Parachute Rigger History
A combination of both active duty and retired Parachute Riggers packed the Fleet Readiness
Center (FRC) Paraloft Building 1403 at the Patuxent River Naval Station on Thursday, Sep. 07 at
11 a.m. to mark the 75th Diamond Anniversary of the Aircrew Survival Equipmentmen or
Parachute Rigger (PR) rating. The celebration was to commemorate 75 years of the established
Parachute Rigger rating set for September 2017; and it included the photographing of PRs in line
from youngest to oldest on 81A Packing Deck, a cake cutting by the oldest and youngest PR, and
the sharing of sea stories. Aircrew Survival Equipmentman 1st Class Thiwa Thipkhosithkun Tip ,

The whole reason for changing the title from Parachute Riggers was to provide a more realistic
description of the types of duties that PRs actually maintain. The Parachute Rigger (PR) rating,
which came to fruition in 1942 to satisfy World War II parachute survival regulations, initially
included the general service rating with career ascendancy from striker level status through Chief
Parachute Rigger (PRC) status. Presently, service members are not permitted to strike for PR due to
safety concerns. Instead, they are required to attend technical schools that help them gain the

Legalization Of Steroids In Sports
high intensity physical competition would be monstrous for the opposing team, giving the player
the advantage of fear and discretion on the playing field. The use of steroids also increases
endurance in the muscles of those who take them. This may be the single biggest reason that
steroids give an unfair advantage in a competitive setting. Since steroids can increase endurance
levels multiple times, athletes find it easier to run faster and improve their performance in sports, (
Steroids in Sports. ). Steroids are used to enhance endurance for many reasons. First, increased
muscle endurance makes for much more intense training. An athlete on the juice can train harder
and longer than any natural athlete, causing unfairness in preparation... Show more content on

In an article published by Anthony Roberts, he describes the disadvantages of having undesirable
genetics and others having desirable genetics. He goes as far as to say, I d much rather see
athletes compete on an even genetic ground (even if it is evened up by performance enhancing
drugs), ( Anabolic Steroids: Leveling the Playing Field? ). This statement is absurd due to all of the
advantages steroid use gives an athlete. In his article he explains that someone with elite genetics
will respond better to training and growth, and though this is true, this cannot simply be evened up
with the use of anabolics. Even with the best of genetics, the human body can only achieve so much
before it reaches its natural limits. The use of steroids gives the human body the ability to surpass
this natural limit significantly even with the worst of

Georgia to look for his son. A couple of weeks after the initial missing report, my client s son was
found in the woods of Georgia, he was deceased. An autopsy concluded that there was foul play
and that this incident would be investigated as a homicide. Following the investigation, three local
Georgia men were determined to be involved in the murder of my client s son. The investigation
concluded the belief that these three gentleman lived in a nearby apartment complex. They
premeditated to murder my client s son based on a robbery. They believed that the young man had
sold a truck earlier in the day. The three men charged requested that the young man help move some
furniture at their apartment. During this event is when they strangled him to death and began
searching for the money that the son had made from selling a vehicle earlier that day. The report
read that there was not any money taken because the money was spent the same day the vehicle

Security Guard Training Report
Information that I had gathered.
On the State Universities Civil Service System website, they have posted every Civil Service
classification and pay scale from all the universities but ours. The starting Pay Rate of the
Security Guards is $13.06 and the max pay rate is at $14.62. The Security Officers have a starting
pay rate of $17.00 and as of now, no max pay rate. Attached are pictures of the pay rate and a link to
said website.
пЃ¶Uniforms

This is being done in the Emergency Department. This only occurs when a patient is being

These restraints can also happen on any floor throughout of the hospital with authorization from a

the concourse to the second floor and rotate location every hour while the Security Officers patrol
the entire hospital. They radio into dispatch saying where they are within the hospital and clearing
themselves from each floor, or if we just patrolling the whole building. The sergeant will give

Recording Studio At The Age Of 21
Recording studio the main aim of this business is to offer an affordable practice space and
recording studio to young bands and older more established ones as well. I also plan to have a
student discount for bands under the age of 21, perhaps a 10% discount. The focus of the business
would be mainly on practice space containing high end equipment including brands like marshal
and Ashdown; however a large amount of effort and resources will be used creating a small, elite
studio recording space with single instrument/vocal pods, 2/3, an eight foot drum recording room,
and one large full band room with sufficient mid high end microphones. Transition into the full
recording studiois the main aim of this business and will hopefully take... Show more content on

This would make competitive pricing very hard especially for a new business; however the
distance to Leeds from Harrogate, with train ticket prices makes up the total cost of a single band
practice at least 15 ВЈ20 per person. With the high socio economic group of Harrogate citizens, we
as business can charge a similar price but locally to secure as much revenue as possible.
In this screen shot you can see that there is only one other studio space in Harrogate, and after
looking at the website, all I can tell is that they are a recording studio in Harrogate, they say
nothing about pricing, availability or much else. This would imply they don t get much business
as they aren t trying very hard to advertise. Though this could imply that the lack of effort is due
to a lack of interest, I believe there is definitely enough demand in the Harrogate area, and it only
leaves more room in the Harrogate market for my business to occupy.
I think that this business will require a location that is enough distance from the city centre so
not to disturb other businesses and flats, as when bands are playing music, maybe more than one
at a time, a substantial amount of noise pollution will be created. However it does need to be
close enough that it is easily accessible and can be seen by the general public easily. So perhaps

This change can be best illustrated by comparison of Figures 1.1 and 1.2 in Appendix 1, wherein
the possible corporate structures may tend to three different values, i.e. cost, differentiation and
responsiveness; Spartan strategy has shifted its focus from a differentiation and responsive model
to a cost effective model.
Job shop method of production to Hybrid method.
The new corporate strategy implies re engineering from a job shop method of production to a hybrid
method of production. The former involved manufacturing operations with several departments,
each of which produced particular components whereas the latter being a flow operation where
multiple stations can work simultaneously. This will mainly allow Spartan to increase volume of
production, reduce lead time and it will further lead in cutting down the carrying cost of inventory,
even though the inventory will be high.
Change in Corporate Culture.
The new strategy will affect the corporate structure of the company. Earlier the work was based
on the specific requirements of the client and it was more of research based but now the focus on
research will be less and it will be more on general requirements. Therefore the type of work would
shift.
The present organizational chart of the SC Department in the company includes two buyers, one
material control clerk, one expeditor and two shipper/receivers. This structure was functional to the
previous strategy

Fate vs Free Will in Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare
The hubris of rich, powerful, or politically connected men creates a false sense of security that
often leads to their fate being a horrific downfall. Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare exposes
the conflicting ideas that exist between fate and free will by showing the relationship between
Caesar, Brutus, and their wives, and how the decisions Cassius makes effect his fate. Conflicting
ideas existed between the spouses and as well as the decisions Cassius make and how they affect
him. Fate gives Brutus a chance to change his decision that he made of his own free will about
killing Caesar by having Portia, who is Brutus s wife, encourage him to change his mind. First,
Portia gives Brutus a sign of fate by revealing that when the men left her house they hid their
faces even from darkness (II, i, 905). Brutus decides to ignore Portia s warning about men who
hide their faces, which is one of the events that leads up to Brutus s, and also Portia s suicidal act
of [swallowing] hot coals , fated suicide (Salem Press). Next, Portia reminds Brutus that she is not
weak because she is well reputed and a woman that Brutus saw fit to marry (II, i, 923). Even
knowing and being sufficiently reminded that Portia is not of lesser intelligence than he is; Brutus
still continues on with his decision to betray Caesar. Also, Portia reminds Brutus that he can trust
her to help him make the right decision and that she will not disclose his secrets to others (II, i,
926). Brutus at this

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks Essay
Henrietta Lacks is not a common household name, yet in the scientific and medical world it has
become one of the most important and talked names of the century. Up until the time that this book
was written, very few people knew of Henrietta Lacks and how her cells contributed to modern
science, but Rebecca Sklootaimed to change this. Eventually Skloot was able to reach Henrietta s

Then it was transferred to George Gey s lab, where they would cultivate it and attempt to grow

multiple days of being cultivated and still living, Gey began to realize that he had discovered
something amazing, and he slowly started to share his discovery with the world. When the cells
finally began growing in Gey s lab it was seen as a huge advance in the world of science, seeing
as no one had succeeded beforehand, this was a great accomplishment on his part. However,
Henrietta was never told of this or how important her cells had become, she simply continued
living without knowing that the cancerous cells inside her were continuing to grow despite
receiving treatment from the doctors. Her only treatment was a small patch of radiation sewn
directly into her cervix on the area where the tumor had appeared, after some tests showed that the
tumor had disappeared she continued with her normal life of farming, raising her children, and
enjoying life. Henrietta never complained about any side effects of the radiation, however, it
eventually would make her infertile and cause her skin on her torso to turn black. Dr. Gey

Comparing Congeniality And My Fair Lady
As a wise woman often says, There s nothing new under the sun when it comes to literature. This
means that nearly all works written or produced currently have been procured from previously
written stories, though not always intentional. This process is known as intertextualization, which
is clearly noted in the 2000 film Miss Congeniality, derived from the 1964 film My Fair Lady.
Intertextuality has been woven into this movie through similar archetypes, role reversals, and
dГ©nouments. In My Fair Lady, Professor Higgins displays the archetype of a teacher, just as
Victor Melling from Miss Congeniality does. Both of these characters are teaching the leading,
female actresses how to become more proper and lady like. Henry Higgins transforms Eliza
Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl, into a duchess by teaching her proper english. In the same way,
Victor converts Gracie Hart, a masculine FBI agent from New Jersey, into a scholarship program
queen. The teacher archetype is an important component to the intertextuality... Show more content

Although Higgins starts off as the professor, he eventually becomes the student: I ve learned
something from [Eliza s] idiotic notions. Eliza evolves from a poverty stricken, lower class,
flower girl to a proper and stately lady after Henry s teachings. Ultimately, Henry s role of
teacher is passed to Eliza when she says, The difference between a lady and a flower girl is not
how she behaves, but how she is treated. In saying this, Eliza shows Henry that since she has
changed, he cannot walk all over her because she [isn t] so deliciously low. So horribly dirty,
anymore. An intertextually identical change happens in Gracie when she changes from the flower
girl of the FBI to the beautiful and graceful pageant girl through Victor s teachings. Her change

Effects Of Alcohol On The Alcoholic Beverage
The alcoholic beverage has long been a key element of our social world and has grown into a
way of life for many. It is something that is at almost every party that we attend, it is advertised on
television, and is promoted by many celebrities. People consume alcohol to celebrate an occasion,
socialize with their friends or strangers, or to just simply relax. Alcohol, whether it be in the form
of wine, beer, or spirits, have almost become inescapable in todays society. We often wonder the
effect that is has on different individuals, and wonder why some become so heavily addicted to it
while others do not. Because the prevalence of alcohol has continued to flourish in our society, the

Some acute physical effects of having an elevated BAC level can include: reduced inhibitions,
slurred speech, motor impairment, confusion, memory problems, concentration problems, breathing
problems, violent behavior, being involved in a car accident, or in worse case scenario, death
(niaaa).
When an individual finds himself or herself drinking heavily over a long period of time, they may
develop chronic physical effects of alcoholism. Alcoholism is currently listed as the third leading
cause of death in our society (dlcas). However, because many deaths related to alcohol go
unreported, some believe that alcoholism could be the number one killer in today s world (dlcas).
For example, when a person dies from the failure of an organ, the role that alcohol could have
played in that failure is not taken into consideration. It is no doubt that alcohol certainly has the
potential to cause serious physical harm to all of the body systems. Symptoms can arise in an
individual s general appearance, such as having hand tremors, irritability, jaundice, rosacea, and
swelling of the parotid gland (dlcas). The gastrointestinal tract can be affected by alcoholism
producing symptoms of dyspepsia, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea that is recurrent, abdominal pain,
hypo or hyperglycemia, and can damage the liver (dlcas). Alcoholism can also affect the

Greeks and Africans Americans
Native American religions are very closely connected to the land in which Native Americans dwell
and the supernatural. While there are many different Native American religious practices, most
address the following areas of supernatural concern: an omnipresent, invisible universal force,
pertaining to the three life crises of birth, puberty, and death , spirits, visions, the medicine people
and communal ceremony. Greek religion encompasses the collection of beliefs and rituals
practiced in ancient Greece in the form of both popular public religion and cult practices. These

The first arrivals were young boys bought by American naval officers and philanthropists on the
Turkish slave block. They were sent to the United States for education and freedom and many
distinguished themselves as teachers or naval officers.
It was not until the turn of the century that the yearly Greek immigrants numbered a thousand or
more. They were mostly young men and boys escaping poverty by sailing towards the bright light
of America. Some came to avoid the compulsory three year military service in the Greek army
where a peasant youth could seldom rise above a menial. A great many came from those parts of
Greece still under Ottoman domination which conscripted Greek youths into the dreaded Turkish
infantry.
From Ellis Island they made their way about the streets of New York, searching for someone with
the same ethnic characteristics as their own who could help them find work. Sometimes they
wandered about, lost in the city s maze, until a labor agent, through signs, offered them work in
mills, factories, or road gangs elsewhere. The more fortunate ones, who knew countrymen already
working in the textile cities, went directly to them. But some of these men could not adapt to the
noise and confusions of the factories and their spirit of adventure led them to climb freights and
travel over the plains and mountains to the west.

Maus Act 1 Scene 1 Essay
Memorable Scenes
MAUS has many memorable scenes as Artie goes through his father s life through his comic.
Through guilt, lack of communication, as well as lack of relationship that Artie and Vladek had as
a family.
Artie s mother, Anja, committed suicide shortly after an interaction that she had with her son. In
Chapter 5 of MAUS Artie wrote a comic about his mother titled, Prisoner on the Hell Planet, and
in this comic, he recalls the last interaction that he remembers having with his mother. She came
into his room late at night asking her son if he still loved her. His response was, sure, ma (103), as
he turned away from her. Shortly after, she committed suicide and Artie feels partly responsible for
such event.
Throughout MAUS Artie s dad, Vladek, calls out to Anja as he misses her and the audience can t
help but feel for both Vladek and Artie as we know how at fault Artie feels for her death and
Vladek s broken heart.
Throughout MAUS, it is shown that Artie and Vladek do not have the greatest father, son
relationship. The first line of the comic proves this, I went out to see my father in Rego Park. I
hadn t seen him in a long time we weren t that close (11). When Vladek needs help from Artie, he

audience. It does not want the focus to be on how entertaining action can make the comic but how

Genetic Transformation Of Genetic Dna
Genetic transformation occurs when an organism s genetic makeup is altered due to the
introduction of new genetic information which is then incorporated into the organism s genome. In
this lab the pGLO plasmid is introduced into E. Coli bacteria, and incorporates the genes which
code for the GFP and beta lactamase to the bacterias genome which as a result will be modified. To
test the effects of the plasmid, bacteria treated with the plasmid were grown on separate plates, the
first containing LB nutrient broth and ampicillin, another containing LB nutrient broth and
arabinose and another containing LB nutrient broth, ampicillin and arabinose. Two more plates
were grown, one with LB nutrient broth and ampicillin and the other with only the LB broth, using
cells that did not contain the plasmid. Since the lab was about genetic transformation, the goal was
to find which plate would glow. It was found that the plates that were not exposed to the plasmid
did not glow, and the plates containing LB and arabinose and LB, ampicillin and arabinose did
glow. The plates containing ampicillin, the antibiotic that kills E. coli did not grow whereas the
remaining plates at least had some growth.

How did the Second World War Affect Family Life in Britain...
How did the Second World War Affect Family Life in Britain Between 1939 45? The Blitz
comes from a German word meaning lightning. It was the sustained strategic bombing of the
United Kingdom by Germany during the Second World War. Between 7 September 1940 and 21
May 1941 there were major raids (attacks in which more than 100 tons of high explosives were
dropped) on 16 British cities. Over a period of 267 days (almost 37 weeks), London was attacked
71 times, Birmingham, Liverpool and Plymouth eight times, Bristol six, Glasgow five,
Southampton four, Portsmouth three, and there was also at least one large raid on another eight
cities. This was a result of a rapid escalation starting on 24 August 1940, when night bombers

We lads used to pray for raids during math classes because it meant a small diversion. We used to
collect aluminum for the war effort. Old saucepans, frying pans anything used to be collected
and when a truckload was achieved the authorities used to collect it, and it was used for building
aircraft. The Germans used to drop hundreds of meters of foil strips called window to put a large
amount of metal in the sky it confused our early and primitive radar into thinking there were a
lot of aircraft coming. So our fighters would take off and go to attack, only to find it a false
alarm, and be out of fuel when the main raid attacked elsewhere. Window was a favorite
collection item. We thought it insane that Mr Hitler would send us all this aluminum for us to
turn into aircraft to go and bomb him with. So even we kids were roped into the war effort. I
remember one particular day Baggy Davis and I had tied a rope to a tail section of a downed
German fighter aircraft, and with the help of about 6 other lads dragged it about 2 miles to school
leaving silver streaks along the road as we went. We got extra points for our houses [teams] for

The Social Sciences Essay
The Hawthorne Studies is one of the most well known series of experiments of the social sciences
in industrial history. The objective of the experiments were to establish how an individual is
influenced not only by their own abilities, but by their working environment and the people they
work with, both fellow workers and supervisors. To gain a better understanding of what the
Hawthorne studies were, why they were conducted, and how they have impacted management
practices, one must first understand the history behind the key contributors of this study and the
location where the studies took place, the Western Electric Company. However, the studies did
receive criticism, some of which was considered fairly harsh, such as from Alex Carey The
Hawthorne studies were conducted by Harvard s Business School Industrial Research Group,
George Elton Mayo, and Fritz J. Roethlisberger. These two men were major contributors to what we
know as the Hawthorne Effect, and their contributions to this experiment has set forth
unprecedented changes in the way organizations run.
Fritz Roethlisberger was born in NYC in 1898 and earned a BA in engineering from Columbia
University, BS in engineering administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a
MA in philosophy from Harvard University. Roethlisberger started work on his PhD in philosophy
at Harvard University but never finished. His studies were put on hold after meeting Harvard
professor George Elton Mayo. Roethlisberger

How do the Poets Explore the Theme of Death in Educating...
Tone is very important in poetry as it plays a role in the way the characters within the poem are
portrayed, the way we perceive the writers intentions and it sets the mood when reading the
poem. This can clearly be seen with mother in a refugee camp as the poem overall has a very
hopeless and harsh tone and this can be seen when the narrator of the poem say, She soon would
have to forget in the context that the death of the child is inevitable and they are hopeless as they
cannot defy destiny. This is also harsh as the poet does not cover up death with euphemisms but is
very straight forward saying that there is no other choice other than to forget. When it comes to
describing the mother it becomes a very gentle and caring tone and... Show more content on

The pleading tone can be seen in the poem when Dylan Thomas says, Curse, bless, me now with
your fierce tears, I pray. This comes as plea to his dad to fight death and not give in and this also
emphasizes Dylan Thomas s desperation for his father to wake up and not give in. On the other
hand with Remember the tone develops as you go through the poem and it goes from a
commanding tone to one that is accepting towards the end and this can be seen when Christina
Rossetti says, Better by far you should forget and smile than that you should remember and be sad.
This shows us that the character actually cares about the feelings of the person that loves her as
she would rather that they forget and be happy than for them to remember and be sad. This
development of tone comes as a natural due to the fact that the nature of the poem is a sonnet.
Sonnets tend to convey a problem in the first octave and find the solution to that problem in the last
sestet and this can clearly be seen in remember as she is telling them to remember but then she
realizes that she cannot hold on to them forever and actually sets them free. As for E for L the
poem on a whole is provocative and angry and this can be seen with multiple and ruthless acts of
murder that he commits with no mercy at all. These include I squash flies against the window and
I pour the gold fish down the bog these acts of murder emphasize how dangerous, psychotic and
deluded this person really is. They also highlight

Anthropology is defined, in the most basic terms, as the study of other cultures. This field can
subsequently be divided into more specific sects, and contain more precise defining characteristics,
but this definition is essentially all that is needed. Anthropology is a science that attempts to look at
other cultures and draw conclusions to questions that are raised while studying. An anthropologist
is someone who accepts what is presented before them and is driven by an urge to understand each
presentation as thoroughly as possible. Once the concept of anthropology is accepted, one must
identify the means of reaching the goal of this field. In the sect of social anthropology, this vehicle

Although Malinowskis writings have been widely read and understood, they are not generally
accepted as correct. Malinwoski writes in a style of perpetuating the notion of Self and Other. His
attempts at understanding the culture he is studying may be of good intention, but he uses a
condescending, superior attitude in the process. He aims at being in touch with the natives,
(Malinoski, 8) but describes the people as savages and explains that ethnology has introduced law
and order into what seemed chaotic and freakish. It has transformed for us the sensational, wild and
unaccountable world of savages into a number of well ordered communities, governed by law,
behaving and thinking according to consistent principles (Malinowski, 9 10). He is essentially
contradicting himself, saying that he both strives to be in touch with the natives in order to give a
full understanding of their lives, while conducting his research with a superior attitude, which
denies any chances of being authentically in touch. It is this contradiction that has prompted many
to use new techniques, transgressing the rules established by Malinowski and his contemporaries.

While in the workplace you will encounter different personalities, followers and leaders. Both of
these are vital to working and both are equally as important. A good follower is someone who
shows support towards the leader, challenges constructively the leader or group s behaviors or
policies is they threaten the common purpose, and takes a moral stand when warranted to
prevent ethical abuses. Followers also play a key role in critical thinking as they are termed the
best critical thinkers in a group. Being a follower requires a commitment to the group to contribute
within a collaborative environment. A leader, however, is a person that was a great follower for a
very long period of time. Through following they have learned how to be friendly, learn social
skills, and how to handle tasks and emotions. One vital trait that a leader must possess it trust. If a

Lab Report On The Mass Of Actual Aspirin ( Acetylsalicylic...
Abstract: This experiment utilizes skills of titration in order to find the percent mass of actual
aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) in store bought aspirin. Two steps and two kinds of titrations are
used. First, approximately 0.1 M NaOH solution was standardized using titration with KHP. KHP
was used because it does not absorb moisture when it is stored, and it is soluble in water. The
reaction that takes place in this reaction is a 1:1 mole ratio reaction. The titrationdetermines the
volume of NaOH solution needed to completely react with the known amount of KHP. This
makes the calculation of molarity of NaOH solution fairly easy. The average molarity calculated
was 0.09897 M. The final part of the experiment is a titration to indicate the amount of
acetylsalicylic acid present in approximately 0.5 g of store bought aspirin. The volume of
0.09897 M NaOH solution indicated the moles of NaOH that reacted with the aspirin. The
reaction between NaOH and acetylsalicylic acid is a 1:1 mole ratio reaction. The calculated mass
of acetylsalicylic acid was 0.3963g. This was divided by the initial amount of aspirin measured
(0.4976g), and multiplied by 100 to give the percent mass. This value is 79.66%. This particular
experiment may not be very accurate. Specifically, only two standardization trials were counted.
This may cause a less accurate measurement of NaOH solution molarity, ultimately leading to an
inaccurate percent mass of acetylsalicylic acid.

Federalism is the division of powers between a central government and regional governments. The
United States have a federal system of government where the states and national government
practice the seperation of powers system within their own scopes of authority. The Fourth
Amendment protects the right of the people against unreasonable searches and seizures . The
Fourth Amendment, spoke to the importance of federalism as a mechanism to secure liberty for
the American people. State courts would be responsible for determining if the searches were
conducted with reasonableness, giving the government the closest to the people the most say in
such matters. Regarding privacy rights there have been positive and negative impacts throughout
history. A conflict ensued between two groups (Federalists and Anti Federalists) before the new
constitution could be ratified. Negotiations between two groups: Federalists, who preferred a
strong central government and Anti Federalists, who preferred state s rights, finally agreed to
adopt the Bill of Rights. These amendments deal with freedom of speech and religion, right to

Value At Risk And Risk Management
Value at Risk Framework or VAR framework is mainly used for financial risk management or
financial mathematics in measuring the risk element on a definite portfolio of financial assets,
present in any economic organization. This particular portfolio comprises of time event and
probability, which states the threshold of the riskloss value over the period of time. These risk loss
values are assumed to be according to the market to market pricing, no trading and normal market
which contributes in this risk valued portfolio. The risk managementof Value at Riskis done by risk
managers which are responsible for measuring and controlling the risk levels that are present in an
organization. Considering the modern portfolio theory, the third constituent of portfolio is amount
of investment which then creates a mean variance framework risk. This framework risk is defined
in terms of possible variation in the expected portfolio which will describe the risk value loss in
financial assets of an economic organization.
The Value at Risk framework and management help an organization in analyzing the risk loss in the
financial resources, which increase its use in many businesses, organizations and institutions.
(Hassan, 2009) The organization use this VAR framework in analyzing the potential losses in many
risk management ideas which include stress testing, backtesting, expected shortfall, tail conditional
expectation and economic capital. These are the few important ideas that have been

How Children View Apologies
Apologies are very important and quite powerful in societies. People vary in how they view
apologies, specifically, children compared to adults. Children and adults are very different
considering their emotional development and it plays a large role in how they view apologies.
Previous research on apologies targeted adults, so there is not much known on how children view
them. This is why Smith, Chen, and Harris (2010) conducted a study focusing on how children
view apologies on an emotional level. The two emotional functions they studied was how a
transgressor expressed their remorse and the victim s alleviation of upset feelings after a moral
transgression took place.

(2010) formulated many hypotheses which were the starting point in discovering the missing
information on this subject. They were first concerned with what the children s attributions would
be like to the transgressor, depending on whether they apologized or not. A study, that did not
involve an apology, was done by Nunner Winkler Sodian (1988) where they had discovered that 4
year olds attributed positive emotions while 8 year olds were more likely to attribute negative
feelings. Smith et al. (2010) used the data from this happy victimizer study into consideration when
formulating their own hypothesis. They expected that when there was no apology given, young
children would attribute positive feelings, but older children would attribute mixed feelings. They
came to this assumption for the younger children because they focus mainly on whether the
transgressor fulfilled their desire or not. So, if they did fulfill it, they would attribute positive
feelings. Which follows the happy victimizer expectancy. Although Nunner Winkler Sodian (1998)
found that older children attribute negative feelings, they expected them to attribute mixed feelings
for several reasons. Firstly, Arsenio Kramer (1992) found 6 to 8 year olds to have mixed feelings;
secondly, Nunner Winkler Sodain (1998) claim that older children focus on the feelings of the
transgressor about causing upset or harm when attributing emotions. Also, they believed the happy
victimizer expectancy would

Essay about Small Change
Small Change What determines a movement? Malcolm Gladwell defines what pushes a
movement to make a difference. He analyzes the concept of strong ties and weak ties and how
these relationships affect an individual s willpower and determination to help a cause. Gregory
Orr puts these ideas into context in his memoir, Return to Hayneville , in which he recounts his
experience and involvement in the civil rights movement of the 1960s. Malcolm Gladwell s Small

Orr s experience helped him learn about himself and primarily helps an individual discover the
importance of living. Gladwell would classify Orr as someone who shared no relationship with
the cause and only joined because because he wanted to find himself in the midst of chaos not
necessarily because he was passionate about the civil rights movement. Gladwell describes the
movement of sit ins across the south as a fever . Orr found himself caught up in the contagion,
he endured the beatings and the injustice the same as everyone else but his motives were not set
for civil rights, he realized this when he was taken and held captive, Even as I sank into
depression and brooded in the stifling heat of that jail barn, I was learning that I wanted to live,
(Orr, 223). When he was released Orr left without alerting the COFO office because he felt
ashamed. It was easy for him to walk away from the cause for him to walk away from the cause
because he as he left he wasn t leaving anything or anyone behind. Gladwell s explains that weak
ties seldom lead to high risk activism (Gladwell, 137). In Gregory Orr s essay, Return to
Hayneville , published by The Virginia Quarterly Review, Orr revisited the place of his abduction
by armed vigilantes in Alabama as a Civil Rights worker in 1965. Even though the events of this
essay take place in 1965, for Orr it started with the death of his younger brother in a hunting

William Shakespeare s Macbeth And Henry Iv
Shakespeare s plays Macbeth and Henry IV Part One are both plays that are wrought with the notion
of destiny. The journeys that Macbeth and Hal undertake throughout these plays are contrastingly
different and each play takes on a different perspective of destiny. In Macbeth destiny is attempted
to be controlled by Macbethhimself whereas Hal has a destinythat he was born into, a destiny to be
king. Both are portrayed differently in different spheres of their society this will be explored further
in the examples below.
Firstly, language is the first indication of differences in both of these plays. Shakespeare is very
good at writing and distinguishing different social classes using different language techniques
and manners of expression. In Henry IV this is shown through Hals learning of a gruff and more
common language through the bartender, in many ways this ability to shift between a language
that the nobility would use and one that the commoners would use aids Hal through his destiny.
He is able to befriend the bartender and these commoners hence he gains the trust of his people,
which is an integral part of his plan to win back is honour as a prince and the loyalty of his
father. Furthermore Hal changes his diction when he declares his loyalty to his father and his king
showing his ability to once again use his diverse language skills to gain the power and honour he
truly wanted. In contrast the language in Macbeth is specifically used to create imagery, specifically

The City Of Ember Doon A Dynamic Character

character. At the beginning of the book, the character is (Confidant)eventually, the character

through Doons actions, dialogue, relationships, choices, and problems.
This character connects to the world alone because there are alot of people like Doon,I say that

I have learned that Doon is confident about getting out of Ember and fixing the generator
through his choices and this tells me alot about Doons personality and that Doon believes in
himself. The first example to show that Doon is confidant is he was happy that Lina traded jobs
and he got the pipe works as a job.One of the main reason why Doon wanted the pipe works as a
job mainly was confident he could fix the generator. The second example to show that Doon was
confidant is when he went to work the main thing that he thought about was the generator and also
most of the time all he tried just try to figure out how to fix the generator. Then the last example is

having a hard time understanding what she was trying to say. They also have to learn about the
laws of that land because the stuff they use to do in their homeland could be wrong in their new
land. For example, if you hit your child hard enough to leave a mark its called child abuse.
Besides that, they have to learn how to drive and register for school. The child also gets to learn

Coming Of Age In Literature
The human experience of coming of age and finding oneself has been prevalent in literature
throughout time. Jane Eyre and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man are two widely known
books from different time eras that depict the coming of age of two intelligent individuals, and
parallel in terms of characterization of the protagonist and the conflicts in the plot. The fact that two
stories can become so famous during different periods of time truly shows that coming of ageis an
experience that is shared across all of time.
The overall plot construction of the two books are very similar and follow each other closely
overall. Both books begin with their early childhood, leads into their school age lives, and then goes
into them leaving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One smaller but very specific event that happened to both of them happened during their time at
school. They both experienced a very unfair form of punishment in that it was something that they
did not do and they were embarrassed in front of their whole class in the process. In A Portrait of
the Artist as a Young Man, Stephen gets in trouble for breaking his glasses accidentally and his
hand was physically harmed because of it. In Jane Eyre, Mr. Brocklehurst recounts what her aunt
falsely said about her in front of her class due to her breaking a slate on accident. Although they
were young, they both were upset by the injustices, so they took it up with people in positions of
authority at their schools, who realized what really happened and reassured them that they
should not have gotten embarrassed in front of the entire class in the first place. In Jane Eyre,
Miss Temple told Jane Well now, Jane, you know, or at least, I will tell you, that when a criminal
is accused, he is always allowed to speak in his own defence. You have been charged with
falsehood; defend yourself to me as well as you can. Say whatever your memory suggests as
true; but add nothing and exaggerate nothing. (BrontГ« 71). This statement truly resonated with
Jane Eyre, as she took those words to heart to describe her side of the story at the time, but also
did stay with her in the future. She had never been able to properly defend and explain herself
before, and this was a new skill she learned with this event. These scenes truly parallel each other in
what happened and in what it says about the protagonist s character developments: that both
characters are creating minds of their own and are realizing their ideals in the

The World Of The Desert Tribes
While almost all other cultures changed from embryonic to democratic societies, one culture
managed to keep even its most brutal and backward traditions and values for 1,800 years. Still to
this day, majority of Muslims prefer to live by values that can be traced all the way back to the
desert tribes in which the prophets originated from. Living as an American Muslim and coming
from a Bangladeshi background have instilled in me perspectives that differ from others. Growing
up in America, my parents have tried to keep my religion and culture strong. We live in an era in
which the nature, function, and structure of the family have been thrown into question. Many, for
example, would consider an unmarried couple, a single mother, and... Show more content on

My grandfather and my dad moved to the states in 1986. Where my father got a job as a

back to Bangladesh to bring the rest of the family, but instead of coming back to the states with
the rest of his family he made a stop in Mecca to finish his pilgrimage. While performing his last
pillar of being a Sunni Muslim he passed away. The word Sunni in Arabic comes from a word
meaning one who follows the traditions of the Prophet (Huda). This refers to the claims and process
of prophet Muhammad as recorded in Quran. The Quran holds prophet Muhammad s tacit approval
or criticism of statements or actions that occurred during his lifetime. Sunni Muslims follow the
five pillars of Islam, which are Shahada, Salat, Zakat, Sawm and Hajj. Shahada means you only
believe in one god, which is Allah and prophet Muhammad is Allah messenger. Salat means you
have to pray a distinct five times a day that changes according to the lunar cycle. The five prayer
times are Fajr (dawn), Dhuhr (noon), Asr (afternoon), Maghrib (evening), and Isha (night). Zakat
means giving back to the community or mostly to the poor. Sawm means the process of fasting

Energy and Material Use in Semiconductor Devices
2 Articles The 1.7 Kilogram Microchip: Energy and Material Use in The Production of
Semiconductor Devices, E. D. Williams, R.U. Ayres Summary Kilogram microchip implants
that track people s movements or allow shoppers to purchase groceries with the wave of a finger
may soon be more than science fiction: One scientist is working to make them part of everyday
reality. The computer that controls the environment in Warwick s office recognizes his presence
because the implant a glass capsule 23 millimeters long containing kilogram microchips sends a
unique signal. The computer can then adjust the lights and heat to Warwick s pre set
preferences. The key to implants usefulness is that unique signal, which many speculate could
be used as a cross between a social security number and a PIN, allowing computers in your home,
workplace, car, grocery store, and hospital to recognize you. You wouldn t have to worry about
losing your keys again: Your car and your house would automatically admit you. (Of course, if
the implant broke or the computers went down, you d face the high tech equivalent of losing
your keys.) At the bank or grocery store, implantees could transfer funds or buy provisions
without ever having to reach for a wallet or purse. Such implants might tempt criminals to attack
individuals and forcibly remove the implants in order to steal a person s identity or access his
bank account. However, implants could be designed to give off a distress signal if they were

On Education and Education Technology Essay
eLearning software is a collection of web based software that allows students to view information
related to their coursework and submit assignments to their professors. Some of this online
education software also allows for additional collaboration and learning tools. eLearning software is
becoming increasingly important, and is nearly essential for modern educationin the digital age.
However, this technology is largely unrefined and as such, has problems; problems that can be
overcome.
Since the popularity and ubiquity of the internet, eLearning software has become relatively
commonplace in the education world. An eLearning platform can be found in use at almost every
major school around the world. Primary and secondary schools are ... Show more content on

Each has significantly different user interfaces and feature sets, as well as strengths and
weaknesses. No software is perfect, but some are clearly better than others. eCollege is one such
service. Provided by Pearson, eCollege provides a platform that is easy to manage and navigate,
though perhaps not very feature rich. eCollege offers a place for professors to manage their
individual classes resources, providing a grade book, testing, a breakdown of section information,
threaded discussion, and some document sharing ability. eCollege is somewhat lacking in the areas
of speed, browser compatibility, and communication function.
For example, eCollege lacks any sort of notification system, so that any announcements from the
professor, replies to threaded discussions, or approaching deadlines are in no way reported to the
students or faculty. This is a very common feature not just in other eLearning technologies, but
for web technologies in general. eCollege also is considerably far behind its competition in terms
of pleasing user interface. The design paradigms are reminiscent of the web as of 1998, and the
fonts are by default set to be far too small to be readable on high resolution screens. Lastly,
eCollege has nothing in the way of student collaboration, requiring external services or solutions to
be used for group activities.
Its competition, Blackboard, is probably the largest and most

posing with their variety of guns. On the day of the execution, he formally shook hands with the
hangman and he smiled broadly at the sheriff. Charlie was offered morphine before he was
hanged, but shockingly he refused the offer ( Birger para. 4 7). Charlie Birger cultivated his
own legend and he knew that in seventy to eighty years he would become a legend. Little boys
in his town still like the gallows. In his town, he is still considered a folk hero. Some people may
even describe him a tommy gun toting Robin Hood. Miraculously, he managed to sweet talk the
authorities into letting him bring his machine gun with him ( Birger para. 8 10). Before he was
executed along time ago, a rival gang took dynamite and blew up his Shady Rest cabin and, the
cabin no longer exist on Route 13 between Harrisburg and Marion where it used to lay. People
like to say it was the first aerial bombing in this country but it wasn t. Charlie Birger died at age
forty eight but he looked a lot younger (Birger para. 8 10). Author Gary DeNeal researched
Charlie Birger and his gang. Mr. DeNeal states that Charlie and his gang fit right into a violent
era of Illinois. In that violent era, there were the mine wars and KKK were involved. Gary DeNeal
recreates an era of armored cars, machine guns, and homemade explosives (Birger para. 11 12).

Myths And The Reason Behind Mythology
WHAT ARE MYTHS AND THE REASON BEHIND MYTHOLOGY? Mythos, the Greek word for
myth means story, appertain to colorful tales that enlightens about the origins of humans and the
universe. Myths, as amazing as it sounds, is also a cause for birth of new religions, where and how
they originated. Many cultures have myths about how the gods and goddesses came to be, even
elucidating the origin of humanity and its traditions. Even ideas about how this world of ours came
to existence have many myths, creation myths behind it, disparate in every culture and society,
which demonstrates a view on its role in the world. Mythology is simply the study of the myth.
There are many psychological theories and meanings that explicate mythology. The most recurrent
belief about the psychological value of myth is that myths emblematize contrasting elements of our
own psyches or souls. The psychoanalytical frames of reference on myths have indisputably been
ineluctable. Myths were and still are progressively seen as expressions of desideratum in the human
psyche. But the big question is, what is the beneficence of mythology towards the amelioration of
society? If there are myths to decipher or exhibit certain things, character or situations, there also
are science and technology, which accommodate every explanation needed to understand each of
those things. Many go to science for such interpretation, which conveys the impression of taking
care of the signification behind all those natural phenomena,

Neil Postman The End Of Education Summary
Introduction:
Education in today s day in age has evolved to become an intricate system of developing
individual knowledge on social values and academic knowledge in the context of a technologically
advanced global society.
Neil Postman in his book, The End of Education, argues that the educational crisis is complex and
that the technical problem of building academic skills is just a scratch in the surface. Postman
believed that schools focused more on teaching economic utility, consumerism, multiculturalism and
technology. Postman (1995) also claims that schools in their methods and practices do not
necessarily help students in preparing for economic life and that there was no evidence that a
quality schooling experience could be associated with positive economic productivity (p.28).
Moreover, Postman claims that the value of group cohesion and connectivity with peers is lost with
the individualization of computer learning (1995, p.45). Postman believed that learning to accept
the world with all its cultural rules, requirements, constraints, and even prejudices; is one of the two
things schools must be teaching. The second being, students developing skills to be critical
thinkers, which in turn makes them rational, independent minded and problem solving adults
(1995, p.60). Postman s views were that education with technology is teaching about how
technology assists and restricts students in doing positive or negative things, how education was
dealt with in the

Essay on Images of Women in Sports
Images of Women in Sports
Over the years the perception of women in sport has changed considerably. In this course we have
viewed several films all dealing with the depiction of female athletes in an attempt to gauge society
s current perception of women in sport. I will briefly summarize each film and the main themes of
the films before providing a description of the female athlete which I will infer from commonalities
between the films.
The first film we watched was a documentary entitled, Dare to Compete; it provided a brief history
of women in film, focusing primarily on American women in sport from the late 19th century to the
present. From this film we gained a notion of where women have been and how far we ve come in

The third film we watched was, Remember the Titans. Remember the Titans, traces the racial
integration of a Virginian high school football team in the 1960 s as well as the racial integration
of the high school. While this film is about a male football team and women are minor characters
within the film it shows how sport can unite people from different racial and socioeconomic
backgrounds
The fourth film we watched was, Girlfight; a film about a Latina who lives in the ghetto and
becomes a boxer. The protagonist s struggle to be taken seriously as a female boxer, to find
people who will train her and compete with her is one of the major themes of this film. However,
this film examines not only the protagonist s role as an athlete, but her home life, love interest and
inner turmoil as she learns to control and focus her aggressive personality.
The fifth and final film we watched was, Love and Basketball, a film that primarily traces the
coming of age of a man and a woman, two childhood friends and basketball fanatics who both
pursue professional careers in basketball while focusing primarily on the female protagonist. The
main conflict in this film had less to do with the female protagonist struggling for approval from
her parents and acceptance by society than any of the other films we ve seen in this class. Instead,
it dealt with the female protagonist s need to evaluate her priorities and decide what she wanted
and how to divide

Pink Ribbon Clogs
Breast Cancer Action (BCA) coined the term pink washing as part of their Think Before You
PinkВ® campaign. According to BCA a pink washer is a company or organization that claims to
care about breast cancer by promoting a pink ribbon product, but at the same time produces,
manufactures and/or sells products that are linked to the disease.
These companies all give themselves a pat on the back for spreading awareness, but all the while
they are really just profiting off of breast cancer.
Example one: In 2010, Dansko Shoe Company sold pink ribbon clogs. Consumers likely thought
that a portion of their purchase of pink ribbon clogs went to a breast cancer program. However,
purchase of the pink ribbon clogs was not connected to Dansko s donation none of the portion of
the sales went toward their already set donation of $25,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. No
matter whether or not you bought the clogs, their donation was the same.
Example two: In 2010, Reebok marketed a line of pink ribbon emblazoned footwear and apparel
at prices ranging from$50 to $100. Though it heavily promoted the fact that some of their pink
ribbon product sales would be donated to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, they set a limit of
$750,000, regardless of how many items were sold, and there was no mechanism in place to alert
consumers once the maximum donation had been met. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe everyone at a time in life want to reach out and help give back to the community and
really make a positive impact. Raising awareness for a new and unknown disease would help the
diseases and keep people educated on it.
When cancer was first discovered raising awareness was the best way to inform people about it
and the dangers it entails. Companies first started to use the pink ribbon which represents breast
cancer awareness on their merchandise, to help raise awareness and in hopes of making money for
the breast cancer movement. When a company says they are donating a portion of the money to
the breast cancer organization (Susan G. Komen for the Cure), people that want to give back to
their community see it has a good way to start making an impact. Hence, they end up either
purchasing a merchandise they want that has a pink ribbon or just buying any merchandise that has
a pink ribbon, knowing the profit is going to

Nucleus Function
Function
The function of a nucleus includes holding the DNA and RNA for the cell. The RNA plays an
important role in making proteins. The RNA also configures amino acids into special proteins for
the cell to use. The nucleus also makes exact copies of it s DNA
Structure
The nucleus has many parts to its structure; nuclear envelope, nucleolus, chromatin, pores, and
ribosomes. The nuclear envelope is made of two membranes, inner membrane and outer membrane.
It is designed to protect the nucleus. It keeps the special molecules in the nucleus from getting out.
The nucleolus is a structure in the nucleus that makes ribosomes and RNA. Chromatin are made of
proteins and DNA. They organize into chromosomes before cell division. Pores are channels that
go through the nuclear envelope. They allow the messenger RNA out of the nucleus and keep the
DNA from getting out. Ribosomes are made within the nucleus and sent out to produce protein.
They all work together to protect the nucleus and keep the cell functioning property. ... Show more

minutes on Thursday March 16th, 2017. On Monday, Lou was involved in a lot of different
activities with her classmates because it was play time. When I first walked into the classroom she

Presently, service members are not permitted to strike for PR due to safety concerns. • 3. Legalization Of Steroids In Sports high intensity physical competition would be monstrous for the opposing team, giving the player the advantage of fear and discretion on the playing field. The use of steroids also increases endurance in the muscles of those who take them. This may be the single biggest reason that steroids give an unfair advantage in a competitive setting. Since steroids can increase endurance levels multiple times, athletes find it easier to run faster and improve their performance in sports, ( Steroids in Sports. ). Steroids are used to enhance endurance for many reasons. First, increased muscle endurance makes for much more intense training. An athlete on the juice can train harder and longer than any natural athlete, causing unfairness in preparation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an article published by Anthony Roberts, he describes the disadvantages of having undesirable genetics and others having desirable genetics. He goes as far as to say, I d much rather see athletes compete on an even genetic ground (even if it is evened up by performance enhancing drugs), ( Anabolic Steroids: Leveling the Playing Field? ). This statement is absurd due to all of the advantages steroid use gives an athlete. In his article he explains that someone with elite genetics will respond better to training and growth, and though this is true, this cannot simply be evened up with the use of anabolics. Even with the best of genetics, the human body can only achieve so much before it reaches its natural limits. The use of steroids gives the human body the ability to surpass this natural limit significantly even with the worst of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Recording Studio At The Age Of 21 Recording studio the main aim of this business is to offer an affordable practice space and recording studio to young bands and older more established ones as well. I also plan to have a student discount for bands under the age of 21, perhaps a 10% discount. The focus of the business would be mainly on practice space containing high end equipment including brands like marshal and Ashdown; however a large amount of effort and resources will be used creating a small, elite studio recording space with single instrument/vocal pods, 2/3, an eight foot drum recording room, and one large full band room with sufficient mid high end microphones. In this screen shot you can see that there is only one other studio space in Harrogate, and after looking at the website, all I can tell is that they are a recording studio in Harrogate, they say nothing about pricing, availability or much else. This would imply they don t get much business as they aren t trying very hard to advertise. Though this could imply that the lack of effort is due to a lack of interest, I believe there is definitely enough demand in the Harrogate area, and it only leaves more room in the Harrogate market for my business to occupy. I think that this business will require a location that is enough distance from the city centre so not to disturb other businesses and flats, as when bands are playing music, maybe more than one at a time, a substantial amount of noise pollution will be created. The former involved manufacturing operations with several departments, each of which produced particular components whereas the latter being a flow operation where multiple stations can work simultaneously. • 9. Fate vs Free Will in Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare The hubris of rich, powerful, or politically connected men creates a false sense of security that often leads to their fate being a horrific downfall. Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare exposes the conflicting ideas that exist between fate and free will by showing the relationship between Caesar, Brutus, and their wives, and how the decisions Cassius makes effect his fate. Conflicting ideas existed between the spouses and as well as the decisions Cassius make and how they affect him. Fate gives Brutus a chance to change his decision that he made of his own free will about killing Caesar by having Portia, who is Brutus s wife, encourage him to change his mind. First, Portia gives Brutus a sign of fate by revealing that when the men left her house they hid their faces even from darkness (II, i, 905). Brutus decides to ignore Portia s warning about men who hide their faces, which is one of the events that leads up to Brutus s, and also Portia s suicidal act of [swallowing] hot coals , fated suicide (Salem Press). Next, Portia reminds Brutus that she is not weak because she is well reputed and a woman that Brutus saw fit to marry (II, i, 923). Even knowing and being sufficiently reminded that Portia is not of lesser intelligence than he is; Brutus still continues on with his decision to betray Caesar. Also, Portia reminds Brutus that he can trust her to help him make the right decision and that she will not disclose his secrets to others (II, i, 926). Brutus at this ... When the cells finally began growing in Gey s lab it was seen as a huge advance in the world of science, seeing as no one had succeeded beforehand, this was a great accomplishment on his part. However, Henrietta was never told of this or how important her cells had become, she simply continued living without knowing that the cancerous cells inside her were continuing to grow despite receiving treatment from the doctors. • 11. Comparing Congeniality And My Fair Lady As a wise woman often says, There s nothing new under the sun when it comes to literature. This means that nearly all works written or produced currently have been procured from previously written stories, though not always intentional. This process is known as intertextualization, which is clearly noted in the 2000 film Miss Congeniality, derived from the 1964 film My Fair Lady. Intertextuality has been woven into this movie through similar archetypes, role reversals, and dГ©nouments. In My Fair Lady, Professor Higgins displays the archetype of a teacher, just as Victor Melling from Miss Congeniality does. Both of these characters are teaching the leading, female actresses how to become more proper and lady like. Henry Higgins transforms Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl, into a duchess by teaching her proper english. In the same way, Victor converts Gracie Hart, a masculine FBI agent from New Jersey, into a scholarship program queen. The teacher archetype is an important component to the intertextuality... They were mostly young men and boys escaping poverty by sailing towards the bright light of America. Some came to avoid the compulsory three year military service in the Greek army where a peasant youth could seldom rise above a menial. A great many came from those parts of Greece still under Ottoman domination which conscripted Greek youths into the dreaded Turkish infantry. Genetic Transformation Of Genetic Dna Genetic transformation occurs when an organism s genetic makeup is altered due to the introduction of new genetic information which is then incorporated into the organism s genome. In this lab the pGLO plasmid is introduced into E. Coli bacteria, and incorporates the genes which code for the GFP and beta lactamase to the bacterias genome which as a result will be modified. To test the effects of the plasmid, bacteria treated with the plasmid were grown on separate plates, the first containing LB nutrient broth and ampicillin, another containing LB nutrient broth and arabinose and another containing LB nutrient broth, ampicillin and arabinose. Two more plates were grown, one with LB nutrient broth and ampicillin and the other with only the LB broth, using cells that did not contain the plasmid. Since the lab was about genetic transformation, the goal was to find which plate would glow. It was found that the plates that were not exposed to the plasmid did not glow, and the plates containing LB and arabinose and LB, ampicillin and arabinose did glow. The plates containing ampicillin, the antibiotic that kills E. coli did not grow whereas the remaining plates at least had some growth. Tone is very important in poetry as it plays a role in the way the characters within the poem are portrayed, the way we perceive the writers intentions and it sets the mood when reading the poem. This can clearly be seen with mother in a refugee camp as the poem overall has a very hopeless and harsh tone and this can be seen when the narrator of the poem say, She soon would have to forget in the context that the death of the child is inevitable and they are hopeless as they cannot defy destiny. The pleading tone can be seen in the poem when Dylan Thomas says, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. This comes as plea to his dad to fight death and not give in and this also emphasizes Dylan Thomas s desperation for his father to wake up and not give in. On the other hand with Remember the tone develops as you go through the poem and it goes from a commanding tone to one that is accepting towards the end and this can be seen when Christina Rossetti says, Better by far you should forget and smile than that you should remember and be sad. This shows us that the character actually cares about the feelings of the person that loves her as she would rather that they forget and be happy than for them to remember and be sad. This development of tone comes as a natural due to the fact that the nature of the poem is a sonnet. Sonnets tend to convey a problem in the first octave and find the solution to that problem in the last sestet and this can clearly be seen in remember as she is telling them to remember but then she realizes that she cannot hold on to them forever and actually sets them free. He aims at being in touch with the natives, (Malinoski, 8) but describes the people as savages and explains that ethnology has introduced law and order into what seemed chaotic and freakish. It has transformed for us the sensational, wild and unaccountable world of savages into a number of well ordered communities, governed by law, behaving and thinking according to consistent principles (Malinowski, 9 10). He is essentially contradicting himself, saying that he both strives to be in touch with the natives in order to give a full understanding of their lives, while conducting his research with a superior attitude, which denies any chances of being authentically in touch. • 28. Lab Report On The Mass Of Actual Aspirin ( Acetylsalicylic... Abstract: This experiment utilizes skills of titration in order to find the percent mass of actual aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) in store bought aspirin. Two steps and two kinds of titrations are used. First, approximately 0.1 M NaOH solution was standardized using titration with KHP. KHP was used because it does not absorb moisture when it is stored, and it is soluble in water. The reaction that takes place in this reaction is a 1:1 mole ratio reaction. The titrationdetermines the volume of NaOH solution needed to completely react with the known amount of KHP. This makes the calculation of molarity of NaOH solution fairly easy. The average molarity calculated was 0.09897 M. The final part of the experiment is a titration to indicate the amount of acetylsalicylic acid present in approximately 0.5 g of store bought aspirin. The volume of 0.09897 M NaOH solution indicated the moles of NaOH that reacted with the aspirin. The reaction between NaOH and acetylsalicylic acid is a 1:1 mole ratio reaction. The calculated mass of acetylsalicylic acid was 0.3963g. This was divided by the initial amount of aspirin measured (0.4976g), and multiplied by 100 to give the percent mass. This value is 79.66%. This particular experiment may not be very accurate. Specifically, only two standardization trials were counted. This may cause a less accurate measurement of NaOH solution molarity, ultimately leading to an inaccurate percent mass of acetylsalicylic acid. Introduction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Value At Risk And Risk Management Value at Risk Framework or VAR framework is mainly used for financial risk management or financial mathematics in measuring the risk element on a definite portfolio of financial assets, present in any economic organization. This particular portfolio comprises of time event and probability, which states the threshold of the riskloss value over the period of time. These risk loss values are assumed to be according to the market to market pricing, no trading and normal market which contributes in this risk valued portfolio. • 33. How Children View Apologies Apologies are very important and quite powerful in societies. People vary in how they view apologies, specifically, children compared to adults. Children and adults are very different considering their emotional development and it plays a large role in how they view apologies. Previous research on apologies targeted adults, so there is not much known on how children view them. This is why Smith, Chen, and Harris (2010) conducted a study focusing on how children view apologies on an emotional level. The two emotional functions they studied was how a transgressor expressed their remorse and the victim s alleviation of upset feelings after a moral transgression took place. Smetana (1981) defined a moral transgression as, a transgression involving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (2010) formulated many hypotheses which were the starting point in discovering the missing information on this subject. They were first concerned with what the children s attributions would be like to the transgressor, depending on whether they apologized or not. A study, that did not involve an apology, was done by Nunner Winkler Sodian (1988) where they had discovered that 4 year olds attributed positive emotions while 8 year olds were more likely to attribute negative feelings. Smith et al. (2010) used the data from this happy victimizer study into consideration when formulating their own hypothesis. They expected that when there was no apology given, young children would attribute positive feelings, but older children would attribute mixed feelings. They came to this assumption for the younger children because they focus mainly on whether the transgressor fulfilled their desire or not. So, if they did fulfill it, they would attribute positive feelings. Which follows the happy victimizer expectancy. Although Nunner Winkler Sodian (1998) found that older children attribute negative feelings, they expected them to attribute mixed feelings for several reasons. Firstly, Arsenio Kramer (1992) found 6 to 8 year olds to have mixed feelings; secondly, Nunner Winkler Sodain (1998) claim that older children focus on the feelings of the transgressor about causing upset or harm when attributing emotions. Orr s experience helped him learn about himself and primarily helps an individual discover the importance of living. Gladwell describes the movement of sit ins across the south as a fever . Orr found himself caught up in the contagion, he endured the beatings and the injustice the same as everyone else but his motives were not set for civil rights, he realized this when he was taken and held captive, Even as I sank into depression and brooded in the stifling heat of that jail barn, I was learning that I wanted to live, (Orr, 223). The journeys that Macbeth and Hal undertake throughout these plays are contrastingly different and each play takes on a different perspective of destiny. In Macbeth destiny is attempted to be controlled by Macbethhimself whereas Hal has a destinythat he was born into, a destiny to be king. Both are portrayed differently in different spheres of their society this will be explored further in the examples below. Firstly, language is the first indication of differences in both of these plays. Shakespeare is very good at writing and distinguishing different social classes using different language techniques and manners of expression. In Henry IV this is shown through Hals learning of a gruff and more common language through the bartender, in many ways this ability to shift between a language that the nobility would use and one that the commoners would use aids Hal through his destiny. He is able to befriend the bartender and these commoners hence he gains the trust of his people, which is an integral part of his plan to win back is honour as a prince and the loyalty of his father. Furthermore Hal changes his diction when he declares his loyalty to his father and his king showing his ability to once again use his diverse language skills to gain the power and honour he truly wanted. In Jane Eyre, Mr. Brocklehurst recounts what her aunt falsely said about her in front of her class due to her breaking a slate on accident. Although they were young, they both were upset by the injustices, so they took it up with people in positions of authority at their schools, who realized what really happened and reassured them that they should not have gotten embarrassed in front of the entire class in the first place. • 47. Neil Postman The End Of Education Summary Introduction: Education in today s day in age has evolved to become an intricate system of developing individual knowledge on social values and academic knowledge in the context of a technologically advanced global society. Neil Postman in his book, The End of Education, argues that the educational crisis is complex and that the technical problem of building academic skills is just a scratch in the surface. Postman believed that schools focused more on teaching economic utility, consumerism, multiculturalism and technology. Postman (1995) also claims that schools in their methods and practices do not necessarily help students in preparing for economic life and that there was no evidence that a quality schooling experience could be associated with positive economic productivity (p.28). Moreover, Postman claims that the value of group cohesion and connectivity with peers is lost with the individualization of computer learning (1995, p.45). Postman believed that learning to accept the world with all its cultural rules, requirements, constraints, and even prejudices; is one of the two things schools must be teaching. The second being, students developing skills to be critical thinkers, which in turn makes them rational, independent minded and problem solving adults (1995, p.60). According to BCA a pink washer is a company or organization that claims to care about breast cancer by promoting a pink ribbon product, but at the same time produces, manufactures and/or sells products that are linked to the disease. These companies all give themselves a pat on the back for spreading awareness, but all the while they are really just profiting off of breast cancer. Example one: In 2010, Dansko Shoe Company sold pink ribbon clogs. Consumers likely thought that a portion of their purchase of pink ribbon clogs went to a breast cancer program. However, purchase of the pink ribbon clogs was not connected to Dansko s donation none of the portion of the sales went toward their already set donation of $25,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. No matter whether or not you bought the clogs, their donation was the same. Example two: In 2010, Reebok marketed a line of pink ribbon emblazoned footwear and apparel at prices ranging from$50 to $100. Though it heavily promoted the fact that some of their pink ribbon product sales would be donated to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, they set a limit of $750,000, regardless of how many items were sold, and there was no mechanism in place to alert consumers once the maximum donation had been met. ... The nucleus also makes exact copies of it s DNA Structure The nucleus has many parts to its structure; nuclear envelope, nucleolus, chromatin, pores, and ribosomes. The nuclear envelope is made of two membranes, inner membrane and outer membrane. It is designed to protect the nucleus. It keeps the special molecules in the nucleus from getting out. The nucleolus is a structure in the nucleus that makes ribosomes and RNA. Chromatin are made of proteins and DNA. They organize into chromosomes before cell division. Pores are channels that go through the nuclear envelope. They allow the messenger RNA out of the nucleus and keep the DNA from getting out. Ribosomes are made within the nucleus and sent out to produce protein. They all work together to protect the nucleus and keep the cell functioning property. ... • 52. Examples Of Focus Observation Part A: Focused Observation 1.Student# 1 Lou (typical) Context I observed Lou for about twenty minutes on Monday, March 13th, 2017 and about forty five minutes on Thursday March 16th, 2017. On Monday, Lou was involved in a lot of different activities with her classmates because it was play time. When I first walked into the classroom she was playing with the dollhouse with two other classmates. As I was sitting at the table with Sam to find out what she was making Lou told me about the new student they have in the classroom, her name, and how she is unable to speak English, but can understand it. After Lou told me about the new student she started playing cars with her. On Thursday, I came to observe Lou and Sam play the math game and complete the math worksheets I brought with me. Before they could participate in the activities I brought they had to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On Monday, when I came into the classroom, I sat with Sam so I could observe what she was doing and still be able to look across the room and observe Lou. For majority of my visit on Monday, Sam created a picture using glue, paper, and green and gold shamrocks. On Thursday, Sam was engaged in clean up and after clean up, Sam and Lou joined me to do the math activities I brought. Both days seemed to be a typical day. Preparations For both students, I prepared for this observation by researching the Ohio standards made for pre school children in math and social emotional development. I then printed work sheets and a math matching game age appropriate for Sam and Lou to complete. Social and Emotional development standards (www.education.ohio.gov) Recognize and identify own emotions and emotions of others Communicate a range of emotions and socially accepted ways Identify the diversity in human characteristics and how people are similar and ...
