3. Essay Todays Rising Gas Prices
Today s Rising Gas Prices
At some point in everyone s lives, we are affected by the rising gas prices in today s economy.
Natural gas is not a renewable resource, since there is a fixed amount of it trapped in the Earth.
However, many people carry the misconception that there is a very limited amount of natural gas,
and that we may use all of it up. This isn t true. The gas shortages of the 1970 s were prompted
by the government s lack of faith in the industry s ability to discover and develop new reserves,
not by lack of gas supply. The unfortunate impression left by the shortages of gas in the 1970 s
caused the people to believe that there was a small amount of gas left. On the contrary, the gas
resource base is vast, and probably even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inflation can be noticed when the prices of basic commodities increases such as milk, gas and
bread. It is a rise in all prices simultaneously. Inflation is caused when the demand for something
exceeds the supply. This causes the price of that particular item to go up which in turn causes
wages to go up and operating costs also increase (inflation).
Over the past two years, oil prices have increased very rapidly. With OPECproduction cuts and a
growth in crude oil demand, oil prices went from a 25 year low of $11 per barrel in February
1999 to a peak of close to $36 per barrel in December 2003 (Jablon 1). Some analyst, however,
said the cut could soon push crude prices above the psychologically important threshold of $40
per barrel and worsen the pain for U.S. motorists ( Rising Prices Fuel Gas Clash 1). During this
winter, the price of natural gas has gone through the roof. This brings many questions to mind. Are
the companies just raising prices? Is there actually a shortage that is causing the raise in price?
It turns out that the market for natural gas is a very competitive one and that there is in fact a
shortage in supply that is causing the price to increase. Natural gas must be drilled for and there
are only a certain number of active companies that drill and they all have a set amount of capital.
In the short run the supply of natural gas is very inelastic because they cannot just produce more
gas. They would need

4. Summary Of Owen Meany s The Foul Ball
1.Chapter 1: The Foul Ball Owen was so tiny, we loved to pick him up; in truth, we [the boys at
Sunday school] couldn t resist picking him up. We thought it was a miracle: how little he
weighted. This was also incongruous because Owen came from a family in the granite business.
[...] But the only the aura of the granite quarry that clung to Owen was the granular dust [...] He
was the color of a gravestone; light was absorbed and reflected by his skin, as with a pearl, so that
he appeared translucent at times (4 5). In the beginning of the novel, Owen Meany evidently
demonstrates transcendent and spiritual qualities, which include his physical weightlessness and
peculiar yet stentorian voice. Ironically, in contrast to his small stature, Owen Meany works in the
granite quarry and learns to carve and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Owen quickly establishes himself as THE VOICE of the student body in Gravesend Academy,
which draws contrast with his shrilly voice and small demeanor. As the highly respected member
of the Gravesend community, Owen takes on the role as the leader of the students, which
parallels with Jesus redemption of humanity in an unworthy world. Headmaster Randy White, the
antagonist, resents THE VOICE because Owen has great influence over the academy and its
students. In a sense, the Gravesend Academy is a microcosm of outside world where the United
States is engaged in a bloody conflict in Vietnam. Therefore, Randy White represents an authority
figure that abuses power and seeks to oppress the student body, and Owen is the martyr who
eventually saves the boys from evil. Although the headmaster manages to expel Owen, Mr. White
fails to win in the battle between good vs. evil, since Owen seeks retribution. Even though Owen
has become THE VOICE, he still remembers of the bigger purpose of his life and the nature of his
death on July 8,

Kanchan Hulasare
The Cloning Debate
According to Mosby s Medical Dictionary, the term cloning is defined as a procedure for
producing multiple copies of genetically identical organisms or cells or of individual genes.
Researchers have conducted several cloning experiments over the years, replicating tissues,
organs, and even full organisms such as Dolly the Sheep in 1997. The history of cloning dates
back to the early 1900 s when Hans Adolf Edward Dreisch studied the results of separating two
celled sea urchin embryos ( The History of Cloning ). The process has since evolved and become a
process that is widely talked about amongst doctors, scientists and the general public. The process
of cloning has been predicted to play a significant role in medical advancements in the near future.
The main areas of which cloning could potentially affect are treatments for various diseases through
organ replacement and infertility. As many topics in science, controversy exists regarding the
subject of cloning in addition to its advantages and disadvantages.
One advantage of cloning is the ability to produce organs and tissues for diseases and medical
conditions that require transplantation. The national waitlist for organ donation consists of more
than one hundred thousand patients and increases by nearly four thousand patients a day ( Organ
Donation and Transplantation ). The amount of donors is much less in comparison to the number
of recipients. As of 2013,

6. The French Art Nouveau Movement And The International...
Throughout history, the motifs and characteristics of graphic design have changed tremendously.
The unique qualities of poster designs from the French Art Nouveau movement and the
International Typographic Style both reflect their social environments at the time. Henri de

demonstrate the techniques and qualities of the Art Nouveauera, while Josef MГјller Brockmann s
Der Film and Neue Grafik / New Graphic Design / Graphisme actuel, no. 2 by Carlo L. Vivarelli
demonstrate the techniques and qualities of the International Typographic Style.
La Goulue au Moulin Rouge, a color lithograph created in 1891 by the French artist Henri de
Toulouse Lautrec, is a predominant design work which reflects the art of the French Art Nouveau.
Toulouse Lautrec was a prolific artist who created a great number of paintings, drawings, etchings,
lithographs, posters, and illustrations for various newspapers (Funk Wagnalls). Toulouse Lautrec
had flirted with Impressionism in his adolescent works, absorbed the lessons of the Japanese
woodblock Ukiyo e prints and developed an immediately recognizable style with its crisp
articulation of form, abrupt truncations of compositional structures and vivid colors used as much
for emotional impact as for their descriptive value (Grishin 64). One piece that specifically
exemplifies those characteristics would be his poster, La Goulue au Moulin Rouge. The poster was

11. The Ethics of Genetically Enhancing Children Essay
The term designer children is unnerving at first to many. The idea of parents designing the genetic
makeup of their offspring makes children seem like a commodity in a genetic free market. Thoughts
of a dystopian society like the one in the film Gattaca come to mind. However, taking an immediate
repugnant stand against genetic enhancement is not well founded. A more open minded inspection
of the issue reveals that the idea of parents improving their children s life prospects through genetic
engineering(provided it is safe) is, at its core, not unethical. In fact, some genetic enhancement in
addition to correcting deleterious genes to prevent disease is a moral obligation. It is moral to
make rational decisions using the science and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Genetic enhancement is just another form of enhancement which has the benefit of the child in
mind. There are many others: education, medical care, extra curricular activities, etc. As Goering
puts it, a parent does not blink when they give the child vitamin supplements, vaccinations, and
dental enhancements (e.g., braces) [Goering, 2]. Imposing parental treatment is a part of being
human and is ethical when the intentions are beneficent. There is no real difference in changing
attributes of a child for the better at the genome level, or once the child is born. If administering
growth hormones to young children to prevent them from being too short [Simon] is justifiable,
then so is germline genetic modification of height to produce the same result. Or, if parents are fine
with the installation of braces to straighten their child s teeth, then they should be fine with genetic
manipulation instead to produce the same outcome. The two actions are basically the same; the
latter is perhaps even better as it eliminates the discomfort of being forced to wear braces. One may
object that genetic enhancement is unethical because it is not natural and we are losing something
precious by

driving particularly if you re towing a boat, trailer or other vehicle. Better to be safe than sorry.
Test your air conditioner. You ll know if cold air is coming out when you turn it on, but you may

According to Sullivan they found a heavy flat olive tinged stone about two feet long, fifteen
inches wide and ten inches thick set in its center. It was inscribed with strange markings (4).
Along with the treasure they also managed to trigger a booby trap that flooded the Money Pit
and no matter what they did they couldn t drain the water and they finally ended up broke and
disheartened. According to Activeminds.com forty five years later another group called the
Truro Company took a turn at trying to excavate the Money Pit, but they too met with flooding
and found that there were underground flood tunnels that were shaped like a fingers and were
engineered by people of great cunning and skill. The tunnels automatically filled with water
from the Atlantic Ocean as soon as anyone dug it to 90 feet or beyond. People have tried to blast
it, bulldoze it, and try syphoning the water out by using pumps, but all efforts were meet with
defeat ( Treasure: Oak Island ). In 1850 the Truro Company that was trying to excavate Oak

actually artificial and was causing the Money pit and all surrounding holes to flood. The Truro

15. Populist Party
With tension on the rise, American farmers continue to demand reforms to lift their burden of debt
as well as greater representation in government. Recently, with the tremendous growth in
industrialization of oil and steel, migrants have felt the difficulties associated with farming and
continue to fall into arrears.
New organizations have been formed to attempt to resolve the debt issue. One of these
organizations, calling themselves the Populist Party, is proposing economic reforms to increase the
money supply. The reforms aim to pass immigrationquotas, create a federal loan program, and
establish a graduated income tax, which are all crucial for many indebted farmers. The first
objective outlined on the Populist s agenda is to place restrictions ... Show more content on

Do the Railroads Help or Hurt?
Farmers are being tricked into moving West. The government is declaring that it is easy for
farmers to make a good living in the Midwest and for them to come out and reap the rewards. The
government is also promising that the railroads will allow farmers to prosper by letting them send
their products all over the nation.
But recent reports state that the railroads are profiting off of the farmers by charging more to
transport their goods than the profit the farmers are making from their products. The government
has not put in place any regulations to prevent the railroads from charging the farmers so much.
Without these types of regulations, railroad owners can set prices, no matter how high, which is
affecting the farmers livelihoods. This has led many farmers to file for bankruptcy forcing them
back East.

16. The Correction Of Refractive Errors
Before considering the correction of refractive errors, one must first understand the basics of the
eye and how it uses the process of refraction to create visual images. The process of refraction
begins with light as it comes in from external sources, with the amount of light being regulated by
the pupil, the large, black, circular opening at the front of the eye. The size of one s pupil is further
regulated by the iris, the even larger, circular, colored part of the eye. Once light rays make
contact with the eye, they hit the cornea, the clear, dome shaped layer that covers the front of the
eyeball. When the light rays hit the cornea, the cornea bends (or refracts) them in a primary stage
which is followed up by the lens, a clear surface behind the pupil which further focuses the light
rays (now becoming an image) onto another essential part of the eye: the retina, which is located
along the back inside surface of the eyeball. The retina is a thin, delicate, photosensitive tissue that
contains the special photoreceptor cells that convert light into electrical signals ( How we see ).
These electrical signals act as messages that are further processed and then sent to the brain via the
optic nerve, a bundle of nerves that connect to the back of the eye. When they reach the brain, the
brain interprets them and they become the images that one sees. Therefore, at its core, vision truly
comes from the brain. Within this basic process of refraction in the

17. Vocational Education’s Image for the 21st Century Essay
Vocational Education s Image for the 21st Century
These are hard times for secondary vocational education. Leaders of the new school reform
movement do not give it high priority. They assume that it is separate from general education, has
little educational value, and should be replaced by a predominantly academic curriculum. At best
vocational courses are expected to provide students who are not college bound with minimal
training for low status jobs at entry level (Silberman 1986). Ask a vocational educator to name the
most serious issues facing the field today, and most will rank our image problem high on the list (

The reasons varied, but the one most often cited was public image: negative baggage associated
with the word vocational (Ries 1997).
This ERIC Digest gives a brief overview of strategic marketing and how it can build a stronger
image for vocational education.
Let s Get Serious about Image Building
In recent years, industries such as health care, finance, and law have been aggressively marketing
their services. This departure from tradition is a response to sweeping changes in technology,
demographics, and new customer demands. Vocational education, like other service industries,
must respond to such change. Vocational education has much to gain from capitalizing on the
benefits of a comprehensive marketing approach. For a number of years, marketing professionals
have urged vocational educators to get serious about image building. Some of their more pertinent
advice follows.
Shields (1989) feels that vocational education can weather the assaults on its contributions to school
by aggressively marketing itself. He offers these steps for marketing vocational education:
1. Identify internal (teachers, counselors, students, school board members) and external (parents,
taxpayers, civic groups, and professional organizations) markets you want to sell on vocational
education.
2. Build your network and tap into it. Assign each staff person

18. The Object Oriented ( Oo ) Environment And The Strategies...
Executive Summary:
This research report discusses about the object oriented (OO) environment and the strategies that
are used for testing an object oriented environment. The report also lists the tactics and metrics for
testing in an object oriented environment. The object oriented approach closely relates the
programs to the real world with the help of objects. The popularity of OO approach has increased
due to ease of reuse and modular architecture that leads to quality software. Software testing is
important to ensure delivery of error free software. Testing an OO program is challenging because
of the complexity due to interconnection among the components. Various testing strategies and
methods can be followed to test OO software. Apart from the strategies and methods certain metrics
need to be considered and used to measure the quality of the projects. Software metrics are proven
measures for measuring the development of the software process.
OO programs are based on hierarchy of classes and objects. The four pillars, encapsulation,
inheritance, polymorphism and abstraction can be used to achieve reusability of code. As
compared to the conventional software programming, the faults are not found in code, instead are
in the interaction of the chunks of codes. Testing of an OO program begins with reviewing the
object oriented analysis (OOA) and object oriented design (OOD) models. Variety of Testing
strategies such as unit testing, thread based, use based and cluster

21. Music Education Has On A Student
Music education is often pushed to the side in terms of academics. It is often the victim of many
budget cuts as it is seen as unnecessary and expensive. Looking from an outside point of view, most
fail to realize how much of an impact music has on a student. The only loss they see when cutting a
music program is that a student would simply no longer have the ability to learn an instrument.
However, music educationproves to provide much more knowledge and skills to a student than that.
In learningany subject, a student learns much more than just that subject. For example, they might
learn to think critically, think outside of the box, or learn to see things in different perspectives.
Music is just the same. Any student gains much more than only the skillto play an instrument. In
fact, music is special. It is much different than what is regularly taught in school. It takes on a
different perspective of learning, but also, multiple aspects of a student s brain is needed in order to
carry out the function to learn music. In these sources listed below, these articles focus on how
music education does benefit its learner in many different ways. Music educated students excel not
only in music, but studies have proven that they do better in academic based subjects than those
who have not taken music classes. They gain skills that help them in thinking, learning, creating,
and even perseverance. Students educated in music receive much more than they expect. These

From 1993 through 1995, Clarkson Lumber Company experienced significant sales growth
19.0% from 1993 to 1994 and 30.0% between 1994 and 1995. Profitability also increased, but not
nearly at the same pace as sales revenue. Net income rose from $60,000 in 1993 to $68,000 in
1994 (a 13.3% increase), to $77,000 in 1995 (13.2% increase). This increase in sales and
profitability demanded growth in working capital and fixed assets to finance the growth, creating
a need for cash that outpaced free cash flow into the firm. Furthermore, Mr. Clarkson s buyout
payments to Mr. Holtz in 1995 and 1996 only added to the liquidity predicament. Thus, Clarkson
was compelled to draw upon his line of credit with Suburban National Bank and begin relying
heavily on trade credit, quickly maxing out his bank credit line by the end of 1995.
The financial strength of Clarkson Lumber has deteriorated between 1993 and 1995. Clarkson
had a free cash flow to the firm of +$2,000 in 1994, but that dropped to $159,000 for 1995.
EBITDA increased over the period, but not matching the pace of net debt increases; Clarkson s
leverage (Net Debt / EBITDA) was 1.21 in 1993, increasing to 2.31 and 2.95 in 1994 and 1995,
respectively. First quarter 1996 statements annualized over the entire year projected leverage to
increase to 4.94 by the end of 1996, assuming no credit line cap and no other changes.

23. Speech On The Oppressed By Paulo Freire
Mohamad Afiq Md Daud

Conversation Plan
In Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Paulo Freire describes about what the education system supposedly
need to be. He critiques that the education during his era is almost as similar as dictatorship. In this
style of education, teacher has the superiority over their students. The teacher is the one who know
everything, while the students are considered to know nothing, and that is absolutely unfair
towards the students because they do not have the chance to learning . Furthermore, based on Kirp s
excerpt entitled Make School a Democracy , he reveals the solution towards the education system
problem during Freire s era. The solution is also known as Escuela Nueva (New School) model.
Hence, what do I realize is the education is a process of teaching and learning between the teacher
and the students. An effective education system leads the students in becoming a person with a
good thinking skills who able to understand the facts rather than memorizing it. Based on what I
have read, I recognized that both Freire and Kirp have a similar main idea in fighting for the
education rights. They suggest that education needs to be an interactive learning. Both teacher and
students need to communicate by making discussion or sharing opinions; this theory is also called
as problem posing education. For example, a teacher is posing a question for the students, and he or
she has already prepared the answer; however, the students independently

In 1993, Steven Ells opened a taqueria in Denver, Colorado built on the idea of offering the
highest quality food with an open kitchen concept. This restaurant was named Chipotle Mexican

casual segment offers consumers a portable convenient meal option while focusing on using the
freshest, highest quality ingredients to prepare the customizable made to order meals
(Subramanian, 2013). There are two other restaurant segments in which fast casual restaurants
compete: full service and quick service. According to a conference call on October 18, 2012,

Despite the fact that many organizations have embraced the new management strategies in
reflexivity, there are still countless issues in the same regard. It is also vital to remember that for an
entity to remain competitive in the market, it must formulate workable management strategies. In
this survey, it is demonstrated that it is the sole responsibility of the reflexive managers to make
sure that there is a flow of communication pattern in the company. The models include the research

Therefore, it is vital for public administrators to become vigilant in embracing reflexivity when
dealing with employees, business partners, and the entire stakeholders. Management should make a
habit of understanding self reflexivity so that it can help in realizing the realities and the critical
nature of the organizational processes. There are two levels of reflexivity including the self and the
critical decision of minds (Cunliffe and Jong, 2005).
Reflexivity in Organizations
In the philosophy of science, reflex and reflection have been used categorically to mean the same
kind of phenomenon. It is vital to differentiate the two processes so as to know the better one that
suits the functions and operations of an organization. Reflection is primarily the check up of the
actual life issues in the mirror of knowledge and differentiating it from the vague assumptions.
Researchers look at h reflex mode as a means to diversify the workplace and obtain a high standard
of performance. The professionals involved try to use their skills to maintain the situational
improvement in the knowledge and class of actions in the administrations (Adriansen and Hunne,

to addressing public governance. It only means that for an organization to govern their work

Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game by Michael Lewis tells the story of the Oakland
A s, a baseball team that was economically at a disadvantage, and how they relied on statistics to
compete with wealthier teams. At the time, the process of selecting players was strongly based on
usual statistics such has batting average, RBIs, stolen bases, and number of hits. The Oakland A s
General Manager, Billy Beane, changed the game by focusing on Sabermetrics, an unconventional
sports analysis that valued the less obvious statistics of players, such as on base and slugging
percentage, that indirectly contribute to overall wins for the team. With this change in standards
for his players, Billy Beane was able to sign players at much lower costs because traditional
managers overlooked their values.

meaning factories and electricity and television and food. Beavan, being the liberal he is, decided
he wanted to go against what people everywhere have been doing, and attempt to live with no
environmental impact. But I do not necessarily think his No Impact project was a liberal thing to
do. In fact, I think his choice was possibly the most conservative of conservative things anyone has
ever done in recent history. Beavan attempted to live as environmentally friendly as possible for a
year, even choosing to go without electricity. I can only think of one group of people that live in
modern times without electricity, the Amish. The Amish people are just about the most
conservative people, both politically and religiously but also more importantly environmentally, I
could possibly imagine. This thought made me question his background of a liberal as he made a
choice that has so much in common of one

34. Toyota s Recommendation Response At The World s Largest...
Q3: Toyota s recommended response to Volkswagen s ambition of becoming the world s largest
automobile manufacturer, based on the analysis of current market trends, would be to somewhat
disregard them, rather they should focus on developing their own competitive advantages that
allowed them to achieve the title of market leader. Volkswagen plans to grow in Chinese and
Indian markets (De Moraes, 2016). They also aim to double sales in America by 2018 (Kresge
and Weiss, 2015), by following their clean diesel strategy (The Economist, 2015a: 15).
Nevertheless, the 2015 emissions scandal destroyed this ambition (Farrell, 2015). Widespread
recalls and suspended sales led to a loss of market share (Kresge and Weiss, 2015) and fostered a
bad reputation within America (The Economist, 2015b). In 2015, Toyota defended their lead in
sales ahead of Volkswagen (The Telegraph, 2015). Toyota developed cost advantages with their
production system , Volkswagen found it difficult to replicate such optimisation due to union
pressure rife in Germany (De Moraes, 2016: 465). Furthermore, to defend their title, Toyota adopted
strategies of lean manufacturing, strict supplier control and highly efficient distribution
(Schonberger, 1994). Toyota can strengthen their leadership by developing more environmentally
friendly technologies. Volkswagen s emission scandal encouraged the demise of diesel, opening up
lucrative industries in methane, hydrogen and electricity powered vehicles (The

Introduction What I intend to write about
In this report, I will be assessing the British Broadcasting Corporation s decision to broadcast
Jerry Springer: The Opera back on 8th January 2005. In order to judge the decision, I will be
looking at the reasons why the BBC made the decision to air it in 2005. I will be comparing the
number of people who complained to the BBC to the total amount of people who watched the
broadcast using viewing figures and charts. In addition, I will also look at the viewpoints of the
Christian Voice Campaign who argued against the opera. Finally, I will also be using my

BBC s arguments for their decision on televising Jerry Springer: The Opera
According to figures from BBC News, over 1.7 million people tuned in to watch the opera. The
report continues to state that there were 317 phone calls made to the BBC since the transmission
and a mass of them were very supportive. [3] However, there was an overall high figure of 63,000
complaints about the opera and it became the most criticised television programme ever. [4] (Inglis,
Media Ethics. 2014 pers. comm., 8th December) Despite the number of complaints, the BBC
defended their decision on broadcasting the opera through a corporation spokesman. The
spokesman said that the BBC conformed to their choice of televising the contentious opera and that
it endures to be shown to congested audiences in London s theatres. [5] This statement shows that
there were people interested in the opera by the time the BBC broadcasted it. The spokesman
continues by saying that the corporation were proud to see that a broad range of crowds were able
to witness a vital modern musical work. [6] (Created with Microsoft Works Spreadsheet.) BBC

How Muscoskeletal systems affect the running speed of Homo sapiens Acinonyx jubatus Why do
cheetahs run faster than humans for short intervals but humans run for a longer time? The cause of
this is because the cheetah and human contain different muscle fibers in their body. The different
muscle fiber results in the muscles being used differently depending on the situation. In this
research we will identify what the different muscle fibers are and how they work in each organism.
The A. jubatus and the H. sapiens have completely different body structures when compared to each
other. The reason as to which they are being compared is to identity the similarities and differences
in muscle and muscle tissue. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The objective of the experiment is to understand why the A. jubatus and H. sapiens common
ability to run differs greatly. The experiment will analyze the different type of muscle tissue that
each organism has in their muscles and why the muscle tissues behave differently for each
organism. My hypothesis is that A. jubatus will have a greater amount of a specific muscle fiber
in their muscles when compared to the H. Sapiens. A way to look at the muscle tissue of the A.
jubatus is to look at the fiber composition of the muscles and categorize them. By identifying the
fiber composition we will be able to investigate what each muscle fiber does and what its action
is. It is known that skeletal muscles contain different types of muscle fibers (Burke, 1981). Muscle
fibers can be classified into Type I, Type IIa, Type IIb, and Type IIx by staining them with
monoclonal antibody for each myosin heavy chain isoform and metabolic enzyme activities (Pette
and Staron, 1993, 1997) For H. sapiens, there are two main types of fast contracting muscle
fibers which are Type II and those are subdivided into Type IIa and Type IIb. These type of
muscle fibers have different resistances to fatigue. Resistance to fatigue contributes to how
effectively the muscle fibers access energy. The reason H. sapiens are able to run for much longer
is because their leg muscles contain the muscle fibers IIa and IIb. The IIa muscle fibers have a
high capacity for

37. The Fat Girl Analysis
In every culture, there are certain societal standards that people are expected to live up to. Some
have find it easy to accept and fit in, while other struggle to find themselves within society s
ideals. Society places a great emphasis on the way women should look to be considered
beautiful and many women fail to live up to those standards. In the short story The Fat Girl by
Andre Dubus, the reader sees how the main character Louise, a fat girl, struggles to fit in with
pressure society places on her that to be considered beautiful, one must be thin. Louise, for the
majority of her life, outwardly appears as if she s trying to conform to society s standards of dieting
and trying to be thin, but when completely alone, she hides her guilty pleasure of binge eating candy
bars. The pressure is placed upon her from her childhood and follows her throughout her life,
until her marriage falls apart after she gains weight. Andre Dubus shows us, through the events
that occur in Louise s life, that only after accepting ourselves they way we are, despite societal
pressures of conforming to a certain standard, can we begin the road to becoming happy. She
wants to be accepted for who she is, not for what she looks like. It isn t until her marriage dissolves
that she acknowledges that she needs to acceptherself and be comfortable in her own skin before
she can become happy. From a young age, Louise is made aware of the pressure society places
on women to be thin. When she is nine years old, her mother starts pointing out how Louise
needs to start watching what she s eating, and places her on a diet. Her mother tells her, In five
years you ll be in high school and if you re fat the boys won t like you; they won t ask you out
(Dubus 125). Her mother tells her that if by the time she enters high school she isn t thin, she
won t have any chance of being in a relationship or being looked at as beautiful. Louise, and many
other girls who are in a similar situation, are trained at a young age to believe that beauty is
equated with being thin. This makes Louise start out life thinking that she ll never be good
enough; she ll never be accepted by others until she becomes the ideal skinny girl. As a nine year

I believe that nurse poaching from poor nations is unethical. Although there appears to be a shortage
in both developing and developed countries, a nurse should not have to feel that to become
successful, one must leave his or her homeland and family. Each country should address the nursing
shortage and create a system beneficial for recruiting and maintaining nurses within the country
instead of recruiting from poor nations. I believe that enticing nurses from developing countries by
offering high salaries is unfair and unethical because it worsens the state of the developing country
by creating a higher nursing shortage and devastatingly breaks the nurses family apart.

The Bloody Chamber In the short story The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter depicts a naГЇve
young girl who is also the narrator who marries a widow named Marquis. The girl is excited to
venture into the world of adulthood, but that excitement ceases when she discovers the horrifying
truth of her new husband. Her husband begins to display a side that she has never seen before and
what was supposed to be a fairy tale love becomes a story full of lust and violence. In this
unconventional damsel in distress tale, the narrator incorporates imagery, metaphor, and
allusion to portray sexual innuendo and male dominance the husband exerts on women. Right
before the narrator and Marquis, her groom is about to wed, he already started to display a dark
side of him though that thought was shrugged off for the time being. She had noticed that he
looked at her as if he was a connoisseur inspecting horseflesh (6), highlight the metaphor to
compare the bride to that of a tasty meat at the market. By inspecting her as if she was some kind
of object highlights Marquis preference for dominance over women and his violent sexual nature.
The narrator becomes the object of his fetish and as the horseflesh represents her body, it
becomes sexualized in his eyes. As Marquis is compared to that of a connoisseur, this elevates
him to a status where he becomes something of an expert in choosing the right kind of girl who is

initiatives to solidify customer loyalty from top to bottom of the organization. Back in 1997, they
introduced a free of charge online gear swap where members could recycle used outdoor gear. In
2007, MEC opened the first accredited Green LEED(The Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design) distribution center in Surrey, British Columba. LEED encourages and accelerates global
adoption of sustainable green building and development practices. In 2008, MEC developed and
launched a series of annual national paddling and biking expositions. Its been clearly defined that
MEC takes a very Green approach when it comes to business, this is something that directly plays

Fall 2014
I.Introduction
Buddhism was started by a man named Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha ). He was born ca. 563
B.C.E. in Lumbini near the Himalayan foothills. Siddhartha Gautama was the warrior son of a
king and queen. Legend has it that at his birth an astrologer predicted he would withdraw from
the temporal life. His father, in an effort to prevent this, provided him with many luxuries and
pleasures. As a young man, he once went on a series of four chariot rides where he first saw
severe forms of suffering: old age, illness, and death (a corpse), as well as an ascetic renouncer,
according to the Asia Society (2014). The Buddha had a difficult time reconciling his life
compared to human suffering and abandoned his way of life leaving his wife and new son. He
lived in the forest to the point of near starvation. Finally, he ate some food and sat down by a tree
to meditate. According to some approximately six months later he attained Nirvana and discovered
the true answers of suffering and the release from it.
There are three basic principles of the Buddha s teachings: Sila, Samadhi, and Panna. Sila is the
development of morality. Samadhi is the tool to purify the mind on order to see its nature, how to
control it, how to develop it, and make use of it. Panna is wisdom or enlightenment the realization
of the true nature of life and universe at large.

45. Example Of Crime Against Humanity
Overview of Literature Concept 1
This scholarly article explains when abuse is so severe that it surpasses mistreatment of a few
individuals it is called crime against humanity. These crimes against humanity do not happen by
chance or by impulse but are rather the result of well thought out and justified reasoning. Such
crimes are not the result of individuals but instead require large systematic compliance. Crimes
against humanity are founded on the idea that certain human begins are not equal and therefore do
not have rights or protection under the law. Unborn children do not have rights and are not
protected under the law. The most famous example of crimes against humanity is the Jewish
Holocaust that resulted in the killing of six million European Jews because of their race. Abortion
can be compared to crimes against humanity because there is no doubt that abortions are intentional
and systemic. Around 2,500 abortions occur every day in the United States. In 1973, since the
Supreme Court legalized abortion in all states, roughly 60 million unborn children have lost their
lives.
A research professor in Genocide Studies, Gregory Stanton, explains how abortion falls into the
definition of genocide. The word genocide is a combination of the Greek word geno which means
race and the Latin word cide which means killing. The definition of the word genocide is the
intentional and systematic demolition of a national, religious, cultural, ethnic, or any other group of

Phagocytosis is a crucial process in fighting pathogens and clearing away apoptotic debris and
senescent cells. Previous research has suggested that with age, there is a decline in this process,
which can contribute to the build up of senescent cells thus, exacerbating chronic inflammation
(van Deursen 2014). The current paradigm by Linehan et al, 2014 suggests that extracellular
environmental factors and the senescent associated secretory phenotype play a major role in
contributing to decreased phagocytic activity with age. In this experiment, we investigated for the
presence of a cell autonomous impairment in gut phagocytes that could contribute to a decline in
phagocytosis. Moreover, we specifically studied if there was a decline that could... Show more

Analysis of data showed that there was a higher percentage of macrophages than B cells present
within the MHC positive population. The remaining population of cells (3%) can be attributed
to dendritic cells, which have been previously shown to form a small percentage (3%of cells)
within zebrafish gut by Wittamer et al, 2011. While we used visual morphological differences to
distinguish between B cells and macrophages, future experiments can make use of the
mhc2dab:GFP; cd45:DsRed double transgenic (Wittamer et al,2011) which would enable us to
distinguish between macrophages (mhc+; cd45+) and B cells (mhc+) through fluorescent
markers thereby allowing us to FACS sort pure populations if needed as well. We saw that
within the mhc+ cells in the wild type zebrafish gut, phagocytosis by macrophages within gut
phagocytes was higher than B cells. This high proportion of phagocytosis by macrophages
within leukocyte populations is consistent with Page et al s, 2013, in vivo study in which more
than half of the phagocytic cells in murine peritoneal cavity were macrophages. We further
quantified phagocytic efficiency of each cell type within their respective populations. 54.5% of
macrophages within the macrophage population were phagocytic and 33.8% of B cells within
the B cell population were phagocytic. Interestingly, previous research by Li et al, indicated that
teleost fish can show up to 60% of phagocytic behaviour by B cells. However, in contrast, a study
by Page et al, showed only a 2% phagocytic efficiency of zebrafish B cells. While the researchers
acknowledge that there is a possibility that intrinsic experimental conditions could have contributed
to this result, it should also be noted that the in vitro experiment used B cells from the kidney to
test for phagocytic efficiency. B cells from the gut may have

52. Sexual Behavior And Sexual Abuse
In this time there are so many illnesses and disorders that go either unknown or unseen. One that
seems to go misunderstood is sexual compulsive behavior, also known as sexual addiction. Other
ways to refer to it is sexual dependency, hypersexuality, nymphomania(for females) and
satyriasis(for males). Sexual addictionis the phenomenon in which people can not control their
sexual behavior and urges. Those who have this disease is obsessed with sexual thoughts and don t
have the ability to control their urges.
Some people misunderstand this as an excuse to act this way, yet in reality it s a mental disorder
that challeges theindividual. In order for it to be considered an addiction it has to interfere with
their lives.Psychologists don t have a criterion for diagnosing sexual addiction, so they treat it
similar to that of substance abuse. For someone who has sexual addiction, their thoughts all day will
be preoccupied with the thought of sex, and shaping their day around activities that involve sex. For
example, watching pronography, masterbathing or planning events that will either involve sex or
