Obesity Is A Major Issue That Our Country Faces Today
I chose to write about a cartoon from Times Magazine that focuses on Obesity in America by Joe
Heller. Obesity is a major issue that our country faces today. After analyzing this cartoon I
wanted to further my understandings to what it meant. In this article we see that the American
Medical Association (AMA) is a main variable. They stated that moderately overweight people
live longer . That is a bold statement and what I want to know is does having extra body fat
really allow you to live longer? The Journal of the American Medical Association researchers say
that being overweight may lead a longer life. Their conclusion to this comes from detailed
review from over 100 previous published research papers that have joined body weight and
morality. This confirms that obese people (particularly those who are extremely obese) tend to
die earlier than those who are at a healthy weight. Their findings argue that people who are
overweight but are not obese may live longer than people with clinically normal body weight.
This cartoon takes place in a gym, and based on the sign on the wall that says New Year s
Resolution, Weight Loss Class I am guessing that it is taking place in the beginning of the year.
There is only one man in the gym, and he looking back in confusion on a tread mill wondering
where everyone else in the gym has gone. An observation I made was that the gym was messy,
and had water bottles and towels on the floors. There are TVs on every pillar that says

Analysis Of Aldous Huxley s Brave New World
Happiness is a state of mind that most people typically urge themselves to achieve, to somehow
magically land on, what is inexplicable is the dangerous lengths people will sometimes go through
in order to make this a reality. Aldous Huxley attempts to explain the so called steps that are taken
to assure the happiness of a community controlled by a totalitarian government and how this
government creates a false sense of stability in order to manipulate its citizens minds thus creating
this Brave New World. The World State lives by the motto, Community. Identity. Stability. , this
stability being defined as a time in which there is no visible violence, there is a healthy economic
stance and the people are... happy. Its aim is universal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, reveals that when a society, such as the World State,
focuses too much on stability, it derails its people s individuality and freedom and that ultimately
avoiding conflict, risk or change doesn t come free, the cost is individual freedom and it is a
great cost to pay for the simple desire of stability. Huxley s novel takes place in the future, one in
which it is acceptable to condition citizens to maximize the overall efficiency of the entire society
as opposed to the efficiency of the individual. This future s biological engineering reaches an all
time high level; people are no longer born naturally , children are now decanted in bottles and pre
natal conditioning is not only acceptable but necessary as a means to limit human behavior. The
theme of dehumanized life is a central one in the novel, perhaps the most important one, but one
critic argues that although it is evident that this theme dominates the pages of Brave New World,
the characters of this novel prove to be more human like than one might have thought at a first
glace. Peter Edgerly Firchow of the Bucknell University Press argues that:
The characters of Brave New World are not merely made of cardboard and papier mГўchГ©, that

Mass Media And Its Effect On Society
Mass Media are organizations in our society. The medium industries provide information and
entertainment, but mass media also can affect political, social, and cultural institutions.
Mediums such as radio, newspapers, and television all reflect and affect American society.
However, the main one that I am going to discuss is Radio. Radio is more effective in mass
media as compared to the other mediums. The way radio was back then is way different from
what it is in society today, it has changed over time. People believe that radio is one of the dying
mediums, but that s false. Radio has saved plenty of lives through communication. Radio has
been the first device to allow for mass communication. It changed the pace at which information
was exchanged. Radio broadcasts that exist in society today didn t began until after World War
I. Radio was used during the war to communicate. But, the federal government had ordered all
professionals off the air taking control over all stations. Back in 1920, KDKA was licensed as
the nation s first commercial broadcast in the United States. The audience began to expand very
quickly because advertisers began to see how well the broadcast was doing. In addition, seeing
that the audience was expanding they started to think about how they would make money. So, AT
T radio broadcast station (WEAF) became the first paid commercial, they began selling limited
advertisement time to sponsors. This led to success. Radio back then was and still is a

Government And The Government Of Bangladesh
Introduction:
Like many other countries of the world, Bangladesh government has also three organs; and the
three organs are the combination of the government of Bangladesh. These three organs are the
executive, the legislature and the judiciary.
In order to run government, the three organs or branches of government has some relationship
with one another. But the thinking matter of that if the three branches have very close
relationship than there create a disorder of the government and it may be harmful for our
democracy. The government by his only one hand doesn t keep a good concentration of all the
branches, if the three branches has separate power and separate in their all activities ;than they
will do their all action more efficiency and more effectively. When govt. is less people and
confront in activities than the political freedom may be established we think. So, the activities of
government are scatter or decentralized by different persons or department in order to perform
more frequency; so that every department of government has gained the freedom and no
department can overlap their power to other department. In Bangladeshi context, how much
separation of power is established, I wish to work about this.
In Bangladesh, after the started of parliamentary government the principles of the separation of
power didn t effect .Because; the ministries were the members of legislature. The executive and the
legislature were the closely related. But the judiciary is the

The Shakespearian Authorship Controversy Analysis
The Shakespearian Authorship Controversy
By Hyrum Shingleton To be or not to be, is a famous question Shakespeare asked his audience in
the Hamlet over 200 years ago, yet people are still asking To be or not to be Shakespeare? That is
the real question. They are like the foolish man believing he is the wise man, going around
teaching a false doctrine. They believe that their favorite candidate for Shakespeare is, and
always will be Shakespeare. No matter how obvious that there is no way he was ever Shakespeare.
Shakespeare is the real Shakespeare because we have no proof for someone else, why wouldn t they
claim it and two of the four head candidates were dead. Shakespeare is Shakespeare.
The very first thing to notice, is the fact that, yes there isn t much evidence for Shakespeare, but

Nowadays you hear a good, popular song on the radio and you love it. You start listening to all
their music and BOOM, you get hit in the face. The band or artists is getting sued because they
stole the idea from another group or something like that. Same with this, if it really had been
Edward de Vere, why wouldn t he claim the writing of the work, especially after it was published.
He was an important figure, or else we wouldn t have heard of him, especially in the court. He
could have done their equivalent of suing if he had really written all of Shakespeare s plays.
Because of the information gathered from the Money, money, money article on oxfraud.com, I
know Shakespeare was very rich. Ed could have become very rich, like William Shakespeare rich, if
he wanted to just put his names on the papers, if he actually had written them. Not just that, but
we wouldn t have even heard of William Shakespeare if Ed had claimed Shakespeare s plays, we
would only be studying Edward. And best of all, you wouldn t have had to spend your valuable

In The Heat Of The Night Analysis
In this paper, I will be explaining my thoughts on the Cavell arguments on classical and modernist
films about movies black and white in comparison to the movies in color, with the reference to
Sunset Boulevard (1950) and In the Heat of the Night (1967).
Cavell beliefs in movies black and white is that you pay attention to the details of the film, which
include the storylines, and the content of what it is in the frame, while movies in color can be
distracting; it is considered appealing and attractive, but it can take away from the subject matter of
the story. Cavell s states film has been moving into the modernist environment inhabited for
generations by the other major arts (Cavell 60); he continues to say that each arts among, had ...

Take for example the in the movie Sunset Boulevard (1950); the Norma Desmond s character
(Gloria Swanson), was portrayed a very rich woman who starred in a lot of silent movies back in
her adult life. Upon showing the inside view of her mansion, it was lacking the essence of
opulence one would expect, due to the movie being in black and white; the descriptions of her
wealth and possessions made by William Holden s character (Joe Gills) in my perspective did
not do as much justice as it would have been if it was screened in color. Even though, traditional
movies move with times (Cavell 61), the same can be achieved in movies in color; take for
example the movie secret garden (1949), this movie started off with gloomy and similar effect
as the Sunset Boulevard (1950); however, at the end color was thrown in to lay emphasis on
what the main idea of the movie was about the (garden). Gardens are expected to be beautiful and
make one feel at ease; my observation between both movies is that one is dark and was meant to
end that way in the mystery which it did, while the other started off pained and ended in joy
because the garden technically coming to life in full

The Pride And Joy Of The Family
They ve always called me superstitious, even mad. They ve always called the happening a
coincedence. But I know better and so does Uncle Van, if he is still alive. It occured late at night.
Not a particularly blustery, terrifying, or paralyzing night. On the contrary, it was rather ordinary,
with a light dusting of snow on the pavement. After a round of holiday excursions, an uneventful
evening with just the family(such as it was) was quite welcome, though others might have called it
depressing. We were all gathered around the fire, on the last night of the old year. Julie, the
veritable pride and joy of the family, was there, and so were my father and mother, little Ross,
and a small army of aunts, uncles, and cousins. And then of course, there was Uncle Van. Uncle
Van was semi legendary in the family. Nobody knew much about him. Why he had shown up at
all was a mystery in itself. He looked quite young, but he was old. No one knew how old. His hair
was graying only at the edges, and he step was brisk and lively. His age was only betrayed in his
old, old, eyes. Uncle Van possessed a certain genius for storytelling. I confess that I had spent
many of the previous weeks making eyes at Julie, who had come to stay for the holidays. But for
hours, Uncle Van had held us under a spell, and we sat as wide eyed and open mouthed as any naive
babe and listened to the tales of myth, mystery, and magic that he told us. Even to this day, I

No Heroes, No Villains By Steven Phillips
In the short book of No Heroes, No Villains by Steven Phillips On June 28, 1972, a Transit
Authority patrolman, John Skagen, was on his way home from testifying at court for an arrest
he made a couple of weeks prior. Skagen was taking the train home to the Bronx when he saw
and stopped James Richardson who was awaiting the subway train which would take him to
work at Lincoln Hospital. Skagen ordered him to put up your hands, and get against the wall .
Skagen s actions seem unprovoked and unnecessary. After a short tussle the two men exchanged
shots and Richardson fled the scene on foot. Two other officers that were on the main street
above the subway station rushed to the scene. As they approached the entrance of the station,
Richardson who was fleeing the scene ran directly into one of the officers. One of the officer
noticed Richardson was shot and attempted to stop Richardson. The other officer continued down
into the subway and witnesses Skagen holding his gun and pointing it towards him, the officer
emptied his gun into Skagen who was able to let off one round prior to the officer shooting him.
Richardson was later apprehended and taken to the emergency room for his wounds. His gun was
also retrieved. Skagen was rushed to the same hospital emergency room where he was pronounced
dead. Richardson confessed to shooting Skagen and revealed that there were only four rounds
exchanged between the two men. Skagen s autopsy revealed that he had been shot five times and

Social Mobility Of Poor Kids Should Depend On College...
Social Mobility of Poor Kids Should depend on College Education Andrew Simmons, author of the
article The Danger of Telling Poor Kids That College is the Key to Social Mobility, argues that
educators have utilized one tool in the toolbox to inspire minority students into believing that their
upward social mobilityis dependent on four years of college education. These educators only
considered the difference in earning power of college graduates versus high schoolgraduates to
buttress their argument. With so much emphasis on going to college, Simmons also contends that
the educators miss the boat and end up causing harm to the poor students. There is no denying that
poor students start from disadvantaged position compared to their white counterparts in high
school, their career parts seem to via in two different directions. Many of the poor students
gravitate towards the liberal arts colleges while the privileged kids dream of medical or law
schools and becoming future doctors and lawyers. Simmons offers the study conducted by Jean
Anyon as another example of how schools teaching poor students from low income families
emphasize keeping students busy and managing behavior, while a middle class school
deemphasizes individual expression and in depth analysis and reward the dutiful completion of
specific rote tasks. Because the educators have stressed so much on attending college, thirty two
percent of students end up with a major they never intended to, or

Banning Smoking On Ohio University s Campus
Banning Smoking on Ohio University s Campus
Ohio University president, Roderick McDavis stated that We will join more than 1,000 campuses
nationwide who ban the use of tobacco on their campuses, (Lee). Banning smoking will help make
the campus area healthy by encouraging the smokers to quit smoking, Ohio University decided to
ban smoking on any campus property. The University campus will begin the Smoke and Tobacco
Free Initiative policy in August 2015. The policy will impose by using a community model (Hill,
2015). This means that each member at Ohio University will be responsible for endorsing the
policy. Moreover, Ohio University hopes the campus becomes healthier without tobacco. This
policy will affect many on Ohio University s campus. However, the ban on smoking will be
ineffective for many reasons.
First, according to a Tobacco Free Initiative flyer, in order to ban tobacco, smokers should be
given the opportunity to be warned, given advice, or asked if they are interested in tobacco or
not. When the Smoke and Tobacco Free Initiative policy is enacted, the smokers may pull
themselves from that habit without any force. However, this may be rare and therefore may not
be a success. The policy states, Students and staff will be encouraged to remind anyone seen
smoking on campus about the policy (Hill, 2015), however application of this is simple not
practical. For example, I am not a smoker, but I am too shy, like many of my peers, to approach a

The Stonewall Riots Essay examples
Life for most homosexuals during the first half of the Twentieth century was one of hiding, being
ever so careful to not give away their true feelings and predilections. Although the 1920s saw a brief
moment of openness in American society, that was quickly destroyed with the progress of the Cold
War, and by default, that of McCarthyism. The homosexuals of the 50s felt the heavy weight of
medical prejudice, police harassment and church condemnation ... [and] were not able to challenge
these authorities. They were constantly battered, both physically and emotionally, by the society
that surrounded them. The very mention or rumor of one s homosexualitycould lead to the loss of

The founders greatly admired Martin Luther King s nonviolent methods in forcing integration and
attempted to emulate those principles in their struggle. The problem was not in their efforts, or
intentions, but the fact that their society was politically weak, garnering little support among the
homosexuals of that era. As the civil unrest of the 1960s continued to grow, with more radical and
leftist movements emerging, the Mattachine Society was viewed as traditional, conservative, and
unwilling to literally fight for the rights of their people. It was not uncommon for the New York
Police Department Morals Task Force to raid gay bars. In fact, during the two decades leading up
to the Stonewall Riots, the raids were more commonplace than naught. Many have speculated as to
why the raids were common some saying it was because of the Italian Mafia s involvement in
owning those establishments, and consequently forgetting to bribe the local police; others
believe it to be based in bias, hatred, and ignorance of people different from oneself. In the
Stonewall Inn s specific case, it could have been a combination of both. The Inn, which was
owned by the Mafia, was actually a bottle club, meaning they did not own a liquor license. You
had to be a member to drink there. While these various theories are most likely true, as far as
ancillary causes, the fact remains that there was an

How Did The Dust Bowl Affect The Economy
There was dust everywhere, covering everything. People and animals falling over dead left and
right. No one can breathe, and are all suffocating from the great amounts of dust particles in the
air. Imagine an immense cloud of dust appearing sporadically and being so overtaking all there is
to do is sit and wait for the storm to terminate. The Dust Bowleffected the economy, the people, and
the geographical region of the Great Plainsnegatively. The Dust Bowl will forever go down in
history as one of the most catastrophic disasters to take place in the Great Plains. Many events
occurred before the years of the Dust Bowl began. The farmers plowed up all of the ground to
grow cash crops (Marrin 58). The plowing of the soil left no grass to hold down the topsoil,
leaving it vulnerable for wind erosion. In 1930, the people of the Great Plains had the biggest
shortage of water in the history. Seventeen million people were affected (Worster 11). In the
early 1930 s, the temperatures went higher than they ever had before (Marrin 52). By 1932, most
people had reached their breaking point. Before the dust storms began, there was a cutworm
plague, a grasshopper plague, and a rabbit plague (Reis 51 and 52). Between all of the natural
problems occurring, the land and people were both exhausted. They had no idea... Show more

The Production Of Animal Products For Human Consumption
The production of animal products for human consumption contributes over 14.5 towards global
greenhouse gas emissions, and is one of the biggest factors of climate change . Most consumers of
meat and dairy are uninformed of this fact, as they believe that transportation and the burning of
fossil fuels are the leading contributors towards global warming, and not the production of foods
that they consume on a daily basis and in large quantities. However, the consumers are not the only
ones to blame; in America, large meat and dairy corporations as well as the government are two
forces that heavily advertise and influence the consumption of animalproducts. In fact, companies

To change their diets of meat and dairy, people have to understand and adopt growth mindsets.
When people have a growth mindset, they believe that intelligence and talent are developed
rather than fixed . People who have growth mindsets are more open towards challenges, and
make efforts to learn. The same can be applied to changing one s diet to consume less meat and
dairy. People with growth mindsets are open towards new experiences. Consequently, they will be
more willing to switch their diets to include less meats and dairies. At the same people, people who
are less likely to change their diets, 62% of Americans , can learn to adopt a growth mindset,
through understanding oneself, learning from experiences, and seeing things from different
perspectives and challenging oneself to take action . After adopting a growth mindset, people can
use positive psychology techniques to challenge themselves to consume less animal products. For
people to understand the reason why they need to consume less meat and dairy products, they
have to apply the concept of PERMA, the model of well being. They need to identify that their
well being is greater when eating less animal products and explain it using aspects of PERMA. For
example, consumers who have made an active change in their lives to change their diets can explain
their reasoning with experiencing more Positive Emotion they receive

Significance Of Tattoos
Origin of tattoos
Many people all over the world have been marking their bodies for thousands of years. The word
tattoo may have two meanings; a verb or a noun, whereby as a verb it means the act of marking
the skin with indelible ink whereas tattoo as a noun refers to the picture or a pattern made. A
person who puts tattoos is called a tattoo artist, tattooist or a tattoer and the shop where he operates
is called tattoo parlor/shop.
The word tattoo is said to be a loanword from Polynesians (Tahitians) which had various spellings
such as tatu, tattow, ta tu, tatao which means to mark something. It is believed that this word was
brought to England during Captain Cook s voyages from Tahiti where he got introduced to tattoos.

identified. While in Rome, people who became criminals would be marked or tattooed so that
they could be easily picked from the rest of the people and the same would be done to slaves. In
Western Asia, mainly among the people of Ainu; the use of tattoos was a way of showing ones
status in the society for example girls and married women would easily be distinguished.
The Japanese also embraced use of tattoos especially on criminals where there was a certain mark
for the first offense which was a line on the criminal s forehead. They would then put an arch for

Criminalization of Cyberbullying
As the effects of cyber bullying are becoming a growing problem, the criminalization of cyber
bullying is needed to prevent its harmful repercussions to the United States and serve as a
deterrent. Cyber bullying has become the 21st century version of bullying; it has extended
beyond the classroom and onto a virtual world that seems to have no real life effects. The world is
now able to bully someone in the comfort of his or her own home, at any given point, with the use
of technology. However, Cyber bullyingstill proves to have lasting impacts on the victimand it is

Threats of violence should also be reported to the police. Try to save all messages as evidence
(Hardcastle). Criminalization would give victims a method to stop the bullying. The issue is
here but not acknowledged as a problem deserving of consequence. If the law enforcement
agencies see that the society is focusing on the cyber bullying as a problem rather than just an
issue they would act upon it in a mannerly order to put a stop to it or prevent it from occurring on
a daily basis. However, by choosing to criminalize cyber bullying victims will be provided with a
way to stop the bullies from harassing them.
Cyber bullying laws are being created to make this destructive activity illegal. Threats are not
protected speech. Thus, cyber bullying isn t protected by the first amendment as freedom of
speech. Cyber bullying deprives people of their rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
According to research in as of June 2011, thirty states have passed bullying laws where cyber
bullying was included. Studies show that cyber bullying has influenced 50% of US teenagers.
Schools and organizations are required to create a bullying policy including cyber bullying, as long
as it is reported. Clear repercussions must be outlined. Schools require direction from the state
legislatures and education departments to draft policies that will hold up in court.
Although there isn t a specific target when it comes to cyber bullying, it tends to

prominences like heels and elbows
4. Assess all areas of the skin to look for pressure ulcers and pay close attention to foot care
5. Keep the patient warm
Rationale:
1. Capillary refill and pulses will give a good indication of the kind of perfusion the patient is
experiencing. By checking these on the tips of the fingers and toes, the nurse will ensure proper
assessment. Prolonged capillary refill or absence of pulses can indicate a serious problem and may
result in tissue ischemia
2. Oxygen saturation has a great deal to do with tissue perfusion. The less oxygen rich blood that is
able to circulate throughout the body, the less perfusion is going on and the greater the risk for
ischemia.
3. Pressure ulcers are a problem for anyone who is not mobile on a regular basis. With decreased
tissue perfusion, the patient is at an even greater risk for tissue breakdown. Repositioning will
ensure that no spot on

Determinism And Its Effects On Life Paths
In this world our race, location, family, and social class are already predetermined. We do not get
to choose the position we are born into. Since we live in a world where most of our choices are
made for us, some of us are luckier than others. Some people are born to better circumstances in
life paths because of luckier predestined factors and qualities afforded to them. Because of the
status in which we are born into, the journey we set ourselves on in life is a preconceived path
that can be very cumbersome to deviate from. The path may be hard to digress from, but it is still
possible for humans to determine their own outcomes and life paths, because we have free willand
free will allows us to do this. Determinismis the belief that our lives are already decided and set in
motion, and that we can change our actions but are unable to change our destiny that is already
set forth. However, free will is the ability to make our own decisions and set our own paths in
life. Similar to the belief that we decide how we end up and what we do in life, some Christians
believe God gives us free will but he also has our ending fate already set in stone. This
perspective definitely conveys contradictions, because it states that we as people have control
over something that is already out of our control. As a spiritual individual, compared to that of
being religious, I believe we as people are put onto a set path based on social constructions that are
created by society.

Abortion And Its Effects On Society
Abortion in Society
The modern world today is brought together by many different cultures, beliefs, thoughts,
opinions and morals. Which makes life difficult at times and causes people to not get along when
differences can not be set aside. There are many issues and topics that are the root of these
problems, which may never be solved and more than likely will never be solved based on
characteristics of cultures and beliefs. Abortion is a very diverse topic in today s society for which
there may never be a correct answer to live up to everyone s morals, but both sides present
persuasive facts and opinions to justify their beliefs. Recent data found in a Pew Research Center
Poll shows the support for abortion is as high as it has been ... Show more content on

In the United Kingdom provocative images of the fetus generated by four dimensional
ultrasonography have fuelled a reassessment of fetal capabilities along with suggestions that the
fetus can respond both emotionally and cognitively. Subsequent political and media discussion in
the United Kingdom has debated changing abortion laws and procedures to mitigate against fetal
pain (DerbyShire). This could impact the choices of many tremendously, if society would ever talk
about abortion in a civilized manner even though it is very hard to discuss, many lives could be
saved.
A lot of people believe that more than half of abortions are because of teens. Whether they are too
immature or they are not using contraceptives. Although sometimes that is true, although most
abortions are not because of teen pregnancies. According to Jeff Jones, minors accounted for only
about forty percent of abortions and these happened without their parents or guardians ever
knowing. Point three percent of abortions in 2013 were by fifteen year olds and younger (Jones).
While teens are a very small portion of abortions adults are the vast majority. Unmarried women in
2013 held responsible for 85.2% of all abortions (Jones). Which could argue that they are the ones
being more irresponsible than minors. Then twenty fiver perfect of abortions were because the
mothers were not ready for a child (Jones). Which makes adults sound more immature because

Effects Of Social Media On Mental Health
Effects of social media on mental health Overview Social media is described, by the Merriam
Webster dictionary (2015), as forms of electronic communication (as Web sites for social
networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share
information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (as videos) . As few as 10 years ago
the term social media was yet to be coined, but within that decade the use of these blogs,
websites and sharing platforms has increased exponentially with no plateau in sight. From
creating Instagram accounts for household pets, to sharing Halloween themed baking ideas over
Pinterest, people today have access to social media outlets for almost everything. Today about
74% of people ages 18 65 use some form of a social networking site (Pew, 2014). Facebook takes
the lead in social media usage with about 71% of those adults. LinkedIn and Pinterest are tied for
second at 28% of users, 26% use Instagram, and Twitter falls last in the top 5 most used social
medias with 23% of users (Pew, 2014). In September of 2013 the Pew Research Center measured
that 90% of adults ages 18 29 used these social media outlets on a daily basis, which is an
astonishing increase from the 9% that was measured in February 2005 (Pew, 2014). Due to the fact
that young adults are increasingly involving themselves in these online platforms, it is very
important to understand the long term and psychological effects (such as depression, social anxiety,

Unintended Consequences Of China s One Child Policy
The Unintended Consequences of China s OCP The freedom that Americans have to raise their
children according to their beliefs starkly contradicts the one child policy implemented in China.
The one child policy was a program designed to restrict Chinese families to only one child, with
severe consequences lined up for those who disobeyed. It was met with harsh opposition, from
Chinese citizens as well as from other countries. The policy succeeded in creating smaller families,
but it unleashed a slew of unintended consequences, including a higher crime rate and an increase
in the elderly population, who only have one child to support them. Most significantly, the policy
caused a national gendercide and an influx of Chinese bachelors, indirectly causing an increase in
sextrafficking in and around the country. Did the one child policyachieve its intended effect, or did
it cause many more inadvertent effects that it could not control? The one child policy was
implemented in 1979 by the Chinese government (The Economist 3). Its original goal was to
restrain the population growth from its expected goal of 1.4 billion to a maximum of 1.2 billion
by the end of the century (Kane and Choi 992). The policy was created with little regard to the
potential demographic or societal changes, but rather was a political and economic measure to
control the abnormally high population growth (Feng et al. 84). China s population was rapidly
growing, but there was a severe shortage of natural

Personal Statement On Massage Green Spa
Three days before I voluntarily resigned my position from Massage Green Spa, there was an
incident that took place, which resulted in my lack of trust from the organization. When I was
working for Massage Green Spa, I usually was one of the therapists that close on Sunday nights.
Forty five minutes prior to closing, I did not have a massagescheduled, so I decided to clean the
bathrooms in preparation for closing. Halfway through the cleaning, I was interrupted by the
receptionist to notify me that we had a last minute walk inn. I expressed my frustration that the
client will only have time for twenty five minutes and I am not prepared to massage someone
after just handling cleaning chemicals. I stopped what I was doing and went up front to explain
to the client that I cannot do a full body massage in twenty five minutes. The male client express
that he did not care and that he would leave a nasty yelp review. I took the client back to the
massage room and told him to lay face down under the sheets. When I entered the room to start the
massage, the man was laying naked face up on top of the sheets. As I was getting him covered
with a blanket, I stressed to him that he needs to remain covered and draped. Once I started the
session, he made an attempt to grab and touch me inappropriately. I told him that the session is now
over; this behavior is not okay at this establishment. I left the room and stormed upfront to tell the
receptionist what had just happened. I immediately

Grignard Reaction Process Of Phhenylmagenisum Bomide
DISCUSSION The aim of this experiment was to effectively carry out a Grignard reaction process
that uses Grignard reagent to synthesize alcohol and creates a new carbon carbon bond within the
reaction. In this experiment, phenylmagenisum bromide is the Grignard reagent reacted with
benzaldehyde to synthesize the final product, diphenylmethanol (alcohol) close to its 100 %
theoretical yield. Diethyl ethersolvent was used to keep away any water/moisture that could
destroy the Grignard reagent and react to form a hydrocarbon instead of an alcohol. Therefore,
experiment execution need a lot of precision and precautious to make sure that the apparatus used
/reused as well as the reaction itself is dry and away from water or moisture. There... Show more

This part of the experiment was carried out by mixture of 1.5 mL benzaldehyde in 4 mL dry
diethyl ether solution into the formed Grignard reagent dropwise through the Claisen adaptor of
the glassware setup apparatus. These small droplets created a vigorous fizzing within the
reaction mixture and color change to light pinkish/reddish and very bad/strong smell was
observed. These vigorous fizzing in the reaction meant that the magnesium alkoxide salt has
been formed when the nucleophilic phenylmagenisum bromide reagent attacks the carbonyl
benzaldehyde (electrophile). This mixture was allowed to cool down for few minutes and 5 mL
of cool water was added to mixture along with dropwise of 6 mL of 20% HCl through Claisen
adaptor. This created change the color of the mixture as well as created two homogenous layers
a white layer on top and yellowish green layer on the bottom of round bottom flask. This layered
mixture was transferred and further separated into the separator funnel to separate the aqueous
layer and the ether layer by shaking the mixture which helped to protonate the alkoxide salt and
started to form the alcohol product. The aqueous clear layer (bottom layer) was removed since it
is the denser layer while less dense ether layer was washed with water and saturated sodium
bisulphite solution. This part is crucial as use of sodium bisulphite was done to wash out all the
acid from ether layer so that there is

Stress In George Orwell s Shooting An Elephant And The...
Throughout time, the authors of the world have experienced different forms of stresses. The type
of stress experienced by the author helps shape their moral perspective. In the essays Shooting an
Elephant and The Next War, the authors moral perspectives are shaped by the economic stress of
the great depression. In Graves in Gallipoli and The Little Entente the moral perspective of the
authors is shaped by the stress created by the Great War. The stress created by the Great
Depression and the Great War shaped authors moral perspectives in different ways.
The main moral idea represented in the essay Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell is how people
do things that they know are wrong but do anyways because that is what is expected of them.
The author, George Orwell, was born in 1903, and the essay was written in 1936. Some major
global events that occured during George s life before he wrote this essay are the Great War and
the Great Depression. During this time men had been forced to kill each other in the trenches

Dopamine Model Essay
The Dopamine Model (DM) has been around since the twentieth century (Preston, O Neal and
Talaga, 2017). The model believes that the cause of schizophrenia symptoms is from abnormal
dopamine in the brain (Preston, et al., 2017). The premise is based off two observations. The first
one is that antipsychotic drugs are able to bind and block the dopaminereceptors (Preston, O Neal,
et al., 2017). The second observation is that the antipsychoticdrugs increases dopamine which create
paranoid schizophreniasymptoms (Preston, et al., 2017).
The Glutamate Model premise is from the phencyclidine (PCP) drug (Preston, et al., 2017). The
upside of the glutamate model is that the PCP is able to block the glutamate at the N methyl D
asparate signals in the brain (Preston, et al., 2017). PCP increases symptoms that schizophrenia lack
such as, negative thinking, apart and disorganization (Preston, et al., 2017).
Neurodevelopmental/Neurodegenerative Model (NNM) is different from the former two models.
NNM examines the biological factors that are considered abnormal (Preston, et al., 2017). It has
been believed through evidence that schizophrenia is a progressive disorder with this loss of
cognitive use (Preston, et al., 2017). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My Sist Of Ceiling Siblings
Critics have argued that the lack of autonomy of the savior sibling has led to the child being
harmed. It is not until the age of eighteen that the child is no longer considered a minor, and
therefore, able to make independent medical decisions. However, because of the rigor of
unwarranted medical treatments, there have been arguments about the morality of allowing
parents to be in full control of the medical decisions for a child whose purpose is keeping alive an
ailing sibling. Does the parents conflict of interest make making rational decisions impossible on
their part? Or simply, their focus is the sick child so everything revolves around that.

Hospitals And Integrated Delivery Networks
Hospitals and Integrated Delivery Networks
NEED A TITLE

?2016. FedEx. All rights reserved.
Introduction
While adapting and complying with costly changes in regulations as well as increases in operating
costs, hospitals have managed to remain profitable. This is due primarily through Medicare,
Medicaid, and private insurance reimbursements for services rendered. However, new health care
reform initiatives reduce percentage of these reimbursements, especially for hospital inpatient
services. Less reimbursements coupled with costly phased rolled out regulatory requirements is
forcing some hospitals out of business.
To stay afloat, hospital executives are looking at the second largest expense after labor; supply
chain management. Executives are examining their business models and recognizing the need to
scrutinize supply chain management practices, which represents nearly half of its operating
expense. Relying on Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs) and third party providers (3PLs) to
negotiate contracts with suppliers to manage supply chain order fulfillment and transportation.
This white paper focuses on how hospitals and Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs) can manage
their inbound supply chain to reduce unnecessary costs and increase efficiencies to significantly
improve their profit margins.

Paul Cezanne s Still Life With Bowl Of Curacao Oranges
This essay will discuss the significant similarities and differences between Paul CГ©zanne s work,
Still Life with Pot of Flowers and Pears painted in 1880 90 and Louise Moillon s work, Still Life
with Bowl of Curaçao Oranges painted in 1634.
Although both painters were born in France, they were painting during time periods. Moillon was
born in 1609 in Paris and was painting during the Baroque era, which encompassed intense shadow
and rich colours (Harrison, 2010). Cezanne was born in 1839 in Aix en Providence and was
paining in the Post Impressionism era, which included thick applications of paint and had a more
expressive effect (Harrison, 2010). Both works are created with oil paint, however, Cezanne has
chosen to paint his work on canvas, whereas Moillon s work is displayed on panel. Both works are
of similar size, Cezanne s canvas is 46 x 56cm and Moillon s panel is 46 x 65cm. ... Show more

Moillon displays a bowl of Curacao oranges, that originate from the Dutch West Indies, with the
leaves still attached and one single lemon resting on the top (Harrison, 2010). The bowl which
the fruit is in is significant as it was made of porcelain. Porcelain was an expensive import from
China and was often featured in still life painting by French and Dutch artists (Harrison, 2010)
which give the painting a rich and expensive tone. The composition looks formal and posed and
the lighting in the painting is dramatic and creates harsh shadows which gives a more realistic
feel. This painting has a wide tonal range as there are strong contrasts between the lightest and
darkest parts which creates a strong effect. Moillon uses linear brushwork to give a smooth texture
to the painting (Inside Art, 2010) and poses the fruit close to the picture plane which give the

higher percentage of Israeli sources and more Israeli end quotes and personalized Israeli deaths

Australian Lifestyles And Living Conditions
Australian s lifestyles and living conditions can largely be effect by the levels of unemployment
and employment. A labour market is a place in which employees and workers interact with each
other, in this situation the employers will seek to hire the best workers, who aim to complete a
job to the standards set by those employing them. Labour markets can be developed by three
basic conditions, these are, stronger market conditions, weaker market conditions and ideal
market conditions. If there is increased demand for labour by firms and large business, the
market conditions will getting stronger. This can be seen through unemployment rates, of which
is Australia is currently around 5.7 percent and gradually decreasing. This relatively low figure
displays the need for workers with an expanding number of job opportunities along with a
decrease in monthly hours worked. With more people bring in a steady income the living
conditions of these workers will increase, however one could argue that this will also put those
who are struggling to find work further behind. In future, it is predicted that employment will
continue to increase by almost 8,000 to 11,939,600 workers along with the small increase in
unemployment due to retirements. This will lead to improved living conditions for the majority of
Australians. The number of workers for businesses will increase allowing them to expand the
operations to cover a larger area. Participation rates is a measure of the active portion of

Body Image By Jamie Santa Cruz
Society follows a norm that requires a general agreement between groups in order to function as
a whole. Human beings are social group animals (Lessing 1) and need each other to survive with
the intention to get along or fit in. These desires to conform influence our idea about ourselves
(Lessing 1) and people lose a sense of their inner self based on these insecurities. The false
concept of ideal beauty of body image is displayed in the media and it pressures young women
and men to accept this particular notion of beauty. The role of the media comes into play because
it pressures individuals to give in, since they appeal to our need, which is to be accepted. Although,
people oppose to media pressuring individuals to conform, it is clear... Show more content on

In Body Image Pressure Increasingly Affect Boys, Jamie Santa Cruz shows that the media harms
boys and girls in similar ways. Cruz discusses that boys who were highly concerned with their
weight, about half were worried about gaining more muscles...major difference between boys and
girls when it comes to weight concern: whereas girls typically want to be thinner, boys are as likely
to feel pressure to gain weight as to lose it (1). This displays that boys feel obligated to look a
certain way like having a 6 pack or looking physically fit due to the influence of media. Similarly,
women want to lose weight because being skinny is considered to be attractive. Cruz shows that
most action figures have a significant proportion of muscles which displays the improbable
body image they set up for young boys (3 4) because of this, boys are falling prey to a distorted
image of themselves and their physical inadequacies (3 4). It is presenting men in a way that is
unnatural, like how girls and their bodies are advertised. We assume that this is how men should
appear and we judge them based on the illusions that the media has created. Cruz displays that
steroids is associated with depression, range attacks, suicidal tendencies, and cardiomyopathies (4).
He asserts that boys are pressured to look what is considered as healthy in society. This shows how
the media is harmful to boys because they can use other alternatives, such as

Secondary Data
Tips for Collecting, Reviewing, and Analyzing Secondary Data
WHAT IS SECONDARY DATA REVIEW AND ANALYSIS?
Secondary data analysis can be literally defined as second hand analysis. It is the analysis of data
or information that was either gathered by someone else (e.g., researchers, institutions, other
NGOs, etc.) or for some other purpose than the one currently being considered, or often a
combination of the two (Cnossen 1997).
If secondary research and data analysis is undertaken with care and diligence, it can provide a cost
effective way of gaining a broader understanding of specific phenomena and/or conducting
preliminary needs assessments.
Secondary data are also helpful in designing subsequent primary research and, as ... Show more

not only what is happing in a particular area but also why it is happening (which will be discussed
in greater detail on page 6 of this document).
SOURCES OF SECONDARY DATA
Official Statistics: Official statistics are statistics collected by governments and their various
agencies, bureaus, and departments. These statistics can be useful to researchers because they are
an easily obtainable and comprehensive source of information that usually covers long periods of
time.
However, because official statistics are often characterized by unreliability, data gaps, over
aggregation, inaccuracies, mutual inconsistencies, and lack of timely reporting (Gill 1993), it is
important to critically analyze official statistics for accuracy and validity. There are several reasons
why these problems exist:
1. The scale of official surveys generally requires large numbers of enumerators (interviewers) and,
in order to reach those numbers enumerators contracted are often under skilled;
2. The size of the survey area and research team usually prohibits adequate supervision of
enumerators and the research process; and
3. Resource limitations (human and technical) often

The Importance of Physical Education in American Schools
Review
Hommes, Tiffany J., Bemidji State University, USA
Background Many children in America do not receive the needed amount of physical activity
needed to maintain a healthy weight. Approximately17% of children are obese (Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation, 2016) and 1 in 3 children are overweight or obese (American Heart
Association, 2016). This is a local and national emergency that needs to be addressed to keep
children healthy, prevent morbidities, and control the costs that are associated with being
overweight or obese. Pre diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension in children is at an all time
high. However, research indicates that only 3.8 percent of American elementary schools provide
daily physical education (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2007). This paper will discuss the
importance of daily physical education in our schools. There is an abundance of support to
provide daily physical education in our schools. First Lady Michelle Obama (2010) stated that she
will lead a national initiative to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic. In her initiative, she
mentioned the intervention of increasing physical activity to change this epidemic (Obama, 2010).
In fact, Healthy People 2020 has objectives to increase the portion of the America s private and
public schools that require daily physical education U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services (2011). There is also a national

Human Resource Function Should Align With An Organization...
Human Resource function should align with an organizations strategic goals because
successfully reaching the goal will require employees that are capable of completing the work.
Since one of the functions of HR is to recruit, screen and on board employees they must be
knowledgeable of the organizations goals in order to properly identify qualified candidates.
Working closely with other managers to identify key skills needed for the job is important as well,
Successful organizations combine the experience of line managers with the expertise of HR
managers to develop and utilize the talents of employees to their greatest potential. (Snell, Morris,
Bohlander, 2016, sec. 1.6 para. 3). By being well versed in the organizations goals a human resource
managementteam can impact the overall success of the organization. The integration of qualified
candidates into a company can accelerate the company s timeline for meeting goals and in turn save
the company money and resources. Human resource managements knowledge of the company s
goals will aid its efforts in securing human assets for the company.
Current global conditions in Maersk s industry will require human resource management to look
for employees who can grow and travel with the company. As the use of outsourcing continues to
grow the demand for a reliable shipping company will also continue to increase. With business

* Flowers and blossoms: Undoubtedly the largest source of aromatics. Includes the flowers of
several species of rose and jasmine, as well as osmanthus, plumeria, mimosa, tuberose, narcissus,
scented geranium, cassie, ambrette as well as the blossoms of citrus and ylang ylang trees.
Although not traditionally thought of as a flower, the unopened flower buds of the clove are also
commonly used. Most orchid flowers are not commercially used to produce essential oils or
absolutes, except in the case of vanilla, an orchid, which must be pollinated first and made into
seed pods before use in perfumery. * Fruits: Fresh fruits such as apples, strawberries, cherries
unfortunately do not yield the expected odors when extracted; if such fragrance notes are found in a
perfume, they are synthetic. Notable exceptions include litsea cubeba, vanilla, and juniper berry.
The most commonly used fruits yield their aromatics from the rind; they include citrus such as
oranges, lemons, and limes. Although grapefruit rind is still used for aromatics, more and more
commercially used grapefruit aromatics are artificially synthesized since the natural aromatic
contains sulfur and its degradation product is quite unpleasant in smell. * Leaves and twigs:
Commonly used for perfumery are lavender leaf, patchouli, sage, violets, rosemary, and citrus
leaves. Sometimes leaves are valued for the green

How Does Alison Bechdel Use Allusions In Fun Home
In the creatively illustrated novel Fun Home by Alison Bechdel has many references to different
works of literature that are used to explain and relate to her experiences throughout the novel. It
seems to be that the main character Alison and her family would rather live in a world of literature
than their current world. Alison uses multiple allusions of different literatures in her novel, the
reason she uses all of these literary references is to explain to us that the people in her life
including herself do not want to be in their world. The noticeable uses of literature in the novel are
the chapters which are all names taken from different works of literature. Authors such as James
Joyce, Albert Camus, Henry James, along with myths such... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

An example of this is when she tells us that she feels as if her father Bruce cares more about little
things in his life more than his family, like the house renovations. Alison even says I grew to
resent the way my father treated his furniture like children, and his children like furniture
(Bechdel, p.14) to describe to us how she thinks her father is viewing her family, as if they are all
just apart of the house. Alison also likes to compare people and places in her life to things in
literature. Alison relates her father to many different characters, such as the novel The Great Gatsby
by Scott Fitzgerald, due to Bruce s love for the character Gatsby. Alison even tells us that he has
started to act and even looks like Gatsby (Bechdel, p.g.64). Alison also describes her
surroundings in the view of literary places. The Chapter The Canary Colored Caravan is also a
literary reference to Kenneth Grahame s The Wind In The Willows a book her and her father
used to read. Alison s setting of her hometown called Beech Creek is somewhat similar to The
Wild Woods in Grahame s novel. Along with how the animals never leave there, much like Bruce.
So the author is almost literally describing her town in the form of a different world, a place that
she might wish to

Essay On Texas Political Culture
Over the years up until the 1990 s, Texas politics were dominated by the Democratic Party. It is not
until later that the Republican Party grew into publicity and became prominent. This happened after
the Reconstruction that saw Democratic Party seize to be the dominant electoral party in Texas.
This essay focuses on the political culture and the current political environment and in Texas and
contemporary issues affecting the political status. It also describes the causal effect of policies
enacted on the political stand.
Three philosophical streams constitute the political ideology and culture. These are social
conservatism, populism, and classical liberalism. The three describe the philosophical, political
composition of Texas. Social conservatives support the used of government to foster traditional
social relations. In this regards, they tend to uphold established traditions such as religious beliefs
and established practices. More so, they respect traditional authority figures such as religious,
business and religious leaders. Social conservatism was initially associated with Republican Party
but has gained precedence in the Democratic Party as well.
On the other hand, populism is concerned with the welfare of the people. It embraces the popular
will as the key ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is worth noting that is so as long as the liberties of others are not restricted. It is from this
perspective that the basis for opposition is viable as opposed to the use of government to attain
social objectives. Classical liberalism focuses on private initiatives or the free market to guide
and foster the best outcomes. From history, classical liberalism has fueled support for religious
and civil liberties. Classical liberalism can be rather viewed as an embrace of an individual s right
to do his or her own thing. However, this philosophical aspect has been tempered by the enduring

Rosin Esters Lab Report
ESTERIFICATION OF ROSIN TO MAKE ESTER GUM
Esterification : It is a reaction between alcohols and carboxylic acids to produce esters.
The carboxylic acid group of a rosin acid can be converted to an ester through a reaction with
various alcohols. The alcohols typically used to make rosin esters are given below. The molecular
weight and functionality of the alcohol determines the softening point of the subsequent ester.
Glycerol with three reactive sites is the most commonly used alcohols. Methanol with a single
hydroxyl group and tri ethylene glycol with two reactive sites are used to produce liquid and low
softening point esters.

Lacquer is a wood polish; it is the chemical added to wood to give it the smooth and shiny
properties. Without it, the wood of a piano would be a lot more difficult to work with, shrinking
the lifespan of the common piano by years if not decades. Without lacquer, the piano and other
hammered string instruments may have never become the influential instruments they are today.
WHAT IS LACQUER EXACTLY? Lacquer is a polymer of many different bases that when
coated on a wooden substance, offers a layer of protection and gloss to a piece of wood. The
most common lacquer used on piano frames is a urushiol based lacquer. Urushiol is a common
allergen found in many Anacardiaceae plants such as poison ivy. It has a boiling point of
200Лљ C (392Лљ F) and can dissolve in substances such as alcohol. It is composed of a 6 carbon
ring with 3 double bonds similar to benzene, 2 hydroxyl groups, and an R group. The R group
varies from a large amount of hydrocarbons (such as (CH2)14CH3, (CH2)7CH=CH(CH2)5CH3,
(CH2)7CH=CHCH2CH=CH(CH2)2CH3 and others).

Rise And Fall Of The Aztec Empire
Long before the Aztecs there were people known as the Toltecs who lived and flourished in the
Valley of Mexico. They used geological advantages such as large shallow lakes at its center,
accessible resources, and fertile soil to develop advanced civilizations that controlled much of the
area. The Toltecs built and impressive empire with TollГ
Ўn as the capital, ultimately passing on that
heritage to the Aztecs who considered the Toltecs as a successful civilization. The Aztecs even
claimed that they are descendent from this once powerful civilization.

The Aztecs used two calendars to calculate time. Since gods ruled specific periods of time, it was
important to know which gods controlled the day. During the time they ruled, offerings were
made to them. (World History Patterns of Interaction) It was extremely important to the Aztecs
to offer to the gods at the right time, so they created a 260 day religious calendar. The second
calendar that the Aztecs created was a 365 day solar calendar to keep track of the days. Once
and every 52 years both cycles started on the same day. The Aztecs also created a sun stone at
Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec s empire. The Aztec calendar stone was 13 feet in
diameter and weighs around 24 tons. In the center of the sun stone is a picture of the sun god.
He is surrounded by symbols of movements and four words: Tiger, Water, Wind and Rain of Fire.
There were 20 panels representing the 20 days that make up each of the 18 months of the
Mesoamerican year. The Mesoamerican year was made up of 360 days and 5 more days that were
seen as unlucky days. The Aztecs also used a valuable trade item called obsidian. Obsidian is a
hard, glassy, green or black rock found in the Valley of Mexico. It was used to make razor sharp
weapons. The Aztecs also used them to make knives for sacrifices. The obsidian knives were used
to cut out the hearts of the sacrificed person. Another

Close Reading Of Jane Eyre
Through a close reading of the selected passage of Charlotte BrontГ« s Jane Eyre: An
Autobiography, a reader can see that Jane attempts to separate herself from her decisions by
personifying her emotions and giving them a specific voice, which strongly reflects the societal
views of the time. At this point in the story, Jane has discovered, on her wedding day, that Mr.
Rochester is still married to a womannamed Bertha, and that woman still lives in his house.
Distraught, Jane locks herself in her room and tries to decide what she should do. When she
wakes up the next day, she is again confronted with what she needs to do in the wake of her
discovery. When Jane awakens, she asks herself what she should do and receives the answer Leave

It instead shows Jane s inner struggle to do what is right versus what she desires. The separation
between the voice of herself and her thoughts exhibits her helplessness to change her path from
what her mind has already decided. This displays the heavy influence society has on Jane, which
is further proven by the personification of Jane s two strongest rivaling emotions. The heavy
influence of a patriarchal dominated society is evident in her Conscience being a strong male
figure, whereas her Passion is a weaker, feminine figure. Similarly, the strongest reasoning for Jane
to leave Thornfield is driven by the patriarchal demand for a female to remain pure until holy
marriage, rather than Jane s own desire to leave, further solidifying the idea that the voice given to
her mind is not just her own internal thoughts, but also the demands and expectations of

The Prelude Response
In this excerpt from The Prelude , Wordsworth s speaker exhibits three major responses to his
experiences in nature. Each response is quite different from the previous and just as if not more
vividly represented. In lines 1 7, the speaker is shown to be quite curious. On that summer
evening, the speaker is led by [nature], almost as if it is enticing him. The speaker, on his little
journey, finds a little boat tied to a willow tree ; the boat invites him to explore nature from a new
point of view on the water. Within this primary response (curiosity), the speaker, after he pushed
from the shore, felt a troubled pleasure ; he is beginning to worry, which foreshadows his fears
later on in the excerpt. This is further suggested when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

it upreared its head . With this fear, the speaker began to attempt escape he struck and struck , the

Prenatal Genetic Testing Essay
Abstract
Prenatal genetic testing is an integral part of prenatal care. It provides pregnant women with
different screening and diagnostic tests so that they can know more about their future baby. There
are certain advantages and disadvantages associated with prenatal genetic testing. Thus, it is
important for expectant parents to consider these tests thoroughly before they decide to take or not
to take them. Key words: prenatal genetic testing, advantages, disadvantages

Some women don t start their prenatal care until the second trimester, so they might be offered
second trimester screening tests for their prenatal genetic screening. Second trimester screening is
normally done at week 15th 22nd of the pregnancy. The tests can correctly detect about 81 % of
fetuses with Down syndrome, about 80 % of fetuses with trisomy 18 and about 80 % of fetuses
with neural tube defects. When results from both first, if available, and second screening combine
together, about 87 % of fetuses with Down syndrome, 90 % with trisomy 18 and 80 % with neural
tube defects can be identified (Intermountain healthcare, 2014).
Thirdly, the prenatal diagnostic tests including amniocentesis and CVS are highly accurate ways
to check for genetic disorders (Intermountain healthcare, 2014). Both tests can confirm with 99 %
of accuracy if a fetus has a genetic disorder. Additionally, CVS can be done early between weeks
10th 13th of pregnancy to help confirm the presence of a genetic disorder. This again gives
expectant parents time to make decisions in regard to whether they should keep or terminate the
pregnancy and how to take care of their future baby with special needs if they decide to continue

Leveraging Computer Technology for Literacy Instruction in...
Computer Based Reading Programs for At Risk Learners Children with disabilities face a variety
of challenges when learning to read. Some students experience processing disorders, some have
auditory or visual deficits, still others have gross or fine motor disabilities. Computer technology is
adept at addressing all of these issues by the nature of its flexible and extensible application. As a
relatively low cost solution for providing specialized instruction, integrating computer technology is
a particularly attractive solution for students with dyslexia and who are at risk for reading disorders
(Torgesen, Wagner, Rashotte, Herron, Lindamood, 2009). Torgesen, et al. (2009) further examined

Computer based reading software is most helpful for students with learning disabilities when it
provides supplemental practice, applies proven reading strategies, and offers immediate and
consistent feedback (Bishop, Edwards Santoro, 2006). With these criteria in mind, computer
assisted instruction is beneficial for at risk students by providing activities that can be
motivational and provide positive reinforcement. By allowing at risk students to work at their
own pace, computer assisted instructional software can provide the additional practice these
students need to help build automaticity (Hook McCabe, 2006). Another use for computer
assisted instruction with exceptional learners is in the area of increasing on task behavior.
Particularly effective for students with ADHD, adding CAI elements to their reading program
has been correlated to an increase in oral fluency and a decrease in off task behavior (Clarfield,
Stoner, 2005). On task behavior is essential for both at risk readers and students with ADHD in
order to absorb the initial skills necessary for acquiring literacy. Generally speaking, primary
instruction in phonemic awareness and the alphabetic principle is not sufficient for many students
to achieve fluency and comprehension (Bishop, Edwards Santoro, 2006). Well designed and
appropriately interactive computer based programs that provide supplemental skill practice can help
keep students with ADHD and other off task behaviors engaged while

Analysis Of Matthew 22 s The Kingdom Of Heaven
Why do you suppose Jesus mentions what this man was wearing? Listen to me, everything that
Jesus says and does in the New Testament is very important! Whatever the garment is that this man
has on is a social faux pas to the celebration that he has been invited to. The rest of the parable is
pretty straightforward as Jesusdescribes the kingdom of heaven, the kingdom of heaven is like...
Remember at the beginning of the parable, we are told that the first group that was invited to the
wedding, refused to attend. When the King heard about it, he was furious, and he sent out his
armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city, Matthew 22:7 8 NKJV. The King then
declared an open invitation to everyone to attend the marriage of his son.
The parable in Matthew 22 is a profound teaching. It shows that the invitation to salvation is the
same as receiving an invitation to the wedding of the Messiah. That is why the garment that the
one man had on was such an irritation to the King. It was not so much what the man was
wearing per se. It was a heart issue! The apostle John tells us the significance of wedding
garments in Revelation 19. And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound
of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings saying: Alleluia! For the Lord God
Omnipotent reigns! Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb
has come, and His wife has made herself ready. And to her it was granted to be

An Example Of Metonymy In The Help By Stockett
The title of the book, The Help, is an example of metonymy. Stockett uses that title to refer to the
black maids who work for the whites. This is particularly about the services they render to white
households, which demonstrates the subordinate role of the black maids. They are valuable only for
the helpthat they offer for the white women, but they are like slaves; they are inferior than others
and they have no rights. This way of behaviour towards the black maids has led to their anger,
frustration and rebellion. One could illustrate the black maid s feelings about their positions in the
society and their triumph over the obstructions around them by analysing the characters. There are
many signs of anger such as attacking, blaming, whining,

Literary Devices In Beowulf
Beowulf through the eyes of Tolkien Trilogies like the Lord of The Rings and the Hobbit have had
great historical and linguistic significance in the literary world, capturing the attention of many.
However, the aesthetic and craft like qualities of these works are at times ignored and not
appreciated enough to create more interest. For a literary giant like J.R.R. Tolkien, his speech of
Beowulfbeing noteworthy the way it is because of its artistic characteristics are only accomplished
by the use of specific rhetorical devices to achieve his point. Taken from his essay Beowulf:The
Monsters and the Critics. presented at the 1936 British Academy Lecture, he first starts off by
presenting the arguments that have been formed about Beowulf and continues to counter argue
them in order to make a stronger and more elaborate point, which is enhanced with his use of
authoritative language. Tolkien also dives deep into written technique that is embedded into
Beowulf, which is accompanied with a artistic like analysis. In the end, Tolkien is successful in
painting a picture to the audience his opinion about Beowulf s artful qualities, because his effective
use of rhetorical strategies throughout creates the poem to be more than a historical epic and piece
of fiction.
In starting his lecture, Tolkien lays out criticism that poem has received about placing more
importance to non literary aspects, and counter argues his own opinion to establish that the artful
qualities it possesses

  • 2. Obesity Is A Major Issue That Our Country Faces Today I chose to write about a cartoon from Times Magazine that focuses on Obesity in America by Joe Heller. Obesity is a major issue that our country faces today. After analyzing this cartoon I wanted to further my understandings to what it meant. In this article we see that the American Medical Association (AMA) is a main variable. They stated that moderately overweight people live longer . That is a bold statement and what I want to know is does having extra body fat really allow you to live longer? The Journal of the American Medical Association researchers say that being overweight may lead a longer life. Their conclusion to this comes from detailed review from over 100 previous published research papers that have joined body weight and morality. This confirms that obese people (particularly those who are extremely obese) tend to die earlier than those who are at a healthy weight. Their findings argue that people who are overweight but are not obese may live longer than people with clinically normal body weight. This cartoon takes place in a gym, and based on the sign on the wall that says New Year s Resolution, Weight Loss Class I am guessing that it is taking place in the beginning of the year. There is only one man in the gym, and he looking back in confusion on a tread mill wondering where everyone else in the gym has gone. An observation I made was that the gym was messy, and had water bottles and towels on the floors. There are TVs on every pillar that says ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Aldous Huxley s Brave New World Happiness is a state of mind that most people typically urge themselves to achieve, to somehow magically land on, what is inexplicable is the dangerous lengths people will sometimes go through in order to make this a reality. Aldous Huxley attempts to explain the so called steps that are taken to assure the happiness of a community controlled by a totalitarian government and how this government creates a false sense of stability in order to manipulate its citizens minds thus creating this Brave New World. The World State lives by the motto, Community. Identity. Stability. , this stability being defined as a time in which there is no visible violence, there is a healthy economic stance and the people are... happy. Its aim is universal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, reveals that when a society, such as the World State, focuses too much on stability, it derails its people s individuality and freedom and that ultimately avoiding conflict, risk or change doesn t come free, the cost is individual freedom and it is a great cost to pay for the simple desire of stability. Huxley s novel takes place in the future, one in which it is acceptable to condition citizens to maximize the overall efficiency of the entire society as opposed to the efficiency of the individual. This future s biological engineering reaches an all time high level; people are no longer born naturally , children are now decanted in bottles and pre natal conditioning is not only acceptable but necessary as a means to limit human behavior. The theme of dehumanized life is a central one in the novel, perhaps the most important one, but one critic argues that although it is evident that this theme dominates the pages of Brave New World, the characters of this novel prove to be more human like than one might have thought at a first glace. Peter Edgerly Firchow of the Bucknell University Press argues that: The characters of Brave New World are not merely made of cardboard and papier mГўchГ©, that they are ... • 4. Mass Media And Its Effect On Society Mass Media are organizations in our society. The medium industries provide information and entertainment, but mass media also can affect political, social, and cultural institutions. Mediums such as radio, newspapers, and television all reflect and affect American society. However, the main one that I am going to discuss is Radio. Radio is more effective in mass media as compared to the other mediums. The way radio was back then is way different from what it is in society today, it has changed over time. People believe that radio is one of the dying mediums, but that s false. Radio has saved plenty of lives through communication. Radio has been the first device to allow for mass communication. It changed the pace at which information was exchanged. Radio broadcasts that exist in society today didn t began until after World War I. Radio was used during the war to communicate. But, the federal government had ordered all professionals off the air taking control over all stations. Back in 1920, KDKA was licensed as the nation s first commercial broadcast in the United States. The audience began to expand very quickly because advertisers began to see how well the broadcast was doing. In addition, seeing that the audience was expanding they started to think about how they would make money. So, AT T radio broadcast station (WEAF) became the first paid commercial, they began selling limited advertisement time to sponsors. This led to success. Radio back then was and still is a ... • 6. Government And The Government Of Bangladesh Introduction: Like many other countries of the world, Bangladesh government has also three organs; and the three organs are the combination of the government of Bangladesh. These three organs are the executive, the legislature and the judiciary. In order to run government, the three organs or branches of government has some relationship with one another. But the thinking matter of that if the three branches have very close relationship than there create a disorder of the government and it may be harmful for our democracy. The government by his only one hand doesn t keep a good concentration of all the branches, if the three branches has separate power and separate in their all activities ;than they will do their all action more efficiency and more effectively. When govt. is less people and confront in activities than the political freedom may be established we think. So, the activities of government are scatter or decentralized by different persons or department in order to perform more frequency; so that every department of government has gained the freedom and no department can overlap their power to other department. In Bangladeshi context, how much separation of power is established, I wish to work about this. In Bangladesh, after the started of parliamentary government the principles of the separation of power didn t effect .Because; the ministries were the members of legislature. The executive and the legislature were the closely related. But the judiciary is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Shakespearian Authorship Controversy Analysis The Shakespearian Authorship Controversy By Hyrum Shingleton To be or not to be, is a famous question Shakespeare asked his audience in the Hamlet over 200 years ago, yet people are still asking To be or not to be Shakespeare? That is the real question. They are like the foolish man believing he is the wise man, going around teaching a false doctrine. They believe that their favorite candidate for Shakespeare is, and always will be Shakespeare. No matter how obvious that there is no way he was ever Shakespeare. Shakespeare is the real Shakespeare because we have no proof for someone else, why wouldn t they claim it and two of the four head candidates were dead. Shakespeare is Shakespeare. The very first thing to notice, is the fact that, yes there isn t much evidence for Shakespeare, but guess what, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nowadays you hear a good, popular song on the radio and you love it. You start listening to all their music and BOOM, you get hit in the face. The band or artists is getting sued because they stole the idea from another group or something like that. Same with this, if it really had been Edward de Vere, why wouldn t he claim the writing of the work, especially after it was published. He was an important figure, or else we wouldn t have heard of him, especially in the court. He could have done their equivalent of suing if he had really written all of Shakespeare s plays. Because of the information gathered from the Money, money, money article on oxfraud.com, I know Shakespeare was very rich. Ed could have become very rich, like William Shakespeare rich, if he wanted to just put his names on the papers, if he actually had written them. Not just that, but we wouldn t have even heard of William Shakespeare if Ed had claimed Shakespeare s plays, we would only be studying Edward. And best of all, you wouldn t have had to spend your valuable time reading this essay, and you don t need to worry, it only gets better from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. In The Heat Of The Night Analysis In this paper, I will be explaining my thoughts on the Cavell arguments on classical and modernist films about movies black and white in comparison to the movies in color, with the reference to Sunset Boulevard (1950) and In the Heat of the Night (1967). Cavell beliefs in movies black and white is that you pay attention to the details of the film, which include the storylines, and the content of what it is in the frame, while movies in color can be distracting; it is considered appealing and attractive, but it can take away from the subject matter of the story. Cavell s states film has been moving into the modernist environment inhabited for generations by the other major arts (Cavell 60); he continues to say that each arts among, had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Take for example the in the movie Sunset Boulevard (1950); the Norma Desmond s character (Gloria Swanson), was portrayed a very rich woman who starred in a lot of silent movies back in her adult life. Upon showing the inside view of her mansion, it was lacking the essence of opulence one would expect, due to the movie being in black and white; the descriptions of her wealth and possessions made by William Holden s character (Joe Gills) in my perspective did not do as much justice as it would have been if it was screened in color. Even though, traditional movies move with times (Cavell 61), the same can be achieved in movies in color; take for example the movie secret garden (1949), this movie started off with gloomy and similar effect as the Sunset Boulevard (1950); however, at the end color was thrown in to lay emphasis on what the main idea of the movie was about the (garden). Gardens are expected to be beautiful and make one feel at ease; my observation between both movies is that one is dark and was meant to end that way in the mystery which it did, while the other started off pained and ended in joy because the garden technically coming to life in full ... • 9. The Pride And Joy Of The Family They ve always called me superstitious, even mad. They ve always called the happening a coincedence. But I know better and so does Uncle Van, if he is still alive. It occured late at night. Not a particularly blustery, terrifying, or paralyzing night. On the contrary, it was rather ordinary, with a light dusting of snow on the pavement. After a round of holiday excursions, an uneventful evening with just the family(such as it was) was quite welcome, though others might have called it depressing. We were all gathered around the fire, on the last night of the old year. Julie, the veritable pride and joy of the family, was there, and so were my father and mother, little Ross, and a small army of aunts, uncles, and cousins. And then of course, there was Uncle Van. Uncle Van was semi legendary in the family. Nobody knew much about him. Why he had shown up at all was a mystery in itself. He looked quite young, but he was old. No one knew how old. His hair was graying only at the edges, and he step was brisk and lively. His age was only betrayed in his old, old, eyes. Uncle Van possessed a certain genius for storytelling. I confess that I had spent many of the previous weeks making eyes at Julie, who had come to stay for the holidays. But for hours, Uncle Van had held us under a spell, and we sat as wide eyed and open mouthed as any naive babe and listened to the tales of myth, mystery, and magic that he told us. Even to this day, I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

No Heroes, No Villains By Steven Phillips In the short book of No Heroes, No Villains by Steven Phillips On June 28, 1972, a Transit Authority patrolman, John Skagen, was on his way home from testifying at court for an arrest he made a couple of weeks prior. Skagen was taking the train home to the Bronx when he saw and stopped James Richardson who was awaiting the subway train which would take him to work at Lincoln Hospital. Skagen ordered him to put up your hands, and get against the wall . Skagen s actions seem unprovoked and unnecessary. After a short tussle the two men exchanged shots and Richardson fled the scene on foot. Two other officers that were on the main street above the subway station rushed to the scene. As they approached the entrance of the station, Richardson who was fleeing the scene ran directly into one of the officers. One of the officer noticed Richardson was shot and attempted to stop Richardson. The other officer continued down into the subway and witnesses Skagen holding his gun and pointing it towards him, the officer emptied his gun into Skagen who was able to let off one round prior to the officer shooting him. Richardson was later apprehended and taken to the emergency room for his wounds. His gun was also retrieved. Skagen was rushed to the same hospital emergency room where he was pronounced dead. Richardson confessed to shooting Skagen and revealed that there were only four rounds exchanged between the two men. Skagen s autopsy revealed that he had been shot five times and ... • 11. Social Mobility Of Poor Kids Should Depend On College... Social Mobility of Poor Kids Should depend on College Education Andrew Simmons, author of the article The Danger of Telling Poor Kids That College is the Key to Social Mobility, argues that educators have utilized one tool in the toolbox to inspire minority students into believing that their upward social mobilityis dependent on four years of college education. These educators only considered the difference in earning power of college graduates versus high schoolgraduates to buttress their argument. With so much emphasis on going to college, Simmons also contends that the educators miss the boat and end up causing harm to the poor students. There is no denying that poor students start from disadvantaged position compared to their white counterparts in high school, their career parts seem to via in two different directions. Many of the poor students gravitate towards the liberal arts colleges while the privileged kids dream of medical or law schools and becoming future doctors and lawyers. Simmons offers the study conducted by Jean Anyon as another example of how schools teaching poor students from low income families emphasize keeping students busy and managing behavior, while a middle class school deemphasizes individual expression and in depth analysis and reward the dutiful completion of specific rote tasks. Because the educators have stressed so much on attending college, thirty two percent of students end up with a major they never intended to, or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Banning smoking will help make the campus area healthy by encouraging the smokers to quit smoking, Ohio University decided to ban smoking on any campus property. The University campus will begin the Smoke and Tobacco Free Initiative policy in August 2015. The policy will impose by using a community model (Hill, 2015). This means that each member at Ohio University will be responsible for endorsing the policy. Moreover, Ohio University hopes the campus becomes healthier without tobacco. This policy will affect many on Ohio University s campus. However, the ban on smoking will be ineffective for many reasons. First, according to a Tobacco Free Initiative flyer, in order to ban tobacco, smokers should be given the opportunity to be warned, given advice, or asked if they are interested in tobacco or not. When the Smoke and Tobacco Free Initiative policy is enacted, the smokers may pull themselves from that habit without any force. However, this may be rare and therefore may not be a success. The policy states, Students and staff will be encouraged to remind anyone seen smoking on campus about the policy (Hill, 2015), however application of this is simple not practical. The founders greatly admired Martin Luther King s nonviolent methods in forcing integration and attempted to emulate those principles in their struggle. The problem was not in their efforts, or intentions, but the fact that their society was politically weak, garnering little support among the homosexuals of that era. As the civil unrest of the 1960s continued to grow, with more radical and leftist movements emerging, the Mattachine Society was viewed as traditional, conservative, and unwilling to literally fight for the rights of their people. It was not uncommon for the New York Police Department Morals Task Force to raid gay bars. In fact, during the two decades leading up to the Stonewall Riots, the raids were more commonplace than naught. Many have speculated as to why the raids were common some saying it was because of the Italian Mafia s involvement in owning those establishments, and consequently forgetting to bribe the local police; others believe it to be based in bias, hatred, and ignorance of people different from oneself. In the Stonewall Inn s specific case, it could have been a combination of both. The Inn, which was owned by the Mafia, was actually a bottle club, meaning they did not own a liquor license. The Dust Bowl will forever go down in history as one of the most catastrophic disasters to take place in the Great Plains. Many events occurred before the years of the Dust Bowl began. • 21. Determinism And Its Effects On Life Paths In this world our race, location, family, and social class are already predetermined. We do not get to choose the position we are born into. Since we live in a world where most of our choices are made for us, some of us are luckier than others. Some people are born to better circumstances in life paths because of luckier predestined factors and qualities afforded to them. Because of the status in which we are born into, the journey we set ourselves on in life is a preconceived path that can be very cumbersome to deviate from. The path may be hard to digress from, but it is still possible for humans to determine their own outcomes and life paths, because we have free willand free will allows us to do this. Determinismis the belief that our lives are already decided and set in motion, and that we can change our actions but are unable to change our destiny that is already set forth. However, free will is the ability to make our own decisions and set our own paths in life. Similar to the belief that we decide how we end up and what we do in life, some Christians believe God gives us free will but he also has our ending fate already set in stone. This perspective definitely conveys contradictions, because it states that we as people have control over something that is already out of our control. As a spiritual individual, compared to that of being religious, I believe we as people are put onto a set path based on social constructions that are created by society. ... As few as 10 years ago the term social media was yet to be coined, but within that decade the use of these blogs, websites and sharing platforms has increased exponentially with no plateau in sight. From creating Instagram accounts for household pets, to sharing Halloween themed baking ideas over Pinterest, people today have access to social media outlets for almost everything. Today about 74% of people ages 18 65 use some form of a social networking site (Pew, 2014). Facebook takes the lead in social media usage with about 71% of those adults. Unintended Consequences Of China s One Child Policy The Unintended Consequences of China s OCP The freedom that Americans have to raise their children according to their beliefs starkly contradicts the one child policy implemented in China. The one child policy was a program designed to restrict Chinese families to only one child, with severe consequences lined up for those who disobeyed. It was met with harsh opposition, from Chinese citizens as well as from other countries. The policy succeeded in creating smaller families, but it unleashed a slew of unintended consequences, including a higher crime rate and an increase in the elderly population, who only have one child to support them. Most significantly, the policy caused a national gendercide and an influx of Chinese bachelors, indirectly causing an increase in sextrafficking in and around the country. Did the one child policyachieve its intended effect, or did it cause many more inadvertent effects that it could not control? The one child policy was implemented in 1979 by the Chinese government (The Economist 3). Its original goal was to restrain the population growth from its expected goal of 1.4 billion to a maximum of 1.2 billion by the end of the century (Kane and Choi 992). These vigorous fizzing in the reaction meant that the magnesium alkoxide salt has been formed when the nucleophilic phenylmagenisum bromide reagent attacks the carbonyl benzaldehyde (electrophile). • 30. Dopamine Model Essay The Dopamine Model (DM) has been around since the twentieth century (Preston, O Neal and Talaga, 2017). The model believes that the cause of schizophrenia symptoms is from abnormal dopamine in the brain (Preston, et al., 2017). The premise is based off two observations. The first one is that antipsychotic drugs are able to bind and block the dopaminereceptors (Preston, O Neal, et al., 2017). The second observation is that the antipsychoticdrugs increases dopamine which create paranoid schizophreniasymptoms (Preston, et al., 2017). The Glutamate Model premise is from the phencyclidine (PCP) drug (Preston, et al., 2017). The upside of the glutamate model is that the PCP is able to block the glutamate at the N methyl D asparate signals in the brain (Preston, et al., 2017). PCP increases symptoms that schizophrenia lack such as, negative thinking, apart and disorganization (Preston, et al., 2017). Neurodevelopmental/Neurodegenerative Model (NNM) is different from the former two models. NNM examines the biological factors that are considered abnormal (Preston, et al., 2017). Introduction While adapting and complying with costly changes in regulations as well as increases in operating costs, hospitals have managed to remain profitable. This is due primarily through Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance reimbursements for services rendered. However, new health care reform initiatives reduce percentage of these reimbursements, especially for hospital inpatient services. Less reimbursements coupled with costly phased rolled out regulatory requirements is forcing some hospitals out of business. To stay afloat, hospital executives are looking at the second largest expense after labor; supply chain management. Executives are examining their business models and recognizing the need to scrutinize supply chain management practices, which represents nearly half of its operating expense. Relying on Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs) and third party providers (3PLs) to negotiate contracts with suppliers to manage supply chain order fulfillment and transportation. A labour market is a place in which employees and workers interact with each other, in this situation the employers will seek to hire the best workers, who aim to complete a job to the standards set by those employing them. Labour markets can be developed by three basic conditions, these are, stronger market conditions, weaker market conditions and ideal market conditions. If there is increased demand for labour by firms and large business, the market conditions will getting stronger. This can be seen through unemployment rates, of which is Australia is currently around 5.7 percent and gradually decreasing. Some women don t start their prenatal care until the second trimester, so they might be offered second trimester screening tests for their prenatal genetic screening. Second trimester screening is normally done at week 15th 22nd of the pregnancy. The tests can correctly detect about 81 % of fetuses with Down syndrome, about 80 % of fetuses with trisomy 18 and about 80 % of fetuses with neural tube defects. When results from both first, if available, and second screening combine together, about 87 % of fetuses with Down syndrome, 90 % with trisomy 18 and 80 % with neural tube defects can be identified (Intermountain healthcare, 2014). Thirdly, the prenatal diagnostic tests including amniocentesis and CVS are highly accurate ways to check for genetic disorders (Intermountain healthcare, 2014). Both tests can confirm with 99 % of accuracy if a fetus has a genetic disorder. Additionally, CVS can be done early between weeks 10th 13th of pregnancy to help confirm the presence of a genetic disorder. This again gives expectant parents time to make decisions in regard to whether they should keep or terminate the pregnancy and how to take care of their future baby with special needs if they decide to continue with the ... • 52. Leveraging Computer Technology for Literacy Instruction in... Computer Based Reading Programs for At Risk Learners Children with disabilities face a variety of challenges when learning to read. Some students experience processing disorders, some have auditory or visual deficits, still others have gross or fine motor disabilities. Computer technology is adept at addressing all of these issues by the nature of its flexible and extensible application. As a relatively low cost solution for providing specialized instruction, integrating computer technology is a particularly attractive solution for students with dyslexia and who are at risk for reading disorders (Torgesen, Wagner, Rashotte, Herron, Lindamood, 2009). Torgesen, et al. (2009) further examined the methodology for implementing CAI in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Computer based reading software is most helpful for students with learning disabilities when it provides supplemental practice, applies proven reading strategies, and offers immediate and consistent feedback (Bishop, Edwards Santoro, 2006). With these criteria in mind, computer assisted instruction is beneficial for at risk students by providing activities that can be motivational and provide positive reinforcement. By allowing at risk students to work at their own pace, computer assisted instructional software can provide the additional practice these students need to help build automaticity (Hook McCabe, 2006). Another use for computer assisted instruction with exceptional learners is in the area of increasing on task behavior. Particularly effective for students with ADHD, adding CAI elements to their reading program has been correlated to an increase in oral fluency and a decrease in off task behavior (Clarfield, Stoner, 2005). On task behavior is essential for both at risk readers and students with ADHD in order to absorb the initial skills necessary for acquiring literacy. Generally speaking, primary instruction in phonemic awareness and the alphabetic principle is not sufficient for many students to achieve fluency and comprehension (Bishop, Edwards Santoro, 2006). Well designed and appropriately interactive computer based programs that provide supplemental skill practice can help keep students with ADHD and other off task behaviors engaged while ... • 53. Analysis Of Matthew 22 s The Kingdom Of Heaven Why do you suppose Jesus mentions what this man was wearing? Listen to me, everything that Jesus says and does in the New Testament is very important! Whatever the garment is that this man has on is a social faux pas to the celebration that he has been invited to. The rest of the parable is pretty straightforward as Jesusdescribes the kingdom of heaven, the kingdom of heaven is like... Remember at the beginning of the parable, we are told that the first group that was invited to the wedding, refused to attend. When the King heard about it, he was furious, and he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city, Matthew 22:7 8 NKJV. The King then declared an open invitation to everyone to attend the marriage of his son. The parable in Matthew 22 is a profound teaching. It shows that the invitation to salvation is the same as receiving an invitation to the wedding of the Messiah. That is why the garment that the one man had on was such an irritation to the King. It was not so much what the man was wearing per se. It was a heart issue! The apostle John tells us the significance of wedding garments in Revelation 19. And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings saying: Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns! Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready. And to her it was granted to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. An Example Of Metonymy In The Help By Stockett The title of the book, The Help, is an example of metonymy. Stockett uses that title to refer to the black maids who work for the whites. This is particularly about the services they render to white households, which demonstrates the subordinate role of the black maids. They are valuable only for the helpthat they offer for the white women, but they are like slaves; they are inferior than others and they have no rights. This way of behaviour towards the black maids has led to their anger, frustration and rebellion. One could illustrate the black maid s feelings about their positions in the society and their triumph over the obstructions around them by analysing the characters. There are many signs of anger such as attacking, blaming, whining, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Literary Devices In Beowulf Beowulf through the eyes of Tolkien Trilogies like the Lord of The Rings and the Hobbit have had great historical and linguistic significance in the literary world, capturing the attention of many. However, the aesthetic and craft like qualities of these works are at times ignored and not appreciated enough to create more interest. For a literary giant like J.R.R. Tolkien, his speech of Beowulfbeing noteworthy the way it is because of its artistic characteristics are only accomplished by the use of specific rhetorical devices to achieve his point. Taken from his essay Beowulf:The Monsters and the Critics. presented at the 1936 British Academy Lecture, he first starts off by presenting the arguments that have been formed about Beowulf and continues to counter argue them in order to make a stronger and more elaborate point, which is enhanced with his use of authoritative language. Tolkien also dives deep into written technique that is embedded into Beowulf, which is accompanied with a artistic like analysis. In the end, Tolkien is successful in painting a picture to the audience his opinion about Beowulf s artful qualities, because his effective use of rhetorical strategies throughout creates the poem to be more than a historical epic and piece of fiction. In starting his lecture, Tolkien lays out criticism that poem has received about placing more importance to non literary aspects, and counter argues his own opinion to establish that the artful qualities it possesses ...
