This document summarizes the results of a questionnaire about hip-hop music preferences. The questionnaire found that:
- Hip-hop is a male-dominated genre, with most popular artists being male.
- Younger people ages 17-25 are more interested in hip-hop than older age groups like 30-39.
- Ethnic groups like Asians, Black people, and those in certain London neighborhoods are more likely to engage with hip-hop culture.
- Features like album covers showing serious or angry facial expressions and graffiti-style artwork would appeal most to the target audience.
- Jay-Z is the most popular hip-hop artist and writing about his story could work
The front cover of Hip-Hop Weekly magazine uses informal layout and images of Rihanna and Chris Brown to target a young audience. Though the text layout seems disorganized, the font sizes follow conventional order of importance. The cover story on a rumored feud between Rihanna and Brown suggests the magazine covers informal celebrity gossip alongside music news. The £2.95 price point indicates the target audience is lower-middle class 17-21 year olds who regularly purchase the weekly issue. While both genders are represented on the non-sexualized cover, interior content seems aimed more at male readers.
The document summarizes the contents page of a magazine. It highlights that Kanye West is the only artist featured in the main image in a pose that conveys confidence. The heart being the only bright color and a hand reaching for Kanye West's heart are meant to draw in the target male audience. Black and white is used for the title and page numbers, while light seems to emanate from Kanye West's chest to make him stand out on the page.
Hip-hop originated in the late 1960s and was invented by Afrika Bambaataa in New York City. It began as a street culture within the black and Latino communities in New York and spread through the city. In the 1970s, the key elements of hip-hop culture like rapping, breakdancing, graffiti, and DJing developed within the South Bronx. Hip-hop continued to grow and evolve through the 1980s and 1990s, absorbing new styles. Today, hip-hop remains a popular culture that is exploited by the media and magazine industries for marketing.

This document summarizes the learning process and improvements made by the author in creating contents pages and a double-page spread (DPS) for a student music magazine from their initial drafts to the final products. The author's initial sketches lacked creativity, appropriate images, and magazine conventions. Through receiving feedback, researching professional magazines, and multiple revisions, the author incorporated more articles, a variety of layouts, effective color schemes and fonts, and additional design elements in the final contents pages and DPS. However, they note areas that still could have been improved further, such as using more relevant images and developing the layout/design more.
The front cover of Hip-Hop Weekly (HHW) magazine uses informal layout and images of celebrities Rihanna and Chris Brown to target a young audience. Though the text layout appears disorganized, the font sizes follow conventional order of importance. The large headline about the celebrities hints at gossip or rumors, suggesting HHW converges music and tabloid content. The £2.95 price indicates the target audience is lower-middle class 17-24 year olds who regularly purchase the weekly magazine. Though both genders are represented on the non-sexualized cover, internal content more often sexualizes women, implying the audience is somewhat male-dominated.
This document summarizes the results of a survey about music preferences. The survey found that:
1) Hip-hop is a male-dominated genre, with most popular artists being male.
2) Younger people ages 17-25 are more interested in hip-hop than older age groups like 30-39.
3) Ethnic groups more closely associated with hip-hop's roots, like Black and Asian respondents, engage more with the genre's culture.
4) "Rampage" was the most popular option for a magazine masthead targeting this audience. Grey was preferred over white or black for a color scheme. Images are most important on double page spreads.
The document summarizes the contents page of a magazine. It analyzes various design elements including the use of color, images, layout and text to convey the magazine's style and target audience. Specifically, it notes that the heart image is meant to make a statement, Kanye West's portrait complements hip-hop conventions, and bold typography and masculine imagery are intended to appeal to male readers.

The heart being the only bright color and a hand reaching for Kanye West's heart are meant to draw in male readers. Black and white is used for the title and page numbers, while the artist glows to stand out. Common magazine design elements like subheadings and the magazine name reflected behind the artist are also included.
The document summarizes and analyzes the layout, design elements, and images used across multiple pages of a music magazine. Various techniques are used to maintain the publication's house style and branding, engage the target audience, and represent the subjects of articles. Pull quotes, different fonts, column structure, drop caps, and consistent color schemes help guide the reader through the content in a neat and readable way. Photographs relate visually to the articles and profiles of musicians, depicting their style and public persona.
This double page spread from Hip Hop Weekly magazine features a large image of comedian and actor Katt Williams on the left page. The image aims to draw readers in by showing Williams' personal style through his clothing and accessories. The right page contains three columns of text about Williams interspersed with smaller images of him. The headline "No laughing Matter" is in red sans-serif font to stimulate readers and contrast with the more somber image. Additional design elements like the black background and yellow strap line are intended to highlight key information and guide readers through the article about Williams and his ties to the hip hop community.
The document analyzes the design elements and artistic choices made in the contents page of a hip-hop magazine. Key aspects summarized include: the heart image is used to make a statement; Kanye West is the only artist featured; black, white and red colors match the genre's themes; titles and images are large to stand out; half of Ice Cube's face is obscured by text for effect. Overall, the page layout, images, and design aim to attract the target male audience interested in hip-hop music and culture through bold visuals and messages that celebrate the genre.
