The Future Of Legal Business
The Future of Legal Business International Law Firms
What does John Doe, managing partner of a typical international law firm headquartered in London,
think at the moment? His partners have asked him to come up with a three year plan to strengthen the
firm s position in its home market and internationally. How to start? Times are tough, clients please
themselves by putting pressure on costs, demand is stagnating, income growth is hardly recognizable,
and profits are coming under pressure. Should he read any of these smart books or articles dealing
with development of legal markets?
Well, looking at his bookshelf leads to immediate depression: Richard Susskind s The End of
Lawyers? , Larry Ribstein s The Death of Big Law , Bruce MacEwen s Growth is Dead , Mitch
Kowalski s Avoiding Extinction , Steven Harper s The Lawyer Bubble , Stephen Mayson s Law Firm
Partnership The Grand Delusion , Laura Empson s Partnerships Will They Survive? ...
What do these books and articles tell him? All of these academics with their catchy book titles are not
entirely helpful. Who has the crystal ball? Ah, Mr. Doe has interviewed many managing partners who
should know what they are talking about, but what is this? The crystal ball contains a dark and gloomy
smoky premonition: The Magic Circle, the colloquial term for the U.K. s leading law firms, is
predicted to disappear within the next decade. This doesn t irritate our John Doe, as his firm does not
belong to this distinguished

Applying Foster s Ideas to: Pride and Prejudice
Chapter 2: Nice to Eat with you: Acts of Communion (the sharing or exchanging of intimate thoughts
and feelings) The essential part to a good family meal in my family is my mom grossing my brother
out by talking about bugs at the dinner table or my sister and I fighting. If that does not happen at the
dinner table it is a dinner not well spent. While it is a different story in Pride and Prejudice written by
Jane Austen, there are severally meals I could have chosen from for this assignment but one that
particularly stood out me was, when Elizabeth the main protagonist character has an uncomfortable

she is marrying Mr.Bingley because he can take care of Jane and bring her as well as her family s

The aim of this paper is to explore and clearly explore how networks and teams can effectively be

project, I have chosen to use Avimax businesses/projects as my case study. This paper (combines

Business Network Setup This organization to be networked has about 600 workers distributed evenly
among six different user departments. Its headquarters is located in Los Angeles, CA, and it has major
offices in Madrid, Spain, Tokyo, Japan, and Sydney, Australia. It doesn t have an effective line of
communication between the user departments and the head office. The aim is to develop a network
system capable of securing and making sure of effective communication between the smaller
companies (owned by larger companies) in different countries and between the different user
departments with the organizations head office. In order to design and build a well secured network,
many factors must be taken into the process of carefully thinking about something. These important
factors of something to think about include such factors as the topology and placement of hosts within
the network, the selection of hardware and software technologies for the network setup, and the
careful setup of each part within the network in order to make sure that an effective system is
developed linking all user departments and smaller companies (owned by larger companies) to the
main office. The main problem that is to be thought about in the course

Haverwood Furniture
The household wood furniture industry is healthy and growing. Total industry sales in 2007 were
estimated to be $31 billion at manufactures prices. Three categories of furniture divide the industry.
First upholstered furniture which makes up 50% of sales, Secondly wood furniture at 40% of the
industry market share which has grown 2.5% in 2007 and is projected another 4% in 2008, this second
category includes dining room and bedroom furniture. Third and last is the other category at 10% this
includes ready to assemble and casual furniture. Haverwood has established themselves as a medium

The biggest challenge that they face as a company is they do not have the room the increase
expenditure by such a vast amount. Currently there is $3,675,000 in promotional dollars allocated as
follows; sales and administration expense (995,000), cooperative advertising programs with retailers
(1,650,000), consumer advertising (562,000) and trade promotion (467,000). adding the $225,000
increase in consumer advertising will not allow the 5% of expected sales for total promo expenditures.
John Bott, the vice president of sales disagreed with the budget allocation and noted that sales
expenses and administration cost were projected to be $65,000 in 2008. This led him to believe that an
additional sales representative would be needed to service company accounts because 50 were being
added. Therefore he estimated this addition would cost at least $70,000 including salary and expenses
in 2008. Bott also stated that That s about $135,000 in additional sales expense that have to be added
to our promotional budget for 2008
My recommendation is that they do not invest the additional $225,000 in consumer advertising.
Considering the additional amount will only be going into magazines which do not provide enough
incentive for a purchase decision from the buyer. I believe that Haverwood should allocate the amount
50/50 and invest half

Chapter Analysis Of Tea Cake By Zora Neale
Tea Cake s beating of Janie early in chapter 17 is one of the most confusing incidents in the novel. We
read that Janie is hardly effected by this so we begin to question why. Her character finally had
developed a voice and she shows it by accepting the beating, saying that she is strong enough to
handle him and will only speak when she chooses to. In previous chapters we watched as Jody played
god, and now we see this trait in Tea Cake. The storm, however, is thought to be simple and safe by
Tea Cake, when in reality it is a force to be reckoned with. The chapter in which Tea Cake, Janie, and
Motor Boat wait out the storm is the most direct example of this conflict. Here we see humans against
god, Janie and her friends against nature. The

Information System of Walmart
Walmart is a billion dollar retailing machine. Through the decades, Walmart has combined many
different types of information systems in to their day to day operations. Walmart is known around the
world for their continuous improvements and implementation of new information systems to remain
on top of the retail industry. The information systems used by Walmart play a major role in their
continued success. With their use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Walmart is able to send
and receive instantaneous data to their networks. This is why Walmart has been able to remain
competitively priced and control their inventories. This paper will show how Walmart has used many
different information systems during the course of its history to manage both capital and human
resources.
History
In the late 1940s, a man named Sam Walton was franchising Ben Franklin s store located in Newport,
Arkansas. As a retailer, Walton continuously was in search of suppliers with best deals on
merchandise. Usually, if a retailer was able to get a deal from a wholesaler they would leave their
store prices at the regular price and pocket the excess money. Being the innovator he was, Walton
decided to pass the savings on to the consumer and make his money through the increased volume of
sales. This understanding would become the foundation of Walton s business strategy when he
developed Walmart in 1962.
Walton was known for being a cheap guy, so naturally he saw the value in discount

A Clinical Syndrome
Introduction
Sepsis is a clinical syndrome that arises from inflammatory response to infection. The response from
the host is associated with immune, hormonal, metabolic, bioenergetic and autonomic nervous system
modification. This is associated with an overall catabolic state, excessive adrenergic stimulation, high
catecholamine levels and myocardial depression. This effects are mainly mediated via
cathecholaminergic action and cytokine production (1). β blockers modulate both these pathways.
There are several studies that have shown the benefits of β blockers in sepsis. Animal studies have
shown benefits of β blockers (2,3,4,5). To date there is no published systematic review on the effect of
β blockers in sepsis. We sought to summarize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No language or publication date restriction was imposed. Medline was searched from 1946 and
Embase from 1947. Bibliographies of all selected articles were searched. We also searched the grey
literature via the medical university database. Additional search was done on clinical trial database (7).
Study selection and Data Extraction
Two investigators (CJC SG) and the medical librarian (SP) independently reviewed the identified
abstracts. All potential relevant studies were obtained and critically appraised. We used the following
inclusion criteria 1) diagnosed sepsis or septic shock 2) on β blockers or treated with β blockers during
their ICU admission 3) adult population (age 18 or older). Exclusion criteria were 1) paediatric patient
s 2) animal studies 3) non septic patients. The eligible studies were heterogeneous and therefore did
not permit statistical pooling.
Data Extraction
We (CJC SG) independently reviewed the finalised articles to extract information on the following
characteristic. Year of publication, sample size, study population, heart rate control, mortality rate,
adverse incidence change in metabolic parameters with administration of β blockers. Individual
authors were contacted to clarify overlapping of patients between studies. Authors were also contacted
for data on subgroup analysis.

Advantages of using the social media aspect can attract the attention needed to promote a product or
service intended or drive traffic to the intended website of services. This type of channel has the
ability to bring people together from all over the world as well as allows each person to express their
own opinions and ideas, providing well needed feedback. Disadvantages of this method when not used
properly or failed to promote the communication effectively can cause a permanent damage to the
company s reputation; as this mistake is seen in front of hundreds or thousands of people who also
have direct and easy access of spreading their messages online. This way of communicating can also
be more time consuming as someone has to be constantly checking in to make comments, answer
questions, and reply to feedback.

Dividend per share (DPS) is the total dividends paid out over an entire year (including interim
dividends but not including special dividends) divided by the number of outstanding ordinary shares

much as $6 billion of its common stock over time, as it looked to return capital building up on its
balance sheet to investors. This meant less shares outstanding or in other words lower denominator in
the calculation of Dividends per share thus increasing the overall value of the fraction which meant a
higher amount in Dividends per share. The company suffered the worst performance in its history as

Military Rules of Engagement and the Laws of War
Military Rules of Engagement (ROE) and the Laws of War A civilized society cannot function without
rules, laws, and codes of proper conduct. This statement may seem out of place in the context of
warfighting; however, this is one place where it is most necessary. The fighters, who often act at the
behest of their home nation, must have a code of conduct which allows them to make the correct
decision in a given situation in a combat zone. Rules of Engagement fill this gap for the national
militaries of the civilized world and serve as a soldier s code of conduct in the field. Similar to Rules
of Engagement (ROE) are the Laws of War . The Laws of War were established as an international
agreement. This agreement attempted to curtail the destruction caused by global conflicts such as the
two world wars fought during the twentieth century. The laws of war fall under the Geneva
conventions as well. Each of set of rules can be used as a foundation to create rules of engagement for
a particular mission. It is also important to align rules of engagement with the uniform code of
military justice. This code, referred to as the UCMJ, is used as legal framework for the United States
Military.
Definition
Rules of Engagement for the military, as defined by Encyclopedia Britannica, are:
Military directives meant to describe the circumstances under which ground, naval, and air forces will

Monster Study Stuttering Theory
The Monster Study
Wendell Johnson devised the Monster study in 1939 at the Soldiers and Sailors Orphans Home in
Dayton, Iowa to find the true cause of stuttering, which he and many others suffered from (Reynolds,
2003). The popular theory at the time was that stuttering was a physiological defect, meaning the brain
s signals misfired; however, Johnson believed that stuttering was a learned behavior and could be
unlearned (Reynolds, 2003, n.pag). To see if his hypothesis was correct, Johnson devised an
experiment now known as the Monster Study. Before he could begin he requested the help of one of
his students at the time, Mary Tudor, to carry out the experiment for him. Before the experiment Tudor
and 5 other graduate students ranked twenty six children s speech on a scale of one to five, one being
poor and five being fluent (Reynolds, 2003, n.pag). Based on this the children were separated into four
groups: IA consisted of five children who stuttered, but were told nice things; IB consisted of five
children who stuttered and were told negative things; IIA consisted of six children who did not stutter
but, were told they did, and, IIB consisted of six children who did not stutter and were told nice things.
Tudor used rehearsed responses such as, you will be able to speak even better than you are speaking
now on students in IA and responses such as Don t ever speak unless you can do it right on children in
IIA (Reynolds, 2003, n.pag.). Even after just two sessions,

An alternative is to use air as the cooling medium but their performance drops in hot weather
conditions. Maximization of overall efficiency is as vital as the cost and availability of water.
Therefore there is a need to integrate the technologies of air cooled and water cooled condensers. This
paper will focus on parallel condensing where steam from the turbine is ducted in parallel to both air
cooled and water cooled condensers. To optimize the parallel condensing capacities of air cooled and
water cooled condensers considering parameters such as ambient temperature, pressure, availability of
water, fan power, pumping costs.

The Final Game Before The Championship
Param Mehta
English 1/2 (3)
Short Story Rough Draft
The final game before the championship. We had been training for a month now and the gruesome
work had finally paid off. We were more than ready to march on the field and take the championship.
We won our league division and if we won the next game we play then we were headed to the national
championship. Our team had never won the championship and we really wanted to win it. In the
locker room before the game our coach emphatically said, You boys play like it is the last game of
your career. Nothing should stop you and when you touch the field I want you to feel like winners.
You see that trophy there, that is our trophy and when we go out on the field we hold our heads high
and we fight to win. We are winners and nothing in this world can stand between us from the trophy.
We were jumping up and down trying to get our blood flowing and when the referees called us on the
field.
Beep. The whistle blows. Our coach pumped us up with a great motivational speech to make us play
the hardest we could. We start shaky, however due to a couple of great saves by our goalkeeper we
were still in the game. At half time it was tied. We stuffed ourselves with oranges before we ran on the
field for the second half. Our team started off very well due to a great speech by our coach and we
gained a monstrous two zero lead. The win looked inevitable, however, our team got way too
confident and we let in two goals and before we knew it

Code Of Hammurabi Essay
Laws play major role in civilizations, without them there would be no boundaries or consequences
that can promise the people safety from dangers. The Code of Hammurabi was written by King
Hammurabi, who began ruling the Babylonian Empire in about 1800 BC. There were 282 laws that
applied to everyone, though application of the laws and punishment differed according to social class.
The purpose of Hammurabi s code was to make the punishment so harsh that the individual who
committed the crime would never think of committing it again, and if a crime does happened the
punishment is arrange to punish the criminal in a manner that they committed the crime. This is why

Laws 209, If a man strike that daughter of a man and bring about a miscarriage, he shall pay ten
shekels of silver for her miscarriage, and 210 If that woman dies, they shall put his daughter to death,
are great examples how the code not only protects women but also the not born yet. Also, law 132, If a
man strike his father, they shall cut off his hand, shows how important loyalty was within the families.
Gender equality is a major theme that is reveal throughout Hammuria s code. For example law 128
states, If a man take a wife and do not draw up a contract with her, that women is not a wife, showing
if there isn t an agreement between the husband and wife there is no marriage therefore a woman isn t
forced into a marriage without getting something in return. Also, there are many laws involving how a
cheated spouse of either party is punished.
Lastly, Hammurabi s code has a largely number of laws protecting the citizens with an eye for eye
punishment. Laws such as 198, If he destroy the eye of a common man or break a bone of a common
man, he shall pay one mana of silver, provide evidence that even the high class were punish for their

Game Over By John Dicosiglio
Video games or online games are played everyday by a vast majority of teens in the United States. It is
estimated that in 2008 approximately 70 90% of teens reportedly play these games. Many individuals
believe that video games offer a learning experience like no other. However, video games distract
from learning and actually negatively affect the minds of teen players, therefore, playing video or
online games is indisputably harmful to adolescents intellectual and social development. To begin,
many teens have begun ditching their textbooks to get to a controller. Although many adults believe
this is just part of growing up, this actually has a negative outcome on students performance in school.

2.2.2 Antescofo
Antescofo is a score following system that enables to code interactions between the instrumental parts
and the computer generated parts by providing a proprietary programming language [Giavitto, Cont
and Echeveste, 2015]. Antescofo stands for anticipatory synchronization and control of interactive
parameters in computer music, and its core is a score following system based on Hidden Markov
Models (HMM) with some variants to be able to model time changes which are one of the major
drawbacks of the HMM algorithm.
The Antescofo score following core performs tracking of audio events and triggers some customized
actions written in a text based programming descriptor. In Antescofo, the text based representation of
computer generated events follows a Score Language design pattern, which has a long tradition in
computer music since the debut of Mathews MUSIC N languages in the late 60 s [ Mathews, Miller,
Moore, Pierce, and Risset, 1969 ], but Antescofo extends the concept to a reactive language, meaning
that customized actions responds to events. The current Antescofo public version runs as a patch
extension of Max/Msp (or PureData).
Antescofo is an event based customizable score following, accordingly its most important
programming entities in Antescofo language are events and actions [Giavitto, Cont and Echeveste,
2015]. Figure 6 shows a sample code in Antescofo language with events and actions. Events

Essay on Reasons Why French Left Vietman in 1954
Reasons Why French Left Vietman in 1954
In 1939, Vietnam was part of a French indo china. This area was Laous, Cambodia and Vietnam. This
area was all part of the French empire in the 19th century. The French colonial rule was barely resisted
by the people of Vietnam but this harsh rule led to growing anti colonial feeling. Working conditions
in factories were very poor. Peasant farmers struggled with high taxes and the use of forced labour
because public works projects did little to help. Very few Vietnamese people could rise to positions of
importance in the colonial government. In 1885, the emperor of ... Show more content on

They created a famine which took away an estimate of two million lives.
The only resistance to this Japanese rule was the Vietminh. The aim of this organisation was to
establish an independent and free Vietnam that was not under control of any foreign power. This
meant a fight against the French and the Japanese. This rule was formed by Ho Chi Minh in 1941.
Throughout the war, they attacked the French. Support grew in 1942 and 1943 but by 1944, they were
strong enough to attack the two French out posts.
In 1945, the Japanese finally over threw the French government and started to control the towns,
leaving country areas alone. This allowed the communists to build up support in those areas. Quite
soon afterwards, they defeated the Japanese and the war was over. After dropping atomic bombs on
Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the people of Vietnam planned an uprising. In September 1945, the
Vietnamese went to Haiphong. Ho Chi Minh declared independence. In October 1946, the French
forced the communists out of the south and took over Haiphong in the north. Then the indo Chinese
war began and the French started to control some of the important cities and

Persuasive Water Crisis
Summer is just around the corner, and with it will come the usual high temperatures and sweaty
afternoons. It s this time of year that you find yourself using a bit more water than normal, whether to
wash off or rehydrate. And few things are more enjoyable than coming inside on a stifling summer
afternoon to drink a cool glass of water before heading to the shower to freshen up. That said, few
things are more discouraging than filling up your glass of water to see not a crystal clear liquid float
up to the brim but instead what looks like a discolored puddle pouring into your cup, maybe with bits
of unidentifiable particles haphazardly swimming about. This image is neither appealing to your
parched tongue nor your in need of a shower body. It s pretty evident that something is wrong with
your water supply, and that it s been contaminated somehow or another. But what happened? If you

It essentially means that there is no valve to control the flow of water from the city s public water
supply and your own, allowing for contamination of both systems. There are two specific types of this
undesirable problem backpressure and backsiphonage. Backpressure problems are caused when the
downstream pressure is greater than the upstream or supply pressure from the public water system;
this scenario occurs from either an increase in downstream pressure, a decrease in water supply
pressure, or a combination of the two. Backsiphonage is, as you have probably figured out, just the
opposite of backpressure that is, it arises from negative pressure in the public water system.
Backsiphonage typically occurs when there is a notable stoppage of water supply to other systems due
to a fire hydrant being in use or a break in the water main. Without getting too technical, the long and
short of this is that neither of these are good news for the sanitation of your water

The Reform Era Of The Twentieth Century
In the history of the United States, working men and women have attempted to survive the social,
political, economic, and social changes from the eighteenth through the twenty first centuries. In order
to ensure their survival, these working people chose from a range possibilities to organize and
strengthen within the restrictions and opportunities of political, structural, and cultural situations. This
paper will prove that throughout the Antebellum period, the long nineteenth century, the reform era of
the twentieth century and up through present day, the United States working people have been
responsible for both their successes and failures in their organizing attempts, but during contrasting
eras, other entities such as the government, employers, and the economy have been responsible for the
successes and failures of the organization workers. In looking at the historiography of United States
Labor History, it is clear that the methodology in explaining the workers attempts to organize shifts
over time, much like who was responsible for the successes and failures of labor organization. Labor
Historian John R. Commons was perhaps the pioneer of writing the history of labor and its
unionization. Commons writes from the perspective of progressivism and has written that the wage
earner, as a distinct class, has been gradually, even violently, separating himself from the farmer, the
merchant and the employer and coming to feel that his standing and progress in society

Yamamoto, Commander in chief of the Japanese Combined Fleet The Revolution We Have Been
Given Fresh off the defeat of World War II, the Japanese people did not know what to expect from
their American conquerors in the postwar era. Some people praised the American occupation, claiming
that it was the opportunity Japan needed to turn over a new leaf. When America finally took control of
the reconstruction of Japan, they already had a plan. The main goal of the American occupation was to
tame the imperialistic spirit of Japan, that came from military heros like the late Isoroku Yamamoto.
To do this, America would have to alter the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
SCAP, viewed educational reform as another way to decentralize Japan (McClain 548). In the fall of
1946 SCAP placed a full report before a Japanese commission (McClain 548). As result, jurisdiction
over the school system shifted from the Ministry of Education to elected prefectural school boards.
These school board were given the power to select teachers, decide texts, and set the curriculum
(McClain 549). The prewar multi track school system was traded in for an American style single track
school system (McClain 549). The American school system included six years of elementary school,
three years of junior high school, three years of high school, and four year colleges (McClain 549).
Alongside the structural alterations, SCAP officials addressed the educational philosophy.
Subsequently, in 1947 the Japanese government introduced the Fundamental Law of Education, which
declared, that the primary goal of the educational system was to esteem individual dignity and
endeavor to bring up people who love truth and peace (McClain 549). As SCAP was rebuilding the
educational system, the committee was empowering the Japanese women. In 1945, when SCAP
entered Japan they quickly gave women the right to vote, own property, attain higher education, and
enter the government and even join the police (LaFeber 266). From 1945 to 1946, Lieutenant Ethel

The Glorious Revolution in England of 1688
The Glorious Revolution in England of 1688 James II succession to the throne of England came
without protest of any kind. James II was the son of Charles I and younger brother to Charles II. In
January of 1649, Charles I, King of England, went on trial and was convicted as a Tyrant, Traitor,
Murderer, and public enemy to the good people of this nation. (Cannon, pg. 385) On 7 February 1649,
Charles II was proclaimed King of Great Britain. While Charles II was in office, he began to develop a
form of government that existed without the parliament. In 1685, when Charles II brother, James II,
took over, James continued with the trend in government that his brother set into action. From the
Restoration of Charles II in 1660 to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, the Glorious Revolution earned the name the Bloodless Revolution. This was the first
revolution where a king was dismounted without any bloodshed (Israel, pg. 432 40). As the Glorious
Revolution ended, England was forced into an immediate conflict with Louis XIV of France. James II,
a Catholic king, had been disposed of, and a Protestant king, William, husband of Mary, James s
daughter, had taken over. Louis and James were able to get along but William and Louis were not.
They began a war over what is now present day Belgium. Belgium was a key place for fortresses and
harbors (Kissinger, pg.71). Though the revolution itself may have been bloodless, it caused much
unrest in England. Old stresses between the King and Parliament, Church and Dissent, appeared to be
undiminished and were joined by bitter divisions over the succession of William III and Mary II. This
involved rebellion and war in Ireland and Scotland, and plots, riots, and insurrection in England
(Hoppit, pg. 2). It is very doubtful whether many of the revolutionaries of 1688 foresaw the
consequences of their actions in terms of England s relations with foreign powers. Before the
revolution, England was largely pro French and anti Dutch. After 1688, France was to become more or
less a permanent enemy. The Nine Years War was actually a war spawned from the Glorious
Revolution between England and France (Morgan, pg. 353 56). After James II was relieved of

French Broom Essay
In California today, there are a lot of plants and animals populating the region. The Environmental
Protection Agency states French broom (Genista monspessulana) is an invasive shrub from Europe
now abundant in California (EPA). Though French broom does not sound imposing, the problems it
has caused are copious. If French broom is not stopped at an early stage, it can grow rapidly and have
drastic effects. Today, the effects are becoming more and more unmanageable because it is deleterious
to the environment and other species. All of these reasons can make the issue of French broom quite a
pressing one, especially now more than ever.

Although it may not seem so extreme, it may actually be the cause of the extinction of plants and
animals in the surrounding ecosystem. In fact, humans are contributing to this problem by planting it
for its colorful appearance. Due to these startling effects, the French broom snafu must be solved.
There are many reasons why this is an issue that is threatening others. Firstly, French broom kills off
other plants and animals, which is the reason that a great deal of species are dying. French broom also
sucks out all the nutrients from the soil, which is harmful for other species of plants that are struggling
to grow. However, French broom is a threat not just to plants and animals, but to humans as well. For
instance, it can cause wildfires by overcrowding and drying out the area. These invasive plants can
also affect the climate of certain areas, which is a factor causing global warming and temperature

Political Beliefs Of Mahatma Gandhi And Dalai Mama
Political leaders have come to power in a variety of ways. Mahatma Gandhi and Dalai Lama are two
major leaders that had their own religious beliefs, had interesting life experiences, and had many
struggles throughout their lives. Mahatma Gandhi and Dalai Lama have their own similarities and
differences. Such as they both fought in a nonviolent way.
Gandhi was a political leader who had changed in many ways. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was
known as Mahatma which means the great soul. Gandhi was born in a privileged caste, who received
an education. Gandhi was unhappy throughout his college years. He had found kindred spirits and
wanted to study different religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Christianity. In 1893 he had
accepted a year s contract work for an Indian firm in Natal, South Africa. Gandhi had experienced
racial segregation during his time in natal. Gandhi had then returned to India in 1916 to practice a non
violent civil disobedience. According to http://www.history.co.uk/biographies/mahatma gandhi it says,
He also encouraged oppressed villagers to improve their own circumstances, leading peaceful strikes
and protests. This shows that Gandhi wanted his people to learn and take action as well. By 1921
Gandhi was leading the Indian national Congress. On March 12, 1930 the leader began to march to the
sea in protest of the Britain Salt Act, which prohibited Indians from collecting and selling salt. Gandhi
found a simple non violent way on breaking the british

Times are tough, clients please themselves by putting pressure on costs, demand is stagnating, income growth is hardly recognizable, and profits are coming under pressure. Should he read any of these smart books or articles dealing with development of legal markets? Well, looking at his bookshelf leads to immediate depression: Richard Susskind s The End of Lawyers? , Larry Ribstein s The Death of Big Law , Bruce MacEwen s Growth is Dead , Mitch Kowalski s Avoiding Extinction , Steven Harper s The Lawyer Bubble , Stephen Mayson s Law Firm Partnership The Grand Delusion , Laura Empson s Partnerships Will They Survive? ... What do these books and articles tell him? All of these academics with their catchy book titles are not entirely helpful. Who has the crystal ball? Ah, Mr. Doe has interviewed many managing partners who should know what they are talking about, but what is this? The crystal ball contains a dark and gloomy smoky premonition: The Magic Circle, the colloquial term for the U.K. s leading law firms, is predicted to disappear within the next decade. Through the decades, Walmart has combined many different types of information systems in to their day to day operations. Walmart is known around the world for their continuous improvements and implementation of new information systems to remain on top of the retail industry. The information systems used by Walmart play a major role in their continued success. With their use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Walmart is able to send and receive instantaneous data to their networks. This is why Walmart has been able to remain competitively priced and control their inventories. This paper will show how Walmart has used many different information systems during the course of its history to manage both capital and human resources. History In the late 1940s, a man named Sam Walton was franchising Ben Franklin s store located in Newport, Arkansas. As a retailer, Walton continuously was in search of suppliers with best deals on merchandise. Usually, if a retailer was able to get a deal from a wholesaler they would leave their store prices at the regular price and pocket the excess money. Being the innovator he was, Walton decided to pass the savings on to the consumer and make his money through the increased volume of sales. This understanding would become the foundation of Walton s business strategy when he developed Walmart in 1962. Walton was known for being a cheap guy, so naturally he saw the value in discount ... • 15. Military Rules of Engagement and the Laws of War Military Rules of Engagement (ROE) and the Laws of War A civilized society cannot function without rules, laws, and codes of proper conduct. This statement may seem out of place in the context of warfighting; however, this is one place where it is most necessary. The fighters, who often act at the behest of their home nation, must have a code of conduct which allows them to make the correct decision in a given situation in a combat zone. Rules of Engagement fill this gap for the national militaries of the civilized world and serve as a soldier s code of conduct in the field. Similar to Rules of Engagement (ROE) are the Laws of War . The Laws of War were established as an international agreement. This agreement attempted to curtail the destruction caused by global conflicts such as the two world wars fought during the twentieth century. The laws of war fall under the Geneva conventions as well. Each of set of rules can be used as a foundation to create rules of engagement for a particular mission. It is also important to align rules of engagement with the uniform code of military justice. This code, referred to as the UCMJ, is used as legal framework for the United States Military. Monster Study Stuttering Theory The Monster Study Wendell Johnson devised the Monster study in 1939 at the Soldiers and Sailors Orphans Home in Dayton, Iowa to find the true cause of stuttering, which he and many others suffered from (Reynolds, 2003). The popular theory at the time was that stuttering was a physiological defect, meaning the brain s signals misfired; however, Johnson believed that stuttering was a learned behavior and could be unlearned (Reynolds, 2003, n.pag). To see if his hypothesis was correct, Johnson devised an experiment now known as the Monster Study. Before he could begin he requested the help of one of his students at the time, Mary Tudor, to carry out the experiment for him. Before the experiment Tudor and 5 other graduate students ranked twenty six children s speech on a scale of one to five, one being poor and five being fluent (Reynolds, 2003, n.pag). Based on this the children were separated into four groups: IA consisted of five children who stuttered, but were told nice things; IB consisted of five children who stuttered and were told negative things; IIA consisted of six children who did not stutter but, were told they did, and, IIB consisted of six children who did not stutter and were told nice things. This rule was formed by Ho Chi Minh in 1941. Throughout the war, they attacked the French. Support grew in 1942 and 1943 but by 1944, they were strong enough to attack the two French out posts. In 1945, the Japanese finally over threw the French government and started to control the towns, leaving country areas alone. This allowed the communists to build up support in those areas. Quite soon afterwards, they defeated the Japanese and the war was over. After dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the people of Vietnam planned an uprising. In September 1945, the Vietnamese went to Haiphong. Ho Chi Minh declared independence. In October 1946, the French forced the communists out of the south and took over Haiphong in the north. Then the indo Chinese war began and the French started to control some of the important cities and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Persuasive Water Crisis Summer is just around the corner, and with it will come the usual high temperatures and sweaty afternoons. It s this time of year that you find yourself using a bit more water than normal, whether to wash off or rehydrate. And few things are more enjoyable than coming inside on a stifling summer afternoon to drink a cool glass of water before heading to the shower to freshen up. That said, few things are more discouraging than filling up your glass of water to see not a crystal clear liquid float up to the brim but instead what looks like a discolored puddle pouring into your cup, maybe with bits of unidentifiable particles haphazardly swimming about. This image is neither appealing to your parched tongue nor your in need of a shower body. It essentially means that there is no valve to control the flow of water from the city s public water supply and your own, allowing for contamination of both systems. There are two specific types of this undesirable problem backpressure and backsiphonage. Backpressure problems are caused when the downstream pressure is greater than the upstream or supply pressure from the public water system; this scenario occurs from either an increase in downstream pressure, a decrease in water supply pressure, or a combination of the two. Backsiphonage is, as you have probably figured out, just the opposite of backpressure that is, it arises from negative pressure in the public water system. Backsiphonage typically occurs when there is a notable stoppage of water supply to other systems due to a fire hydrant being in use or a break in the water main. Without getting too technical, the long and short of this is that neither of these are good news for the sanitation of your water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. The Reform Era Of The Twentieth Century In the history of the United States, working men and women have attempted to survive the social, political, economic, and social changes from the eighteenth through the twenty first centuries. In order to ensure their survival, these working people chose from a range possibilities to organize and strengthen within the restrictions and opportunities of political, structural, and cultural situations. This paper will prove that throughout the Antebellum period, the long nineteenth century, the reform era of the twentieth century and up through present day, the United States working people have been responsible for both their successes and failures in their organizing attempts, but during contrasting eras, other entities such as the government, employers, and the economy have been responsible for the successes and failures of the organization workers. In looking at the historiography of United States Labor History, it is clear that the methodology in explaining the workers attempts to organize shifts over time, much like who was responsible for the successes and failures of labor organization. Labor Historian John R. Commons was perhaps the pioneer of writing the history of labor and its unionization. Commons writes from the perspective of progressivism and has written that the wage earner, as a distinct class, has been gradually, even violently, separating himself from the farmer, the merchant and the employer and coming to feel that his standing and progress in society ... As result, jurisdiction over the school system shifted from the Ministry of Education to elected prefectural school boards. These school board were given the power to select teachers, decide texts, and set the curriculum (McClain 549). The prewar multi track school system was traded in for an American style single track school system (McClain 549). The American school system included six years of elementary school, three years of junior high school, three years of high school, and four year colleges (McClain 549). Alongside the structural alterations, SCAP officials addressed the educational philosophy. Subsequently, in 1947 the Japanese government introduced the Fundamental Law of Education, which declared, that the primary goal of the educational system was to esteem individual dignity and endeavor to bring up people who love truth and peace (McClain 549). • 30. The Glorious Revolution in England of 1688 The Glorious Revolution in England of 1688 James II succession to the throne of England came without protest of any kind. James II was the son of Charles I and younger brother to Charles II. In January of 1649, Charles I, King of England, went on trial and was convicted as a Tyrant, Traitor, Murderer, and public enemy to the good people of this nation. (Cannon, pg. 385) On 7 February 1649, Charles II was proclaimed King of Great Britain. While Charles II was in office, he began to develop a form of government that existed without the parliament. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence, the Glorious Revolution earned the name the Bloodless Revolution. This was the first revolution where a king was dismounted without any bloodshed (Israel, pg. 432 40). As the Glorious Revolution ended, England was forced into an immediate conflict with Louis XIV of France. James II, a Catholic king, had been disposed of, and a Protestant king, William, husband of Mary, James s daughter, had taken over. Louis and James were able to get along but William and Louis were not. They began a war over what is now present day Belgium. Belgium was a key place for fortresses and harbors (Kissinger, pg.71). Though the revolution itself may have been bloodless, it caused much unrest in England. Old stresses between the King and Parliament, Church and Dissent, appeared to be undiminished and were joined by bitter divisions over the succession of William III and Mary II. This involved rebellion and war in Ireland and Scotland, and plots, riots, and insurrection in England (Hoppit, pg. 2). It is very doubtful whether many of the revolutionaries of 1688 foresaw the consequences of their actions in terms of England s relations with foreign powers. Before the revolution, England was largely pro French and anti Dutch. After 1688, France was to become more or less a permanent enemy. The Nine Years War was actually a war spawned from the Glorious Revolution between England and France (Morgan, pg. 353 56). After James II was relieved of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
