Radar The Proliferation Of Location Based Services Essay
Abstract The proliferation of Location Based Services
(LBSs) and Geo Social Networks (GSNs) significantly increase the exposure risks of location
information leading to leakage of sensitive information. Location privacy preserving methods
are designed to provide a specified level of privacy based on some pre defined privacy
guarantees such as k anonymity and e differential privacy. In certain situations, we note that users
would need different privacy protection levels based on their relationships and trust associated
with the users of the exposed location data. For instance, users of a location based social network
may need a smaller privacy protection level in interaction with their close friends and a larger
privacy protection level in relationship with public users. In this paper, we present a privacy aware
access control model that provides different location privacy protection levels based on various
access control list of users. The proposed privacy preserving access control model not only
preserves the confidentiality of access control policy but also provides an efficient mechanism for
grant and revoke of authorizations.

Patriotism and Its Meaning Essay
Patriotism and Its Meaning
In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States we are seeing
many forms of Patriotism. I was suprised to find when I researched this word that it had a negative
feeling associated with it. I believe that patriotism is actively showing your support for your
country, standing up for what you believe in, and fighting for our individual free will and
independence.
I am proud of my country and I am not ashamed to fly the American Flag. Many men and women
have died to give me the freedoms that I take for granted. I applaud their patriotism, and I thank
them for giving me my way of life. I will support them in protecting my country. I will try to elect
officials who believe in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I hope that you, as an American citizen will learn about your government and actively support it, by
voting, writing your congressmen, and making a difference for peace.
In standing up for what I believe in, I will not be ignorant of other people. I can be assertive in
my beliefs without trying to impose them on my fellow citizens. America stands for diversity and
to have patriotism to her is to believe that all people have a right to believe in thier own system of
values. I do not agree with Emma Goldman, who stated: Patriotism assumes that our globe is
divided into little spots, each one surrounded by an iron gate. Those who had the fortune of being
born on some particular spot, consider themselves better, nobler, grander, more intelligent then the
living beings inhabited by any other spot. It is therefore, the duty of everyone living on that chosen
spot to fight, kill and die in the attempt to impose his superiority upon all others. On the contrary,
patriotism stands for fighting for everyone to have the same freedom that I do.
We did not ask for terrorist to attack our country, but it is our duty to defend her, not blindly as
people would say we do, but earnestly keeping the good of all in mind. Richard Maybury, author
of Early Warning Report, wrote: The only thing I would be willing to die for is my home and
family; I would do what ever it takes to repel an invader, to protect my homeland. When I am
deciding what I think of a U.S. military operation in

Where Is The Love Rhetorical Devices
Music is a medium in which people can express their feelings, as well as get many strong
messages across efficiently. What s wrong with the world mama, people livin like they ain t got
no mamas. The song Where Is The Love , by the Black Eyed Peas starts with an audience attention
grabbing question making the listener think of something going on with the world today. Even
thought this song was released eleven years ago in 2003, it is still relevant with what is going on
currently. The Black Eyed Peasare known for being a mainstream hip hop dance group. With the
song Where Is The Love , they question everyone s ideologies regarding prejudice, and outlet their
feelings towards racism, war, intolerance, greed, United States politics, terrorism,... Show more

In the song Where Is The Love? by the Black Eyed Peas, the artist never gives a statistic with
numbers, but instead just describes the things that are actually going on in the United States.
They talk about the corrupt CIA, the Bloods, the Crips, and the Ku Klux Klan. Due to the text
being a song, there are no actual images, but I believe that the song creates images in the listener
s mind as he or she is listening to it. In the lyrics, the Black Eyed Peas say People killin , people
dyin , children hurt and you hear them cryin , can you practice what you preach and turn the
other cheek? I believe that this lyric creates the image of children crying, people killing others,
and also the image of what is wanted, peace. The Black Eyed Peas also once again refer to
something that actually happened when they say Nations droppin bombs, chemical gasses fillin
the lungs of little ones , even though there is not an actual statistic of how many young children
were effected by bombs, they still refer to the event happening. In a way, you could see the song
as a cause an effect statement. Because there is no peace in the world, people are dying,
countries are at war, and young, innocent children are losing their lives. Even though it is
impossible to tell what will happen in the world if the love was more prevalent, it seems as if the
Black Eyed Peas definitely believe that

How The President Controls Foreign Relations
The president of the United States has many responsabilities like being the commander and chief
of the armed forces and the Chief Diplomat. Over the years the presdients job has gotten harder
every year starting with the expansion with the U.S and now having foreign relations. The
president however doesn t do all the work. The Judicial Branch created federal courts and
impeaches and removes judges and the legislative branch proposes laws and calls special sessions
to congess. The main 3 things that the presidentdoes that are the most important, he controlls
foreign relations, he makes more executive departments, and he controls what happens around the
country. To begin, the president controls the foreign relations around the country. There

The Integumentary System
My discussion paper for the Integumentary System was on Vitiligo. In this article, 75 people
participated in a clinical study to develop self help for social anxiety associated with vitiligo.
Vitiligo is a skin disorder from the destruction of melanin producing cells that produce white
patches on the skin. The point of this study was to see if assisting in teaching self help intervention
could reduce the psychological distress caused from this disease like social anxiety, anxiety and
depression. The participants were emailed self help leaflets, which was a part of an intervention,
which discussed psychoeducation, relaxation and attentional refocusing. The first part of the
Intervention was asking a series of questions before they were offered

Reasons For The Compromise Of 1877 Dbq
The Compromise of 1877 has received different opinions on whether it was right, wrong, or
necessary, seeing as how some of its effects lasted decades after , but what if it had never
occurred? Would the United States be where it is today if not for that crucial compromise? Nobody
knows, but by the way it caused the end of reconstruction, America should be thankful it did. The
reconstruction era of the United Statesof America started after the end of the civil war. This period
of time was devoted to helping the battle worn South rebuild its broken cities, governments, and
economies. Unfortunately, some southern states saw the reconstruction effort as only a way to help
recently freed slaves gain equal rights, of which most whites disapproved.... Show more content on

Unfortunately, the Republican party wished for their own party to win the office. Though the
Southern people may have wanted a Democrat in office, the Democratic party had its eyes set
upon Home Rule . They could finally have members of their own party governing their own
states unlike during reconstruction when Republicans were put in office in Southern states. In
order for the Republicans to obtain the presidency, the Republicans and Democrats had to agree
to a compromise that would satisfy both parties along with helping the Democrats out of their
governmental and economic slump. The presidency was given to Rutherford B. Hayes, and the
Republican party once again had control of the government. Some Democrats tried to pull
Hayes out of office by criminally charging him with fraudulently winning the election.
Regrettably, this did not go as planned and only unified the Republican party which stood firmly
behind Hayes. Though Hayes was a Republican, his policies sometimes opposed the Republican
party. Hayes saw that the United States government had been corrupted by patronage which had
been used by state and federal lawmakers to keep themselves in office in return for different
favors to cities or companies. When President Hayes confronted this issue saying, Now for civil
service reform. We must limit and narrow the area of patronage , most politicians of the
Republican party opposed him. Calling for civil service reform to take the place of patronage
would mean, politicians and lawmakers would be chosen by how they performed in politics rather
than being chosen because they knew a politician who could give them the opportunity to come into
politics. Although civil service reform was not enacted during the Hayes administration, only two
presidents later Chester Arthur, a man whom Hayes had dismissed from office due

Argumentative Essay On Santa Clauses
Santa Claus is one of the top searches topic on Google during the month of December. So who is
Santa Claus and why is he so important one may ask. Santa Claus is supposedly a kind and loving
mythical figure who deliver presents to good children all over the world on Christmas Eve (24th
December). There are many theories and stories explaining the existence of Santa, but the most
typical question is, does he exist? Would it be possible that Santa Clausis just an ordinary man who

With all the definitions above it is still impossible to completely understand the situation of
Kaplan with his daughter s statement. The belief of Ari cancels out the statement abundantly;
thus, making it a paradox statement. The reason for this is due to the statement and the situation,
even though both of the statements are true, they cannot be true at the same time, in other words
it is self contradictory. It is such a great irony that the attention grabbing sentence of Kaplan s
daughter leads to no further discussion in the book; nonetheless, the same theories Kaplan uses
to explain the existence of Santa can too be useful to unlocking the paradoxical sentence. It is
not surprising to find a paradox statement or situation as the world itself it full of paradox.
Applying Kaplan s ideas and theories to the statement can assist the situation of the paradoxical
statement; hence the idea of the existence of Santa is no different. By treating and relating
Kaplan s method in elucidating kid and believe is then possible. The idea of paradox is standard

A good opportunities in order to increase sales and even create more awareness, could be to make it
available to order a delivery of some kinds of cakes, bread etc. for a event. It could be big events, or
even small events such that aren t close to Lagkagehuset bakery.
Since it s becoming more and more a norm to order food, luxuries and other products online,
Lagkagehuset could expand their strategies by developing an online store on their webpage. This
would be the same way of ordering a delivery as the opportunity as above, just different, since its
not for an special event but rather just for breakfast a morning where the consumer wouldn t want
to go outside and purchase the bread, cakes and so on themselves. This would make them even
more differentiated on the market and could appeal to more customers.

It s hard to determine what technological influences there is on Lagkagehuset, however if they
were to establish a better administrative system, in order to organize their regular and continuous
deliveries, it could benefit them in the long run. A more advanced system always contributes to
every industry or company, and it would to Lagkagehuset as well. This, however, wouldn t have to

The Benefits Of Less Homework
More than 70% of students said they were often or always stressed over homework (Stanford
Research). Many students are experiencing stress because of homework. When teachers give out
excessive amounts of homework it causes students to be stressed, reduces the amount of free time
they have, and it makes their practice less effective. Students receive many homeworkassignments
from multiple teachers everyday. The amount of homework students receive should be reduced,
because it will reduce stress, give the students free time, and help them to have more effective
practice. Excessive amounts of homework puts stress on students, and can lead to healthissues.
When homework is loaded onto a student every night in each class, they can become quite
overwhelmed. When students have anxietyand stress, their schoolwork is affected negatively.
Stress causes lack of sleep, slipping grades, fatigue, unhealthy eating habits, and many more
factors ( Should Students Get Less Homework ). Approximately 80% of students don t get the
recommended amount of sleep each night. According to a 2006 poll, At least 28% of students fall
asleep in class, and around 22% fall asleep while doing homework ( Should Students Get Less
Homework ). Some students talked about being so overwhelmed with all of the work they got at
school, that they became depressed. In some cases, depression can lead to suicide. Students can

Compassion In The Holocaust
Compassion is defined as sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of
others. In this case the idea of compassion could have changed the history of the world. The
Holocaust was the killing of millions of Jews and other people by the Nazi s during World War
2.This was truly based upon hatred of a religous group, and wouldn t be possible without Adolf
Hitler, the leader of Nazi Germany. Until a certain point no one was showing compassion for the
people being terrorized by this tyrant. It is unknown to historians that during this time period the
people didn t know what was happening, or they didn t want to believe what was happening. With
that being said, could compassion have been a key factor in stopping the Holocaustearlier than it
already was?

Competitive Edge:
HMM will employ a two pronged competitive edge. The first edge prong is having low overhead.
Additionally, unlike many record labels, there will be a recording studio to support. Significant
costs are saved by renting equipment time as needed.
HMM will also use their other competitive edge prong by retaining a stretch artist count. While
this will reduce the chance of large records sales associated with having many different artist under

Theory of Capital Structure
Theory of Capital Structure A Review
Stein FrydenbergВЈ April 29, 2004
ABSTRACT This paper is a review of the central theoretical literature. The most important
arguments for what could determine capital structure is the pecking order theory and the static
trade off theory. These two theories are reviewed, but neither of them provides a complete
description of the situation and why some п¬Ѓrms prefer equity and others debt under different
circumstances. The paper is ended by a summary where the option price paradigm is proposed as a
comprehensible model that can augment most partial arguments. The capital structure and corporate
п¬Ѓnance literature is п¬Ѓlled with different models, but few, if any give a complete picture.

The theoretical models of capital structure in a world in which capital markets are not perfect
relates capital structure to several measurable and nonmeasurable attributes of a п¬Ѓrm. The
irrelevance proposition provides conditions under which the capital structure of a п¬Ѓrm is
irrelevant to total п¬Ѓrm value. Turning the irrelevance proposition around, the proposition also
tells us which factors that may be the causes of corporate capital structure. The assumptions giving
irrelevance as a result may cause relevance if they are broken. The question is, do they, and if so to
what extent? And what if several imperfections exist simultaneously? Besides the irrelevance
hypothesis of Modigliani and Miller there are several other theories relevant to capital structure.
These are the asset substitution hypothesis, under investment hypothesis, the free cash flow
hypothesis, the signaling hypothesis and product markets arguments. 3
.1. Value Additive Model of Capital Structure State preference models have been used extensively
in the п¬Ѓnance literature as a general framework for explanation of the irrelevance hypothesis.
Both Lewellen and Mauer (1988), Kraus and Litzenberger (1973), Stiglitz (1969) and Hirshleifer
(1966) have used this approach.

A Brief Note On Vegetation Surrounding A River
Background
Riparian vegetation surrounding a river plays a vital role in the input of energy into the river
system in the form of dead leaves, twigs, and branches (Knight et al., 1984). Every year during
the fall, deciduous trees begin to drop their leaves as they prepare for winter. Leaves dropped from
riparian vegetation typically find their way into the river system, whether it be by wind, direct fall,
or strong rains. This annual event also serves as an important annual influx of energy for the river
ecosystem. In Bear Brook, New Hampshire, 99% of the annual input energy into the freshwater
aquatic system is allochthonous from the forested watershed or upstream areas (Fisher and Likens,
1973). Of this 99%, 44% is provided by leaf and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In lentic habitats, floating leaf matter tends to settle down in the water column and cease drifting
(Cummins et al. 1980). If leaves cease drifting, then they are no longer able to collect in riffles and
form leaf packs downstream.
Downstream from the dam, lentic habitats are converted to lotic and erosion increases as a result
of the faster moving water (McConnell and Lowe McConnell, 1987). Given the fact that, above
the dam, leaves are taken out of the system as a result of settling, there may then be less leaves to
collect in the riffles downstream from the dam. Also, since the water below the dam is faster
flowing than what it is upstream, riffles that may have produced large leaf packs are scoured of
leaves by the high water velocity. Since shredders depend on leaf mats as a source of food, it is
likely that they are also affected by the presence of the dam.
Justification
While many studies have focused on the changes of habitat and populations of aquatic
invertebrates caused by low head dams (eg., Dean et al., 2002; Tiemann et al., 2004; Santucci et
al., 2005) there have been no studies conducted that focus specifically on the effects of low head
dams on the formation of leaf packs or how the presence of these leaf packs affect shredder
abundance. Shredders are important to the river ecosystem, as they are one of the key groups of
aquatic insects found within the

Separation Of Powers Dbq Essay
The founders of the Constitution had to make a document that would give powers to the people yet
also protect against one or more person getting too powerful. This is called tyranny, or a
government with absolute power. They protected against it by creating Federalism, Separation of
powers, Checks and balances, and Bicameral legislative. This allowed us to have a constitution that
guards against suppressive tyrants.
One of the guards against tyranny is Federalism. Federalism is the sharing of powers between
federal and state governments. This allows an equal balance of power that the states and the federal
governments have and share between one another. One example is that both state and federal can
tax money. Yet only the federal can coin... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

would be represented in different ways. This would make the big and little states still want to
ratify the Constitution. It protects against tyranny as it allows the voices of the people to be
heard. Whether that is from the house or the senate, or by big or little states, it will still be had by
voters. This makes it so the government doesn t forget the people and

How Technology Has Changed Business
The rise in technology over the last two decades has affected businesses tremendously. E business is
changing not only how we buy and sell but is transforming the way we do business altogether. In
the fast paced and competitive nature of the business marketplace, e business has allowed
companies to increase the value of their organization by improving their operations, not just
allowing customers to buy over the internet. In order to stay competitive, businesses must embrace
the culture change into new technology. This is one of the greatest challenges that business face
today. It is important to recognize how technology has influenced businesses, how new technologies
can be adopted, and what it means for consumers and organizations.
E business is the use of Internet technologies to link customers, suppliers, business partners, and
employees (Information Week, Dec 13, 1999). This can be in the form of e commerce websites that
offer sale transactions, customer service websites, intranets and enterprise portals, extranets and
supply chains, and lastly, IP electronic data interchange. The use of these different networks and
technologies all businesses to improve, enable, enhance, invent, or transform a business process.
Basically, technology helps build and manage relationships within a business to potentially
transform a firm into a networked entity with seamless supply chains and superior value creation
processes.
The adoption of innovative technology can be viewed from

randomly selected and put into categories of hair colour, none of them would share exactly the

Boroditsky, Wade, Wu, Frank, Witthoft and Winawer (2007) established the importance of
precision in labels by studying the difference in response between English and Russian speakers
in distinguishing similar but subtle different shades of blue. In Russian there are many words for
blue as they divide the spectrum into lighter blues goulboy and darker blues siniy but in English
there is only one single word for the colour blue. Due to this difference the Russian speakers were
quicker to distinguish between the colours as they had readily available labels unlike the English
speakers.
Labels have the ability to control more then just conscious perception but they can also change
how we perceive more complex things like people subconsciously. Jennifer Eberhardt (2003)
showed white college students pictures of a man who was racially ambiguous. For half of the
students the face was described as white and for the other half he was described as black . In one
task the experimenter asked the students to spend four minutes drawing the face while it was on
the screen in front of them. Although all the students were looking at the same face, those who
were told that the face belonged to a specific race tended to draw the face with typical stereotype
features associated with that race. This demonstrated that the students were unable to identify the
subject as a individual after the label of his race was assigned to him.

Why Is Technology Important In The Vietnam War
During the Vietnam War, a proxy war fought primarily between North Vietnam and South Vietnam
with the support of the US, the deployment of new technology is seen by some to have a pivotal
impact on the nature of warfare. The Vietnam War does however highlight how other factors may
have been equally influential as despite America s large preponderance in the sense of technology,
weapons and ultimately economic wealth it was counteracted by the intense motivation to win and
leadership shown by the North Vietnamese Army and the Viet Cong, provoking their victory. As a
result, it raises the question if new technology alone influenced the nature of warfare in this period
or if it was a combination of other aspects including public support, organization,... Show more

Vegan Cinderella Analysis
Vegan Cinderella
Description
In the Netflix original, Easy. Entitled Vegan Cinderella by Joe Swanberg, we see an honest and
visceral depiction of modern young love. There are moments in our relationships when we lie to
our significant others, maybe even change a little bit of ourselves for them. In this episode, we
see a cast of mostly young twenty something year old lesbian females and follow the two main
characters through the first few days of a budding romance. We hear many awkward
conversations between the two women about veganism and there is a great sense of realism
within the story and the characters. You feel like these women could be any one of your friends,
almost as if you are also there with the characters. I think everyone at some point in their life has
tried to change themselves because they thought it is necessary in order for the other person to

What I Chose Electrical Engineering
Well here it is, the senior project. The assignment everyone dreads, however, the assignment that

I chose electrical engineering for several reasons. One, I like to investigate stuff and figure out how
it all works, and I have always had an interest in computers which function on electricity. I also love
subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Algebra, and Trigonometry. I began considering
engineering last year when I took an elective, Intro to Engineering, it was comprised of hands on

learned a ton of useful skills and information. As for picking the electrical part, that was as

my own personal computer from scratch. I went out bought the parts and carefully, as to not
damage the delicate parts, put it together, installed my operating system, and now enjoy my own

My Experience At The Coast Guard
One of my first experiences in the Coast Guard was a question that went out to the whole
company, Why do you want to be in the Coast Guard? Naturally my response was that I wanted to
help people. Little did I know at the time, that as I progressed through my career, so too would the
focus of my desire to help shift to the people placed under my charge. Starting out I didn t place
much thought into leadership. Luckily, I have had the privilege to serve with several people that
have demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout my career. Jeff Dorwart, John Lorentz,
Marvin Wells, etc., the list goes on. All of whom have imparted some of their leadership wisdom
upon me, either through demonstration or conversation. Leadership to me is the ability to influence
others in the pursuit of a shared vision or goal, regardless of whether it is yours or one you yourself
have been influenced to follow.
2.For some of my leadership mentors, they modeled the way by their actions and personal
interactions. Marvin Wells always maintained an outstanding uniform. He usually had a smile on
his face and presented himself as a very approachable individual. In fact, even when I was getting
corrected , it didn t feel like an ass chewing, rather a course correction that I ended up being harder
on myself than what he was. Jeff Dorwart and John Lorentz were both big picture thinkers. They
would shamelessly share the big picture, direction and desired end result with all. This created buy

Dr. Mamie Clark and Dr. Kenneth Clark, the first African Americans to earn doctoral degrees in
psychology from Columbia University were destined to use their platform for social awareness
and change. Dr. Mamie Clark and Dr. Kenneth Clark are most well known for their Clark Doll
experiment, an experiment that would later be used in of the most landmark Supreme Court cases,
Brown vs. the Board of Education. Racism was of common knowledge among those in the United
States in 1939. The Clark s were extremely aware of this and for Dr. Mamie Clark s master s
degree thesis the monumental experimental case study was born. The experiment, the Clark Doll
Test, involved a children ages black children ages six to nine being presented a choice of two
dolls that were identical in every way except for their skin color. The test was given to over three
hundred children in different parts across the country in both schools that were still segregated
and integrated schools by the Clarkes. The children were brought into a room with a table, two
chairs, two different dolls, a video camera recording, and Dr. Kenneth Clark. One doll was white
skinned, with blonde hair and blue eyes the other doll was dark skinned, with black hair and
brown eyes. The experiment worked to show the existing stereotypes and a young child s self
perception in the relation to their race. The purpose of the experiment was for the Clarke s to show

In Colorado My Father Storacked Dishes Summary
In Colorado My Father Scoured and Stacked Dishes by Eduardo C. Corral is a poem about the

Social And Political Views Of Democracy
Democracy offers people the chance to be involved citizens rather than unreceptive subordinates.
However, this right doesn t come unchallenged. Citizens are required to assess a broad range of
political subjects (such as candidates, parties, and policies) and then combine and simplify their
likings in a way that allows them to choose on voting decisions. So, how are these challenges met?
In the United States, some citizens are conservative Republics, some are liberal Democrats, and
others fall in between or outside the two. Recent studies have proposed that these recognitions play
an important part in voting behavior and political perception. Recently, however, more studies have
accumulated advocating for two meager assumptions in regards to this study: that liberal
/conservative identifications are bipolar in meaning and that underlying this bipolarity is cognitive
meaning based on political issues (Conover, Feldman, 265). These variances in political positions
are called political attitudes, and fall on a spectrum between extremely liberal and extremely
conservative. Broadly speaking, this spectrum distinguishes what someone believes about social
issues and governments role in society. These beliefs are formed by a variation of aspects, which
can include family, gender, religion, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status and region. Even things
like behavior, core ideals and values, and ideologycan affect people s political attitudes.
However, these opinions are not set in

Essay on The History of Music Industry
In the past, music has been a costly business, where only people with a lot of money could enter
and be successful in the industry. Changes in the music industry coupled with new computer
technology have made it much easier for people without a lot of money to compose, produce, and
distribute their creation. In order to get a better understanding of the music industryin comparison to

There were many changes in the business of music records from the 1980s onward. For example,
the Telecommunications Act of 1996 law was passed. This enabled a free for all in for the record
companies and granted them the ability to compete with anyone in the market. What ended up
happening was the companies bought each other left and right until there were 5 or 6 big
companies that ran everything. The record industry controlled music production, distribution, and
airplay on the radio. Radio started out on the AM frequencies, then later the FM higher fidelity
stations. The only way to get music through to the masses feasibly was to go through the highly
selective record companies because they were the only ones who could mass produce music. To
distribute, first they sold music on gramophone records, an early distribution medium made of
processed shellac from the lac bug. Then they moved on to track tapes, vinyl records, compact
cassettes, and eventually CDs.
Emerging digital Era: 1980 s And Beyond:
Gradually after this event, the medium for music had changed, from various types of analog
grooved discs, to various types of magnetic tape based reels and cartridges, to compact discs, or

An early revolution in music portability was created by a device called the Walkman cassette
player. This device was based on a similarly designed

How Did Tom Robinson Change In To Kill A Mockingbird
Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbird is set in Maycomb, Alabama in the 1930s. Racism is ever
present toward blacks and the trial of Tom Robinson, an African American, clearly displays this.
Tom Robinson was accused of raping a white woman. The huge detail in this is that it was a
white woman. Racial issues are really brought about because of that detail. People during this
time would easily take a white man s word over that of a black man, so nobody would ever trust
Tom Robinson, especially since he was a black man being accused of a crime against a white
woman. Tom Robinson really can t do anything to help his case. The only person that can help
him is Atticus. While Atticus does not believe that he will win the case, he knows that it is right
to do everything he can to help Tom. He knows right from wrong and he will do everything in his
power to help people see that, and to help Tom survive this case. Tom Robinson could also be

and the 1960s there were really no changes having to do with racism. Whites treated blacks so
lowly and that hadn t changed between the time when Harper Lee s story is set and the civil

Religious Rights And Gay Rights
As stated directly in the Constitution, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of
religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof... This means that one cannot be discriminated on
the basis of religion. In recent years, religious rights and gay rights have become tied together due
to the fact that some feel sexual orientationties into religious beliefs. There are some people who
are in agree with same sex marriage, while there are some that oppose it. It is stated that in The
Atlantic article that, In certain cases, extending new rights to LBGT workers will necessarily
lead to religious freedom objections, and vice versa. No matter what side you agree with in the
controversy of same sex marriages, it is important to remember that the Constitution states, all
men are created equal , therefore we must handle this controversy in a way that everyone is
treated equaled in the eyes of the law. Girgis and Anderson, the writers of What is Marriage?
Man and Woman: A Defense, are against same sex marriages. Their view on same sex marriage is
considered traditional. The framework that Girgis and Anderson erect for for approaching
questions of religious liberty is that when analyzing claims based on theoretical accounts of the
values served by religious liberty and antidiscrimination we can achieve win win outcomes by
respecting the moral and religious liberty claims in the debate without undoing anyone s legitimate
policy goals. Personally, I disagree

Socrates Wise Endurance Quote
1.
i.Socrates argument: Endurance must be wise to be courage.
a.Endurance of the soul is courage.
b.Courage is very fine (192c7).
c.Endurance and wisdom is fine and noble (192c9).
d.Endurance and folly is harmful and injurious (192d).
i.This premise contradicts his argument therefore folly can never accompany endurance and must
be deleted as a premise.
I agree with this logic since Socrates uses terms that Laches defines. By Laches definitions Socrates
accurately describes premises that disprove Laches argument. One can clearly see how the premises
result in that conclusion. ii. Socrates argument: Courage is foolish endurance. This refutes Laches
revised argument, courage is wise endurance of the soul. The point of the refutation is to prove that
courage has nothing to do with endurance regardless if it is wise or foolish and that another
definition must be devised.
a.Not all wise endurance is courage (192e). In the example of the man who perseveres in spending
his money wisely, Laches states that man is not in fact courageous despite fitting his definition of
courage.
b.Those with less wisdom (fools) who still choose to endure a situation are courageous. ... Show

By doing this, he also manages to clarify what fear and hope means so that everyone is on the same

In Reclaiming History: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the purpose of the reading
is to present evidence surrounding the JFK assassination because it has been taken over by
conspiracy theories which will continue unless someone makes the facts of the situation known, in
which case Bugliosi did so in that the conspiracy thoughts can be put to rest. This book s limitations
include the fact that since there is mention about conspiracy and some analytical thought in addition
to the cold, hard facts, one must be careful to pull out only the facts, so that they themselves can
analyze the presented information.
The origin of James McKinley s book was written just a little more than ten years after JFK s
assassination. It is a book compiled of the accounts of 12 famous political figures in American
History. In Assassination in America, the purpose of the reading is to examine the complex
circumstances surrounding the assassination by recreating the background and drama
encompassing the murder. The value of Assassination in America is that it was written just ten
years after Kennedy s assassination, so one is able to recall details more precisely, giving a more
accurate account than a book written fifty years after the event. The limitations of McKinley s book

The Importance Of The Tourism Industry In Costa Rica
2.3 Tourism Industry
The tourism industry plays a large part in the Costa Rican economy, directly and indirectly.
Because of the biodiversity and conservationist areas, the two coastlines totaling 1290 km, and the
temperate climate, Costa Rica is a frequent destination for eco tourism. 64% of the Costa Rican
labor force is employed in services industry, many of that falling under tourist services, and many
restaurants and hotels located in tourist towns. Of that workforce, 40% is directly employed by the
tourist industry, 39% indirectly, and 21% induced. In 2016, 2.6 million tourists visited Costa Rica,
spending approximately 3.4 billion USD. The combination of direct and indirect contribution of
tourism on the national GDP totaled 17.3 percent.
3.0 Technology
Costa Rica s main technological advancements in the recent years can be placed in three
categories: renewable energy, software developments, and medical devices. These three industries
thrived in Costa Rica for very different reasons
3.1 Renewable Energy
In 2016, 98.1% of the country s electricity was generated from renewable energy sources, such as
hydroelectric, geothermal, wind, and solar power. Because of Costa Rica s pledge to be carbon
neutral by 2021 and the general attitude of Costa Ricans to be eco friendly, a heavy emphasis on
renewable energy research has been present in the country for many years. Since so much of their
identity as a country and their tourism industry is reliant on the country s

The artist Thomas Cole was born in 1801, in England. He was an immigrant in the United States,

many different states including, Ohio, Philadelphia and in Pittsburgh where he work all over the
place traveling back and fourth as a portrait artist. Thomas Colewas a self taught artist yet he did
interact with well know artist. A changing point in Cole s life that in my opinion that had a big

In this painting we see an infant that is in a boat. Behind the infant there is an angel that is
guiding the child out of a cave into a beautiful landscape. Thomas Cole paints the landscape very
rich; you get o a sense of warmth and calmness. There is beautiful green land, big mountains, and
different types of flowers.
According to the website Exploring Thomas Cole, there are different types of allegories in this
painting. The first allegory is the hourglass that is in the boat. The hourglass is meant to
represent time, the second allegory is the river, which is meant to represent the stream of life,
and the third allegory is the flower, which is an Egyptian lotus, which Cole described as
symbolical of Human Life. Finally the cave that the infant and the angel are coming out of
according to Thomas Cole is an emblematic of our earthly origin, and the mysterious Past. Cole
uses different types of light and dark colors it gives the painting a different look, the light colors
fade and so does the dark colors, this is called chiaroscuro. Perspective was also used in this
painting; different parts of the painting have different sizes giving us a sense of depth.
The second painting, Youth, painted in 1842, oil on canvas, 53 in Г— 76 in, continues to have a
beautiful green landscape, we still see trees, flowers, mountains, and now we see a castle in the
back. In this painting the view is widening. The child from the last painting now looks like

Reflection Paper In English
In my initial submission for Lesson 1, I recall being amused by the statement in the introduction of
Navigating English Grammar that humans have always been fascinated by language. Then, and
now, this still seems like an understatement to me. Language is an incredible facet to me and
humans of all ages. To consider that an infant can communicate with few words and more gestures
and then continue to develop the use of language as the number of words increase proves to be such
an interesting phenomenon which has an influence on a human s existence. This influence
permeates throughout language in formal or informal use. In that same lesson, I recall the
childhood influences upon my language development. Being a young Southern woman, a distinct
dialect permeated my childhood environments; from home, school, and small community, the slow,
slang filled conversations enlightened me in the ways of people around me. This information
partnered with the Grammar Quest proved that my own method of verbusage perplexed me. The
instruction received in my local elementary and middle school demonstrated an error in my
grandfather s way of speaking; therefore, my way of speaking did not follow prescriptive rules,
and additional instruction was deemed necessary. With this review and research of prior writings,
the use of verbs and verb forms used in a prescriptive nature proves to be an area of concern for my
own proper use of Standard English.
The following are samples of my own writing; The

Slavery And Its Impact On The United States Essay
Over the past 35 years a great change has occurred in the study of slavery and its impact on the
settling of the New World. From a footnote in American history of little consequence until the
cotton fields of the antebellum South, it has evolved into a study that now sees the institution as
the most significant element in the colonization and exploitation of this hemisphere by Europeans.
It also acknowledges the participation of Africans and the Amerindians in this process and
furthermore sees it as essential to its occurrence. The added significance of the Atlantic system has
created a more compelling picture and thrust slaveryto the forefront of the story form the beginning
of this historical era, in fact from before the moment Columbus encountered the Arawaks on
Hispaniola. To understand the history of the settling of European America is to understand the role
slavery played in the economic and political success of the one third of the migrants that arrived by
choice at the expense of the two thirds that arrived in chains. The discussion of modern historians
now centers on when and where did the transformation take place that brought ten to twelve million
Africans to the Americas in bondage, how did the social structure change with their arrival, what
effect did they have on the greater culture and in what ways were they able to create/maintain their
own Creole African culture. Though the authors seemed to be split on ethnocentrism/racism being
the primary cause

Emotional Intelligence And Human Resource Management
In the past years, many people have written about emotional intelligence role in the workplace.
Experts belong to emotional intelligence (EI) field provides many models and definitions to
understand the concept and meaning of emotional intelligence and its effects on individual s
(Employees, managers, supervisors) performance. As the world is becoming organizational world
and as the time passes change is occurring in almost every field. Thus Organizations (public and
private sector) have to manage change effectively to prevent the performance of workers from any
harm. For this purpose Emotional Intelligenceplays a very important and significant role in helping
the individuals to cope with this dynamic change in the workplace.
As mentioned by Naseer, Chisti, Aahman and Jumani (2011), Emotional Intelligence (EI) concept
was first introduced by Mayer and Salovay. Then it was further popularized by Golman, when he
raise a question that Why EI can matter more than IQ? Since then, this area become more attractive
in many fields like leading, OB organizational behaviour and HRM Human Resource Management.
(Naseer, Chishti, Rahman, Jumani, 2011).
According to John Mayer and Peter Salovey Emotional intelligence is the ability to identify and
understand accurately one s own and other s emotional reactions. It also includes the ability to
handle one s emotions so that good decisions can be made and individuals can act effectively .
(Mayer and Salovey, 1993). EI is social

Evidence Based Practice Summary
The purpose of faculty training in the nursing profession is to provide program evaluation to
examine evidence based practice in a simulation of care and provide safe nursing practice. Patients
with a tracheostomy are high risk and have numerous problems for nurses to find because of
respiratory problems. In addition, understanding the facility policy regarding tracheostomy care,
the faculty must possess specific knowledge and skills to provide satisfactory care. Evidence based
research has provided the organization for nurses to improve nursing care standards and practice
regarding tracheostomy care (Schreiber, 2015). On the other hand, the patient simulation laboratory

from simple to more complex care concepts (Moughrabi Wallace, 2015). When the faculty
understands the concept of theory and applies it to practice, their training can bring their newly
acquired skills into clinical practice. Therefore, Roy s model would work for my DNP project

(Haddon 181). The Curious Incident of the Dog in Night Time is in the point of view of a
teenage boy who suffers from a disorder named Christopher. The story through Christopher s eyes
is not a typical point of view. Haddon makes use of stream of consciousness when Christopher s
storytelling strays from his original point into a point that he believes is of equal importance. The
first person perspective is a tool to demonstrate the order and planning that goes on in Christopher s

One goal is to expose children to reading, and the other goal is to help the children visualize what
is trying to be expressed in the book through the illustrations or pictures. Analogously, The
Curious Incident of the Dog in Night Time uses picture to help the reader visualize important
aspects of the book. For many adults, they think that pictures in a book are silly, but in this case
it adds to the disorder of this novel. Christopher explains, ... Mrs. Peters cuts round the picture
with a Stanley knife and then you put ink on the lino and press it onto the paper, which is why
all the cars looked the same, because I did one car and pressed it onto the paper 9 times (Haddon
27). Does the reader really need to know the specific details of Christopher s card to his mother?
Probably not, but it helps characterize Christopher and show how his brain works. Many people
may say that the picture takes away from the order of the book, but it adds detail to the book
instead. Another time Christopher uses a diagram is when he is in the train station. Christopher
describes his surroundings, But the train station in Swindon wasn t like that. It was a tunnel and
some stairs, and a shop and cafГ© and a waiting room like this (Haddon 144). Immediately
following this description was a map of the train station. Christopher s autism is what causes
him to visualize the map in his head. Lots of people would think it is imbecilic to create a map
like that in their heads. On the contrary, it is an advantage to have a map of your surroundings
because it may help in a time of terror. People who are unable to create a map in their head are at a
disadvantage, so they have the real disorder. Pictures and diagrams are a good; they keep order in a

The Baroque Of Baroque Dance
Baroque dance was a particularly important process in the evolution of ballet. There are many
influences that are part of the process, such as the why baroque was created and the purpose that
baroque dancing served in cultural context. There was an important shift in history that engaged
people to want to move and it is an important subject to be studied. Baroque dancewas quite
different from the social dancing we experience today. There are different layers to baroque dance
and different contributors that created a historical permanence in the ballet genre we learn today.

spectrum. Baroque, its definition and relation to politics and... Show more content on

Even while the events took place, guests would be invited to dance depending on their rank .
The king and queen would participate in minute dancing and it is as literal as it sounds. The
king and queen would dance for a literal minute before the queen would dance with the princes
and then the princes would move on to dance with the princesses all before then bowing to the
king (Kassing 109 110). There was structure, strict structure at that, and all though this is a subtle
structure to the baroque era, it is this structure that is related to the art of ballet we study today.
Part of what made the baroque era a defined art was its intensity of aristocrat power, ...the
Baroque approach was likely to exhibit some combination of power, massiveness, or dramatic
intensity, embellished with pageantry, color, and theatrical adventure (Guisepi). Reflecting on
these words, it makes sense why the ballet we train for today has a certain stoic technique. Ballet
was conceived in a royal context. Yes, it was more clearly developed in later eras, but the baroque
era was the seed of such intentional technique. Ballet has grown to be a very intense performance
with a strict technique and it is still associated as one of the most important, if not the most
important, genre to be taught. Especially since it is the base of many other dance techniques.

The Media and Public Figures
Political Science 6, Laurie Houske
The First Amendment was first established to guarantee Americans with the basic civil liberties that
they would not be threaten by the government. With The First Amendment to the U.S Constitution
congress shall make no law.... abridging the freedom of the press guarantees the press to publish
news, information and opinions with out the government interfering. This also lets people such as
independent press companies the right to publish their own newspaper, mail newsletters, magazines,

rights to all kinds of media with publishing articles, broadcasting radio news, and much more.
When someone has the freedom to publish what he or she wants they are protected. It will most
likely mean the government won t censor reporters and journalist. Meaning the government has no
control on blocking certain material or preventing publishing of future work. Everyday in our lives
we see the media publishing news articles about a certain celebrity, person or recent news. Many of
the times the media will go to extremes to get the attention of the citizen of the US by releasing
stories that can either harm the reputation of a certain person or company. Since the media has the
right to publish anything they want such as valuable information or a certain opinion. Even on
television the reporters and anchors will also broadcast anything they desire.

in adaptive behavior before the age of 18. According to the American Associationon Mental

As Americans we should take pride in our country and our citizens, by punishing these special
people not killing them. They did not choose their own mental impairments; therefore, they should
not have these horrible acts of injustice inflected on them.
In many cases, there have been numerous times that mentally ill convicts have been sentenced
based soley on the words that flow from their mouths. It is proven that a retarded person is
simply not the same as other adults. According to Felner, they are child like in may of their
limitations: their ability to reason and develop skills needed to navigate in the world are
permanently stunted. In the case of Tony Chambers, a black man with an IQ in the 50s and a
mental age of 6. According to religioustolerance.com, he was convicted of raping and murdering
a young girl in 1990. Chambers confessed to the crime and will probably be executed, although
no DNA evidence proved that he was the perpetrator. The confession of a 6 year old would never
stand alone in court, but because he was in the body of an adult, his words were taken seriously
and he was put to death.
Many states have moved from these immoral acts, but too many remain. The United States Supreme
Court ruled in 1986 that the 8th Amendment prohibits the execution of insane prisoners. Only 12

Report on the unique characteristic of qualitative and quantitative research strategy
Quantitative and qualitative researches are based on different paradigms. Qualitative research
strategy focuses mainly on words, human behaviour in the cultural context, attitudes and life
experiences rather than numerical data (IPA Research Strategy. 2010). It focuses on collecting
information to confirm how the variables interrelate. It is subjective and always relies on the
interpretation of the situation of the individual undertaking the study.
As for the quantitative it put emphasis on specific standard or numerical data and applies different
kind of statistical analysis. The researcher always stays independent, apart and uses random
sampling to prevent personal prejudices to misrepresent the results which can easily be generalized
(IPA Research Method, 2010).
Both strategies have their own characteristics.
Table 1 below illustrates different characteristic of the two strategies (H.J. Streubert D.R. Carpenter,

12 Angry Men Sociological Analysis
The film 12 angry men I chose to write about provides multiple points that can be compared to
things we have learned in sociology which we can take from this movie. This relatable, reality
based film, features a group of jurors who have to make a choice over whether or not someone is
guilty or innocent of an accused murder. At first, eleven of the twelve jurors vote guilty. Over time,
through heated discussions, the jurors are swayed to the decision of not guilty(Rosen, 2016). Upon
research, this film highlights sociology ideas in areas such as conformity, social inequality, ingroup
and outgroup, groupthink among other examples. Given the circumstance of the situation the juryis
in I would say conformity is a huge factor. Judging other s interpretations of this movie I would say
often leads to conformity due to the influences some of the characters have and the points they
make.Conformity is the act of matching attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors to group norms. The
tendency to conform occurs in small groups and in society as a whole, and may result from subtle

  • 2. Radar The Proliferation Of Location Based Services Essay Abstract The proliferation of Location Based Services (LBSs) and Geo Social Networks (GSNs) significantly increase the exposure risks of location information leading to leakage of sensitive information. Location privacy preserving methods are designed to provide a specified level of privacy based on some pre defined privacy guarantees such as k anonymity and e differential privacy. In certain situations, we note that users would need different privacy protection levels based on their relationships and trust associated with the users of the exposed location data. For instance, users of a location based social network may need a smaller privacy protection level in interaction with their close friends and a larger privacy protection level in relationship with public users. In this paper, we present a privacy aware access control model that provides different location privacy protection levels based on various access control list of users. The proposed privacy preserving access control model not only preserves the confidentiality of access control policy but also provides an efficient mechanism for grant and revoke of authorizations. I. INTRODUCTION The recent prevalent use of mobile devices and the availability of high resolution spatio temporal data sensing devices have popularized the use of Location Based Services (LBSs) and Location based Geosocial Networks (GSNs). These location based systems (e.g. Foursquare, Yelp, Google Latitude, and Facebook Places) provide services ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Patriotism and Its Meaning Essay Patriotism and Its Meaning In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States we are seeing many forms of Patriotism. I was suprised to find when I researched this word that it had a negative feeling associated with it. I believe that patriotism is actively showing your support for your country, standing up for what you believe in, and fighting for our individual free will and independence. I am proud of my country and I am not ashamed to fly the American Flag. Many men and women have died to give me the freedoms that I take for granted. I applaud their patriotism, and I thank them for giving me my way of life. I will support them in protecting my country. I will try to elect officials who believe in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I hope that you, as an American citizen will learn about your government and actively support it, by voting, writing your congressmen, and making a difference for peace. In standing up for what I believe in, I will not be ignorant of other people. I can be assertive in my beliefs without trying to impose them on my fellow citizens. America stands for diversity and to have patriotism to her is to believe that all people have a right to believe in thier own system of values. I do not agree with Emma Goldman, who stated: Patriotism assumes that our globe is divided into little spots, each one surrounded by an iron gate. Those who had the fortune of being born on some particular spot, consider themselves better, nobler, grander, more intelligent then the living beings inhabited by any other spot. It is therefore, the duty of everyone living on that chosen spot to fight, kill and die in the attempt to impose his superiority upon all others. On the contrary, patriotism stands for fighting for everyone to have the same freedom that I do. We did not ask for terrorist to attack our country, but it is our duty to defend her, not blindly as people would say we do, but earnestly keeping the good of all in mind. Richard Maybury, author of Early Warning Report, wrote: The only thing I would be willing to die for is my home and family; I would do what ever it takes to repel an invader, to protect my homeland. When I am deciding what I think of a U.S. military operation in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Where Is The Love Rhetorical Devices Music is a medium in which people can express their feelings, as well as get many strong messages across efficiently. What s wrong with the world mama, people livin like they ain t got no mamas. The song Where Is The Love , by the Black Eyed Peas starts with an audience attention grabbing question making the listener think of something going on with the world today. Even thought this song was released eleven years ago in 2003, it is still relevant with what is going on currently. The Black Eyed Peasare known for being a mainstream hip hop dance group. With the song Where Is The Love , they question everyone s ideologies regarding prejudice, and outlet their feelings towards racism, war, intolerance, greed, United States politics, terrorism,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the song Where Is The Love? by the Black Eyed Peas, the artist never gives a statistic with numbers, but instead just describes the things that are actually going on in the United States. They talk about the corrupt CIA, the Bloods, the Crips, and the Ku Klux Klan. Due to the text being a song, there are no actual images, but I believe that the song creates images in the listener s mind as he or she is listening to it. In the lyrics, the Black Eyed Peas say People killin , people dyin , children hurt and you hear them cryin , can you practice what you preach and turn the other cheek? I believe that this lyric creates the image of children crying, people killing others, and also the image of what is wanted, peace. The Black Eyed Peas also once again refer to something that actually happened when they say Nations droppin bombs, chemical gasses fillin the lungs of little ones , even though there is not an actual statistic of how many young children were effected by bombs, they still refer to the event happening. In a way, you could see the song as a cause an effect statement. Because there is no peace in the world, people are dying, countries are at war, and young, innocent children are losing their lives. Even though it is impossible to tell what will happen in the world if the love was more prevalent, it seems as if the Black Eyed Peas definitely believe that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Reasons For The Compromise Of 1877 Dbq The Compromise of 1877 has received different opinions on whether it was right, wrong, or necessary, seeing as how some of its effects lasted decades after , but what if it had never occurred? Would the United States be where it is today if not for that crucial compromise? Nobody knows, but by the way it caused the end of reconstruction, America should be thankful it did. The reconstruction era of the United Statesof America started after the end of the civil war. This period of time was devoted to helping the battle worn South rebuild its broken cities, governments, and economies. Unfortunately, some southern states saw the reconstruction effort as only a way to help recently freed slaves gain equal rights, of which most whites disapproved.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, the Republican party wished for their own party to win the office. Though the Southern people may have wanted a Democrat in office, the Democratic party had its eyes set upon Home Rule . They could finally have members of their own party governing their own states unlike during reconstruction when Republicans were put in office in Southern states. In order for the Republicans to obtain the presidency, the Republicans and Democrats had to agree to a compromise that would satisfy both parties along with helping the Democrats out of their governmental and economic slump. The presidency was given to Rutherford B. Hayes, and the Republican party once again had control of the government. Some Democrats tried to pull Hayes out of office by criminally charging him with fraudulently winning the election. Regrettably, this did not go as planned and only unified the Republican party which stood firmly behind Hayes. Though Hayes was a Republican, his policies sometimes opposed the Republican party. Hayes saw that the United States government had been corrupted by patronage which had been used by state and federal lawmakers to keep themselves in office in return for different favors to cities or companies. When President Hayes confronted this issue saying, Now for civil service reform. We must limit and narrow the area of patronage , most politicians of the Republican party opposed him. Calling for civil service reform to take the place of patronage would mean, politicians and lawmakers would be chosen by how they performed in politics rather than being chosen because they knew a politician who could give them the opportunity to come into politics. Although civil service reform was not enacted during the Hayes administration, only two presidents later Chester Arthur, a man whom Hayes had dismissed from office due ... With all the definitions above it is still impossible to completely understand the situation of Kaplan with his daughter s statement. The belief of Ari cancels out the statement abundantly; thus, making it a paradox statement. The reason for this is due to the statement and the situation, even though both of the statements are true, they cannot be true at the same time, in other words it is self contradictory. It is such a great irony that the attention grabbing sentence of Kaplan s daughter leads to no further discussion in the book; nonetheless, the same theories Kaplan uses to explain the existence of Santa can too be useful to unlocking the paradoxical sentence. The most important arguments for what could determine capital structure is the pecking order theory and the static trade off theory. These two theories are reviewed, but neither of them provides a complete description of the situation and why some п¬Ѓrms prefer equity and others debt under different circumstances. The theoretical models of capital structure in a world in which capital markets are not perfect relates capital structure to several measurable and nonmeasurable attributes of a п¬Ѓrm. The irrelevance proposition provides conditions under which the capital structure of a п¬Ѓrm is irrelevant to total п¬Ѓrm value. Turning the irrelevance proposition around, the proposition also tells us which factors that may be the causes of corporate capital structure. The assumptions giving irrelevance as a result may cause relevance if they are broken. The question is, do they, and if so to what extent? And what if several imperfections exist simultaneously? Besides the irrelevance hypothesis of Modigliani and Miller there are several other theories relevant to capital structure. These are the asset substitution hypothesis, under investment hypothesis, the free cash flow hypothesis, the signaling hypothesis and product markets arguments. 3 .1. Value Additive Model of Capital Structure State preference models have been used extensively in the п¬Ѓnance literature as a general framework for explanation of the irrelevance hypothesis. Both Lewellen and Mauer (1988), Kraus and Litzenberger (1973), Stiglitz (1969) and Hirshleifer (1966) have used this approach. • 14. A Brief Note On Vegetation Surrounding A River Background Riparian vegetation surrounding a river plays a vital role in the input of energy into the river system in the form of dead leaves, twigs, and branches (Knight et al., 1984). Every year during the fall, deciduous trees begin to drop their leaves as they prepare for winter. Leaves dropped from riparian vegetation typically find their way into the river system, whether it be by wind, direct fall, or strong rains. This annual event also serves as an important annual influx of energy for the river ecosystem. In Bear Brook, New Hampshire, 99% of the annual input energy into the freshwater aquatic system is allochthonous from the forested watershed or upstream areas (Fisher and Likens, 1973). Of this 99%, 44% is provided by leaf and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In lentic habitats, floating leaf matter tends to settle down in the water column and cease drifting (Cummins et al. 1980). If leaves cease drifting, then they are no longer able to collect in riffles and form leaf packs downstream. Downstream from the dam, lentic habitats are converted to lotic and erosion increases as a result of the faster moving water (McConnell and Lowe McConnell, 1987). Given the fact that, above the dam, leaves are taken out of the system as a result of settling, there may then be less leaves to collect in the riffles downstream from the dam. Also, since the water below the dam is faster flowing than what it is upstream, riffles that may have produced large leaf packs are scoured of leaves by the high water velocity. Since shredders depend on leaf mats as a source of food, it is likely that they are also affected by the presence of the dam. Justification While many studies have focused on the changes of habitat and populations of aquatic invertebrates caused by low head dams (eg., Dean et al., 2002; Tiemann et al., 2004; Santucci et al., 2005) there have been no studies conducted that focus specifically on the effects of low head dams on the formation of leaf packs or how the presence of these leaf packs affect shredder abundance. Shredders are important to the river ecosystem, as they are one of the key groups of aquatic insects found within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is called tyranny, or a government with absolute power. They protected against it by creating Federalism, Separation of powers, Checks and balances, and Bicameral legislative. This allowed us to have a constitution that guards against suppressive tyrants. One of the guards against tyranny is Federalism. Federalism is the sharing of powers between federal and state governments. This allows an equal balance of power that the states and the federal governments have and share between one another. E business is changing not only how we buy and sell but is transforming the way we do business altogether. In the fast paced and competitive nature of the business marketplace, e business has allowed companies to increase the value of their organization by improving their operations, not just allowing customers to buy over the internet. In order to stay competitive, businesses must embrace the culture change into new technology. This is one of the greatest challenges that business face today. It is important to recognize how technology has influenced businesses, how new technologies can be adopted, and what it means for consumers and organizations. E business is the use of Internet technologies to link customers, suppliers, business partners, and employees (Information Week, Dec 13, 1999). This can be in the form of e commerce websites that offer sale transactions, customer service websites, intranets and enterprise portals, extranets and supply chains, and lastly, IP electronic data interchange. The use of these different networks and technologies all businesses to improve, enable, enhance, invent, or transform a business process. Why Is Technology Important In The Vietnam War During the Vietnam War, a proxy war fought primarily between North Vietnam and South Vietnam with the support of the US, the deployment of new technology is seen by some to have a pivotal impact on the nature of warfare. The Vietnam War does however highlight how other factors may have been equally influential as despite America s large preponderance in the sense of technology, weapons and ultimately economic wealth it was counteracted by the intense motivation to win and leadership shown by the North Vietnamese Army and the Viet Cong, provoking their victory. There are moments in our relationships when we lie to our significant others, maybe even change a little bit of ourselves for them. In this episode, we see a cast of mostly young twenty something year old lesbian females and follow the two main characters through the first few days of a budding romance. We hear many awkward conversations between the two women about veganism and there is a great sense of realism within the story and the characters. You feel like these women could be any one of your friends, almost as if you are also there with the characters. I think everyone at some point in their life has tried to change themselves because they thought it is necessary in order for the other person to like them. In this episode, we see Chase try to impress Jo by changing who she is in order to impress her which is something we all can relate to. Joe Swanberg is known for his indie films and shooting on 16mm and 35mm film. He also does not write scripts but writes a one page outline where he has the characters use improvisation to fill in the blanks. Citizens are required to assess a broad range of political subjects (such as candidates, parties, and policies) and then combine and simplify their likings in a way that allows them to choose on voting decisions. Recent studies have proposed that these recognitions play an important part in voting behavior and political perception. Recently, however, more studies have accumulated advocating for two meager assumptions in regards to this study: that liberal /conservative identifications are bipolar in meaning and that underlying this bipolarity is cognitive meaning based on political issues (Conover, Feldman, 265). These variances in political positions are called political attitudes, and fall on a spectrum between extremely liberal and extremely conservative. Broadly speaking, this spectrum distinguishes what someone believes about social issues and governments role in society. What ended up happening was the companies bought each other left and right until there were 5 or 6 big companies that ran everything. The record industry controlled music production, distribution, and airplay on the radio. Radio started out on the AM frequencies, then later the FM higher fidelity stations. The only way to get music through to the masses feasibly was to go through the highly selective record companies because they were the only ones who could mass produce music. To distribute, first they sold music on gramophone records, an early distribution medium made of processed shellac from the lac bug. Then they moved on to track tapes, vinyl records, compact cassettes, and eventually CDs. Emerging digital Era: 1980 s And Beyond: Gradually after this event, the medium for music had changed, from various types of analog grooved discs, to various types of magnetic tape based reels and cartridges, to compact discs, or CDs, to digital downloads. Racism is ever present toward blacks and the trial of Tom Robinson, an African American, clearly displays this. Tom Robinson was accused of raping a white woman. The huge detail in this is that it was a white woman. Racial issues are really brought about because of that detail. People during this time would easily take a white man s word over that of a black man, so nobody would ever trust Tom Robinson, especially since he was a black man being accused of a crime against a white woman. Tom Robinson really can t do anything to help his case. The only person that can help him is Atticus. While Atticus does not believe that he will win the case, he knows that it is right to do everything he can to help Tom. Socrates Wise Endurance Quote 1. i.Socrates argument: Endurance must be wise to be courage. a.Endurance of the soul is courage. b.Courage is very fine (192c7). c.Endurance and wisdom is fine and noble (192c9). d.Endurance and folly is harmful and injurious (192d). i.This premise contradicts his argument therefore folly can never accompany endurance and must be deleted as a premise. I agree with this logic since Socrates uses terms that Laches defines. By Laches definitions Socrates accurately describes premises that disprove Laches argument. One can clearly see how the premises result in that conclusion. ii. Socrates argument: Courage is foolish endurance. This refutes Laches revised argument, courage is wise endurance of the soul. The point of the refutation is to prove that courage has nothing to do with endurance regardless if it is wise or foolish and that another definition must be devised. a.Not all wise endurance is courage (192e). In the example of the man who perseveres in spending his money wisely, Laches states that man is not in fact courageous despite fitting his definition of courage. b.Those with less wisdom (fools) who still choose to endure a situation are courageous. ... Reflection Paper In English In my initial submission for Lesson 1, I recall being amused by the statement in the introduction of Navigating English Grammar that humans have always been fascinated by language. Then, and now, this still seems like an understatement to me. Language is an incredible facet to me and humans of all ages. To consider that an infant can communicate with few words and more gestures and then continue to develop the use of language as the number of words increase proves to be such an interesting phenomenon which has an influence on a human s existence. This influence permeates throughout language in formal or informal use. In that same lesson, I recall the childhood influences upon my language development. Qualitative research strategy focuses mainly on words, human behaviour in the cultural context, attitudes and life experiences rather than numerical data (IPA Research Strategy. 2010). It focuses on collecting information to confirm how the variables interrelate. It is subjective and always relies on the interpretation of the situation of the individual undertaking the study. As for the quantitative it put emphasis on specific standard or numerical data and applies different kind of statistical analysis. The researcher always stays independent, apart and uses random sampling to prevent personal prejudices to misrepresent the results which can easily be generalized (IPA Research Method, 2010). Both strategies have their own characteristics. Table 1 below illustrates different characteristic of the two strategies (H.J. Streubert D.R. Carpenter, 1999). • 54. 12 Angry Men Sociological Analysis The film 12 angry men I chose to write about provides multiple points that can be compared to things we have learned in sociology which we can take from this movie. This relatable, reality based film, features a group of jurors who have to make a choice over whether or not someone is guilty or innocent of an accused murder. At first, eleven of the twelve jurors vote guilty. Over time, through heated discussions, the jurors are swayed to the decision of not guilty(Rosen, 2016). Upon research, this film highlights sociology ideas in areas such as conformity, social inequality, ingroup and outgroup, groupthink among other examples. Given the circumstance of the situation the juryis in I would say conformity is a huge factor. Judging other s interpretations of this movie I would say often leads to conformity due to the influences some of the characters have and the points they make.Conformity is the act of matching attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors to group norms. The tendency to conform occurs in small groups and in society as a whole, and may result from subtle unconscious influences or direct and overt social pressure.(Boundless.2015) My... We really have done a disservice to students by not allowing them to be exposed to this type of learning. It s not academic, but it creates an environment for abstract thinking. That reaches into everything and creates a foundation. Foundations help you grow and expand your horizon. Carmody, John. Personal Interview. March 4th, 2016. Mr. Carmody made a very good point when he stated that it is not academic. In order to create a well rounded student who is fully prepared to make the best possible decisions in their lives, they need to be taught how to succeed academically as well as practically in a real world setting. People should learn these skills [so that they can] be educated consumers. You should not be blind on one side. When people go and buy a car, they really only know how to start the car and maybe change a tire. But if we teach them more, they will be able to make a more educated decision on what will best suit their needs. Carmody, John. Personal Interview. March 4th, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
