- The document discusses systematic searching for systematic reviews. It provides an overview of databases commonly used for evidence-based medicine searches, including Medline, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library, and BMJ. It discusses developing focused search terms and strategies for different databases. It also addresses evaluating search results and broadening searches when too few results are found initially.
This document provides an overview of the systematic review process. It begins with developing the research question using PICO(S) or SPICE frameworks. This is then translated into search terms and concepts. The document outlines searching databases and other sources, as well as screening and critically appraising the literature. It discusses data synthesis and publication bias. Tips are provided for searching, such as using wildcards, adjacency searches, and combining concepts. Challenges like books, grey literature, and other languages are noted. Reference manager software is also mentioned.
Assessment Process And The Treatment Of ADHD in Childrenbailey1775
The document discusses the history and diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). It describes how ADHD was first identified in 1845 and its name and diagnostic criteria have changed over time. Currently, diagnosis of ADHD requires a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning in two or more settings. The document raises concerns about overdiagnosis of ADHD in children and overprescription of medications. It suggests developing workshops for teachers and parents to improve understanding of ADHD symptoms versus normal development in children.

Articulating and Testing a HypothesisGoals of the assignment.docxwraythallchan
Articulating and Testing a Hypothesis
Goals of the assignment:
To create a hypotheses about human behavior from a developmental perspective
To gather empirical data to test that hypothesis
To logically evaluate whether the data support or refute your hypothesis
Directions for the assignment:
For this assignment, you will need to work closely with an individual of your choosing. This person could be a parent, friend, romantic partner, sibling, child, or anyone else you know. You will need to obtain written consent (i.e., you must inform him or her that you are working on a school-related project & the individual must agree to be your “participant”) and attach it to your assignment when you turn it in. If you choose to observe someone who is younger than 18 years old, you must obtain approval from both the child
and
his/her parent.
Before you begin, you will need to prepare for your observation. You will need to:
a)
Propose a hypothesis about the person’s development
that you will be able to test during your interaction. This hypothesis could relate to cognitive, physical, social, or emotional development. However, you must base your hypothesis on an
established theory of development
(e.g., Erikson’s theory of socioemotional development, Piaget’s theory of cognitive development, Marcia’s theory of identity development, etc.).
b) Design a
series of questions or tasks
that you will use to test your hypothesis while you’re interacting with the person.
When you meet with your participant, lead him or her through the questions, tasks, or other activities you have planned that will allow you to test your hypothesis.
Keep careful notes
of the person’s answers to your questions, their behavior, and other responses you see from them.
After your interaction is complete, write a 3-5 page paper describing what you did & why. Your paper should include details about the following:
1) Your hypothesis (30% of grade)
a. What exactly was your hypothesis?
b. On which theory of development is your hypothesis based?
c. What questions or activities did you develop that will allow you to test your hypothesis?
d. What kinds of responses did you
expect
to see from your participant that would have supported your hypothesis? How exactly would those behaviors or responses support the hypothesis you proposed?
2) Your interaction with your participant (30% of grade)
a. Describe who your participant was: Sex, age, your relationship to him or her, etc..
b. Describe the context of your interaction: Where were the two of you? How long did it take? etc.
c. Describe your interaction: What questions did you ask & what answers did the person give? If you asked him or her to complete any activities (tasks, tests, etc.), what were they? How did your participant perform on them?
3) “Testing” or evaluating your hypothesis (30% of grade)
a. Which
individual
behaviors or answers
supported (fit with) or contradicted (went against) your hyp.
The document summarizes an assignment to analyze the book "The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog" by Bruce D. Perry and Maia Szalavitz. The assignment requires students to critically think about and answer questions related to the book, citing evidence from the text and other sources. It explores how childhood trauma affects brain development and social functioning. Students must demonstrate understanding of research and theories on how early life experiences shape development across the lifespan.
Children and antisocial personality disorderalbrandon
Children who exhibit antisocial behavior and conduct problems are more likely to develop antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) as adults. ASPD is characterized by behaviors such as breaking laws, lying, aggression, and lack of remorse. Several studies examined links between childhood abuse, homelessness, ADHD, conduct disorder, and adult criminal behavior or ASPD. While the literature cannot say definitively that childhood conduct problems cause ASPD, it raises the possibility. Interventions in childhood may help reduce antisocial behavior and the potential development of ASPD, but more research is needed to identify the most effective intervention approaches for different disorders.

Brief historic overview
Historically, Play Therapy (PT) has emerged from the conceptual understandings found in
psychoanalytic and humanistic psychology, psychotherapy and child development literature. In Europe
in the early 1900s, Melanie Klein and Anna Freud (the daughter of Sigmund Freud) included play in
their psychoanalytic treatment of children.
In 1935, Margaret Lowenfeld first published Play in Childhood documenting her in-depth observations
of children whilst working at the ‘Clinic for nervous and difficult children’ in London. In the United
States, Virginia Axline focused her work on conceptualising and documenting Non Directive Play
Therapy (NDPT) by drawing from the humanistic and relational perspective of her teacher and
colleague Carl Rogers (Axline, 1969). Rogers (1951) was instrumental in establishing treatment plans
based on necessary and sufficient conditions for growth. These included therapeutic congruence,
unconditional positive regard, empathic understanding and acceptance.
From these beginnings, several different theoretical models of PT have emerged. Based on Axline’s
principles, the most well-known is Non-Directive or Child-Centred Play Therapy (CCPT) which has
been further developed by Garry Landreth and colleagues and integrated into teaching parents or
guardians the principles found in CCPT, known as Filial Play.

Play is the natural world of the child. Childre.
The document discusses a research study that examined children's affective (emotional) reactions to the BODY WORLDS exhibits, which display real human bodies that have been plastinated (had tissues replaced with plastic). The study compared:
1) Adults' expectations of how children would react vs. children's own expectations.
2) Adults' expectations vs. children's actual reactions.
3) Children's expectations vs. their actual reactions.
The results showed that children were less uncomfortable, confused, grossed out, and upset than adults expected. Children more accurately predicted their own reactions than adults did. Overall, children had a more positive experience than adults anticipated.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder that affects 1-3% of the population equally among males and females. Sigmund Freud believed that OCD stemmed from issues with potty training as a child. Therapists now use various approaches including trait, biological, humanistic, behavioral, cognitive, and exposure response prevention to understand and treat OCD. Treatment focuses on helping clients gain self-esteem and reduce anxiety when confronting obsessive thoughts and compulsions.
The document discusses narrative therapy and its use with ADHD. It explains that narrative therapy sees identity as fluid and expressed through one's own storytelling. This challenges deficit views of conditions like ADHD. The document describes two studies using narrative therapy with youth diagnosed with ADHD. The therapy aimed to deconstruct dominant negative views of ADHD and help individuals discover their own strengths and successes.

For my final project I am choosing the environmental influences on personality particularly about childhood experiences and their effect on an individual’s personalities. I am contrasting childhood experiences that are caused by their environment to the effect on their personality, I will use the correlation research method. A questionnaire will be used in order to obtain the information I would need. This method would admit me to have a larger sample base, have a better image of the relationship, and numerous variables providing for better research circumstances down the road. The disadvantage to this technique would be, I would not have a personal relationship from those apart of the study and this could cause a lack of dishonesty. Second, establishing a questionnaire that was both dependable and accurate could be an issue. Lastly, I would only get a view at what those in the group went through.
Ethically, I would run into a problem of confidentiality and making sure all of the questionnaires were kept secret and those taking them were offered secrecy. Anyone who take part in the activity would be able to eliminate themselves from the research if they wanted to and if they left the documents it would be destroyed. I would maintain their best interest and would be real and honest with them regarding what the study is being used for and why it was being done. Still, because there isn’t a personal relationship but just general on this could be difficult to prove and cause doubt and that could be an ethical crisis.

The document discusses two client case studies for a psychology assignment on sexual dysfunction and gender dysphoria. The first case involves a client with a sexual problem impacting daily functioning, and the student is asked to provide a DSM diagnosis and assessment. The second case involves a 13-year old female client who identifies as male, and the student must also provide a DSM diagnosis and assessment, considering symptoms and impacts on the client and family. The student is asked to discuss how to create a comfortable environment for discussing sensitive issues with clients and reference resources used to address the assignment.
This study examined the effects of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) on emotional self-efficacy (ESE) and anxiety (ANX) in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and anxiety disorders. The study hypothesized that CBT would increase ESE and decrease ANX through opportunities for self-evaluation. Results supported all hypotheses, showing CBT increased ESE, ESE and ANX were negatively correlated, and increases in ESE predicted decreases in ANX. The findings suggest treatment models targeting ESE may effectively reduce ANX.
Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterized by a persistent lack of attention and/or heightened activity level compared to peers. It is diagnosed when these behaviors are present in multiple settings and interfere with functioning. However, the diagnostic criteria and assessment procedures for ADHD have been criticized for being subjective and not scientifically validated. There is ongoing debate around ADHD's classification as a disorder and appropriate treatment approaches.

This study examined factors related to posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) in pediatric cancer patients and their caregivers. The researchers analyzed surveys from 31 patient-caregiver dyads. They found that patient-reported PTSS was predicted by self-reported worry, while caregiver-reported patient PTSS was predicted by the caregiver's perception of the patient's physical appearance. Additionally, caregiver-reported caregiver PTSS was predicted by the caregiver's report of the patient's psychosocial functioning. The results suggest discrepancies between how patients and caregivers view factors related to PTSS.
This document provides instructions for using Rayyan, a web-based tool for systematic reviews and meta-analyses. It outlines the key features and functions of Rayyan including how to create a new review project, upload reference sets from reference managers, invite collaborators, start screening references, resolve duplicates, and export results. The summary highlights the main workflow steps in Rayyan for organizing literature screening projects.
This document provides instructions for importing references from multiple databases into Zotero and deduplicating the references. It recommends preparing files for import, naming files with database and number of results. It then explains how to import files into separate folders in Zotero, copy all references to a main folder, and select all to check the total matches the main folder. It details how to duplicate items and select fields to simplify deduplication, merging obvious duplicates first before harder ones. It provides tips for comparing references like DOIs, abstracts, titles, and item types when deduplicating.
This document provides an overview of the process for conducting a systematic review, from developing a research question to searching for relevant literature and screening results. It discusses formulating the research question into searchable terms and concepts, using different search techniques and databases to maximize sensitivity and specificity. Iterative searching is emphasized to refine search strategies. The importance of documenting search strategies for reproducibility is also highlighted.

Banobi, J. A., Branch, T. A., & Hilborn, R. (2011). Do rebuttals affect future science?. Ecosphere , 2 (3).
Zoekopdracht 1 is feitelijk: (((science OR physics) AND teaching methods) OR lesson plans) (haakjes zijn in dit geval niet nodig want dit is precies wat de zoekmachine doet) Zoekopdracht 2 is: (science OR physics) AND (teaching methods OR lesson plans)
