One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest Essay example
Throughout the film, One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest , many changes differentiate the movie
from the book. Not only can these differences be seen in the characters of the novel, but also in
the series of events that make this story so interesting. In this essay, the significance of these
differences will be revealed as well as the reasons for the changes. The first difference between the
filmand the novelis the narration. In the book, Chief Bromden is the narrator who reveals
McMurphy s story in the mental hospital. Chief is the main charactersince he is the one who s life
we learn about the most throughout the book. We learn that he is a paranoid schizophrenic, and a
half breed Indian. We also learn about his family and his past.... Show more content on

The fishing episode is another great difference between the novel and the movie. In the book,
the fishing trip was a planned event that the Nurse kept trying to ruin. Despite her attempts,
McMurphy managed to convince Dr. Spivey to join the group when a prostitute named Candy
came with only one car. In the movie, McMurphy hijacks a school bus and encourages the other
men of his ward to participate in this act of rebellion against Nurse Ratched. Also, the former
fisherman, George, was on the fishing trip in the book, but was not at all present in the movie.
The fishing trip in the movie was so different from the book because they wanted to show that
McMurphy was not conforming to the Nurse s rules. Unlike in the movie, Cheswick was not
present for the fishing trip since he was dead. We see from this that McMurphy would have
normally asked before taking the men on the trip since he was trying to get on her better side. In
the film, McMurphy remains the noncomformist person he was, up until his lobotomy. However,
in the book, Chief observes McMurphy s short attempt to conform to Nurse Ratched s rules. He
notices the growing distrust of the other patients towards McMurphy and his increasing sadness as
he senses his own doom. The ending is probably the biggest difference between the novel and the
film. The book contains an episode

The Debate Over Death Penalty
Parker Coss

Debates over Death Penalty in the United States The issue of death penalty today is a popular topic
for numerous public and scholarly discussions. The death penalty has a long and distinguished
history in the United States, as it has been around in some form either official or otherwise since the
beginning of American society. America originally adopted the British justice system, with
hundreds of crimes being punishable by death. Slowly but surely, states began to eliminate the
number of things that could lead to the death penalty. Likewise, new methods were introduced, with
the electric chair coming about around the turn of the 1900s. The modern death penalty system
came after the Supreme Court ruled the death penalty unconstitutional in Furman v. Georgia.
Today, the death penalty is only available for murder, only available for people over 18, and not
available for people who are mentally retarded. While the differences in punishment between death
penalty states and non death penalty states is severe, the difference in outcomes is not as severe.
While one would expect death penalty states to have lower murder rates because of the fear of the
death penalty, the opposite ends up being true. In death penalty states, the murder rate has been
significantly higher in every year since 1990. States without the death penalty also feature lower
general crime rates. States with no death penalty also tend to spend less money on

The Benefits And Uses Of Social Media In Education
Social media is the most ordinally used medium to connect with the world because of its many
advantages and benefits. Lots of students are already involved in social networks. Social media
have changed the ways of learning and providing pieces of information on education. It has been
used in education nowadays more than ever and showing beneficial results out of that. Uses of
social media are increasing continuously in education and both students and educators are
becoming dependent on it. The reason behind is its simple access, uses, and good availability.
Among many of the advantages of social media in education, applying it for communication
purposes, sharing class materials, files etc. for classroom projects as well as uses of QR codes are
some leading ones.
Defining social media is a tricky task to do because of its constant change (Tess, 2013). Social
media involves a vast range of pc and mobile platforms which continue to develop constantly,
launched and re launched, abandoned also ignored daily in countries all over the world that
consist of various forms of communication (Ober Wildman,2013). Although Facebook is dominant
face of social media (Tess, 2013) and twitter is popular microblogging website (Tess, 2013),
however in recent times, various social networking sites, blogs, wikis, multimedia platforms,
virtual game worlds, and virtual social applications are added as social media (Barnes Lescault,
2011; McEwan, 2012).

Social Norms And The Affect On Abuse
Social Norms and the Affect on Abuse Sticks and stones may break bones, but words make
psychological scars that never heal (Mr. Turner). A play on the common idiom, sticks and
stones may break my bones but words may never hurt me. Which was once used by parents
universally to justify name calling and harsh words, now sheds light on the darker, often unseen
wounds of words. These wounds and scars, both psychological and physical fall under abuse
and can be ensured, worsened, or inflicted further by harmful social norms. Social norms are
pushed on children from birth and throughout their life as an unwritten set of rules that all
people must live by in their society. This string of abuse has left a countless number of victims
in its wake and continues to do so till this day. Abuse is regrettably a more common part of our
society and is described by Margaret O. Hyde in her work, Know About Abuse, as an, harmful,
injurious, or offensive treatment (Hyde 4). Abuse is usually only limited to the physical signs,
such as; the red ribbons left from the lash of a belt or the blooming bruises from the drop of a
fist. Rarely do those take the time to see the trauma and chaos caused by hateful, derogatory, or
misused words. Forms of abuse, such as verbal abuse, are so common they have managed to
integrate into social norms that include catcalling, slurs, shaming, and other such forms. This affect
of chronic name calling can be seen in Stacy A. Teicher s, Boys vs. Girls:

Stalin s Death After World War II
After World War II, Berlin had been a constant problem area in East West relations. In 1948 49
Joseph Stalin had tried to blockade the Western sectors into submission by closing off all the land
routes into the city, which were almost a hundred miles inside Soviet occupied territory. The West
surprised him with a successful airlift that kept West Berlin supplied with sufficient essentials to
survive. However, Stalin s death prevented a wall or something similar being constructed in 1953.
In 1958, his successor, the unpredictable Nikita Khrushchev, had started threatening West Berlin s
status once more. The Soviet leader compared the Allied occupied sectors to the West s testicles.

Along with the separate and much longer Inner German border (IGB), which demarcated the border
between East and West Germany, it came to symbolize a physical marker of the Iron Curtain that
separated Western Europe and the Eastern Blocduring the Cold War.
Most Germans experienced the building of the Wall as a devastating blow. It was not just a brutal
act in itself but also final proof, if proof were needed, that the reunification many still hoped for
must remain a distant, even an impossible, dream. There was genuine outrage in West Germany
(and to some extent in the East, though this was rapidly suppressed by the Communist secret
police, the Stasi, who carried out thousands of arrests). However, given the renewed dangers of
conflict during the previous few years, the building of the Wall, although it unleashed a brief East
West showdown, was seen from a global perspective not necessarily the catastrophe that it first
appeared.
At the end of July 1961, the newly elected American President John F. Kennedy, had already
ordered a military build up to cope with possible Soviet and Warsaw Pact designs on Berlin (and
by implication West Germany). However, his actual response to the building of the Wall was
downright muted. Washington made it clear that only if the Soviets and their East German

Improving The Quality Of Healthcare Services
Introduction
In the United States the healthcare system is influenced by the cost and the quality of services
delivered to its citizens. The cost in healthcare refers to the services rendered, production or actual
money spent on services provided. Quality in healthcare is defined as measurable standard for
services provided. In healthcare, both the cost and quality are dependent on each other and the
initiatives can be regulated by a public or private agency.
Healthcare Agencies

The standards focus on important patient, individual, or resident care and organization functions
that are essential to providing safe, high quality care (Joint Commission,2017, Standars:para1). The
Joint Commission focuses on quality and efficiency to provide safe patient care. Ideally, the quality
measures are able to maintain the high standards without raising the costs of healthcare services.
Healthcare Initiatives
The Department of Health and Human Services has six quality strategy goals:
safer care by reducing harm caused in the delivery of care
strengthening the person and family engagement as partners in their care
promoting effective communication and coordination
promoting effective treatment of chronic disease
working with communities to promote best practices of living healthy living
making health care affordable (Department of Health and Human Services, 2016, Quality Card).
Through its Healthcare cost and utilization project the Department of Health and Human Services
is able to manage costs while simultaneously providing quality care. The project is a database and
related software tools that enables research on o broad range of health care issues, including cost
and quality of health services, medical practice patterns, access to healthcare programs and

Putting the Principles into practice
1.4 The principles which guide the work of all early years practitioners are grouped into four
themes:
A Unique Child every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable,
confident and self assured. Positive Relationships children learn to be strong and independent from
a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person. Enabling Environments
the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children s development and learning.
Learning and Development children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and
all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and inter connected.

Essay about Deserting Washington’s Army
Deserting Washington s Army
With the Revolutionary War set to begin, the recruitment of soldiers was fully on. Reasons to
enlist in the Continental Army were quite candid for numerous individuals. Motives ranged from
looking for a fresh start to wanting to honor friendship/family, or even for the sole purpose of
securing regular pay. Many looked to reap the benefits that were promised to them for enlisting in
the army. As the Revolutionary War waged on for years to come, soldiers of the Continental Army
continued to battle, not only the British, but the many hardships that came their way, as well. By
1780 the number of soldiers abandoning their posts/camps had greatly increased due the number of
hardships they encountered. Even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A recruiting hand bill by George Washingtonhimself even stated that those who enlisted in the
Continental Army would receive a bounty of Twelve dollars...and sixty dollars a year in GOLD,
as well as handsome clothing and a large ration of provisions. With every advertisement similar to
this one, in which enlistment is claimed to be accompanied with incentives (usually money or
land), empty promises were soon to follow. This was a strong driving force that led men to desert
their posts because most soldiers were not getting paid what they had been promised. James
Kirby Martin even alludes, in his book Ordinary Courage, to the fact that 100 acre was promised
to veterans, but that land never materialized for most of them. He addresses this in context
stating, The truth was, none cared for them; the country was served, and faithfully served, and
that was that was deemed necessary. It was, soldiers, look to yourselves; we want no more of
you. I hope I shall one day find land enough to lay my bones in. If I chance to die in a civilized
country, none will deny me that. A dead body never begs a grave; thanks for that. Especially with
monetary inflation being high during the time of the war, many soldiers deserted the army in
order to provide for their families back home. The buying power of the new Continental dollar
falls 90% and a number of food riots breakout due to the extreme prices. The lack of financial
stability for

How Did Abraham Lincoln Changed America
There has been many great men and women in America that has been an influence in the United
States of America who strived to make the United States a better country. One of the many people
who has been and continues to be one of the great American influential people is the sixteenth
president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln strove to do his duties to serve America
during his presidency. He served our country during the time of conflict and kept our country from
falling apart during the American Civil War. Also, Lincoln gave his life for what he believed in.
Other people might believe that there are better American war heroes or technological advances in
the United States; I personally believe Abraham Lincoln was one of the greatest because he
changed America for the better through one of the toughest times of war for America, and he put
his strong mind into ending slavery. Abraham Lincoln entered his reign of Presidency during the
time of many chaotic conflicts. By the time Lincoln was inaugurated as 16th U.S. president in

This organization s pure goal is to fight the effects of poverty with new lawsuits and education

victims of hate groups such as extremist organizations such as Ku Klux Klan also known as KKK.
One of the cases that resulted in legacy of Southern Poverty Law Center is that a case of YMCA

their race violating the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In the end, Judge Johnson ordered the YMCA to

Pros And Cons Of Human Genetic Engineering
Why are humans stuck how they are? Why do some have lethal flaws? Why do theses flaws exist?
The correct answer is they don t have to: Human genetic engineering can solve some of theses
lethal issues now and can solve more in the future. It can help the next generation experience what
everyone strives to achieve. Humangenetic engineeringresearch should continue because it can
save people s lives, improve human s lives and improve the lives of the next generation of
children. Human genetic engineering can save people s lives now and could save more in the
future. According to a New Scientist article (Le Page, 2015), Layla was three months when she was
diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, a kind of cancer in the bone marrow. She
underwent other treatments like chemotherapy, but those failed so she underwent genetherapy by
using the TALEN protein to edit her genes to produce a cancer fighting T cell called UCRAT19;
She survived and thrived (Le Page 2015). Saving someone s life through human genetic
engineering doesn t even have to be as complicated as altering genes. According to TIME Health
(Park, 2014), Mya Burkhart was six months old when her parents started to look for a cure to her
rare mutation in the gene for citrate. This mutation prevented certain parts of her from getting
enough energy, causing breathing and development problems, and after having no luck with
any other diagnosis, a genetic scan figured out what the issue was and gave her citrate
supplements (Alice Park, 2014). Both Layla s and Mya s lives were saved because of human
genetic engineering. Layla was cured of cancer because of human genetic engineering, which is
one toughest diseases for humans to cure right now, while Layla s cancer was cured, but Mya s
condition was only treated so maybe if human genetic engineering could continue a cure could be
developed to improve her life. Human genetic engineering is not only useful for people in
terminal situations it s also useful for the average person. Evan Dashevsky describes this in an
article he wrote about his experience with human genetic engineering (Dashevsky, 2017). He had a
severe back problem that prevented him from running and had to walk with a cane, while only in his

The aim of this dissertation is to observe whether female or male students have a similar or

campus sexual assault.

the supports from those closest to the victims may play a positive role in the recovery process;

EXPLAINING SEXUAL ASSAULT AND RAPE
As reported by, feminist criminologists, their perspective of rape and sexual assault differ from
liberal and radical feminists. Liberal feminists viewpoint in regards of rape as a gender neutral
assault on a persons autonomy and mainly focusing on the harm that rape can do to an individual.
In contrast, radical feminists describe rape as a subject to be recognised and understood as a major
pillar of patriarchy; a social system in which men claim the positions of dominance and control of
the central norms and values that are linked with masculinity (Johnson, 2005: p.

the KДЃlДЃmas but is also an incentive of free inquiry. The teaching is exemption from the
authoritative dogmas, intolerance and personal interest. He further insisted that if one were to
discern the discourse correctly, wisdom is processed throughout. The sutta, he said, is very obvious
in rejecting the bad and adopting the good way... the place of critical examination and analysis in
the development of right vision. Buddha s insight into the matter of judgment is beyond our normal
understanding. As the four solaces show that a noble life is not about faith in rebirth and
retribution. Instead, it is about happiness of the mind by conquering our own avarice, enmity, and
ignorance. Basically, the teaching is for everyone.
Soma Thera concluded his essay by citing a short conversation between Moncure D. Conway and
Ponnambalam Ramanathan, who follow different faiths but come together and listen to the
discourse of the KДЃlДЃmas and profess this good doctrine is essential to humanity development.
However, scholar and monastic Bhikkhu Bodhi has a different perspective on the KДЃlДЃma Sutta.

Why Married American Men Commit Extramarital Affairs
Hypothesis
Because men are more likely to get involved in sexual relationships outside their marriage due to
many different factors, I ve formulated multiple hypotheses below:
A.Hypothesis 1 Marital dissatisfaction will be one primary reason for men to cheat on their wives.
B.Hypothesis 2 Being married to the same women for many years, can be another potential reason
why men commit extramarital affairs.
C.Hypothesis 3 Working long distance will be a slightly reason why married men are unfaithful.
My hypotheses are connected to the literature that I described above. This is because past
researchers in their articles tried to show some possible reasons that influenced men to be unfaithful
towards their wives. For this reason, due to past research I was able to create my own hypothesis
about why married American men commit extramarital affairs. This means American men get
involved in extramarital relationships as a result of many different factors that will influence them
to cheat on their wives.
Research Method
My research question is why married American men decide to engage in sexual acts outside of their
marriage? I will proceed collecting my primary data by conducting face to face interviews. My
research will be qualitative given that my main goal is to have a deep understanding of why
married American men have extramarital affairs. The data collection method that I will use is face
to face interviews. I think interviews are the best data collection method for my

Updating Computer Security Posture of Advanced Research
Acunetix Purchase Proposal
BACKGROUND
Advanced Research is a growing company in the medical research field and has made a great
impact due to its recent success with research and development regarding pharmaceuticals. Due to
its large successes and quick growth, Advanced Research has also developed into an attractive
target for cyber criminals and attackers. This has been previously demonstrated by the defacement
of Advanced Research s public facing website as well as being a victim of Denial of Service
attacks throughout a nine month period in 2011.
The threat of Denial of Service attacks, as well as any attacks on Advanced Research s public
facing infrastructure, is a major security issue for multiple reasons. Firstly, Kenig (2013) reported
The average cost of one minute of downtime due to a DDoS attack is $22,000. With an average
downtime of 54 minutes per DDoS attack, this amounts to a heavy toll. That amounts to $1,188,000
for an attack that lasts just under an hour. Can Advanced Research afford even that small amount of
downtime? How much revenue is Advanced Research losing from sales lost during that time? How
many customers are losing faith in the company because of these attacks? How much employee
productivity is lost? For Advanced Research to continue to grow

Game Theory Essay
Game Theory was said to have been introduced by Emile Borel in 1921. Borel was a French
mathematician who published papers on the theory of games. From this standpoint and according
to the article Game Theory , Borel could have been named the first mathematician to envision an
organized system for playing games however; evidence has shown that Borel did not develop his
ideas any further. This is the reason why most historians have given credit to John Von Neumann
.
Von Neumann was born in 1903 in Budapest, Hungary. His first mathematical paper was published,
along with the help of his tutor, when he was 18. Von Neumann went on to study mathematics in
college and eventually earned his PhD in mathematics with a minor in both physics and ... Show

In Game Theory Models and Methods , the prisoner s dilemma is said to be the most widely
known example of game theory. This dilemma was invented by Albert Tucker of Princeton
University in 1950. In this dilemma, one is to imagine two people arrested under suspicion of
having committed a crime together. The police do not have sufficient evidence to convict the
criminals. They are placed in two separate rooms and the police visit each suspect, offering a
deal. The deal is basically, whoever gives up evidence on the other person will go free. If neither
suspect takes the offer, they are working against the police and both will receive a small
punishment because of lack of evidence. Both suspects appeared to have won because neither
took the offer, but were given a small punishment. However, if one suspect takes the offer and
betrays the other, the one who gave up the evidence will gain more because he will be set free
and the one who remained quiet will get the full punishment. However, if both suspects betray
each other, they will both receive punishment. From this example, we learn that each suspect was
given a choice between only two options, but cannot make a good decision without knowing what
the other one will do (Game Theory Models and Methods). This strategy is still used today not
only be police officers and detectives, but it is also used in some of the criminal television shows,

Comparing The Novel Out, Out And Disabled
Compare the ways in which the writers create sympathy in Out, Out and Disabled
In the poems, Robert Frost and Wilfred Owen both create sympathy for the characters through
different ways. In Disabled , Owen paints a vivid, moving picture of a soldier who has been
injured in World War One and lost his legs and an arm. Wilfred Owen himself took part in the
war, consequently witnessing first hand many young men whose lives were similarly destroyed.
In the poem, Out, Out , Robert Frost shows the fragility of life in two ways. Firstly alluding to
Shakespeare s metaphor in Macbeth s soliloquy Out, out, brief candle , which informs the reader
that life is very short and fragile. Moreover, Frost looks at the themes of sudden death and child
labour to help to make this a very sad and shocking poem. The poem reflects the tragedy of the
accidental death of a child doing a man s job. Frost s description of setting, imagery, and tone create
a moving poem with a horrifying ending that leaves the reader feeling despaired at the bleakness of
the situation and quite shocked.
Even in the structure of the poem, Wilfred Owen shows us a compassionate portrait of loss by
switching between and comparing the soldier s experiences before and after war time, and the
related memories and emotions, for instance:
And girls glanced lovelier as the air grew dim
In old times, before he threw away his knees .
This example shows the constant comparison and reminder of the soldier s loss

The Need for Immigration Reform
There are not many people who know that there is war going on within America. A war, that is
capable of impacting the future of America. Millions of Dreamers are fighting to be recognized as
American citizens. In recent months and years, the debate on immigration reform has been heated
and often uninformed. Every president mentions in his speech to take action on immigrationreform.
But unfortunately he ends up taking action against immigrants by deporting them. Is the country
founded by immigrants has closed doors for the immigrants? People are fighting for the
immigration reform. In order for the bright future of America we need to fix the present problems.
A land of opportunity has taken many hits but the immigration reform made us think about our
legal system. It is essential to understand that immigration reform is not a cup of tea. The question
many are asking is that how can we accept millions of people into our labor force? We are already
struggling from unemployment rate, which is peaking high. In this paper I will be primarily
focusing on the role of immigrants on our economy, businesses and society, and how it impacts our
society.
I think the immigration reform is a question of the anticipated costs and benefits of the reform.
Assessing the impact of various elements of reform on the economic growth, budgeting and the
wages are the critical issues which needs to be discussed whether enactment of reform is in the best
interests of the country.

Abraham Lincoln is the greatest president ever because he did great things such as ending slavery,

was a war
between the Southern states and the Confederate states. Abraham Lincolnwas not very prepared for

achievement accomplished by the great Abraham Lincoln was the Thirteenth Amendment. The
Thirteenth Amendment was passed in 1864 and officially ended slavery. The Emancipation

The passing of the Thirteenth Amendment abolished slavery in the states that rebelled the

My Utopian Society Essay
The Utopian land is divided into two main terrains: farmland and cities. The farmlands, of course,
are where most of the country s resources are produced. The services of the economy, smithing,
carpentry, clothmaking, etc., are mainly produced in the cities. Iron is the only resource which
must be imported abundantly. All of the resources, except iron, that the nation requires, it produces
on its own.
The Utopians live a very simple lifestyle. They work, and in their spare time play games, read, and
socialize. Other forms of entertainment, such as gambling and hunting are looked down upon.
They only eat what is necessary, and their houses are built simply and furnished only with what is
necessary. Thus, their consumption is very low.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Theses are exported for the iron that they need, and gold and silver after that.
However, gold and silver play a very different role in Utopia. There is no monetary system; all of
the people are provided with what they need. Instead of working to get money with which they
can choose what they want, their work is repaid with everything they need. What each person
needs is decided by them alone, and there is no risk of anyone taking more than they need. Why
would anyone take more than they need when they will always be provided for? There is no reason
to store up for the future, and there is nothing to do with extra, unnecessary products.
The gold and silver then is used for purchasing mercenaries for use in war and for paying citizens
of other nations to turn against their country in war. Since gold is of no use to the people of
Utopia, it is stored as chamber pots, and cheap jewelry worn only by the bondman, the lowest of
Utopian people. When a time comes that requires the use of gold, the Utopians gladly give it up,
for to them it is just a toilet. The Utopian government also uses its gold to lend to other nations in
need. They are very liberal with their loans, and do not always ask for them to be repaid. Their
reasoning is that they have no use for the gold, for they have a surplus of that as well, and the
other nation that is in debt has very good use for it.

Socioeconomic Class
Socioeconomic Class and Behavior It took me years to understand that humans generally divide
themselves according to their socioeconomic status. I realized that the clothes I wear, the car I
drive, and the way I live is all a way to prove to my peers that my family is in the upper middle
class. In the last few years of my life, I realized that some of the people who I call my friends are
only my friends because we are in the same socioeconomic class. They didn t choose to be my
friend solely on personality and common interests. Somehow, my friend group was always
viewed as the popular group in school, but what does that mean? I ve always been perplexed at
the fact that socioeconomic class nearly always plays a role in who the popular kids are no
matter what school, town, or grade you are in. This social dynamic caused me to research how
socioeconomic class contributes to the creation of friend groups in adolescents and what social class
tends to hold popularity and power in these school years. I began my research with an article
called Elementary School Children s Reasoning About Social Class: A Mixed Methods Study, by
Rashmita Mistry et al. This study was published August of 2015 in Child Development Journal. I
started with this article because I was hopeful it could prove how children understand
socioeconomic class from a young age. The study explored 117 children s opinions and reasoning

Natural Resources throughout the World
All that glitters is not gold.
Right is still right, even if nobody is doing it. And wrong is still wrong, even everybody is doing
it. Texas Ranger saying.
No doubt, Pakistan is among those few countries which are rich in natural resources. But merely a
plenty of natural resources does not assure the promised prosperity for a country. There is always
something concealed behind the apparent opportunity, but what matters here is that we do not
bother to unveil those glittering chances and opportunities that can be efficiently selected and
chose for future prospects as well. Pakistan is one of the developing countries, blessed with a
plenty of natural resources but sometimes blessings can also become a curse not by the supreme
power of Allah but by the human err and wrong decisions. Sometimes, natural resource becomes a
curse for developing countries and can be termed as paradox of plenty. Such countries tend to have
less economic growth and worse development outcomes because natural resource curse causes
conflicts, bad governance and stagnant economic growth. Instead being a blessing, such natural
resources have an adverse impact on an economy of a country.

The Causes Of Lysosomal Diseases
More dysregulated metabolites were identified in the liver (n=177) than that in the brain (n=122).
Notably, there are more amino acid, amino acid derivatives and dipeptides identified in livers
(mostly upregulated). These results are expected because the liver is the primary site of
metabolism. In terms of pathways enriched, significant involvement of neurotransmission and
chemical synaptic transmission were observed in the brain. Meanwhile, there are several pathways
only enriched in livers, including gamma glutamyl cycle, leukotriene biosynthesis, Phase II
conjugation and glutathione synthesis, which are mainly associated with oxidative stress and
inflammation. The energy imbalance in SD leads to increased respiratory chain activity in... Show

The oxidative stress can cause cell damage, resulting in inflammation, which has also been found
to be a major contributor to disease progression of GM2 gangliosidosis [17]. In this study, we
identified elevation in glutathione pathways, which plays a pivotal role in responses to oxidative
stress. Another evidence of inflammation is reduced levels of arachidonic acid, an omega 6 fatty
acid, in brain samples of SD mice. Oxidation of arachidonic acid can generate leukotrienes, a
family of eicosanoid inflammatory mediators produced in leukocytes, and thus promote
inflammation. The increased energy requirements can also activate autophagy and protein
catabolism, which have been found in MPS I and MPS VII mice [13]. In this study, we found
increased levels of amino acids, amino acid derivatives and dipeptides, indicating increased protein
catabolism. Increased requirements of energy and raw materials can also activate lipid metabolism
and carbohydrate metabolism, manifested by decreased adiposity, a common observation in many
lysosomal diseases [18 20]. In addition, the enlarged lysosome and distended cells due to abnormal
accumulation requires increased membrane synthesis, which can also affect lipid metabolism. Our
previous proteomic analysis [21] also identified abnormality in the cytoskeleton system, which can
be partially attributed to altered cellular architecture due to storage accumulation. Collectively, we
show here that the energy imbalance caused by the lack of

Reflection Paper On Lacrosse
I wake up, grab my lacrosse stick, ball, and grab the net and started to shoot. I play of my state
lacrosse team we have our first tournament this weekend and I don t wanna be the reason that we
lose. I was originally a D pole for my city team but my coach for state thought otherwise. I could
run the field in 20 seconds flat. At least that is what my coach said. I started out the day with a
couple fakes and spin moves nothing hard just the kind of stuff you need to know when you
want to start. My sister decides to come and play me in a 1v1 (me and my sister are competitive) I
accept so we go to the plains across the street I bring the net along with us. I just school her badly
10:0 she challenged me at my own game1st mistake.
We head back every day I have lacrosse practice at 3:30 until 5:30 that is the best practice ever
because all we do is get in the middle and get on top both 1v1 games against your own teammate. I
used to play D pole like I said but now it is easier to use a short pole. I go through my day of 3
hours in the morning of practice at the plains across the street and hanging with friends doing
more lacrosse. Then it becomes 3 and I have to leave for lacrosse so I grab my gear bag and longer
leaving my long pole there.
We reach the area of where I practice I m usually the first one there but everyone is ready and
geared up and warming up I was late for the first time in my life my dad is so mad. Get out there

can I strap up my helmet chest and shoulder pads and gloves and ran faster than I ever have
before out there. Today is the day the first day of the tournament all these teams look like the
would be tough but who knows except for the team itself. The thing about state tournaments is
that the teams that you played and beat could have gotten a whole lot better so with a lacrosse
state tournament you have to stay of your game and get better no matter if you re a starter and
always will be a starter. As we head to our group of tents I don t see anyone even if they are the

Virginity And Its Effect On Society
The general topic of the film How to Lose Your Virginity was based on what is virginity. Even
though virginity is defined as the state of never having had sexual intercourse. A virgin is someone
who has never had sex. But sex is defined differently by different people. A lot of people think that
women and men lose their virginitythe first time they have penis in vaginaintercourse. But this
definition is really limited because it leaves lots of people and other types of sexout of the picture.
The being of the film opened up to questions and sracazime. Also keeping an open mind when
watching the film because everyone has their own definition of virginity. How people define
virginity is based on one s up bring and religious view. Therese Schechter uses this film as a
groundbreaker for people around the world to get a better understanding. To how other people
defined virginity and what it means to them. Therese discussed some facts on how, when and
why people lose their virginity is it love, peer pressure from friend because everyone is having

The Influence Of Haussmann On The City Of Paris
Over the past few centuries, after mankind had almost fully embraced the thought of living life
within the confines of a city, the people in charge of the maintenance and upkeep of the sprawling
metropolises that now dominate the world scene have used methods that are equally alike and
different in order to accomplish their goals. Often considered one of the first great cityplanners of
pre modern times, Haussmann was given the task to recreate the sprawling mass that Paris had
become into a landmark of both beauty and power. His personal style, although having its own fair

These increased numbers led to very overcrowded living conditions, an inability to maintain even
the slightest control over sanitation conditions, and widespread death from diseases such as cholera
and tuberculosis. In these conditions, Emperor Louis Napoleon Bonaparte found Haussmann
through an interview process and quickly had him appointed to levels of high status that practically
made him the major of Paris. Haussmann was given a daunting and seemly insurmountable goal as
he took over as the city planner of Paris: to reinvent the way that urban environments were built
and maintained in a way that showed the power of the government while keeping to a budget. He
dedicated much of his professional life to this task, and when he had taken his last breath what had
been done would forever alter the way that the foundations of cities would be built. Haussmann s
main methods that had positive outcomes included: creating large new boulevards, expanding the
amount of green space that existed inside of the city, creating new sewers and fresh water systems,
and linking the suburbs to the city. His critics, on the other hand, argue that his tactics showed little
to no concern for both the historic buildings that lined the city streets and entire sections of working
class neighborhoods. They said that Haussmann had no remorse in bulldozing these types of

Lewis And Clark Dbq Analysis
The American travelers Lewis, and Clark embarked on a journey, discovering new lands and
space bought from the French. Along the way they encountered numerous tribes, and numerous
Natives who have aided them in many ways, but new evidence states that the legendary
cartographers were in fact very impolite people. Many people debate about it, but were Lewis
and Clark respectful to the Natives they met on their journey? They weren t in fact respectful at
all. They left a medal on a dead Native to sprout fear between the people, and rid the Natives of
their land to poor soil, as well as used their own belief and religion against them. According to
Lewis s diary entry (Doc B), While the men were preparing the horses, I put four shields and two
bows and quivers of arrows which had been left [by the Indians] on the fire... I also retook the
flag but left the medal about the neck of the dead man that they might be informed who were.
Lewis left the medal on the deceased male to inform the others who they were. This means that
they want to make the people of the tribe aware of who was in charge , and what would happen if
anyone stepped out of line. This is disrespectful because that was a person they cared about and to
mock, and use him inhumanely is truly preposterous!... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Advantages Of Isolationism
Is isolationism an ethical method of dealing with endangered cultures?
Daniela Wolf
Isolationism is a policy of remaining apart from the affairs or interests of other groups, especially
political affairs of other countries and in this case affairs concerning endangered cultures
(dictionary.com).
Isolationism can be thought of as being an ethical way of dealing with endangered cultures, it may
however have a few disadvantages. The Gullah Geechee descendants of West Africans were
relocated to America to be slaves. They currently live in southern coastal regions of the eastern
United States (Voice of America, Simkins 2011). The Gullah people are the only African Americans
that know of their ancestors and where they originate from; in this ... Show more content on

This threatens their existence and can drastically affect them. In this case study we can tell that the
Inughuit were not endangered before they were discovered, which supports the statement that
isolationism is an ethical method of dealing with endangered cultures. The Inughuit initially
believed that they were the only humans in the whole world, which just shows how isolationism
can almost fully contain a religion and culture with no forms of dilution (Dr. Stephen Pax Leonard,
University of Cambridge). Their language which is known as Inuktun has never been written
down, which can definitely be a downfall because it would have to be taught verbally and the
death rate of the elders tends to be rather high resulting in less and less people learning and
speaking their language. Dr Stephen Pax Leonard believes that if their language dies, their heritage
and identity will die with it. On one side the Inughuit could be allowed access to education that is
offered in the urban world, in the long run it could possibly be beneficial for the Inughuit because
they would be able to write down their language, and document it for future generation to learn
about their culture and traditions. According to Dr. Leonard studies show that Inughuit

The Impact Of Globalization On The Urban Environment And...
In 1990s America, obtaining freedom from governmental control became a social preoccupation.
Starting with liberalism s demand for increased individual freedom, what began as a small
movement eventually transformed into a culture wide fight for social justice and economic growth
to create a free market where, ideally, no government would be needed. Activists term this modern
movement neo liberalism, or global market liberalism (capitalism), which calls for free trade
policies. While adopting such a system for American cities has been advocated by many people for
its economic benefits, it also necessarily creates new relations between the citygovernment and the
residents who live there, which in turn affects the urban environment and social relations within the
city. The question is a persistent one in our place and time: to globalize, or not to globalize?
Globalization requires highly specialized services, telecommunications, infrastructure, and
industrial services. Economic globalization has mostly been represented in terms of the duality
between national and global, where the global gains power and advantages at the expense of the
national. For example, Saskia Sassen, author of Whose City Is It?, states many disadvantages of
global cities for women, immigrants, and people of color, whose political sense of self and
identities are not necessarily embedded in the nation (206).
In developing cities there are large concentrations of diversity; immigration is a major

The Sorrows of Young Werther Essay
In The Sorrows of Young Werther by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe, Lotte has been seen as
responsible for Werther s fate. There are many ways through which Lotte s behavior around
Werther fuels his romantic obsession with her. Lotte continuously shows inappropriate affections
towards Werther throughout the novel. Examples which show her affection for him are dancing
the Waltz, the gift of the pink ribbon, and the bird beak kissing incident. Lotte leads Werther to
believe she loves him by touching his hands, gazing at him, calling him dear, she entices him as
well by requesting that he come to visit with her daily. Readers can also see Lotte s improper
affections towards him when she does not respond to Albert s request that she stop seeing... Show

The closeness of this dance leads Werther to think himself to be on intimate terms with this
woman whom he has just met. Shortly after the partners dance, the Klopstock moment between
the two, and Lotte s hand resting on his gives Werther a profound sense of admiration for Lotte.
Then, Werther and Lotte begin to see each other frequently, causing Werther s romantic
obsession to grow. Werther, who is smitten by Lotte s every move, is led to believe that his
feelings are being reciprocated. He looks forward to seeing her, and Lotte edges him on by
requesting that he come to see her again, You will come tomorrow, won t you? (56). It is Lotte
and not Werther who suggests the daily visits, thus sending the message that she wants to visit
so frequently with him. An engaged woman who spends so much of her time with another man
at the time would be likely to arouse the suspicions of others, as well as the imagination of
Werther. Her desire to see him makes it impossible for him to leave, even with the presence of
Albert, for he continues to feel the need to be close to her, I keep a careful watch for times when
he is busy elsewhere; and whoosh! there I am, and I m always happy to find her on her own (57).
Later on, Werther receives the pink ribbon as a birthday gift from Lotte. The pink ribbon

Genocide In The American Genocide
Genocide; the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular nation
or ethnic group (Oxford, 2017). The origin of the term genocide and codification in international
law have roots in the mass murder of Armenians in 1915 to 1916, lawyer Raphael Lemkin coined
the term and was repeatedly stated in newspaper stories about the crimes against the Armenians. In
1915 the Turkish government set a plan to massacre Armenians living in the Ottoman Empire.
About 2 million Armenians were in the Ottoman Empire at the time of the plan of the mass murders
and the deportations, in the end 1.5 million of Turkey s Armenians were dead or forcefully removed
from the country (History Staff, 2010). Although many call this event a genocide the Turkish
government does not acknowledge the scope of this event, making it illegal in the country to talk
about what happened to the Armenians during that time. The Armenian Genocidealso at times is
called the first genocide of the twentieth century. (UHMMS,) As told by Robert Melson, the
perpetrators of the Armenian Genocide were motivated by nationalist ideology. (Melson, 1996) The
victims within the Armenian Genocide were territorial ethnic groups... Show more content on

How Did The Intolerable Acts Cause The American Revolution
The Intolerable Acts, without a doubt, caused the most unrest in the colonies, therefore provoking
the start of the American Revolution. In 1774, Parliament passed the Coercive Acts in reaction to
the Boston Tea Party, where the Sons of Liberty dressed as Native Americans and smashed 340
chests of tea and dumped it all into the Boston Harbor. The Coercive Acts were called the
Intolerable Acts by the colonists because they felt that they could not tolerate these new laws.
Firstly, the British suspended all Massachusetts town meetings and the Massachusetts legislature,
basically putting the colony under military rule. This angered the colonists because they didn t even
have the right to present their ideas to others anymore. Because of their reactions, the Intolerable

The colonists were furious at this because they could no longer receive imports from Britain and
other countries they may have been trading with at this time. The Intolerable Acts not only took the
colonists rights, but their imports, too. Plus, the Boston Harbor was one of the busiest and
wealthiest ports in the colonies, so hundreds lost their jobs upon its closure. This helped spark the
American Revolution because colonists begin an all out rebellion against the inconsiderate British
king and his laws that were imposed upon them with neither their consent nor opinion. Lastly, a
British official who committed a crime in the American colonies could hold their trial in Britain in
front of a more lenient judge and jury, as stated in the Coercive Acts. The colonists found this
unjust because if the unwelcomed interlopers could hold more merciful trials, then why couldn t
they? They were the actual residents of the colonies, so they should have as many rights as those
who disrupt their daily life, shouldn t they? If a colonist committed a crime, then they d have to
hold trial in the colonies, so shouldn t the British, who had been sent to rule over and live in the

A Critique For Clt.
Name: Esraa Galal Salama Haiba M.A 2016 program
A Critique for CLT
There has been a big shift in teaching languages away from the old traditional ways to the notion
of CLT, but like any modern notion, it should not be followed blindly by all institutions in all
parts of the world. To make the decision of whether or not it should be used in a particular class,
so many variables need to be examined including; the aims for learning and teaching a language, the
actual teaching process, the cultural acceptance and appropriateness of CLT, and the readiness for
teachers to use it.
What is CLT? Where did it come from?
Communicative language teaching (CLT) is based on the idea that language is but a mean for
communication, and so its primary goal is to achieve, what is called, communicative competence.
For CLT, a good language learner is one who can communicate well in a real life situation that
which involves a lot of strategies to keep a meaningful conversation and to avoid any
communication gap. Unlike the audio lingual method, which originally originated from
behaviorism, CLT did not have any psychological background. Thus, all that CLT material
developers and syllabus designers had was the broad theory that students learn best by doing. It was
all based on the general assumption that the learners communicative competence develops
automatically through their active participation

Key Performance Indicators ( Kpis )
As you know, in our current business environment, most companies have finite resources and
budget but they share a common objective which is to do more with less and stay nimble .
Extracting key insight from business data is crucial for management to formulate strategy to drive
improvement in our organization to counter competition as the industry evolves. In addition, having
the information at the right time to departments and individuals will motivate the employees to act
on this information in relation to corporate or departmental goals. Due to the recent trend in
visualization and advanced technology in dashboard, corporations are increasingly captivated with
dashboards due to their vast ability to allow the users visualize data in an interactive and engaging
manner. The ability to use key analytics and technology to manage performance through the use of
key performance indicators (KPIs) provides great benefits to companies and corporations.
Companies may use KPIs to set targets, identify trends, determine potential issues and
opportunities, and plan future activities to help increase performance. With that in mind, I
recommend to start an initiative to develop a set of relevant KPIs to better measure our contract
performance. As contract performance is a clear indicator of the success of our business, we need
a mean to measure the effectiveness of this component in order for us to take action at the right
time if we fall short on our target. I want to propose

Bruce Dawe s Poetry
Several poems by Bruce Dawe surround the subject of loneliness and oppression, a matter that
many people face in today s society and also a matter that relates to his interests; his fascination
with the underdog character and how he provides a voice for certain individuals. The Raped Girl
s Father , The Family Man and The Sadness of Madonnas are three poems by Bruce Dawe that
relate to the themes, portraying realism in how loneliness and oppression affect people in the
world. An example of a poem related to the subject of loneliness and oppression is The Raped
Girl s Father . The poem is about a girl who had been raped and, as a consequence, is constantly
abused by her father. From the title, the poem is centred on the father, who... Show more content on

For example, the rifle s eye is blank and rumours flower over his absence... symbolise how the

and how he kept it to himself; for example, from the table of humdrum cares and dream and
walk...over the edge of dark and quietly lie... which clearly explains that the man turned away
from life. The imagery and symbolism in The Sadness of Madonnas is similar; its purpose is to
create an image of oppression through the mother and child. For example, the xylophone rib
cage and the wasted music of leg bones and the thousands lying silent in the dirt, the dehydrated
children s skin as tough as leather present a powerful picture of the Ethiopian people and how the
famine is making them suffer and slowly leading them to their deaths. The language Dawe uses in
The Raped Girl s Father , such as metaphors, alliteration and repetition create a dark and powerful
atmosphere to the poem. The words used are chosen to reflect the father s heartless rage and his
daughter s shock during her darkest hours. An example of repetition and alliteration is eaten by the

experiencing in her dark bedroom and her vulnerability. Metaphors in the poem

RSMT Task 1 Role Development for Advanced Nursing Practice SMT2 Dr. Laura Bevis
December 5, 2012 RSMT Task 1 A1. The nursing profession has evolved significantly over the
decades. One of the factors that have greatly influenced these changes has been the involvement of
nurses in the development of theories and data base needed to support the advancement of our
profession. In the last half of the twentieth century, nurse researchers (1950s) and nurse theorists
(1960s and 1970s) greatly contributed to the expanding body of nursing knowledge with their

(Warner, 2003) The Master s prepared nurse s goal as an advocate should be to fight to enhance

by being part of organization that advocate for patients right as well as for better working

The Republic Of The Dominican Republic Essay
The dominican Republic is known as the breadbasket of the Caribbean because it grows, farms,
and catches almost everything that s served for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Dominican
Republic was the first colony founded by Christopher Columbus. It used to go by La Hispaniola in
colonial times. Also the flag of the Dominican Republicis the only national flag in the world to
feature the image of a bible. My country is the Dominican Republic. I learned about the culture,
food, religion, imports and exports, geography, sports, and family. All of it was very eye opening.
Geography
The geography is pretty much the same as most countries. The natural resources are nickel, gold,
and silver. They have mountains with valleys, and rugged highlands. The highest elevation is three
thousand one hundred seventy five meters. It is located in the heart of the Caribbean, the
Dominican Republic is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Dominican
Republic is the second highest island in the Caribbean, with a surface area of forty eight thousand
one hundred ninety eight square kilometers, which is slightly more than twice the size of New
Hampshire, USA. The biggest city is Santiago de los Caballeros, with five hundred one thousand

Followership is as Important as Leadership
A leader alone cannot accomplish a goal or vision by oneself. There is a built in assumption in
our society that everybody should strive to be a leader. That s where the fame and fortune are
with the leaders. You can get a PhD in organizational leadership, but you can t even get a bachelor
s in followership. (Mercer) Why should an organization focus on followership as much as leadership
?
The Merriam Webster dictionary defines followership as the capacity or willingness to follow a
leader . Over the last several years, there s been a huge interest in leadership. However, former HP
Executive Vice President, Vyomesh Joshi, shared that the key to being a great leader is not about

However, these types of followers are the ones to jump ship thinking that there is no room to
climb higher. The disengaged followers doesn t see the value in his or her work showing low
levels of commitment. The disgruntled demonstrates low levels of job satisfaction and is
considered to be less productive. To some degree, they feel a sense of anger usually resulting from
having some negative interaction with the organization. Adair believes that most employees
function as with disciples or doers. They are the most satisfied and productive employees while they
operate under the quadrant that suits them the best. However, if they get stressed out they could get
pushed into the disengaged and disgruntled quadrants. To help change back, followers will have to
work with their leader and change their attitudes.
The difference between followers and leaders is that followers need leaders to help them follow
what leaders themselves are following. This relationship takes the form of a shared response
ability to a shared calling. Both find each other in a true fellowship to create the world responsibly.
James Maroosis
A person who exemplifies followership is Jimmy Collins, famous author of Creative Followership:
In the Shadow of Greatness . He believes that leadership is important, but does not overlook the
rule of followership. He believes that followership engaging in worthwhile activities while
following the lead of others.

Why We Absorb Bath Bombs
Bubbling Bath Bombs
Hypothesis
What makes bath bombs fizz and bubble? Will a bath bomb containing lime juice rather than citric
acid dissolve faster? I think there is a chemical reaction within the bath bomb that makes it fizz, but
I am not sure what things are reacting. I also think that if I substitute lime juice for citric acid in one
half of the bath bomb, the half with citric acid will dissolve quicker. This is because it is pure
citric acid, unlike lime juice which has other things as well as citric acid in it.
Research
Bath bombs are composed of several ingredients that are molded into a shape. They begin to fizz
and dissolve once they touch water. Bath bombs come in a large variety of different colors, scents,
shapes, and sizes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
water, 2 tsp. coconut oil, about 15 drops essential oil, and a few drops of food coloring (depending
on the color I wanted), Вј cup Epsom salt, 5 bowls, and molds to put the mixture into. To create
the different halves, I took half of each ingredient into separate bowls and added either Вј cup lime
juice or Вј cup citric acid. First, I combined the baking soda, corn starch, and Epsom salt into a
bowl. If I was using the citric acid, I combined that into the same bowl. Next, I combined my
water, coconut oil, essential oil (optional), and food coloring (optional) into a different bowl. If I
was using the lime juice instead of the citric acid, I would combine it into this bowl. It is very
important you keep your wet and dry ingredients separate. Then, I slowly put a few drops of the
wet mixture into the dry mixture and stirred. You want to put a few drops, then stir; add a few
more, and stir again. You must do this step slowly to prevent any reactions happening between the
citric acid and the baking soda. During this step, I discovered that the side with lime juice was
much moister than the other side with citric acid. This made it difficult to mold the halves together
because a slight reaction was occurring when I put them together. Next, I put the different mixtures
into half a mold and stuck the halves together into the freezer for 2 hours. Then, I took the bath
bomb and put it into a bowl full of warm water. Finally, I watched the reaction and recorded my

  • 2. One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest Essay example Throughout the film, One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest , many changes differentiate the movie from the book. Not only can these differences be seen in the characters of the novel, but also in the series of events that make this story so interesting. In this essay, the significance of these differences will be revealed as well as the reasons for the changes. The first difference between the filmand the novelis the narration. In the book, Chief Bromden is the narrator who reveals McMurphy s story in the mental hospital. Chief is the main charactersince he is the one who s life we learn about the most throughout the book. We learn that he is a paranoid schizophrenic, and a half breed Indian. We also learn about his family and his past.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fishing episode is another great difference between the novel and the movie. In the book, the fishing trip was a planned event that the Nurse kept trying to ruin. Despite her attempts, McMurphy managed to convince Dr. Spivey to join the group when a prostitute named Candy came with only one car. In the movie, McMurphy hijacks a school bus and encourages the other men of his ward to participate in this act of rebellion against Nurse Ratched. Also, the former fisherman, George, was on the fishing trip in the book, but was not at all present in the movie. The fishing trip in the movie was so different from the book because they wanted to show that McMurphy was not conforming to the Nurse s rules. Unlike in the movie, Cheswick was not present for the fishing trip since he was dead. We see from this that McMurphy would have normally asked before taking the men on the trip since he was trying to get on her better side. In the film, McMurphy remains the noncomformist person he was, up until his lobotomy. However, in the book, Chief observes McMurphy s short attempt to conform to Nurse Ratched s rules. He notices the growing distrust of the other patients towards McMurphy and his increasing sadness as he senses his own doom. The ending is probably the biggest difference between the novel and the film. The book contains an episode ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Debate Over Death Penalty Parker Coss Professor Reiner Writing 39C 7/20/16 Debates over Death Penalty in the United States The issue of death penalty today is a popular topic for numerous public and scholarly discussions. The death penalty has a long and distinguished history in the United States, as it has been around in some form either official or otherwise since the beginning of American society. America originally adopted the British justice system, with hundreds of crimes being punishable by death. Slowly but surely, states began to eliminate the number of things that could lead to the death penalty. Likewise, new methods were introduced, with the electric chair coming about around the turn of the 1900s. The modern death penalty system came after the Supreme Court ruled the death penalty unconstitutional in Furman v. Georgia. Today, the death penalty is only available for murder, only available for people over 18, and not available for people who are mentally retarded. While the differences in punishment between death penalty states and non death penalty states is severe, the difference in outcomes is not as severe. While one would expect death penalty states to have lower murder rates because of the fear of the death penalty, the opposite ends up being true. In death penalty states, the murder rate has been significantly higher in every year since 1990. States without the death penalty also feature lower general crime rates. States with no death penalty also tend to spend less money on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Social Norms And The Affect On Abuse Social Norms and the Affect on Abuse Sticks and stones may break bones, but words make psychological scars that never heal (Mr. Turner). A play on the common idiom, sticks and stones may break my bones but words may never hurt me. Which was once used by parents universally to justify name calling and harsh words, now sheds light on the darker, often unseen wounds of words. These wounds and scars, both psychological and physical fall under abuse and can be ensured, worsened, or inflicted further by harmful social norms. Social norms are pushed on children from birth and throughout their life as an unwritten set of rules that all people must live by in their society. This string of abuse has left a countless number of victims in its wake and continues to do so till this day. Abuse is regrettably a more common part of our society and is described by Margaret O. Hyde in her work, Know About Abuse, as an, harmful, injurious, or offensive treatment (Hyde 4). Abuse is usually only limited to the physical signs, such as; the red ribbons left from the lash of a belt or the blooming bruises from the drop of a fist. Rarely do those take the time to see the trauma and chaos caused by hateful, derogatory, or misused words. Forms of abuse, such as verbal abuse, are so common they have managed to integrate into social norms that include catcalling, slurs, shaming, and other such forms. This affect of chronic name calling can be seen in Stacy A. Teicher s, Boys vs. Girls: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Stalin s Death After World War II After World War II, Berlin had been a constant problem area in East West relations. In 1948 49 Joseph Stalin had tried to blockade the Western sectors into submission by closing off all the land routes into the city, which were almost a hundred miles inside Soviet occupied territory. The West surprised him with a successful airlift that kept West Berlin supplied with sufficient essentials to survive. However, Stalin s death prevented a wall or something similar being constructed in 1953. In 1958, his successor, the unpredictable Nikita Khrushchev, had started threatening West Berlin s status once more. The Soviet leader compared the Allied occupied sectors to the West s testicles. If, he joked, he wanted to cause NATO pain, all he had to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along with the separate and much longer Inner German border (IGB), which demarcated the border between East and West Germany, it came to symbolize a physical marker of the Iron Curtain that separated Western Europe and the Eastern Blocduring the Cold War. Most Germans experienced the building of the Wall as a devastating blow. It was not just a brutal act in itself but also final proof, if proof were needed, that the reunification many still hoped for must remain a distant, even an impossible, dream. There was genuine outrage in West Germany (and to some extent in the East, though this was rapidly suppressed by the Communist secret police, the Stasi, who carried out thousands of arrests). However, given the renewed dangers of conflict during the previous few years, the building of the Wall, although it unleashed a brief East West showdown, was seen from a global perspective not necessarily the catastrophe that it first appeared. At the end of July 1961, the newly elected American President John F. Kennedy, had already ordered a military build up to cope with possible Soviet and Warsaw Pact designs on Berlin (and by implication West Germany). However, his actual response to the building of the Wall was downright muted. Washington made it clear that only if the Soviets and their East German protГ©gГ©s tried ... • 12. Essay about Deserting Washington’s Army Deserting Washington s Army With the Revolutionary War set to begin, the recruitment of soldiers was fully on. Reasons to enlist in the Continental Army were quite candid for numerous individuals. Motives ranged from looking for a fresh start to wanting to honor friendship/family, or even for the sole purpose of securing regular pay. Many looked to reap the benefits that were promised to them for enlisting in the army. As the Revolutionary War waged on for years to come, soldiers of the Continental Army continued to battle, not only the British, but the many hardships that came their way, as well. By 1780 the number of soldiers abandoning their posts/camps had greatly increased due the number of hardships they encountered. Even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A recruiting hand bill by George Washingtonhimself even stated that those who enlisted in the Continental Army would receive a bounty of Twelve dollars...and sixty dollars a year in GOLD, as well as handsome clothing and a large ration of provisions. With every advertisement similar to this one, in which enlistment is claimed to be accompanied with incentives (usually money or land), empty promises were soon to follow. This was a strong driving force that led men to desert their posts because most soldiers were not getting paid what they had been promised. James Kirby Martin even alludes, in his book Ordinary Courage, to the fact that 100 acre was promised to veterans, but that land never materialized for most of them. He addresses this in context stating, The truth was, none cared for them; the country was served, and faithfully served, and that was that was deemed necessary. It was, soldiers, look to yourselves; we want no more of you. I hope I shall one day find land enough to lay my bones in. If I chance to die in a civilized country, none will deny me that. A dead body never begs a grave; thanks for that. Especially with monetary inflation being high during the time of the war, many soldiers deserted the army in order to provide for their families back home. The buying power of the new Continental dollar falls 90% and a number of food riots breakout due to the extreme prices. The lack of financial stability for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. How Did Abraham Lincoln Changed America There has been many great men and women in America that has been an influence in the United States of America who strived to make the United States a better country. One of the many people who has been and continues to be one of the great American influential people is the sixteenth president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln strove to do his duties to serve America during his presidency. He served our country during the time of conflict and kept our country from falling apart during the American Civil War. Also, Lincoln gave his life for what he believed in. Other people might believe that there are better American war heroes or technological advances in the United States; I personally believe Abraham Lincoln was one of the greatest because he changed America for the better through one of the toughest times of war for America, and he put his strong mind into ending slavery. The correct answer is they don t have to: Human genetic engineering can solve some of theses lethal issues now and can solve more in the future. It can help the next generation experience what everyone strives to achieve. Humangenetic engineeringresearch should continue because it can save people s lives, improve human s lives and improve the lives of the next generation of children. Human genetic engineering can save people s lives now and could save more in the future. According to a New Scientist article (Le Page, 2015), Layla was three months when she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, a kind of cancer in the bone marrow. She underwent other treatments like chemotherapy, but those failed so she underwent genetherapy by using the TALEN protein to edit her genes to produce a cancer fighting T cell called UCRAT19; She survived and thrived (Le Page 2015). Saving someone s life through human genetic engineering doesn t even have to be as complicated as altering genes. According to TIME Health (Park, 2014), Mya Burkhart was six months old when her parents started to look for a cure to her rare mutation in the gene for citrate. This mutation prevented certain parts of her from getting enough energy, causing breathing and development problems, and after having no luck with any other diagnosis, a genetic scan figured out what the issue was and gave her citrate supplements (Alice Park, 2014). Both Layla s and Mya s lives were saved because of human genetic engineering. Layla was cured of cancer because of human genetic engineering, which is one toughest diseases for humans to cure right now, while Layla s cancer was cured, but Mya s condition was only treated so maybe if human genetic engineering could continue a cure could be developed to improve her life. Human genetic engineering is not only useful for people in terminal situations it s also useful for the average person. Unfortunately, a bundle of people only focus on a single passage and misrepresent the whole sutta. More details of this will be explored further in the later section, Buddhism and Authority. In The Buddha s Charter of Free Inquiry Soma Thera says that the KДЃlДЃma Sutta is teaching to the KДЃlДЃmas but is also an incentive of free inquiry. The teaching is exemption from the authoritative dogmas, intolerance and personal interest. He further insisted that if one were to discern the discourse correctly, wisdom is processed throughout. The sutta, he said, is very obvious in rejecting the bad and adopting the good way... the place of critical examination and analysis in the development of right vision. Buddha s insight into the matter of judgment is beyond our normal understanding. As the four solaces show that a noble life is not about faith in rebirth and retribution. Instead, it is about happiness of the mind by conquering our own avarice, enmity, and ignorance. Basically, the teaching is for everyone. Why Married American Men Commit Extramarital Affairs Hypothesis Because men are more likely to get involved in sexual relationships outside their marriage due to many different factors, I ve formulated multiple hypotheses below: A.Hypothesis 1 Marital dissatisfaction will be one primary reason for men to cheat on their wives. B.Hypothesis 2 Being married to the same women for many years, can be another potential reason why men commit extramarital affairs. C.Hypothesis 3 Working long distance will be a slightly reason why married men are unfaithful. My hypotheses are connected to the literature that I described above. This is because past researchers in their articles tried to show some possible reasons that influenced men to be unfaithful towards their wives. For this reason, due to past research I was able to create my own hypothesis about why married American men commit extramarital affairs. This means American men get involved in extramarital relationships as a result of many different factors that will influence them to cheat on their wives. Research Method My research question is why married American men decide to engage in sexual acts outside of their marriage? I will proceed collecting my primary data by conducting face to face interviews. My research will be qualitative given that my main goal is to have a deep understanding of why married American men have extramarital affairs. Due to its large successes and quick growth, Advanced Research has also developed into an attractive target for cyber criminals and attackers. That amounts to $1,188,000 for an attack that lasts just under an hour. Can Advanced Research afford even that small amount of downtime? In Game Theory Models and Methods , the prisoner s dilemma is said to be the most widely known example of game theory. This dilemma was invented by Albert Tucker of Princeton University in 1950. In this dilemma, one is to imagine two people arrested under suspicion of having committed a crime together. The police do not have sufficient evidence to convict the criminals. They are placed in two separate rooms and the police visit each suspect, offering a deal. The deal is basically, whoever gives up evidence on the other person will go free. If neither suspect takes the offer, they are working against the police and both will receive a small punishment because of lack of evidence. Both suspects appeared to have won because neither took the offer, but were given a small punishment. However, if one suspect takes the offer and betrays the other, the one who gave up the evidence will gain more because he will be set free and the one who remained quiet will get the full punishment. However, if both suspects betray each other, they will both receive punishment. From this example, we learn that each suspect was given a choice between only two options, but cannot make a good decision without knowing what the other one will do (Game Theory Models and Methods). • 25. Comparing The Novel Out, Out And Disabled Compare the ways in which the writers create sympathy in Out, Out and Disabled In the poems, Robert Frost and Wilfred Owen both create sympathy for the characters through different ways. In Disabled , Owen paints a vivid, moving picture of a soldier who has been injured in World War One and lost his legs and an arm. Wilfred Owen himself took part in the war, consequently witnessing first hand many young men whose lives were similarly destroyed. In the poem, Out, Out , Robert Frost shows the fragility of life in two ways. Firstly alluding to Shakespeare s metaphor in Macbeth s soliloquy Out, out, brief candle , which informs the reader that life is very short and fragile. Moreover, Frost looks at the themes of sudden death and child labour to help to make this a very sad and shocking poem. The poem reflects the tragedy of the accidental death of a child doing a man s job. Frost s description of setting, imagery, and tone create a moving poem with a horrifying ending that leaves the reader feeling despaired at the bleakness of the situation and quite shocked. Even in the structure of the poem, Wilfred Owen shows us a compassionate portrait of loss by switching between and comparing the soldier s experiences before and after war time, and the related memories and emotions, for instance: And girls glanced lovelier as the air grew dim In old times, before he threw away his knees . This example shows the constant comparison and reminder of the soldier s loss ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The services of the economy, smithing, carpentry, clothmaking, etc., are mainly produced in the cities. Iron is the only resource which must be imported abundantly. All of the resources, except iron, that the nation requires, it produces on its own. The Utopians live a very simple lifestyle. They work, and in their spare time play games, read, and socialize. However, gold and silver play a very different role in Utopia. There is no monetary system; all of the people are provided with what they need. Instead of working to get money with which they can choose what they want, their work is repaid with everything they need. What each person needs is decided by them alone, and there is no risk of anyone taking more than they need. Why would anyone take more than they need when they will always be provided for? There is no reason to store up for the future, and there is nothing to do with extra, unnecessary products. The gold and silver then is used for purchasing mercenaries for use in war and for paying citizens of other nations to turn against their country in war. Since gold is of no use to the people of Utopia, it is stored as chamber pots, and cheap jewelry worn only by the bondman, the lowest of Utopian people. When a time comes that requires the use of gold, the Utopians gladly give it up, for to them it is just a toilet. The Utopian government also uses its gold to lend to other nations in need. They are very liberal with their loans, and do not always ask for them to be repaid. Their reasoning is that they have no use for the gold, for they have a surplus of that as well, and the other nation that is in debt has very good use for it. This economy seems very ... • 30. Socioeconomic Class Socioeconomic Class and Behavior It took me years to understand that humans generally divide themselves according to their socioeconomic status. I realized that the clothes I wear, the car I drive, and the way I live is all a way to prove to my peers that my family is in the upper middle class. In the last few years of my life, I realized that some of the people who I call my friends are only my friends because we are in the same socioeconomic class. They didn t choose to be my friend solely on personality and common interests. Somehow, my friend group was always viewed as the popular group in school, but what does that mean? I ve always been perplexed at the fact that socioeconomic class nearly always plays a role in who the popular kids are no matter what school, town, or grade you are in. This social dynamic caused me to research how socioeconomic class contributes to the creation of friend groups in adolescents and what social class tends to hold popularity and power in these school years. I began my research with an article called Elementary School Children s Reasoning About Social Class: A Mixed Methods Study, by Rashmita Mistry et al. This study was published August of 2015 in Child Development Journal. I started with this article because I was hopeful it could prove how children understand socioeconomic class from a young age. The study explored 117 children s opinions and reasoning about socioeconomic classes. It first states that socioeconomic class is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is always something concealed behind the apparent opportunity, but what matters here is that we do not bother to unveil those glittering chances and opportunities that can be efficiently selected and chose for future prospects as well. Pakistan is one of the developing countries, blessed with a plenty of natural resources but sometimes blessings can also become a curse not by the supreme power of Allah but by the human err and wrong decisions. Sometimes, natural resource becomes a curse for developing countries and can be termed as paradox of plenty. The oxidative stress can cause cell damage, resulting in inflammation, which has also been found to be a major contributor to disease progression of GM2 gangliosidosis [17]. In this study, we identified elevation in glutathione pathways, which plays a pivotal role in responses to oxidative stress. Another evidence of inflammation is reduced levels of arachidonic acid, an omega 6 fatty acid, in brain samples of SD mice. Oxidation of arachidonic acid can generate leukotrienes, a family of eicosanoid inflammatory mediators produced in leukocytes, and thus promote inflammation. The increased energy requirements can also activate autophagy and protein catabolism, which have been found in MPS I and MPS VII mice [13]. In this study, we found increased levels of amino acids, amino acid derivatives and dipeptides, indicating increased protein catabolism. Increased requirements of energy and raw materials can also activate lipid metabolism and carbohydrate metabolism, manifested by decreased adiposity, a common observation in many lysosomal diseases [18 20]. In addition, the enlarged lysosome and distended cells due to abnormal accumulation requires increased membrane synthesis, which can also affect lipid metabolism. Our previous proteomic analysis [21] also identified abnormality in the cytoskeleton system, which can be partially attributed to altered cellular architecture due to storage accumulation. I play of my state lacrosse team we have our first tournament this weekend and I don t wanna be the reason that we lose. I was originally a D pole for my city team but my coach for state thought otherwise. I could run the field in 20 seconds flat. At least that is what my coach said. I started out the day with a couple fakes and spin moves nothing hard just the kind of stuff you need to know when you want to start. My sister decides to come and play me in a 1v1 (me and my sister are competitive) I accept so we go to the plains across the street I bring the net along with us. Often considered one of the first great cityplanners of pre modern times, Haussmann was given the task to recreate the sprawling mass that Paris had become into a landmark of both beauty and power. Haussmann was given a daunting and seemly insurmountable goal as he took over as the city planner of Paris: to reinvent the way that urban environments were built and maintained in a way that showed the power of the government while keeping to a budget. He dedicated much of his professional life to this task, and when he had taken his last breath what had been done would forever alter the way that the foundations of cities would be built. Haussmann s main methods that had positive outcomes included: creating large new boulevards, expanding the amount of green space that existed inside of the city, creating new sewers and fresh water systems, and linking the suburbs to the city. His critics, on the other hand, argue that his tactics showed little to no concern for both the historic buildings that lined the city streets and entire sections of working class neighborhoods. Many people debate about it, but were Lewis and Clark respectful to the Natives they met on their journey? They weren t in fact respectful at all. Starting with liberalism s demand for increased individual freedom, what began as a small movement eventually transformed into a culture wide fight for social justice and economic growth to create a free market where, ideally, no government would be needed. Activists term this modern movement neo liberalism, or global market liberalism (capitalism), which calls for free trade policies. While adopting such a system for American cities has been advocated by many people for its economic benefits, it also necessarily creates new relations between the citygovernment and the residents who live there, which in turn affects the urban environment and social relations within the city. The question is a persistent one in our place and time: to globalize, or not to globalize? Globalization requires highly specialized services, telecommunications, infrastructure, and industrial services. Economic globalization has mostly been represented in terms of the duality between national and global, where the global gains power and advantages at the expense of the national. For example, Saskia Sassen, author of Whose City Is It?, states many disadvantages of global cities for women, immigrants, and people of color, whose political sense of self and identities are not necessarily embedded in the nation (206). To make the decision of whether or not it should be used in a particular class, so many variables need to be examined including; the aims for learning and teaching a language, the actual teaching process, the cultural acceptance and appropriateness of CLT, and the readiness for teachers to use it. What is CLT? Where did it come from? Communicative language teaching (CLT) is based on the idea that language is but a mean for communication, and so its primary goal is to achieve, what is called, communicative competence. For CLT, a good language learner is one who can communicate well in a real life situation that which involves a lot of strategies to keep a meaningful conversation and to avoid any communication gap. Unlike the audio lingual method, which originally originated from behaviorism, CLT did not have any psychological background. Thus, all that CLT material developers and syllabus designers had was the broad theory that students learn best by doing. It was all based on the general assumption that the learners communicative competence develops automatically through their active participation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This made it difficult to mold the halves together because a slight reaction was occurring when I put them together. Next, I put the different mixtures into half a mold and stuck the halves together into the freezer for 2 hours. Then, I took the bath bomb and put it into a bowl full of warm water.
