(10 points)
There are clastics, nonclastics, and evaporites. Clastics include sandstone, which is a reservoir,
and shale, which is a source, trap, and also a reservoir. An example of a nonclastic is carbonate,
which is a reservoir. An example of an evaporite is salt, which is a trap.
10. The seismic reflection coefficient R for the interface between two layers of rock is given
(approximately) by the following equation for normal incidence (sound raypaths hit the interface
between two rock layers at a right angle), where ПЃ1 is the density of layer 1 (top), ПЃ2 is the
density of layer 2 (bottom), v1 is the velocity of sound in layer 1 (top) and v2 is the velocity of
sound in layer 2 (bottom):
Calculate the reflection coefficient R if ПЃ1 = 2.1 gm/cm3, ПЃ2 = 2.2 gm/cm3, v1 = 1500 m/s,
and v2 = 2000 m/s. (5 points)
The reflection coefficient is 0.17
11. Why do Petroleum Engineers care about Plate Tectonics? (4 points)
It tells them about the creation of structures and basins. It also helps them identify places where
there are potential reservoirs or source rocks.
12. Flow from a pressured zone (interval of porous rock) encountered while drilling is controlled
when the mud weight in the wellbore provides a pressure that equals or exceeds the pressure of
the zone. There is a pressured zone at 8000psi penetrated while drilling at 15,000ft

Examples Of Courage In The View From Saturday
Sometimes in life it takes courage to do activities in life. For example, sometimes it takes
courage to go up in front of the classroom and talk or present in front of everyone because they
get nervous or they are shy to go up and talk to everyone. In the book The View from Saturday by
E.L Konigsburg there are many people that had courageand they were very brave. In The View
from Saturday there are many people that have courage. For example, Ethan had courage when
he went to Julian s tea party and gave Julian a pink heart shaped puzzle. He had courage because
that present was like for a girl but that was the only puzzle the store had and he was afraid that
Julian would laugh at him. Another example of courage is when Noah gave his red wagon

Act Two Scene One in The Taming of the Shrew Essay
Act Two Scene One in The Taming of the Shrew
The scene that I will be analysing in this piece of coursework, Act two Scene one, is an important
scene in the play as a whole as it is the first time that we see the two main characters together. The
characters Petruchio and Katherina have been developed separately until now; the audience has
noticed similarities in their personalities such as use of physical strength and good use of words.
We know that Petruchio is set to woo Katherine and all the tension that has been building up in
anticipation of their meeting is about to be released.
This scene contains a soliloquy from Petruchio in which he tells us about his plan to tame
Katherina, this is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows that Bianca is trying to stand up to Katherina, but in response to this she is struck by
her sister, once again showing Katherina s inclination to use physical violence whenever possible.
Although we should be feeling sympathetic towards Bianca at this stage, we can t help but
sympathise for Katherina also. There is obviously a reason for this behaviour and although she
denies it maybe Katherina is subconsciously envious of Bianca and maybe has a desire to be
married herself, even if she doesn t know it yet.
Bianca s line:
So well I know my duties to my elders
Seems smug, this is her way of tormenting Katherina suggesting she is irregular for not conforming
to the expectations of society. When Baptista, her father enters we see him rush to Bianca s aid, he
does not even ask for Katherina s reasoning for tying up her sister but reprimands her anyway:
Thou hilding of a devilish spirit
Again we can sympathise for Katherina as her father is calling her a good for nothing devil. This
shows us Baptista s preference towards Bianca which is understandable for those times when
women were always

The Healthcare Industry And The Roles Ict Plays As Well As...
Abstract: In the Last Decade advancements in information and communication Technologies (ICT)
has provided solutions to the problems in health care managements system ICTs. It has the
possibility to massively contribute to improving access and quality of services while containing
costs. Improving health involves improving public health and medical programs designed to
provide elective, emergency, and long term clinical care; educating people; improving nutrition and
hygiene; and providing more sanitary living conditions. However, there is a low implementation
rate for Health ICT systems. This Paper will examine information management in the healthcare
industry and the roles ICT Plays as well as evaluate the barriers faced when implementing... Show

It also has the potential to lead to better cost efficiency in the health sector. ICT can play a critical
role in improving health care for individuals and communities. It can also transform informal
regulation by providing people with the knowledge they require to challenge existing practices and
make more rational health care choices (Adeboyejo and Olatokun, 2009). Patients are empowered
to take more responsibility for their health and quality of life through the use of health ICT. Health
ICT allows the collaboration and involvement of patients and healthcare providers in the prevention
and treatment of common illnesses. Through the development of databases and other applications,
health ICT provides new and more efficient ways of accessing, communicating, and storing
information. Hence, it ensures top quality healthcare services for patients. Evidence Based
Medicine: The role of Health ICT within the Health Sector Adopting and implementing a health
ICT system is a major organizational commitment that may possibly last health care providers for
several years. In order to take full advantage of such systems, providers are required to redesign
the way they practice medicine (Congressional Budget Office, 2008). Health ICT is offering the
health care sector a fresh domain known as evidence based medicine (EBM). EBM marks a shift
within the health care sector from a traditional practice which emphasis on clinical authoritative
opinions, to an emphasis on data

Compare And Contrast Mindfulness And Existential Psychology
In this assignment I will be comparing two approaches used to understand fear and sadness and
how therapists work with clients. I will summarise both the existential psychology approach and
the mindfulness approach and how they work with helping understand fear and sadness. I will
discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both of these approaches, and why either one could
be considered as favourable. I will then conclude the essay with which method I m more drawn
too, and with the resources and evidence available to me I will explain why.
Existential psychotherapy is a philosophical method of therapy that focuses on helping clients to
learn to live well in the face of the inevitable adversity and uncertainty of life itself , (Langdridge, ...

Mindfulness has been an integral part of Buddhism for 2500 years. Mindfulness has the intention to
accept and be non judgmental, but rather to focus your attention on the emotions, thoughts and
sensations happening at the present moment. For example have you ever been driving somewhere
and got to your destination only to realise you can t remember anything about your journey? The
practice of mindfulness is experiencing what we are going through right now without attaching a
load of past baggage to it, or trying to figure out ways to make it different , (Barker, p.177). When
practised, mindfulness helps you stay in the present moment, not to drift of in your mind about past
experiences, as this can build up your anxieties and fears and make things seem worse than they are.
Mindfulness meditation can become a mental position for being able to separate a given experience
from an associated emotion, and can help facilitate a skilful or mindful response to a specific
situation. Meditation starts with introducing body focussed mindfulness of the breath. This
involves noticing the body sensations associated with breath and breathing which in turn, when
practised, allows thoughts, feelings, emotions to emerge, and it can feel such a relief not to have to
fight with them to get rid of them, understand that they could just be

Franklin D. Roosevelt s Failure At The Yalta Conference
Failure at the Yalta Conference The Yalta conference was a conference held by Franklin D.
Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin in 1945, to discuss post world war Europe and
to divide the power of Germany among themselves. At this conference Franklin D. Roosevelt FDR
, would give the U.S.S.R power that would lead to them becoming a super power and thus creating
a catullus of events. The power FDR gave the U.S.S.R during the Yalta conferencehad a domino
effect of good and bad for both countries. The United States gave the U.S.S.R too much power and
trust during the Yalta conference at the end of WW2. Two months after the Yalta conference FDR

After the U.S dropped the bomb on Japan the U.S.S.R started its plan to create the bomb too.
Not long after the U.S dropped the bomb the U.S.S.R created their first nuclear bomb, igniting
the nuclear arms race with the U.S and starting the cold war as told by the American Museum of
Natural History Initially, only the United States possessed atomic weapons, but in 1949 the
Soviet Union exploded an atomic and the arms race began. The U.S.S.R began its nuclear
project to create a nuclear bomb to compete with the United States and not fall behind them in
the cold war and to try and to become the superior power. The reason that the U.S.S.R felt the
need to compete with the United States because after the power they gained during the Yalta
conference they became a large super power and the United States was the only other country
big enough to compete with the Soviets. The Soviets wanted control of west Berlin so that they
could have all of eastern Europe so they blocked off all ways into west Berlin in a plan to not
only compete but try to run the United States out of west Berlin to try and get an upper hand in
the cold war and in the at the time possible war between the U.S.S.R and the United States. The

Montgomery College Student Parking Problem
From my perspective as a Montgomery College student, the current parking situation has
become a problem that needs to be addressed. On the west campus there is only one parking
garage and there are not enough spaces for all of the students to park. Some students spend a lot
of time circling around looking for a parking space. There is street parking, but students feel that
they should not have to pay for parking. In order to get a parking spot, I have to arrive at around
8:00 AM even if my class isn t even until late morning.
When I get to the parking garage at around 11:00 AM most of the spaces are filled, and the change

In the city many places are narrow and you have to build up. So to fit more cars into a small
space there are lifts. One kind of lift is called the Robotic Parking System. It enables parking
from several hundred cars to several thousand in half the amount of space. A person would drive
their car into the parking terminal, and sensors would ensure that the car was placed correctly.
The driver would exit the vehicle, lock the doors and take a parking card from the kiosk. A
computer system then lifts the car and places it on a shelving system. When one is ready to
leave they place their parking card into a kiosk and the system locates their car and brings it
down. The screen then displays where the driver can pick up their car. This also insures safe
parking since it is impossible for someone to break and steal your car. An additional option that is
probably the least expensive would be for students to park in parking garages in downtown Silver
Spring. Shuttles buses could be provided by the College to pick up students from the garage and at
the end of the day the shuttle could bring the students back to their cars. No solution goes without
having its issues, whether it is structural, financial or aesthetic. Some of the solutions to expand the
parking are more reasonable, while some will cost a pretty penny. Whichever proposal the college
decides to go with will benefit the

Essay about Compare and Contrast Traditional and Modern...
Faouzi NOURI GIRONES CIT 071807 Compare and contrast traditional and modern families
Since the nineteenth century, in the western societies, family patterns changed under the forces of
industrialisation and urbanisation. Another factor which has been involved in those changes is the
growing intervention of the state, by legislative action, in the domestic affairs of the family. As a
result of these trends, the modern nuclear family has been substituted for the traditional extended
family. The increase of values such as individualism and egalitarism has influenced the patterns of

In addition, in the traditional families the mother usually bore the sole responsibility of the child
caring. Modern parents now share this responsibility together because of social and work
constraints. However, holidays which are not common in the traditional family, allow them to
spend quality time with their children. Moreover in many modern families the father becomes a
house worker, to provide for the needs of his children. As the statistics shown in the United
Kingdom in 2001, 155 000 fathers were stay home husbands. All in all, the emphasis on nurturing
children can be seen in traditional and modern families, alike.
Apart from the similarities mentioned above, traditional and modern families have several
differences in the areas of family size and gender roles.
One major difference between the traditional and modern family is the decrease in family size. The
traditional family tends to be extended with three or more generations in the same household
because it provides a strong union between its members. Another reason for a large household is
that usually farming was the principal economic activity of the family 1 members. In contrast, the
modern family household contains two generations, parents and dependants children. Unlike the
traditional family the modern

Psychological Adjustments for Hirschsprung’s Disease
Hirschsprung Disease Occurring once in approximately 5000 live births, Hirschsprung disease is a
congenital abnormality characterized by the absence of autonomic parasympathetic ganglion cells
in the colon preventing peristalsis and resulting in intestinal obstruction and abdominal distension.
Also known as congenital aganglionic megacolon, this medical malady is an unfortunate anomaly
of a very vulnerable population infants and children. Hirschsprung disease can occur in otherwise
healthy babies, but is commonly diagnosed in combination with Down s syndrome and congenital
heart defects. Functional outcomes, thanks to contemporary medical advances, are generally
successful. As medical professionals, nurses play a significant role in helping patients achieve
therapeutic goals. Therapeutic goals also include a level of psychological wellness in living with
persistent bowel dysfunction after Hirschsprung surgery but few, if any, studies have addressed
this likelihood. Focusing on the results after definitive surgical repair of Hirschsprung disease, the
journal article, An example of psychological adjustment in chronic illness: Hirschsprung s disease
by Athanasakos, Starling, Ross, Nunn, and Cass, identifies outcomes in terms of psychiatric
health. The primary aim of this study was to report overall outcomes after Hirschsprung surgery
and to address the impact of the disease on the optimism for a normal life. Fecal soiling was

Experiential Marketing
FOX, Chantz Christian Creating and Sustaining Customers Through Experiential Marketing
Introduction Marketing is an evolutionary and fluid process that needs to be continually adapted to
consumers in order to keep them coming back time and time again. With increased competition
and volatility on a global scale companies must strive to differentiate themselves from competitors.
Managers should be aware that consumers are changing at an increasing rate as they become more
informed, and should shift from a product and service orientation to a consumer focused
orientation. Simply focusing on an exchange is no longer applicable in today s economy. Pine and

The efficiency and cost effectiveness of staging internet experiences will allow marketers to get
instantaneous and up to date information, as well as educate, demonstrate, or provoke reactions
from their target audience while also building lasting relationships (Smilansky, 2009, p. 126)
Hedonic and Utilitarian Responses In order to create and maintain lasting relationships marketers
and stimulate consumer interest marketers must first identify and adapt to consumer preferences
and behaviors. Two distinctive behaviors of consumption can be identified as hedonic and
utilitarian responses. Hedonic responses are subjective and personal (Babin, Darden, and Griffin,
1994, p. 646), and describe as, those facets of consumer behavior that relate to the multi sensory,
fantasy, and emotive aspects of one s experience with products (Hirschman and Holbrook, 1982, p.
92). In addition, values of hedonic consumption tend to have a fun and playfulness (Holbrook and
Hirschman, 1982 cited in Babin, Darden, and Griffin, 1994, p. 646) where consumers receive
enjoyment from the leisurely activity of shopping (Bäckström, 2010) whether they make an
actual purchase or just casually browsing the newest fashion at the local department store.
Utilitarian consumption values on the other hand can be expressed as purchasing products in a
deliberant and efficient manner and described by consumers as an errand and work where they are

Satire In Greek Comedy
Satirical methods have been introduced since the beginning of history as a form of entertainment
and a way to get a message across. This is demonstrated through Greek comedies in particular.
Greek comedies were typically written to address the common people of that area through actions
and words that they would find humorous. Not much has changed today. Comedy and satirical
methods are still present and continue to hold a place in current society. The Acharniansis a clear
example of an ancient Greek play that uses satireto relay a message, and The Word: Armistice is a
news broadcast that plays as evidence that satirical methods used in the past are still present today.
Both hold many similarities, and their differences reveal how much society and satire have changed
throughout the years. The Acharnians is a satirical, ancient Greek play by playwright Aristophanes
demonstrating a main theme of peace. The play is set during the Peloponnesian war which was
primarily fought between Sparta and Athens. Dicaeopolis, the protagonist of the play who yearns
for peace, impatiently waits for an assembly to begin and will only stand for speeches that speak of
creating peace. However, the general assembly and Athenians are not interested in creating peace.
At the assembly, Dicaeopolis meets Amphitheus who claims to be an immortal god. Amphitheus
gives him a private peace treaty with Sparta in exchange for eight drachmas. Throughout the play,
Dicaepolis is showered with luxurious belongings due to private trade with the enemies of Athens
while Lamachus, a belligerent war hero, is living in terrible conditions due to war. Dicaepolis
convinces the chorus, or common people of the play that maybe war isn t worth the suffering it
brings and that Athenians share more similarities with the people of Sparta than originally thought
of. As a result of this, Dicaepolis is celebrated as a hero at the end of the play. Playwright
Aristophanes uses a series of satirical methods to present his theme of peace throughout The
Acharnians. He makes fun of the citizens of Athens and the Athenian government for their
pugnacious methods in war with Sparta and other nations. War gives them nothing but starvation,
poverty, and death on both

Temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in the object. Internal

Comparing Checks And Balances Of The Executive And A Prime...
President is elected by the voters, while the head of state in a parliament generally Prime
Minister is elected by the legislature. The difference seems small, but it ends up making a world
of difference. The US prides itself on separation of powers the legislature makes the laws, and the
executive executes them. They provide checks and balances on each other, ensuring that neither
one gets too powerful. Either one can work, though. There are many countries with parliaments,
and the executive doesn t run away with power. The parliament itself is still subject to the checks
of the voters: voters unhappy with the performance of the executive will take it out on the
executive s party. That even gives an opportunity for a third party to arise, for voters who don t
want to switch to the opposite party. The next executive is chosen in the parliament based on
negotiations between the third party and the two major parties. That s happening in the UK right
now, where the Liberal Democratic party is in an unlikely coalition with the Conservative party,
after voters abandoned an unpopular Labor Party. The LibDems are still much smaller, but very
potent as kingmakers. (And about to be hammered themselves, next time it comes around.)... Show

Analysis Of Franklin Delano Roosevelt Signed Into Law
Following his election in 1933, Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed into law something radical for
its time: The Social Security Act. This act changed America s economic landscape completely, by
minimizing the long existing problem of retirees and the elderly living below the poverty line.
Simply put, Social Securityis a way to guarantee that older people, namely retirees, have at least a
minimal source of income in their later years, by providing around 40 percent of the average
person s yearly income. Social Security both is and functions as a defined benefit plan, wherein
benefits are decided by the amount of quarters than a person works, and are decided by a sliding
scale with caps (United States). As directed by the sliding scale, per dollar benefits are much
higher for people of lower incomes, while overall benefit amounts are higher for those of higher
incomes (Benefit). Both the scale and the caps are adjusted yearly according to inflation. Social
Security accumulates its funds into a trust fund, and puts excess money into investments in US
Treasury Securities, where interest is accumulated and put back into the fund. Social Security s
benefits are not affected by the investments. Since 1982, the Social Security trust fund has
experienced a net increase and in 2015, the asset reserves sit at 2.8 trillion dollars (Financial).
Despite this, the misinformed often point their fingers at the trust fund and claim that it is on its
last leg, and will soon run out. Every few

The Human Body And Mind Essay
A Picture as I see it.
The human brain is an amazing phenomenon. It is arguably the most important organ in the human
body. True, the heart does pump blood through our veins to transport oxygen from our lungs to the
tissues in our body so we may live, but, without the core of our central nervous system (the Bain) to
regulate the heartbeat, breathing, sight, sensations, hearing and many other functions that our body
s perform every moment of our lives, we would die. Look at the brain as a computer motherboard, it
is programed to tell our body what to do when to do it through thought or instinct. In order for the
brain to tell our body s exactly how to react to a situation it first must know what is going on. This
is accomplished throughout the body by Sensation and Perception. To show how this process works
in the human body and mind, I will choose a painting that I have never seen before and describe
how my mind processes this information and relays it to the rest of my body to get either an
emotional or physical reaction. I will also describe how writing this paper has affected my
perception on critical thinking. First let us start by defining Sensation and Perception. Sensation is
the retrieval process of stimulus from the outside the human body (King, L.A. (2016). Experience
psychology. (3rd ed). New York: McGraw Hill). Perception as also defined by (King, L.A. (2016).

is found in the gastric mucous layer of the stomach, or NSAIDs. There is multiple things to learn
about a Peptic Ulcer: the history of one, what causes it, who can mostly get it, diagnosis, treatments,
and prevention.
In the early 20th century ulcers were believed to be caused my dietary and stress factors. If
someone was diagnosed with an ulcer they were hospitalized and put on a bland food diet. Then
later on in the 20th century gastric acid was blamed for causing ulcers. So then treatment changed
to antacids and medication that stopped gastric acid. In 1982 Robin Warren and Barry Marshall
identified that Helicobacter pylori and ulcers were connected to each other. People did not accept
their findings. People still believed it was stress, diet, or gastric acid that caused the ulcers. Many
years later in 1994, A National Institutes of Health Consensus Development Conference concluded
that Helicobacter pylori was strongly related to ulcers and that the bacterium Helicobacter pylori
could be treated with antibiotics. Then, a year later in 1995 data showed that 75% of

Methods Of Using Stratified Sampling Essay
Procedure This present study utilized two self report surveys administered to inmates within state
run prisons in Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Virginia. The
participating facilities and the inmates were selected utilizing stratified sampling. From the total
number of facilities (126), fifty facilities were randomly selected. The facilities were selected by
grouping them into different security levels (maximum, medium, and minimum) and were all
given a number and selected using a random number generator. Lists of all the inmates were
collected from the facilities and 10,000 male inmates were randomly selected to be surveyed.
They were selected by grouping the inmates by classification level (general population,
protective custody, and segregation). Each of these inmates were given a number and a random
number generator was utilized to randomly select participants. Stratified sampling was utilized
because it ensures that the researcher collect a more representative sample by using different
security level facilities and different custody levels of inmates as a sampling frame. The
participants were surveyed twice over a period of one year; the surveys were mailed out to the
facilities and were self administered to the participants. Participants had three weeks to complete
and mail the survey back to the research facility using the return envelope provided. The survey
response rate was sixty five percent of those surveyed and included

Critical Incidents Of Academic Institutions
Critical Incidents in Academic Institutions The critical incident technique is used to gather and
analyze an employees behavior through methods such as observation and interviews (Andersson
Nilsson,1964). This technique is useful in collecting information regarding behavior that amounts
to successful or unsuccessful in a performance (Peterson, Jeanneret, 2007). The procedures utilized
in the critical incident techniqueallows for the similarities, differences and patterns of behaviors to
be analyzed. This process aids in the solving of problems, and establishing principles (Hughes,
Williamson, Lloyd, 2007; Flanagan, 1954). According to Shapira Lishchinsky (2010), utilizing
critical incident reports in schools assist in enabling the management of errors, support and
autonomy, which in turn reduces ethical friction. In regard to the schoolsetting, critical incidents
include minor incidents that occur daily in schools. Because of the nature of the job, middle
school teachers can face critical incidents that involve both moral and ethical conflict (Shapira
Lishchinsky, 2010). However, the classification or weather it is negative or positive is based on
the meaning given by a teacher, observer, etc. Nonetheless, critical incidents and behaviors are
important to identify as it can be detrimental to a teachers professional career (Shapira Lishchinsky,
2010). One example of a positive critical incident for the middle school teacher is teachers who

Beloved Sethe Relationship
In the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison, the protagonist Sethe is a mother who cares almost too
much for her children. This trait seems to be her fatal flaw which develops into a conflict when
Sethe s once dead daughter Beloved reenters her life and begins to be draining force. Because of
Sethe s giving nature, Belovedtakes advantage of her mother physically, interpersonally, and
emotionally. Sethe relies heavily on her mothering instinct because she never had the mother
daughter connection when young, she also feels guilty for her rash actions in killing the infant

The Canadian Culture Essay
Culture can be defined as the behaviours and belief characteristics of a particular social, ethnic,
or age group. Every country has its own special way of life. Canada s in particular can be considered
unique because Canada is a cultural mosaic, which allows elements of many cultures to be
integrated
into one. Canada s culture has many influences because the numerous people who immigrate here
are
encouraged to keep their culture. These immigrants also teach the people they meet when they move
here about their own ways of life. Canada has a culture that is made up of many because of all the

country, the identity became separate from the UK. Although there were still British colonies, people
were free to start developing their own identity. The Canadian government policy has predominantly
been one of peace keeping. In the 1960s the United States started to become more violent, and
Canada
remained peaceful, people looked to Canada as a place to get away from violence ( Canada in the

2009). Canada is known worldwide for being peaceful, and is recognized for its peacekeeping
efforts in
war zones. Canada is of a handful of nations to which the United Nations can regularly turn to

word peace keeping was invented by the fourteenth Canadian Prime Minister, Lester B. Pearson

The geography of Canada affects our culture considerably. Canada is located north of the United

Nuclear Power And The Chernobyl Accident
Since the first commercial plant in the 1950s, the nuclear energy sector has increased steadily.
From generating 684 billion kilowatt hours worldwide in 1980, nuclear power accounted for
2,345 billion KWh in 2012 (World Bank, n.d.). While the Chernobyl accident in 1986 did not
trigger any decline in the global nuclear generated power in the following years, the Fukushima
accident in 2011 did. A drop of almost 200 billion KWh from 2011 to 2012 put a hold on the
previously roughly constant numbers. This decline is already visible in the 2011 data, as Japan
immediately ordered a shut down of all their 50 reactors, the last one in 2012 (Hong, Bradshaw,
Brook, May 2013). Today 31 countries operate 438 commercial nuclear powerplants (IAEA PRIS,
2015a). The following table shows the operating and under construction reactors in the world,

Art History And Its Impact On Art
Art history allows for a greater understanding of the progression of human thought and how
conditions from one time period to another are reflected in art. Humanity represents itself
through art and by doing so we are able to take a deeper look into the mentality and emotions that
were held within a certain time period. Human studies such as cultural studies or history only
highlight small specific areas of humanity while art history combines the two and gives a
comprehensive look into all factors that influenced not only the art of a certain time but the
events that influenced certain styles. Through the study of art history we are able to see the
different events that caused shifts in prospective and influenced changes in art styles. For
example the iconoclasm during the protestant reformation drastically altered the type of art that
was being produced and greatly limited forward progression of certain styles. All images of God,
Jesus, and any other paintings or sculptures that depicted images of false idols were destroyed or
removed from view. In ancient Egypt, the carved visages of some pharaohs were obliterated by
their successors. The destruction of art was used as a way to influence ideas through out a
community of people. By limiting the growth of art, the recorded history of Christianity was greatly
altered. Humanity is constantly changing and evolving in relation to its surroundings as viewed
through the study of art. Art is all encompassing of a multitude of

Scientists classify lemurs along with humans, apes, and monkeys, as being

Lemurs arrived in Madagascar fifty thousand years ago, when the island
was closer to Africa. The first humans arrived 2000 to 1500 years ago. They
hunted at least 18 of the larger species of lemurs to extinction! Ring tailed lemurs
are threatened in Madagascar because of habitat loss due to fires, overgrazing by
livestock, and tree cutting for charcoal production growth.

The Jfk Airport Is The Best And Worst Experience Of My Life
I grew up in a little, one red light town, where we have one festival a year that celebrates
blueberries, where playing in the mud is not an unusual thing, and where being barefoot is
almost normal. I live in the country. The country is my home. So, to think that I would ever end
up on a three week stay in a place where the horns never stop honking, the sirens never ceased to
exist, and the people are within arms distance all around you, would be crazy. I mean going to the
Big Apple , it is an insane idea. The only thing around here that s big is our barns. I believe that
going to New York Citywas the best and worst experience of my life. The plane ride was an
experience that I definitely enjoyed. It was my first time on a plane and, it just makes sense
because you get to a place in half the time and, it s also fun. The JFK airport is a whole
experience in itself. The airport is a mall, a restaurant, a spa, a liquor store, and many other
things all in one. Stepping out into the streets of New York is like stepping into altered universe.
The horns are screamed in your ear, the people are shuffling across the street before the orange
hand comes up to tell them to stop walking (I felt more like a pack mule crossing the street with
all the luggage I was carrying), and every one was frantically searching for the taxi they just
called. When you are riding in the taxi you can try to look out the windows to see the tops of the
buildings, but your eyes will never reach the top of

Societal Interpretations of Buddhism and Gender...
Societal Interpretations of Buddhism and Gender Inequality
The doctrine and basic values of Buddhism are based centrally in equality and provide equal
opportunity for both genders, and indeed all sentient beings, to attain enlightenment and the
realization of the true Buddha within. However, an interesting discrepancy within the Buddhist
traditions occurs in the societal interpretations of Buddhism and the resulting rules and regulations
that can show less than equal treatment and valuation of female members. As a religion that gives
strong support of logically and empirically constructed morals, it is worthwhile to note that many of
the societal views of women show a portrayal of the female that has not caught up with ... Show

The Buddha himself said that women were totally, indisputably capable of enlightenment. (325)
The inherent meaninglessness of gender has been stated by the Buddha himself, and this should
serve as a warning about the danger of falling into a trap of the ego. Discovering the inner
harmony and equality between all beings is a goal that can easily be waylaid when too much
importance is placed on the separate qualifications or strengths of the different genders. Ego, as we
have seen, is any stage of habitual patterns and responses that clouds over the clarity and openness
of basic human nature. (Gross 162, Buddhism after Patriarchy) Separating practitioners by gender
status can lead to this same type of ego duality. The separation of male and female is a pattern
repeated by society and if it enters the realm of the spiritual, as in this case, it is yet another
disillusion. The loss of the ego is intricately tied up in the renunciation of gender roles within
Buddhism. Every Buddhist practitioner, regardless of sex, should be on an initially even playing
field, according to the tenants of the Buddha.
Some central Buddhist beliefs, such as karma, have been used to justify the inequality of women s
status. Unfortunately this patriarchal view brings very bad karma for those who use this form of
justice , as they are simply supporting an

The Approach of U.S. Foreign Policy and Terrorism Essay
The Approach of U.S. Foreign Policy and Terrorism
U.S. foreign policy is plunging head first in its war on terrorism. Our focus is expanding and

terrorism, we are beginning to spread ourselves too thin. Therefore, we risk the danger of fighting
too many battles at once. Terrorism is a large issue that American foreignpolicy will not be able to

Recently, Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle voiced his concern over the direction the U.S. is

The war is beginning to be an excuse for the U.S. to go after its enemies. With the all encompassing
threat of terrorism, foreign policy is able to use play on words in order to have a justified reason to

better time to assert such force. Congress is generously agreeing to aid the war and the world s

Chlamydia Urethritis
Chlamydia is a bacterial sexually transmitted disease caused by the pathogen Chlamydia
trachomatis that can be found in the mucous membranes of the genital region, the throat, and the
eyes (Malhotra 2014). It is an obligate intracellular parasite that is gram negative and cocci. The
pathogen is mainly transmitted between sexual partners during sexual intercourse. However, if a
pregnant female is infected with the pathogen she can transmit it to her child during a vaginal
delivery with the baby passes through the mothers birth canal. Chlamydia trachomatis can cause

However, if symptoms do occur, they are often times nonspecific. Women may experience abnormal
vaginal discharge, dysuria, and post coital or intermenstrual bleeding. Men may experience urethral
discharge and occasionally experience symptoms of epididymo orchitis, which results in pain and
swelling of the epididymis and testis. Men and women both can experience rectal bleeding at the
infection site (Malhotra et al. 2013). Signs of a Chlamydia trachomatis infection can be seen
utilizing different nucleotide amplification tests that are highly specific and can be used for non
invasive specimens including urine and vulval swabs (Malhotra et al. 2013). If Chlamydia
trachomatis is left untreated, it can lead to chronic asymptomatic infection, which as a result can
lead to infertility in females. Chlamydia trachomatis can lead to chronic inflammation of the
Fallopian tubes in which the pathogen is present in the tubal lumen which contributes to infertility

Summary Of Fantasyland, How America Went Haywire
Author Kurt Anderson mostly blames a certain group of people in his book Fantasyland, How
America went Haywire. In a nutshell, Protestants are the problem. Anderson spends chapter after
chapter, starting with Martin Luther and continuing through American history of how Protestant
beliefs have been detrimental to America. In his view which comes across as snide and derisive,
they are the bane of American existence because they believe in magic and supernaturalthings and
have left most of reason behind. Anderson practically sneers (many words are in italics for
emphasis) when he writes of Protestants. Certainly, some Protestants may be gun nuts, and
preppers but not all. Most of my Protestant friends don t own a gun and they send their children to
public school. (Anderson is not a fan of homeschooling or private religious education).
I found Anderson to be one of those people who believes his way is the only way to live. He
chronicles that taking illegal drugs taught him character. This is a rather strange way to build
character, hard work and helping others is what I was taught by my baby boomer Protestant
parents. He lives in Brooklyn, I believe, and feels that the American s dream of a pastoral setting
(the suburbs ) has ruined the entire country. This is a great big land and not everyone wants to or
needs to live on top of each other in a city. Yes, Americans have many cars, but my husband and I
take public transportation to the city from our suburban home. The author

Understanding Inequalities Of London s Life Expectancy...
Understanding inequalities in London s life expectancy and healthy life expectancy is a document
that summarises data, that has been collected over various years, by the Public Health Outcomes
Framework (PHOF) in regards to life expectancy and inequalities (London Knowledge and
Intelligence Team. 2014).
The data within this document could be considered as a valid and reliable outlook into London s life
expectancy because it is a published document by Public Health England which is a health
organisation. The publisher is reputable and therefore it is deemed as being trustworthy (Public
Health England. 2013). Furthermore the information has been collected and analysed by
professionals. Validity of the document is reinforced as the data given does reflect life expectancy
within a given borough (Office For National Statistics. Unknown).
The information and statistics they have gathered are more than likely correct however there are
various factors that could have influenced the results. Average income within an area has been
gathered by tax authority records and is shown within the Slope Index , although people may be
guilty of tax avoidance or the answers they give may be false due to mistakes which could cause
the results to be considerably different to the reality (TaxAid. 2015). A census may also be
responsible for the data gathered, however a census is only conducted every ten years so the results
may change dramatically within that time span (Office For National

Tao Te Ching By Confucius
A Chun Tzu is primarily described as the ideal man of the society. It is a concept that can be
applied by any individual in the ordinariness of their daily lives. Confucius believes that a Chun Tzu
must have learned the principle sageliness within; kingliness without. And also, Confucius believes
that moralityor ethicsis a very important field of every man s study, for it gives humanity the
instructions on what they are ought to do as humanbeings, or as rational beings. Tao Te Ching is
about the harmony and flow of life and the necessity for affinity to it. This book is traditionally
attributed to Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu who is the true authorship of the Tao Te Ching. This

A Note On Macro, Micro Evolution There Is Important For...
First off, when talk about macro, micro evolution there is much falsehood about these two words,
but, understanding them is maybe the vital essential for comprehension the creation or
development issue. Macroevolution alludes to major developmental changes after some time, the
inception of new sorts of creatures from beforehand existing, yet distinctive, tribal sorts. On the
other hand, Microevolutionalludes to assortments inside of a given sort. Change happens inside of
a gathering, however the relative is unmistakably of the same sort as the precursor.
According to Berkeley.edu, Macroevolution generally refers to evolution above the species level.
So instead of focusing on an individual beetle species, a macroevolutionary lens might require
that we zoom out on the tree of life, to assess the diversity of the entire beetle clade and its
position on the tree. Macroevolution includes the most amazing patterns and changes in
development, for example, the beginning of warm blooded animals and the radiation of
blooming plants. Macro evolutionary examples are by and large what we see when we take a
gander at the substantial scale history of life. It is not as a matter of course simple to see macro
evolutionary history; there are no firsthand records to be perused. Rather, we reproduce the
historical backdrop of life utilizing all accessible confirmation: geography, fossils, and living beings.
Once we ve made sense of what transformative occasions have occurred, we

Comparing My Sister Ashleigh And I
My Sister Ashleigh and I
When I was growing up, we were a family of three siblings. I had one younger brother. And also I
had a sister, only a year younger than I was. Her name is Ashleigh. Our sister sister relationship is
unique, even though, we constantly change back and forth between loving and hating one another.
My sister and I have something in common; however, we are not similar in many ways.
To begin with, one thing which is common in me and Ashleigh is the lovefor cooking. During
leisure time I love to cook variety of dishes for my family and friends. One of the first reason that
I fell in love with cooking was that the food is the universal love language. People, no matter
who they are, need food to live. And everyone loves tasty food. For instance, nothing makes me
feel better than inviting my girlfriends around for an afternoon tea. I make them some healthy
cupcakes and some organic strawberries dipped in chocolate. We laugh, giggle, share stories and
enjoy food. Also, I have a lot of memories of Christmas evenings around the table with my family
enjoying delicious healthy meal. Likewise, my sister loves cooking. The reason behind her love
for cooking is that it makes her feel like a rock star. She makes tasty recipes which my mother and I
are not able to make. She believes that her cooked food has magic in it. For example, one
afternoon her boyfriend make home from work in a bad mood. She served him a tasty lamb

Functional Adult
It is a general belief of parenting and caretaking that we must protect children from all harm and
every negative circumstance no matter how naturally occurring from every scraped knee or
every mean word said by classmates. Many children in America have parents that cater to their
every need, give them constant attention, and fill their days with structured activity. This, of
course, is not the worst thing you can do for a young child, but as they get older and the long
term effects become clearer; this type of parenting can cause serious problems for their children s
futures. Perhaps even keep children from growing into successful adults and functioning members
of society. There comes a point in everyone s life when we no longer have our parents or
caretakers to hold our hand through the trials of life, and everyone should be moderately prepared
for that point. For the sake of this essay, I am loosely defining the term successful as functional,
independent, and resilient. Additionally, I would like to indicate that this argument is only relevant
to people born in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Surrealism And The Art Of Salvador Dali
Salvador Dali is one of the most famous surrealist artists. His artwork is fascinating to look at and
analyze. All of his work is very imaginative, rendered at a high level of realism, and is filled with
extensive symbolism. First I will talk about the history of Surrealism, then how Dali studied and
admired Sigmund Freuds theories which greatly influenced his art, he used Sigmund Freud s
psychoanalytic theory of dreaminterpretation to invent a technique for his work, and then using this
technique he painted his bizarre dreams.
Andre Breton founded the Surrealist movement in 1924 with his Manifesto of Surrealism which
argued that art can benefit from an understanding of the Freudian dreamscape. His definitions of
Surrealism were, Dictionary: Surrealism, n. Pure psychic automatism, by which one proposes to
express, either verbally, in writing, or by any other manner, the real functioning of thought.
Dictation of thought in the absence of all control exercised by reason, outside of all aesthetic and
moral preoccupation. Encyclopedia: Surrealism. Philosophy. Surrealism is based on the belief in
the superior reality of certain forms of previously neglected associations, in the omnipotence of
dream, in the disinterested play of thought. It tends to ruin once and for all other psychic
mechanisms and to substitute itself for them in solving all the principal problems of life (Breton,
1924).
This new Surrealist art movement wanted to break society from its traditions and be

China is a tough sell. Silvio relayed how the lessons learned in India are useful for selling into
China; yet he says the effort required is significantly greater than getting sales in India once
Schindler began customizing its elevators. He says there are successes in China but he thinks
companies are thinking it s much more painless than it really is. Don t take the alliance between
India and China lightly. Silvio sees this development as fundamentally re defining the region and
having global impact very quickly. An excellent analysis of the strategic impact of this
relationship has been written by Jairam Ramesh, a member of the Indian parliament, in the April
18th edition of the Wall Street Journal. The article is here, and you ll need Wall Street Journal
online access to retrieve it. You can find Jairam s Web site here. There s another very good article
on this alliance written by Paul McDougall of Information Week here. Bottom line: No amount of
process re definition could have saved Schindler the pains associated with attempting to move into
India with a low cost strategy. Fundamental assumptions about India just wanting low cost elevators
where customization wasn t a requirement took the effort of creating a subsidiary to learn from.

The Power And Influence On Our Lives
This theory helps explains how much of an influence the large corporations in our lives such as
Disney and Apple have on our day to day lives. These corporations run a majority of other
businesses in our lives that also have an influence in what we think and do. The importance of
this is theory is to show the power and influence that these corporations have on our daily lives
and how we think and feel. If the corporate industry were to fallout our lives would be greatly
impacted in more than one way.
Karl Marx, a sociologist, helped form Stanley Deetz outlook on the critical theory of communication

foundations off of the ideologies of the division of labor, fair labor treatment, and so forth. Consent

managerial interests in faulty attempt to fulfill their own. Many workers are taught to put their
work before their personal, mental and family health, as they turn into over working individuals
who are unable to focus on themselves. Marxism helped create the idea of division of labor and
equal treatment of workers. Marxism Focuses theoretical attention on processes through which state
institutions exercise power over economic ones, and away from the processes through which
organizations and organizational actors appropriate state power and shape political institutions for

How To Recruit Boy Scouts
Young men, from ages 11 to 18, in the Boy Scouts of America have the option to experience a trip
called Klondike. On this trip, various teams from each troop compete with their fellow scouts with
their mental abilities in a competitions of speed and skill. Every team must run with dog sleds
pulled by scouts, going to as many stations as possible to earn points on what they can do to
survive in certain scenarios with the skills and supplies they have in their sleds. The team with the
most points and as the quickest time wins the competition. These experiences prepare these young
men for future occupations and possible survival situations. Without these experiences and
knowledge one learns, many would be lost in these situations. Every young man should be required

The Impact Of The Boston Tea Party
The colonists were angry and furious, the King was taxing everything. Every new tax made the
colonist s mad and made the King money. Son s of Liberty had the tax collectors scared, so they
all agreed to stop taxing, but that s not what the king wanted. The King made them keep taxing the
tea only. The colonist s were still very upset with the tea tax. That is what leaded to the Boston Tea
party(the tea act). The Boston Tea Party had the best impact on the colonists towards fighting for
their Independence. From my opinion Britain could have made things fair for everyone, but the
King was selfish.
The colonist s were very upset with Britain, because they won t stop taxing, but once they did
stop they only taxed the tea. That was not good for the colonist s. As the taxing of tea was still
going on, people were getting more and more furious each day. We must fight, I repeat it,sir,we
must fight I know not what course others may pursue, but as for me, give me liberty or give me
death. Patrick Henry (The Revolutionary War,15). The Son s of Liberty finally came through to
help, they planned a little plan and if all goes well we may have no tea taxes for good. ... Show more

Language and Social Class in Demirciler
In the Life in a Turkish Village, Joe E. Pierce discusses the culture of the village, Demirciler,
located in Turkey. He studies the social structure, the religious practices, the political system, and
other aspects of this village s culture. In his ethnography, Pierce expounds on the societal
segregation of the men and women and its translation into social class. While the separation of both
genders is prominent in the societal practices, it is also reflected in their native tongue. To
demonstrate the relationship between language and social class, I will analyze and review how the
Turkish language of Demirciler is a linguistic representation of the social structure with a thorough
examination of the societal practices and a semantic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This hypothesis can be applied to the native tongue of Demirciler. In the Turkish language,
Pierce notes, Men and women are labeled differently for relatives older than ego, but not for those
younger (Pierce 81). Ego s uncles of his father s lineage are referred to as amca and Ego s aunts of
his father s lineage are referred to as hala. Ego s uncles of his mother s lineage are called dayz,
while aunt s on his mother s side are called teyze (Pierce 80). Ego s grandfathers are both referred
to as dede and his grandmothers are both called ebe. Because these kin terms individually identify
the male and female members of the family readers gain insight into the citizens perspective and
can comprehend their view on the social status of men and women. This kinship terminology also
illustrates that social status is defined by not only sex, but age as well. While males and females
have different kin terms, this only applies to members of an older generation. The gender of young
children is not specified in the Turkish language; there is one term used to identify young
children: kardes. If Ego had older brothers and sisters, they would be recognized by separate
terms, however, if Ego had younger siblings they would be labeled by the same kin term. Pierce

Theodore Roosevelt s The Duties of American Citizenship Speech
Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th President of the United States of America. He is noted for his
enthusiastic personality, range of interests and achievements, and his leadership of the
Progressive Movement. Before becoming President, he held offices at the city, state, and federal
levels. Roosevelt s achievements as a naturalist, explorer, hunter, author, and soldier are as much
a part of his fame as any office he held as a politician. On January 26, 1883 in Buffalo, New York
Roosevelt delivered a speech that reveals his ideas of what an ideal citizen is and what his role in
the community should be. President Roosevelt s ideas of citizenship in 1883 are different from the

The good citizen will education his family and his community by being a role model and
preforming his civic duties. Roosevelt shapes his ideas of citizenship around how a man treats
the people around him which impacts the entire community. Roosevelt s ideal citizen focuses
more on the lived experience of a man and his actions in community which reflect on public
engagement. President Roosevelt focuses more on the individual person and he gives examples
of how a good citizen should be because that one person has the power to impact more than just
his self. Roosevelt says, In a free republic the ideal citizen must be one willing and able to take
arms for the defense of the flag, exactly as the ideal citizen must be the father of many healthy
children. Although the same expectations are felt in Roosevelt s time and today, Roosevelt puts
more emphasis on it because the educational advantages are present. President Roosevelt believes
a good citizen with strong moral character will raise strong children and teach them the values he
was taught. He says, A race must be strong and vigorous; it must be a race of good fighters and
good breeders, else its wisdom will come to naught and its virtue be ineffective. President Roosevelt
is saying without the teachings of good citizenship in the home, future generations will lose the true
meaning of citizenship. All of Roosevelt s characteristics of the good citizen involve education. A

it does not contain a roller coaster. What makes these roller coasters so fun that every amuse
parks has one. A lot of people would say it is their extreme high speeds that makes it very
exciting. That is a valid answer, but it is the wrong answer. The speed has nothing to do with the
excitement. It is more than likely that most people travel faster on their ride along the highway on
the way to the amusement park than they would in a roller coaster. Basically the thrill all comes

rider, then a downward moving rider, before finally becoming a rightward moving rider once

speed. As the rider begins to climb upward the loop, he/she begins to slow down. What we talked
about suggests that an increase in height results in a decrease in kinetic energy and speed and a
decrease in height results in an increase in kinetic energy and speed. So the rider experiences the
greatest speeds at the bottom of the loop. The change in speed as the rider moves through the
loop is the second part of acceleration which the riders experiences. A rider who moves through a
circular loop with a constant speed, the acceleration is centripetal and towards the center of the
circle. In this case of a rider moving through a noncircular loop at non constant speed, the
acceleration of the rider has two components. There is a component which is directed towards the
center of the circle (ac) and relates itself to the direction change and the other component is directed

For example, sometimes it takes courage to go up in front of the classroom and talk or present in front of everyone because they get nervous or they are shy to go up and talk to everyone. In the book The View from Saturday by E.L Konigsburg there are many people that had courageand they were very brave. In The View from Saturday there are many people that have courage. For example, Ethan had courage when he went to Julian s tea party and gave Julian a pink heart shaped puzzle. • 5. Act Two Scene One in The Taming of the Shrew Essay Act Two Scene One in The Taming of the Shrew The scene that I will be analysing in this piece of coursework, Act two Scene one, is an important scene in the play as a whole as it is the first time that we see the two main characters together. The characters Petruchio and Katherina have been developed separately until now; the audience has noticed similarities in their personalities such as use of physical strength and good use of words. We know that Petruchio is set to woo Katherine and all the tension that has been building up in anticipation of their meeting is about to be released. This scene contains a soliloquy from Petruchio in which he tells us about his plan to tame Katherina, this is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows that Bianca is trying to stand up to Katherina, but in response to this she is struck by her sister, once again showing Katherina s inclination to use physical violence whenever possible. Although we should be feeling sympathetic towards Bianca at this stage, we can t help but sympathise for Katherina also. There is obviously a reason for this behaviour and although she denies it maybe Katherina is subconsciously envious of Bianca and maybe has a desire to be married herself, even if she doesn t know it yet. Bianca s line: So well I know my duties to my elders Seems smug, this is her way of tormenting Katherina suggesting she is irregular for not conforming to the expectations of society. When Baptista, her father enters we see him rush to Bianca s aid, he does not even ask for Katherina s reasoning for tying up her sister but reprimands her anyway: Thou hilding of a devilish spirit Again we can sympathise for Katherina as her father is calling her a good for nothing devil. This shows us Baptista s preference towards Bianca which is understandable for those times when women were always ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Abstract: In the Last Decade advancements in information and communication Technologies (ICT) has provided solutions to the problems in health care managements system ICTs. It has the possibility to massively contribute to improving access and quality of services while containing costs. Improving health involves improving public health and medical programs designed to provide elective, emergency, and long term clinical care; educating people; improving nutrition and hygiene; and providing more sanitary living conditions. It also has the potential to lead to better cost efficiency in the health sector. ICT can play a critical role in improving health care for individuals and communities. It can also transform informal regulation by providing people with the knowledge they require to challenge existing practices and make more rational health care choices (Adeboyejo and Olatokun, 2009). Patients are empowered to take more responsibility for their health and quality of life through the use of health ICT. Health ICT allows the collaboration and involvement of patients and healthcare providers in the prevention and treatment of common illnesses. Through the development of databases and other applications, health ICT provides new and more efficient ways of accessing, communicating, and storing information. Hence, it ensures top quality healthcare services for patients. Evidence Based Medicine: The role of Health ICT within the Health Sector Adopting and implementing a health ICT system is a major organizational commitment that may possibly last health care providers for several years. In order to take full advantage of such systems, providers are required to redesign the way they practice medicine (Congressional Budget Office, 2008). Health ICT is offering the health care sector a fresh domain known as evidence based medicine (EBM). EBM marks a shift within the health care sector from a traditional practice which emphasis on clinical authoritative opinions, to an emphasis on data ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Compare And Contrast Mindfulness And Existential Psychology In this assignment I will be comparing two approaches used to understand fear and sadness and how therapists work with clients. I will summarise both the existential psychology approach and the mindfulness approach and how they work with helping understand fear and sadness. I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both of these approaches, and why either one could be considered as favourable. I will then conclude the essay with which method I m more drawn too, and with the resources and evidence available to me I will explain why. Existential psychotherapy is a philosophical method of therapy that focuses on helping clients to learn to live well in the face of the inevitable adversity and uncertainty of life itself , (Langdridge, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mindfulness has been an integral part of Buddhism for 2500 years. Mindfulness has the intention to accept and be non judgmental, but rather to focus your attention on the emotions, thoughts and sensations happening at the present moment. For example have you ever been driving somewhere and got to your destination only to realise you can t remember anything about your journey? The practice of mindfulness is experiencing what we are going through right now without attaching a load of past baggage to it, or trying to figure out ways to make it different , (Barker, p.177). When practised, mindfulness helps you stay in the present moment, not to drift of in your mind about past experiences, as this can build up your anxieties and fears and make things seem worse than they are. Mindfulness meditation can become a mental position for being able to separate a given experience from an associated emotion, and can help facilitate a skilful or mindful response to a specific situation. Meditation starts with introducing body focussed mindfulness of the breath. This involves noticing the body sensations associated with breath and breathing which in turn, when practised, allows thoughts, feelings, emotions to emerge, and it can feel such a relief not to have to fight with them to get rid of them, understand that they could just be ... Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin in 1945, to discuss post world war Europe and to divide the power of Germany among themselves. At this conference Franklin D. Roosevelt FDR , would give the U.S.S.R power that would lead to them becoming a super power and thus creating a catullus of events. The power FDR gave the U.S.S.R during the Yalta conferencehad a domino effect of good and bad for both countries. After the U.S dropped the bomb on Japan the U.S.S.R started its plan to create the bomb too. Not long after the U.S dropped the bomb the U.S.S.R created their first nuclear bomb, igniting the nuclear arms race with the U.S and starting the cold war as told by the American Museum of Natural History Initially, only the United States possessed atomic weapons, but in 1949 the Soviet Union exploded an atomic and the arms race began. The U.S.S.R began its nuclear project to create a nuclear bomb to compete with the United States and not fall behind them in the cold war and to try and to become the superior power. The reason that the U.S.S.R felt the need to compete with the United States because after the power they gained during the Yalta conference they became a large super power and the United States was the only other country big enough to compete with the Soviets. The Soviets wanted control of west Berlin so that they could have all of eastern Europe so they blocked off all ways into west Berlin in a plan to not only compete but try to run the United States out of west Berlin to try and get an upper hand in the cold war and in the at the time possible war between the U.S.S.R and the United States. On the west campus there is only one parking garage and there are not enough spaces for all of the students to park. Some students spend a lot of time circling around looking for a parking space. There is street parking, but students feel that they should not have to pay for parking. In order to get a parking spot, I have to arrive at around 8:00 AM even if my class isn t even until late morning. So to fit more cars into a small space there are lifts. One kind of lift is called the Robotic Parking System. It enables parking from several hundred cars to several thousand in half the amount of space. A person would drive their car into the parking terminal, and sensors would ensure that the car was placed correctly. The driver would exit the vehicle, lock the doors and take a parking card from the kiosk. A computer system then lifts the car and places it on a shelving system. When one is ready to leave they place their parking card into a kiosk and the system locates their car and brings it down. The screen then displays where the driver can pick up their car. This also insures safe parking since it is impossible for someone to break and steal your car. An additional option that is probably the least expensive would be for students to park in parking garages in downtown Silver Spring. Shuttles buses could be provided by the College to pick up students from the garage and at the end of the day the shuttle could bring the students back to their cars. No solution goes without having its issues, whether it is structural, financial or aesthetic. Some of the solutions to expand the parking are more reasonable, while some will cost a pretty penny. Faouzi NOURI GIRONES CIT 071807 Compare and contrast traditional and modern families Since the nineteenth century, in the western societies, family patterns changed under the forces of industrialisation and urbanisation. Another factor which has been involved in those changes is the growing intervention of the state, by legislative action, in the domestic affairs of the family. As a result of these trends, the modern nuclear family has been substituted for the traditional extended family. The increase of values such as individualism and egalitarism has influenced the patterns of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, in the traditional families the mother usually bore the sole responsibility of the child caring. Modern parents now share this responsibility together because of social and work constraints. However, holidays which are not common in the traditional family, allow them to spend quality time with their children. Moreover in many modern families the father becomes a house worker, to provide for the needs of his children. As the statistics shown in the United Kingdom in 2001, 155 000 fathers were stay home husbands. All in all, the emphasis on nurturing children can be seen in traditional and modern families, alike. Apart from the similarities mentioned above, traditional and modern families have several differences in the areas of family size and gender roles. One major difference between the traditional and modern family is the decrease in family size. The traditional family tends to be extended with three or more generations in the same household because it provides a strong union between its members. Another reason for a large household is that usually farming was the principal economic activity of the family 1 members. Psychological Adjustments for Hirschsprung’s Disease Hirschsprung Disease Occurring once in approximately 5000 live births, Hirschsprung disease is a congenital abnormality characterized by the absence of autonomic parasympathetic ganglion cells in the colon preventing peristalsis and resulting in intestinal obstruction and abdominal distension. Also known as congenital aganglionic megacolon, this medical malady is an unfortunate anomaly of a very vulnerable population infants and children. Hirschsprung disease can occur in otherwise healthy babies, but is commonly diagnosed in combination with Down s syndrome and congenital heart defects. Functional outcomes, thanks to contemporary medical advances, are generally successful. As medical professionals, nurses play a significant role in helping patients achieve therapeutic goals. Therapeutic goals also include a level of psychological wellness in living with persistent bowel dysfunction after Hirschsprung surgery but few, if any, studies have addressed this likelihood. Focusing on the results after definitive surgical repair of Hirschsprung disease, the journal article, An example of psychological adjustment in chronic illness: Hirschsprung s disease by Athanasakos, Starling, Ross, Nunn, and Cass, identifies outcomes in terms of psychiatric health. The primary aim of this study was to report overall outcomes after Hirschsprung surgery and to address the impact of the disease on the optimism for a normal life. • 15. Satire In Greek Comedy Satirical methods have been introduced since the beginning of history as a form of entertainment and a way to get a message across. This is demonstrated through Greek comedies in particular. Greek comedies were typically written to address the common people of that area through actions and words that they would find humorous. Not much has changed today. Comedy and satirical methods are still present and continue to hold a place in current society. The Acharniansis a clear example of an ancient Greek play that uses satireto relay a message, and The Word: Armistice is a news broadcast that plays as evidence that satirical methods used in the past are still present today. Both hold many similarities, and their differences reveal how much society and satire have changed throughout the years. The Acharnians is a satirical, ancient Greek play by playwright Aristophanes demonstrating a main theme of peace. The play is set during the Peloponnesian war which was primarily fought between Sparta and Athens. Dicaeopolis, the protagonist of the play who yearns for peace, impatiently waits for an assembly to begin and will only stand for speeches that speak of creating peace. However, the general assembly and Athenians are not interested in creating peace. At the assembly, Dicaeopolis meets Amphitheus who claims to be an immortal god. Amphitheus gives him a private peace treaty with Sparta in exchange for eight drachmas. Throughout the play, Dicaepolis is showered with luxurious belongings due to private trade with the enemies of Athens while Lamachus, a belligerent war hero, is living in terrible conditions due to war. Dicaepolis convinces the chorus, or common people of the play that maybe war isn t worth the suffering it brings and that Athenians share more similarities with the people of Sparta than originally thought of. As a result of this, Dicaepolis is celebrated as a hero at the end of the play. Playwright Aristophanes uses a series of satirical methods to present his theme of peace throughout The Acharnians. He makes fun of the citizens of Athens and the Athenian government for their pugnacious methods in war with Sparta and other nations. • 18. Comparing Checks And Balances Of The Executive And A Prime... President is elected by the voters, while the head of state in a parliament generally Prime Minister is elected by the legislature. The difference seems small, but it ends up making a world of difference. The US prides itself on separation of powers the legislature makes the laws, and the executive executes them. They provide checks and balances on each other, ensuring that neither one gets too powerful. Either one can work, though. There are many countries with parliaments, and the executive doesn t run away with power. The parliament itself is still subject to the checks of the voters: voters unhappy with the performance of the executive will take it out on the executive s party. That even gives an opportunity for a third party to arise, for voters who don t want to switch to the opposite party. The next executive is chosen in the parliament based on negotiations between the third party and the two major parties. That s happening in the UK right now, where the Liberal Democratic party is in an unlikely coalition with the Conservative party, after voters abandoned an unpopular Labor Party. • 19. Analysis Of Franklin Delano Roosevelt Signed Into Law Following his election in 1933, Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed into law something radical for its time: The Social Security Act. This act changed America s economic landscape completely, by minimizing the long existing problem of retirees and the elderly living below the poverty line. Simply put, Social Securityis a way to guarantee that older people, namely retirees, have at least a minimal source of income in their later years, by providing around 40 percent of the average person s yearly income. Social Security both is and functions as a defined benefit plan, wherein benefits are decided by the amount of quarters than a person works, and are decided by a sliding scale with caps (United States). As directed by the sliding scale, per dollar benefits are much higher for people of lower incomes, while overall benefit amounts are higher for those of higher incomes (Benefit). Both the scale and the caps are adjusted yearly according to inflation. Social Security accumulates its funds into a trust fund, and puts excess money into investments in US Treasury Securities, where interest is accumulated and put back into the fund. Social Security s benefits are not affected by the investments. Since 1982, the Social Security trust fund has experienced a net increase and in 2015, the asset reserves sit at 2.8 trillion dollars (Financial). • 20. The Human Body And Mind Essay A Picture as I see it. The human brain is an amazing phenomenon. It is arguably the most important organ in the human body. True, the heart does pump blood through our veins to transport oxygen from our lungs to the tissues in our body so we may live, but, without the core of our central nervous system (the Bain) to regulate the heartbeat, breathing, sight, sensations, hearing and many other functions that our body s perform every moment of our lives, we would die. Look at the brain as a computer motherboard, it is programed to tell our body what to do when to do it through thought or instinct. In order for the brain to tell our body s exactly how to react to a situation it first must know what is going on. This is accomplished throughout the body by Sensation and Perception. To show how this process works in the human body and mind, I will choose a painting that I have never seen before and describe how my mind processes this information and relays it to the rest of my body to get either an emotional or physical reaction. I will also describe how writing this paper has affected my perception on critical thinking. First let us start by defining Sensation and Perception. Sensation is the retrieval process of stimulus from the outside the human body (King, L.A. (2016). Experience psychology. (3rd ed). New York: McGraw Hill). Perception as also defined by (King, L.A. With all the disease it is hard to choose which one is the best to learn. One disease that is very fascinating is Peptic Ulcer Disease. A Peptic Ulcer is a sore on the lining of the stomach or duodenum caused by Helicobacter pylori, which is a spiral shaped bacterium that is found in the gastric mucous layer of the stomach, or NSAIDs. There is multiple things to learn about a Peptic Ulcer: the history of one, what causes it, who can mostly get it, diagnosis, treatments, and prevention. Then later on in the 20th century gastric acid was blamed for causing ulcers. So then treatment changed to antacids and medication that stopped gastric acid. In 1982 Robin Warren and Barry Marshall identified that Helicobacter pylori and ulcers were connected to each other. People did not accept their findings. People still believed it was stress, diet, or gastric acid that caused the ulcers. Many years later in 1994, A National Institutes of Health Consensus Development Conference concluded that Helicobacter pylori was strongly related to ulcers and that the bacterium Helicobacter pylori could be treated with antibiotics. • 29. Art History And Its Impact On Art Art history allows for a greater understanding of the progression of human thought and how conditions from one time period to another are reflected in art. Humanity represents itself through art and by doing so we are able to take a deeper look into the mentality and emotions that were held within a certain time period. Human studies such as cultural studies or history only highlight small specific areas of humanity while art history combines the two and gives a comprehensive look into all factors that influenced not only the art of a certain time but the events that influenced certain styles. Through the study of art history we are able to see the different events that caused shifts in prospective and influenced changes in art styles. For example the iconoclasm during the protestant reformation drastically altered the type of art that was being produced and greatly limited forward progression of certain styles. All images of God, Jesus, and any other paintings or sculptures that depicted images of false idols were destroyed or removed from view. In ancient Egypt, the carved visages of some pharaohs were obliterated by their successors. The destruction of art was used as a way to influence ideas through out a community of people. By limiting the growth of art, the recorded history of Christianity was greatly altered. Ego, as we have seen, is any stage of habitual patterns and responses that clouds over the clarity and openness of basic human nature. In a nutshell, Protestants are the problem. Anderson spends chapter after chapter, starting with Martin Luther and continuing through American history of how Protestant beliefs have been detrimental to America. In his view which comes across as snide and derisive, they are the bane of American existence because they believe in magic and supernaturalthings and have left most of reason behind. Anderson practically sneers (many words are in italics for emphasis) when he writes of Protestants. Certainly, some Protestants may be gun nuts, and preppers but not all. Most of my Protestant friends don t own a gun and they send their children to public school. (Anderson is not a fan of homeschooling or private religious education). I found Anderson to be one of those people who believes his way is the only way to live. He chronicles that taking illegal drugs taught him character. This is a rather strange way to build character, hard work and helping others is what I was taught by my baby boomer Protestant parents. He lives in Brooklyn, I believe, and feels that the American s dream of a pastoral setting (the suburbs ) has ruined the entire country. Andre Breton founded the Surrealist movement in 1924 with his Manifesto of Surrealism which argued that art can benefit from an understanding of the Freudian dreamscape. In the Turkish language, Pierce notes, Men and women are labeled differently for relatives older than ego, but not for those younger (Pierce 81). Ego s uncles of his father s lineage are referred to as amca and Ego s aunts of his father s lineage are referred to as hala. Ego s uncles of his mother s lineage are called dayz, while aunt s on his mother s side are called teyze (Pierce 80). Ego s grandfathers are both referred to as dede and his grandmothers are both called ebe. Because these kin terms individually identify the male and female members of the family readers gain insight into the citizens perspective and can comprehend their view on the social status of men and women. This kinship terminology also illustrates that social status is defined by not only sex, but age as well. While males and females have different kin terms, this only applies to members of an older generation. The gender of young children is not specified in the Turkish language; there is one term used to identify young children: kardes. If Ego had older brothers and sisters, they would be recognized by separate terms, however, if Ego had younger siblings they would be labeled by the same kin term. Pierce sates, The kinship terms illustrate . . . the sharp distinction between males and females as well as the sharp ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He is noted for his enthusiastic personality, range of interests and achievements, and his leadership of the Progressive Movement. Before becoming President, he held offices at the city, state, and federal levels. Roosevelt s achievements as a naturalist, explorer, hunter, author, and soldier are as much a part of his fame as any office he held as a politician. On January 26, 1883 in Buffalo, New York Roosevelt delivered a speech that reveals his ideas of what an ideal citizen is and what his role in the community should be. President Roosevelt s ideas of citizenship in 1883 are different from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The good citizen will education his family and his community by being a role model and preforming his civic duties. Roosevelt shapes his ideas of citizenship around how a man treats the people around him which impacts the entire community. Roosevelt s ideal citizen focuses more on the lived experience of a man and his actions in community which reflect on public engagement. President Roosevelt focuses more on the individual person and he gives examples of how a good citizen should be because that one person has the power to impact more than just his self. Roosevelt says, In a free republic the ideal citizen must be one willing and able to take arms for the defense of the flag, exactly as the ideal citizen must be the father of many healthy children. Although the same expectations are felt in Roosevelt s time and today, Roosevelt puts more emphasis on it because the educational advantages are present. President Roosevelt believes a good citizen with strong moral character will raise strong children and teach them the values he was taught. He says, A race must be strong and vigorous; it must be a race of good fighters and good breeders, else its wisdom will come to naught and its virtue be ineffective. President Roosevelt is saying without the teachings of good citizenship in the home, future generations will lose the true meaning of citizenship. • 58. Roller Coaster Physics Individuals love to go to the amusement parks and try out the rides that are available. The most common and thrilling ride is the roller coaster. An amusement park is not an amusement park if it does not contain a roller coaster. What makes these roller coasters so fun that every amuse parks has one. A lot of people would say it is their extreme high speeds that makes it very exciting. That is a valid answer, but it is the wrong answer. The speed has nothing to do with the excitement. It is more than likely that most people travel faster on their ride along the highway on the way to the amusement park than they would in a roller coaster. Basically the thrill all comes from the acceleration and the feeling of weightlessness that they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A rightward moving rider gradually becomes an upward moving rider, then a leftward moving rider, then a downward moving rider, before finally becoming a rightward moving rider once again. There is a continuing change in the direction of the rider as he/she will moves through the clothoid loop. A change in direction is one thing of an accelerating object. The rider also changes speed. As the rider begins to climb upward the loop, he/she begins to slow down. What we talked about suggests that an increase in height results in a decrease in kinetic energy and speed and a decrease in height results in an increase in kinetic energy and speed. So the rider experiences the greatest speeds at the bottom of the loop. The change in speed as the rider moves through the loop is the second part of acceleration which the riders experiences. A rider who moves through a circular loop with a constant speed, the acceleration is centripetal and towards the center of the circle. In this case of a rider moving through a noncircular loop at non constant speed, the acceleration of the rider has two components. There is a component which is directed towards the center of the circle (ac) and relates itself to the direction change and the other component is directed tangent (at) to the track and relates itself to the car s change in speed. This tangential component would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
