Essay on Qualitative and Quantitative Research
Qualitative and Quantitative study designs both can be beneficial in research design. They both
provide valuable options for researchers in the field. These techniques can either be used separately in
a research study or they can be combined to achieve maximum information. This paper will define the
terms qualitative and quantitative; describe the similarities and differences between each; discuss how
qualitative and/or quantitative research designs or techniques could be used in the evaluation of my
proposed research; and discuss why linking analysis to study design is important. Quantitative studies
are primarily numbers based. They deal with large cohort groups as well as analyze large amounts of
data. A quantitative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When both research designs are used together, more information can be gathered. Mixed methodology
uses the numerical portion of the quantitative study design in combination with the descriptive aspect
of the qualitative study. There are many similarities between these two designs, which make them
compatible with each other. Whilst quantitative research may be mostly used for testing theory it can
also be used for exploring an area and generating hypotheses and theory. Similarly qualitative research
can be used for testing hypotheses and theories even though it is mostly used for theory generation
(Hughes, 2006). Both of these designs may be similar with testing theory, they are also similar in the
tools that they use and how the data is analyzed. Qualitative data often includes quantification (eg
statements such as more than, less than, most as well as specific numbers). Quantitative (ie
questionnaire) approaches can collect qualitative data through open ended questions (Hughes, 2006).
These similarities are what make these two study designs compatible for each other. There are also
some differences between these study designs, which may cause some problems for the inexperienced
researcher. Quantitative research is objective; qualitative research is subjective. Quantitative research
seeks explanatory laws; qualitative research aims at

Profiling is a Necessary Means for Discovering and...
Many studies have been made in the field of criminology, concluding that profiling is a necessary
means for discovering and apprehending criminals. There are many different types of profiling and
many people think of profiling differently; however, all types of profiling does work and is proven to
help stop crime. This paper will explore the following: profiling and different forms of it, the closely
related stop and frisk policy, different cities that have proven statistics that profiling does work, how
airports are now profiling, and different serial killers that have been apprehended due to work from
profilers.
9/11 led to a re evaluation of racial profiling as a means of combating crime, and terrorism. Indeed,

They take what they know about an unknown suspect and his actions and try to generate additional
information (Grabianowski).
What exactly is profiling is what many people wonder and they don t always get the right definition.
What they usually think first is that it is racial profiling and it is bad, we should not do it, but that s
only one type of profiling and it is not necessarily bad in all cases. The Merriam Webster dictionary
defines it as, the act of or process of learning information about someone based on what you already
know. Under the narrow definition, racial profiling occurs when a police officer stops, questions,
arrests, and/or searches someone solely on the basis of the person s race or ethnicity. Critics typically
use this definition when condemning racial profiling, as do law enforcement agencies when denying
the existence of racial profiling (Cleary). Most people think that the profiling is a bad thing because of
controversial topics like NYC s stop and frisk policy and from what the liberal news puts out. But in
most cases profiling is good for communities and helps to catch criminals before they can do harm.
The main difference between what people think and what profiling is comes down to two words
disparity and discrimination.
Disparity and discrimination are closely related but there is one major difference between them that
sets them far apart. Disparity is

Prophecies In Macbeth
Background/Context: William Shakespeare is a creative mind and a creative body. He wrote Macbeth
in 1606, ten years before his death, and was the last of his short great tragedies. Shakespeare wrote
this play telling a story about how a drive for power will break a person s soul. It holds many blood
shedding references, and was a factual based play.
Characters Analysis:
Lady Macbeth Lady Macbeth is a young, elegant woman. She s kind and caring and the best role
model for young rulers. She s persuasive in the most deceiving ways. Starting the play fair, she
realized her husband was destined to become King of Cawdor. With that, she talked her beloved
husband into murdering the current king. This way, he will hold the crown sooner. Macbeth ... Show

simply cannot go poof. Another thing would be the witches in general. This statement proves them to
be real, or so said, and people are not physic and can tell the future, no. Natural events in this play
would be at the beginning again. It is sad, but true, that war is a nature thing in this world. Which this

Reflection Paper On Action Potentials
Thus far into my first semester of being admitted into the Respiratory program here at Wallace
community college, it has been a very hardcore, yet valuable learning experience. One that has taught
me many lessons but also helped me to grow into a better college student. There have been many
valuable and important lessons taught thus far into the program. But one that stood out to me the most
and one that I had the least amount of trouble with but was still yet challenging, was the
electrophysiology of the heart. In the beginning of the electrophysiology of the heart, it is taught that
the heart is contracted by a combination of generating and propagating action potentials. I have
learned that action potentials are electrical impulses that travel across the cell membranes in the heart.
These action potentials are one of many things that determines if the heart functions and quite frankly
if you live or not. According to Baylor Heart and Vascular Hospital, these contractions are what
triggers the events of an action potential which are also identical in skeletal muscles, cardiac muscle,
and neurons. To not get confused with the triggering effect , but a transmitted action potential is
technically called a nerve impulse. An action potential isn t always in a constant state of actively
moving around, the resting stage or resting membrane potential as it should be referred to, is the
electrical difference between both electrolytes from the inside of the cell membrane

Phoenix Jackson Obstacles In A Worn Path
Phoenix Jackson was the woman wrote about in the story A Worn Path. She displayed courageous
efforts and determination as she walked toward town. The lecture defined a phoenix as a bird that
regenerates itself after falling into flames (Bethel University, 2017). The story relates to that in the
sense that Miss Jackson doesn t let anything stand in her way and keeps pushing forward despite her
obstacles. There were many moments in the story where Phoenix could have given up and retreated
home. The first would have been the noises she heard in the bushes as she walked. The woods contain
many animals that can attack at any given time. An attack occurred when she encountered the dog.

Evaluating Kodak s Corporate Strategy
Background Eastman Kodak Company, headquartered in Rochester New York, was founded in 1889.
The corporation, now multinational and focusing on imaging and photographic equipment, posted
revenues in excess of $6 billion in 2011. During most of the 20th century Kodak was dominant in the
photographic film industry in 1976 it held 90% of the market but began a downward slide once the
Internet, digital cameras and computer processing grew. By 2007, Kodak ceased making a profit and
in January 2012 filed for bankruptcy protection and ceased making cameras, video cameras and began
to focus on the corporate digital imaging market (De La Merced, 2012). In evaluating Kodak s
corporate strategy from the mid 1980s onward, we find that there four major management paradigms

New Business Model Of College Students
College students who have to have certain kind of software for school often find themselves in a
predicament when they cannot afford software that they need for a class whether it be for an English
major or Graphics Design major. Students are facing a new business model where companies like
adobe and Microsoft Office are making their software into a monthly payment instead of a one time
pay for the software. Software companies should not have their software on a monthly payment for
students because low budgets, users rent not own, and is it worth it.
In general college students are broke, students are doing good to buy ramen noodles for themselves.
How could they pay over $50 a month for something like Adobe Creative Cloud, $30 a month for
Grammarly, or $75 a year for Microsoft Office? The C Net report talks about how software and web

Rite of Passage Ceremony
RITE OF PASSAGE
It is three days before my initiation ceremony. The day Mama says I become a woman. She is really
happy about it and I m supposed to be, but I m not. I have tried to delay this day for as long as
possible, but this year Papa put his foot down. I am already 17 years old and most girls go through the
ceremony at 14. All the girls in my age group have to go through this rite in order to make them
eligible for marriage. No woman in the village can get married without undergoing the rite of passage.
It is part of our tradition and the elders believe it ensures women do not stray from their marital
homes. They also believe you are unclean without it. People were already starting to whisper about me
as I was the last girl in my age group who not gone through it and my friends tease and look down on
me that I am not yet a woman.
My younger brother, Dide cannot be initiated into the Warrior class because he has an older sister who
is uncircumcised. This is the real reason Papa has refused to listen to me any longer. Dide has come of
age and he doesn t want me to delay his initiation. After my initiation ceremony, I would be getting
married. Papa has already someone picked out. I ve seen him a couple of times, my friends think I m
lucky to be getting married into his family. I don t think anything. Going through the initiation
ceremony and getting married would be the end of schooling for me. I know what is expected of me as
a female but I don t like it. When I told

The Value of Education Essay
The Value of Education
Learning and knowledge are highly prized in all societies, especially here in Ireland, where there is a
strong tradition of respect for education. The choices that individuals make when leaving school, in
particular whether to pursue higher education or not, are likely to have a long lasting effect on their
lifestyle. The main purposes for a University education involve: social, national and educational
purposes and for the individual personal purposes and moral development. These topics will be
addressed in the following paragraphs.
The two main institutions predominantly concerned with education are Universities and Schools. It
may be argued that the main purpose of Universities is to advance the ... Show more content on

The advantage of widespread education is the cultivation of international skills and attitudes,
contributing to the values of university education.
This intermingling of cultures and social differences causes a change in the attitudes and outlooks of
society. The levelling up of living standards in our economy has created a greater sense of human
dignity and freedom replacing an earlier and traditional view of inferiority. Opportunities for
education, leading to promotion at work are richer and more varied. Universal education has enhanced
individuals view of the world and has created an awareness of the stream of events in other parts of
the world. Which up to 1900 was prerogative of perhaps one fifth of the population. (K.G. Collier,
1959:33)
Not only does this diversity benefit social purposes but it also has certain national purposes. National
reforms in higher education were a result of Europe s ability to collect information from these diverse
Universities, and adapt to beneficial procedures. (Robbins report: 41) Consequently this encouraged
efficiency throughout the education system, due to high levels of mobility between different European
countries, and high standards were therefore demanded. These mutual exchanges of solutions to
higher education problems benefit Europe as a community and benefit our Universities both

Dog Sees God Play Analysis
Ohlone College Theatre and Dance Department knocked it out of the park with its provocative

debuted at the New York Fringe Festival in 2004, was performed in the fall of 2012. Dog Sees God is
a dramatization of Charles Schulz s Peanuts cartoon. These lovable characters are all grown up and
dealing with the insane world of high school. The main attraction, CB (Charlie Brown), is questioning
the existence of an afterlife after his dog dies (this was a big surprise). His friends are too involved in
their own drama and can t really help him, but a chance meeting with Beethoven (Schroeder), the
target of this group s bullying, offers CB solace and thus begins a friendship that will push teen angst

When Beethoven, an outcast to begin with, stands up for himself, Matt, being the school bully,

observed the same reaction ripple through the audience. This was exactly what the director wanted.
Navarre s intent was to make the audience feel deeply, with the hopes of making an impact that would

People think that computer science is the art of geniuses but the actual reality is the opposite, just
many people doing things that build on each other, like a wall of mini stones . (Knuth, 1968) When
looking at an Operating System one could often say that an Operating System is a large sum made up
of small separate parts. Much like how Knuth describes computer science being the wall of mini
stones . The Operating System, or the OS can be defined as software that communicates with the
hardware and allows other programs to run . (TechTerms.com, 2012) The Operating System makes use

model. But in all seriousness when it comes down to choosing one structure over the other and
questioning a company on why, they have chosen the one way over another, they will all give you a
different answer for a same effect or operation. However in saying that, if I today had to build a multi
million Rand computer company, I would have to agree that giving structure to your system and
separating it into mini stones (Knuth, 1968) would have to be the best and the safest way to do it.
Would it be the fastest? Maybe not but with the amount of pure knowledge people are gaining over the
years about hacking systems and stealing sensitive data I would never want all of my data in any one
of my systems to be at risk all the time. That is why I believe using a microkernel, or even a hybrid

Are People Truly Good At Heart
Are people truly good at heart or are people just born horrible. Anne Frank thought that people were
and I agree with her one hundred percent. You can t just judge people by what they portray since the
Germans were forcing people into their army, therefore the soldiers might have not wanted to harm the
Jews. After reading Anne Frank s diary, watching the movie, reading the play, and researching the
Holocaust I agree with Anne Frank s statement. The reasons that I agree are that the Holocaust won t
last forever, the soldier showed kindness to Otto Frank when they were packing up their belongings,

soldier gave even a little kindness when he had the chance. He didn t have to stop the other soldiers

reason is where it said that they had five minutes to get their things together. The soldiers didn t have
to allow them any time to pack up, but they did anyway. Anne s family could have had to go to the

Acute Stress Response
Abstract
People deal with stressful situations differently. However, there is an obvious fear when someone
suddenly encounters a frightening situation. The acute stress response is a sudden reaction of the body
prompted by a psychological disturbance over a short period. Most psychologists refer to the condition
as the fight or flight response. When a person experiences a sudden physical or mental scare, the
response is very fast. A person might decide to fight back the terrifying element or to run away, which
signifies the flight aspect of the response (Lee, 2004). By 1920, few people understand this concept
until Walter Cannon tried to establish the reason why an adrenaline rush occurs when an individual
encounters a distressing situation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the mind records such a situation, remembrances and flashbacks become automatic. There are
people who should not revisit a place that reminds them of the situation. Ordinarily, people with
traumatic stress disorder often remember an encounter by revisiting the place of the incidence. On the
other hand, people with acute stress response react in the same way even when they imaging that the
fear factor is around them during a particular time. The condition automatically increases the heart
beat and the blood pressure when an individual associates a scenario with the distressing condition
(Fink, 2000). Some people go to the extent of vomiting or increasing body temperatures because
certain images or objects cause fear in them. The people suffering from acute stress response are likely
to expect the outcomes of an action before engaging in an activity. Largely, this response is normal,
but there are people who sweat and shake before going through the exercise because they fear the
outcome of the activity. There is an element of associating the past with the present, which generates
fear while increasing

Analysis Of Pride And Fate In Oedipus Rex
A Subject of Pride and Fate
Although they are vastly different in their respective time periods and thus, culture, the stories of
Oedipus Rex and Monkey: Story of the West have managed to capture an aspect of the human
condition that has not changed over the millennia: the excess of pride. Humanity has also questioned
the impact and control over their lives, wondering if some omniscient, higher power influences their
lives or if man is truly in charge of paving their own destiny. Such philosophical thinking has also
surpassed time and space, taking harbor in literature and media. Such themes are present in the tale of
Oedipus Rex, written in 442 BCE in Athens, which details the story of a man fated to murder his
father and wed his mother (Puchner 705). Determined to save themselves from the prophecy
unfolding, Jocasta and Laius, Oedipus parents, had planned for the death of their cursed child by their
shepherd. However, mercy struck the heart of the shepherd and he brought the infant to a royal
household where they had raised Oedipus. As the prince of Corinth, Oedipus receives a message from
the oracle, confirmed by the Tiresias, the prophet, that he is the murderer from the prophecy. Driven
by self preservation due to his pride, Oedipus ignores such warnings causing the continuation of the
plague to destroy the city of Thebes. Not only had Oedipus allowed the suffering of a great
population, but also decides, in a further attempt to appease his prideful nature to

where it is known as one of the state s leading machinery corporation in supplying pumps,
machineries and various engineering products. After conducting the interview, I have understood
growth in MPM as increasing in employment and business sales/profit as well as involving in
government projects within Malaysia. MPM has been growing sustainably for 28 years employing
around 150 staff with the aim of growing 5 10% profit each year. MPM has been growing organically

According to Wickham (2006) process of growth model, MPM would be looking into financial growth
as the company focuses commercial activities such as profitability, sales and turnover. Besides,
strategic growth will be taken into account when competing with its competitors in its market industry
in creating or selling new products when compared with their competitors. After implementing the
theories in MPM, it helped me understand MPM s market analysis of rivalry among existing
competitors. Applying Churchill and Lewis model in MPM, it can be said that it is in between Stage
III: Success and Stage IV: Take off, as it has its own brand and have been sustained its business for
over 25 years (Churchill and Lewis, 1983). Over the years, MPM has expanded to more branches of
offices which shows that the company has attained economic health and has sufficient size to ensure
economic success. After applying frameworks and theories, it can be stated that in terms of growth in
a company, I have learnt that it can be applied and indicated differently in distinctive companies. To
exemplify, growth can mean increase in staff employment in a company whereas it can also mean
increase in production volume. However, it is clear that growth must be planned, organised, activated

The Salem Witch Trials And Its Impact On American Society
Did you know that the Salem witch trials resulted in the execution of only twenty people? Most people
believe that hundreds of people were executed during the Salem witch trials, which is often a very
common thought but in actuality only twenty people (mostly women) were executed. The Salem witch
trials was a huge part of American history, they are important to remember because they are probably
a crucial turning point for America, because before the trials religion and superstition were very
important and after the trials happened rational thinking became more and more important. The Salem
witch trials had such an impact on American people that they are still remembered and talked of in
today s society. These trials are still today widely thought of as being important, because they showed
an excellent example of how people hate or fear what they do not understand, which is still a behavior
that is seen in present society. The Salem Witch Trials had many causes which all could have been
prevented if the Puritan government would have taken the time to investigate the accusations of the
alleged crimes being committed. The Salem witch trials provide many interesting aspects to discuss
such as, the historical information on the Salem witch trials, how the Puritan government could have
prevented this by not accepting spectral evidence, and why the puritan government was so willing to
accept the accusations being made. The first interesting aspect of the Salem witch trials is the

Post Mission Bone Fractures
Bone: When astronauts go on to a long term space mission and remain in the reduced gravity
environment for a long time, there are some potential harmful influence to the bones, which include
bone lose, accelerated loss of bone minerals and increased chances for renal stones. It is also notifiable
that reduced gravity environment can, to some extent, give rise to possible post mission bone
fractures. There are some evidence and background to prove that there is strong correlation between
space flight and bone abnormality. First, it is noticed that bone loss accelerated for an astronaut. The
amount of bone loss for an astronaut in a single month, which is about 1 to 1.5 percent, is equal to that
for a postmenopausal women who did not receive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is very hard to achieve the perfect outcome although there are several methods to
accomplish it. One way to achieve it is to build a doughnut shaped habitation section which can be
used to offset the effect of gravity by rotating the spaceship which will provide a force pushing them
away from the center of rotation. However, there are several aspects that need to be taken into
consideration. First is that there has to be a source of energy to make the spaceship rotate in the first
space. Second, for those nonrotating parts, the friction will slow the rotation unless there is more
energy input. Third, such hypothesis is built on the possibility of building a very large spaceship with
large radius, which can be a big engineering challenge. Moreover, as the force generated is
proportional to the radius of the rotation and to the square of the rotation speed, for instance, to rotate
at 1 rpm requires a radius of 900m, the energy needed to maintain such rotation and rotation speed can
be tremendous and the structure also has to be strong enough to withstand such high speed rotation.
The second possible solutions is by acceleration which is based on Einstein s General Theory of
Relativity that gravity and acceleration are equivalent. Theoretically, if a spaceship can

How Did Tally Change In Uglies By Scott Westerfeld
Imagine living in a world where at the age of sixteen kids turn pretty and their life becomes perfect.
Everything in life becomes easy and carefree, sleep all day and party all night. That was the life Tally
was suppose to live. The whole concept of the operation was that once someone turns sixteen life
becomes perfect. Tally s trip to the Smoke was suppose to be easy once she arrived at her destination.
In the end, it turned into something Tally could have never imagined. Tally s personality had changed
without the operation. In Scott Westerfeld s book Uglies, Tally learns even the simple things in life can
end up being complex.
If Tally would have had the operation, her personality would have changed forever. In the book,
Maddy and Az are the ones who told Tally the government was putting brain lesions into new pretties
brains to change their opinions. Tally s opinions would have changed without her knowledge. Once
Tally knew she had been lied to her whole life, she never wanted to go back to the city. This shows
that Tally had learned a valuable life lesson, life is about more than just having a pretty face. Tally

The Problem Of Teacher Attrition
In conclusion, teacher attrition is a growing issue that is plaguing education. A proactive approach
needs to be taken to combat this growing issue instead of a reactive approach. Teachers are leaving the
profession by the thousands weekly. Students, school districts, and communities are all feeling the
effects of the lack of an adequate educational system, especially in high poverty, low performing
school districts. These are the districts that need quality teachers the most but are at the biggest
disadvantage because of difficulties attracting quality teachers to the areas. In order to close the
achievement gap, states are requiring teachers to be highly qualified. Highly qualified means teachers
have graduated from a four year institute and completed a teacher certification program. States and
school districts are required to notify parents if their child s teacher is not highly qualified. States and
school districts feel that highly qualified teachers translates to increased student achievement. The
public and the states has two varying views on what it means to be a highly qualified teacher. The
state says that a highly qualified teacher has completed a four year institute and teacher certification
program. The public feels that a highly qualified teacher is one that possess classroom management
skills, knowledgeable of the subject matter they teach, understand how student learn, and monitor and
assess student progress. Student achievement is the main

It is no coincidence that it is called poor health. What I mean is that the people who have it hardest in
this country, those with the lowest incomes, have the worst health. It could just as easily be called
minority health, rather than poor health, because the majority of the people living in poverty are racial
or ethnic minorities. Many racial minorities in the US suffer from poor health, but not because they
have worse genetics, rather from worse educational opportunities. This is a problem of all those in
poverty, but since a disproportionate amount of those in poverty are minorities; I am focusing my

Although there are a few race related diseases, such as sickle cell anemia, the illnesses that are killing
the minority population are environment related, like Coronary Heart Disease. In a study done by Alan
Goodman, he cites four important points about race and genetics:
1. The concept of race is based on the idea of fixed, ideal and unchanging types
Racial categories date back to the days of ancient empires, and haven t changed significantly since
then, despite the huge changes in cultures since those times. There has obviously been a huge amount
of racial mixture since those times, and the concept of race now is just an archaic social construct.
2. Human Variation is continuous
These racial categories are completely arbitrary. There is no way a clear line can be drawn between the
races, and all races relate on a gradient today.
3. Human Variation is nonconcordant
What he means by this is that traits vary independently of other traits. Since race only really correlates
with skin, hair, and eye color, there is no basis for the claim that certain diseases go along with a
certain race. Sickle cell anemia may affect equatorial Africans, but also Greeks and Turks. This shows
how the traits vary independently.
4. Within Group Variation is much greater than variation among races
There are many studies that show within closely related racial groups, like Hopi Indians, there is only

In Class, We Discussed Three Different Possibilities Of
In class, we discussed three different possibilities of the meaning of Gwendolyn Brooks s story The
Mother. The first and most probable interpretation of this story is that it is narrated by a mother who
has gone through a miscarriage and is trying to warn other mothers not to get abortions because they
will regret it. This interpretation contains the greatest amount of solid evidence and makes the most
sense. The other two, while less plausible, still have some argument for them. The second theory is
that the story is narrated by a mother who has undergone an abortion and is living through the
heartache of it, and is now trying to convince other mothers to not do this. The third, and least
plausible meaning, is that this is narrated by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It explains that the child was born, physically brought into this world, and yet it didn t live. This what
a stillborn child is. A stillborn falls under the category of a miscarriage; it is essentially a child that has
been born dead. Furthermore, Brooks writes If I poisoned the beginnings of your breaths, / Believe
that even in my deliberateness I was not deliberate, (lines 20 21). This evidence suggests that the
mother is blaming herself for the miscarriage. She may think it was something she did, or something
she didn t do, that caused the loss of her child. In pregnancy, there are things the mother can do that
may cause harm to the fetus, such as smoking, drinking alcohol, or any number of things. Also, if
necessary precautions aren t taken, it may have adverse effects on the child. When a mother goes
through a situation as traumatic as losing their child, it is normal for her to blame herself. Since
Brooks explicitly stated that the narrator was not deliberate, it leads us to believe that it was a
miscarriage because he/she had no intentions of hurting the child. Another example Brooks includes
is, ...I have eased / My dim dears at the breasts they could never suck. (lines 12 13). These lines are
telling us that after the child was born, she may have held it to her chest, but because the child had not
survived, it could not suck. This makes sense because typically after a child is

Examples Of Blind Obedience In A Few Good Men
The act of being blindly obedient is, while frowned upon, widely common throughout military
branches. Young trainees are taught to always follow orders, and never question their authority. In the
film A Few Good Men, this question is brought up in the murder case of Private William Santiago.
Private Louden Downey and Lance Corporal Harold Dawson were ordered to perform a Code Red on
Santiago because he broke the Marine Corps code. This code red ordered ended up killing Private
Santiago. The case against Dawson and Downey was sitting on the fact that the two soldiers simply
followed an order. This is not unlike the My Lai massacre described in the article, The My Lai
Massacre: A Military Crime of Obedience by Herbert C. Kelman and V. Lee Hamilton. The My Lai
massacre was a deadly attack on what was supposed to be the Vietcong, but turned out to be only
villagers. The article talks about blind obedience done through the steps of authorization,
routinization, and dehumanization. The article The Abu Ghraib Prison Scandal: Sources of Sadism by
Marianne Szegedy Maszak talks about the three traits of torture as well and the cause specifically of
blind obedience by our military. In A Few Good Men, Dawson and Downey are affected by the
motivation not to disobey an order as well as the three traits of torture to lead them to giving Santiago,
their platoon mate, a Code Red.

Comparison Of Genesis, The Gospel, And Theistic Evolution
Genesis, the Gospel, and Theistic Evolution
Introduction
Humans have asked questions about their origin and their purpose on earth for eons. The Bible tells
humans that God created them and explains their purpose. However, since the Renaissance, humanism
answers questions about origins by naturalistic means and science has been redefined in the process.
Most institutions of higher education and many individuals have adopted the naturalistic theory of
evolution to explain human origin without considering its effects on faith. In contrast to prevailing
thought at Goshen College, a literal six day creation is foundational to the Gospel message.
Combining evolution and Christianity makes one s faith less logical and opens one s ... Show more

Some theistic evolutionists prefer to be called evolutionary creationists. Most of the following
arguments against theistic evolution could also be applied to any combination of Christianity and
macroevolution (i.e. bacteria to human evolution), irregardless of its label.
Naturalism or Christianity as a Foundation for a System of Ethics
Theistic evolution meshes two worldviews, naturalism and Christianity, and each worldview lays a
foundation for a system of ethics and morality. Let us first examine more closely the foundation laid
by naturalism. Naturalism deifies chance. Random chance is responsible for life as we know it. In The
Beak of the Finch, evolutionist Jonathan Weiner writes, Natural selection leads to evolution. He
further explains that for natural selection to occur, the organisms most suited to their environment will
survive (1995, p. 128). The best adapted organisms are more likely to pass on their genetic
information while the less well adapted lose out in the great battle of life. Such a view of origins
establishes by extrapolation a moral and ethical foundation. If humans are only products of chance
evolution, they will naturally follow the instincts that have been ingrained in them for millions of
years. They will pass on their genetic information to as many offspring as possible. Because they have
gained great intelligence and

The Importance Of Prisons In Prison
A lot of people talk about someone before they get sentenced to prison, but do not ask about what goes
on while they serve time for their actions. Criminals rights are basically revoked during their
sentencing and not given back after. Whether it is the way they are treated by prison officials, voting
while in jail or when they get let free, and the way they are treated for the religion they follow. They
are overlooked by people who have right just because they are locked up and serving time.
Have you ever asked yourself how are criminals treated while they are serving time? Well if you have
ever asked yourself this questions the answer is poorly. Criminals are treated so poorly by prison
officials. In the article Prisoner Abuse: How Different are U.S. Prisons? they discuss how prisoners are
constantly being abused by their guards. The author states in regards to the way prison inmates are
treated that, In recent years, U.S. prison inmates have been beaten with fists and batons, stomped on,
kicked, shot, stunned with electronic devices, doused with chemical sprays, choked, and slammed face
first onto concrete floors by the officers whose job it is to guard them. . This is stuff people would
usually be sent to jail for doing but because prisoners are not taken as seriously as other people it is
just overturned. This is not a good thing because it does not go by the human rights that everyone has

The Road Of Immortality And Glory
The Road to Immortality and Glory
Gilgamesh and The Illiad are epics that tell a character s struggle to gain immortality and glory.
Gilgamesh and Achilles s motivations to gain immortality and glory are quite different. However, their
journeys in trying to achieve these things are quite the same. Through the journey of trying to obtain
immortality and glory, Gilgamesh and Achilles teach their audience the true way a person is able to
gain immortality and glory in life.
Although greatness, honor, and dignity are shared influences on the motivations of both characters,
their personal motivations for wanting to achieve such things are different. Gilgamesh s motivation
comes from the death of his companion, Enkidu. Gilgamesh states, Shall I not die too? Am I not like
Enkidu? Oh woe has entered my vitals! I have grown afraid of death, so I roam the steppe. (59. lines 3
5) Enkidu s death instills anguish and panic in Gilgamesh regarding his own fate. These feelings of
uncertainty and anxiety send Gilgamesh on a pursuit to find immortality, so that he can live forever.
Achilles, on the other hand, is motivated by glory, respect, and honor. It is imperative to Achilles that
he be known as the greatest warrior. This title is crucial to Achilles because of the immortal fame it
would bring him. Each character s motivation for wanting to personally gain superiority is different.

The Theory Of Multiple Intelligences
Introduction In this investigation related to intelligence cognitive and learning as a style of individual

Gardner developed the theory of multiple intelligences thirty years ago, explain the intelligence is the
profile and each individual has different ways to learn, he affirm has seven intelligences differ in their
thinking, feeling, and behavior. No two people are alike, yet no two people are unlike Gardner (1983).
Gardner s theory has been adopted by many schools, has an impact in the education system, a lot of
teacher s included on their bloom s taxonomy the different intelligences to understand how the
information is absorbed, processed, and retained during learning process, utilizing the tools to deliver
instruction effectively. There are environmental, cognitive and emotional variables that play an
important role in the learning process. Multiple Intelligences Theory A learning theory is an attempt to
describe how people and animals learn; thereby helping us understands the inherently complex
process of learning. Gardner theories of multiple intelligences should empower learners , not restrict
them to one modality of learning. He studies intelligence where individuals differ is in the strength of
these intelligences and in the ways in which such intelligences are involved and combined to carry out

Becoming A Writer
Writing, since I was a kid has been the essence of who I am and who I was. It fun, to look back. To
notice all the little things, all the misspelled words and oddly phrased writings of the years before now.
People change over time, they grow and become something that they never were before that very
second. And over time all the little things, all the time spent doing this and all the time spent doing
many other things just becomes history.
I have heard from many people that to become a better writer you have to read, which is
phenomenally true. You have to explore the different styles and genres if you re going to ever grow to
being a writer. Read non fiction, sci fi, horror, historical fiction, fanfiction, poetry, read anything you
can get your hands on. Some will be great and some won t be, but every chapter is a new step to take
in the path writers take. I remember as a child there were these huge rolling shelves of books that
would be open to read from in the classroom. I dragged one of those uncomfortable chairs inside and
sat down. I d reach up and grab the books surrounding me. Most devoured and only the best savoured.
I still can t believe I remember that from all those years ago. I have an addiction to it, the creation of
lives lived only in a different place, a different fiction from our own. ... Show more content on

  • 2. Essay on Qualitative and Quantitative Research Qualitative and Quantitative study designs both can be beneficial in research design. They both provide valuable options for researchers in the field. These techniques can either be used separately in a research study or they can be combined to achieve maximum information. This paper will define the terms qualitative and quantitative; describe the similarities and differences between each; discuss how qualitative and/or quantitative research designs or techniques could be used in the evaluation of my proposed research; and discuss why linking analysis to study design is important. Quantitative studies are primarily numbers based. They deal with large cohort groups as well as analyze large amounts of data. A quantitative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When both research designs are used together, more information can be gathered. Mixed methodology uses the numerical portion of the quantitative study design in combination with the descriptive aspect of the qualitative study. There are many similarities between these two designs, which make them compatible with each other. Whilst quantitative research may be mostly used for testing theory it can also be used for exploring an area and generating hypotheses and theory. Similarly qualitative research can be used for testing hypotheses and theories even though it is mostly used for theory generation (Hughes, 2006). Both of these designs may be similar with testing theory, they are also similar in the tools that they use and how the data is analyzed. Qualitative data often includes quantification (eg statements such as more than, less than, most as well as specific numbers). Quantitative (ie questionnaire) approaches can collect qualitative data through open ended questions (Hughes, 2006). These similarities are what make these two study designs compatible for each other. There are also some differences between these study designs, which may cause some problems for the inexperienced researcher. Quantitative research is objective; qualitative research is subjective. Quantitative research seeks explanatory laws; qualitative research aims at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Profiling is a Necessary Means for Discovering and... Many studies have been made in the field of criminology, concluding that profiling is a necessary means for discovering and apprehending criminals. There are many different types of profiling and many people think of profiling differently; however, all types of profiling does work and is proven to help stop crime. This paper will explore the following: profiling and different forms of it, the closely related stop and frisk policy, different cities that have proven statistics that profiling does work, how airports are now profiling, and different serial killers that have been apprehended due to work from profilers. 9/11 led to a re evaluation of racial profiling as a means of combating crime, and terrorism. Indeed, many people who have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They take what they know about an unknown suspect and his actions and try to generate additional information (Grabianowski). What exactly is profiling is what many people wonder and they don t always get the right definition. What they usually think first is that it is racial profiling and it is bad, we should not do it, but that s only one type of profiling and it is not necessarily bad in all cases. The Merriam Webster dictionary defines it as, the act of or process of learning information about someone based on what you already know. Under the narrow definition, racial profiling occurs when a police officer stops, questions, arrests, and/or searches someone solely on the basis of the person s race or ethnicity. Critics typically use this definition when condemning racial profiling, as do law enforcement agencies when denying the existence of racial profiling (Cleary). Most people think that the profiling is a bad thing because of controversial topics like NYC s stop and frisk policy and from what the liberal news puts out. But in most cases profiling is good for communities and helps to catch criminals before they can do harm. The main difference between what people think and what profiling is comes down to two words disparity and discrimination. Disparity and discrimination are closely related but there is one major difference between them that sets them far apart. Disparity is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Reflection Paper On Action Potentials Thus far into my first semester of being admitted into the Respiratory program here at Wallace community college, it has been a very hardcore, yet valuable learning experience. One that has taught me many lessons but also helped me to grow into a better college student. There have been many valuable and important lessons taught thus far into the program. But one that stood out to me the most and one that I had the least amount of trouble with but was still yet challenging, was the electrophysiology of the heart. In the beginning of the electrophysiology of the heart, it is taught that the heart is contracted by a combination of generating and propagating action potentials. I have learned that action potentials are electrical impulses that travel across the cell membranes in the heart. These action potentials are one of many things that determines if the heart functions and quite frankly if you live or not. According to Baylor Heart and Vascular Hospital, these contractions are what triggers the events of an action potential which are also identical in skeletal muscles, cardiac muscle, and neurons. To not get confused with the triggering effect , but a transmitted action potential is technically called a nerve impulse. An action potential isn t always in a constant state of actively moving around, the resting stage or resting membrane potential as it should be referred to, is the electrical difference between both electrolytes from the inside of the cell membrane ... Students are facing a new business model where companies like adobe and Microsoft Office are making their software into a monthly payment instead of a one time pay for the software. Software companies should not have their software on a monthly payment for students because low budgets, users rent not own, and is it worth it. In general college students are broke, students are doing good to buy ramen noodles for themselves. How could they pay over $50 a month for something like Adobe Creative Cloud, $30 a month for Grammarly, or $75 a year for Microsoft Office? The C Net report talks about how software and web based companies like subscription payment It s time to sign up for a subscription to everything... • 11. Rite of Passage Ceremony RITE OF PASSAGE It is three days before my initiation ceremony. The day Mama says I become a woman. She is really happy about it and I m supposed to be, but I m not. I have tried to delay this day for as long as possible, but this year Papa put his foot down. I am already 17 years old and most girls go through the ceremony at 14. All the girls in my age group have to go through this rite in order to make them eligible for marriage. No woman in the village can get married without undergoing the rite of passage. It is part of our tradition and the elders believe it ensures women do not stray from their marital homes. They also believe you are unclean without it. People were already starting to whisper about me as I was the last girl in my age group who not gone through it and my friends tease and look down on me that I am not yet a woman. My younger brother, Dide cannot be initiated into the Warrior class because he has an older sister who is uncircumcised. This is the real reason Papa has refused to listen to me any longer. Dide has come of age and he doesn t want me to delay his initiation. After my initiation ceremony, I would be getting married. Papa has already someone picked out. I ve seen him a couple of times, my friends think I m lucky to be getting married into his family. I don t think anything. The Value of Education Essay The Value of Education Learning and knowledge are highly prized in all societies, especially here in Ireland, where there is a strong tradition of respect for education. The choices that individuals make when leaving school, in particular whether to pursue higher education or not, are likely to have a long lasting effect on their lifestyle. The main purposes for a University education involve: social, national and educational purposes and for the individual personal purposes and moral development. These topics will be addressed in the following paragraphs. The two main institutions predominantly concerned with education are Universities and Schools. Opportunities for education, leading to promotion at work are richer and more varied. Universal education has enhanced individuals view of the world and has created an awareness of the stream of events in other parts of the world. Which up to 1900 was prerogative of perhaps one fifth of the population. (K.G. Collier, 1959:33) Not only does this diversity benefit social purposes but it also has certain national purposes. National reforms in higher education were a result of Europe s ability to collect information from these diverse Universities, and adapt to beneficial procedures. The play by Bert V. Royal, which debuted at the New York Fringe Festival in 2004, was performed in the fall of 2012. Dog Sees God is a dramatization of Charles Schulz s Peanuts cartoon. Introduction Donald Knuth, summarises in his book, The Art of Computer Programming, that: People think that computer science is the art of geniuses but the actual reality is the opposite, just many people doing things that build on each other, like a wall of mini stones . (Knuth, 1968) When looking at an Operating System one could often say that an Operating System is a large sum made up of small separate parts. Much like how Knuth describes computer science being the wall of mini stones . However in saying that, if I today had to build a multi million Rand computer company, I would have to agree that giving structure to your system and separating it into mini stones (Knuth, 1968) would have to be the best and the safest way to do it. When a person experiences a sudden physical or mental scare, the response is very fast. A person might decide to fight back the terrifying element or to run away, which signifies the flight aspect of the response (Lee, 2004). Analysis Of Pride And Fate In Oedipus Rex A Subject of Pride and Fate Although they are vastly different in their respective time periods and thus, culture, the stories of Oedipus Rex and Monkey: Story of the West have managed to capture an aspect of the human condition that has not changed over the millennia: the excess of pride. Humanity has also questioned the impact and control over their lives, wondering if some omniscient, higher power influences their lives or if man is truly in charge of paving their own destiny. Such philosophical thinking has also surpassed time and space, taking harbor in literature and media. Such themes are present in the tale of Oedipus Rex, written in 442 BCE in Athens, which details the story of a man fated to murder his father and wed his mother (Puchner 705). Determined to save themselves from the prophecy unfolding, Jocasta and Laius, Oedipus parents, had planned for the death of their cursed child by their shepherd. However, mercy struck the heart of the shepherd and he brought the infant to a royal household where they had raised Oedipus. As the prince of Corinth, Oedipus receives a message from the oracle, confirmed by the Tiresias, the prophet, that he is the murderer from the prophecy. One way to achieve it is to build a doughnut shaped habitation section which can be used to offset the effect of gravity by rotating the spaceship which will provide a force pushing them away from the center of rotation. However, there are several aspects that need to be taken into consideration. First is that there has to be a source of energy to make the spaceship rotate in the first space. Second, for those nonrotating parts, the friction will slow the rotation unless there is more energy input. Third, such hypothesis is built on the possibility of building a very large spaceship with large radius, which can be a big engineering challenge. Moreover, as the force generated is proportional to the radius of the rotation and to the square of the rotation speed, for instance, to rotate at 1 rpm requires a radius of 900m, the energy needed to maintain such rotation and rotation speed can be tremendous and the structure also has to be strong enough to withstand such high speed rotation. The concept of race is based on the idea of fixed, ideal and unchanging types Racial categories date back to the days of ancient empires, and haven t changed significantly since then, despite the huge changes in cultures since those times. There has obviously been a huge amount of racial mixture since those times, and the concept of race now is just an archaic social construct. 2. Human Variation is nonconcordant What he means by this is that traits vary independently of other traits. Since race only really correlates with skin, hair, and eye color, there is no basis for the claim that certain diseases go along with a certain race. Sickle cell anemia may affect equatorial Africans, but also Greeks and Turks. This shows how the traits vary independently. 4. This evidence suggests that the mother is blaming herself for the miscarriage. She may think it was something she did, or something she didn t do, that caused the loss of her child. In pregnancy, there are things the mother can do that may cause harm to the fetus, such as smoking, drinking alcohol, or any number of things. Also, if necessary precautions aren t taken, it may have adverse effects on the child. When a mother goes through a situation as traumatic as losing their child, it is normal for her to blame herself. Since Brooks explicitly stated that the narrator was not deliberate, it leads us to believe that it was a miscarriage because he/she had no intentions of hurting the child. Another example Brooks includes is, ...I have eased / My dim dears at the breasts they could never suck. (lines 12 13). These lines are telling us that after the child was born, she may have held it to her chest, but because the child had not survived, it could not suck. This makes sense because typically after a child is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Examples Of Blind Obedience In A Few Good Men The act of being blindly obedient is, while frowned upon, widely common throughout military branches. Young trainees are taught to always follow orders, and never question their authority. In the film A Few Good Men, this question is brought up in the murder case of Private William Santiago. Private Louden Downey and Lance Corporal Harold Dawson were ordered to perform a Code Red on Santiago because he broke the Marine Corps code. This code red ordered ended up killing Private Santiago. The case against Dawson and Downey was sitting on the fact that the two soldiers simply followed an order. This is not unlike the My Lai massacre described in the article, The My Lai Massacre: A Military Crime of Obedience by Herbert C. Kelman and V. Lee Hamilton. The My Lai massacre was a deadly attack on what was supposed to be the Vietcong, but turned out to be only villagers. The article talks about blind obedience done through the steps of authorization, routinization, and dehumanization. The article The Abu Ghraib Prison Scandal: Sources of Sadism by Marianne Szegedy Maszak talks about the three traits of torture as well and the cause specifically of blind obedience by our military. In A Few Good Men, Dawson and Downey are affected by the motivation not to disobey an order as well as the three traits of torture to lead them to giving Santiago, their platoon mate, a Code Red. The three traits of torture are described as authorization, routinization, and dehumanization. With these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Comparison Of Genesis, The Gospel, And Theistic Evolution Genesis, the Gospel, and Theistic Evolution Introduction Humans have asked questions about their origin and their purpose on earth for eons. The Bible tells humans that God created them and explains their purpose. However, since the Renaissance, humanism answers questions about origins by naturalistic means and science has been redefined in the process. Most institutions of higher education and many individuals have adopted the naturalistic theory of evolution to explain human origin without considering its effects on faith. In contrast to prevailing thought at Goshen College, a literal six day creation is foundational to the Gospel message. Combining evolution and Christianity makes one s faith less logical and opens one s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some theistic evolutionists prefer to be called evolutionary creationists. Most of the following arguments against theistic evolution could also be applied to any combination of Christianity and macroevolution (i.e. bacteria to human evolution), irregardless of its label. Naturalism or Christianity as a Foundation for a System of Ethics Theistic evolution meshes two worldviews, naturalism and Christianity, and each worldview lays a foundation for a system of ethics and morality. Let us first examine more closely the foundation laid by naturalism. Naturalism deifies chance. Random chance is responsible for life as we know it. In The Beak of the Finch, evolutionist Jonathan Weiner writes, Natural selection leads to evolution. He further explains that for natural selection to occur, the organisms most suited to their environment will survive (1995, p. 128). The best adapted organisms are more likely to pass on their genetic information while the less well adapted lose out in the great battle of life. Such a view of origins establishes by extrapolation a moral and ethical foundation. If humans are only products of chance evolution, they will naturally follow the instincts that have been ingrained in them for millions of years. They will pass on their genetic information to as many offspring as possible. Because they have gained great intelligence and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Importance Of Prisons In Prison A lot of people talk about someone before they get sentenced to prison, but do not ask about what goes on while they serve time for their actions. Criminals rights are basically revoked during their sentencing and not given back after. Whether it is the way they are treated by prison officials, voting while in jail or when they get let free, and the way they are treated for the religion they follow. They are overlooked by people who have right just because they are locked up and serving time. Have you ever asked yourself how are criminals treated while they are serving time? Well if you have ever asked yourself this questions the answer is poorly. Criminals are treated so poorly by prison officials. In the article Prisoner Abuse: How Different are U.S. Prisons? they discuss how prisoners are constantly being abused by their guards. The author states in regards to the way prison inmates are treated that, In recent years, U.S. prison inmates have been beaten with fists and batons, stomped on, kicked, shot, stunned with electronic devices, doused with chemical sprays, choked, and slammed face first onto concrete floors by the officers whose job it is to guard them. . This is stuff people would usually be sent to jail for doing but because prisoners are not taken as seriously as other people it is just overturned. This is not a good thing because it does not go by the human rights that everyone has regardless of the mistakes they make. Officers are hired to protect inmates from ... Gilgamesh and Achilles s motivations to gain immortality and glory are quite different. However, their journeys in trying to achieve these things are quite the same. Through the journey of trying to obtain immortality and glory, Gilgamesh and Achilles teach their audience the true way a person is able to gain immortality and glory in life. Although greatness, honor, and dignity are shared influences on the motivations of both characters, their personal motivations for wanting to achieve such things are different. Gilgamesh s motivation comes from the death of his companion, Enkidu. Gilgamesh states, Shall I not die too? Am I not like Enkidu? Oh woe has entered my vitals! I have grown afraid of death, so I roam the steppe. (59. lines 3 5) Enkidu s death instills anguish and panic in Gilgamesh regarding his own fate. These feelings of uncertainty and anxiety send Gilgamesh on a pursuit to find immortality, so that he can live forever. Achilles, on the other hand, is motivated by glory, respect, and honor. It is imperative to Achilles that he be known as the greatest warrior. This title is crucial to Achilles because of the immortal fame it would bring him. Each character s motivation for wanting to personally gain superiority is different. For Gilgamesh, it took the death of a companion before death and immortality became a fear for ... In The House of Sand and Fog, by Andre Dubus III, there are an infinite amount of possible outcomes when dreams collide, but overall not everybody can have his/her dreams fulfilled, unless there is a compromise to which all parties can agree upon, but only one can get what they came for, and the characters in the story do not come to this conclusion. This idea is expanded upon throughout the story of House and Sand and Fog when we get two people, Kathy Nicolo, and Colonel Behrani who have their dreams intertwine. They both do not ever come to a compromise that can satisfy the both of them, but instead it leads to nobody achieving their dream. • 40. Becoming A Writer Writing, since I was a kid has been the essence of who I am and who I was. It fun, to look back. To notice all the little things, all the misspelled words and oddly phrased writings of the years before now. People change over time, they grow and become something that they never were before that very second. And over time all the little things, all the time spent doing this and all the time spent doing many other things just becomes history. I have heard from many people that to become a better writer you have to read, which is phenomenally true. You have to explore the different styles and genres if you re going to ever grow to being a writer. Read non fiction, sci fi, horror, historical fiction, fanfiction, poetry, read anything you can get your hands on. Some will be great and some won t be, but every chapter is a new step to take in the path writers take. I remember as a child there were these huge rolling shelves of books that would be open to read from in the classroom. I dragged one of those uncomfortable chairs inside and sat down. I d reach up and grab the books surrounding me. Most devoured and only the best savoured. I still can t believe I remember that from all those years ago.
