Community Engagement In The Community
Engaging ourselves as well as engaging in the community with issues of our society makes us open
to different things. Community engagement is the process of working with individuals and groups
to achieve specific goals. It involves community members with making decisions and taking action.
This process of creating a relationship with communitymembers in society that can maintain a
mission with an ultimate goal of making something better. It s an ongoing process with
collaborative work, cooperative dialogue, collective decisions and shared ownership. There are
many different activities that community engagementis involved with, which are community
service, internships, voter s registration, service learning and etc. The primary focus of community
engagement is the practice of moving communities towards change.
The transformation from high school to college was very big for me. Only because I was a
loner and I didn t really get involved with groups nor did I have a social life outside of playing
basketball. When I came to college I made up in my mind that I was going to change. Once I was
introduced to the four pathways that Methodist offered I decide to choose community
engagement. Community engagement fits me best because it gives me a chance to interact with
people and also voices my opinion. I wanted to work on enhancing this aspect because I m a very
shy person with a lot to say. The program would also give me some good information to learn from
and gain knowledge.

Analysis Of The Opening And Operations Of The New Library
On the other hand, student, Brad Kramer wrote that he was utterly overjoyed at the opening and
operations of the new library (Fetter, 1984, 8). Randy Fussell Everett, responded to comments
like this in order for undergraduate students to receive fair treatment and for the Davis Library
to continue as a resource available to all students (Everett, 1984, 8). Everett argued on behalf of
UNC s undergraduate population by pointing out that Richards was once an undergraduate
herself, as well as the fact that all students on campus have research that needed to be done.
Everett was not the only student upset by Richard s article, a group of students also wrote an
article stating, Dear Mary Margaret, Who the hell made you God? and pointed out that blaming
undergraduates for all of the library s problems was ridiculous (Prince, Keith, Turner, McCracken,
Dorm, 1984, 8). Concerns pertaining to the Davis library were not without reason (Trotter, 1984,
1). The number of people using the library was counted for in the Wilson Library during its last
week of operation, totaling 20,681 students, tallied as the number of students that left the library. In
Davis Library s first week, a 41,966 students were counted leaving the library, more than doubling
the number of students. This problem was further pressed in the weeks approaching exams.
University Librarian, James F. Govan, said that the staff had received a drastic increase in the
number of noise complaints given to them since the

Essay on Application for Graduate Program in Electronics
One of the biggest influences in my childhood was my uncle. He was an amateur ham radio
operator and a dedicated electronics hobbyist. This was in the mid 1990s India, where
specialized electronic systems were prohibitively expensive, leading to growth of homebrew
culture. I used to sit in his room every evening and observe with wonder, as he operated his
homebrew radio setup, building strong connections with people across vast distances. His room
which also served as his workshop, was stuffed with a bewildering array of components and spare
parts. Noticing me lurking around, he would call me and try to explain the basics, I would nod
enthusiastically as he mumbled away, but being in primary school I could never make head nor tail

Until that point, I had chosen computer science courses as it was the closest I could get to learning
electronics. Over the duration of my undergrad life, as I spent more and more time embroiled in
my major subjects, this chain of reasoning proved to be perfectly true.
The VLSI Design course in my fifth semester drew my attention towards microminiaturization
technology. My reasons for such a focus were manifold; I had a brilliant professor for this course,
who placed great emphasis on the cutting edge research happening at the micro scale. Also, VLSI
is the crucial link between electronic circuits and computers, both of which are subjects close to
my heart. Consequently, I selected the VLSI/ULSI process technologies elective in the subsequent
semester. This course introduced me to the physics behind actual fabrication methodologies
employed in the semiconductor industry. It brought back memories of the awe and wonder I had
felt in my childhood. At this juncture, I resolved to explore the microscale in greater detail. In the
seventh semester, I filled all three elective slots with courses allowing me to follow up on my
resolution; BIO MEMS (Micro Electronic and Mechanical Systems), Miniature Microwave Circuits
and Material Science for Micro and Nanotechnology electives.

Portrayal of Women in Rap and Music Videos Essay
Misogyny and degradation of women is present in almost every genre of music, yet the one
genre that completely revolves around demeaning women is rap. Over the years rap and rap
music videos have continually become more sexual and degrading towards women. Rap has been
criticized numerous times for this reason, and that is because rap is one of the most popular
genres of music for the younger generations. It is more than a genre of music, it is a complete
industry filled with clothing and other merchandise. The reason this constant demeaning of women
exists is because rap as a genre that rewards the objectification of women. The excuses used to
justify the misogyny in rap are incomplete and lack accurate support. The most effective way...

A rapper couldn t use a line describing what she did in the movie, let alone film it in a video,
without getting heat for it (Keyes 256). While some may choose to side with this argument, rap
truly takes sexual portrayal of women in both music videos and songs to the next level. In rap
music videos, diamond covered rappers stand next to cars as scantily dressed women dance
around them. This is the premise of the majority of rap music videos and both young girls and
boys all over the world see the constant objectification of women in these videos. Naturally this
concerns the parents of these kids, and many critics believes that the images kids see on T.V
directly correlate to their development and thinking: exposure to rap music videos, which is
explicit about sex and violence and rarely shows the potential long term adverse effects of risky
behavior, may influence adolescents by modeling thee unhealthy practices (Thrash). Parents should
become more aware of these videos, and make sure that their young daughters are not watching
them. Yet, once they get to the age where they could be recruited for these videos it is important
that they are educated about this industry. This education should come from the home, but I think
it would also be important to provide workshops for girls about this issue. Since anorexia is such a
problem among girls many companies and organizations put together workshops to educate young
girls. One example of this is Dove s Self Esteem

Analysis Of The Film Roman Polanski
Roman Polanski noted for being an iconic figure in the film world is known for producing great
films such as China Town, and The Pianist. Of those two, it is argued that, The Pianist is his best
work. This is because this film has close ties to Polanski s roots. Born in Paris, France in 1933, his
father was a Polish Jew and his mother was Catholic. Polanski s family moved to Krakow, Polandin
1936. Unfortunately this move would negatively impact the Polanski family, forever. In 1936, the
Nazi occupation of Poland began, starting with the invasion Krakow it is known for being a
Jewish city. Having little money and virtually no time to escape, the Polanski family was forced to
stay in what would eventually become known as the Krakow Ghetto.
Polanski was merely a young child when he was forced to watch his mother being taken away
by the SS to a Nazi labor camp. As for his father, he was eventually taken as well. With Roman
Polanski being forced to fend for himself, he had to abide by Nazi rule, hiding from them the fact
that he was a Jew. Fortunately, for Polanski s genetics he looked more like a true German than he
did a Jew, which made it easier for him to survive in Krakow. In 1943, Roman Polanski escaped
the ghetto, and survived the remainder of the war using the name Romek Wilk with the help of
some Polish Roman Catholic Families. When the war ended in 1945 Roman was reunited with his
father. These events in Polanski s early childhood ultimately

The War On Drugs And Its Impact On The United States
The current policy in use by the United States concerning illegal drugs is both outdated and
unfair. This so called war on drugs is a deeply rooted campaign of prohibition and unfair
sentencing that is very controversial and has been debated for many years. The war on drugs is
designed so that it will never end. This current drugwas has very little impact on the overall supply
of prohibited drugs and its impact on demand seems non existent. United States taxpayers are
spending billions of dollars on this failure of policy. They are spending billions to incarcerate
drug users instead offering drug treatment which could help lower demand. Legalizing illicit
would lower abuse and deaths from use and could have a positive economic impact on the
United States. Certain industries are making massive sums of money by capitalizing on the drug
war. Currently, many prisons are beginning to be run by private corporations. If a company is
running a prison then they need prisoners to stay in business. Around 1 in every 107 Americans
is currently being housed in a prison. The United States has about 5 percent of the world s
population yet 25 percent of its prisoners(ACA, 2008). This is the easiest way to maintain a large
prison population is by maintaining the current drug war. The largest private prison company in the
United States is Corrections Corp. of America(ACA, 2008). In the last twenty years, CCA has

Feminised Cannabis Seeds: An Emerging Sensation Among Marijuana Enthusiasts!
Feminised cannabis seeds have slowly but sturdily climbed to the top as being the best cannabis
seed among cannabis growers and enthusiasts alike. Moreover, the popularity of feminised cannabis
seed is such, that to some extent the entire marijuana industry is predicated upon growing these
female plants. Furthermore, the name feminised comes from the fact that with the help of these
cannabis seeds only female marijuana plants can be grown.
These feminised seeds generally signify premium quality and in genetics of marijuana seeds.
Another reason for feminised cannabis seed s popularity can be attributed to the fact that, Unless
the grower is breeding marijuana strains, there s literally no use for male marijuana plants.
Moreover, the feminised seeds, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More control over breeding and cloning There is more freedom over cloning with feminised
plants, as the odds of getting a female plant are much higher compared to male seeds. Furthermore,
there s also an advantage of better control on breeding with feminised seeds.
3. Greater genetics Almost every strain, which is sold as feminised seeds, have their genetics
carefully controlled by the breeder for bringing out the defining characteristics of each strain.
Moreover, this helps the consumers to get more options to sink their teeth into. Add to that, these
plants will be more productive, powerful and aromatic compared to the male plants.
4. Less effort with the plants With feminised seeds, you are guaranteed that every plant grown
from the seed will produce a large amount of bud. Consecutively, you will get more yield from a
garden when they are operating at or below plant count restrictions. Add to that, you don t have to
worry about having to check 100 plants for Staminate Primordia, or in layman s terms the male
pollen forming structures which can save a lot of time and will require less

Taboo Language
Taboo language: FUCK
Is it no longer obscene?
All languages have words that are considered taboo words that are not supposed to be said or
used. Taboo words or swearwords, can be used in many different ways and they can have different
meanings depending on what context they appear in. Another aspect of taboo words is the
euphemisms that are used in order to avoid obscene speech. This paper will focus on the f word
which replaces the word fuck, and as the study will show it also have other meanings and usages.
First, it is a fact that from now on the use of curse words have become part of male and female s
everyday language. No longer is it uncommon to hear a person use an offensive word to express
their emotions. Not only is it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, taboo words or what can be called foul language are words prescribed by culture as being off
limits. And the use of this taboo or stigmatized language is usually associated with strong emotions.
Then, considered as a very emotional person, it is true that I am a frequent and long time user of
the f word, so I will attempt to explain this unique and fascinating word in a different light by
showing the etymology, written history, the amazingly flexible use this word has in grammar and
the way it is used or not used in media.
First of all, it seems that the actual root of the word is very unclear. It is impossible to say
precisely when it appeared because so little documentary evidence exists, probably due to the
fact that the word was so taboo throughout its early history that people were afraid to write it
down. The first recorded use of the word is before 1500 in the English/Latin satirical poem Flen
Flyys Non Sunt in celi quia fuccant uuiuys of hely meaning they are not in heaven because they
fuck the wives of Ely. Others claim the first known use of fuck is in a Scottish poem by William
Dunbar, Ane Brash of Wowing, in 1503. However, it took nearly another century for fuck to make
its lexicographic debut in John Florio s 1598 Italian English dictionary. Finally, it seems that fuck
remotely derived from the Latin future and Old German ficken/fucken meaning to strike or
penetrate , which had the

Observing Natural Selection
Observing Natural Selection With Different Colored Construction Bugs in a Flowered Meadow
Ashish Cavale Natural sources of variation include: mutations, gene flow, and genetic shuffling.
Mutations are random changes in DNA that result in beneficial, harmful, or no changes in an
organism. Gene flow can also be referred to as migration. It is the exchange of genes of individuals
from one population to another. Genetic shuffling occurs in meiosis when alleles switch to create
new combinations of genes. The steps of natural selection are overproduction, variation,
competition, and selection. Overproduction is important because it keeps the species from
becoming extinct and allows for more variation in offspring. Variation is what can either help the
organism have a higher chance of surviving or could lower the chance of surviving. ... Show more

The Importance Of Bicycle And Helmet Safety
People ride bikes for various reasons. Some people ride bikes for fitness purposes, some ride bikes
to get from place to place, and some ride bikes to clear their mind after having a long day.
Whether you ride for fun or for sport it is important to know the factors that go into bicycle and
helmet safety. A study in 2014 shows that 103.7 million people rode a bike that year and 34
percent of Americans age three or older rode a bike at least once in that year ( Study: 103.7 Million
Americans Ride Bikes ). The importance of bicyclesafety cannot be underestimated. According to
the 2008 Alabama Traffic Crash Facts, there were 182 bicycle crash injuries and four fatalities. In
2008, children 14 and under accounted for 27% of the bicycle crash injuries. Bicycle helmets are
85% 88% effective in preventing head and brain injuries; however, only 20% 25% of all bicyclists
wear bicycle helmets ( Bicycle Safety ). One of the first factors that go into bicycle and helmet
safety is learning how to ride a bike. Many people learn how to ride a bike when they are four or
five years old and some do not learn until they are older (Donaldson). Learning how to ride a bike
is the first and most important step because without knowing how to ride a bike you will not know
what type of bike you will need.
The first step when learning how to ride a bike is to make sure you are in a suitable location.

William Blake Argument
Did he who made the Lamb make thee? William Blake, The Tyger. This line in particular turns
William Blake s poem from simple to complex. This line shows that there is two very strong sides
to Blake s thinking. Why would God create such a terrifying creature, as the tiger, when it only
causes harm? In The Lamb, Blake describes Godas meek and mild. However, if God is meek and
mild, how could He possible create such a beast? As many read these two poems, they step back
and wonder, which side do they follow? Should we believe God to be all good, or is there a darker
side to this story? A common defense for the tiger would be, God works in mysterious ways, or, It s
all of God s plan. Nevertheless, that is not a direct answer. Why does He... Show more content on

One thing I like religion for is the morals. Many religions believe that you shouldn t put harmful
things into your body. They may also promote abstinence or not dating until a certain age. They
can also contradict their good morals with something such as being homosexual is bad. I do not
believe gay marriage is wrong, so I would not be able to fully commit to that religion if that was
one of the beliefs. What are the benefits to being a tiger? A tiger may tell you that they don t
have to deal with the religious fluff. By fluff I mean all the stuff a religion includes other than
simply having faith. An example being, going to church, or attending other church gatherings.
This is true, and it is something I quite enjoy while not being devoted to a church. Tigers often
have strong reasoning as to why they are a tiger. One common reason is they were once hurt. If
God exist, why would He allow for any hurt to happen? When they needed him most, where was

The Slavery Of The White Folks Essay
For others, age had little bearing on what was expected of them when it came to labor. Louisa

Whether or when a child went to work in the fields depended on the needs of owners or

The Causes Of Organized Crime In Italy In The 18th Century
Crime figures show that Italy is ranked the 4th highest total crimes amongst the EU states in 2002.

France(3.8 Million). This means globally they have the highest percentage of crimes, which is
24.5% of its population. (Italy Crime Stats) In the 18th century, organized crimein Italy and its
criminal organizations have infiltrated the social and economic life of many regions particularly in
Southern Italy. Sicilain Mafiais suposedly the most notorious. They say that this would later expand
into some foreign countries including the United States.
There are five mafia like organizations that are known to Italy and they are: Cosa Nostra of
Sicily, Ndrangheta Of Calabri, These two are considered to be the biggest cocaine mugglers in
Europe, and Camorra of Naples, are the oldest of five, having started development between 1500
and 1800. When the 20th century came about there were two new organizations that came about,
Stidda and Sacra Corona Unita of Apulia.(Organized)
With all of the above being said there should be some type of way that we can make sure that the
cocain is not being sumggled into these places. Man y crimes in the US are the same as Italy, the
way they are handled are very different. The FBI refers to the gangs listed above as Italian

Animal Testing And Its Effects On The Poor Treatment Of...
An increasing number of activists believe that animals have rights. However, this idea is
somewhat controversial because animal activists look down upon the poor treatment of animals.
They have a fear that animal testing is causing abuse and suffering to the helpless animals. Animal
testing is a fairly serious matter because of all of the malfunctions and harm that leads to animal
suffrage. The types of animals being used, such as rats, mice, rabbits, and chips are selected
specifically for the test that is being performed. The outcomes of the test, depends on which animal
is being tested and what it is being examined for. Common tests being used on animals include,
medicinefor humandiseases, cosmetic products and their reactions, and students in training utilizing
animals in educational laboratories. Many different types of species are used for testing and
experimentation, but the most common types are mice, rats, rabbits, and chimpanzees. Rodents
such as rats and mice are commonly used for testing products for many reasons, one being their
frequent reproduction. Mice and rats are mammals with nervous systems similar to our own
therefore, they are tested and given cancer, tumors, paralysis, and high levels of anxiety and
depression in their immune systems. Rabbits are often used in animal testingand experiments
because of their mild temperament and they are easy to handle. They are used in cruel chemical test

Chandler-Personal Narrative
Chandler wheels me out the front hospital doors and into the early Winter air. I take a deep lung
chilling breath as we stop to wait for my mom to pull up. Due to me being a stubborn ads and not
listening when anyone said to take it easy I popped my stitches constantly which resulted in a
longer stay in the hospital due to the depth of my wounds. It s not like I can t handle a little pain
here and there.
Chandler shivered as the icy wind picked up causing my curls to swirl around my face like
ribbons trapped in the gust. My eyes were slightly watering and my fingers were tightly tucked
under my armpits to keep them from freezing off. Don t get me wrong I love the cold seasons
but not so much when all on was wearing was a worn and faded black ACDC t shirt, some blue
jeans, converses, and one of Chandler s thin dark grey jackets. My mom finally pulls up looking
straight at the gloomy skies ahead. Her face lacked any emotion and her eyes were dull as she
patiently waited for me to inter the truck. Of course since I m only 5 3 and wielding 12 stitches in
my left side Chandler gently helped me into the truck.
As I got settled in the warm leather seat I weakly smiled at him. There was sadness and regret in
his eyes as he feebly smiled back at me. He still blames himself for what happened. I slowly leaned

Beverly is one of the most integrated areas in hype segregated Chicago. Like that of Hyde Park
or Rodgers Park, except Beverly obtains this diversity without the presence of a university. As
well, Beverly has retained its reputation as one of Chicago s most stable middle class residential
districts (Skerrett 2005). Black families during the 1950s and 60s started moving south as there
was the historical white flight , leaving these communities mainly black. Beverly, however, was the
expectation, as many black families did not come immediately here (Moore 2014).

food environment is great (in Beverly). There are numerous restaurants and grocery stores every
couple of miles. It takes minutes to get to a place that sells food . This contrast from his mother

says that there are a ton and around 10 (restaurants) within five miles of his house, but not as
much as fast food joints . Also in opposition to his mother, Nick was unaware of any farmer s
markets. This could be due to the fact that he does not do the family food shopping, but is
interesting to note. Demographically, Nick states that Beverly is approximately 70% Caucasian

Examples Of Materialism In A Perfect Day For Bananafish
John Steinbeck suggests that to a monster the norm must seem monstrous, since everyone is
normal to himself . Just as some people are born missing limbs or with another physical birth
defect, such as a birthmark, others could be born missing a trait vital to communicate with the
world around them or lose a trait throughout the course of their life. Although this missing trait is
not visible to others in society, does not mean it is any less serious. For instance, Seymour has a
severe case of PTSD after returning from war that causes his actions to seem abnormal to those
around him, even his family. Furthermore, Seymour finds that the actions of those around him,
the materialistically obsessed, are difficult for him to cope with. In J.D. Salinger s A Perfect Day
for Bananafish , Salinger depicts how life is for the monsters like Seymour in such a materialistic
society. Seymour, a seemingly normal man to the naked eye, is secluded from the world around
him. Searching for an escape from such an uninviting society, Seymour takes some big grasps for
help before committing to his eventual demise. Salinger begins his depiction of Seymour through
disdain before he brings the audience to his heart breaking conclusion. Salinger indicates that the
emotionally fragile cannot survive in a materialistic and superficial society because society is not
willing to accept those who are different. Salinger begins his short story by depicting a materialistic
society; in turn, he creates

The European Union s Economic And Monetary Union
Abe Hannigan
Professor Wickham
POLS 120 The European Union launched the economic and monetary union (EMU) of Europe on
January 1st, 1999. January 1st of 2002 marked the establishment of a single currency through the
introduction of euro bills and coins to 12 EU states. Formally called the eurozone , the movement to
a single currency has developed as 18 EU member states currently use the euro. Desiring further
political integration, the EMU was designed to maintain price stability through a central bank
known as the European Central Bank (ECB). Although economic certainty was the goal, a financial
crisis that erupted within the eurozone lead to questions about the credibility of the EMU. The
debate over political integration was furthered by the introduction of ideas for increased fiscal
federalism, similar to the current policies within the United States currency union. For a monetary
union to succeed, a fiscal union is necessary to solve the vulnerabilities of the EMU and supervise
national policy to prevent macroeconomic imbalances throughout Europe. However, the dispute
over political centralization impedes the establishment of such a fiscal system within the upcoming
decade. As it remains a proposal rather than a policy, interpretations of fiscal union differ;
however, as defined, its purpose would create a set of rules for national governments concerning
tax and budget policies essentially leading to policy coordination among EU member states.

Rebellion In Dostoevsky s Harry Potter
A central strength which fantasy offers in Harry Potter is its uses as a plot device, the way in
which this engages the reader, and the escape which the world of fantasy offers to Harry himself.
The reader follows Harry s perspective, thrust into a world of magic they know nothing about. This
fantasy world offers Harry what he has dreamed of his whole life, and is simultaneously a dream
come true for many child readers, with his instant acquisition of fame, food, friends, fortune,
mystery, excitement, an opportunity for rebellion, and an epic quest to complete. There is certainly
a fantastical element to Harry s complete reversal of fortune, for example, the way Harry is treated
by the Dursleys, with negligence and contempt, contrasts with... Show more content on

Another way the fantasy world engages the reader is through the quest which Harry and his
friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger embark on. Rebellion is a common theme in
children s books, and the plot of the narrative is moved forward by Harry and his friends
defiance of the rules, as they explore explicitly forbidden areas. By doing this, Harry and his
friends conquer the evil Lord Voldemort (for now) by stopping him from acquiring the philosopher
s stone, and in the end they are rewarded with house points for their defiance of the rules. Through
this fantasy quest and the way the characters defy rules and authority figures, Rowling encourages
children to take agency, and she is quoted as saying, in relation to the Harry Potter books, You
should question authority and you should not assume that the establishment or the press tells you
all of the truth (p. 751). Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone is strongly influenced by its post
modern context, and this theme of agency, of questioning authority figures and established
institutions is an essential theme throughout the

The Glorious Revolution Essay
The Glorious Revolution Some say the glorious revolution was one of the greatest landmarks in
the history of England. The glorious revolution is a very important event in history for multiple
reasons. It wasn t exactly a peaceful occasion but it was one in which no war of fight occurred.
This was a pleasant change for England at the time because they had been experiencing plenty of
fights over the throne and for once it was a relatively smooth transaction. After Charles the second
died his brother, James the second gained the throne in 1685. His main objective was to re
establish the Roman Catholic religion in England. The people of England were mostly of a
Protestant religion and they did not want to change their ways. Oddly enough... Show more content

He practiced absolute monarchy and the people of England strongly disliked him. As things
continued to heated up between parliament and Mary s father James II, she married the Dutch
Protestant prince, William of Orange. William desperately feared an alliance between James II
and the Catholic French King. William and Mary were prepared to lead armed forces into
England and take over the throne. When James II second wife gave birth to a son who would be
raised Catholic and be the heir to the throne, Parliament got worried. Seven members of
parliament signed a letter asking Mary and William to bring an army and drive out James II.
William arrived at Torbay, on November 5th 1688 ready to fight for the throne. He was a brave
man, for James II s army was double the size of William s army. Although it didn t matter because
James II s army was deserting to the other side, James II army had abandoned him. When William
of Orange was welcomed into London, James II fled to France in disguise. Parliament claimed that
by abandoning his country, the king had abdicated and the throne was now left vacant. On February
6th 1689 Mary and William became King and Queen of England. Perhaps the most revolutionary
part of the Glorious Revolution was that the throne had been taken over without a shot fired. But
what this truly meant was the ending of absolute monarchy in England. Now rulers had to abide by
the laws of their country as well as its people.

Secondary Prevention Programs Essay
The Secondary Prevention Programs provide treatment such as psychological counseling to youths
and adults that have violated the law. Unfortunately, there is an extreme disconnect in providing
adequate services to people that have committed crimes after they have met all rehabilitative
requirements under the law. The prisonsystem was initially designed to rehabilitate people that
have operated outside of the confines of law so that once their debt is paid they are to assimilate
back into society. If a person completes their prison sentence and returns to normal society with no
options of creating a productive life is it safe to say that we create criminals and punish them for

Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki Essay
Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
In August of 1945, both of the only two nuclear bombs ever used in warfare were dropped on the
Japanese cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. These two bombs shaped much of the world today.
In 1941, The United States began an atomic bomb program called the Manhattan Project. The main
objective of the Manhattan Project was to research and build an atomic bomb before Germany
could create and use one against the allied forces during World War II. German scientists had
started a similar research program four years before the United States began so the scientists of the
Manhattan Project felt a sense of urgency throughout their work (Wood Men ... Project ).

Neither of the men s actions were discovered until after the war had ended (Wood Men ... Project ).
Through the efforts of the Manhattan Project and the scientists within it, several nuclear bombs
were created. Two of which, Little Boy and Fat Man, ended up being dropped on Japan. Little
Boy, the only uranium bomb created was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 (Batchelder
99 105). Fat Man, the second nuclear bomb ever used in warfare, detonated above Nagasaki on
August 11, 1945 (Batchelder 95 105). The leaders of the United States, decided that dropping the
newly developed atomic bombs on Japan was the smartest action they could take at the time,
given the current situation that the United States and the world was in. Dropping the bombs on
Japan was mainly motivated by the belief that human lives could be saved. A massive invasion of
the Japanese mainland was the only other option if no bombs were going to be dropped. The fact
that the Japanese main army of approximately two million had never before been defeated on top
of the Japanese terrain which was much better suited for guerrilla warfare than the mechanical
ways of the U.S. put estimated American deaths alone well over the deaths at Hiroshima and
Nagasaki combined (Batchelder 114 118).

Janie s experience through three different marriages shapes her to see how she is viewed as a
woman in her position as a wife. Her first marriage is to Logan Killicks, he believes that women
are objects to men and later threatens her because of her disobedience. Logan shows little
emotion to Janie and is old which contrasts Janie s youthful beauty. Janie leaves Logan and is
later attracted to Joe Starks, her second marriage. Joe Starks is sharp looking, confident, and
views himself above others. His confidence leads him hungry for power and high self esteem for
himself. He views Janie as a trophy wife and more of a physical attraction for others. Janie s two
marriages leaves her believing that love became distorted by masculinist domination (Bealer
par.11). Her identity has been shaped and defined by the two men she called her husband. She
has been identified as an object to men rather than a wife. Janie finally finds her true love, Tea
Cake, this marriage is different from her previous marriages. Janie finds herself as more of an
equal to Tea Cake rather than inferior. Tea Cake wants Janie to work with him instead of for
him. Janie and Tea Cake s relationship is that of communication, which she did not share with
Logan or Joe. The very next morning Janie got ready to pick beans along with Tea Cake Tea is
just one example of how their relationship is more equal than her other marriages (Hurston 127).

Obama Reflection
For my seminar, my group and I did Obamacare and Birth Control and the theme we had chosen
was The corruption of power, which allows racism, sexism, and religious intolerance to flourish .
Firstly, Obamacare is called Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act , but it is usually called,
ACA . Before I go into further detail regarding ACA, there is a big misconception regarding
Obamacare. Obamacare is a health insurancereform, not healthcare reform. Also, Obamacare and
ACA are the same things.
Firstly, ACA was effective on March 23 2010, as a health insurance reform. The ACA required
every citizen in the United States to have health insurance by the year 2014. The reason for this
is that they can balance a number of healthy people to sick people, so they can keep the premiums
down for everybody. Also, the ACA requires all corporations with 50+ employees to pay for their
female employees birth control. For my seminar, I hope to accomplish a court trial seminar. The

it may sound, one of the main reasons I give my trust out to people, at least according to this
theory, is to feel close with them. In fact, it explains many aspects of my aforementioned
hierarchy, why my parents and best friends are at the top, why people I ve just met, or aren t as
close to are nearer to the bottom, it s, in part, because of how close I am to them. The funny part
is that it s a paradox, in a way, because in order for me to feel close I have to give them my trust,
but in order to give them my trust, I have to feel close. This is why giving my trust isn t an all or
nothing approach, it is in fact a process. One which I slowly give out in order to feel close
enough to give more of my trust. This is why its a hierarchy, not a simple list of people I trust and
people I don t. This is just one of the many reasons I believe the Relationship Dialectics theory
aptly explains why I put my trust in

Why do we observe and assess
Children are observed in order to acquire information regarding learning unlikely to be seen
through testing. Clark and Moss (2001 in ST9), for example, suggest that observation helps to build
a complete picture of a child. From a sociocultural perspective, teachers who subsequently adapt
practice, following analysis of observation, ensure opportunities are provided for children to link
new experiences to previous learning, therefore working within the child s zone of proximal
development . Throughout observation it is important that no preconceived judgements are held.
Pollard (2008 in ST6) suggests that observations should be descriptive, dispassionate, discerning
and diagnostic, thus meaning observations will be objective . School staff will often use

Adam! Rick called out as he waved his hand. Adam, why don t you stop on by I ve got something

going to be around to have dinner with me. She had called earlier saying that she had already had

Jesus, Rocky! Adam cried out and then he watched helplessly as his dog fell over to begin

down position next to Rocky, Rick swung the shovel he was now holding, striking Adam across
his face and sending a good portion of his teeth flying from his mouth. Adam spun around
violently from the blow landing directly atop of the charcoal Bar B Que that was still cooking
Rick s steak, sending it and himself toppling over to the ground, the grill s hot contents spilling
out. As Adam lay upon the scorching coals, Rick slammed the shovel into the back of his head
and neck repeatedly over and over until he was sure Adam was unconscious and paralyzed.
Then, as Rick walked away, he couldn t help but think to himself, umm... Adam smells better
cooking than my steak did. Darkness quickly consumed the evening, and the streets filled
themselves with scores of kids eager to fill their bags and stomachs with candy. It wasn t long
before a crowd had gathered around Rick s house in marvel of the display he had created. From
nearby, Rick listened in on the people as they ooh and ahhed over his sculpture. He had heard
them talk about how lifelike the zombies were, especially the one with the burnt off face. One

Rabbit Is Rich John Updike
Ever since the Middle Ages when royal family members fought for power of the throne, families
still grapple with the issue of hierarchy in society. It is what can tear apart families, making them
fight over who is right in certain situations. This is shown in the main plot of the story when
Harry and his mother in law, Bessie, argue over whether Harry s son, Nelson, can work with him
at Springer Motors. Each side believes it is right, and gives it s own opinion on if Nelson can be
an employee. In the novel Rabbit is Rich, author John Updike uses points of view to convey the

Why Is Parthena Important In Greek Art
The Statue of Athena Parthenos It was dedicated to the city s deity Athena. The temple was made to
give a statue made in Athena s honor a home. When Athena led the Greek forces during the Persian
wars, the people of Athens thought the world needed to see her success through a statue. Pheidias
began sculpting the statue in 447 BCE. The statue would remain the city s symbol for thousands of
years until it completely disappeared from the historical record during the Late Antiquity period.
Some sculpture details and descriptions of the statue allowed the piece to be accurately
reconstructed.

One of her names is Pallas which means maiden. The name Pallas Athene comes from one of her
childhood friends. Her friend was a nymph and during a battle Athena accidently killed her; Athena
began to feel distraught over the death and took the nymph s name. Another name for her is Pania
which came from her discovery of the flute.
She became the patron goddess of Athens after winning a contest against Poseidon by offering the
olive tree to the Athenians. Athena and the city Athens come from the same root: Athens (Athenae).
The similarity in their names represents the sisterhood of the godess.2 Similarly, Athena was
called Mykene in the city of Mycenae (also a plural after the respective sisterhood), and Thebe in
the city of Thebes (or Thebae, both plural forms). 2
Athena Parthenos in Greek translates to Athena the virgin. The statue is a massive 11.5 metres
tall and stood on a pedestal that measured to be 4.09 by 8.04 metres. Athena Parthenos was made
out of Gold and Ivory. In her right hand, she holds a 4 cubit tall statue called Nike. In her left
hand, she holds a circular shield that rests on the floor. She also has a spear and a coiled snake
that is between her shield and foot on the left side. On her head is a triple crested helmet which
has a sphinx and 2 griffins on either side. The base of the statue depicts the birth of Pandora being

Rite of Passage (1983) Sharon Olds
As the guests arrive at my son s partythey gather in the living room short men, men in first grade
with smooth jaws and chins.
Hands in pockets, they stand around jostling, jockeying for place, small fights breaking out and
calming. One says to another
How old are you? Six. I m seven. So?
They eye each other, seeing themselves tiny in the other s pupils. They clear their throats a lot, a
room of small bankers, they fold their arms and frown. I could beat you up, a seven says to a six,
the dark cake, round and heavy as a turret, behind them on the table. My son, freckles like specks of
nutmeg on his cheeks, chest narrow as the balsa keel of a model boat, long handscool and thin as
the day they guided him out of me, speaks up as a host for the sake of the group.
We could easily kill a two year old, he says in his clear voice. The other men agree, they clear their
throats like Generals, they relax and get down to playing war, celebrating my son s life.

In Sharon Olds Rite of Passage , talk about how the rite of passage, a ceremony of whose
definition are a significant transition or an important event or achievement, is seen as having
great meaning in lives of individuals; but portrayed by the lives of a mother and son in a twisted

The Importance Of Management And Management
While the amount of money is low on a percentage basis, it is a bigger financial sacrifice because
many providers operate individually and correlate each cash outflow as money out of their pocket
making them much more cautious than the larger treatment providers. The key to profitability is
not whether customers want the product, but in the consistency of the product. Practitioners need
to feel comfortable with managements ability to attract users. They will spend moneywith any
provider in the market, if they prove themselves worthy.

This also allows us six months of operation before two minor conferences in March and a full year
before two large national conferences. While we will be marketing our site on search engines and
through support groups, we will be generating paying memberships by contacting marketing
directors, management, and providers directly. We believe our strong personal network will also
generate interest through social proof for other providers we do not know or who may be
skeptical. Our membership and advertising pricing will be much in line with the current offerings.
This is a well received price point. We will offer a better product, more focused in driving more
leads to our members. This allows us to operate at the same price with better results.
Financial and Resource Analysis There are three groups of resources that will be needed for this
venture to succeed. The first is cash. An initial investment of $15,000 will be needed to help get
the venture of the ground and sustain it in its first quarter. Based on financial projections, there
should be no further infusion of cash needed. The second resource is data. We will need to
compile or survey treatment centers and professionals for basic data about their practice in order
to populate our site to make it useful on a base level. The third resource is technical and design
experience. This resource is what creates the product that will be used by both practitioners and
those searching for treatment.

The Importance Od Ethics And Social Responsibility
Ethics and social responsibility are very important irrespective of the community in which you
conduct business in. All stakeholder groups are benefited from the use of ethical behavior. For one,
stock holders benefit as the financial numbers used to evaluate and engage in business activities are
legitimate. These numbers will therefore provide a solid foundation in which to evaluate the merits
of a particular activity such as a merger, acquisition, dividend, stock buy back and so forth.
Consumers benefit as they are not mislead in regards to purchasing decisions. These builds trust as
the brand will become synonymous with ethicsfurther expanding the market share of the company.
This will then benefit the shareholders even further as more consumers purchase products from this
trusted company. The community benefits as the company contributes to the community through
the profits garnered from sales (Business, 2011). As such, all stakeholder groups benefit and
flourish. Social responsibility is no different in this regard. Companies, especially during tough
economic circumstances want to demonstrate their commitment to the communities in which they
operate. Usually, these commitments translate into high sales figures and better customer loyalty.
Social responsibility also engages associates on a personal level as they can volunteer and
contribute to causes pertinent to their beliefs. These increases employee satisfaction which
ultimately helps improve productivity.

Consider the innate and acquired needs.
Innate needs are biogenic or physiological needs which refer to needs such as air, food water,
shelter, clothing etc. While acquired needs are those we learn from our culture and surroundings,
also known as psychological or psychogenic needs i.e. affection, power, learning, prestige and self

Even though these are considered secondary needs, but they are as much as important as the
innate or necessary needs. Achievers seek to excel and value continuous recognition of how
well they are doing. Playing Wii games is an advanced way to make the user feel a sense of
achievement in a way that first it attracts the user to play, thrive to win and when one does the
user walks out with a feeling of success and achievement. Then there are the affiliation seekers
who look for company and relationships. Such a psychological need is essential for an
individual, both for those who are outgoing and like to mingle, and for those who are shy or
believe in close network. Nintendo games help people connect and value relationships. It s an
effective way not only for kids but also for adults, parents, workers etc. basically everyone. Who

Wii games help put life into a boring day or company. Basically it suits all sorts of people and

Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Lightships
Lightships are manned seamarks anchored at a specific point of a river, generally a shallow one.
Fixed into place by a mushroom shaped anchor, these small ships (rarely above 50 tons) would
initially use large lanterns affixed atop the main mast. Their main advantage is that they could be
placed in areas where it was impossible for lighthouses to act as efficient seamarks. Their main
disadvantage, especially the early ones, is that turbulent waters could slightly shift the anchor and
thus the ship s positioning (Talbot 1913, pp. 241 42). In the worst case scenario, the chains could
snap, leaving the ship in a dire position. However, introduced in the early 19th century were
numerous lighting inventions (Clarke 2016, pp. 14, 42) as well as mooring technologies using iron,
which could anchor a vessel 12 to 14 times the tonnage of the largest lightship (Clarke 2016, pp. 50
56), made them increasingly reliable over time. Ubiquitous to seafarers, their offshore position
meant that lightships were out of eyesight of the majority of the population, which explains why
they went largely unnoticed, even by most economists and historians including Coase, who studied
lighting services. Yet, lightships featured prominently in the frequently cited 1834 Report from the
Select Committee on Lighthouses. In fact, of the 55 lights in England, 13 were provided by
floating lights (House of Commons 1834, p. VI). As such, lightships were an important contributor
to lighting services. What

The Seven Functions Of Management
For any organization (in this case, health organization) to succeed, survive or thrive, there must be
effective and efficient management on the part of the leadership. Management is an essential
component of any organization because it is the component that directs and coordinates the current
activities of the organization and also makes provisions on the plans for the future.
Business dictionary.com (2015) defines management as organizing and coordinating the activities
of business with the sole aim of achieving its defined objectives. It is the act of bringing people
together in other to achieve the desired objectives and goals in an effective and efficient way.

2.1.2 Functions of Management
For management to be effective, it should be able to creatively solve problems, motivate
employees/workers and be able to achieve the organizational goals and objectives. It consists of
various components and activities which are useful to every manager without regard to their level
or status.
There are seven functions of management that I will like to discuss below; each functions are
inseparable because each one depend on the other. These management functions are:
Planning: It is a process which involves setting the aims, mission statement and objectives of the
organization and how they will be achieved. Nothing can be achieved without proper planning.
Planning outlines what tasks to do, when to do it and how to perform the tasks. Planning is based

Imagine existing in a world run by sadistic and insane street gangs who reek havoc on innocent

lot of social changes occurred during this period of time, such as: the roaring twenties, prohibition,

languages and wrote several novels. In 1954 he became a senior lecturer in English at Teachers
Training College, Khata Baru. There he found his true vocation. , said journalist Colin Covert in
one of his reviews of Anthony Burgess.
William Shakespeare primarily inspired Burgess s writing and the great composer, Ludwig van
Beethoven, was the main inspiration for his musical career. Anthony loved to travel to different
countries and study their language and culters, which he incorporated into his many works. He was
greatly influenced by James Joyce, a 20th century Irish novelist and poet, to write his first novel, A
Vision of Battlement. Traveling and teaching English around the world, particularly Malaya ad
Brunel, influenced the way he wrote. His experiences in World War II, and his day to day life
observing the street gangs around the world, influenced what he wrote about. Collin Burrow, of
the London Review of Books, once described Burgess as a, 1960 s sideboard writer. His range was
improbable.
The genres of Burgess s works were historical fiction, philosophical, satire, epics, spy fiction,
horror, travel literature, biography, and autobiography. Burgess s vision has been described as bleak

The Golden Age Of Sports In The 1920 s
The 1920 s was known as the Golden Age of Sports , with many remarkable athletes emerging
from the shadows and establishing records while imprinting their names in the history of sports
for eternity. From the beginning of the decade extraordinary athletes had emerged from
approximately every sport with football being a huge impact on that era. Football had been played
for years, with the first ever game being recorded on November 6, 1869 between Rutgers
University and Princeton University, with the game taking place at Rutgers in Brunswick, New
Jersey (Scott, 3). American footballsurfaced in the 1880 s being a spinoff of rugby created by yale
student, Walter Camp (Hallas, 1). This is where the sport really took shape and it was officially the
beginning of the major increase in college footballteams, which in later years lead to the National
Football League. Football was considered a minor sport during this decade where other sports
like baseball took over the nation, becoming a national pastime . Football was played, but was
more commonly played on the college level. Many colleges had greatly increased enrollments
following WWI and there was a parallel boom in new stadium building on a number of campuses
during the decade of the 1920 s; with some popular football schools being Penn State, Yale, and
Harvard.(Scott, 3) No sport received as much of a boost from the media as college football, radio

Lately, there have been issues of brand management on the internet. The new digital tools require

although the bond is presently being evolved beyond the existing top down model. (Okonkowo,

growth. In spite of the growth, it s not clear that what drives the consumers to shop online and
whether they would be interested in shopping if attractive online stores were introduced. Therefore,
what factors affect consumers to shop online will be examined here. A framework is necessary to
develop the complex system and determine these factors, influences and buying behaviors of the

  • 2. Community Engagement In The Community Engaging ourselves as well as engaging in the community with issues of our society makes us open to different things. Community engagement is the process of working with individuals and groups to achieve specific goals. It involves community members with making decisions and taking action. This process of creating a relationship with communitymembers in society that can maintain a mission with an ultimate goal of making something better. It s an ongoing process with collaborative work, cooperative dialogue, collective decisions and shared ownership. There are many different activities that community engagementis involved with, which are community service, internships, voter s registration, service learning and etc. The primary focus of community engagement is the practice of moving communities towards change. The transformation from high school to college was very big for me. Only because I was a loner and I didn t really get involved with groups nor did I have a social life outside of playing basketball. When I came to college I made up in my mind that I was going to change. Once I was introduced to the four pathways that Methodist offered I decide to choose community engagement. Community engagement fits me best because it gives me a chance to interact with people and also voices my opinion. I wanted to work on enhancing this aspect because I m a very shy person with a lot to say. The program would also give me some good information to learn from and gain knowledge. ... • 3. Analysis Of The Opening And Operations Of The New Library On the other hand, student, Brad Kramer wrote that he was utterly overjoyed at the opening and operations of the new library (Fetter, 1984, 8). Randy Fussell Everett, responded to comments like this in order for undergraduate students to receive fair treatment and for the Davis Library to continue as a resource available to all students (Everett, 1984, 8). Everett argued on behalf of UNC s undergraduate population by pointing out that Richards was once an undergraduate herself, as well as the fact that all students on campus have research that needed to be done. Everett was not the only student upset by Richard s article, a group of students also wrote an article stating, Dear Mary Margaret, Who the hell made you God? and pointed out that blaming undergraduates for all of the library s problems was ridiculous (Prince, Keith, Turner, McCracken, Dorm, 1984, 8). Concerns pertaining to the Davis library were not without reason (Trotter, 1984, 1). The number of people using the library was counted for in the Wilson Library during its last week of operation, totaling 20,681 students, tallied as the number of students that left the library. In Davis Library s first week, a 41,966 students were counted leaving the library, more than doubling the number of students. This problem was further pressed in the weeks approaching exams. University Librarian, James F. Govan, said that the staff had received a drastic increase in the number of noise complaints given to them since the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on Application for Graduate Program in Electronics One of the biggest influences in my childhood was my uncle. He was an amateur ham radio operator and a dedicated electronics hobbyist. This was in the mid 1990s India, where specialized electronic systems were prohibitively expensive, leading to growth of homebrew culture. I used to sit in his room every evening and observe with wonder, as he operated his homebrew radio setup, building strong connections with people across vast distances. His room which also served as his workshop, was stuffed with a bewildering array of components and spare parts. Noticing me lurking around, he would call me and try to explain the basics, I would nod enthusiastically as he mumbled away, but being in primary school I could never make head nor tail of it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Until that point, I had chosen computer science courses as it was the closest I could get to learning electronics. Over the duration of my undergrad life, as I spent more and more time embroiled in my major subjects, this chain of reasoning proved to be perfectly true. The VLSI Design course in my fifth semester drew my attention towards microminiaturization technology. My reasons for such a focus were manifold; I had a brilliant professor for this course, who placed great emphasis on the cutting edge research happening at the micro scale. Also, VLSI is the crucial link between electronic circuits and computers, both of which are subjects close to my heart. Consequently, I selected the VLSI/ULSI process technologies elective in the subsequent semester. This course introduced me to the physics behind actual fabrication methodologies employed in the semiconductor industry. It brought back memories of the awe and wonder I had felt in my childhood. At this juncture, I resolved to explore the microscale in greater detail. In the seventh semester, I filled all three elective slots with courses allowing me to follow up on my resolution; BIO MEMS (Micro Electronic and Mechanical Systems), Miniature Microwave Circuits and Material Science for Micro and Nanotechnology electives. #This para has to be changed for Washington univ (No vhsm reco.)# It was my good fortune, to have found an excellent mentor in Dr. VHS Moorthy, who taught me both MEMS and ... • 8. Portrayal of Women in Rap and Music Videos Essay Misogyny and degradation of women is present in almost every genre of music, yet the one genre that completely revolves around demeaning women is rap. Over the years rap and rap music videos have continually become more sexual and degrading towards women. Rap has been criticized numerous times for this reason, and that is because rap is one of the most popular genres of music for the younger generations. It is more than a genre of music, it is a complete industry filled with clothing and other merchandise. The reason this constant demeaning of women exists is because rap as a genre that rewards the objectification of women. A rapper couldn t use a line describing what she did in the movie, let alone film it in a video, without getting heat for it (Keyes 256). While some may choose to side with this argument, rap truly takes sexual portrayal of women in both music videos and songs to the next level. In rap music videos, diamond covered rappers stand next to cars as scantily dressed women dance around them. This is the premise of the majority of rap music videos and both young girls and boys all over the world see the constant objectification of women in these videos. Naturally this concerns the parents of these kids, and many critics believes that the images kids see on T.V directly correlate to their development and thinking: exposure to rap music videos, which is explicit about sex and violence and rarely shows the potential long term adverse effects of risky behavior, may influence adolescents by modeling thee unhealthy practices (Thrash). Parents should become more aware of these videos, and make sure that their young daughters are not watching them. Yet, once they get to the age where they could be recruited for these videos it is important that they are educated about this industry. This education should come from the home, but I think it would also be important to provide workshops for girls about this issue. Since anorexia is such a problem among girls many companies and organizations put together workshops to educate young girls. One example of this is Dove s Self Esteem ... Of those two, it is argued that, The Pianist is his best work. This is because this film has close ties to Polanski s roots. Born in Paris, France in 1933, his father was a Polish Jew and his mother was Catholic. Polanski s family moved to Krakow, Polandin 1936. Unfortunately this move would negatively impact the Polanski family, forever. In 1936, the Nazi occupation of Poland began, starting with the invasion Krakow it is known for being a Jewish city. Having little money and virtually no time to escape, the Polanski family was forced to stay in what would eventually become known as the Krakow Ghetto. Polanski was merely a young child when he was forced to watch his mother being taken away by the SS to a Nazi labor camp. As for his father, he was eventually taken as well. With Roman Polanski being forced to fend for himself, he had to abide by Nazi rule, hiding from them the fact that he was a Jew. Fortunately, for Polanski s genetics he looked more like a true German than he did a Jew, which made it easier for him to survive in Krakow. In 1943, Roman Polanski escaped the ghetto, and survived the remainder of the war using the name Romek Wilk with the help of some Polish Roman Catholic Families. This so called war on drugs is a deeply rooted campaign of prohibition and unfair sentencing that is very controversial and has been debated for many years. The war on drugs is designed so that it will never end. This current drugwas has very little impact on the overall supply of prohibited drugs and its impact on demand seems non existent. United States taxpayers are spending billions of dollars on this failure of policy. They are spending billions to incarcerate drug users instead offering drug treatment which could help lower demand. Legalizing illicit would lower abuse and deaths from use and could have a positive economic impact on the United States. Certain industries are making massive sums of money by capitalizing on the drug war. Currently, many prisons are beginning to be run by private corporations. Just as some people are born missing limbs or with another physical birth defect, such as a birthmark, others could be born missing a trait vital to communicate with the world around them or lose a trait throughout the course of their life. Although this missing trait is not visible to others in society, does not mean it is any less serious. For instance, Seymour has a severe case of PTSD after returning from war that causes his actions to seem abnormal to those around him, even his family. January 1st of 2002 marked the establishment of a single currency through the introduction of euro bills and coins to 12 EU states. Formally called the eurozone , the movement to a single currency has developed as 18 EU member states currently use the euro. Desiring further political integration, the EMU was designed to maintain price stability through a central bank known as the European Central Bank (ECB). Although economic certainty was the goal, a financial crisis that erupted within the eurozone lead to questions about the credibility of the EMU. The debate over political integration was furthered by the introduction of ideas for increased fiscal federalism, similar to the current policies within the United States currency union. For a monetary union to succeed, a fiscal union is necessary to solve the vulnerabilities of the EMU and supervise national policy to prevent macroeconomic imbalances throughout Europe. However, the dispute over political centralization impedes the establishment of such a fiscal system within the upcoming decade. • 29. Rebellion In Dostoevsky s Harry Potter A central strength which fantasy offers in Harry Potter is its uses as a plot device, the way in which this engages the reader, and the escape which the world of fantasy offers to Harry himself. The reader follows Harry s perspective, thrust into a world of magic they know nothing about. This fantasy world offers Harry what he has dreamed of his whole life, and is simultaneously a dream come true for many child readers, with his instant acquisition of fame, food, friends, fortune, mystery, excitement, an opportunity for rebellion, and an epic quest to complete. There is certainly a fantastical element to Harry s complete reversal of fortune, for example, the way Harry is treated by the Dursleys, with negligence and contempt, contrasts with... By doing this, Harry and his friends conquer the evil Lord Voldemort (for now) by stopping him from acquiring the philosopher s stone, and in the end they are rewarded with house points for their defiance of the rules. Through this fantasy quest and the way the characters defy rules and authority figures, Rowling encourages children to take agency, and she is quoted as saying, in relation to the Harry Potter books, You should question authority and you should not assume that the establishment or the press tells you all of the truth (p. 751). The glorious revolution is a very important event in history for multiple reasons. It wasn t exactly a peaceful occasion but it was one in which no war of fight occurred. This was a pleasant change for England at the time because they had been experiencing plenty of fights over the throne and for once it was a relatively smooth transaction. After Charles the second died his brother, James the second gained the throne in 1685. His main objective was to re establish the Roman Catholic religion in England. He practiced absolute monarchy and the people of England strongly disliked him. As things continued to heated up between parliament and Mary s father James II, she married the Dutch Protestant prince, William of Orange. William desperately feared an alliance between James II and the Catholic French King. William and Mary were prepared to lead armed forces into England and take over the throne. When James II second wife gave birth to a son who would be raised Catholic and be the heir to the throne, Parliament got worried. Seven members of parliament signed a letter asking Mary and William to bring an army and drive out James II. William arrived at Torbay, on November 5th 1688 ready to fight for the throne. He was a brave man, for James II s army was double the size of William s army. Although it didn t matter because James II s army was deserting to the other side, James II army had abandoned him. When William of Orange was welcomed into London, James II fled to France in disguise. Parliament claimed that by abandoning his country, the king had abdicated and the throne was now left vacant. On February 6th 1689 Mary and William became King and Queen of England. Perhaps the most revolutionary part of the Glorious Revolution was that the throne had been taken over without a shot fired. But what this truly meant was the ending of absolute monarchy in England. Now rulers had to abide by the laws of their country as well as its people. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The ACA required every citizen in the United States to have health insurance by the year 2014. • 48. The Importance Od Ethics And Social Responsibility Ethics and social responsibility are very important irrespective of the community in which you conduct business in. All stakeholder groups are benefited from the use of ethical behavior. For one, stock holders benefit as the financial numbers used to evaluate and engage in business activities are legitimate. These numbers will therefore provide a solid foundation in which to evaluate the merits of a particular activity such as a merger, acquisition, dividend, stock buy back and so forth. Consumers benefit as they are not mislead in regards to purchasing decisions. These builds trust as the brand will become synonymous with ethicsfurther expanding the market share of the company. This will then benefit the shareholders even further as more consumers purchase products from this trusted company. The community benefits as the company contributes to the community through the profits garnered from sales (Business, 2011). As such, all stakeholder groups benefit and flourish. Social responsibility is no different in this regard. Companies, especially during tough economic circumstances want to demonstrate their commitment to the communities in which they operate. Usually, these commitments translate into high sales figures and better customer loyalty. Social responsibility also engages associates on a personal level as they can volunteer and contribute to causes pertinent to their beliefs. • 51. Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Lightships Lightships are manned seamarks anchored at a specific point of a river, generally a shallow one. Fixed into place by a mushroom shaped anchor, these small ships (rarely above 50 tons) would initially use large lanterns affixed atop the main mast. Their main advantage is that they could be placed in areas where it was impossible for lighthouses to act as efficient seamarks. Their main disadvantage, especially the early ones, is that turbulent waters could slightly shift the anchor and thus the ship s positioning (Talbot 1913, pp. 241 42). In the worst case scenario, the chains could snap, leaving the ship in a dire position. However, introduced in the early 19th century were numerous lighting inventions (Clarke 2016, pp. 14, 42) as well as mooring technologies using iron, which could anchor a vessel 12 to 14 times the tonnage of the largest lightship (Clarke 2016, pp. 50 56), made them increasingly reliable over time. Ubiquitous to seafarers, their offshore position meant that lightships were out of eyesight of the majority of the population, which explains why they went largely unnoticed, even by most economists and historians including Coase, who studied lighting services. Yet, lightships featured prominently in the frequently cited 1834 Report from the Select Committee on Lighthouses. In fact, of the 55 lights in England, 13 were provided by floating lights (House of Commons 1834, p. VI). As such, lightships were an important contributor to lighting services. What ...
