I was also interested in the Naval Academy as it is in my college list. In this particular situation

In Theodore Roethke Root Cellar , there is a heavy use of vivid and stylistic imagery. In the first
line, the speaker states, Nothing would sleep in that cellar, dank as a ditch. We are given that
something is refusing to sleep that is, to die and at the same time being dank gets us thinking
about things that are undead . In line two, the speaker states, Bulbs broke out of boxes hunting
for chinks in the dark. This tells us that things are still growing and they are looking for the light.
In the next following line the speaker mentions, Shoots dangled and dropped (3). This gives us
the image of the shoots coming out of the bulbs. The shoots dangle and droop towards whatever
light possible. In line four, the speaker gives us an idea of the type of housing they are in,

Growing up I was never one for exercising let only eating healthy. Bad habits don t die easily and

change my behavior. Cognitive dissonance theory explains the contradictions we have with our
behaviors and beliefs but it can also be used to get us to have positive behaviors.
Cognitive dissonance theory was created by Leon Festinger and to better explain his theory he
used the topic of smoking. He showed how the contradiction is so clear and uncomfortable that
something has to give either the use of cigarettes of the belief that smoking will [harm] (Griffin
et al., 2015, p.201). Cognitive dissonance in a nutshell is a contradiction that causes us stress. It
is when we act in ways that go against what we believe and the strong presence we have on the
matter the greater the stress we have. Festinger (2015) describe it the distressing mental state one
feels when one finds themselves doing things that don t fit with what we believe or what the public
approves of (p.200). An extreme example of this is the high one gets from taking drugs but the
disapproval the community might have for it. With dissonance creating a stressful mental state we

December 1942 and formed an alliance with Britain. Adolf Hitler was aware of the threats of
invasion and put Erwin Rommel in charge of defense operations (History.com). In January of 1944,
General Dwight Eisenhower became commander of Operation Overlord. Since Britain and America
were Allies, they used the alliance to deceive the Germans. They made the Germans think they were
attacking Pas de Calais instead, they attacked Normandy. They also made the Germans think that
Norway, as well as other locations, were potential targets (History.com). The Allies used many

sand, benzoic acid, and table salt. From the visual observation of the mixture, it looks like it has a
large amount of benzoic acid crystals compared to the others.

With the magnet they were separated quite easily. When almost boiling the sand, salt and benzoic
acid, it didn t seem like I was doing the right things. I could see the remnants of the benzoic acid
