Renewable Sources Of Energy And Energy
The world today is a place of rapid progress and scientific advancement, which has been going strong
for the last few decades. This period will gradually begin to slow down and eventually stop altogether
because the world will, quite literally, run out of fuel. Right now, the majority of all the energy used in
the day to day lives and operations of the entire world population are nonrenewable. This energy is
created from the fossil fuels: coal, petroleum and natural gas. Fossil fuels are still cheap and high in
supply, but the rate at which we are consuming them, which is only expected to increase, vastly
exceeds the rate at which they regenerate. This creates the aforementioned problem of mankind
running out of the required natural resources to fuel its own energy demands. The only solution to this
problem that is possible, is to begin placing more influence renewable sources of energy and doing so
as soon as possible. Renewable energy sources include solar, wind, hydroelectric and geothermal
power. Each of these are insignificant alone, but as a group they become a viable alternative to
nonrenewable energy sources. Together, they have the potential to replace the fossil fuels as our
primary provider of energy. Although there are many that argue against the use of renewable energy it
is vital that the United States government makes the implementation and widespread use of renewable
energy sources mandatory.
Experts have known and understood that nonrenewable energy sources

Abstract
Arthritis is a medical condition that causes joint inflammation, stiffness, and resulting pain. This
disease affects an estimated 40 million Americans, with a positive correlation towards old age.
Opening medication bottles can be difficult for arthritis patients who struggle to open twist lids, snap
lids, and click locks. Janet Kramer is an arthritis patient that struggles to open her medicine bottles.
This solution uses a sliding mechanism that requires no twisting motion and little force. The
mechanism is operated by pulling on a rod, and pushing down. The downwards motion creates a class
one lever that uses the shell of the bottle as a fulcrum. The effort force is magnified by a mechanical
advantage to lift the cap. This solution will be designed according to design specifications and
evaluated with the performance benchmarks. If the concept performs unsatisfactorily, the design
process will reiterate until the problem is solved for the stakeholder.

Examples Of Dynamic Equivalency
For over 400 years now, the Authorized Version of the Bible or as commonly known as the King
James Version has been used by the church of Jesus Christ. Christianity, along with other religions has
a governing document or book in which it governs their walk of faith. For Christians, this book is the
Bible or also known as the Word of God. Throughout the scriptures, it is clear that God promises to
preserve His words (Psalms 12:6 7). In addition, He commands to not add or take away from his
words (Deuteronomy 4:1 2), that God cares about every one of His words (Proverbs 30:5 6), in which
the words will never pass away (Mark 13:31), and finally that God will curse those who change His
Word (Revelation 22:18 19).

Formal equivalency is a word for word translation where it is conservative which translates words as
accurate as possible from the first language. Dynamic equivalency is meaning for meaning or phrase
to phrase . This means that the translator is writing down the best paraphrase he could make based on
his own judgment. This is dangerous because you have to trust his understanding of what the text is
saying rather then you making the interpretation. This is beneficial because it is easy to read and
follow but has many doors open to skewed meanings. Jennifer Beatson, in the journal titled, Christian
Scholar s Review Issue 34.1 of fall 2004, She reviews The Word of God in English: Criteria for
Excellence in Bible Translation by Leland Ryken. Ryken cites the trends leading to a large growing of
English Bible translations, and the need to evaluate their merits. One of his main criticisms is the
dynamic equivalence used in practically all modern translations. He claims that these works, (1) they
lack literary excellence, and (2) they do not faithfully translate the original biblical texts (Beatson
134). He holds that only formal or word for word translations should be used because they hold true to
the original text and author. Beatson states that Ryken goes back into the history of the English Bible
and demonstrates how the KJV upholds the essentially literal translations of the Old and New
Testaments. The translators of the KJV gave Christians the literal Word of

Assessing Language Development
Language is a key factor in the communication between humans, playing an important part in the
interaction between individuals. The human language is a symbolic ruled governed system that is both
abstract and productive characteristics, enabling its speakers to produce and comprehend a wide range
of utterances (Kuczaj Hill, 2003). Many individuals from birth through infancy childhood and
adulthood have no issues when it comes to language development, but for many others the
development of language can be somewhat difficult. Several individuals struggle due to suffering from
a variety of impaired language disorders, making the development of new skills an extremely difficult
process. This essay is going to discuss how the research from studies ... Show more content on

Today, nearly 57 million Americans receive benefits from nutrition assistance programs such as SNAP
and WIC. The 47.6 million Americans that are part of SNAP are currently able to purchase food
staples as well as prepackaged foods. The 9 million WIC beneficiaries however, are limited to the
types of products they can purchase to only food staples. There is a new bill being constructed for the
approval or denial of Congress that will alter the current US Farm Bill. This new bill will restrict the
purchases of SNAP beneficiaries to food staples only in addition to adding white potatoes to the list of

Alexander Astin, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Higher Education and Organizational Change,
at the University of California, Los Angeles, spent much of his career trying to understand which
variables are most likely to predict student success in Higher Education. Through the course of his
research, Astin became convinced that what he called student involvement was essential to
undergraduate student success. In a now world leading paper, first published in 1984, Astin defined
involvement as the amount of physical and psychological energy that the student devotes to the
academic experience, and contended that the amount of learning and personal development that

providing a shared real world space for students to realise collaborative projects. Within the School,
we see collaboration as dividing the task and multiplying the success of everything that we do (every

We see the Random Twist Hub as a creative, interactive, informal and social learning space which
would encourage student collaboration beyond their own courses and traditional subject boundaries.
The creative opportunities are extensive, and embedding the critical importance of collaboration
through creative media rich projects is everything we hope for within the School. In an ever changing
global landscape, we recognise that hubs are important spaces where students can design, test, scale

My personal fitness program is designed to enhance my speed, agility and cardio vascular fitness, as
well as to improve my skill level in the main parts of tennis. To improve these aspects of my
performance I will be doing a six week course involving, in particular, a circuit training course, as
well as numerous endurance runs and fitness techniques, some of which will be included in my circuit.

For much of my programme I will be working with a partner, which will increase my safety as they
can call for or give help as necessary. I will be training at the Weald Tennis Club in Hassocks, who
will provide me with tennis balls as well as courts and nets that are an appropriate size for my circuit,
or at the school tennis courts where I will need my own balls; I will use my own tennis racket. The
main risk of injury is from overusing my right arm and shoulder, which could cause overuse injuries
such as tennis elbow . To prevent these as best as possible I will be carrying out thorough warm ups
before each session in my programme, and a thorough warm down at the end of each session.
The stations in my circuit will vary in length to accommodate my different levels of ability for each of
the different stations exercises. The stations in the circuit are all designed in accordance with my
weaknesses and other areas of my game that I want to improve on. They are all very different
exercises, which helps to relieve tedium, as well as giving resting time from the more tiring activities
whilst giving rest from the less arduous ones. Because I am fairly fit from playing tennis throughout
the summer, and from games at school, I will not need to concentrate as hard on the fitness improving

A Brief Note On Seismic Hazard Analysis On The Event Of A...
Summary of proposed research
Seismic hazard analysis is an important tool in mitigating risks in the event of a disastrous seismic
event like an earthquake. This can be done by studying the behaviour of the soil in locations that are
within seismically active regions using several geophysical methods. This project employs the use the
cost effective microtremor method in studying the site response in Kathmandu, Nepal, following the
April 25, 2015 M7.8 Gorkha. Analysis of the field data will yield information that could be used by
the Government and people of Kathmandu, Nepal, in reviewing their building construction codes and
other policies to minimize casualties in the event of an earthquake. This is very important considering
the location of Kathmandu which is within the seismically active Himalayas.
Statement of the problem
Kathmandu lies within the tectonically active Himalayan mountain range, which is a continental
continental convergent boundary. Kathmandu is located in an approximately 500 m deep sedimentary
basin, which is likely to amplify earthquake shaking (Paudyal et al, 2012). More than 9000 people
were killed and about 22000 injured in Nepal during the magnitude 7.8 Gorkha earthquake on April
25, 2015, and the M 7.3 aftershock on May 12, 2015, (Nepal National Planning Commission, 2015).
Over 500,000 buildings were either damaged or completely destroyed during the event with the
damages estimated to exceed $6.7 billion (USD) (Nepal National Planning

Here is a small tutorial that suffices you with the basic concepts required to put up eyes on your robot.
Trust me, if you are into robotics, you are going to enjoy the next few pages. After all, making a robot
that can see would really be cool! So let s get started!
A vision based robot has an image acquisition device like a webcam as its eyes. Then we need a
processor that can make sense out of those captured images and actuators like dc motors for
navigation. One key point to note is that Image Processing has huge computational requirements, and
it is not possible to run an image processing code directly on a small microcontroller. Hence, for our
purpose, the simplest approach would be to run the code on a computer, which has a webcam
connected to it to take the images, and the robot is controlled by the computer via serial or parallel
port. The code is written in a software that provides the tools for acquiring images, analyzing the
content in the images and deriving conclusions. MATLAB is one of the many such software available
which provide the platform for performing these tasks.

Homelessness And The United States
Homelessness has always been a present problem in the United States. It is caused by many factors
that some of us are not aware of. The situations of these people hurt their families and local
communities alike. Two sources were examined for their content on these issues. This essay describes
the hardships of homelessness and what can be done to help these people.
Helping the Homeless Many people have gotten to experience what life is like in big cities or small
rural communities. Often times, these places have a population of wealthier people and an area of
poorer families. What many do not experience is what it is like to be homeless in these places.
Homeless men, women and children can be seen under bridges, on front stoops, in cars, and several
other locations of shelter . This problem is more common and local than a lot of us believe. Whether
we know it or not, we have people that are struggling with homelessness in our own communities
today. This epidemic is more real than we may ever know. It is very sad to imagine these people living
in these conditions but things can be done to help. Homelessness is a reality in local communities and
can be improved through schools, educational programs, charity, and helping them overcome barriers
or stressors. There are numerous common misconceptions about the homeless and how they are being
helped. People usually picture a homeless person as lazy (known as a bum ) or unfit for society. It

They consume growing amounts of energy and other natural resources, degrading the environment in
numerous ways. In addition to using up fossil fuels and other resources, plastic products create litter,
hurt marine life, and threaten the basis of life on earth. There is over 45 million tons of plastics per
year and nearly every piece of plastic ever made still exists today because of its long life properties.
Biodegradable plastics could be an effective solution to all of these problems. Biodegradable plastics
are a much better choice than non biodegradable plastics because they are friendlier to the earth and
the environment. Biodegradable plastics break down faster, can be recycled easier and are non toxic.
With these characteristics of biodegradable plastics, we could help save lives and the environment as
well and reduce the threat plastics give to marine life. Plastic, the wonder material that we use for
everything, is perhaps the most harmful of this trash because it does not readily break down in nature
but if it is biodegradable, these plastics break down faster so they have a much shorter effect on the
earth, and they will degrade completely. Normal plastics are manufactured using oil, and this process
is very harmful to the environment by polluting the air and environment, but this is not the case with
green biodegradable plastics. Using biodegradable plastics will minimize the effects that these

Arcadia by Tom Stoppard Shows The Dangers and Chaos and...
While Arcadia by Tom Stoppard is a play that intertwines a lot of humor with mathematical and
scientific reasoning, it also conveys a message regarding the dangers and chaos of absolute
knowledge. Much of what occurs in Acadia relates to the article The Dangers of Certainty: A Lesson
From Auschwitz written Simon Critchley. In today s modern society, Stoppard s play is about why
scientists proceed in researching concepts that yield nothing; it is about why people associate
themselves with endearment in face of the disruption that it can cause. The characters in the play
struggle, and often fail in their attempts for certainty, falling into irritation with others. Humans, by
nature, are constantly seeking definite answers; a mentality that allows one to address an issue, find a
solution, and continue on. Humans have a hard time accepting that, sometimes, there are things for
which one will never have a definite answer. As the author, Simon Critchley, states, Insisting on
certainty, by contrast, leads ineluctably to arrogance and dogma based on ignorance. This can be seen
in many instances throughout the play, where many of the characters grow very irritated; Bernard, for
instance, tries to prove his theory that Byron killed Ezra Chater. In his attempt, he grows ineluctably
arrogant, especially when he finds that he is indeed wrong, and fails at his quest for certainty: Fucked
by dahlia! Do you think? Is it open and shut? Am i fucked? What does it really amount to? When

Percent Yield Lab Report
Percent yield is determined by calculating the theoretical and actual masses. The theoretical yield is
the expected or maximum amount of product you should see in a reaction8. Ideally, the percent yield
should be one hundred. The results of the percent yield calculations are indicated in Table 5. For the
two detergents, the percent yields were lower than one hundred. This could have occurred because of
many different errors during the experiment. One of those errors could have been that some of the
product might have been left behind in a beaker when it was transferred over into the vacuum
filtration considering the fact that the product was a paste and therefore stuck to the beaker. Another
error could have occurred during the vacuum filtration. Some of the extremely small particles could
have managed to pass through the filter paper therefore causing the overall products final mass to
decrease. The percent yield for the soap made from olive oil was extremely large and abnormal. This
could have occurred due to the presence of impurities9. The product could have still contained some
of the solvent because it might not have become a homogenous mixture. Also, the solution could have
become contaminated by other components therefore increasing the mass. Some of these ... Show

Hard water is a mixture of water with other minerals. Those other minerals typically include calcium,
iron, and magnesium. The scum is formed because the calcium ions bind to the negatively charged
ends of the soap. This interaction creates a precipitate which will no longer be soluble in water. A way
to deal with soap scum is to soften the hard water. This can be done by removing the calcium and
magnesium. This process is typically known as ion exchange. During ion exchange, a polymer bed is
used in order to attract the calcium and magnesium. This attraction has to be stronger than their
attraction to the

The Reflection Of A Motorcycle Riders Group As An...
On the class of ENGL 1301, during the first month, we focused on discourse communities: which in
fact are a group of people who share same values, beliefs, ideas, interest using same language and
method of communication to achieve a certain goal. The people in discourse communities requires the
certain level of knowledge and expertise in the field and becomes part of the discourse community by
understanding and using logos, ethos, and pathos to discuss, explain and argue their own interest and
knowledge within their own community using the own method of communication. Any people
involved in the certain group can be in discourse communities if they share same ideas and view with
common interest. Motorcycle Riders Group as an discourse community has its importance to readers

Law and Slave Identity in Dred and Pudd nhead Wilson Essay
Law and Slave Identity in Dred and Pudd nhead Wilson What is a slave? A slave, according to many
of the laws in the individual slave states during the 19th century, was an article of property, a thing,
and an object not human. However, according to another, the 3/5 Compromise of 1787, a slave was
worth 3/5 of a white man. The population of the Southern states was heavily African, and this
compromise enabled them to count those slaves as 3/5 of a citizen in order to get more representation
in Congress. What does that mean for interpretations of the law? Can a `thing be tried for murder, or is
a slave a man who has committed only 3/5 of the crime? Unfortunately, laws often have an ambiguity

In particular, Twain and Stowe use the closing speeches of both Wilson and Clayton to make an
attempt at defining the identity of slaves under the law and to stress the complexities of race and the

The trial at the end of Pudd nhead Wilson takes place in Dawson s Landing, Missouri. Lawyer David
Wilson, popularly known as Pudd nhead, is defending Luigi and Angelo Capello, charged in the
murder of Judge York Leicester Driscoll. Wilson chooses to use his closing speech not to assert the
points that he had made through the course of the trial and remind the jury of the evidence that proves
the twin s innocence, but rather to expose the guilty party. This speech begins with, We will now
proceed to find the guilty. (140) The word `guilty is ambiguous, however, because although the trial is
concerned with the murder of Judge Driscoll, Wilson s closing speech focuses on exposing Tom
Driscoll as a Negro who was switched at birth. Out of nearly two pages of text enclosing Wilson s
closing remarks, only about 3 sentences even mention the murder. The rest are concerned with the
mistaken identities of a slave and a white gentleman. It s more likely that in this case `guilty is being

Analysis Of Isolation In The Searchers
On the Threshold of Isolation The film The Searchers (1956) opens with the score s theme, What
makes a man to wander?/What makes a man to roam? The song s lyrics sets the premise for a story of
a man, Ethan Edwards, who battles questions of purpose and identity as he takes on a multi year
rescue mission. The film culminates with another verse from the song, A man will search his heart and
soul/Go searchin way out there/His peace of mind he knows he ll find/But where, oh Lord, Lord
where?/Ride away, ride away, ride away. Ethan completes his rescue mission, but fails to locate peace
of mind. His inability to securely locate a sense of belonging and his loss of loyalties create the
character s isolation The final scene, showing Ethan at the threshold of a home, exemplifies Ethan s
alienation. The Searcher s final scene shows Ethan on the front porch of the Jorgensen s frontier
house. The viewer can only see blackness within the home. The light from the expanse of frontierland
outside causes Ethan s shadow to mix with the darkness of the home s interior. At the house s
threshold, Ethan appears in contrapposto form, a term associated with Classical sculptures when a
person s weight is supported by only one leg. In contrapposto, the arm opposite to the supporting leg
is tense or engaged while the other arm hangs freely. This position is meant to convey a natural,
relaxed pose. But as a result of Ethan s engaged arm holding the arm meant to be at ease, Ethan
appears anxious

Persuasive Essay On The 14th Amendment
The Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States is perhaps the most sweeping and
has likely impacted the general jurisprudence of the Supreme Court the most of any other amendment.
This is because, where all other right protecting amendments protect something specific, the
fourteenth amendment was designed to ensure that states guaranteed due process rights, applied the
law equally, and protected the privileges [and] immunities of citizens of the United States. Because of
this language, the Fourteenth Amendment appears to be and to some extent is simply the application
of the Fifth Amendment, and through selective incorporation, the rest of the Bill of Rights. To that
end, the Fourteenth Amendment possesses a fortuitous expansion to the simple due process right: the
right to equal protection of the laws. Laws that appear to violate the Equal Protection Clause thusly
receive the same kind of scrutiny that other fundamental rights are given. The Fourteenth Amendment
is relatively new compared to the Bill of Rights, having been passed in 1868. The first major case that
dealt with the amendment were the Slaughterhouse Cases in 1872. In those cases, a group of
slaughterhouses that were put out of business by a Louisiana law creating a monopoly claimed that
they were denied equal protection under the law. Though the court ultimately denied their claim
primarily on the basis that the Privileges and Immunities Clause does not apply to the states, they also

Theme Of Loss In Chaucer s Poem Book Of The Duchess
In Geoffrey Chaucer s dream vision poem, The Book of the Duchess, the theme of loss seems to be
very prevalent. Loss can be found in the dreamer s lack of sleep, Alcyone s loss of her husband, and
the Knight s loss of his lady. Loss can also be noticed in events outside of the book with the death of
Blanche, Duchess of Lancaster and wife of Chaucer s benefactor, John of Gaunt. This poem is
believed to be an elegy that was composed for one of Blanche s later commemoration services. I do
agree with that theory and have found evidence to support it. In the early, opening lines of the poem,
we find that the dreamer is experiencing a challenging time falling asleep. His heavy thoughts are
incredibly disturbing at night and he has not been able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

never allow his lost Lady White to leave his mind. Line 1115 He says that if he forgets his beloved the

causing him so much pain. Supporting evidence Supporting evidence Body 2. Blanche s elegy There
is evidence that seems to suggest that this poem was written by Chaucer to commemorate the death of
Blanche of Lancaster. The first part of this is that there has been may handwritten notes that suggest
The Book of the Duchess had been written at the request of John of Gaunt. Secondly, evidence is in
the date in which the poem should have been written. This was around 1368 1371. The death of
Blanch occurred on September 12, 1368 and the poem would have been written afterwards for one of
her commemoration services. The exact date of the poem is unclear, but it should have been written
before 1971. In that year, the Duke had married Constance of Castile. Gwen M. Vickery argues that if
the poem was written after the second marriage it would be a virtual tribute to hypocrisy. I agree with

Importance Of Xenia In The 21st Century
Xenia in the 21st Century In ancient Greek culture, the term xenia refers to the concept of hospitality.
When following xenia, one should invite strangers into one s home, treat the strangers respectfully,
bathe them, feed them, and offer them a place to stay until they are ready to continue their travels.
Hosts should also offer to aid guests on the remainder of their journey and give them a parting gift.
The concept of xenia is still very relevant in the 21st century US, particularly to the current refugee
crisis and the government s strict position on immigration. Although life has changed since the time of
the ancient Greeks, the aspects of hosting, aiding, and respecting strangers in need of help remain
important topics in today s world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Extreme vetting is the practice of extremely thorough investigation and background checking of a
person before deciding their fate. Some argue that extreme vetting helps to strengthen the social and
political fabric of our country and to define the common set of values that distinguishes us as
Americans (Source D). Unfortunately, this is not all extreme vetting does. Mostafa Hassoun, a Syrian
refugee who experienced vetting before it became extreme , states that the US and UN asked about my
family, my politics, my hobbies, my childhood, my opinions of the U.S., and even my love life
(Source E). This process would be reasonable if it wasn t so thorough that it took an average of 18 24
months (Source E). Source E also states that by the end of the process, Hassoun felt that nobody in the
world knows me better than the United States government . A more extreme vetting process than this
non extreme practice would be unnecessary. The same order that calls for extreme vetting suspends
visas for the citizens of seven predominantly Muslim countries (Source E). This order is not meant to
only strengthen the social and political fabric of our country . It is discrimination coming from distrust
of Muslims as a whole on the part of the US government. This is a situation where, instead of being
xenophobic, the US should practice xenia. Although the government would ideally let in all the
strangers in need of help, as xenia states, it is unrealistic that they could be able to do this. However,
this does not mean they have to turn away so many people. Instead, they should try to let in as many
people as they can and to help to find safe living places for those who they are unable to take

The Importance Of Being Successful As A Student
What is considered to have the key to success? Quoted by Charlie White The most important thing is
being passionate about what you re doing and always give it your all. That is the key to success. All
students have had the over whelming amount of stress to be successful. Stressing to get the perfect
score on a major grade or finding the determination to do a challenging assignment. We wonder if all
of our routines and tips used for school work actually guarantee our success as a student. As it may
only help somewhat and not give us the result we desire. Our mindset and amount of work provided
guarantees our success. Being successful as a student requires determination, preparing for situations
you will encounter as a student, and stopping procrastination in its tracks.
First off, as a successful student you need to have a positive outlook on each situation you are given.
To succeed by trying your best is a part of determination. As students if we don t have any
determination than what do we have left to get any work completed? We have to have motivation to
get through doing any type of work provided. If we don t get any work done it means, we have
incomplete the task given which is not being successful or putting in your 100% effort. Being
determined requires getting task done efficiently and accomplishing goals. A real life situation of this
can be found everywhere and in everything you do. Determination can be found in school, work, or in
everyday activities you

The Roman Colosseum
The Roman Colosseum is one of the great wonders of ancient Rome. Built by Emperor Titus
Vespasian in AD 72 and finished in AD 80, the main parts of the colosseum still stand today. The
massive arena could hold up to 80,000 spectators. The colosseum provided a large gathering place for
many types of events, much like sports arenas do in the modern age.
The Roman Colosseum was an entertainment venue for Roman citizens. Different events were held in
the colosseum such as gladiator fights and exotic animal fights. The colosseum was even rumored to
have had a mock sea battle with floating ships. Gladiators were slaves and soldiers from foreign lands
that were conquered by the Romans. Animals of many types were brought to the colosseum

about food and management. First I worked in Francisco s Tex Mex Restaurant while I was still in
High School. Then, after graduating I changed to Cotton Patch Cafe because they could fit my

Consequently, this causes the prep cook to not follow recipes. One reason customers come back is

Emma s View Of Love
Emma Bovary allows herself to be destroyed by the people she encounters and her obsession with
falling in love. Emma is not happy with herself and her relationship so she looks for other people to
fill the void. Emma never really realizes that she is the root of all of the troubles in her life. If she were
more in touch with reality, she would realize that she needs to work on herself before blaming her love
interests for not being like the men that she has read about in the past. Emma has a very unrealistic
perception of love. Emma is unable to fall in love with anyone because she will always be dissatisfied.
She destroyed her own marriage before it even started because of her preconceived idea of love.
Charles is absolutely in love with Emma and would do anything for her but she does not feel the same
way about him due to her fairytale idea of love. It seems as if she is not capable of separating her real
life romances from the romance novels that she read when during her time at the convent.
In Gustave Flaubert s novel, Madame Bovary, Emma Bovary is unknowingly a slave to her desires.
Emma is so infatuated with the thought of falling in love that it causes her to experience many
problems in every aspect of her life. For example, Emma is married to Charles Bovary, however, she
is not particularly in love with him. Most people get married because they are in love with each other

Character Foils For Creon In Antigone
In the play, Antigone, written by Sophocles, King Creon of Thebes sentences his niece, Antigone, to
death for burying her brother, Polyneices, even after the act had been declared a crime. Like father,
like son, Creon expected his son, Haemon to follow his decisions and agree with him, wholeheartedly.
Haemon, however, did not agree with the death sentence given to his beloved fiancée. The conflicting
opinions of father and son reveals not only the theme of pride in the play, but how this pride affected
Creon s interactions, as well as how choices made from those interactions directly lead to his tragic
downfall. It is very easy to find character foils for Creon in Antigone, as it serves to develop Creon s
character and show just what his role in his own tragedy was. From his first scene, Creon was
unwilling to accept anyone else s opinion but his own, accusing the guard of greed and treason. This
remains true when his son, Haemon, confronts Creon about Antigone s punishment. Although Haemon
claims to fully accept the rule of his father, this does not stop him from criticizing his actions. When
Creon questions if Antigone is not suffering from the same disease as evil men, Haemon brings to his
father s attention the fact that the townspeople do not agree that Antigone should be punished for her

New Utopia Research Paper
The New Utopia In the New Utopia, surveillance cameras will no longer be consider an act of
violation of civil liberties or an invasion of privacy, but it will be the norm; surveillance cameras will
be consider no different than what we nowadays consider a stop sign, a traffic light, or even the posted
speed limit on the road way. To be able to stop crimes from happening, there is a need for law
enforcement officers to be able to predict that a crime will occur in order to prevent it from happening.
As human nature, we always tend to push the limits, if we can commit a crime and get away with it,

ago, the thought of having traffic lights or stop signs at every intersection to direct the movement of

Haier Case Study
Haier Case Study
1. Discuss the primary reasons why Haier moves from a single and dominant business strategy to a
diversified strategy.
The single and dominant business strategy, which denote relatively low levels of diversification, more
fully diversified firms are classified into related and unrelated categories. A firm is related through its
diversification when there are several links between its business units; for example, units may share
products or services, technologies, or distribution channels. The more links among businesses, the
more constrained is the relatedness of diversification. Unrelateness refers to the absence of direct links
between businesses.

5) Another example of creating value by using a related diversification strategy was when Haier
applied innovation to product design and production from the Liebherr Corporation of Germany. This
strategic move created value by not only competing and expanding its product categories, but also by
creating market needs. (pg. 7) The activity sharing and market need helped create product
breakthroughs like washing machines that operated without detergent or water, and refrigerators that
needed no compressors. (pg. 8) Another example of creating value was when Haier entered a strategic
business alliance with Sanyo. Sanyo wanted to increase its competiveness in China taking advantage
of Haier s extensive distribution network, whereas Haier hoped to enter the Jampanese market by
utilizing Sanyo s distribution and service centres s. (pg. 12) In the end Zhang Ruimin utilized this
diversification strategy in an attempt to gain market power. B.Also discuss how Haier can use

because it can protect the lives of innocent people and animals when used for good. One day, if a

Political organization in China
Dynasty rise and falls characterized China s ancient political organizations (Kissinger Henry 88). The
dynasty era began during the Xia dynasty in around 2100 1600 BC and ended when the Republic of
China government was formed in the year 1949. Their political organization was hereditary, hence the
name dynasty. This meant that when the king or the emperor died the succession for the throne would
occur in the same family line; mainly from father to son. There were some occasions, however, when
a non blood relative would assume the leadership positions. Nevertheless, this was in very rare
instances. This kind of political organization and ruling to some extent might have promoted unity of
the various kingdoms as per the time; although this was not always the case. There are some instances
when the country Kingdom split and later merged again through conquests and war.
The ancient China was characterized by many dynasties (Kissinger Henry 72). The Xia dynasty was
the first. The Shang dynasties succeed the Xia dynasty (1600 1046). Then there was the Zhou
Dynasty. It was followed by the

leftover parts from the Gustav, but the part was never used for the Gustav gun. The reason they
thought it was the Gustav was that there were large muzzles scattered all around. You would think
they would have destroyed they, Gustav because it used 4 railroad tracks to get around and it was 47
meters long or 155 feet. It would probably be easier today to find a 1488 ton gun, but back then you

METHODS. The study plans to use CRISPR/Cas9 technology in order to edit our genes through full
exonal correction. This will result in full length dystrophin proteins. Next, the quality of the IPSC
derived myogenic progenitor cells will be tested through treatment of the DMD (Duchenne muscular
dystrophy) phenotype. Skin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

PURPOSE. The purpose of this study is to examine how CRISPR genome editing technology can be
used to change heart muscle dystrophin expression and enable proper muscle function in dystrophic
mice. Dystrophic cardiomyopathy is the most common cause of death in patients with DMD
(Duchenne muscular dystrophy).
METHODS. SaCas9 (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat associated 9 form
staphylococcus aureus) were clustered together with RNA into a vector (adeno associated virus
vector). The vector was then inserted into the mdx/Utr+/ baby mice.
RESULTS. CRISPR mediated genome editing was able to cut out the mutated exon 23 found in DMD
mice. Immunofluorescence was used to demonstrate that the dystrophin protein expression was indeed
reestablished. Approximately 40% of dystrophin protein expression was regained. Muscle function as
well as expression was also reestablished. Cardiac muscle contractility improved significantly.
KEY RELEVANCE. This information which the study provides is useful because it exhibits
confirmation that CRISPR mediated genome editing can be used as a possible method for repairing
dystrophic cardiomyopathy anatomically as well as for other genetic diseases.

Psychoanalysis And Psychoanalysis Of Trauma
This chapter starts out about a young woman who was a prisoner from the middle east who stated, If I
talked about it, I would feel that it would happen again here. She was tortured both physically and
mentally. Through all she has been through she finds it very difficult to even think about
communicating to someone about it. It shows that their needs to be a sympathy towards the
occurrences of trauma. They live with the pain deep inside. They have a hard time erasing it and need
to learn to leave it in the past. They also do not believe they can get better. Ways to help these patients
is with psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis as well as cognitive techniques.
Psychoanalytical focuses on the effects of trauma in relation to their personality and other dealings in
their life. Trauma is the crushing of the individuals self worth leaving them feeling helpless in a
terrible situation as said by Freud. Freud said that victims of trauma relive the situations they
encountered in their mind. Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) main defense mechanism and coping
method is dissociation. The symptoms of this disorder are recurrent dreams and intrusions of
memories. The victim tries to avoid the memories and implications of their trauma to treat the victim
must retell and experience the trauma but in a safe controlled space. Effects from trauma can last for
many, many years. Those who suffer may not have the strength to recover. The torturer is making the
victim feel helpless. They prey on their fears. The victim feels they have no safe place and they may
become submissive to their torturer. They are always in fear of when their death will occur. They lose
their sense of safety and happy memories. It is replaced by fear, pain, and depression. During torture
the victim may also feel guilty or bad about themselves since they may have given information that
would cause pain and suffering to someone else. The fear for their own life makes it hard to decide
what to do in a torture situation. There are different effects of torture on the victims personality and
their life according to the Swiss Psychoanalyst Amati. One, the relation to the body is destroyed. They
endure tremendous pain, stress and near

  • 2. Renewable Sources Of Energy And Energy The world today is a place of rapid progress and scientific advancement, which has been going strong for the last few decades. This period will gradually begin to slow down and eventually stop altogether because the world will, quite literally, run out of fuel. Right now, the majority of all the energy used in the day to day lives and operations of the entire world population are nonrenewable. This energy is created from the fossil fuels: coal, petroleum and natural gas. Fossil fuels are still cheap and high in supply, but the rate at which we are consuming them, which is only expected to increase, vastly exceeds the rate at which they regenerate. This creates the aforementioned problem of mankind running out of the required natural resources to fuel its own energy demands. The only solution to this problem that is possible, is to begin placing more influence renewable sources of energy and doing so as soon as possible. Renewable energy sources include solar, wind, hydroelectric and geothermal power. Each of these are insignificant alone, but as a group they become a viable alternative to nonrenewable energy sources. Together, they have the potential to replace the fossil fuels as our primary provider of energy. Although there are many that argue against the use of renewable energy it is vital that the United States government makes the implementation and widespread use of renewable energy sources mandatory. Experts have known and understood that nonrenewable energy sources ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Physics Of Team Fortress 2 Research And Presentation The Physics of Team Fortress 2 Research and Presentation AP Physics 1 Carlos Arias Paradise Valley High School 5 December 2016 Abstract Arthritis is a medical condition that causes joint inflammation, stiffness, and resulting pain. This disease affects an estimated 40 million Americans, with a positive correlation towards old age. Opening medication bottles can be difficult for arthritis patients who struggle to open twist lids, snap lids, and click locks. Janet Kramer is an arthritis patient that struggles to open her medicine bottles. This solution uses a sliding mechanism that requires no twisting motion and little force. The mechanism is operated by pulling on a rod, and pushing down. The downwards motion creates a class one lever that uses the shell of the bottle as a fulcrum. The effort force is magnified by a mechanical advantage to lift the cap. This solution will be designed according to design specifications and evaluated with the performance benchmarks. If the concept performs unsatisfactorily, the design process will reiterate until the problem is solved for the stakeholder. • 4. Examples Of Dynamic Equivalency For over 400 years now, the Authorized Version of the Bible or as commonly known as the King James Version has been used by the church of Jesus Christ. Christianity, along with other religions has a governing document or book in which it governs their walk of faith. For Christians, this book is the Bible or also known as the Word of God. Throughout the scriptures, it is clear that God promises to preserve His words (Psalms 12:6 7). In addition, He commands to not add or take away from his words (Deuteronomy 4:1 2), that God cares about every one of His words (Proverbs 30:5 6), in which the words will never pass away (Mark 13:31), and finally that God will curse those who change His Word (Revelation 22:18 19). John Jeffcoat a writer for greatcite.com ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Formal equivalency is a word for word translation where it is conservative which translates words as accurate as possible from the first language. Dynamic equivalency is meaning for meaning or phrase to phrase . This means that the translator is writing down the best paraphrase he could make based on his own judgment. This is dangerous because you have to trust his understanding of what the text is saying rather then you making the interpretation. This is beneficial because it is easy to read and follow but has many doors open to skewed meanings. Jennifer Beatson, in the journal titled, Christian Scholar s Review Issue 34.1 of fall 2004, She reviews The Word of God in English: Criteria for Excellence in Bible Translation by Leland Ryken. Ryken cites the trends leading to a large growing of English Bible translations, and the need to evaluate their merits. One of his main criticisms is the dynamic equivalence used in practically all modern translations. He claims that these works, (1) they lack literary excellence, and (2) they do not faithfully translate the original biblical texts (Beatson 134). He holds that only formal or word for word translations should be used because they hold true to the original text and author. Beatson states that Ryken goes back into the history of the English Bible and demonstrates how the KJV upholds the essentially literal translations of the Old and New Testaments. The translators of the KJV gave Christians the literal Word of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Summary of proposed research Seismic hazard analysis is an important tool in mitigating risks in the event of a disastrous seismic event like an earthquake. This can be done by studying the behaviour of the soil in locations that are within seismically active regions using several geophysical methods. This project employs the use the cost effective microtremor method in studying the site response in Kathmandu, Nepal, following the April 25, 2015 M7.8 Gorkha. Analysis of the field data will yield information that could be used by the Government and people of Kathmandu, Nepal, in reviewing their building construction codes and other policies to minimize casualties in the event of an earthquake. This is very important considering the location of Kathmandu which is within the seismically active Himalayas. Statement of the problem Kathmandu lies within the tectonically active Himalayan mountain range, which is a continental continental convergent boundary. Kathmandu is located in an approximately 500 m deep sedimentary basin, which is likely to amplify earthquake shaking (Paudyal et al, 2012). In addition to using up fossil fuels and other resources, plastic products create litter, hurt marine life, and threaten the basis of life on earth. There is over 45 million tons of plastics per year and nearly every piece of plastic ever made still exists today because of its long life properties. Biodegradable plastics could be an effective solution to all of these problems. Biodegradable plastics are a much better choice than non biodegradable plastics because they are friendlier to the earth and the environment. Biodegradable plastics break down faster, can be recycled easier and are non toxic. With these characteristics of biodegradable plastics, we could help save lives and the environment as well and reduce the threat plastics give to marine life. Plastic, the wonder material that we use for everything, is perhaps the most harmful of this trash because it does not readily break down in nature but if it is biodegradable, these plastics break down faster so they have a much shorter effect on the earth, and they will degrade completely. • 16. Arcadia by Tom Stoppard Shows The Dangers and Chaos and... While Arcadia by Tom Stoppard is a play that intertwines a lot of humor with mathematical and scientific reasoning, it also conveys a message regarding the dangers and chaos of absolute knowledge. Much of what occurs in Acadia relates to the article The Dangers of Certainty: A Lesson From Auschwitz written Simon Critchley. In today s modern society, Stoppard s play is about why scientists proceed in researching concepts that yield nothing; it is about why people associate themselves with endearment in face of the disruption that it can cause. The characters in the play struggle, and often fail in their attempts for certainty, falling into irritation with others. Humans, by nature, are constantly seeking definite answers; a mentality that allows one to address an issue, find a solution, and continue on. Humans have a hard time accepting that, sometimes, there are things for which one will never have a definite answer. As the author, Simon Critchley, states, Insisting on certainty, by contrast, leads ineluctably to arrogance and dogma based on ignorance. This can be seen in many instances throughout the play, where many of the characters grow very irritated; Bernard, for instance, tries to prove his theory that Byron killed Ezra Chater. In his attempt, he grows ineluctably arrogant, especially when he finds that he is indeed wrong, and fails at his quest for certainty: Fucked by dahlia! Do you think? Is it open and shut? The theoretical yield is the expected or maximum amount of product you should see in a reaction8. Ideally, the percent yield should be one hundred. The results of the percent yield calculations are indicated in Table 5. For the two detergents, the percent yields were lower than one hundred. This could have occurred because of many different errors during the experiment. One of those errors could have been that some of the product might have been left behind in a beaker when it was transferred over into the vacuum filtration considering the fact that the product was a paste and therefore stuck to the beaker. Another error could have occurred during the vacuum filtration. Some of the extremely small particles could have managed to pass through the filter paper therefore causing the overall products final mass to decrease. The percent yield for the soap made from olive oil was extremely large and abnormal. This could have occurred due to the presence of impurities9. The product could have still contained some of the solvent because it might not have become a homogenous mixture. A slave, according to many of the laws in the individual slave states during the 19th century, was an article of property, a thing, and an object not human. However, according to another, the 3/5 Compromise of 1787, a slave was worth 3/5 of a white man. The population of the Southern states was heavily African, and this compromise enabled them to count those slaves as 3/5 of a citizen in order to get more representation in Congress. • 23. Analysis Of Isolation In The Searchers On the Threshold of Isolation The film The Searchers (1956) opens with the score s theme, What makes a man to wander?/What makes a man to roam? The song s lyrics sets the premise for a story of a man, Ethan Edwards, who battles questions of purpose and identity as he takes on a multi year rescue mission. The film culminates with another verse from the song, A man will search his heart and soul/Go searchin way out there/His peace of mind he knows he ll find/But where, oh Lord, Lord where?/Ride away, ride away, ride away. Ethan completes his rescue mission, but fails to locate peace of mind. His inability to securely locate a sense of belonging and his loss of loyalties create the character s isolation The final scene, showing Ethan at the threshold of a home, exemplifies Ethan s alienation. The Searcher s final scene shows Ethan on the front porch of the Jorgensen s frontier house. The viewer can only see blackness within the home. The light from the expanse of frontierland outside causes Ethan s shadow to mix with the darkness of the home s interior. At the house s threshold, Ethan appears in contrapposto form, a term associated with Classical sculptures when a person s weight is supported by only one leg. In contrapposto, the arm opposite to the supporting leg is tense or engaged while the other arm hangs freely. This position is meant to convey a natural, relaxed pose. But as a result of Ethan s engaged arm holding the arm meant to be at ease, Ethan appears anxious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Persuasive Essay On The 14th Amendment The Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States is perhaps the most sweeping and has likely impacted the general jurisprudence of the Supreme Court the most of any other amendment. This is because, where all other right protecting amendments protect something specific, the fourteenth amendment was designed to ensure that states guaranteed due process rights, applied the law equally, and protected the privileges [and] immunities of citizens of the United States. Because of this language, the Fourteenth Amendment appears to be and to some extent is simply the application of the Fifth Amendment, and through selective incorporation, the rest of the Bill of Rights. To that end, the Fourteenth Amendment possesses a fortuitous expansion to the simple due process right: the right to equal protection of the laws. Laws that appear to violate the Equal Protection Clause thusly receive the same kind of scrutiny that other fundamental rights are given. The Fourteenth Amendment is relatively new compared to the Bill of Rights, having been passed in 1868. The first major case that dealt with the amendment were the Slaughterhouse Cases in 1872. In those cases, a group of slaughterhouses that were put out of business by a Louisiana law creating a monopoly claimed that they were denied equal protection under the law. Though the court ultimately denied their claim primarily on the basis that the Privileges and Immunities Clause does not apply to the states, they also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Theme Of Loss In Chaucer s Poem Book Of The Duchess In Geoffrey Chaucer s dream vision poem, The Book of the Duchess, the theme of loss seems to be very prevalent. Loss can be found in the dreamer s lack of sleep, Alcyone s loss of her husband, and the Knight s loss of his lady. Loss can also be noticed in events outside of the book with the death of Blanche, Duchess of Lancaster and wife of Chaucer s benefactor, John of Gaunt. This poem is believed to be an elegy that was composed for one of Blanche s later commemoration services. I do agree with that theory and have found evidence to support it. Supporting evidence Supporting evidence Body 2. Blanche s elegy There is evidence that seems to suggest that this poem was written by Chaucer to commemorate the death of Blanche of Lancaster. The first part of this is that there has been may handwritten notes that suggest The Book of the Duchess had been written at the request of John of Gaunt. Secondly, evidence is in the date in which the poem should have been written. This was around 1368 1371. The death of Blanch occurred on September 12, 1368 and the poem would have been written afterwards for one of her commemoration services. The exact date of the poem is unclear, but it should have been written before 1971. In that year, the Duke had married Constance of Castile. Gwen M. When following xenia, one should invite strangers into one s home, treat the strangers respectfully, bathe them, feed them, and offer them a place to stay until they are ready to continue their travels. Hosts should also offer to aid guests on the remainder of their journey and give them a parting gift. The concept of xenia is still very relevant in the 21st century US, particularly to the current refugee crisis and the government s strict position on immigration. Some argue that extreme vetting helps to strengthen the social and political fabric of our country and to define the common set of values that distinguishes us as Americans (Source D). Unfortunately, this is not all extreme vetting does. Mostafa Hassoun, a Syrian refugee who experienced vetting before it became extreme , states that the US and UN asked about my family, my politics, my hobbies, my childhood, my opinions of the U.S., and even my love life (Source E). This process would be reasonable if it wasn t so thorough that it took an average of 18 24 months (Source E). Source E also states that by the end of the process, Hassoun felt that nobody in the world knows me better than the United States government . A more extreme vetting process than this non extreme practice would be unnecessary. The same order that calls for extreme vetting suspends visas for the citizens of seven predominantly Muslim countries (Source E). This order is not meant to only strengthen the social and political fabric of our country . It is discrimination coming from distrust of Muslims as a whole on the part of the US government. This is a situation where, instead of being xenophobic, the US should practice xenia. Although the government would ideally let in all the strangers in need of help, as xenia states, it is unrealistic that they could be able to do this. Quoted by Charlie White The most important thing is being passionate about what you re doing and always give it your all. That is the key to success. All students have had the over whelming amount of stress to be successful. Stressing to get the perfect score on a major grade or finding the determination to do a challenging assignment. We wonder if all of our routines and tips used for school work actually guarantee our success as a student. As it may only help somewhat and not give us the result we desire. Our mindset and amount of work provided guarantees our success. Being successful as a student requires determination, preparing for situations you will encounter as a student, and stopping procrastination in its tracks. First off, as a successful student you need to have a positive outlook on each situation you are given. To succeed by trying your best is a part of determination. As students if we don t have any determination than what do we have left to get any work completed? We have to have motivation to get through doing any type of work provided. If we don t get any work done it means, we have incomplete the task given which is not being successful or putting in your 100% effort. The conflicting opinions of father and son reveals not only the theme of pride in the play, but how this pride affected Creon s interactions, as well as how choices made from those interactions directly lead to his tragic downfall.
