LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can
occur natural.

Outline the main ways in which a large centralised organisation might achieve a more flexible
organised structure. Using examples, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of pursuing greater
organisational flexibility
The structures that organisations adopt are usually aligned to one of five generic organisational
structures. These are the simple structure, the functional structure, the divisional structure, the
holding company structure and the matrix structure. (Capon, C. (2009) the business environment.
Chapter 4: Inside organisations. ) This essay will explain the various ways of how a large
centralised organisation achieves a more flexible structure through de centralisation. This essay will

The matrix structure integrates two structures together, often geographical and multi product
structures. For example, a company may have a department for a product A in Europe and for
Product A in Asia. One of the advantages of the Matrix structure is the convenience of experts
simplifying the sharing of knowledge between the goods. Another advantage of the matrix structure
is intra team communication, this allows ease of communication between the different functional
product groups within the same organisation, and similarly there is less pressure on managers,
quality monitoring is easier and skills are interchanged within departments of the same function
thus improving efficiency.
In the early 90 s the majority of IBM and the business press were convinced decentralisation
would aid the company in terms of flexibility, speed and entrepreneurial motivation . They
believed splitting up IBM into smaller companies would speed up processes and promote and
enhance efficiency, which can be true of decentralisation. Lou Gerstner was appointed CEO of
IBM in 1993. He was convinced IBM should remain centralised and to use its unique size and
capabilities to help customers integrate the diverse components of their information technology (IT)
systems . In the end IBM was loosened up but not completely decentralised. This worked

3. Effects Of Prison Experiment
Psychological Effects of Prison Philip Zimbardo s Stanford Prison Experiment remains an important
study in our understanding of how situational forces can influence human behavior (Cherry). The
purpose was to understand the development of norms and the effects of roles, labels, and social
expectations in a simulated prisonenvironment ( Stanford Prison Experiment ). What was
supposed to be a two week experiment only went on for six days because Philip G. Zimbardo
says our guards became sadistic and our prisoners became depressed and showed signs of extreme
stress ( Stanford Prison Experiment ). In 1971, the Stanford Prison Experiment successfully proved
that predefined roles strip away individuality, moral values, and dignity. Philip Zimbardowas the

Previously guards were told to make the prisoners feel powerless without physically harming
them (Ratnesar). Participants now assume that their job is to make the prisoners feel powerless,
which blinds them of how guards should actually treat prisoners. Prisoners are expected to obey
guards even when one of the guards lined up the other prisoners and had them chant aloud:
Prisoner #819 is a bad prisoner. Because of what Prisoner #819 did, my cell is a mess, Mr.
Correctional Officer. They shouted this statement in unison a dozen times ( Conclusion ). Prisoners
shame fellow inmates under the guards command because it is the right thing to do instead of
defending prisoner #819. Later the experiment ended early because it could be seen through
videotapes that the guards were escalating their abuse of prisoners in the middle of the night when
they thought no researchers were watching ( Conclusion ). Guards abuse their power instead of
using reasonable discipline because they know that they are the authority in this

4. The Power Of Power In Theseus And Cupid And Psyche
In Greek mythology, power is used negatively for their own advantage, however, in some parts of
the stories, power is used positively to help others as well. The text Mythology, by Edith Hamilton,
includes the history as well as the classic myths of Greek Mythology. Power is demonstrated both
positively and negatively in the stories of Theseusand Cupid and Psyche . Some characters with
power and status use their control for jealous intentions and revenge whereas, others use it for
the greater good of others. Firstly, characters such as Theseus and Jupiter use their power
positively towards other people. Other higher status personalities, such as King Aegeus and
Psyche s elder sisters, use their power negatively due to jealousy. Similarly, Minos and Venus
use their power for revenge against those who take something dear to themselves. Most
characters use their power negatively, however, there is evidence characters use their power
selfishly, some use their power responsibly. Theseus and his father, King Aegeus made a promise
that when Theseus returns to Athens he will change the sail of his ship from black to white to
confirm that he is alive. On his way back to Athens, Theseus forgets to change to ships sail. King
Aegeus notices the black flag and thinks that Theseus is dead and decides to kill himself. So
Theseus became King of Athens, a most wise and disinterested king. He declared to the people that
he did not wish to rule over them; he wanted a people s government

5. Cobb s Explosion
This setting has not been show in the film previously, therefore, the director intended this to
show the viewers that they may not be in reality. Cobb s question can also make the audience
think of their own dreams, and that they probably also only remember the middle of it, and gives
the realization that reality is a relative concept, because it gives the idea that there is no objective
reality. A hyperbolic sound of the table and cutlery rattling symbolizes that Ariadne realizes she is
dreaming, as her panicking results into the dream being disturbed. After a slight moment, the
streets, and side stores begin exploding one by one in slow motion, giving a reassurance that this
really is a dream, because in reality explosions do not occur in... Show more content on

As the hallway is continuously rotating 360 degrees showing Arthur and an enemy constantly
fighting, it causes questions to rise within the audience such as; How did the director manage to
successfully create this zero gravity scene? How did the cameraman manage to shoot this scene
if he was rotating too? The director planned and directed this scene this way in order to make the
audience ask these questions to themselves, because it causes curiosity as to how this scene was
made since it looks so realistic and unique. This scene created an effect on me, because I was
very fascinated in how they achieved this scene as I have never watched a scene like this one
before. This scene created suspense for me, because I was constantly wondering what was going
to happen next, and was thinking were they going to fail the mission? Or will it be a success?
Will the zero gravity negatively affect them? Because I have never watched a scene like this in
other films, it made me more intrigued than I already was from the previous scenes. The director
s intent to create this zero gravity scene was to symbolize the aspect of the sci fi genre of this
movie, as it could link to futuristic science and technology which is an aspect of sci fi films. He
also intended the dim lighting in order to symbolize the aspect of

6. Five Themes Of Geography
Over the course of the centuries maps have been used to find locations all over the world. They
have evolved and to become more advanced, thanks to technology. Of course, there are specific
ways to use a map such as basic components. Basic components include a compass rose which
indicates the cardinal directions. Legends is the key where symbols are used to help find a point
on the map, or in other words, lead the way. A scale can range from as far as a continent to as
close as a house. All these components are important while using a map. The most accurate way to
represent the world is through map projection. There are different types of map projections like
Mercator Projectionand Robinson Projection. Mercator Projections is more accurate in shapes and
shows representations bigger than it really is. Robinson Projection on the other hand is more
accurate in both size and shape makes it flatter and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Five Themes of Geography Every place in the world has different ways of using their
location. Where I live, I usually use relative location because everything is linked. For example,
my house is only 3 blocks away from my school. Or in other words it takes me only 10 minutes
to get to school. Another example would be, the closest store is only one street away. Near the
store is the gas station which also makes it close to my house. It is easy to reach any place at any
given time. There are many things that make a place unique, the environment, culture, government
structure, economic activities, and much more. Mauritania is very big and vast, but also empty.
Only a small part of it holds human activity, and the rest is just an empty desert. Many places in
the world ressemble my country especially in Africa. Libya, Egypt, and Sudan, for example, are
all covered in desert and also follow the Islamic religion. Mongolia and Namibia also relate to
Mauritania by having a large amount of land, low population density and poor economic

7. Definition Essay On Betrayal
Over the past few years of my life, I ve witnessed and felt betrayal. As I get older I ve had Friends
, Family and people around my betray me. You start noticing people that you least expect
leaving you when you most need them. I ve also betrayed someone in the form of seducing and
leaving her. There could be many ways of you betraying someone and not even noticing how
they could react to it. One example of me betraying someone and not noticing how I messed up,
with a little Joke . Was when I a little drops of water and I flicked it at a Friend, the water didn t
land on him but he was able to catch me on the act. He took it as a sign of disrespect and not
loyal. As as Sign of future betrayal. I understood his mature way of thinking and my childish way of

people could relate to this type of betrayal and I think it s one of the harshest way someone could
betray you. Second example of Betrayal is to deliver something to an enemy by treachery. I once
had a guy from school that i didn t like and we both hated each other. What I did was messed up, I

8. The European Union And Domestic Legal Systems And The...
The concern here was that the lawyers do not have any certifications, schooling, or experience in
judging cases. In the new ICS proposal there are changed made, as EU Commissioner Cecilia
Malmstrom explains:
the judges will be publically appointed in advance. And, like in courts, you won t be able to choose
which judges hear your case. Furthermore, we will guarantee there is no conflict of interest. Again,
like in domestic and international courts, the judges won t be able to continue any activities which
might interfere with their judicial functions. Finally, I want to introduce an Appeal Tribunal. Just
like in domestic legal systems and the World Trade Organization. (Malmstrom)
This change in the appointment of judges could mean that the public opinion in a case could be
more weighted by shifting the power from the companies to the international system. The European
Union brings the reforms on ISDS as a solution to a system that was broken. But, there is much
discussion about the necessity of a framework like ISDS and the ICS. Especially for high
developed countries there might be less reason for an Investor State court since their court systems
are already able to make unbiased decisions. European commissioner on Trade, Rupert Schiegelmig,
responded to this argument in a debate about the new ICS. Schiegelmich explained that even
though these court systems are highly developed, it is very hard to completely eliminate national
bias. He adds to that that European

Introducing the man who practically built America. Henry Ford was an automobile manufacturer
who, in 1903, established the Ford Motor Company. In 1908, he created the Ford Model T car in
the shed located behind his home. This car was the most popular car of all time due to its cheap
prices (compared to early automobiles) and it s constant availability (Ford Model T). Henry Ford
transformed the automobilefrom an invention to an innovation and it continues to affect our lives

As a child, Ford was passionate about disassembling and then reassembling timepieces. In 1879,
Ford was an apprentice machinist, where he would operate and service several steam engines.
Nine years later, he became an engineer with the Edison Illuminating Company and finally had
enough time and money to experiment with gasoline engines. He invented the Ford Quadricycle,
test drove it, and then began improvements. These improvements led to the making of the Model
T, introduced on October 1, 1908. The Model T was just a more basic version of what cars are
driven today: steering wheel on the left, enclosed engine and transmission, four cylinders cast in a
solid block. All of this was just eight hundred and twenty five dollars, which would be twenty two
thousand, four hundred and seventy dollars today. The price dropped every year, so the Model T

11. Summary Of To The Lighthouse By Virginia Woolf
Reading the novel To The Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf was hard labor. Every page I turned
made me feel that I was in a different place at a different time. Due to the lack of its plot and
entertainment, this novel, unfortunately, would immediately fail to engage teenagers, as well as
other readers, who are not as interested as Virginia Woolf
, to study the humans consciousness and
the way time moves over the courses of our days.
In our everyday lives, we always expect, including myself, to read a story that has a well
structured plot and that also brings us to a journey that will remain with us forever. While it is
true that, I was notified multiple times that modernist novels are texts that will either keep a
person up all night staring at the clock on the wall, pressing their back against the wall or pulling
their skin off their bones, I still expected to find a story in To The Lighthouse that unfolds through
a chronological order because there is always a cause and effect, a beginning, middle, and end, to
every story. However, this was not to be the case. Part one of the noveldid not have a story at all. It
was mainly characters consciousness flowing into one another across the pages, because of that, I
almost wanted to throw the book in the air and even to burn it to dust. However, now that I am
looking back, I would have never picked up this book to read by the shore under the summer skies.
Despite the disorganization of part one, I managed to get through from page to

I attended a jazz concert on April 7, 2016. The jazz concert was performed by the Page brothers,
Mike Willis, and Justin Butler. Justin Butler accompanied the other instrumentalists in one song.
The instruments used during the jazz concert was a guitar, bass, drums, and shakers. The
performance was located in the theater at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute. The
jazzconcert was informal. The venue was favorable for the jazz concert. The instrumentalist played
on a stage while the audience sat in the seats. The theater was small so the jazz musicwas easy to
hear. However, there was a lot of people attending the concert so the theater was crowded. The
audience was able to see the performers because of how the theater seats are set up. Also, the room
was completely dark except for the stage so I was able to focus primarily on the performers.
Overall, I liked the jazz concert performed by the Page Brothers.
The jazz concert performed by the Page brothers was informal. The Page brothers were dressed
casual. They wore jeans and a button up shirt. However, one performer wore a suit. The performers

13. Food Insecurity Essay
Listening to conversations about food on campus, I found that there was a common theme last
year: it was difficult to find healthy food on campus. I think we ll find that to be less of the case
this year, especially with N Rich recently opening in the Union, and a new service called
Instacart that will deliver groceries to campus. However, despite an expanded variety of options
to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables, the problem of food insecurity has hardly been
addressed. Food insecurity is the state of being without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of
affordable, nutritious food, according to the Oxford Dictionary. It is a widespread problem on
college campuses across the nation. While food insecurity only impacts 14% of households,
48% of college students claim to be food insecure. This problem disproportionately impacts first
generation college students, students of color, and students who need financial aid, as noted by
the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness. Today, these students still
have few resources to address this problem. Last year, I was excited to see N Rich open. I toured
inside and out, and saw that it increased my options to buy healthy food on campus. Though there
s valid argument that N Rich s variety is small, for the first time in my college career, I did not
have to travel over a mile to buy an onion. N Rich opens up options for students with more meal
plan money than they need. But for students who need to ration

16. Elizabethan Poetry
Elizabethan Poetry I
Drama dominates our syllabus but the Renaissance was a Golden Age not just for English drama,
but also for English poetry. But what was English poetry?
George Puttenham s The Arte of English Poesie (1589) and Sir Philip Sidney s The Defense of
Poesie (1595): early attempts to think about English poetry as a distinct national tradition.
Puttenham and Sidney were concerned to build a canon and help shape English poetry into a
tradition capable of rivalling more prestigious literatures (for example of Italy and France).
The courtly lyric/ Petrarchan love sonnet introduced to English by Sir Thomas Wyatt and Henry
Howard, Earl of Surrey: not the only poetic genre in the Renaissance, but one of the most
interesting, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How do we understand the pain and frustration expressed in this poetry? How can we make sense
of this form and its popularity? Three points/suggestions:
1.Renaissance writers and critics generally did not value poetry in terms of its genuineness or
sincerity. The idea that poetry should be genuine or sincere is a much more recent conception,
which goes back to the Romantic period.
2.Writing Petrarchan poetry was part of a cultural performance, a way of demonstrating wit, grace
and mastery i.e. sprezzatura . Consider the extreme competitiveness of the Elizabethan courtly
milieu.
3.Petrarchan conventions also function as a code for other, non erotic problems and experiences.
Wyatt, Surrey and Sidney belonged to England s most illustrious families and were all extremely
proud and ambitious men, but they didn t always get the treatment they thought they deserved. The
use of Petrarchan conventions to vent frustrated ambition became especially widespread after 1558,
when there was a woman on the throne.
Finally a few words about Sir Philip Sidney (1554 86), the Elizabethan courtier, diplomat,
politician, soldier, scholar, lover, patron and poet (QEI: the most accomplished gentleman in Europe
). Dying at 32 in the Netherlands fighting for Elizabeth s army in the war against Catholic Spain,
Sidney was turned into a quasi mythical figure, supposedly embodying all truly English
gentlemanly virtues.

offspring that he was duped into not swallowing, Zeus. It could be said that by trying to change the
tides of fate in his favor, Cronus was the one who orchestrated this very fate into being. Born of

Surely the bad blood between himself and his children would not have come to be if he had not
attempted to suppress his children who held a power he so feared, and surely his wife would not

senses: the situation in having karmic retribution for the misdeeds he did against his father and the
actions he attempted in stopping this destiny from happening but ultimately being the catalyst that
incited the fate into actuality are exact examples of absurdity.

Many immigrants across the country have contributed to making the society we are familiar with
today. They have helped in small and big ways. Albert Einstein, Alfred Hitchcock, and Irving Berlin
are just three of the most famous immigrants that have made the biggest differences in various
ways. Immigrants have positively impacted science, music, and technology in many ways in the
United States. Immigrants like Albert Einstein have forever changed how we learn science.
Einstein has provided evidence for the atomic theory, and he proposed the special theory of
relativity, wave theory, and photon theory (Goldenstern 51) (Anirudh). In Einstein s special theory
of relativity, Einstein says that space and time are linked together. According to Elizabeth Howell,

different. Experimentalists were then able to count the number of atoms in an element under a

In the story Mrs. Sen s , Lahiri presents the struggles of assimilating into a new country and
portrays how lonely and restricted immigrants can feel. She is able to do this through her use of
the character, Mrs. Sen, a woman who is originally from India. Throughout the story we see how
difficult it is for Mrs. Sen to assimilate to the lifestyle in America. Her days, usually consist of
staying in an apartment while her husband teaches at a nearby university. Mrs. Sen s Indian
lifestyle still seems very prominent, all her furniture is still wrapped in plastic, the shoes are all
lined in a bookcase by the front door, she refuses to purchase fish from the supermarket and she
uses an abnormal blade to do her cooking. All of this illustrating how perhaps she is not ready to
let go of her Indian lifestyle and assimilate. Mrs. Sen is representative of the struggles of
assimilation, which often include feelinglonely and restriceted. She always relies on Mr. Sen, she
barely knows anybody, she often misses her family and she cannot seem to make America feel like

Throughout the story we begin to notice how Mrs. Sen is a somewhat lonely person. This
however, is not by choice. She does not know too many people other than her husband, a man who

Japan is often recognized as a land of peace, beauty, and diverse landscapes and climates that
cannot be witnessed anywhere else on the planet. A majority of Japanese citizens practice
Shintoism, a polytheistic religion whose gods exist within plants and animals. Because of this, an
appreciation for nature is ingrained deep into the foundation of Japan s values. This can be seen
throughout the country s entire history; much of its art and poetry has been focused solely on its
natural beauty. Sudden Shower Over Shin Ohashi Bridge and Atake is a famous Japanese
woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige published in 1857, one of many that shows an appreciation
for Japan s beautiful landscapes. The print belongs the ukiyo egenre that emerged between the 17th
and 19th century. Ukiyo e literally translates to pictures of the floating world and the style
dominated the art of Japan s Edo Period. What began as a reflection of Japan s indulgent and
hedonistic culture, portraying subjects like beautiful women and extravagant scenes from the
Kabuki theater, gradually transitioned into capturing landscapes and the lives of average people.
Hiroshige was one of the pioneers of this transition with his famed One Hundred Famous Views
of Edo, a 119 piece series that features celebrated landscapes in his hometown of Edo, known as
Tokyo today, and his last great success before his death. Sudden Shower Over Shin Ohashi Bridge

the procedures enable the analysis of information for the patient s care, research, performance
improvement, healthcare planning and facility management. The diagnosis codesare divided into
chapters, sections, subsections, and subcategories (1). A coder should become familiar with all
of the codes before the individual moves on. It is very important to understand when an
additional code or codes are needed, what codes are secondary, and when additional information
may be needed to complete the code (1). Also, the coder should always code the reason why the
patient sought medical advice as the main diagnosis (1). There are many rules when using
diagnostic and procedural codes. By using the national diagnostic and procedural coding system
correctly the coder will have no trouble on finding the right codes to use for the case scenarios.
The information the coder needs to get from the health records is very important because this will
provide the correct information on the claim when it is billed out. If the steps are not followed
correctly then the information being submitted will not be correct. Here are the steps that need to
be taken to find the proper sequencing when diagnosing and coding are the coder needs to find the
main term or terms in the patient s medical records.

29. Analysis Of The Sale Of Neiman Marcus Group
Factual Background/ Summary
This negotiation, which occurred in 2005, was regarding the sale of Neiman Marcus Group
(Neiman) and joint corporate agency comprising of 2 large private equity firms namely Texas
Pacific Group (TPG) and Warburg Pincus (Warburg). It is potent to note that at the time of the said
acquisition, Neiman was at the height it s industry (refered as the crown jewel ) , i.e its managerial
team was held in high esteem, their stocks were at an optimum level, their financial health was
exceptional with investment grade credit and inconsequential debt.

In addition, protections were laid down by Neiman, in their favour, which binded the buyers and

It was highlighted by Howard Raiffa that there are certain organising questions that need to be
answered for the identification of significant characteristics of every negotiation. Firstly, he
proposed that the primary question to be answered is in regards to the number of individuals or
group of individuals involved, i.e the size and the presence or absence of internal conflicts in the
groups.
As mentioned above, the key parties involved are Neiman, TPG, Warburg, their respective lawyers
as well as Neiman s banker, Goldman Sachs.
Formation of Deal
Neiman Marcus constituted a significant portion of the Smith family s dynastic wealth.
Nevertheless, due to a tax obstacle as a result of a prior restructuring had just become obsolete and
because there was had been favourable sale in the retail industry, 2005 seemed like an adequate if
not perfect moment to be taken advantage of by the Smith faimly with the sale of Neiman.
The board of directors proceeded with an evaluation of their option

30. Digital Gap In Australia Essay
Participation and Digital Divide
Laptops, smartphones, smartwatches and the Internet are all good examples that show how much
human life has been relying on digital technologies in the past two decades. Nevertheless, digital
divide, the phenomenon that not all people have access to digital technologies, still prevails in
Australia. The recent Australia Digital Inclusion Index (ADII) report states that the increase in
Internet coverage in the country has been little in the last three years, especially in South Australia
and Tasmania, and the lower income group uses the Internet significantly less than the richer
(Thomas, 2017). This certainly has much to do with the affordability of hardware and Internet
services for people with low socioeconomic status, but such a divergence may also be explained by
the absence of infrastructure, such as the broadband network service, in the remote regions (Park et
al., 2015, p.3633). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, the problem in concern is not simply having access or not. People who suffer from this gap
in the use of digital technologies are believed to lose certain social and financial benefits
(McFadden, 2017), and this is not unique in Australia. In a 2014 Dutch survey, van Deursen and
van Dijk (2014, p.520) identified that the lower educated people, though surprisingly used the
Internet more than their more educated counterparts, were less likely to utilise the Internet for
information and personal development. This means that possessing suitable skills and attitude may
be more important than having access to digital technologies when it comes to benefitting the

31. Memory Is The Diary That We All Carry About With Us
Oscar Wilde said that Memory... is the diary that we all carry about with us. Every page of our
diary filled with a series of memories, but we wouldn t make a perfectly diary. Sometimes we lost
pictures in the diary, sometimes we miss spell words; just like memories will become vague and
pass out of mind. The process of memoryincludes Encoding, Storage, and Retrieval; those three
parts correlate and restrict each other. Memory storage is a step encompasses how information is
retained over time (Laura, 2013). As two of the systems involved in memory storage short term
memory (STM) and the long term memory (LTM) and play an important role when people
recalling specific memory.
The paper will discuss both STM and LTM based on the textbook, then compare and contrast the
information on the textbook, to discuss memory psychologically. There are several resources
include this paper, although each resource explains and discusses different significant title, but
relevant to the information process in memory. The resources focus on the reason of memory
failure in order to explore the method to improve STM and long term memory. Those resources are
discovered in psychology database and intimately relate to the topic.
When you want to retain a phone number without paper and pen, people most likely will either
grouping number into chunk or rehearse the information constantly or visualize in your mind. This
is relying on what is known as STM also called scratch pad memory , that

32. Lunar Surface Processes And Its Impact On The Earth Essay
Lunar Surface Processes Complex alterations of the lunar surface occur, despite the fact that lunar
processes are much less varied and dynamic than those of the Earth. The most important source of
lunar surface alteration, at least over the last three billion years, is evidenced by the Moon s
heavily pocked and cratered surface. The Moonis continuously bombarded by external objects
ranging in size from small specks of dust to giant bodies tens of kilometers in diameter. These
impacts are governed primarily by gravity as the solar system continues to evolve. Celestial
bodies within the solar system are continually being rearranged by close encounters with one
another, altering orbits, and over the course of geologic time, causing collisions with other bodies.
These collisions result in two possible outcomes: fragmentation or cratering. If the colliding objects
are of a similar size, collisional fragmentation and annihilation occur, producing a large number of
smaller fragments from both involved bodies. If the objects are of differing sizes, collision results
in an impact crateron the target body. Since objects that encounter the Moon are dramatically
smaller than the Moon itself, cratering occurs. Typical impact velocities of asteroidal objects on the
Moon are between 15 and 25 km/sec. With these high velocities, in combination with the high
frequency of impact, the cumulative kinetic energy on lunar surface exceeds the lunar internal
energy released by

33. Summary Of The NovelThe Assault By Henry Mulisch
In the novel, The assault, Henry Mulisch s narrative style allows the readers to dig a lot deeper
than to just skim through the pages. By allowing the readers to put themselves inside the story, he
brings out in his novel the true meaning of what a human goes through and how they cope with
tragedies from a serious life event; in this case, a violent assault. By reading Mulisch s novel you
get to see inside Anton s miseries and see his life from a different perspective. Anton is constantly
looking for reassurance in his life for what happened to him in his violent childhood. The violence
that had happened to him has made him suppress his memories and he does not seek to find the
true answers to what had happened that horrible day. He tries to numb himself from his past and
push through life to try to live normally while trying to push past his feelings of his violence.
While Anton struggles with life and his suppressed memories, he faces several aspects of life
throughout the time has helped him stitch in the missing pieces of the violent occurrences of the
assault. This brings himself one step closer to coming to piece with all his memories each time he
breaks down a piece of that distance that he has formed between that life event and himself. This
being said, Henry Mulisch shows the readers how Anton eventually comes to terms with his
suppressed memories of his violence from his past with time.
The main aspect of the novel, The Assault, is the violence that has come upon Anton during his
childhood. The night of the murder of his family has been a heavy memory that has been sitting
deep inside his mind over the years. During the night of the assault, Anton mutters the words For I
was born with bad luck and I ll die with bad luck... (13) This passage is significant to the rest of the
novel because it gives an idea to the readers what kind of misery and misfortune Anton will
encounter throughout his life during each page of this novel. At first, Anton does not accept the
violence that has happened to him and is not willing to move on from his past. He does not want to
face the memories that have brought him such misery throughout his life. The memories of the
violent assault are much more painful to Anton

34. Hobbes Social Contract Essay
The natural state of man has been a reoccurring theme when reviewing the history of political
philosophy and theory. This study has helped societies develop laws and common goals. Thomas
Hobbes (1588 1679) theory is still strikingly relevant in today s law and order. His main concern
was how people lived: how to avoid war since people lived in defensive fear. Jean Jacques Rousseau
(1712 1778) challenged Hobbes s philosophy. He says, The passage from the state of nature to the
civil state produces a very remarkable change in man, by substituting justice for instinct in his
conduct. In other words, he thought that men were good by nature and when exposed to society
they are corrupted. Although both philosophers study the course of society, they have very
divergent views. This paper will examine both theories of the social contract. Thus, I will later
conclude why Hobbes has a more feasible hypothesis.
In Leviathan chapter 12, Hobbes describes society and the state of nature as such; No arts; no
letters; no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death: and the
life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short. People are encouraged to act freely, but with
precautions as they may pose a threat to others survival. As stated above, humankind is constantly
threatened since we naturally have a built in defensive mechanism. He says, ...the passions that
incline men to peace are: fear of death; desire of such things as are necessary to

36. Questions on Innovation Management and iPod Licensing
Innovation Management IPod Licensing Question 1 Innovation management and organisational
characteristics Innovation is one word that is commonly used, but the real meaning of the word
has never been revealed to the masses that use the term almost every day. Now, what is
Innovation? Innovation is the process by which an invention or an idea is transformed into a
tangible good or service, which people can actually pay, or something that is a result of the process.
For an idea to qualify to be an innovation, a replication of an idea must occur at economical cost and
must meet a certain need. Innovation therefore is a purposeful appliance of imagination, initiative
and information in deriving value from resources, it also encompasses all the processes by which
the new ideas are engendered and turned into useful products. In business particularly, innovation
results from the application of a scientific or rather the technical idea that can reduce the gap
between the expectations and the ideas of the consumers and the performance of the companies
products. On the other hand in a social set up, innovation is also important in coming up with new
method such as venturing jointly, creation of alliances, creation of flexible hours of working, and
generally creating the purchasing power of the buyers, through various methods such as the
layaway plans. Innovations are categorised into two broad ways: Evolutionary innovations, this is

37. Water Is An Essential Aspect Of Life
Everyday humans and animals all across the world consume large amounts of water to keep their
bodily systems functioning. While water is an essential aspect of life it can also be dangerous as
most water will never be 100% pure, as such water will contain what is known as contaminants.
There are many forms of contaminants ranging from microorganisms to chemicals. These
contaminants have the ability to cause serious health issues depending of the amount consumed.
This has serious effect on third world countries such as those within Africa. As the populations of
countries increase more water is needed but less safe supplies are present. This has required new
ways of supplying water beyond what was previously necessary. As such methods of purification
have become necessary for creating enough safe water to drink, however some of these methods
have serious drawbacks which need to be considered. Water is a fundamental aspect of human life
and as such it is essential that safe sources of water be created to supply the ever growing
population of the world. Contaminants There are many types of contaminants which will
contaminate water supplies. These include: microorganisms, chemicals (specifically heavy metals),
radionuclides and some disinfectants and their byproducts. Microorganisms are present in all fresh
water supplies, including: bacteria, algae and protozoa. Some microorganisms are completely
harmless while some microorganisms can cause diseases in humans. Common

38. The State And State Sovereignty
Introduction This paper discusses the crucial issue of electoral systems and their peculiar utility
to the effective representation in the national legislature (and even the executive) of the diverse
interests within the state. This discussion is in no way novel as it has been one of the most age
old and fundamental questions in the study of politics. Controversially, it can be said that before
the question of how the state and state sovereignty (popularly led by John Locke and Thomas
Hobbes) gained traction, the question of who must govern the state and how that governor must
be chosen had already enjoyed some dissection. Plato s classical concept of the Philosopher King
for instance, buttresses the latter assertion. To Plato, the reins of supreme power in the state had
to be given to an authority that wielded an appreciable grasp of philosophy. To him, if a state
wanted to choose a leader that could best ensure the wellbeing of all, that person must be a
philosopher as the philosopher would know the interests of the people and pursue it accordingly.
Plato also suggested that the Philosopher King had to surround himself with wise men for the
purposes of seeking counsel. Aristotle criticized Plato s theory and doubted that it was viable for
one man to know of the interests of all and also to be entrusted with so much power but would not
abuse it. This conversation that began thousands of years ago has recorded succinct inputs from
many other thinkers and scholars. In

39. Effectiveness Of Body Weight Management
INTRODUCTION
Many procedures used for body weight management by athletes can lead to a number of negative
side effects which could play a significant role in decreasing physiological performance during the
competitive season. Most of the time this occurs with athletes trying to lose weight to perform at a
lighter weight class in their respective sport. Some of the methods used to reach a lower desired
body weight include low calorie diets, deliberate dehydration, and saunas (Oppliger, 2003). These
methods have been shown to decrease strength and power, overall health, physiological function,
water balance, electrolytes, glycogen and lean body mass in athletes (Oppliger, 1996).
If athletes could utilize a diet that would avoid these negative side effects but still allow them to
reach their desired weight goal, all while maintaining their strength, power and lean mass this
could be a truly useful method to allow peak performance during competition. One of the sports
where maintaining muscular size, and definition while decreasing body fat is extremely important
is bodybuilding (Slater, 2011). One of the more popular methods for bodybuilders to do this is by
using a very low carbohydrate ketogenic diet (VLCKD).
VLCKD is a diet in which the daily carbohydrate intake is less than 30 grams a day. This restriction
limits glucose availability to tissues, stimulating ketogenisis in the liver. The physiological function
of ketosis is to supply the heart and central nervous system

food. It gained its popularity long time ago and since lots of Italian dishes became leaders in
restaurants. Due to growing interest of general public to Italian foodnumerous food restaurant
networks have emerged in the United States. Moreover, only one third of so called Italian food is

much a fear of the monsters themselves and their grotesque and gigantic appearances, but what
they represented in the films. Take the film Them! for example. Ants exposed to radiations as a
result of nuclear testing, has turned them into gigantic, mutated ants that are terrorizing the
people of New Mexico. The giant mutant ants are used in the film to not only show the dangers
of nuclear war, but to portray the soviets in a new way. In the film, Dr.Medford refers to ants in
general as savage, ruthless, and courageous fighters . By labeling the ants as savage and almost
barbaric creatures, the same could be said about the Soviets at the time. The Soviets were seen as
hard, and crude like the ants in the film, who attacked and killed innocent people.By looking at the
poster for the film, we can see the correlation between ants and Communists. The poster features a

Both the giant ants and the soviets were seen to operate as a hydra. It didn t matter if you killed one

Rosen s purpose of her article is to argue that social networking sites are doing more harm than

a plethora of examples and sources to make her argument/ideas credible. Rosen used one of
Stanley Milgram s studies to show how there were six degrees of separation, but now with social

Also she uses a survey by the Pew Internet and American Life Project that states more than half of
all Americans between the ages of twelve and seventeen use some online social media coverage of

However, these ambitious individuals decide to stick to their goals and push for success. James

as the film progresses his confidence does as well. To begin, James stood up against his father
when his father made inaccurate assumptions about him. For instance, when James came home
late at night, his father thought that he had been out with a girl and drinking. He used to be a
nervous child who would just listen and apologize to his father right away. However,
progression is shown in James character when he decides to protest against his father s false
accusations. He displayed a lot of emotion to get his message across as he showed tears and even
raised his voice. Evidently, James shows that he now has a voice as he now decides to go against
his father s wrong claims. He believes that he needs to stand up for himself as a result of

51. Who Is Vincent Van Gogh s The Courtesan – An Image Of...
zia (ARTH 110 01 Dr. Baluyut), December 6th, 2016.
Van Gogh s The Courtesan An Image of Utopia
Beginning in the 1870s and extending into the 1900s, two major styles of art became prevalent in
the country of France; Impressionism and Post Impressionism. Impressionism resulted from the
feelings of chaos and instability from a major increase in population, showing scenes in a sketch
like manner through a portrayal of senses. By the mid 1880s, Post Impressionism emerged, causing
a return from the spontaneity that was missing traditional elements and explored expressing
emotion while still using formal elements. Vincent Van Goghused the Post Impressionist influence
of Japonisme, the Japanese aesthetic associated with the new useage of ... Show more content on

The main subject, the woman, was essentially copied and enlarged from a woodblock print by
Keisai Eisen featured on the cover of a popular magazine in France from May 1886. Though the
background of the garden scene does demonstrate some use of perspective, the main central image
of the Japanese woman remains very flat and one dimensional, a technique typical in wood block
prints. The dark outlines on a majority of the environment is reminiscent of methods used to
produce a Japanese print. He used many Japanese motifs in the work, such as the bamboo, water
lilies, and the boat in the landscape portion of the painting, paying homage to the culture Van Gogh
was borrowing so heavily from by utilizing well known symbols of the

52. Stono- Rebellion
Stone rebellion in South Carolina Claiming roughly eighty black and white lives and involving
as many as one hundred slaves and perhaps as many whites, the Stono Rebellion of September
1739 was one of the most significant and violent slave uprisings in colonial America. Although
the rebels failed in their attempt to reach St. Augustine and claim freedom under Spanish rule, the
revolt shaped South Carolina slave society in some important ways and its legacy lingered for
years after the event. The rebellion began at the Stono River in St. Paul s Parish, near Charleston,
South Carolina. Several factors played a role in the timing of the rebellion. It is likely that the
slaves organized their revolt to take place before September... Show more content on

The colony also imposed a prohibitive duty on the importation of new slaves in 1741 in an effort
to stem the growth of South Carolina s slave population. A system of rewards for slaves who
betrayed plots and imminent revolts was initiated, and finally, South Carolina tried to inspire
loyalty to their owners by introducing slaves to a slanted form of Christianity. Although these
provisions placed tighter controls on slaves, they were not wholly effectual in regulating slave
behavior. South Carolina slaves continued to revolt and conspire periodically throughout the
colonial and antebellum period. Moreover, the drive for profit ensured that the moratorium on the
slave trade lasted only three years, and by the mid 1740s, African slaves were again being imported
at a rate and level that ensured that South Carolina s black population would remain large.
However, the ferocity of the Stono Rebels heightened the anxieties of whites over internal security
in South Carolina slave holding society for years to come. The example of the Stono insurrection
inspired some northern abolitionist literature in the antebellum period and remained in the
memories of African Americans well into the twentieth

53. Essay on Coping Mechanisms in Kurt Vonnegut’s...
People react differently to tragedies: some mourn, some speak up, and some avoid the sorrow. In
Slaughterhouse Five, Kurt Vonnegut suggests the danger and inhumanity of turning away from the
discomfort by introducing Billy Pilgrim as someone who is badly affected by the aftermath of the
Dresden bombing, and the Tralfamadorians as the aliens who provide an easy solution to Billy. It is
simpler to avoid something as tragic as death, but Vonnegut stresses the importance of confronting
it. Vonnegut, like many artists, expresses his ideas through his creations. The significance of art is
not confined to helping and inspiring the general public; the process of creating art also becomes
another form of coping mechanism for artists. In... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the greatest impacts caused by disasters is one s motivation for living. In Slaughterhouse
Five, many characters display twisted minds after experiencing wars. Billy and Rosewater find
life meaningless, because they witness too many dead bodies in war; Lazzaro finds the sweetest
thing to be revenge. As wars bring distorted senses to people, Vonnegut presents two opposing
coping methods in Slaughterhouse Five: One is the Tralfamadorians passive idea and the other is
the narrator s humane notion. The overall concept of the Tralfamadorians is to ignore the awful
times, and concentrate on the good ones (Vonnegut 150). They do not look back, not even
forward; they focus on the scattering patch of good moments regardless of time. A similar idea is
how they have come to regard death: in bad condition in that particular moment, and that the
person is just fine in plenty of other moments. The thought it is more important that a person has
lived a brilliant life is comforting; however, it disregards the possibilities a person has as long as
he or she lives. In an interview, Vonnegut points out that he resents the promising ideas, the
Utopianism, in science fiction (qtd in Simpson 261). This is disclosed in Breakfast of Champions,
when Kilgore Trout indirectly

Then there is the game itself, which is also self changing every couple of weeks or so. These key
points help to define the game and give some consensus about how well the game actually is.
Firstly, there is how the people who play the game treat each other. There are generally two types of
players. One of these types of players are the people who treat everyone with respect and talk
nicely about others. The whole point of the game is to have fun and to play the way you want to
play. These are the people who you really should thank when in a game. They will help you to
understand the game and give many tips and tricks on how to play even better. Then you can
continue playing with them for even more help if needed. You can even add them to your friends
list to just play a casual game with them. These people are the persons players should look for.
There are, however, some people who aren t as great.
People do exist in the game where their only goal is making a player s life a virtual hell. These
people are often referred to as toxic players. These are the worst type of people as all they do is
make the game non pleasant. There are many different things they will do to take away the fun.
They will scream at you for every mistake you make, no matter how big. They assist the enemy
team to make sure that your team loses. They can even make players quit the round in the game
because they become sick of being harassed. In this game, you will defiantly encounter some of

55. Leadership Behavior, Team Development And Group Cohesion...
The purpose of this paper is to discuss relevant research regarding a number of concepts related to
group cohesion including: leadership behavior, team development and group cohesion as a
mediator. Coaching elements identified as being positively related to group cohesion include: the
quality of training and instruction, social support, positive feedback and leadershipstyle (Yarmey,
2013). In particular, a democratic leadership style has been found to promote the development of
team cohesion (Crocker, 2016). Empirical evidence suggests that group s progress through a set of
well defined stages before becoming a cohesive team. According to Tuckman s model of team
development these stages include: forming, storming, norming and performing.... Show more

Leadership Factors
Across many sports, research has provided empirical support for the connection between coaching
elements and team cohesion (Crocker, 2016). Specific coaching elements identified as being
positively related to group cohesion include: the quality of training and instruction, social support,
positive feedback and leadership style (Yarmey, 2013). In the YouTube clip, Al Pacino s Any Given
Sunday Speech , the coach appears to demonstrate effective leadership skills promoting the team s
cohesion. In his motivational speech, a degree of social support is provided through the fostering of
a positive atmosphere. In addition, he provides instructions for the team s success by emphasizing
that the group must work as a team in order to be successful in their upcoming game. Unfortunately,
this clip offers little insight into the coach s decision styles (an important leadership factor related
to group cohesion). Two opposing coaching leadership styles have been found to influence team
cohesion: the autocratic style and the democratic style. While the autocratic style involves
independent decision making by the coach, the democratic style stresses joint decision making and
