This document describes research on developing assistive communication technologies for elderly people with hearing, speech, or memory impairments due to aging. It outlines the motivation, goals, and design of prototypes called OLIVE and H.O.P.E. that aim to provide assistive and cost-effective mobile systems using images, text, and speech recognition to help overcome common barriers elderly users face in communication. The systems are intended to be personalized to meet different user needs through contextual navigation and a growing vocabulary adapted from frequent usage.
Net neutrality ensures that internet service providers treat all data on the internet equally and not discriminate or charge differently by user, content, website, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or method of communication. Without net neutrality rules, your internet provider could choose to block access to services and applications that they don't like or allow certain services or websites to pay for preferential treatment like faster speeds. Net neutrality helps ensure equal access to the internet for all.
