The Roots of Student Unrest in African Universities
CHAPTER ONE:
1.1. Introduction
The current search for excellence in higher education in Nigeria has concentrated primarily on
institutional issues such as input resources, rapid expansion of higher education, managerial and
allocative efficiency, programme relevance, and output mix in terms of students employability,
research, and service. lndeed, overwhelming evidence suggests that there has been a dramatic
decline in the quality of higher education and in die general performance of institutions of higher
learning in the last decade. Solutions being articulated include improvement in funding,
management, revamping of die curriculum and retention of quality teaching staff. However, the

A first year female student, Onyinye Ngwu of the Department of Nursing Sciences, who
participated in the protest march, was shot on the leg by the police and was rushed to the university

Bishop Shanahan Hospital for treatment. No fewer than 20 students were arrested during the protest.
Sources sad a delegation of the Students Union Government (SUG) from Enugu campus of the
university had arrived Nsukka campus on Friday to dialogue with the vice chancellor and the
management on various vexing issues including what they described as the recent astronomical
increase in school fees but the VC was said to have shunned the students.
The Vice chancellor, who was in the office when the students leaders arrived, reportedly told them
that he had no time for the parley after they had waited for several hours, a development that
provoked the students into staging a minor procession from the SUG office to the Freedom Square
to express their anger over the alleged high handedness of the vice chancellor .
The students later dispersed with a threat to take their destiny in their own hands and to make good
their threat to resist the new fees. Led by the SUG president, Mr Peter Andy, the students mobilized
thousands of their colleagues as early as 6 a.m. yesterday, starting from the Zik s Flats which

The Rate Of Teenage Pregnancy
Her name is Isabel . She got pregnant at 14 and brought forth a little girl at 15. One night her and
her boyfriend decided to engage in sexual relations. After that night her life changed drastically .
After 4 weeks she figured out she was pregnant. Isabel conversed with a trusted auntie and she
took her to go get checked. She peed in a container and yup those 2 lines came up. Isabel took a
gander at her Aunt and she didn t generally recognize what say. She told Isabel that it would have
been alright. I am regularly frightened when I see an amazingly youthful young lady encountering
parenthood during a period when her fundamental concerns ought to be far not exactly those of
raising another person. The truth of the matter is that consistently more high schoolers are having
youngsters at an alarmingly youthful age. This issue brings up the issue of what should be possible
to forestall and bring down the rates of teenage pregnancy. Keeping in mind the end goal to avert
high school pregnancy, young people need a complete comprehension of restraint, preventative
strategies, and outcomes .Young people who are pregnant can t typically bolster the youngster all
alone. Teenage Pregnancy is a developing issue all around the globe. Despite the fact that the
numbers have brought down, it is still an issue in our general public. At the point ,when teenagers
become pregnant their associations with their family, companions, and the father of the infant can

BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY Education is generally accepted as a major source of
development of any civilised society. Francis Bacon in his words said Crafty men condemn studies;
simple men admire them, and wise men use them . The importance of education to the development
of the society has made all concerned stakeholders to be interested in its administration, planning
and dissemination to the entire populace. Religious missionaries, most especially Christian
missionaries were the fore runners of western education in Nigeria. Education was used by those
organisations as tool for grassroot evangelism as well as public enlightenment. Muslim communities
were faced with challenges of getting their children educated in western way without getting them
converted into Christianity. Various Muslim organisations rose up to this challenge lately by
establishing formal western oriented schools. Muslims are enjoined by Prophet Muhammed to
seek for knowledge from the cradle to the grave ; and even go in quest of knowledge even unto
china (edge of the earth) Various Muslim organisations realized this call to tackle the challenges
facing Muslim children in the path of obtaining western (formal) education. For instance, Ansar Ud

Who Is Responsible For Michael Jackson s Downfall
Everybody witnesses numerous rises and falls in their lifetimes. Kino is a character from John
Steinbeck s The Pearl, a realistic fiction novel, who retrogresses thoroughly throughout the plot.
Michael Jackson was known as The King of Pop. However, the record breaking artist s career took
a major fall as time went on. Throughout their lives, both Kino and Michael Jackson made
numerous, unfortunate decisions driven by greed and power that led to their downfalls.
In the very beginning of the book, Kino hears the The Song of the Family and has breakfast
peacefully with his loved ones (Steinbeck 2). Kino is a peaceful, ordinary, innocent young man
who has a special bond with his family. When Kino finds his pearl, he decides what he will do with
the money. He decides that he would like new clothes , a rifle , to be married in the church , and
for his son, Coyotito, to go to school (Steinbeck 25 26). Kino is a loving individual who cares
about his family and wants the best for them.

A Reflection On My Life
So much of my life is built around distracting from my endometriosis pain. I watch TV or listen to
music while reading. If I engage my mind enough then I can ignore the pain. It is only partially
successful.
I realized, as I walked to the library, that distraction is how I ve always gotten through exercise. I
don t like to sweat. It is uncomfortable, although I am working on that distaste. Exercise has
always caused pain in my ankles and I ve never been good at it. Today, I walked in the heat as fast
as I could manage to the beat of my Lady Gaga Pandora channel. I used the beat of Pitbull s Shake
Senora to move faster and faster. By the time I made it to the library I was dripping with sweat
and my pants were sticking to me. If there were such a thing as tiny men, they could have slid
down my cleavage like a slip and slide.
This is in total contrast to my yoga experience. Every move in yoga has to be thoughtfully
carried out. For one, my balance, as it stands, is horrible. Some of the poses require me to be on
one foot or one knee. I have trouble with standing on two feet or balancing on both knees. I am
learning and practicing over and over, but I seriously have to concentrate. I have to feel every
part of my body and muscles I didn t know existed. Normally when exercising, I would try to
ignore pain in my muscles or work through it, using the adage no pain, no gain or more likely I d
give up. With yoga, if there is pain I am doing something wrong. Not only do I have to

called Hygrade FoodProducts won a competition in 1959 to be the hot dog supplier for the team.
They started a contest at the company for the name for the hot dogs. Mary Ann Kurk, one of
Hygrade Food Products sales people at the time, won the contest with the name Ball Park Franks .

to make sure the attractions include a site from each of the countries in the UK: from Scotland,
Wales, England and Northern Island. We also added a bonus attraction from the capital city of the
UK, London.
Fountains Abbey, North Yorkshire, England
Fountains Abbey is among the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in
England. The abbey was founded in 1131, after 13 monks were expelled from the St Mary s
Abbey in York. The Archbishop of York, Thurstan, provided these monks refuge and a small piece
of land, where they set the monastery.
The monastery grew in size over the years, with the precinct covering around 70 acres of land.
The abbey operated for over 400 years, closing in 1539 when Henry VIII ordered the Dissolution of
the Monasteries.
Fountains Abbey was among the first UK entries on the UNESCO World Heritage sitelist. It was
added on 1986, as a cultural site.
Why visit Fountains Abbey:
Fountains Abbey is a stunning attraction to visit and to learn about life in monasteries something
which was one central to the way of life on the island. The vast location offers plenty of things to
see; you can visit indoor museums and spend time outdoors taking in the stunning views across the
ruins.

Emotion Coaching And Children With Oppositional Defiant...
Emotion Coaching and Children with Oppositional Defiant Disorder
Children who consistently display behavioral problems in the home and within a social context
(Dunsmore, Booker, Ollendick, 2013) characterize oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). According
to Dunsmore, Booker, and Ollendick (2013), the widespread cases for ODD are 1 percent to 13
percent in children at the age of 6 17 years (p. 444). Children with ODD have frequent explosive
episodes of opposition, disputation, and antagonist behaviors that upset intercommunications with
like aged children, their own parents, and siblings (Dunsmore, et. al., 2013). Other evidence of
ODD involves rage, quick agitation, and becoming nasty or revengeful (Dunsmore, Booker,
Ollendick, Greene, 2016). Oppositional defiant disorder links these children with the incapability to
express feelings, connect and manage intimate relationships, and work within a team environment
(Dunsmore, et. al., 2013). Children displaying behavioral problems lack the parental emotional
communication called emotion coaching than mothers of children without conduct problems
(Dunsmore, et. al., 2013, p. 445). However, once mothers of children with ODD undertake emotion
coaching, then positive connections with others appear to surface for these children (Dunsmore, et.
al., 2013). Therefore, integrating methods for parental emotion coaching with evidence based
treatment programs for troublesome behavioral disorders are likely to ameliorate

Estrus Synchronization Protocols Essay example
In the current breeding practices, management of the estrous cycle is a common. Breeders want to
know when their mare is in one phase or the other and also wants to be able to determine when she
will ovulate. Manipulation of the estrous cycle is a practice of breeding management. Manipulation
of estrous involves changing the normal cycle through hormone treatments or other methods.
Managing and manipulating the estrous cycle allows breeders to have control over the phase the
mare is experiencing and the length of time she will be in that phase.
Estrus synchronization is the practice of regulating when one or many mares will be in estrus.
Breeders can follow certain protocol in order to cause synchronization in the cycle. According to ...

If the stallion only offers scheduled appointments, you may have to schedule in advance and not
know when your mare will be in estrus that far ahead. In all cases, estrus synchronization minimizes
the number of inseminations each mare will require per cycle in order to become pregnant.
A review of the estrous cycle is necessary to understanding the protocols for estrus synchronization.
The estrous cycle of the mare is the period from one ovulation to a subsequent ovulation. Horses are
a seasonally polyestrous animal meaning that non pregnant mares experience recurring estrous
cycles. Further, the equine breeding season is regulated by photoperiod, light exposure. The mares
estrous cycle is 21 to 22 days in length and involves hormones produced by the pineal gland,
hypothalamus, pituitary gland, ovaries and endometrium.
The estrous cycle during the breeding season is made up of two phases, the estrus, or follicular
phase and the diestrus, or luteal phase. During estrus, a four to seven day long phase, the mare is
receptive to the stallion and can become pregnant following ovulation, which occurs one to two
days prior to the end of estrus. Diestrus is a 14 to 15 day long phase in which the mare is
unreceptive to the stallion. This phase ends with the corpus luteum deteriorating which initiates the
next follicular, or estrus phase.
Hormone treatments are the most common method of

Lab Report on Paper Towels
Which Paper Towel is Stronger and
Has More Absorbency?
Decorator or Sparkle?
Introduction
Paper towels are made from softwood trees which contain long fibers. The tree goes thru several
processes before it is actually turned into a paper towel. The paper towel is made from pulp in
which the water is removed and the fibers then bond into sheets. Also, resin is added to the process
to give the paper towel strength (Union). Several layers are then put together with adhesive and
then formed into a paper towel (Choudhury). Some paper towels are embossed to form air pockets
which help to absorb more liquid and help to add more strength (Union).
The purpose of this experiment is to find out which brand of paper towel, Decorator or ... Show

The process was then repeated for the second brand of paper towel.
The independent variable for the experiment was the paper towels. The dependent variable was the
absorbency and strength. The constants for the experiment were the size of the paper towels that
were used, the amount of water, the size of the beaker, the size of the cylinder and the amount of
the weight.
Results
The results of the experiment for the test of strength were that the Sparkle brand proved to be the
strongest. The average amount that the paper towel would hold before ripping was 583.6 g, which
was 159.2 g more than the Decorator brand held. The Decorator brand only held 424.4 g before it
ripped.
The results of the experiment for the test of absorbency were that the Sparkle brand proved to be
the most absorbent. The average amount of liquid that the Sparkle brand paper towel held was
17.4 mL, which was 4.6 mL more than the Decorator brand held. The Decorator brand only held
12.8 of liquid.

Information Systems Security Review
Information Systems Security Review
Introduction
Information systems have three parts which include hardware, software and the communications
aspect. This view of Information systems is useful in applying industry standards for protection as
well as prevention at all layers (Spagnoletti and Resca, 2008). Procedures will tell the personnel
operating, or the administrators, how the products would ensure organizational information security.
Information System implies information that requires protection from improper access, disclosure,
or destruction (Spagnoletti and Resca, 2008). This is possible if the system ensures availability,
confidentiality, as well as integrity of any data in an organization. Corporations, financial
institutions, and governments have a lot of information on products, finances, research, and
employees. This information usually resides in electronic media and may move from one point to
another. Furthermore, with the advances in networks, transmission to other computers or access
points within a physical location or across the globe is possible. Any breach of the information
may have far reaching consequences such as bankruptcy, loss of competitive edge or lawsuits from
customers or business partners (Mithas et al, 2011). It is, therefore, imperative to ensure
Information Security.

Government Aid And Assistance During The United States
Government aid/assistance, or as others may know it, welfare, was created in order to provide
assistance and aid to those in the community that may be unemployed or in need of assistance due
to a lack of income for both individuals as well as families. In the beginning it was the federal
government that managed the assistance program but that was only until the government assistance
reform took place, which sent the jurisdiction back down to the states. There was a strong urge
from the American citizens to reform the system due to the fact that many Americans believed that
the government assistance program was being abused by those utilizing the program. Many
Americans believed that those utilizing welfare were not looking for employment, not marrying in
order to gain more funding and actually having more children in order to qualify for more cash
assistance. Throughout this paper I will discuss each of the subsequent topics: a history of
government aid/assistance in the U.S., a synopsis of the situation that created the proposal as well

Exploring Economic Status Vs. Painter s Actual Lifestyle
This project involves the discovery and interpretation of paintings ranging from the mid 14th
century to the mid 18th century. More importantly, the paintings are those which have a figure
shown in a portrait type setting that are in the process of working or showing a task of their
everyday life. I explore the use of light pertaining to the painters attitude and also the fine details to
explore economic status vs the painter s actual lifestyle. Given that both artist had contrasting
lifestyles, I believe the style reflected their personal life or current events as well. To help interpret
this research, many paintings from five different artist were divided into folders and scientifically
broken down and compared using a state of the art program. The final result of these images
concluded that Johannes Vermeer and Francisco Jose de Goya, had opposite styles. Given the fact
that Vermeer and Goya were artists of neighboring centuries, why are their styles different? This
research implies that between the mid 16th century and the mid 18th century, portraits had a
significant difference. The differences in artwork show that paintingstyles are directly related to
events in the particular artist lifestyle. The first artist involved in this experiment is Johannes
Vermeer (1632 1675). According to the article, A View of Delftto , Vermeer grew up on a street
where many painters existed and was put in charge of his fathers art business when his father

a)The first response of the germ theory was unfavorably look upon, most people thought that
diseases a bad seeds in the air known as miasma. Anthony Van Leeuwenhoek made one of the
earliest microscopes this lead to the discovery of micro organisms which he called animalcules.
Joseph Lister developed the microscope in 1830.
Louis Pasteur put forward the germ theory in 1861 this consisted of micro organisms cause
decaying matter. Pasteur never showed the link between bacteria and human disease. Robert Koch
further developed Pasteur s theory. Koch succeeded in what Pasteur did by linking one microbe
with a disease. The first disease Koch worked on was anthrax, which Davaine had also worked
on. Davaine found that in you inject a health animal with a small dose of the disease they won t
contract the disease. But Koch was able to further his research on the disease and its life cycle. It
was the work of Pasture and Koch that opened the door for other researchers to identification of
disease causing and lifesaving treatments.

Nat King Ray Research Paper
Ray has a sound that was very comparable to jazz singer Nat King Cole. He set himself apart
from Nat King Cole by creating a new and unique sound that had never been heard before. The
main instruments that Ray used were his voice and the piano. Ray first experienced playing the
piano when he was just three years old with a much older mentor who taught Ray how to play.
Eventually, Ray learned how to read and write musicin Braille and he furthered his skills as a piano
player while he attended the school for the deaf and blind.
Ray listened to a wide variety of music when he was growing up and he enjoyed all genres of
music. Moreover, he didn t want to limit himself to only doing one style of music. Ray s main
styles of music were jazz, gospel,

Examples Of Civil Disobedience In Antigone
Eye catcher... Civil disobedience is an active refusal to obey (laws, demands, and commands). It
can be from disagreeing with your parents to breaking a law. Civil disobedience is a negative force
when the public is misinformed, breaking laws, punishments way out of hand for the situation, and
misinterpret what is or is not civil.
Transition... When the public is misinformed problems occur. People may think something is civil
disobedience when it actually is civil. For example in Antigone, Creon is misinformed what really
happened to Poloneses body. He first thinks it s a man and done because of a bet. Later to find
out, one of the sister of Poloneses buried her brother out of love breaking the law that Creon put in
place. When Creon went into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the movie Cool Hand Luke, Luke is punished and put in a wooden box for his mother passing
away. He didn t show any signs of running away or violence; so therefore, there was no reason for
him to be punished. After that, Luke started misbehaving and ran away over and over. Another
view of this is in Antigone; when Antigone is punished for burying her brother out of love
because her uncle didn t. She got punished and locked away in a rock jail. She ended up killing
herself. Soon after her uncle s son; which was her lover; found her body and killed himself for
what his father did.
Transition... Being civil is normally is very misunderstood by the public. In the story of
vendetta she says she want revenge on a guy and starts to train a dog. She trained a dog to kill
on a demand. She felt it was okay since she wasn t the one killing him, the dog was. Another case
when this implied is in Antigone: Creon felt it was okay to blame one of the brothers for
fighting and not give him a funeral. He also felt that whoever went against him should get
punished. Transition... Civil disobedience in the end is a very negative thing. People should not
go against the laws or demands given because most cases it goes out of hand. There are very few
cases that it is for a good

Politicians Need to Listen to the People and Legalized...
While the majority of American citizens believe that the drug policies in this country need to be
changed, the politicians of America refuse to recognize the necessity for change. The war on drugs
has clearly been lost and while Americans are for the most part ready to admit this defeat, their
elected leaders are unfortunately unwilling to do so. This difference of opinions, more so than with
any other political issue, marks politician s greatest inconsistency with the desires of the people.
The technology being analyzed here is the laws humans, particularly American politicians, have
created that make the possession and use of marijuanaillegal. These laws are in many ways quite
detrimental to society and the objective of this paper is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this system, a Schedule 1 drug has a high potential for abuse, no currently accepted medical use
in treatment in the United States, and lacks accepted safety for use under medical supervision.
Despite the potentially positive effects that marijuana can have on terminally ill patients, the drug
has been placed under this Schedule 1 classification. Also placed under Schedule 1 are some of the
most dangerous drugs on the streets.
The placement of marijuana among the other drugs as Schedule 1 is absolutely outrageous
because there is no evidence that labels marijuana as having any of the described qualities. This
inappropriate classification is a perfect example of the lack of understanding the government has of
the potentially useful drug. This ignorance, paired with the stubborn ways of the majority of
America s politicians, leads to the absence of progress within the country s drug policies.
The effects the laws have on America s economy and prisons are other detrimental aspects of the
laws prohibiting marijuana possession and use. Not only does enforcing marijuana prohibition cost
taxpayers an estimated $10 billion annually, it also results in the arrest of more than 734,000
individuals every year. This figure is much greater than the total number arrested for all violent
crimes combined, including: murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault. This

Power Of The Indian Ocean
Power Struggle 18.In the 21st century the interests and influence of China, India, and the US are
beginning to intersect and overlap thereby this region is bound to become epitome of
international conflicts and power dynamics. The presence of the three powers in the Indian
Ocean is shown at Appendix Q attached. The littoral countries are going to play a major role in
the ongoing power struggle because of their strategic locations. It is clearly evident that of the
three most influential countries, it is China who is making forays in the domain of other
countries and projecting its power in the far flung areas. The point to ponder is Is this Showcase
of Power a Case of Expansionist China or Is it Economic Necessity of China . In the present
situation it is a mix of both. Before moving any further it is vital to analyze the conflicting situation
in the region. 19.In the case of China till now the focus continues to be on the Pacific and not on
the IOR with principal interest at this juncture in the need to protect the Sea Lanes of
Communications (SLOCS) along the Indian Ocean, vital for the country s energy imports. The
seaward drive of China can be attributed to the twin propellants of geopolitics and economics . Off
late China through its soft power diplomacy has begun to shape the IOR strategic environment, by
providing large loans on generous repayment terms and investing in major infrastructure projects. In
addition by offering military assistance and political

The Rights Of Animal Testing
A long time of debates go back and forth on the rights of all animals with further argument or
debates, do humans have the right to use animals on medical testing and lab use? There are several
issues that can be placed in this argument this research will acknowledge four important topics in
the rights of animal testing. Is it right to use animals for testing? Is it right to compare animal
DNA to human DNA in these animal experiments? Is it right to use real animals instead of
computers to generate results? Is it right to state animals are being protected and cared for while
giving toxins to make them sick? Therefore, the question needs to be asked if animals should be
used for scientific experiments in labs all across the globe. The on going attacks on the lab staff
s morals, attacked on facilities and the lack of support from the public have made medical testing
on animals a significant dilemma among the public. The two organizations that are in the middle
of this argument are the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and Americans for
Medical Progress (AMP). AMP defends that animals are biologically similar to humans and are
susceptible to over 200 diseases and play a vital role in advances in medical care and treatments.
Many of these successes have created treatments, cures and vaccines that have increased health care
resources for both human and animals a like. The problem with this success comes the concern on

Could orange colored lenses dictate my future? Would they change the way my friends see me?
Would they help me get through high school and into college? These are just a few questions I
found myself struggling with seven years ago. In fourth grade while reading audibly, my teacher
noticed I might have a reading disability. As I skipped lines, mixed up words, and even confused
words as others, my teacher discussed the concern with my parents. Were there eye problems, was
it dyslexiaor a learningdisorder? Being that all of these conditions were checked, with no
conclusive answer, we only knew I was behind on my reading and comprehension skills.
Later, after taking my first bubble test in the 7th grade, a counselor called me into her office.

Tobacco And Its Effects On The United States
Tobacco is the number one cause of preventable death in the United States. According to the
American Lung Association in 2009, 20.6% of adults were current smokers. In 1970, the United
States banned television and radio advertisements of cigarettes. Across the world countries battle
similar issues in how to help prevent deaths, lower healthcare costs, and educate the population.
Countries have banned advertising, posted health causes, renamed brands, and even included
informational fliers in packs of cigarettes. In 2001, The Government of India decided to ban the
advertising of cigarettes. This ban was created to help the youth of India and hoped to reduce the
amount of future smokers. The proposal of this restriction caused debates between the government,
advertising companies, and tobaccomanufacturers. The supporting and dismantling arguments for
these ethical and commercial causes of the ban have enabled the government to make their final
decision. The Government of India has created an anti tobacco plan to tackle the growing issues
of tobacco, health concerns, and rising death toll. Their first goal was to eliminate advertising as
this was perceived to encourage the youth to take up the dangerous habit. This ban posed ethical
and commercial challenges for both sides of the argument. The government has the power to pass
laws to help prevent people from smoking and protect its people. They found the ethical decision

Examples Of Tim Johnson In To Kill A Mockingbird
In To Kill a Mockingbird there are many themes that Tim Johnson represents. The main theme
would be racism, but there are other themes such as problems Atticus has to face, those who resent
racism in Maycomb, and the lingering sensation of the people of Maycomb not wanting to do
certain things. On top of this, Tim Johnson is a representation of the suffering the African
Americans in Maycomb. Finally,
To Kill a Mockingbird is a fictional book that can still be applied in today s society. For example,
the story talks about Atticus Finch, a lawyer from Maycomb, Alabama, who takes on a court case in
which an innocent African Americanis accused of rape. The story also talks about the struggles of
Finch s children, Scout and Jem, as they live their lives being bullied for their father s actions.
With that being said, To Kill a Mockingbird also consists of many themes that make the story
applicable to the current world. An example of a theme in the story would be Tim Johnson, a
sick dog that Atticus had to put down. Finally, the dying dog shows many characteristics that the
people of Maycomb also show. The main and most hinted at theme that Tim Johnson represents
would be racism. Tim Johnson is an old sickly dog, that needs to be put out of its misery, just as
Maycomb is when dealing with racism. This is supported by the quote Maycomb was an old
town, but it was a tired old town when I first knew it. (6). Maycomb is old and tired town in the
sense that it is old

interval time of 0.15 seconds, and the RT interval increase by 0.01 seconds from 0.37 at rest to 0.38
seconds after exercise. More substantial changes were noted in TP and RR intervals. The TP
interval decreasing from 0.32 seconds at rest to just 0.08 seconds after exercise, a decrease of 0.24

I did run into problems as well due the instruction in the you will now measure four time
intervals from the ecg recording. I was confused about how to perform the procedure so I thought
I needed to hit the start button four times which just resulted in a very strange ECG. I later
realized however in order to record the results I had to let it run for a few seconds and then
measure the ECG with the black lines and then press the journal icon to record these results.
1. Are any of the time intervals approximately constant?
There were two intervals remained constant between at rest and after exercise, the PR interval and
the RT interval (there was a clinically insignificant 0.01 second increase in the RT interval after
exercise, however I suspect this was likely due to measurement error error rather than an actual
increase).
2. With the exception of the R R interval, which time interval shows the greatest difference between
resting and post exercise? Explain this observation.
Two intervals did show a significant shorting post exercise. Besides the RR interval, the other
recorded interval which contained a marked shortening after exercise was the TP interval. To
understand why the TP interval is shortened when the heart rate increases and lengthened when the
heart rate slows, one must first understand what the TP interval is. The TP interval, which is the the
interval between the end of the

Criticism Of Media Convergence
Media convergence in the digital era constructs a global flat earth , allowing for interaction of old
and new mediums across various media platforms. Technology has become an increasingly
dominant means of communication as it allows for information to be stored and shared across great
distances. Flew (2005) suggests that this globalisation permissible through digital and online
communication has effected cultural change. Individuals can communicate from any part of the
world, irrespective of physical and geographic barriers via an interactive digital mediaenvironment
across networked ICT Devices. Thus he suggests that new media is synonymous with digital media

Kindle s remediate books but improve certain features, inclusive of altering typography style and
size, offering highlighting tools, built in dictionaries and allowing the reader to purchase new
books through the device (Hitt 2013). Since its introduction in 2007, approximately 43.7 million
Kindle e readers have been sold as of late 2014 (Trefis Team 2014). The Kindle does not seek to
replace physical books; rather it uses technological convergence to store dense digital information
on small, portable physical spaces. This isn t to say that new mediums have replaced older formats
altogether; on the contrary, they have altered them to suit the change in how we communicate.
One could argue that the decline of traditional media at the hands of media convergence prompted
the incorrect presumption that old media was being superseded by the new (Lugmayr Dal Zotto
2015, pp. 4). Conversely, modern commentators have argued that new and old media interact
across different media forms and platforms. Jenkins asserts that new media technologies enabled
the same content to flow through many different channels and assume many different forms
(2006, pg. 10). Acland (2007) echoes this sentiment, reiterating that new digital media refashion
old media formats. Vogue is a global high fashion magazine with 304 000 Australian readers in

Putting Constitutional Protections in the Backseat for...
A country born of laws, rights and citizenship with the idea of a free people to govern over
themselves, was the original intent of the American experience. However, America did not inherit
traditional bonds of a national identity, so it had to rely on a few cultural foundations that became
critical in deciding who belonged in the American experience. The pillars seemed to be a common
language of English, a religionbased on a broad view of Christianity, and the notion of a traditional
family. As more people were included politically, more people were excluded culturally if they did
not conform to some version of those three expected characteristics. This weeks reading
demonstrates how Constitutional guarantees take a backseat in the wake... Show more content on

The abuse of power transcended national boarders as the U.S. government turned a blind eye to
American troops engaged in the unleashed and unchecked torture of prisoners of war. The use of
torture is not in the national interest, as it has been found that the intelligence gained through
torture is unreliable. Like the Japanese after Pearl Harbor, America consistently presses or even
oversteps its Constitutional boundaries in times of national security. The cultural foundations
deeply ingrained in the American experience provide little relief towards an amicable concept of
Rooted Cosmopolitanism. Southern California is an outlier, geographically dethatched with an
aura of modernity. Rapidly advancing modernization and an influx of religious diversity emerged in
tandem; the effect Christianity molded to secular exigencies shaping a pluralistic state. However,
Southern California reflects a religious model independently formed, largely out of reach from the
grip of ripened American values and democratic traditions prevailing in the eastern part of the
country. The distasteful reality, in which Roof did not address, is what would happen if Southern
California bred the emergence of a religious practice similar to that of polygamy in Utah? Society
and the Courts have fiercely preserved traditional American values, and would without doubt
precipitously intervene. Perhaps, religious pluralism flourished so well in Southern California
because, as Roof cited,

Analysis Of The Poem The Bridge
Vanessa loves the woods. She goes there every day, after doing her chores, and comes back at

Essay On Counterculture In The 1960s
One of the most exciting things about studying more recent history is almost intrinsically
connected to the advent of the photographic camera, which offers spontaneous imagery of events
in the moment that the artwork of the past could only attempt to recreate. The transition from
black and white with a burst of color following the Second World War offered to the public eye a
realistic representation of events that they had not had the opportunity to experience before. Color
photographs boomed in the decades following the war, which provides historians today with a
wide breadth of visual sources with which to corroborate other materials. This is especially true
when examining the documentation of the counterculture in the 1960s. A book called Hippie
compiled by Barry Miles offers a composite portrait of hippies in America in the 1960s,

Although SDS had a number of issues they were passionate about in the mid to late 1960s, their
most crucial point of discussion revolved around the Vietnam War. It could be argued that the
advent of the war was one of the factors that contributed to the increasing militancy of the group, the
group eventually dissolving into multiple factions including the Weathermen. Similarly, the hippie
counterculture eventually developed a strong anti war sentiment regarding the American
intervention in Vietnam. However, the doctrine of love and pacifism resulted in the hippies never
developing militant behaviors in the way that the members of SDS did. This emphasis on non
violence, as the 60s and 70s went on, became an increasingly valuable point in which the hippies
diverged from other groups that shared similar foundational philosophies given that the growing

Prejudice In Australian Society Essay
As Australians we live in an abundantly multicultural society. Walk out into a public area and
you ll be surrounded by faces all from a vast array of many different ethnic backgrounds. It is
perceived by many of us that Australia as a nation is fairly accepting of racial difference and
people from other backgrounds. But much of the evidence seated clearly before us points to an
entirely different consensus. As human beings not one of us is born with prejudice or hate in our
hearts. These values are taught to us by our upbringing and experiences within the society we live
in. Hate and prejudices are instilled upon us by what we are accustomed to and our experience, but
most often, what we are told. And the grueling truth in todays society is that the single most

I have little doubt that the vast majority of the Australian public does retain invariably good
intentions when it comes to the moral issue of discrimination; but sometimes, just to mean well just
doesn t cut it. Racist attitudes and beliefs are misconceptions about people based on perceived
racial lines and are often founded on the fear of difference, including differences in customs, values,
religion, physical appearance and ways of living and viewing the world. This includes negative
attitudes towards the use of different languages, foreign accents or the use of non standard
variations of a dominant community language. An explicit attitude is an attitude that the person can

Elements Of Characters In Prisoners, Sicario And Arrival
Dramas are films with realistic plots, settings, characters, and situations. Dramas tend to be driven
and somewhat dependent on powerful actor portrayals and good direction, rather than CGI effects
or action. Dramas tend to include characters that are complex and well developed throughout their
films. But perhaps one of the most key elements in dramas are the themes of intense and real
struggle centered around the human condition. These themes can be expressed overtly through the
plot and story or symbolically through several different film elements. Denis Villeneuve is a
director whose all but mastered the art of creating dramatic films, consistently making films that
become exemplary models for what dramafilms should evoke in an audience. His three films
Prisoners, Sicario, and Arrival do not fall outside of this classification. Each of these are unique in
their own respect, yet Denis Villeneuve uses several different thematic elements, particularly color,
in all three to craft complex symbols and commentary that reside deep in the recesses of each film s
narrative.
The first film, Prisoners, is about two regular, All American families whose lives are flipped upside

investigation and how members of each family cope with their situation. The basic plot of Prisoners

been around for almost 20 years, and is fronted by a husband and wife duo. My mother and
father, always looking for new things to help me, discovered the company s products being sold at
a table as they left a play and upon hearing that it could be used to help psoriasis and eczema (upon
countless other things), got some for us all to try.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You honestly only need a little and it lathers beautifully. The shea butter blend is very soft and
easy to apply, and leaves you moisturized all day. My theory with skincare products has always
been if it smells amazing, I probably shouldn t put it anywhere near me, but our first set smelled
absloutely incredible and didn t irritate me at all! We purchased the scent Island Luv , which as a
soft, fruity, tropical scent. It wasn t over powering and worked like a dream, and I m currently
on their scent Clean which reminds me of fabric softner. Their products come in (1) one and (2)
two pounds for the full body cleanser, and 4 ounces, 8 ounces, and 1 pound for the shea butter

Descriptive Essay About The Cemetery
The cemetery I chose to visit and explore was the Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx. On the way
to the cemetery I couldn t help but feel anxious. When I began to drive past the cemetery to its
entrance, all I could see were miles and miles of headstones. It was eerie to say the least. As a kid,
whenever my family would drive by a cemetery, my siblings and I would hold our breath until we
passed so as to not breathe in the wandering, lost souls. Actually going into a cemetery to look
around seemed counterintuitive, I wasn t sure if I would be able to hold my breath for that long. It
didn t help that right when I entered those black gates that separated the living from the dead,
clouds of smoke and ash permeated the air around me due to bodies being cremated on site.... Show

The fear I held as a child that my body would become a vessel for other souls to enter was
intensified. This was my first impression of my first time in a cemetery and I was not off to a
good start. As I grabbed a map to find my way around, I began to dread the walk through the
cemetery and having to see all the lives lost, especially those who lost their lives before they
even really began. However, to my surprise, as I made my way through the graveyard this feeling
of sadness slipped away. The sun began to shine through the clouds of gray and illuminated both
the cemetery and my mood. I was delighted to notice that many of the tombstones I encountered
read that these lives that were lost were not taken too soon. Most of the people had lived over
eighty years and were buried next to fellow family members who also lived just as long. It was
nice to see that many people were laid to rest next to family so they wouldn t have to enter the next

Factors That Affect Resilience
In my term paper, I would like to talk about Resilience which I believe is a prerequisite for an
effective leader. Life has ups and downs and adversities are inevitable. Things can beyond our
control, it is impossible for us to prevent unpleasant circumstances from happening. Difficulties
and problems come out of nowhere, the stress and anxiety associated with adversity may knock us
down if we cope with them inadequately. Chronic stress can lead to mental collapse if we still
cannot manage them well, which is definitely undesirable for a leader because it can affect the
cooperation with others as well as the team morale.
First of all, I would like to define what resilience is. Major scholars believe it is the process to
recover from trauma, or the ability to respond to adversity. According to Sergeant and Laws
Chapman (2012), resilience refers to the ability to adapt to adverse conditions while maintaining a
sense of purpose, balance, and positive mental and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are several factors can contribute to and affect resilience, are as follows:
1) Personal attributes
I believe it is one of the major determinants of resilience. Having personal attributes such as calm,
patience and adventurous will facilitate us to become a more resilient person. We will not become
panic stricken and lose control of ourselves when we encounter adversity. Other positive traits such
as cheerful and optimistic can also conduce to resiliency. It can help us to find positive meanings in
our lives despite adversity. On the contrary, negative traits such as pessimistic, impulsive and
emotionally unstable can affect our resiliency and also our well being.
2) Family cohesion and relationships
It is also a key factor affecting resilience. A positive, supportive and cohesive family relationship
can promote our resiliency. Relatives are the important props to support us when we are
experiencing adversity.
3) External

The importance of education to the development of the society has made all concerned stakeholders to be interested in its administration, planning and dissemination to the entire populace. Religious missionaries, most especially Christian missionaries were the fore runners of western education in Nigeria. Education was used by those organisations as tool for grassroot evangelism as well as public enlightenment. Muslim communities were faced with challenges of getting their children educated in western way without getting them converted into Christianity. Various Muslim organisations rose up to this challenge lately by establishing formal western oriented schools. Emotion Coaching and Children with Oppositional Defiant Disorder Children who consistently display behavioral problems in the home and within a social context (Dunsmore, Booker, Ollendick, 2013) characterize oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). According to Dunsmore, Booker, and Ollendick (2013), the widespread cases for ODD are 1 percent to 13 percent in children at the age of 6 17 years (p. 444). Children with ODD have frequent explosive episodes of opposition, disputation, and antagonist behaviors that upset intercommunications with like aged children, their own parents, and siblings (Dunsmore, et. al., 2013). Other evidence of ODD involves rage, quick agitation, and becoming nasty or revengeful (Dunsmore, Booker, Ollendick, Greene, 2016). Oppositional defiant disorder links these children with the incapability to express feelings, connect and manage intimate relationships, and work within a team environment (Dunsmore, et. al., 2013). Children displaying behavioral problems lack the parental emotional communication called emotion coaching than mothers of children without conduct problems (Dunsmore, et. al., 2013, p. 445). However, once mothers of children with ODD undertake emotion coaching, then positive connections with others appear to surface for these children (Dunsmore, et. al., 2013). Managing and manipulating the estrous cycle allows breeders to have control over the phase the mare is experiencing and the length of time she will be in that phase. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the stallion only offers scheduled appointments, you may have to schedule in advance and not know when your mare will be in estrus that far ahead. In all cases, estrus synchronization minimizes the number of inseminations each mare will require per cycle in order to become pregnant. A review of the estrous cycle is necessary to understanding the protocols for estrus synchronization. The estrous cycle of the mare is the period from one ovulation to a subsequent ovulation. Horses are a seasonally polyestrous animal meaning that non pregnant mares experience recurring estrous cycles. Further, the equine breeding season is regulated by photoperiod, light exposure. The mares estrous cycle is 21 to 22 days in length and involves hormones produced by the pineal gland, hypothalamus, pituitary gland, ovaries and endometrium. The estrous cycle during the breeding season is made up of two phases, the estrus, or follicular phase and the diestrus, or luteal phase. During estrus, a four to seven day long phase, the mare is receptive to the stallion and can become pregnant following ovulation, which occurs one to two days prior to the end of estrus. This view of Information systems is useful in applying industry standards for protection as well as prevention at all layers (Spagnoletti and Resca, 2008). Procedures will tell the personnel operating, or the administrators, how the products would ensure organizational information security. Information System implies information that requires protection from improper access, disclosure, or destruction (Spagnoletti and Resca, 2008). This is possible if the system ensures availability, confidentiality, as well as integrity of any data in an organization. Corporations, financial institutions, and governments have a lot of information on products, finances, research, and employees. This information usually resides in electronic media and may move from one point to another. Furthermore, with the advances in networks, transmission to other computers or access points within a physical location or across the globe is possible. Any breach of the information may have far reaching consequences such as bankruptcy, loss of competitive edge or lawsuits from customers or business partners (Mithas et al, 2011). More importantly, the paintings are those which have a figure shown in a portrait type setting that are in the process of working or showing a task of their everyday life. I explore the use of light pertaining to the painters attitude and also the fine details to explore economic status vs the painter s actual lifestyle. Given that both artist had contrasting lifestyles, I believe the style reflected their personal life or current events as well. The presence of the three powers in the Indian Ocean is shown at Appendix Q attached. The littoral countries are going to play a major role in the ongoing power struggle because of their strategic locations. It is clearly evident that of the three most influential countries, it is China who is making forays in the domain of other countries and projecting its power in the far flung areas. The point to ponder is Is this Showcase of Power a Case of Expansionist China or Is it Economic Necessity of China . In the present situation it is a mix of both. Before moving any further it is vital to analyze the conflicting situation in the region. 19.In the case of China till now the focus continues to be on the Pacific and not on the IOR with principal interest at this juncture in the need to protect the Sea Lanes of Communications (SLOCS) along the Indian Ocean, vital for the country s energy imports. • 26. The Rights Of Animal Testing A long time of debates go back and forth on the rights of all animals with further argument or debates, do humans have the right to use animals on medical testing and lab use? There are several issues that can be placed in this argument this research will acknowledge four important topics in the rights of animal testing. Is it right to use animals for testing? Is it right to compare animal DNA to human DNA in these animal experiments? Is it right to use real animals instead of computers to generate results? Is it right to state animals are being protected and cared for while giving toxins to make them sick? Therefore, the question needs to be asked if animals should be used for scientific experiments in labs all across the globe. The on going attacks on the lab staff s morals, attacked on facilities and the lack of support from the public have made medical testing on animals a significant dilemma among the public. The two organizations that are in the middle of this argument are the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and Americans for Medical Progress (AMP). AMP defends that animals are biologically similar to humans and are susceptible to over 200 diseases and play a vital role in advances in medical care and treatments. Many of these successes have created treatments, cures and vaccines that have increased health care resources for both human and animals a like. The problem with this success comes the concern on whether or not it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These are just a few questions I found myself struggling with seven years ago. In fourth grade while reading audibly, my teacher noticed I might have a reading disability. As I skipped lines, mixed up words, and even confused words as others, my teacher discussed the concern with my parents. Were there eye problems, was it dyslexiaor a learningdisorder? Being that all of these conditions were checked, with no conclusive answer, we only knew I was behind on my reading and comprehension skills. According to the American Lung Association in 2009, 20.6% of adults were current smokers. In 1970, the United States banned television and radio advertisements of cigarettes. Across the world countries battle similar issues in how to help prevent deaths, lower healthcare costs, and educate the population. Countries have banned advertising, posted health causes, renamed brands, and even included informational fliers in packs of cigarettes. In 2001, The Government of India decided to ban the advertising of cigarettes. This ban was created to help the youth of India and hoped to reduce the amount of future smokers. The proposal of this restriction caused debates between the government, advertising companies, and tobaccomanufacturers. The supporting and dismantling arguments for these ethical and commercial causes of the ban have enabled the government to make their final decision. The Government of India has created an anti tobacco plan to tackle the growing issues of tobacco, health concerns, and rising death toll. Their first goal was to eliminate advertising as this was perceived to encourage the youth to take up the dangerous habit. • 30. Examples Of Tim Johnson In To Kill A Mockingbird In To Kill a Mockingbird there are many themes that Tim Johnson represents. The main theme would be racism, but there are other themes such as problems Atticus has to face, those who resent racism in Maycomb, and the lingering sensation of the people of Maycomb not wanting to do certain things. On top of this, Tim Johnson is a representation of the suffering the African Americans in Maycomb. Finally, To Kill a Mockingbird is a fictional book that can still be applied in today s society. For example, the story talks about Atticus Finch, a lawyer from Maycomb, Alabama, who takes on a court case in which an innocent African Americanis accused of rape. The story also talks about the struggles of Finch s children, Scout and Jem, as they live their lives being bullied for their father s actions. With that being said, To Kill a Mockingbird also consists of many themes that make the story applicable to the current world. An example of a theme in the story would be Tim Johnson, a sick dog that Atticus had to put down. Finally, the dying dog shows many characteristics that the people of Maycomb also show. The main and most hinted at theme that Tim Johnson represents would be racism. Tim Johnson is an old sickly dog, that needs to be put out of its misery, just as Maycomb is when dealing with racism. Are any of the time intervals approximately constant? There were two intervals remained constant between at rest and after exercise, the PR interval and the RT interval (there was a clinically insignificant 0.01 second increase in the RT interval after exercise, however I suspect this was likely due to measurement error error rather than an actual increase). 2. With the exception of the R R interval, which time interval shows the greatest difference between resting and post exercise? Explain this observation. Two intervals did show a significant shorting post exercise. Besides the RR interval, the other recorded interval which contained a marked shortening after exercise was the TP interval. Technology has become an increasingly dominant means of communication as it allows for information to be stored and shared across great distances. Since its introduction in 2007, approximately 43.7 million Kindle e readers have been sold as of late 2014 (Trefis Team 2014). The Kindle does not seek to replace physical books; rather it uses technological convergence to store dense digital information on small, portable physical spaces. This isn t to say that new mediums have replaced older formats altogether; on the contrary, they have altered them to suit the change in how we communicate. One could argue that the decline of traditional media at the hands of media convergence prompted the incorrect presumption that old media was being superseded by the new (Lugmayr Dal Zotto 2015, pp. 4). Conversely, modern commentators have argued that new and old media interact across different media forms and platforms. Jenkins asserts that new media technologies enabled the same content to flow through many different channels and assume many different forms (2006, pg. 10). Acland (2007) echoes this sentiment, reiterating that new digital media refashion old media formats. A country born of laws, rights and citizenship with the idea of a free people to govern over themselves, was the original intent of the American experience. However, America did not inherit traditional bonds of a national identity, so it had to rely on a few cultural foundations that became critical in deciding who belonged in the American experience. The pillars seemed to be a common language of English, a religionbased on a broad view of Christianity, and the notion of a traditional family. As more people were included politically, more people were excluded culturally if they did not conform to some version of those three expected characteristics. The abuse of power transcended national boarders as the U.S. government turned a blind eye to American troops engaged in the unleashed and unchecked torture of prisoners of war. The use of torture is not in the national interest, as it has been found that the intelligence gained through torture is unreliable. Like the Japanese after Pearl Harbor, America consistently presses or even oversteps its Constitutional boundaries in times of national security. The cultural foundations deeply ingrained in the American experience provide little relief towards an amicable concept of Rooted Cosmopolitanism. Southern California is an outlier, geographically dethatched with an aura of modernity. Rapidly advancing modernization and an influx of religious diversity emerged in tandem; the effect Christianity molded to secular exigencies shaping a pluralistic state. However, Southern California reflects a religious model independently formed, largely out of reach from the grip of ripened American values and democratic traditions prevailing in the eastern part of the country. The distasteful reality, in which Roof did not address, is what would happen if Southern California bred the emergence of a religious practice similar to that of polygamy in Utah? Essay On Counterculture In The 1960s One of the most exciting things about studying more recent history is almost intrinsically connected to the advent of the photographic camera, which offers spontaneous imagery of events in the moment that the artwork of the past could only attempt to recreate. The transition from black and white with a burst of color following the Second World War offered to the public eye a realistic representation of events that they had not had the opportunity to experience before. Color photographs boomed in the decades following the war, which provides historians today with a wide breadth of visual sources with which to corroborate other materials. This is especially true when examining the documentation of the counterculture in the 1960s. Similarly, the hippie counterculture eventually developed a strong anti war sentiment regarding the American intervention in Vietnam. However, the doctrine of love and pacifism resulted in the hippies never developing militant behaviors in the way that the members of SDS did.
