it
was only exchange of production between laborers and later it became the dollars we all know.
For this evolution and perpetuation, we can see the impact of money on the population, The first
form of money was shared food, which for many centuries preceded the evolution of coinage .
(Needleman 152) Many of our habits and our everyday materials have somehow a connection
with the holy religion, for example the first coin were printed on one side a sacred religious
symbol and one the other side a more regular symbol or an authority symbol. As Needleman say
money at first was symbolized the loving giving and taking

I carried this with me for decades. And then I decided to become a Warrior instead of a victim
statistic. I broke the cycle (Unknown). Child abuse is the harming of a child that causes extreme
injury, emotional instability, or even death. Neglect is a form of child abuse where a parent
does not provide the proper care that a child needs to successfully grow and develop. Child
molestation is another form of child abuse, and involves an adult or older adolescent using a child
for their own sexual pleasure. There are thousands of cases being reported every year. However,
we may never know the exact number of cases. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is indeed heinous to hear an innocent child cry out and that person continues to harm. All child
molesters, and abusers need to have severe punishments, and to be off of the street. Children who
get molested and/or abused, suffer from long term problems that include depression, and trouble
forming relationships. This tragic incident can also take years to get over, if not, haunt them for the
rest of their lives.
Today, convictions of child molestation can already be severe. This depends on the state.
According to Criminal Defense Lawyer (NOLO), in Georgia, a person accused of molesting a
child can have a sentence of 5 to 25 years for their first offense. Any other similar crimes
committed by the same criminal, can cause them to have a sentence of 10 years to life. The
penal code for any libidinous acts with a child 14 years of age and younger, in California,
includes a sentence of up to 8 years, for each felony count against that person. Every separate act
is its own felony charge. Also, any sexual intercourse with someone under the age of 10, will be
punished with a sentence of up to 25 years to years. In Ohio, any who rapes a child under the age
of 13 is to have time in prison, or a life sentence, even if the person did not know the child s
correct age. Child sexual abusers will also have to register themselves as a sex offender. This
includes, the person s name, and location. Anyone will be able to look this information up.

Morality Is A Big Theme Throughout The Book Les Miserables
C project
Legality versus morality was a big theme throughout the book Les Miserables. Two of the main
main characters, Javert and Jean Valjean conflict on that issue many times. Jean Valjean is a man of
his morals rather than the law, whereas Javert is strictly about the law, and nothing else. Both of
these characters face many legal and moral issues throughout the book.
Jean Valjean looks into his morals when he is faced with a dilemma. The first time that this
becomes apparent is the beginning of the book, when we learn why he is in jail. Valjean was
faced with jail time because his family was struggling and starving and he thought is was morally
okay to steal bread for his family even though it was illegal. Valjean stealing the bread even
though it was illegal, but because his family needs it his morals say that it is okay for him to do
so, showing legality versus morality. Another thing that Valjean does that demonstrate this theme
is that when Javert tells Valjean(when he is mayor and going under the name of Madeleine) that
someone has been caught under his name. If he decides to do nothing he will then face no legal
troubles any more, but because of his morals he decides the right thing to do is to go to the court
where this trail is taking place, and say that he is the real Valjean. He think it is immoral to let this
man suffer for his actions, so he decides to reveal himself.
Javert is the opposite of Valjean, and relies heavily on the legality side. In the

argument with a final concusion. It is concluded that the speakers overall reasoning is illogical.
Although, Marvell s poem is described as sophisticated, evocative, and emotionally moving, (
Andrew Marvell 280) Recent criticisms say that a female reader could read this poem and look at
it different than a male. The reader, as a female, may percieve it as crude and vulgur. It could be

In the beginning of the poem, the female reader could identify the tone of the passage as

COL John Boyd s theory on the Elements of Warfare divided warfare into three different
categories: moral warfare, mental warfare, and physical warfare. Moral Warfare was basically
defined as defeating and reducing the enemy s will to win. The overarching concept behind the
moral warfare portion was the destruction of moral bonds that allow an organization to maintain
continuity (defeat the spirit of the group consciousness). Mental Warfare was the battle waged
against the enemy s perception of reality through channels of disinformation, restricting
communication, and destroying information infrastructure. Essentially, the mental warfare portion
was the manipulation of the enemy s perception reducing force effectiveness. Finally, Physical
Warfare was the utilization of physical resources like weapons, munitions, people, and logistical
assets. These three combined factors; moral warfare, mental warfare, and physical warfare
together were Boyd s core subcategories which created his Elements of Warfare. According to

Topic
This paper explores the concept of cultivation theory and the way in which violent programming on
television can instil fear and influence perceptions when it comes to experiencing crime in the
community. In using research findings to explore their hypothesis, the authors focus on analyzing
data which underpins their prediction that television viewers are influenced to believe in a social
reality, in this case a life threatened by crime, incongruous or actual crime rates.
Context
The context of this paper fits neatly within a number of fields and disciplines spanning
communication, sociology, politics, criminology and education. Published in the flagship journal of
the International Communication Association for an academic readership, it is thorough and
innovative in using a combination of research findings while also considering race, wealth and

The major difference according to Jones (2009) is that Whereas equity is about fairness and
focuses on processes, equality compares the distribution of some goods or outcomes between
different individuals or groups. (p. 9). To clarify it, Jones (2009) mentioned that ...equity focuses
on what constitutes a just distribution, which treats people equally, whereas equality is about
what the final actual distribution is, requiring that people receive equal amounts. (p. 9). Equity s
main goal is not to make everyone in society equal, but rather to provide fair opportunities to
become equal while equality s main goal is to leave everyone as equal as possible in the end

they have no control over and promotes fair competition. On the other hand, equality strives to

Informed Consent in Healthcare
The Doctor and Patient relationship aspect of Medicine has changed drastically in the last twenty
years. It has evolved from paternalism (the doctor makes the decision for the patient) to shared
decision making where the patient is considered an equal partner in his/her own health related
decisions. Informed consent is the cornerstone for this view. When a patient or a research subject
makes an autonomous decision after understanding, the risks and benefits involved with the
decision is Informed consent. Complete Informed consent covers the following components:
competency, disclosure, comprehension and voluntary. Competency refers to the requirement for
the individual to be of legal age and be mentally competent to understand the process.... Show more

This meaning is subjective and can be different for each provider. Another issue with the
implementation of Informed consent arises when the patient waives the right to Informed consent
and leaves the right to make the decision on the physician. Though legally correct, this can cause
psychological stress for the physician especially when the decision is about a life threatening
medical condition. Moreover, this also makes the patient vulnerable to abuse. (Manthous,
DeGirolamo, 2003) Legally and ethically under Informed consent a patient has the right to refuse
specialty treatment or referral but needs to be informed about the risks involved with delay or
lack of the specific treatment recommended. Mostly, if the patient does agree to visit the
specialist then, the specialist is responsible for the informed consent for the specific treatment.
But is has been contested and help in courts that the primary care physician still is responsible for
the patients welfare in all phases of treatment. For a provider in a busy practice it is difficult to
keep track of all the referrals and at times, the specialist s office has a different outlook on the
matter. The learned intermediary doctrine puts the responsibility of drugs related informed consent
unto the physician. This doctrine provides that manufacturers of prescription drugs and medical
devices discharge their duty of care to patients by providing

Dark Matter
15. Dark Matter and Dark Energy (1500 to 2000 not including references)
Explain both concepts and the differences between them. Describe the observations that led to the
hypothesis that dark matter is an important component of the Universe. Describe the suggested
constituents of the dark matter.
There have been many attempts to understand the world we live in, ranging from studies of
objects as small in size as DNA to the study of massive objects as galaxy clusters and even the
whole universe. Being focused on only what can be observed, it had been thought that the universe
is completely of visible matter for most of the past (1) (2). However, after many researches it has
been found that the universe composites of 68% dark matter, 27% dark ... Show more content on

During the 1970s, dark matter had been discovered accidentally by astronomers Vera Rubin and
Kent Ford, they were observing galaxies and they noticed that stars far from the galaxy centre
had a velocity similar to the celestial objects closer in. The observation was unexpected due to
the visible mass of galaxies lacking the required gravity to keep the further stars in the orbit,
therefore the astronomers were faced with a missing mass problem and the concept of dark
matter had been created (16). The main problem with dark matter is that we can t observe it
directly, we must indirectly study its interaction with normal matter to be learn more about it
(17). There may be a misconception between what is observed and what is known to be there,
for example; if a man is floating mid air, due to the fact that humans are unable to fly; it can be
concluded that there must be something holding the man up there (2). In 1997, Hubble Space
Telescope revealed light from far galaxies bent due a mass of 250 times greater than the visible
mass which that scientists believe dark matter is the reason for (18). Also, NASA s Chandra X ray
observatory had been used by astronomers to measure the allocation of dark matter in an immense
constellation of galaxies located around a billion light year from earth, the cluster is engulfed by a
significant amount of clouds of hot gas, from the observation it had been found that the amount of
dark matter is a hundred trillion more than the mass of the sun which held the cluster of gravities
together (17). Comprehending dark matter is an important task to understand the most vital aspects

Fantasy League Book Themes
Essay
Fantasy League, by Mike Lupica, is a realistic fiction novel about a young boy named Charlie
Gaines who helps the owner of a professional football team find needed players. Charlie Gaines is a
7th grader who is a backup linebacker for his school football team and a genius when it comes to
fantasy football and trivia. He talks to the owner of the LA Bulldogs, a fictional NFL team, and
suggests various players to sign, earning him fame and the team a chance to make it to the playoffs
for the first time in franchise history. The theme of Fantasy League, which is that things are not
always as they appear, is demonstrated and illustrated by the characters, the plot, and the setting in
the novel.

The setting of the novel is in Los Angeles in a number of places, including a professional and a
school football field, a school, and multiple houses. This shows that extraordinary and unusual
things can happen anywhere, even in the most common places such as school and people s
homes. (Lupica) Another detail this portrays is that in LA, the football team is not very good
and doesn t win a lot of games. Throughout the story, in the setting of LA, things seem bleak for
the Bulldogs, as they are every year, but the team still keep going and turns out to be a playoff
caliber team. (Lupica 143, 240) Lastly, the setting of LA and Hollywood tends to be about
people wanting and having fame, but this time, that is not the case. Charlie Gaines is not the
type of character or person who is generally seen living in Hollywood, one who wants fame and
can t get enough of it once he s got it. He is in the spotlight in the novel, and can t wait to change
that, asking for advice on how to stop receiving attention and stopping his social media posts.

A Personal Budget Can Be A Reflection Of A Federal Budget
A personal budget can be a reflection of a Federal budget. The process to creating a budget for
either personal or federal would involve several steps. However, as you will see, a federal
budget has a lot more involved than just a personal budget. In making a federal budget a number
of parties are involved, which makes it a lot more complex. All of this includes having an
estimate of revenue and an estimate of expenses. In order to make a personal budget you have to
figure out what your income is for a period of time (like a month). You then would estimate your
savings and expense for the month. You have to think of the regular expense that you have such
as food and gas as well as the occasional cost like birthday gifts or unexpected repairs. It is a good
idea to know what your regular bills are and how much you bring in from your paycheck during
that period of time that you look at. The federal budget works in a similar way. A fiscal year is
more than twelve months. It has to be from October first through September thirtieth. The first
step in making a federal budget includes taking the estimated accounts for a period of twelve
months chosen. The government begins in October and ends in September of the next year. This
period is called a fiscal year. In that year they take all the revenue and expenditure in order to help
create an estimate for the following fiscal year, just like you would for a personal budget plan.
Revenue is talking about where the money has come from.

Even in His Rise to Power, Wang Lung Respected and Loved...
In traditional Chinese culture, there has always been a strong connection with the earth. The
earth gives life and helps to sustain it, and in the end the earth is where you return. For Wang
Lung, this was a concept easily grasped. He loved the land, and even in his rise to power, his
connection to it remained. When he was most at peace, he was working the land. The times he
grew restless were those when he was unable to farm. Often with the gain of monetary wealth, the
decline of morality follows closely behind. This is magnified in the lives of Wang Lung s three
sons. The eldest son becomes obsessed with women and is eager to satisfy the desires of the flesh.
For the rich, this is a common thing. Once you tire of the beautiful maid... Show more content on

Has it ever been more true that money is the root of all evil (1 Timothy 6:10)? And it is odd that
in a culture with such a strong sense of duty and honor for their ancestors that as their father was
dying they were planning on how to divide up and sell the land; the land that had given them so
much, and the same that had put them through school and fed and clothed them and was the only
thing to remain when they had nothing else? This was something Wang Lung could not
communicate with his sons. They seemed to think that their wealth would go far beyond the
ground from which it came. Maybe they could not remember the months they spent in the hut, or
when they had no choice but to eat gruel made from the soil. They did not know how fleeting
wealth was as their father had learned earlier in life. Wang Lung himself was not exempt from
these same sins as seen in his sons, however. Throughout his life he had two constant forces
working within him, not unlike the traditional concept of yin and yang. Yin and yang is believed to
be in everything and is the essence of all naturally occurring things. They are opposite but cannot
exist without each other, so the struggle is to find the perfect balance. Like with Wang Lung, when
he only has the land and his earthen house but no wealth or the misfortune of a drought, he suffers.
He cannot feed his family and cannot live. But when there is too much

There are three cultural products I have viewed, read, or otherwise interacted that are examples of
distinct forms of mass media. The first, is a weekly television show that airs on NBC called This
Is Us, another is a national broadcast which Pastor Joel Olsteen preaches which airs networks on
USA and TBN, and lastly the infamous President Donald Trumpand the American people, versus
the National Football League. These three cultural products/issues are examples of mass media,
however some of them are cleverly written dialog for television which millions of viewers engage
in and some are web based material which have gone viral for millions of viewer s entertainment
and/or are sources of information.
Mass Media
The television show, This is Us has been a personal engagement for me which has given me
different perspectives on family engagements and family dynamics, based on the television show s
characters and the sibling rivalry in their adolescence, then on to each of their personal growth and
establishing healthy relationships as they become adults. This television show also portrays to the
viewers, how the American culture views parental figures, their trials and successes, during the
course of the family s growth throughout the years. While watching this show, it reminds me of

The movie I have chosen to write my movie analysis on is Milk, directed by Gus Van Sant,
released in 2008. When we were given this assignment I knew right away this is movie was the
one I wanted to write about. Leadership, charisma, and hope were just a few of the many traits
Harvey Milk had throughout this movie. Milk, is a filmabout the transformations of gay rights
through the viewing of politics. Ultimately, this movie showed how Harvey was running for
Board of Supervisors, and all of the struggles that came with it. Harvey simply wanted the gays to
be accepted and by doing so, he was running for a position. Harvey was the first openly gay
candidate to run for position. Inspiration is something I believe everyone could take from this...

Sound is a very important aspect to a movie. Previously, we were to watch historical films for
our film class. These movies were somewhat difficult to watch because they had no sound. In
relation, sound is another elemental system that is organized into a series of dialogue, music,
ambience, and effects tracks. Various sounds were heard throughout this movie. Conversing
people, traffic in the city, and occasional music were just a few of the many different sounds.
There were various scenes from Harvey Milks speeches to riots in the streets. Cinematic
language plays a crucial role in the making of this movie. Cinematic language is the tools and
techniques that filmmakers use to convey meaning and mood to the viewer. It also can include
lighting, mise en scene, cinematography, performance, and editing. The intended feeling that
you would get from this movie is inspiration. Harvey was so inspiring by standing up for what he
believes is right and to never give up. Harvey ran for various elections, and ended up being
unsuccessful for a few elections. That did not stop Harvey. He worked harder and harder every

Persuasive Essay On Drinking Soda
In a recent General Conference address remembered by youth and adults alike, President Dieter F.
Uchtdorf explained the challenge of learning how to use a computer when he first became an
apostle in 1994. He jokingly describes how it took a lot of time, patience, reassurance, and many
liters of a diet soda that shall remain nameless , to which the congregation let out a hearty laugh.
President Uchtdorf s statement about drinking soda became a justification and repeatedly quotable
moment for Latter day Saints who frequently drink caffeinated sodas, despite its similar chemical
effects to coffeeand tea, drinks that are well known as against church standards. On September 21,
2017, Brigham Young Universitymade a change to their distributable goods by starting to sell
caffeinated soda drinks on campus, something Food Services had previously made the decision
not to do since the mid 1950s. This decision not only lead to cheering students who no longer felt
the need to smuggle their drinks from off campus sources, but made international news, inspiring
stories from NPR, The Washington Post, The New York Times, and BBC. However, this
decision lead to some disagreement among a few who believe caffeinated beverages are not in
line with the standards of the gospel. The newly offered caffeinated drinks on BYU campus
should not be sold because of the drinks health concerns, addictive properties, and violation of
Word of Wisdom principles. Soda and caffeinehave been proven to cause

Issues of Cultural Diversity and Diet
Cultural Diversity African American Diet
In the present time the African American culture changed quite a bit in being removed from where
they as a people originated or should I say their homeland from whence they came. African
American people are a people who are influenced tremendously from their fore fathers and mothers
who lived in the southern part of the United States. The nomenclature for this group is to include
African American, Black Americans or people of color. I prefer to use African American at this
time since I am preferably writing about my own cultural background. The food habits of African
Americans originated and resolved around food. They are a society who are based around religious

Unfortunately this tends to lead to a lot of obesity among them. A lot of the problem is
contributed to the many celebrations that we celebrate with foods that just throw caution to the
wind so to speak. How ever, people are not all alike and everyone, believe it or not is different
especially when it come to culture. Each culture is bought up different. How they socialize depends
entirely on their cultural upbringing which includes religion, education and even sexual orientation.
With the nature of variations in each cultural group we should never be generalized or taken for
granted that the characteristics apply to all individuals of one cultural group. The diversity of
cultural eating is a main issue in America.

The Comedy of the American Dream Essays
The Comedy of the American Dream
In the early 1950s, the American dream was the nation s common heartbeat. Citizens longed for
the ?ideal? family; most hid their shortcomings. The nuclear family included a mother, father, two
children and a pet, all residing in suburbia, USA. Fathers were the breadwinners, and mothers
stayed home, cooked, and cared for the kids. Each family included a boy and a girl, the former
who always parted his hair to the side and the latter who always wore pigtails. The nation was
convinced that if one worked hard enough, he or she could earn enough money to support the
family and have plenty of professional satisfaction. Everyone sat down to dinner together nightly,
and discussed his/her day, and innocence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main comedy of the picture arises from the innocence of the characters clashing with the
worldly realisms, and the color transformation of Pleasantville parallels the transition that American
humor has taken over the past half century. Despite the harsh realities of the Depression and World
War II that led up to this age, an innocence was assumed during the 50s; today, no subject is too
controversial for television. In fact, the main facet of American humor today is the shock between
the ideology of the American dream as it supposedly existed earlier this century and the subsequent
recognition of reality.
Historians and academics offer definitions which underlie today?s humor. In 1937, Walter Blair,
whose 60 year study of humor focused on the nineteenth century development of the genre, stated
that American humor was neither produced only in America nor contained characteristics privy
only to Americans. He offered instead that American humor meant ?humor which is American in
that it has an emphatic ?native quality??a quality imparted by its subject matter and its technique?
(92). H. R. Haweis, half a century earlier in 1882, had defined the technique of American humor as
the three shocks of contrast: business and piety, Aboriginal and Yankee, and the bigness of
American nature versus the smallness of

The Films Of Federico Fellini Analysis
Bondanella, P. (2002). The Films of Federico Fellini. Cambridge, UK: Cambridge University
Press. The Films of Federico Fellini examines the career and work of Italy s most revered
filmmakers. By analyzing the masterpieces of Fellini, the book attempts to categorize the
influence of his work, and explain some of his interests in fantasy, the irrational, and
individualism. Bondanella essentially rejects more common ways of analyzing Fellini s work
and favors trying to explore the development of his unique and personal cinematic style.
Bondanella highlights some of the major accomplishments in the life of the renowned Italian
filmmaker. One of the most striking features of Bondanella work is his ability to tell the story of
Fellini by using the works of the filmmaker. In particular, Bondanella is able to draw on a new
archive of manuscripts, obtained from Fellini and his scriptwriters. This level of in depth
analysis allows researchers to get a detailed view of Fellini s work that has inspired generations of
not only Italian filmmakers, but also in the rest of the world. The author suggests that Fellini s use
of realism in film allows the audience to connect on a whole another level of intimacy with the
characters in the film, allowing for better characterization in his cinema. We can use this
information accumulated by Bondanella to emphasize the tremendous importance of Fellini s work.
The further analysis of Fellini s films, such as La Dolce Vita, 812, and City of Women,

The Star Of Star Stars
Our universe is made of millions of objects, many of them, we wonder how they became part of
this planet we live on. The star is one of these objects, sometimes we wonder how they maintain
their brightness and attractiveness. The main sequence stars, red dwarf stars and white dwarf stars
are some of these objects. The stages of each starare very different and have different variations of
life. The life of each star varies being that the longest a star can survive is up to trillions of years.
There are trillions of stars that sparkle in the sky and each star are very different from each other
and are very unique. Main sequence stars, Red dwarf stars and the white dwarfstars are all very
unique in every way.
A large portion of the stars in the universe, around about 90 percent of them, are principle main
sequence stars. The sun is one of the main sequence stars and the largest. These stars can go from
about a tenth of the mass of the sun to up to 200 times larger. Stars are the magnificent bodies like
the sun that are extremely hot and have light they could call their own. Each star is a tremendous
mass of hot gasses and enormous flares that are leaving it. Stars are comprised of endless billows
of hydrogen gas, some helium and dust. In all the stars (counting the sun), hydrogen particles are
consistently being changed over into helium molecules and a lot of atomic vitality as warmth and
light is discharged amid this methodology. It is this light which makes a star

The Epic Of Beowulf By William Beowulf
The book Beowulf is a story of a man named Beowulf, who comes from the land of the Geats,
who is continuously put to the test having to fight in battles, in which in his last battle he Beowulf
finds death. After reading Beowulf I have concluded that this book is meant to glorify the men
who have fought and succeeded in violent battles. Those men hold a legacy and power in which
there name is known throughout. Those same men have children or sons and their sons continue to
hold that legacy with them and make one of their own, if they do not then they no longer have
power and fame and become unknown. Therefore in order to hold a legacy, have power, and
become known, one must fight in brutal wars and must win in those wars, and one main person that
fulfilled this duty was Beowulf.
As the story begins it introduces a warrior, King Shield Sheafson, scourge of many tribes, a
wrecker of mead benches, rampaging amoung foes (3). Although he did not have a father he,
flourished later on as his powers waxed and his worth was proved (3), he was known as one
good king. It is he who became the founding father that started a legacy for the land of the Danes.
King Shield had a famous son named Beow, who was then passed the throne after his father s
death. Beow was known through the North and was well regarded and ruled the Danes for a long
time (7). He fathered four children, Heorogar, Hrothgar, Halga, and a daughter. Hrothgar is the only
son that became known. Herorogar, Halga, and his

Comparing Plath s The Bell Jar And Its Affiliates
The Bell Jar and Its Affiliates
Frequently, a writer will express the same symbols and themes in a variety of their works. This
is the case with Sylvia Plath, who not only wrote a multitude of poems, but also wrote the
renowned novel, The Bell Jar. Three of Plath s poems that share similar elements to her novel are
Lorelei , Daddy , and The Applicant . These ideas include death beckoning the characters, an
unstable family unit, and sexism towards women. The poems Lorelei , Daddy , and The Applicant
can be compared to Plath s novel The Bell Jar, by examining the key themes and characteristics of
the works. The first of Plath s poems that is comparable to The Bell Jar is Lorelei . In both of the
works, death beckons to the characters. In Lorelei , siren like creatures beckon for the speaker to
drown herself. The speaker notes how their ice hearted calling (Lorelei 31) is compelling her to
commit suicide. This can be compared to the ocean waves in The Bell Jar, which [draw] back, like

This poem shows all of the sexist expectations of a woman that the protagonist in The Bell Jar
hopes to escape. The poem objectifies women as possessions that are supposed to bring teacups

detests these ideals, refusing to learn a new way of writing as [she] hate[s] the idea of serving
men in any way (Bell Jar 76). Esther also goes so far as to proclaim that she does not want to get
married. She states that the last thing she want[s is] infinite security and to be the place an arrow
shoots off from. [She wants] change and excitement and to shoot off in all directions [herself],
like the colored arrows from a Fourth of July rocket (Bell Jar 83). The objectification of women in

  • 2. Explosion Of Crime In America The scholarly evidence, in short, suggests that at the heart of the explosion of crime in America is the loss of the capacity of fathers and mothers to be responsible in caring for the children they bring into the world. Congress assume the high level of crime in America have its roots in poor employment opportunities and a shortage of adequately funded social program This is one issue that we have to take a look at and address. These shortcomings can be fix if we work together. While doing this research I learn that children as young as 6 or 7 are carted off in handcuffs, locked up and saddled with permanent criminal records. Trayvon McRae was one of the those 6 years old. • 4. Essay On Scavenger At the start of this book, it has been twenty years since the world fell apart . For one of the two main characters, Peyton, the time Before is something she has never experienced only learned about from stories. Freshly eighteen, she becomes the leader of The Mill, her home. The Mill is home to a group called the Settlers, which Peyton s father was in charge of before his death. The other main character is Nixie, a tiny female who belongs to the group called The Scavengers. The Scavenger, unlike the Settlers, move from place to place and are not afraid to do whatever it takes to get the supplies they need to survive: lie, steal, kill. Everything is fair game. Nixie has a special gift, though, which makes her invaluable to her people. She is a dowser, someone who can sense and find water with her body. In all honesty, I don t know which emotion takes precedence. I have a certain soft spot for Dystopian novels, and on that factor this book did not disappoint but there were also some big issues I had with the plot. Usually, I wouldn t mind if there was no explanation as to why the world has become such a wasteland but throughout The First Twenty, there is no explanation of anything. It is simply actions, consequences (more often poorly executed ones), and more description of the two main characters than anything else. There is no background. We are thrust into this decaying world, and not even those from the Before say anything about what happened. Was it a nuclear war? Did the government collapse? There were too many open ends that left for misunderstandings. This Before couldn t have been that long ago, there are still plenty of people alive who remember what it was like and even still follow through with the same practices like using last names. If it was so recent, why don t we know anything about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. What Is The Mood Of The Poem Blackberry-Picking In the poem Blackberry Picking, the author discusses the harshness of life by describing his experience picking blackberries. While the poem is rather dark, he maintains the message that childish hopes still exist despite the continual blockade of reality. In the first stanza, Heaney describes the berry picking as a rather unimportant task. The blackberries represent the hope and excitement that summer is: summer s blood was in it (6). The childish hopefulness is expressed in the conversational tone, created by the syntax found within the rhythm. The author organizes the sentences in a way that varies the stressed and unstressed syllable to keep the experience of berry picking casual and light. The rhyme scheme of AABB keeps a sense of organized structure throughout the poem. The author often includes slant rhyme to eliminate the sing song pattern many poems have: for /hunger (7 8). The use of descriptive diction allows the reader to clearly visualize the experience. The clear imagery of the berry s flesh (5) sweetened like thickened wine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is paradoxically established when the author says: all the lovely canfuls smelt of rot (23). The hopes of sweet and lovely blackberries are destroyed by the inevitable decay of what was sweet and satisfying in the berries. This grim picture of the destruction of the things we cherish enough to search for even when wet grass bleached our boots (10), displays a depressing picture of the world around us. Although human possessions, in this case the berries, do not live forever, the hope that goodness will carry on is exhibited in the childish hopes that the berries will stay fresh despite the knowledge that the berries themselves will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2.2 Benefits of Traditional Budgeting Budgeting is a management control technique that can be used as an early warning system. Budgets are of great help as a support performance management (Pietrzak, 2013). It can provide a detailed information insight of the next fiscal year, which allows managers to set performance objectives much more easily, make decisions and plan ahead. For example: When recession hit Europe in 2008, Davis Service Group was able to assess effects and was able to build new and accurate theories for the remainder of 2008. By recognizing and handling risks, Davis has been able to return profits, dividends and cash flow for shareholders in a challenging economic environment. Budgets generate a point of reference, making it easier for managers to accomplish activities with stability. As long as managers can meet the set parameters, budgeting and the use of budgetcost centers provide them with the liberty to run their operations (Neely at al., 2003). Budgets are a great communication tool used when obtaining information about company or e.g. activities of its competitors. They also help in expressing ideas, goals and strategies of projects between team members/employees and outside resources or potential investors, motivating employee to drive forward. 2.3 Drawbacks of Traditional Budgeting To make budgets is a very long and time consuming process, when organisations are trying to get reliable and ... • 12. Essay on Thomas Herzog’s Private House in Regensburg The Private House in Regensburg was built in 1979, which is Thomas Herzog s own home; one can declare that he is the client and designer himself thus fulfilling his own needs or desires for the site. The house demonstrates particular principles of energy efficiency, making it an early eco home. This can be shown by the use of local materials, or taking advantage of the site for characteristics like protection and aesthetics. Thomas Herzog was born in during World War 2 (1941), in Munich, Germany. In 1965 he completed his diploma for architecture at the Technische UniversitГ¤t MГјnchen (University of MГјnchen) and in 1973 he became Germany s youngest professor of architecture at the age of thirty two. The appearance loses the traditional house design and implements that it is an extruded form of a triangle, linking to the hypotenuse of a triangle, reaching right down to the ground. It was designed to appear as if the house is unwarranted (groundless) or the vice versa of it being forced up through the ground. Energy principles were a relatively new idea in the 1970s where Herzog implemented the use of the triangular shape of the house that is designed to collect free solar energy, which is later used to heat the house. Herzog used environmental responsive architecture to integrate energy saving features into the home. Also many architects would argue that the principles of creating a house like this uses the principles of a Lean 2 shed , where it creates a D.I.Y aesthetics. Linking to the idea of conservatories being around since Victorian times but was always an addition to the conventional house . Herzog merged the two together by creating a two storey house with a conservatory attached, except that both elements share the same roofline. Herzog makes regularity and flexibility another architectural theme that is seen just as valuable to energy saving throughout the house. The plan of the house is designed to distribute or allocate space proportionally, which is layered via an abstract grid. Which can be combined in different ways either horizontally or vertically. The poster was designed by Vera Sergeyevna Korableva, a pro Stalinist propagandist, and was designed and produced in the 1930s. The source is likely to be heavily bias in favour of Stalin and the government at that time. Collectivisation had a big impact on Russia for both positive and negative reasons; it was a failure in the aspect that it caused chaos in agriculture and due to the problems caused, millions died due to famine and poverty in the short term. Grain harvests dropped dramatically during the early 1930s and took until the late 1930s for yield to rise again. However, in the long run, a food surplus was secured and so could be used to feed and pay for the industrial workforce needed for the 5 year plan. It was also incredibly significant in history as it showed how much control Stalin had over Soviet Russia and the fear that the peasants lived in; for example if they were caught stealing even just a few pieces of grain they could be executed or imprisoned for up to 10 years. The lasting impression that is received from the wide tolerance of this policy was how small and insignificant the few rebellions were that were organised. This further demonstrates the power and influence held over the peasants during this period of time. The five year plans were designed to combat the lack of industrialisation in the Soviet Union by increasing the output of enterprises via setting targets for the companies. If these targets were not met, due to the lawfulness of the plans, the people responsible could be treated as if they had committed a criminal offence . The historical drama, Selma (2014), directed by Ava DuVernay, depicts some of the struggles African Americans faced in the pursuit of equality and justice during the mid 1950 s to 1960 s, and the role Martin Luther King Jr. played in his attempt to overcome such inequalities. Even before its release, Selmareceived backlash from critics who claimed it falsely depicted Lyndon B. Johnsonat odds with Martin Luther King Jr, and alleged that the murder of the four girls at the Birmingham Church occurred in September 1963, rather than at the end of 1964, which the film suggests. Regardless of such claims, the film, Selma, does depict a historical event set forth by Martin Luther King Jr. in 1965. During this time period, racial segregation was prominent, especially in the southern states. The government justified such segregation based on the 14th Amendment s wording of separate but equal . However, many African Americans were dissatisfied and demanded true equality. It was not until the mid 1960 s, after Martin Luther King Jr. was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, that racial tension began to decline. • 26. Soft Drink Industry Case Study 1.Why, historically, has the soft drink industry been so profitable? There are several reasons why the soft drink industry has been so profitable. One reason is because these soda companies directly distribute to stores that sell their product. They do a good job in avoiding a middle man which would cost a lot more. Instead, they handle all the packaging and bottling before the soda gets to the shelf so they don t have to pay those extra costs associated with a middle man and keep all that profit. Also, carbonated drinks are cheap to produce and have a high profit margin. Every aspect of the making and bottling process is inexpensive so it makes it very easy to turn a profit. This is the same for both bottles and fountain sales. For the fountain all you have to do is install the fountain and then refill it so it is inexpensive. Another way they are profitable is because these soda companies have contracts with stores making it impossible for competitors to sell their version of CSD s in the same location. They put the contracts in place in order to avoid another company selling and taking their profit and also so the stores and restaurants won t make it competitive for them when it doesn t have to be. • 34. Morality Is A Big Theme Throughout The Book Les Miserables C project Legality versus morality was a big theme throughout the book Les Miserables. Two of the main main characters, Javert and Jean Valjean conflict on that issue many times. Jean Valjean is a man of his morals rather than the law, whereas Javert is strictly about the law, and nothing else. Both of these characters face many legal and moral issues throughout the book. Jean Valjean looks into his morals when he is faced with a dilemma. The first time that this becomes apparent is the beginning of the book, when we learn why he is in jail. Valjean was faced with jail time because his family was struggling and starving and he thought is was morally okay to steal bread for his family even though it was illegal. Valjean stealing the bread even though it was illegal, but because his family needs it his morals say that it is okay for him to do so, showing legality versus morality. Another thing that Valjean does that demonstrate this theme is that when Javert tells Valjean(when he is mayor and going under the name of Madeleine) that someone has been caught under his name. If he decides to do nothing he will then face no legal troubles any more, but because of his morals he decides the right thing to do is to go to the court where this trail is taking place, and say that he is the real Valjean. He think it is immoral to let this man suffer for his actions, so he decides to reveal himself. Javert is the opposite of Valjean, and relies heavily on the legality side. In the ... It has evolved from paternalism (the doctor makes the decision for the patient) to shared decision making where the patient is considered an equal partner in his/her own health related decisions. Informed consent is the cornerstone for this view. When a patient or a research subject makes an autonomous decision after understanding, the risks and benefits involved with the decision is Informed consent. This meaning is subjective and can be different for each provider. Another issue with the implementation of Informed consent arises when the patient waives the right to Informed consent and leaves the right to make the decision on the physician. Though legally correct, this can cause psychological stress for the physician especially when the decision is about a life threatening medical condition. Moreover, this also makes the patient vulnerable to abuse. (Manthous, DeGirolamo, 2003) Legally and ethically under Informed consent a patient has the right to refuse specialty treatment or referral but needs to be informed about the risks involved with delay or lack of the specific treatment recommended. During the 1970s, dark matter had been discovered accidentally by astronomers Vera Rubin and Kent Ford, they were observing galaxies and they noticed that stars far from the galaxy centre had a velocity similar to the celestial objects closer in. The observation was unexpected due to the visible mass of galaxies lacking the required gravity to keep the further stars in the orbit, therefore the astronomers were faced with a missing mass problem and the concept of dark matter had been created (16). The main problem with dark matter is that we can t observe it directly, we must indirectly study its interaction with normal matter to be learn more about it (17). There may be a misconception between what is observed and what is known to be there, for example; if a man is floating mid air, due to the fact that humans are unable to fly; it can be concluded that there must be something holding the man up there (2). In 1997, Hubble Space Telescope revealed light from far galaxies bent due a mass of 250 times greater than the visible mass which that scientists believe dark matter is the reason for (18). • 45. A Personal Budget Can Be A Reflection Of A Federal Budget A personal budget can be a reflection of a Federal budget. The process to creating a budget for either personal or federal would involve several steps. However, as you will see, a federal budget has a lot more involved than just a personal budget. In making a federal budget a number of parties are involved, which makes it a lot more complex. All of this includes having an estimate of revenue and an estimate of expenses. In order to make a personal budget you have to figure out what your income is for a period of time (like a month). You then would estimate your savings and expense for the month. You have to think of the regular expense that you have such as food and gas as well as the occasional cost like birthday gifts or unexpected repairs. It is a good idea to know what your regular bills are and how much you bring in from your paycheck during that period of time that you look at. The federal budget works in a similar way. A fiscal year is more than twelve months. It has to be from October first through September thirtieth. The first step in making a federal budget includes taking the estimated accounts for a period of twelve months chosen. The government begins in October and ends in September of the next year. This period is called a fiscal year. In that year they take all the revenue and expenditure in order to help create an estimate for the following fiscal year, just like you would for a personal budget plan. Revenue is talking about where the money has come from. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Films of Federico Fellini examines the career and work of Italy s most revered filmmakers. Bondanella essentially rejects more common ways of analyzing Fellini s work and favors trying to explore the development of his unique and personal cinematic style. One of the most striking features of Bondanella work is his ability to tell the story of Fellini by using the works of the filmmaker. • 54. The Epic Of Beowulf By William Beowulf The book Beowulf is a story of a man named Beowulf, who comes from the land of the Geats, who is continuously put to the test having to fight in battles, in which in his last battle he Beowulf finds death. After reading Beowulf I have concluded that this book is meant to glorify the men who have fought and succeeded in violent battles. Those men hold a legacy and power in which there name is known throughout. Those same men have children or sons and their sons continue to hold that legacy with them and make one of their own, if they do not then they no longer have power and fame and become unknown. Therefore in order to hold a legacy, have power, and become known, one must fight in brutal wars and must win in those wars, and one main person that fulfilled this duty was Beowulf. As the story begins it introduces a warrior, King Shield Sheafson, scourge of many tribes, a wrecker of mead benches, rampaging amoung foes (3). Although he did not have a father he, flourished later on as his powers waxed and his worth was proved (3), he was known as one good king. It is he who became the founding father that started a legacy for the land of the Danes. King Shield had a famous son named Beow, who was then passed the throne after his father s death. Beow was known through the North and was well regarded and ruled the Danes for a long time (7). He fathered four children, Heorogar, Hrothgar, Halga, and a daughter. Hrothgar is the only son that became known. Herorogar, Halga, and his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Comparing Plath s The Bell Jar And Its Affiliates The Bell Jar and Its Affiliates Frequently, a writer will express the same symbols and themes in a variety of their works. This is the case with Sylvia Plath, who not only wrote a multitude of poems, but also wrote the renowned novel, The Bell Jar. Three of Plath s poems that share similar elements to her novel are Lorelei , Daddy , and The Applicant . These ideas include death beckoning the characters, an unstable family unit, and sexism towards women. The poems Lorelei , Daddy , and The Applicant can be compared to Plath s novel The Bell Jar, by examining the key themes and characteristics of the works. The first of Plath s poems that is comparable to The Bell Jar is Lorelei . In both of the works, death beckons to the characters. In Lorelei , siren like creatures beckon for the speaker to drown herself. The speaker notes how their ice hearted calling (Lorelei 31) is compelling her to commit suicide. This can be compared to the ocean waves in The Bell Jar, which [draw] back, like a hand, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This poem shows all of the sexist expectations of a woman that the protagonist in The Bell Jar hopes to escape. The poem objectifies women as possessions that are supposed to bring teacups and roll away headaches / and do whatever you tell them (Applicant 13 14). Esther, however, detests these ideals, refusing to learn a new way of writing as [she] hate[s] the idea of serving men in any way (Bell Jar 76). Esther also goes so far as to proclaim that she does not want to get married. She states that the last thing she want[s is] infinite security and to be the place an arrow shoots off from. [She wants] change and excitement and to shoot off in all directions [herself], like the colored arrows from a Fourth of July rocket (Bell Jar 83). The objectification of women in both The Bell Jar and The Applicant is one of the key elements that draw a correlation between the two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
