The following paper is a reflection of my York Care Centre resident visitation in which I will
discuss my experiences. Throughout this paper I will be reflecting upon my feelings, thoughts,
learning moments and my abilities both successes and failures to connect with residents and how I

Since I heard, we will be going York Care Centre to visit the residents, my heart beat increase, I
was super excited and looking forward to it but at the same time, I was nervous and panicking. It
was the first time for me to visit a nursing home, I had never been to any of the nursing homes. As
our first visitation day comes closer, I started having so many questions to myself such as how
am I going to begin a conversation, what I am going to talk with them, and what I am going to do
when I first meet them. I was frightened and unsure of what to expect, not that I lacked confidence,
or I had never been to any of the nursing homes and had not dealt with elderly residents but that
what I had heard about nursing homes from other people. I had heard many sad and unpleasant
stories of nursing home residents, therefore, I felt I did not have enough skills to listen, console or
