LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like
Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems

2. Constitutional Basis For Public Health Action
Module 2: The Constitutional and Legal Basis for Public Health Action
Government and population are two characteristics that differentiate public health law from other
laws. In public health law, government is the actor, legislature, congress, city council, city
commissions, meaning that only government can take away or violate individual rights in certain
circumstances. Second characteristic of public health law, population or group of people who share
similar characteristics.
The essential services of public health are prevention and welfare of the public s health.
The important concept in the constitutional basis for public health action is protect the community
and rebalance that against the need of individual rights. States take responsibility and authority to
provide public health and public safety: inspection and regulation of commercial and residential
facilities; restaurant, hotel, motel, or swimming pool inspection; regulating drinking water. They do

rights are appropriately balances against public health or community benefit. In this case the court

3. 401 K Retirement Plan Essay
Retirement plan has its advantage and disadvantage. Mostly it is based on the choice of the
participant. It is the right of the member whether to choose it or decline. The 401 k retirement
plan builds on the retirement plan sounds likes to replace for pension, but not. The 401 k plan
should not necessary for all employees because it is beneficial based on age and employment
history and no beneficiary is allowed.
The 401 k plan is useful based on the age and age of employment history. It is right to choice this
plan for the people those are at the age of 45 or more. It is not okay for the people the age of me.
It is not beneficial for me because the company where I am recently working I am not going to
spend my lifetime there. Once I changed my job and withdrew the money from the plan, I have to
pay a huge penalty. I have personal experience with the 401 k retirement plan since I have attended

The plan I know like life insurance even some saving plan allows the beneficiaries. Since the
beneficiaries are not allowed so, nobody should be permitted to make a claim if something

I died then nobody from my families are permitted to make a claim. If none of my family shouldn
t take advantage of my saving then why to this kind of saving. Instead of this plan, it is better to
buy stock or bond where at least we are provided with beneficiaries.
Though this is the big project, does not allow any beneficiaries means the program looks like
profitable organization. Maybe this based on active team concerning the average life expectancy
of American people or either based on the death rate of people date at the age between 40 to 50
years. Thus, this program has its own profitable business, but it s in the opinion of the participant

The source Limits on Risks for Healthy Volunteers in Biomedical Research states that the Yellow

argument because it shows that there are necessary risks in order to make good progress. Even
though the some of the volunteers died from Yellow Fever, it allowed scientists to find the vector

as a showing of the inherent risk of biomedical testing, while anti restriction people use it as a

Functionalism was the prevailing branch of western Human science until the 1960s since when it
has been progressively reprimanded by sociologists favoring distinctive sociological points of
view. Functionalists contend that social orders comprise of between related social foundations,
for example, schools, broad communications, political frameworks, the Congregation and the
family each of which contribute emphatically to the support of soundness of society in general.
That is: these establishments are said to be useful for social orders all in all. Extensively talking
it is accepted by functionalists that social orders work in light of a legitimate concern for the
greater part of their individuals with the goal that there is no purpose behind key clash in the
public eye. Rather there is a high level of accord that social orders are composed proficiently and
moderately decently. The primary Functionalist scholars of the family are G P Murdock and Talcott
Parsons. Murdock contended on the premise of his studies that the atomic family was an all
inclusive social establishment and that it existed generally in light of the fact that it satisfied four
essential capacities for society : the sexual, conceptive, monetary and instruction capacities. Other

6. The Conseption Of Powingder In The Movie Powder And You Re...
Xenophobia came from the Greek word xenos which means a foreigner. According to
Healthtopia, Xenophobia is the condition where the person feels threatened and terror when
confronted by a person with a different background. The movie Powder and You Re Not Alone are
example of why we are afraid of strangers. Not all strangers are bad people. Some strangers you
have to look out for and others could be really good people.
Powder is an albino teenage boy who is very intelligent and was shunned after the death of his last
relative. People started judging and criticizing powder, not even knowing who he was, what he
looked like, or the type of person he was. The special abilities that he had made him an outcast. In
the readings it says, The stranger in town becomes shrouded with suspension. Every action is
scrutinized. Every inaction is a sign of guilt. The writer s argument is, don t judge a book by its
cover.
After the death of one of his grandparents, he is discovered and sent to state home where he has
trouble fitting in. His unusual appearance and abilities caused the people in the town to mock
and fear him. Sheriff Barnum s wife, Emma is sick and in a coma and sheriff is unsure of what
he should to help her. Jessie asks Powder to pay Emma a visit to see if he could help. He touches
Emma and shares her thoughts with the sheriff. It becomes clear to Powder that he will fit in with
the others, so he runs away and goes back home. Had they not judged him, they would be able to
see the good and potential in him. The writer/director wants the audience to think that our
judgements and criticism shields us from seeing the good and beauty in someone or something.
His point is that we only perceive what is in front of us. We as people are afraid of strangers
because we taught to. The word stranger has a series of definitions. According to Dictionary.com,
A stranger can be a person with whom one has had no acquaintance, a newcomer in a place or
locality. An outsider, or a person who is not a member of the family, group, community, or a visitor.
The Intended audience seems to be Adults, or anyone into fantasy and mystery movies. The writer
s purpose in writing the film is to persuade or convince the audience to

Intro:
A P by John Updike and A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner are two short stories which reveal
to be different, odd and even bizarre in several aspects; conversely, on the other hand, they are
very similar. One similarity for John Updike, William Faulkner and many other authors, is being
that they follow the three act structure, which helps to write their story more effectively.
Furthermore, in analyzing A P and A Rose for Emily, we see that both share an overarching theme;
however, their symbolism and conflicts are different, yet finally, in the end, you will see which one
I infer does a better job compared to the other.

8. Substandard Materials Used In RMS Titanic
DRAFT 2
1.0Rivets
The substandard material and the error in the placement of different type of rivets in RMS Titanic
hull lead to the catastrophic event. In RMS Titanic over 3 million rivets of iron and steel were
used to hold the about a million of one inch thick iron plates of the ship hull. This section will
introduce us to the rivets, its types and working. A rivet is a permanent mechanical fastener which
is used to hold together the two plates. Figure 1: Rivets (Before Installation)
As shown in figure: 1, before being installed, a rivet consists of two distinct parts a cylindrical

Rivet B and D are the split rivets and rivets C and E are solid tail rivets. Both the split and solid
rivets have different uses in the industry. 1.3 Material of Rivets Depending on the type of
material used for the manufacturing of rivet we can have wide range of rivets. During the early
1900 s the Iron rivets were getting replaced by the more durable and ductile steel rivets. In Titanic
both steel and iron rivets were used at different places of the hull. Now days, Recent materials like
Aluminium and Carbon Fibers are used by the rivet manufacturers due to the high performance
level and they are easy to mould for the attractive looks as compared to the steel and iron.
In the conclusion, RMS Titanic used round headed solid rivets of iron and steel in the different
locations of ship hull which were installed manually and some were hydraulically driven at
different locations. The substandard material and the error in the placement of different type of
rivets is the root cause of sinking of RMS Titanic after it hit the iceberg its hull collapsed and led to
this disaster.

Beethoven wrote this to accompany a drama called Coriolan by Heinrich Joseph von Collin, in
Vienna in the year 1807 (Viant, K. C. Coriolan Overture, Op. 62. ). The drama is the same as the
tragedy written by William Shakespeare. The genre for this piece would be a concert overture. A
concert overture is played at a beginning of a concert and it is a one movement work in sonata
form, and it is always program music. Program music is instrumental music that is associated with
story and in this case, the story examines the problem of deposing a bad ruler and the consequent
civil unrest (McConnell, L. Coriolanus. ). The beginning of the piece starts with the strings, with
the dynamics being mezzo forte. With the addition of the flutes, it sounds mezzo piano. Near the
end, there are pizzicato, where the string instruments are plucked and the dynamics is in piano.
The tempo of the piece is moderato overall. The beginning is more allegretto and near the end it is
more adagio. The key of this piece is in C minor. Since this is an overture, the piece was around ten
minutes.
The second piece sounded more unique since there were soloists. The Triple Concerto. It was
composed in 1803 and it was the only concerto Beethoven composed with more than one soloist.
This is one of the longer pieces and continued for approximately 40 minutes. The genre of this
piece is triple concerto, where there is a large ensemble with three instrumental soloists which in

IIntroduction: The simple act of breathing as we know it, is not as simple as it seems. Breathing
takes numerous organs and requires a variety of complex operations to correctly occur. One of the
most unique factors of breathing is pulmonary surfactant. Pulmonary Surfactant is an oily fluid
that is composed of a mixture of lipids and protein molecules that coats the inner alveolar surface
(McKinley, 2016). The internal surface of alveoli is moist, which makes it prone to collapsing
because of its high surface tension, pulmonary surfactant keeps the alveoli and lungs from
collapsing (McKinley, 2016). The importance of surfactant can be seen in the birth and

11. Animal Cruelty, And The Four Types Of Animal Abuse
Animal abuse and cruelty does not just specialize in just one type of animal. It is more diverse
that it is right. Animal abuse can mean many different things, like an animal tied to a tree or
something where they do not have the mobility that they need or have access to food and water.
It can also mean making animals fight till one or both can no longer stand up for themselves of
till one of them is dead or not both. Another type of animal cruelty or abuse is poaching whales
for their blubber or rhinos or elephants for the horns or tusk to sell on the black market. There
actually is a lot more kinds of animal abuse and cruelty like trophy hunting, testing harsh chemicals
and products on animals, also with the food we consume; some of those animals never get to see
the light of day or get to breath fresh air. Luckily there are some groups or organizations out there
who want to help and are willing to. Just to name a few there is the Humane Society, ASPCA,
PETA, and the United States of Americas Congress. So much has happened recently that the US
has broken it down into four categories, simple or gross neglect; intentional abuse and torture;
organized abuse, including dogfighting and cockfighting; and animal sexual abuse (Fricker, Peter.
Increase Penalties for Animal Cruelty; it s Now a Felony in U.S. ). Animal abuse and cruelty have
been around for centuries. It was in 1641 that the Puritans of Massachusetts Bay Colony passed
The Bodies of Liberties, which forbade cruelty to animals(Ramsey, S., Esq. (2013). Enforcing your
state animal cruelty laws. Deputy and Court Officer, 5(3), 31 35). That was just the start of animal
rightsspreading across the US. Maine happened to be the first state to pass an animals protection
law, while today South Dakota is the last state to make it a felony. There is still a long way to go
before animals can finally live in peace, but the US has made progress over the years. Now been
said about Maine and South Dakota with their laws and regulations North Carolina has passed a
law banning animal activist from secret filming of the livestock treatment (Tracy, T. 2015, Jun 03).

According to Proton Pump inhibitors (PPIs) decrease the generation of acid by hindering the
enzyme in the mass of the stomach that produces the acid. Acid is vital for the arrangement of
most ulcers in the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum, and the decrease of acid with PPIs avoids
ulcers and permits any ulcer that exists in the throat, stomach, and duodenum to mend. According
to medicinenet.com (), proton pump inhibitors are used for the prevention and treatment of acid

Zollinger Ellison syndrome Esophageal duodenal and stomach ulcers Ulcers There are many
different drugs that are associated with the use of PPIs such as Lansoprazole (Prevacid, Prevacid

13. What Is The Moral Of Plato s Apology
Plato s Apology, is by far one of the most logical yet critical thinking text that I have ever read.
Plato describes Socrates, the accused atheist and corrupter of youth in ancient Athens, as a true
beacon of ethics and morality. The method that Plato uses to depict Socrates on trial gives us a
look back on how the trial of a man who encourages one of sound mind to ask questions even to

Continuing with his defense Socrates addresses one of his accusers Meletus in accordance to the
accusation that he is a corrupter of youth.. He asks a series of questions to Meletus which he
answers yes to all. But it Socrates last question that shows his true motive for all the questions,
Then every Athenian improves and elevates them; all with the exception of myself; and I alone am
their corrupter? Is that what you affirm? (Plato) Meletus replies That is what I stoutly affirm.
(Plato) Socrates response to this just add another mark for his cleverness I am very unfortunate if
that is true. ... Happy indeed would be the condition of youth if they had one corrupter only, and all
the rest of the world were their improvers. (Plato) By asking these questions to Meletus, Socrates
exposes Meletus answers as counterintuitive: For if they were true then the society of Athens would
be a much better place with little to no corruption. Socrates reveals it is those who are accusing the
innocent of being corrupt that are themselves corrupt.

It was weeks before Christmas, when all through the house there was a mess that needed to be

And what to mine eyes did appear, here and there boxes were everywhere.
So, Dad in his office working and I, Mom in the laundry room laundering, did nothing with those
boxes.
We did stop and stare on our way, to and fro. However, those silly boxes just sat there and mocked
us.
Meanwhile, up stairs the windows were bare all but one, which did have a few cling on decorations
hanging there.
Then on the floor for all to see, there were some more decorations of a special kind, they played
music of various kinds.

Then there was the tree, there it was, right there in the box. It sat there looking lonely like it

Chosen news/article: Government targets 1 crore consumers to give up LPG subsidy PTI Mar 29,
2015, 02.47PM IST, The Economic Times
1. Summary
Under the scheme, LPG cylinders are sold at market rates across the country. Consumers get Rs
558 in their bank accounts so that they can buy LPG at the market rate of Rs 605 per 14.2 kg
cylinder.
There is a strand of thought that in India the incomes of most consumers remain far below the
global average, and, therefore, it is the government s responsibility to pay for those who cannot
afford.
Government expects that about one crore well off consumers will surrender the subsidy on cooking
gas after Prime Minister Narendra Modi s appeal to people not to take subsidy if they can afford to
buy LPG at market price.
This money can be used for schools and providing medical facilities. I appeal to people who can
afford LPG cylinders at market price, please do not take subsidised LPG, the Indian Prime Minister
said. 2. Background:
In fiscal year 2014 15 (to date) there have been no significant increases in the retail price of
subsidized LPG. On10th November 2014 it was reported that the per cylinder subsidy would be
fixed at Rs 568 from March 2015 an amount Rs 163.36 above the average per cylinder under
recovery recorded in early October 2014.

17. Analysis Of Howard Zinn s The United States
There is an underside to every age about which history does not often speak, because history is
written from records left by the privileged.
― Howard Zinn, A People s History of the United States
Zinn once remarked, Objectivity is impossible and it is also undesirable. That is, if it were
possible it would be undesirable, because if you have any kind of a social aim, if you think history
should serve society in some way; should serve the progress of the human race; should serve justice
in some way, then it requires that you make your selection on the basis of what you think will
advance causes of humanity (Flynn). It is pretty clear to the reader that Zinn believes that socialism
and Communism are systems that advance the cause of humanity, and that America is a
reactionary, terrorist state; those beliefs form the foundation of his tendentious and error ridden
book.
In A People s History of the United States, greed is the explanation for every major historical event.
As we see in Zinn s book, just to name a few examples, the separation from Great Britain, the
Civil War, and World Wars I and II were driven by motives involving rich Americans more or less
seeking to improve themselves at the expenses of others. To me it seems that there is clearly a
disparity between the promise and practice of democracy and capitalism in twentieth century
America. For Zinn, the answer is the same as the question pretty much. America is a cruel,
slaveholder society whose goal is

Oft of one wide expanse had I been told
That deep browed Homer ruled as his demesne;

As soon as he beheld the South Sea stretching in endless prospect below him, he fell on his knees,
and lifting up his hands to Heaven, returned thanks to God, who had conducted him to a discovery
so beneficial to his country, and so honourable to himself. His followers, observing his transports of
joy, rushed forward to join in his wonder, exultation, and gratitude (Vol. III).
John Keats simply remembered the image, rather than the actual historical facts. Charles Clarke
noticed the error immediately, but Keats chose to leave it in, presumably because historical
accuracy would have necessitated an unwanted extra syllable in the line.
In retrospect, Homer s pure serene has prepared the reader for the Pacific, and so the analogy now
expressed in the simile that identifies the wide expanse of Homer s demesne with the vast Pacific,
which stuns its discoverers into silence, is felt to be the more just.
Keats altered wondr ing eyes (in the original manuscript) to eagle eyes , and Yet could I never

Examiner) to Yet did I never breathe its pure serene .

19. How Does The Author Use Imagery In Herman Melville s Writing
Maggie Asman
Mrs. Sparks
AP Literature Period 2

The Works of Herman Melville
Embodying the qualities of an author during his lifetime, Herman Melville utilizes imagery in his
works in a quest to prove that nature is sublime and untamable. He was alive during the 1800 s
and experienced the romantic era as a small child. His ideas were heavily influenced by the ideas
of the Romantics and the way they valued nature. Herman Melville was a very adventurous man and
starting when he was only twenty years old took his first sea voyage from New York City to
Liverpool. This voyage was the main influence in the publishing of his first novel, Redburn: His
First Voyage. Subsequently, he began to write more novels, short stories, and poems about his

Not only did he use the adventure and nature aspects of his journeys in his works, but he also
included his personal knowledge about becoming independent and his growing individuality. This
concept of individuality was very popular in the Romantic Era and was clearly a large influence in
Melville s writing. He effectively used imagery to keep his stories interesting and understandable.
He brilliantly used this imagery to describe the fabulous phenomenon of nature and the
individuality of many characters. Some of Melville s numerous short stories include Bartleby the
Scrivener , The Piazza , Benito Cereno, The Lightning Rod Man, The Encantadas, and The Bell
Tower. All of these stories utilize extraordinary language infused with colorful imagery in

It shows how ivy colleges prefer legacy admissions. Although it is not illegal, but recently two legal
theories are offered under which legacy preferences could be challenged at both public and private
institutions under the Fourteenth Amendment s Equal Protection Clause (Ladeswki 578). The
civil act of 1866 prevents the states from giving titles of nobility. Minorities since most of elite
university s alumni belong to upper class families. Americans are concerned about such type of
practices as it creates doubt about institution s commitment to meritocracy and equal opportunity
(Mullen 47). On the contrary, three out of four Americans oppose ancestry based discrimination
so they can create equal opportunities for lower class families to get into elite colleges.
According to Mullen research shows that a candidate has a 30% chance of admission, an
applicant with the exact same academic record and extracurricular activities, but also a parent
who attended the school as an undergraduate would have 75% chance. This shows that due to
legacy admission, there s less academic competition. Moreover, many colleges claim that legacy
status is just use as a tie breaker in a very close admission call. However, according to the book
affirmative action for the rich informs that the weight of legacy preference is noteworthy, adding
160 points to candidate s record. Samuel G. Freedman states that there are varieties of unearned

Therefore, it has been obliged to deregulate foreign exchange controls by observing article 8 of

Gaishi Shingikai (Foreign Investment Deliberation Council) highlighted the negative points of

27. The Role Of Babbling On Child Language Acquisition
Language Acquisition Assignment 2
Discuss the role of babbling in child language acquisition
As a child develops along their journey to acquire language, they go through several steps, of
which all are crucial to the successful mastering of their native tongue. There is debate over
whether the period of acquisition known as babbling is the first or second stage Berk (1991)
mentions that they class babbling as the first stage, but note that there is a previous stage before
that, known as the cooing stage; following this, this essay will refer to babbling as the second stage
of language acquisition. To introduce a general overview of this particular stage, Berk (1991)
explains that cooing usually develops into babbling at around 6 ... Show more content on

However, Pinker (1994) then goes onto note that the particular sub stage of reduplicated babbling
occurs around 7 8 months, and states that the children will exercise phonemes and syllable patterns
that are not specific to a singular language, but rather are seen as common across a variety of
languages. Yet, Pinker (1994) does also argue that the children are able to distinguish between
phonemes of their own mother tongue, which has been seen from birth, and this is seen to be more
prominent by the time the child reaches the age of around 10 months. Pinker (1994) refers to this as
the children no longer being universal phoneticians , and states that the children will no longer
distinguish foreign phonemes.
To expand on Pinker s (1994) argument about children s ability to discriminate between phonemes
of their mother tongue compared to a foreign language, it would be sensible to first note that
Pinker conducted a lot of research on the recognition of phonemes by children. One of Pinker s
(1994) research projects included exposing native French infants to both Russian and French

The Injustice of Racial Prejudice
Is there racial discrimination in the United States criminal justice system? If so, how can we change
this? Police brutality against minorities has specifically brought attention to this subject.
Researchers have been studying racial prejudice in everyday life, police interactions with civilians,
and in the courtroom.
Researchers studied racial prejudice in everyday interactions. These simple interactions can help us
understand how to improve the criminal justice system even before jurors step into the courtroom.
Lowery, Hardin, and Sinclair (2001) wanted to know if the race of the experimenter would elicit
automatic racial prejudice from participants. The results showed that when the experimenter was
Black and the participants were White, there were fewer anti Black answers, meaning that there
were less negative association with Black names or faces on the test they completed . Asians, on the
other hand, did not hide their biases. When the anti bias instructions were received, Whites and
Asians had similar results. These results show that framing jury instructions and having Black
people present in a White setting can help decrease bias in courts.
Researchers also studied racial prejudice directly in the criminal justice system. Eberhardt, Goff,

33. Under the Staircase
Under the Staircase
Excitement coursed through my veins in my tiny five year old body as my feet dangled off the
velvety, red chairs. I wipe my buttery figures off on my pants as I stare up at the huge movie
screen in front of me. At the time I had absolutely no idea what movie we were seeing, but when
it was over I found myself making a little nook under our staircases, grabbing the broom
pretending that I was flying and carrying around a stick saying it s leviOsa not levioSA in the best
British accent I had at five.
Fast forward six years later and I am now eleven and if you have not guessed what movie I am
talking about her comes a major hint and waiting for my Hogwarts acceptance letter or Hagrid to
knock down my door, either one would have sufficed. Yet, when it did not come I convinced
myself that it got lost in translation somewhere (well I still do). However, I engrossed myself in
anything and everything about the wizarding world of Harry Potter. Since then, the books have
been read countless of times and I know every single line in all of the movies but because of this
amazing world I have learned multiple life lessons from the novels that I apply to my life every day
since.
The first lesson is that everything will always be ok; you just to have hope. Let s face it well have
dark periods in our lives that we just cannot seem to see a way out. One of the darkest periods in
my life is my freshman year. My day to day life was subject to torment by my peers. The

and people already there.
In Utah History there are three main contributors. The Mormon Pioneers, The Mountain Men, and
the Native Americans. Some people wonder, who affected history the most? I think that it was the
Mormon Pioneers. They were the ones who pushed the U.S Government to grant them the status of
a State. Today in Utah, about sixty percent of the people here are Mormons.

36. The Time I Gained To Read In High School
The earliest I have of myself reading is in early kindergarten. Vividly, I remember parking my butt
right in front of my decaying bookshelf. The white shelves was filled with skinny books placed in
our kitchen (at the time my family lived in a small apartment, so the entrance near the kitchen was
the only place to put it). At the time, I picked books of the bottom shelf and try to read the whole
stack. I absolutely loved reading when I was younger. Yet somehow, whether or not it was
because I was forced to read in school, or over a gradual slump my passion died out. Nevertheless,
my younger self was infatuated with reading, and it might as well be worth sharing.
Since kindergarten the biggest push over the course of the year was to read, and being the young, ...

My class had a fantastic book selection for the English curriculum. During the ninety minutes
spent dedicated to either The BFG, Bridge to Terabithia, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, or the
Phantom Tollbooth, and I felt comfortable while my teacher read a chapter or two to us everyday.
To this day I have the books sitting on my shabby bookshelf. I haven t opened them in a long time,
but I refuse to give them away. Not only that but, my teacher once read an Encyclopedia Brown
book, and that got me interested in mystery books. In fact, the next time I went to the library, I got
eight Encyclopedia Brown books and read them all in two days.
By seventh grade, I didn t like to read as much as I used to. It s probably due to the fact that
throughout my school years, reading had to be done, and the type of reading was enjoyable.
That was the case for some of seventh grade, but two books I read in English class stood out to
me. One was a memoir, Red Scarf Girl and the other was a nonfiction book about the atomic
bomb, simply named Bomb. The way the author crafted each book, made me read them over and

38. Tone, Symbols In Sylvia Plath s Poem, Daddy
In Sylvia Plath s free verse poem, Daddy, she describes her hatred towards her deceased father.
Plath uses tone, figures of speech, and symbols to illustrate her extreme anger and female protest
towards the man that raised her. Sylvia Plath has a dark, bitter tone in Daddy. She recalls all the
pain that her father has put her through, even after his death. The hatred in her tone deepens
throughout the poem. She starts by explaining that when she was twenty [she] tried to die/And get
back, back, back to [her father] (Plath 58 59), but by saying Daddy, daddy, you bastard, I m through.
(Plath, 80), she declares her disgust. It is apparent that Plath has frustration towards men, claiming

Plath uses allusions to the former dictator of Germany, Hitler, in her poem Daddy . She
describes her dad with words such as Luftwaffe (Plath 42), Aryan eye, bright blue (Plath 44), and
German tongue (Plath 16), connecting him to the Nazis. She illustrates her father having a neat
mustache (Plath 43), which is similar to Hitler s infamous mustache. Plath uses sarcasm by
saying that Every woman adores a Fascist, / The boot in the face, the brute/ Brute heart of a brute
like you. (Plath 48 50), joking that women love the controlling wicked men like Hitler. She also
compares her father to the devil himself. She looks at a picture she has of him, and describes A
cleft in [her father s] chin instead of [his] foot/ But no less a devil for that (Plath 53 54),
connecting the cleft in his chin to a cleft in a hoof of the Devil. Lastly, she models the man she
was with for Seven years, if you want to know (Plath 74) as a vampire. Plath states that this man
drank [her] blood for a year (Plath 73), draining and dominating her just as a vampire would do
with his victims. She compares her father to a vampire as well, saying, There s a stake in [his] fat
black heart (Plath 76), destroying him just as it would a blood sucking

39. The Battle Of The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Tablet IV tells the story of Gilgamesh and Enkidu partaking in their adventure to the edge of the
Cedar Forest, and their encounter with a guard, an enemy. Throughout this battle, Gilgamesh loses
faith in the couples ability to defeat the guard but is ultimately talked back into his heroic mindset
by The Gods. In column VI, having just defeated the guard, Enkiduthen finds himself in a similar
situation to Gilgamesh, whereby he doubts their ability to defeat Humbaba, and it comes down to
Gilgamesh, and his leadership to reiterate the ongoing theme of companionship in order to convince
Enkidu to continue fighting in order to finish the battle. The theme of the inevitability of death is
also shown throughout this column, with Enkidu s injury being a clear indication of what is
undoubtedly going to happen later in the poem. Column VI of the Epic of Gilgameshbegins with
Enkidu seeking reassurance and support from Gilgamesh in the lack of a God s presence. This
reiterates the theme of companionship that is coherent throughout the poem and conforms to the
epic herocycle of being accompanied by a companion. Enkidu is injured and informs Gilgamesh I
lost my strength in this crushed hand when the gate slammed shut. (Tablet IV. 38). In saying that he
has lost strength, Enkidu is not only informing Gilgamesh that he is physically harmed from the
previous battle, but is also bringing up one of the reoccurring themes of the poem: the inevitability
of death. His loss of strength

40. Female Representation Of Women During Star Wars
A very short time ago, in a world very well known, the famous Star Wars movies were brought to
creation. George Lucas originally exposed the original Star Wars in 1977, and it has continued to
up to present day. The ideas Lucas created through these movies helped evolve other films. One of
the things that the prior Star Warsdidn t evolve though was female representation in movies. The
representation of women in past Star Wars films compared to the most recent Star Wars film has
substantially evolved in the characterization of females. Through watching all Star Wars films, I
can personally say that there was a dramatic change in how females were perceived in past Star
Wars films compared to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

These types of clothing consisted of avoidable tears in shirts and other clothing to show off her
toned mid drift. Females are taken considerably more serious in the more current Star Wars film.
In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a female character was portrayed as one of the stormtroopers
captains. Captain Phasma, however, was not portrayed like most female characters in past
films. Instead of being depicted as a sexual and dependent character, her script and costume
conveyed otherwise. Captain Phasma wore an outfit similar to an average stormtrooper of any
gender that did not sexualize her character. As well as this, the script used for her character
showed little correlation to the stereotypical female presentation in prior films. It consisted of
her characters script corresponding to how a stormtrooper captain would behave. She was not
there to please the audience, or act sexy, but instead to play a part in the movie. Another
representation of this is the female character, Rey. This character was given the opportunity to
develop into who she was, not for the purpose of a man. Rey is one of the most prominent
characters in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Her character spends no time developing for a man
but instead trying to do what is right. Her characters attire, similar to Captain Phasma, is not based
to please the audience, but instead based on the particular situation she was in. As well as these
characters, there was Maz

41. Essay on Reservation Blues by Sherman Alexie
In the novel Reservation Blues, most of the characters struggle with their identity at some point.
Victor has an especially strong urge to rebel against his Native American heritage, which is
apparent in his violent, arrogant demeanor and his obvious problem with alcohol. Victor is tied to
his past and has trouble coping with his life as it is, and is in a constant battle with himself, his
surroundings, and other people. Early in the book, Victoris portrayed as somewhat of a bully, and he
and Juniorare even referred to as, two of the most accomplished bullies of recent Native American
history. (page 13) Victor s closest and most meaningful relationship in the book is his friendship
with Junior. It s unclear why Junior... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While he may think that drinking is a way to escape being Native American, in actuality, it just
perpetuates the cycle of alcoholism on the reservation. In the early stages of starting the band, it
becomes clear that Victor will be the guitar player. Since Robert Johnson?s guitar seems to be
somewhat evil, and maybe even possessed or cursed by the devil or the Gentleman, it makes
sense that the guitar would end up in Victor?s hands. Victor?s playing of the guitar, along with
the cuts and blisters on his hands, could be a sign of his slipping further away from his culture,
and the eventual suffering and pain that will come from that. Rock and roll seems to be Victor?s
escape from life on the reservation, and in his mind, the only way that he may ever escape it.
However, it is mentioned that, ?Though they always pretended to be the toughest Indian men in the
world, they suffered terrible bouts of homesickness as soon as they crossed the Spokane Indian
Reservation border,? (page 61) which suggests that perhaps Victor is more attached to the
reservation and Native American life than he seems to be.
When Victor was nine years old, he was molested by a priest at a Mission School. Because of his
experience, he distrusts and avoids most aspects of the church. Religion plays little, if any, part in
Victor?s life.
Throughout the book, it became clear that
