Cajon Essay
Music instruments are one of the most influential characteristics that define music culture and how
it feels. Consequently, Spanish flamenco has unique feeling for its main music instruments: cajon,
guitar, voice, hands (AKA palmas), castanets, and dancers feet. Cajon
Cajon is a percussion instrument, typically a cuboid, introduced in flamenco music in 1970s (
Instruments of the World Cajon). Five sides of the cajon are made mainly of thick pine or other
white wood. The sixth side (striking surface) is made of plywood and it is named tapa and has a
sound hole cut on the opposite side ( Instruments of the World Cajon). Also usually modern cajons
have a lot of screws for adjusting the timbre. There are also other trapezoidal and tubular ... Show

A classic guitar is typically a flat bodied string instrument with long neck and six string typically
and tuning pegs played by a pick or with fingers. Guitars are firmly rooted in Spanish culture and
families (Cesarczyk). Spanish guitarist, or tocar, usually taps his fingers while playing and relies
heavily on spontaneity and improvisation resulting in an entertaining one man show ( Flamenco
Guitar ). Compared to classic guitar, the Spanish guitar is usually lighter and features smaller
dimensions, this results in sharper, and metallic timbre ( Flamenco Guitar ).

Development Of Aging Or Mid Life Crisis
There will come a time when one has to come to terms of aging or mid life crisis. According to
Weaver (2009) the major psychological changes occur in childhood. The author also noted that
Freud also mentioned that all stages of the psychosexual development are also completed in
early childhood (pp.69). Freud and Freud also had differences when it referred to coming of age
(Weaver, 2009). Jung saw mid life not as a crisis, but put the emphasis on growth and maturation
(pp.70). Most of the clients that Freudians seen were experiencing neurosis, this put a different
perspective on their adjustment to life, while Jung s patients were socially adaptable (Weaver,
2009). Jung did not see mid life crisis of balancing the self, social world with a deepening
meaning. Jung thought that people of mid life, were developed, one side, of their life, and now
lacks meaning (Weaver, 2009). Now the existentialist view was in contrast with the
psychodynamic view and believed that people in this stage of life gravitating towards meanings
and values (Frankl, 1967). This was evident of a study done in the 1960 at a Vienna Hospital; it
showed that 55% existential frustration and half expressed life are meaningless (Frankl, 1967).
Carl Rodgers had some similarities with Frankl s perspective on mid life crisis (pp.73). Rodgers
looked at it from a humanistic approach, while asking existential question such as; What is my
purpose? (pp. 73). Rodgers noted that the process of the coming of self is

Three D s Of Phobias
Different disorders mean different things. Some disorders can lead to others. There are many
phobias and different types of anxiety disorders, and they vary on how severe they are. Six million
people; about 26% of adult population and about 13% of children suffer from some kind of
disorder. Psychopathology is the patterns of thought, emotion, and behavior that are maladaptive,
disruptive, or uncomfortable either for the person affected or others.
Substance related disorders are the highest disorders a person may suffer. The three d s are what s

Gas Price Elasticity Essay examples
Gas Price Elasticity
The Energy Information Administration of the Department of Energy began tracking weekly
gasoline prices in 1990 by means of a survey of 800 service stations around the country. The
average retail price for unleaded gasoline posted its fourth record high during the week of June 12,
2000, increasing 5 cents a gallon to an average of $1.681. The price at the pump is higher than the
same period last year by 56 cents and has risen 16.2 cents over the past month (Anonymous, 2000).
How far will it rise? What will consumers do about the dramatic increases that are occurring with
the arrival of each shipment? Price elasticity of demand would indicate that demand will fall as
prices continue to rise, which in turn should result ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The oil producing nations in the Mideast currently are meeting to discuss increasing production so
that crude prices will decline from its current price of more than $30 a barrel to the region of $25
(Georgy, 2000).
The American Petroleum Institute reports that 32.6 percent of the final cost to the consumer is the
refiner s share that covers the cost of refining and provides the oil companies with their profit
(Brodrick, 2000a). The government s share is greater, however. quot;Taxes account for 37.4 percent
of gasoline costs and averaged 41.5 cents per gallon in 1999, according to the institute. The federal
government s share is 18.4 cents, and the state takes about 23 cents. Occasionally, local
municipalities tack on an extra tax quot; (Brodrick, 2000a; p. 000215b).
The price is further affected by locale. The Midwest typically is one of the highest priced regions in
the nation because it is the most difficult section for transportation. Distance from refineries is
prohibitive, and refineries are saying that the current high prices in the region have resulted from
problems with using a pipeline that eases transportation costs.
The retailer s price increase to the final consumer is between 4 and 8 cents a gallon, meaning that
there is little option for the consumer to shop on price. Further, consolidation has been active in oil
as in other industries. A different brand name does not signify that the gasoline is being sold by

Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Vs. Generic Brand
Everyone has his or her own personal preference towards buying generic or name brand products.
When shopping in a grocery store does the type of pasta really matter to you? How about the type
of macaroni and cheese you reach for? Same ingredients, same directions on how to mix and stir
up the final manufactured goods but is it really the same . To a lot of people it might not make a
difference, but like me, a lot of people prefer spending the extra 50 cents on a box of Kraft
Macaroni and Cheese and it s worth every penny. Is it the taste that you are paying for? Or maybe
it s the quality of the product that you re basing it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Kraft Company has been around for a long time now. Personally I believe you must have a
protective firm, not allowing other companies to steal your ideas and product. This will give the
firm advantage over others. Kraft Macaroni and Cheese is dominating the market with almost 1
million boxes sold a day. They have to keep up their revenue by attracting a new fan base. Shapes
and designs of pasta are surprisingly essential for Kraft. Over 2000 patents of shaped macaroni
and cheese have been officially signed for and used, only about 280 have been obtained by Kraft
Macaroni and Cheese. One of their biggest selling characters and patents is SpongeBob Square
Pants, a TV show that has been on air for about 12 years now. Kids thrive for the little macaroni
shapes of SpongeBob, Sandy, Patrick, and Mr. Crabs. When Kraft came out with these shapes they
couldn t produce enough of them for mom s and their kids. Sales rocketed through the roof and
Kraft Macaroni and Cheese monopolized the competition with this brand new shape that no one
else could use. Knowing exactly what to market at a specific time is huge when it comes to any
company that wants to be successful. This is what sets them apart from the rest and has given them
that extra economic profit. Macaroni shapes are not the only ingredients that set them apart from
the rest. Have you ever

Courier over Postal Service
QUESTION
EXPLAIN THE ADVANTAGES OF COURIER SERVICES OVER PUBLIC POSTAL SERVICES
A courier service is an organization which offers special deliveries of packages, money, documents
or information. Courier services usually boast faster delivery times than any alternative method of
transporting documents, and many services in the modern world rely on them. The idea of couriers
and a courier service has been around almost as long as civilization, with rulers in antiquity using
couriers as a means to make new laws and edicts known throughout their lands. In the modern age of

This is an excellent way for them to get their items delivered to their loved ones at home. Rather
than use slow mailing services, most tourists are now utilizing this type due to the reasons given
below. Basically, a courier is an agency that aids customers with their delivery packages, such as
money and documents, and provides a faster service. Those people who are always taking a tour
will be able to send postcards and even souvenirs back home no matter where they are. Tourists
also do not have to worry about payments since there are convenient ways to transfer money for
the service, such as automatic billing and online interfaces. More often than not, a courier
company also offers delivery guarantees, along with insurance on shipments and other perks,
making it an imperative part of every traveler s life. So, if you are a frequent holidaymaker, you
will enjoy great benefits from using this type of mailing service. You can be sure of secure
shipments and on time deliveries wherever you may be spending your vacation.
Easy and Convenient: What all you need to do in order to send a courier or parcel to any corner
of the world, is just to call a courier company. The company not only just picks up the parcel from
the desired location, but also makes arrangements for packing, loading and unloading. Unlike the
typical postal service, you don t need to visit any office to book your shipment. Further, you can

Survival Skills of the Fittest
You are on a plane in the middle of a war with twelve strangers and suddenly you wake up on a

you are, no one else knows either. Hope of rescue is slim. You and the others are scared. The
pilot is dead and there are no supplies in sight. What are you going to do? You could do nothing
and just wait to be rescued. Or, you could take responsibility for your fate and fight for your life.

Persuasive Essay On The Standard Of Beauty
When thirteen year old Alyssa looks into the mirror, she runs through a list of everything she

skinnier, my arms were more toned, and my waist was smaller. She looks into the mirror,
comparing her body to the bodies of her friends, celebrities and the images she sees in magazines.
Alyssa does not look like all those girls and this makes her feel gross, insecure and out of place.
Beauty standards are so high they create negative body images and women who hate the way they

The Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons, unlike the American s do not gather statistics, but
Canadian surgeons say they are seeing the same increase in plastic surgery among the millennial
youth (Thomas, 2015). The statistics on teenagers and plastic surgery are shocking, but this is not
surprising because teens are vulnerable to having issues with poor body image, and this results in
feeling like there is no other option other than plastic surgery. They want to look perfect and fit in
with society. Teens should not have to turn to operations to physically change their bodies just to fit
in with today s beauty standards.
High standards of beauty are causing girls to lose out on opportunities because they feel they
will be judged for the way they look and this leads to eating disorders, unhealthy diets and overall
poor health. In a world surrounded by celebrities and fashion models who look impossibly thin,
a message is sent to teens that they must look this way to be socially accepted. This message can
lead to unhealthy eating habits and self esteem issues. Approximately 75 percent of girls as
young as nine years old have dieted two to five times in a given year and at any given time, 5 to
10 million women and girls globally have eating disorders that harm their health (Flynt, 2009).
Teens all over the world, especially in Western society, are being diagnosed with eating disorder

History and Its Effects on the Future
History and Its Effects on The Future
According to definition, History is a narrative of events in the order in which they happened with
their causes and effects, a record of past events. Throughout history many events have further
evolved the human race, providing different ideas, policies, political laws and ways, and even
scientific advances that further pushed the boundaries of human life to where they are today. The
future is very much affected by the past and this is clearly present throughout the later Middle Ages
all the way to the 18th century. The achievements of this timeperiod in religion, exploration,
science, culture, and arts are some of the most important achievements throughout history. In the
1400s the demand for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was a very important time for religion and religious differences. When mentioning the
Reformation, an invention that changed history as it was known came about, the Printing Press.
Until the mid fifteenth century, the only way in the West to reproduce any kind of text was to
copy it laboriously by hand. This introduced errors or improved the original text as the writer
saw fit, thus two different copies of the same text could read differently. Two fifteenth century
inventions revolutionized the availability of books. First, movable metal type was introduced
around 1450, and after that time printed books first began to appear. Equally important, cheap
manufactured paper replaced expensive sheepskin. The introduction and spread of printing
throughout Europe made it much easier for peace to share their thoughts and discoveries with
others. The Printing press revolutionized books and text in history because it added a more
accurate way for writers, scientists, and just about anyone who writes to preserve their work in a
much more accurate form and add the ability to present their works to a broader audience. As you
can see the printing press was the start of something that is still used in today s society, as shown
by the ability to make copies and vast publishing. In the late 1500s and through most of the 1600s a
time called The Scientific Revolution came about in the European society. With this time came

Depression In Jane Kenyon s From The Nursery
Depression is a disease that millions of people, including myself live with every day and it can
be a shadow of our existence. It is easy to see why readers are drawn to certain poems such as
From The Nursery. Jane Kenyon s From The Nursery is the first segment of nine in a poem about
depression. When I began to dissect this poem, I learned more about myself and the poet with the
way she uses her linebreaks, her use of metaphors and images, style, and word choice. The analysis
doesn t begin with the actual poem but, instead, with the title itself. From The Nursery is the first
section. It is the beginning of a fight with depression that visits and consumes the speaker when she
is the most defenseless. The title is an image that that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It doesn t sew up any loose ends within the other stanzas and it shouldn t. This is just the first
section in an even bigger poem and in a life. It does, however, end with two metaphors and a
powerplay. Kenyon finally tells us point blank who you is if we didn t already know. It is the
anti urge, /the mutilator of souls. It is the thing that makes you not want to be motivated and that
makes you lay in bed all day because you just can t get up. It is the thing that ruins souls to the
point that they can never be the same again. Here is the only point of the poem that I do not agree
with Kenyon. While the metaphor is beautiful, I don t believe that our souls are mutilated. It is
quite the opposite. I believe that we, the people who battle depression, are stronger because of our
shadow. We have endured, been broken, have known hardship, and have lost ourselves at some
point. We still stand, still move forward, and grow stronger each

The Importance Of Uniforms In Schools
The first reason all public schools should have uniforms is because it helps reduce bullying.
There are many types of bullying such as verbal, social, and physical bullying. It can occur
anywhere, but most of the time, it happens in schools. This often leads to serious problems for
those who are being bullied. According to princetonsummerjournal.com, Students wearing popular
trends or expensive brands tend to pick on students who are not keeping up with these trends. For
instance, the case of Jasmine McClain a ten year old, who was bullied because of her clothes and
shoes. This bullying lead her to commit suicide. There have also been surveys that have shown that
thirty nine percent of the students who are being bullied is because of the clothes they are wearing
(princetonsummerjournal.com). The student s clothing usually mirrors their economic background,
and it shows that they can t keep up with the trend or buy those expensive, trendy clothes since
their parents can t afford it. If public schools were to establish uniforms for every student, then
they would be able to fit in because nobody would be considered different. Then students would
get along and just put their social class aside. Based on what one has read uniforms wouldn t just
reduce the number of students getting bullied, but it would be saving a life too.
The second reason all public schools should have uniforms is because it saves time. According to
procon.org, ...90% of US school leaders believe school uniform or formal dress code policies
eliminate wardrobe battles with kids, make it easier to get kids ready... It s important for students
to focus on other things and have time for them instead of worrying about the clothes they will
be wearing to school. Some students in the mornings carefully pick out their outfits, looking for
something nice to wear. They are wasting a lot of their time when they could ve slept in a couple
more minutes or eaten breakfast which, according to sfgate.com, is an important meal of the day
because it can improve one s grades, concentration, and just overall the student s school
performance. Uniforms would be taking away all the trouble of having to choose a certain kind of
clothing for school every day and

The State Run Regulatory System
The Insurance industry is very heavily state regulated. According to the Government Accountability
Office (GAO) study, the state run regulatory system is Federal verses State Regulation protecting
the markets, insurance industry and policy holders and was evidenced during the financial crisis of
2008 09. The insurancebusiness is highly profitable. Well run companies can make a lot of money,
which breeds competition from both inside and outside competitors (Property, 2013). Insurance
companies were well insulated from the severe financial crisis of 2007 2008 that affected the banks
and security firms, because the Stateregulations have the Insurance Industry walled off from
Federal Regulations (Property, 2013). During the Great Depression of the 1930s Insurance policy
holders were protected by the states prudent supervision and regulation(Property, 2013).
Banks and financial industry make money from taking risks, Insurance industry make money by
insuring against risk. (Property, 2013). The Federal government regulate the financial and banking
industry very heavily. Over the years, these regulations became more and more lax (Property, 2013).
Some regulations were weakened or eliminated and supervision of these industries were reduced

letting everybody do anything they wanted (Property, 2013). Insurance Industry did not feel the

The Battle Of Nazi Dictator Adolf Hitler Essay
On February 27 of 2014, masked Russian troops without insignia infiltrated in south Ukraine and
captured strategic sites across Crimea, a rugged peninsula that strategically juts in the Black Sea.
Within a few days Crimea was under Russian control and by July 2015 Crimea was formally
integrated into Russia. The whole episode drew international consternation against Russia, which
resulted in successive rounds of economic sanctions. A few days after the annexation, Ms. Clinton
likened the move to the actions of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler(Rucker, 2014), a sentiment that was
quickly adopted by the media; for example, on March 2, 2014 Bloomberg published an article
entitled, In Ukraine, Echoes of the Anschluss (Bershidsky, 2014) and a few days later, on March
7, 2014, BBC published an article entitled, Crimea seen as Hitler style land grab (Kralova, 2014).
This is a very grave accusation and, given that the USA and Russia collectively hold 90% of all
nuclear weapons, prudence is in order.
Therefore, in this essay I purpose to assess the validity of the claim by using the Ladder of
Inference, a reasoning method likened to a ladder as it is a step by step process that helps us
draw better conclusions from true facts and reality. (Mind Tools). We can use this method in any of
three ways; reflection (becoming aware of our own thinking), advocacy (making our thinking
visible to others), and inquiry (inquiry into other s thinking). (Ross, n.d.) For this essay, I ll depend

sharp point, unknown H is 3 Ethoxy 4 hydroxybenzaldehyde.
Conclusion
Melting point is a technique used to identify pure substances by observing ranges of melting points
as it was done in mixtures of Naphthalene and Biphenyl. Eutectic point, however, should be kept in
my when testing for pure substances, for eutectic compositions can mislead results of the test if
nothing else is considered. Biphenyl s on this technique unknown H tested was determined to be 3
Ethoxy 4 hydroxybenzaldehyde based on its sharp MT.
Questions:
1. a) Examples in which a pure substance could give a broad melting range:
5 mole percent of Naphthalene to 95 mole percent of Biphenyl (which is good percentage of
purity) has a broad melting range.
b) Example of a situation in which an impure substance melts sharply:
Mixture of 60 mole percent of Naphthalene and 40 mole percent of Biphenyl. Mixture has eutectic
composition.
2. Eutectic mixture mixture in which proportions of its constituents allow a uniform melting point
for that mixture. MP range is sharp, despite the fact that mixture is impure.
3. Effects of the impurities on melting behavior of benzoic acid: MP Benzoic Acid 122 В°C a.

Html Coding And The World Wide Web
HTML Coding
HTML coding is used broadly on the world wide web. Without coding on the internet, users the
codes for a given website and produce what we see on our screens. This form of coding is what
makes web browsing possible; the code writing system was invented by a man named Tim
Berners Lee (the same man who gives these codes an address on the internet) , a man who has
been widely awarded and praised for his work on the internet. Initially, HTML coding is what
makes web browsing on any web browser possible. Basically what web browsers do is that they
read certain codes or code languages. HTML or Hypertext Markup Language is one of the coding
languages that web browsers read. The web browsers read and translate these codes, displaying
and producing what we see on our computer monitors or any internet capable device. Hypertext

Self-lessness And The Existence Of Selflessness In Today
Despite many people fighting for a righteous cause ultimately making unethical decisions, Vigny s
assertion that heroes do not exist is false. Heroes today display aspects of selflessness and portray
themselves as role models for others. Modern heroes exist today through the individuals who put
others before themselves. Selfless people can be defined as heroes because they are completing acts
for the benefit of others first before themselves. Furthermore, this can be seen through people such
as philanthropists, and volunteers to help the needy. For example, individuals who volunteer to help
with the cleanup and rescue during Hurricane Harvey are displaying the heroic characteristic of
selflessness. This illustrates that, without these volunteers, it would take a lengthy amount of time
to recover from natural disasters, resulting in the preventable endangerment of citizens harmed. In
addition, selflessness can be seen as a heroic characteristic in the epic poem, Beowulf. Just as
volunteers risk their lives to help the needy, Beowulf, the epic heroof the piece of literature risked
his life by diving into the lake of Grendel s mother to face the turmoil of fight , and attempt to kill
the demon (line 1469). The selflessness of Beowulf further enhances the continued existence of
heroes by showing that selflessness has continued to be a heroic characteristic from primordial
times to today . In addition to selflessness being a key characteristic found in heroes today,

The Application Of Operant Learning

The Application of Operant Learning Operant conditioning and classical conditioning are two
completely different forms of learning. Classical conditioning, discovered by Ivan Pavlov, is
associated with learning through the process in which one reacts to a neutral stimulus. This process
involves matching a neutral stimulus to a stimulus (UCS) that produces an unconditioned response
(UCR), or a reflex, for a long period of time. Over time, the UCS would be removed and the person
being manipulated would start reacting to the previously neutral stimulus, thus becoming a
conditioned, or learned, stimulus (CS) that elicits a conditioned response (CR). Operant conditioning
, on the other hand, is a form of learning where one s behavior is manipulated by the outcome. The
consequences would take a toll on one s behavior and would either increase through reinforcement
or decrease by punishment the likelihood of the behavior happening again. Both reinforcement and
punishment are split into two types: positive and negative. Positive reinforcement and positive
punishment involves controlling one s behavior, whatever the case may be, by presenting a certain
stimulus. Negative reinforcement and negative punishment eradicate a stimulus to increase or
decrease behavior. The differences seen between operant conditioning and classical conditioning are
apparent. In classical conditioning, the

The Gangster Film Genre Of The Mafia
The gangster film genre is a subgenre of the crime film, dealing with organized crime and more
often than not, the Mafia. Though gangster films have their root in the silent era, the genre
became widely popular in the 1930 s Hollywood Studio era, which is characterized by the
Hollywood Genre System. Genre films offered economic advantages, including the repeated use of
standardized themes, elements, characters and iconography. Additionally, genre films were easily
marketable, as audiences knew what to expect from each genre. If a viewer enjoyed one filmfrom a
particular genre, they were likely to enjoy any other film falling into that genre. Specific themes and
elements can be readily identified in gangster films. For one, they commonly question the meaning

Cash Flow Model And The Dividend Discount Model Essay
An equity investment is a number of shares owned by a corporation that are purchased by
investors who are then entitled to shares of the firm s assets in the case of liquidation. These shares
are then bought and sold among stockholders. Before buying any shares, the stockholders and
investors value the stockto determine if it is worth buying. There are different methods stockholders
and investors use to value a stock price. The common ones are the discounted cash flowmodel and
the dividend discount model. The purpose of the discounted model is to determine the value of the
firm and its stock. It uses future cash flowprojections discounted back to the present values to
estimate the potential for the investment. (Discounted Cash Flow (DCF), n.d.) Another valuation
method is the dividend discount model. This method uses predicted dividends and discounting
them back to the present value to obtain a value price. Both models were used to evaluate each
company s stock price to help us determine which one is the best option to purchase.
The different inputs of the discounted cash flow model include the risk free rate, market risk
premium, beta, market value of equity (in millions), pre tax cost of debt, effective tax rate, market
value of debt (in millions), initial cash flow, and long term growth rate. The risk free rate is the
rate of return of an investment with zero risk of financial loss. The market risk premium is the

When considering the topic of health benefits and the risks of running long distances the well
known story of the original marathoner Pheidippides is often brought up. The story is often told
that Pheidippides, after running nearly twenty six miles from Marathon to Athens to declare that the
Athenians had won the Battle of Marathon, fell dead from exhaustion. This version of the first
marathon often casts a negative light on the health benefits of running. However, this is not the full
story. The real story involves Pheidippides traveling one hundred forty miles in an attempt to recruit
the Spartans to aid the Athenians in their upcoming battle; then running again the return trip to
report to the Athenians that aid would not be coming before the Persians arrived to battle. Finally,
he ran the twenty six miles to Athens to report the Athenian victory. That is when he finally
collapsed from wounds and exhaustion. From this tragedy, we see that at some point distance
running can be harmful or even fatal. The real question is, have marathons reached

From the economic review for January 2012 has a graph that shows the output of the three major
economic sectors: manufacturing, construction and services. The graph shows the recession in
2008 to 2011 and how it recovers.
The graph shows that the manufacturing was a lot higher more higher in Q1 in 2008 compared
to the start of 2009. This shows that businesses were not manufacturing a lot of products and the
way in which the manufacturing decreased within a year. This also reflects the manufacturing
that Nissan UK did from 2008 to 2009 by making it go low because there wasn t a huge demand
for products. This also shows that the recession had just begun and was getting a lot worse in
2009. This must have had an impact on Nissan by making their employees lose their jobs
because there was less labour activity. In Q3 of 2009, the graph shows that there was progress

Marriage s Role In The Thousand And One Nights
Marriage, compared to romance, plays a prominent role in The Thousand and One Nights.
Marriage is organized as a measure of convenience and status rather than of love in most cases.
This attitude aligns with the way women are typically treated: as prizes, not powerful, or even
worthy of respect. It was considered more important to marry for status than for love. The only
exceptions to this inclination come in stories where women are presented as more powerful. The
best example is between Shahrazad and Shahrayar. The Thousand and One Nights offer a unique
perspective on the roles of women in Muslim society. Some of the in framed stories portray
women as disobedient wives, as beautiful concubines and slaves who are always eager to please

(2000) tracing the mapping of crime back to 1829, when Adriano Balbi and AndrГ© Michel

with education levels. As time went on sociologists from the Chicago School, Shaw and McKay

understand the importance of the crime location. In the 1980 s the reduction in price of computers
meant it became more cost effective for GIS Applications (Longley et al, 2011). With the
introduction of the new GIS technologies, the ability to use police records within the GIS
applications allowed for crime and intelligence analysis (Radcliff, 2004). These days the
advancements in technology and the reductions in cost has resulted in GIS applications moving
from the backroom computer analysis tool to be used by almost every discipline, from criminology
to healthcare, natural resources to economics. These advancements have not just been in the
applications but also in the science behind them. This has allowed for more advanced analysis,

The Freudian Regression theory states that Psychological repression, is the psychological attempt
made by an individual to repel one s own desires and impulses toward pleasurable instincts by
excluding the desire from one s consciousness and holding or subduing it in the unconscious .
Sigmund Freud believed that In order to face problems in life, the ego employs defense
mechanisms. These mechanisms function unconsciously to keep away unpleasant feelings.
Repression was the first defense mechanism that Freud discovered and is thought to be the most
important. Repression is one of the unconscious mechanisms employed by the ego to avoid a
disturbing thought from being conscious. Normally the thoughts that are repressed are those of
guilt. Freud believed that repression could sometimes have two stages which had to do with the
aspects of personality ego and super ego and the individual s sense of good and bad . The first stage
of Repression which is called Primary Repression is realizing and determining what is good and
what is bad The Second stage of repression starts to take place when a person notices that acting
on some desires could cause anxiety. Repression is seen in The Story of an Hour and in The
Yellow Wallpaper in different ways. We can see that in The Yellow Wallpaper Jane is a depressed

Game Theory And Human Rationality Essay
Game Theory and Human Rationality
Game theory is a popular resource for modelling economic, sociological, philosophical and many
other situations. The Stanford Encyclopaedia of Philosophy defines it as the study of the ways in
which interacting choices of economic agents produce outcomes with respect to the preferences (or
utilities) of those agents, where the outcomes in question might have been intended by none of the
agents. Game theory has many uses, including describing and predicting ideal behaviour as
discussed later on. It can be used to model and predict for example. There are, however, criticisms
to game theory in regards to its ability to apply to human rationality and emotion. Due to the
widespread use of game theory, this has become a popular area of research in economic,
philosophic and even psychological theory.
One can think of game theory as descriptive due to the fact we often use game theory to explain
or justify people s actions after they are taken. This is best seen in analytics of games or sports,
where an analyst might weigh up the advantages and disadvantages to explain a player s actions.
An example of this would be a retrospective analysis of a chess game, where game theory can be
applied to each move to explain why the player might have played a move that seemed illogical
without further thought, but ultimately gains an advantage. This only works assuming both player
and analyst are both rational or equally irrational. If this were not the

Deviance is by definition the fact or state of departing from usual or accepted standards,
especially in social or sexual behavior. Social deviance is a very extensive term, which describes
actions or behaviors that violate social norms. Norms are just rules by which members of any
society are expected to uphold. Social deviance has many forms and interpretations. However,
deviant acts can vary in different places thus they are primarily relative to setting, because what
could be considered deviant in one place could be considered normal in another place.
For example, a few days ago I went to a family s party in which we are all Hispanics. Females
know that this is a very important day so they can express how they are in the way they

American Presence on German Culture Essay
In February of 1945, an unconditional surrender was written up, and to be presented to the
successor of Adolf Hitler. Admiral Karl Doenitz signed this surrender in May of 1945 at the Yalta
conference where Joseph Stalin, Franklin Roosevelt, and Winston Churchill would identify a means
to the end. At the time, Admiral Doenitz had his military commanders assume the government
positions in Germanyuntil a new government was later established. The agreements outlined in the
surrender at the Potsdam Conference between July and August of 1945 were later fulfilled since no
peace conference was held to further diagram the future of Germany. The agreement at the Yalta
conference is what eventually shaped the outcome of Germany s future from... Show more content

In the process of Russia laying its claim to other countries, they attempted to take over Greece as
well, but the British arrived just in time to prevent the takeover. Russia had already expanded so far
into the other European nations that it was somewhat inflated. This caused a significant thinning of
Russian forces in Greece, making it less difficult for Great Britain to force them out. This could
have led to a different turn of events in the near future if Greece had turned communist at that time.
Only speculation and the entertainment industry should expand upon this.
The Division of a Nation
With the division of Germany between the allied forces, came the commencement of the divided
sectors. America now occupied their sector of Germany to the South West enveloping all of
Bavaria and some of the smaller surrounding areas. After the halt of forces after the surrender of
Germany to the Allied Nations, Russia still had the intention of proceeding forward, but with the
United States dropping the two nuclear warheads on Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Russia decided to
halt their push into Europe further, in the fear that they too would undergo an attack to prevent a
further threat. They began research on ways to counter the new threat of nuclear weaponry, and
soon armed themselves with their own nuclear weapons. Thus began The Cold War, and the rivalry
between Russia, and America would

Sample Of Demographic Analysis
Describe the sample. How does this sample represent the population? What makes a sample strong
or weak? Evaluate this sample. The sample came from nine hospitals located in 3 provinces in
Canada. The sample included 36 medical and surgical units of the nine hospitals (HALL et al.,
2010). Workplace interruptions among 360 nurses were examined throughout the day (HALL et al.,
2010). A random sampleof 113 nurses was selected from the medical and surgical units to
participate in a focus group. The focus group focused on validating the data from the nurses
selected. A total of 13,025 interruptions took place, and the results equaled about 50% for both of
the units. The primary source for interruptions was health care workers and nurse colleagues

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Smartphones
Are You As Smart as A Cell Phone? Did you know, in 2011, a boy from Norway used his cell
phone to play a heavy metal song by Megadeth to escape from wolves? This strange story
demonstrates the many unexplored uses for cell phones. Although there are many advantages to
using a cell phone for social, entertainment and safety purposes, there are equally as many
disadvantages. To start, there are a multitude of social advantages in owning a smartphone. In past
years, teenagers had to share landlines with the rest of the family, so phone calls were infrequent
and carefully monitored. Today, smartphones are either always in a tweens hand or lap. And
whether beeping some strange noise or vibrating, the youth is in constant touch with their peers.
Group texts, snapchat, and Instagram are just a few of the methods that these children stay
hooked into each other s lives. Of course, the disadvantages are that if one has no friends, it will
make one feel terrible and isolated not to be included in the virtual conversations. Another problem
is that research shows that a lack of practice hampers many teenagers face to face social skills such
as recognizing body language or having an effective conversation. Correspondingly, communication
by texts can be so brief that misunderstandings occur, which is why the development of emojis has
been so successful. A psychologist whose focus is the effect of technology on people says, Digital
communication has a tendency to be impersonal. Emoji

The Four Major Approaches Of Sociocultural Evolution
Society refers to people who interact in a defined territory and share culture
(Macionis,2012,p.108). They are four major approaches that display ways in which societies
have changed over the past 10,000 years. The first approach was made by Gerhard Lenski who
talked about society in relation to changes concerning technology. Lenski uses the term
sociocultural evolution to describe such changes. Sociocultural evolution is changes that occur as
a society gains very new technology (Macionis,2012,p.88). In the earliest years, societies lived by
hunting and gathering. People made tools to hunt and gather food. Such societies were very petite
so it was easy for them to migrate whenever food was limited. Hunters and gathers spend most of
their time hunting and collecting food for them to satisfy their hunger. They depend on each other
to get their duties done. Women were responsible for vegetation and men went out to hunt. The
young children and elderly help out whenever they could. In most hunting and gathering societies
there is a leader who basically takes control but still has to go out and hunt for food. The basic
weapons used by such societies were spears, bow and arrows and stone knives. These communities
were not really prone to much danger the thing they feared the most was droughts and storms.
Gathering and hunting societies began to decrease as societies became more developed. Along the
way, societies developed horticulture, which is the use of hand tools to

Toys Are An Integral Part Of Our Childhood
As a child grows, they are exposed to a society that expects them to conform to the assigned
gender roles and stereotypes. This is mainly done in accordance to their choice of games and toys.
Toys are an integral part of our childhood. In some ways, it is the one thing that people from all
over the world share in common. As children, toys were a major source of our entertainment and
social interaction. However, the booming population of children and the growth of toy industry has
resulted in the commercialization of childhood.
Toys have been an effective method used for generations to conform children and teach them about
society s gender norms as early as possible. Children, in their early years, are like sponges that
absorb everything as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus in this paper I will be exploring how as a society we have been conditioning generations of
children to abide and follow the gender norms without even realizing it ourselves.
The role of toys in gender socialization during childhood
An infant is a mere passive learner. It is the children in their toddlers stage, who start to understand
the basic gender typing and soon engage in gender segregation. A young female toddler learns at
an early age that she needs to strive and become a good mother with nurturing character when she
grows up. She acknowledges that this is what the society expects of her.
Similarly, a boy on the other hand realizes that he should not play with girly toys and perfect his
masculinity. In addition, according to a research study done by Robin Banerjee and Vicki
Lintern (2000), it was found that the younger children aged 4 to 6 years old are more likely to
conform and be rigid in the gender segregating activities than the older children. This just further
shows how much the children have been conditioned to follow the gender norms of the society
throughout their childhoodНѕ the society conditions a child majorly through storytelling, media, and
parents, but more so by the choice of the toys they pick.
Most children s choice of toys are based on gender stereotypes of the communities that they are
raised in. Boys and girls are divided into categories. Boys are categorized as
masculine in nature and girls on the other hand

Anna Akhmatov The Russian Antigone
Anna Arteaga
Mrs.Bausinger
English 2 PAP
07 December 2017
The Russian Antigone
Anna Akhmatova (June 23, 1889 March 5, 1966) was a renown Russian poet and prophet. Often
credited for being the Russian Antigone, Akhmatova was unlike any of the other women of her
time. Anna Akhmatova was the leader and heat and soul of Saint Petersburg tradition of Russian
Poetry in the course of the first half of the twentieth century. (New World Encyclopedia 1). Along
with being a poet, Akhmatova also wrote prose, literary scholarships, memoirs, and
autobiographical pieces. In her 77 years of living Anna Akhmatova accomplished so much she
went down as one of the greatest Russian poets and an inspiration for women all over the world.
Anna Akhmatova, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Akhmatova was the modern day feminist of her time ensuring that women had a voice in the face
of a man who wanted to keep them quiet. Akhmatova s writing was even banned from 1925 1940,
but Stalin was so afraid to exile a women so popular that he didn t dare attack her directly (Huck
Gutman 1).
Akhmatova s first collection of poetry was entitled, Evening. She published this work when
Russia was already in the revolutionary era. Akhmatova was one of the few who never fled
Russia during World War 1 and stayed and watched as those who left, lost their creative urges,
and were misunderstood or ignored (Antigone 740). One of Akhmatova s poems, I am not one of
those who left the land, was inspired by this very thing. I am not one of those who left the land to
the mercy of its enemies Their flattery leaves me cold, my songs are not for them to praise.
But I pity the exile s lot. Like a felon, like a man half dead. dark is your path, wanderer; wormwood
infects your foreign bread.
But here, in the murk of conflagration, where scarcely a friend is left to know, we, the survivors,
do not flinch from anything, not from a single blow.
Surely the reckoning will be made after the passing of this cloud. We are the people without tears,
straighter than you... more proud... (Antigone 704)
Akhmatova also took on the role of Cassandra, because she was a tragic queen. Cassandra relates
Anna Akhmatova to a prophetess of doom.

  • 3. Development Of Aging Or Mid Life Crisis There will come a time when one has to come to terms of aging or mid life crisis. According to Weaver (2009) the major psychological changes occur in childhood. The author also noted that Freud also mentioned that all stages of the psychosexual development are also completed in early childhood (pp.69). Freud and Freud also had differences when it referred to coming of age (Weaver, 2009). Jung saw mid life not as a crisis, but put the emphasis on growth and maturation (pp.70). Most of the clients that Freudians seen were experiencing neurosis, this put a different perspective on their adjustment to life, while Jung s patients were socially adaptable (Weaver, 2009). Jung did not see mid life crisis of balancing the self, social world with a deepening meaning. Jung thought that people of mid life, were developed, one side, of their life, and now lacks meaning (Weaver, 2009). Now the existentialist view was in contrast with the psychodynamic view and believed that people in this stage of life gravitating towards meanings and values (Frankl, 1967). This was evident of a study done in the 1960 at a Vienna Hospital; it showed that 55% existential frustration and half expressed life are meaningless (Frankl, 1967). Carl Rodgers had some similarities with Frankl s perspective on mid life crisis (pp.73). Rodgers looked at it from a humanistic approach, while asking existential question such as; What is my purpose? (pp. 73). Rodgers noted that the process of the coming of self is ... When mentioning the Reformation, an invention that changed history as it was known came about, the Printing Press. Until the mid fifteenth century, the only way in the West to reproduce any kind of text was to copy it laboriously by hand. This introduced errors or improved the original text as the writer saw fit, thus two different copies of the same text could read differently. Two fifteenth century inventions revolutionized the availability of books. First, movable metal type was introduced around 1450, and after that time printed books first began to appear. Equally important, cheap manufactured paper replaced expensive sheepskin. The introduction and spread of printing throughout Europe made it much easier for peace to share their thoughts and discoveries with others. The Printing press revolutionized books and text in history because it added a more accurate way for writers, scientists, and just about anyone who writes to preserve their work in a much more accurate form and add the ability to present their works to a broader audience. As you can see the printing press was the start of something that is still used in today s society, as shown by the ability to make copies and vast publishing. It is easy to see why readers are drawn to certain poems such as From The Nursery. Jane Kenyon s From The Nursery is the first segment of nine in a poem about depression. When I began to dissect this poem, I learned more about myself and the poet with the way she uses her linebreaks, her use of metaphors and images, style, and word choice. If public schools were to establish uniforms for every student, then they would be able to fit in because nobody would be considered different. Then students would get along and just put their social class aside. Based on what one has read uniforms wouldn t just reduce the number of students getting bullied, but it would be saving a life too. The second reason all public schools should have uniforms is because it saves time. • 18. The Battle Of Nazi Dictator Adolf Hitler Essay On February 27 of 2014, masked Russian troops without insignia infiltrated in south Ukraine and captured strategic sites across Crimea, a rugged peninsula that strategically juts in the Black Sea. Within a few days Crimea was under Russian control and by July 2015 Crimea was formally integrated into Russia. The whole episode drew international consternation against Russia, which resulted in successive rounds of economic sanctions. A few days after the annexation, Ms. Clinton likened the move to the actions of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler(Rucker, 2014), a sentiment that was quickly adopted by the media; for example, on March 2, 2014 Bloomberg published an article entitled, In Ukraine, Echoes of the Anschluss (Bershidsky, 2014) and a few days later, on March 7, 2014, BBC published an article entitled, Crimea seen as Hitler style land grab (Kralova, 2014). This is a very grave accusation and, given that the USA and Russia collectively hold 90% of all nuclear weapons, prudence is in order. • 26. Self-lessness And The Existence Of Selflessness In Today Despite many people fighting for a righteous cause ultimately making unethical decisions, Vigny s assertion that heroes do not exist is false. Heroes today display aspects of selflessness and portray themselves as role models for others. Modern heroes exist today through the individuals who put others before themselves. Selfless people can be defined as heroes because they are completing acts for the benefit of others first before themselves. Furthermore, this can be seen through people such as philanthropists, and volunteers to help the needy. For example, individuals who volunteer to help with the cleanup and rescue during Hurricane Harvey are displaying the heroic characteristic of selflessness. This illustrates that, without these volunteers, it would take a lengthy amount of time to recover from natural disasters, resulting in the preventable endangerment of citizens harmed. In addition, selflessness can be seen as a heroic characteristic in the epic poem, Beowulf. Just as volunteers risk their lives to help the needy, Beowulf, the epic heroof the piece of literature risked his life by diving into the lake of Grendel s mother to face the turmoil of fight , and attempt to kill the demon (line 1469). The selflessness of Beowulf further enhances the continued existence of heroes by showing that selflessness has continued to be a heroic characteristic from primordial times to today . The Application Of Operant Learning Jane Tien Thuy Nguyen Professor Shaun Vecera Section 18 Elementary Psychology 05 October 2014 The Application of Operant Learning Operant conditioning and classical conditioning are two completely different forms of learning. Classical conditioning, discovered by Ivan Pavlov, is associated with learning through the process in which one reacts to a neutral stimulus. This process involves matching a neutral stimulus to a stimulus (UCS) that produces an unconditioned response (UCR), or a reflex, for a long period of time. Over time, the UCS would be removed and the person being manipulated would start reacting to the previously neutral stimulus, thus becoming a conditioned, or learned, stimulus (CS) that elicits a conditioned response (CR). Operant conditioning , on the other hand, is a form of learning where one s behavior is manipulated by the outcome. The consequences would take a toll on one s behavior and would either increase through reinforcement or decrease by punishment the likelihood of the behavior happening again. Both reinforcement and punishment are split into two types: positive and negative. Positive reinforcement and positive punishment involves controlling one s behavior, whatever the case may be, by presenting a certain stimulus. Negative reinforcement and negative punishment eradicate a stimulus to increase or decrease behavior. The differences seen between operant conditioning and classical conditioning are apparent. Cash Flow Model And The Dividend Discount Model Essay An equity investment is a number of shares owned by a corporation that are purchased by investors who are then entitled to shares of the firm s assets in the case of liquidation. These shares are then bought and sold among stockholders. Before buying any shares, the stockholders and investors value the stockto determine if it is worth buying. There are different methods stockholders and investors use to value a stock price. The common ones are the discounted cash flowmodel and the dividend discount model. The purpose of the discounted model is to determine the value of the firm and its stock. It uses future cash flowprojections discounted back to the present values to estimate the potential for the investment. (Discounted Cash Flow (DCF), n.d.) Another valuation method is the dividend discount model. This method uses predicted dividends and discounting them back to the present value to obtain a value price. Both models were used to evaluate each company s stock price to help us determine which one is the best option to purchase. The story is often told that Pheidippides, after running nearly twenty six miles from Marathon to Athens to declare that the Athenians had won the Battle of Marathon, fell dead from exhaustion. This version of the first marathon often casts a negative light on the health benefits of running. However, this is not the full story. The real story involves Pheidippides traveling one hundred forty miles in an attempt to recruit the Spartans to aid the Athenians in their upcoming battle; then running again the return trip to report to the Athenians that aid would not be coming before the Persians arrived to battle. The Stanford Encyclopaedia of Philosophy defines it as the study of the ways in which interacting choices of economic agents produce outcomes with respect to the preferences (or utilities) of those agents, where the outcomes in question might have been intended by none of the agents. Game theory has many uses, including describing and predicting ideal behaviour as discussed later on. It can be used to model and predict for example. There are, however, criticisms to game theory in regards to its ability to apply to human rationality and emotion. Due to the widespread use of game theory, this has become a popular area of research in economic, philosophic and even psychological theory. One can think of game theory as descriptive due to the fact we often use game theory to explain or justify people s actions after they are taken. This is best seen in analytics of games or sports, where an analyst might weigh up the advantages and disadvantages to explain a player s actions. An example of this would be a retrospective analysis of a chess game, where game theory can be applied to each move to explain why the player might have played a move that seemed illogical without further thought, but ultimately gains an advantage. The agreements outlined in the surrender at the Potsdam Conference between July and August of 1945 were later fulfilled since no peace conference was held to further diagram the future of Germany. In the process of Russia laying its claim to other countries, they attempted to take over Greece as well, but the British arrived just in time to prevent the takeover. Russia had already expanded so far into the other European nations that it was somewhat inflated. This caused a significant thinning of Russian forces in Greece, making it less difficult for Great Britain to force them out. This could have led to a different turn of events in the near future if Greece had turned communist at that time. Only speculation and the entertainment industry should expand upon this. The Division of a Nation With the division of Germany between the allied forces, came the commencement of the divided sectors. America now occupied their sector of Germany to the South West enveloping all of Bavaria and some of the smaller surrounding areas. After the halt of forces after the surrender of Germany to the Allied Nations, Russia still had the intention of proceeding forward, but with the United States dropping the two nuclear warheads on Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Russia decided to halt their push into Europe further, in the fear that they too would undergo an attack to prevent a further threat. They began research on ways to counter the new threat of nuclear weaponry, and soon armed themselves with their own nuclear weapons. Thus began The Cold War, and the rivalry between Russia, and America would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Smartphones Are You As Smart as A Cell Phone? Did you know, in 2011, a boy from Norway used his cell phone to play a heavy metal song by Megadeth to escape from wolves? This strange story demonstrates the many unexplored uses for cell phones. Although there are many advantages to using a cell phone for social, entertainment and safety purposes, there are equally as many disadvantages. To start, there are a multitude of social advantages in owning a smartphone. In past years, teenagers had to share landlines with the rest of the family, so phone calls were infrequent and carefully monitored. Today, smartphones are either always in a tweens hand or lap. And whether beeping some strange noise or vibrating, the youth is in constant touch with their peers. Group texts, snapchat, and Instagram are just a few of the methods that these children stay hooked into each other s lives. Of course, the disadvantages are that if one has no friends, it will make one feel terrible and isolated not to be included in the virtual conversations. Another problem is that research shows that a lack of practice hampers many teenagers face to face social skills such as recognizing body language or having an effective conversation. Correspondingly, communication by texts can be so brief that misunderstandings occur, which is why the development of emojis has been so successful. A psychologist whose focus is the effect of technology on people says, Digital communication has a tendency to be impersonal. Emoji ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Four Major Approaches Of Sociocultural Evolution Society refers to people who interact in a defined territory and share culture (Macionis,2012,p.108). They are four major approaches that display ways in which societies have changed over the past 10,000 years. The first approach was made by Gerhard Lenski who talked about society in relation to changes concerning technology. Lenski uses the term sociocultural evolution to describe such changes. Sociocultural evolution is changes that occur as a society gains very new technology (Macionis,2012,p.88). In the earliest years, societies lived by hunting and gathering. People made tools to hunt and gather food. Such societies were very petite so it was easy for them to migrate whenever food was limited. Hunters and gathers spend most of their time hunting and collecting food for them to satisfy their hunger. They depend on each other to get their duties done. Women were responsible for vegetation and men went out to hunt. The young children and elderly help out whenever they could. In most hunting and gathering societies there is a leader who basically takes control but still has to go out and hunt for food. The basic weapons used by such societies were spears, bow and arrows and stone knives. These communities were not really prone to much danger the thing they feared the most was droughts and storms. Gathering and hunting societies began to decrease as societies became more developed. Along the way, societies developed horticulture, which is the use of hand tools to ... As children, toys were a major source of our entertainment and social interaction. However, the booming population of children and the growth of toy industry has resulted in the commercialization of childhood. Thus in this paper I will be exploring how as a society we have been conditioning generations of children to abide and follow the gender norms without even realizing it ourselves. The role of toys in gender socialization during childhood An infant is a mere passive learner. It is the children in their toddlers stage, who start to understand the basic gender typing and soon engage in gender segregation. A young female toddler learns at an early age that she needs to strive and become a good mother with nurturing character when she grows up. She acknowledges that this is what the society expects of her. Similarly, a boy on the other hand realizes that he should not play with girly toys and perfect his masculinity. In addition, according to a research study done by Robin Banerjee and Vicki Lintern (2000), it was found that the younger children aged 4 to 6 years old are more likely to conform and be rigid in the gender segregating activities than the older children. This just further shows how much the children have been conditioned to follow the gender norms of the society throughout their childhoodНѕ the society conditions a child majorly through storytelling, media, and parents, but more so by the choice of the toys they pick. Most children s choice of toys are based on gender stereotypes of the communities that they are raised in. Boys and girls are divided into categories. One of Akhmatova s poems, I am not one of those who left the land, was inspired by this very thing. I am not one of those who left the land to the mercy of its enemies Their flattery leaves me cold, my songs are not for them to praise. But I pity the exile s lot. Like a felon, like a man half dead. dark is your path, wanderer; wormwood infects your foreign bread.
