This document discusses different views on what constitutes patriotism. It defines patriotism as a person's loyalty toward their country. Some believe waving flags and singing anthems shows patriotism, while others think more active involvement is needed. The document argues that passive displays like flag waving accomplish little and do not constitute true patriotism. It claims people who think flag waving is enough have not formed independent opinions and risk making the country weaker by basing it on laziness. It also notes few people waved flags before terrorist attacks, showing this "patriotism" was not genuine.

This document discusses the concept of ethnic identity in contemporary Britain. It begins by defining ethnicity as relating to belonging to a human group based on anthropological and cultural features. Ethnic identity is a recent sociological concept that refers to a group sharing common cultural practices and history including religion, language, and territory. For many ethnic minorities in Britain, strong ethnic identities have developed in response to feeling labeled as different from the white British majority. While ethnic identity is an important part of personal identity for minorities, it has a more restricted scope and relevance for the white British majority. The document examines how the concept of ethnic identity is used in everyday language and its continuing importance for shaping personal lives and relationships.

1. An Effective Teacher Essay
To me teaching is one of the most important jobs in the world. To make a difference in a child's life
is a huge privilege. There are many key attributes to being an effective teacher but for me some of
the key attributes are effective communication and establishing good relationships, guide children's
behaviour, setting up a good environment for learning and being well organised. They are many
other factors that also need to be considered not to become just a good teacher but a great teacher.
Effective communication is one key element to being an efficient teacher. Communication can be
verbal or non–verbal. Communication not only between your students but also the parents, your
colleagues, and the community. It's fair to say we...show more content...
By having an open and respectful relationship with families, they are more likely to trust you. Once
trust is established they will feel comfortable to share information with you about home life whether
it is good or bad. Effective communication requires appropriate staff time and physical space where
staff and families can talk meaningful and confidentially with educators who are open to diverse
perspectives (Arthur, et al. 2008, p. 51). To establish good relationships with your students you need
to have good personal qualities and characteristics. For example being natural – children can sense
when you are not genuine. Being warm – showing you care and want to be there. Show them good
body language and respect. Being pleasant – showing a friendly and positive attitude. Being
approachable– having good listening skills and interest in what the child is saying, is the teacher
whom we see as being approachable. Being tolerant – accepting each child as an individual, being
fair and consistent (Barry & King, 1997, pp. 94–95). By having these personal qualities and
characteristics the child is going to respect you and feel comfortable around you, which will
establish trust and they will want to learn and be enthusiastic about learning. They will have good
self esteem and be confident which will guide children behaviour. Guiding children's behaviour can

2. My Career as a Teacher Essay
As I begin my rewarding career as I teacher, I sit and reflect on what my goals and priorities are in
the classroom. I am excited to be engaged in a future career where I can implement my own beliefs
and mold the future into something extremely positive. I believe the most important aspects that I
want to bring to my students are threefold: I want to educate, motivate, and inspire.
In order to have a productive learning environment where I will be able to educate my students,
many different factors must take place. First and foremost, it is important to me that I master
exceptional classroom management skills. Effective and efficient learning takes place when
expectations in the classroom are consistent and clear. Also, discipline in...show more content...
These learning styles include; auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. By mastering and using as many
learning styles as I can, I will make sure each student is able to get the most out of their learning
experience. I understand that every child learns differently and understanding how to use different
approaches in each lesson plan will benefit every student. Not only is it important to use different
learning styles but I will also use different teaching styles during the curriculum. The different
methods I would like to use to teach my lessons include but are not limited to; scientific investigation
which uses the scientific method. The scientific method includes first investigating the problem,
coming up with a logical hypothesis, performing the experiment, reading the results, and finally
completing an analysis of the results. The next method I would explore is decision making which
is the thought process of selecting a logical choice from the available options. Next is problem
solving. When I teach the students to problem solve accurately they be able to overcome obstacles
and find a solution that best resolves the issue. Next, I will help my students think critically which
includes identification and evaluation to problem solving. Finally, I will use the method of
cooperative learning which is an approach to organizing classroom activities into academic and
social learning experience. I believe that every one of these method can be valued

3. My Teaching Philosophy Essay
My Teaching Philosophy I believe that education extends far beyond the classroom walls, and
involves many more people than students and teachers. People should be learning wherever they
go, and should continue learning long after they've graduated from high school or college.
Education isn't something that can be quantified with tests or report cards, but is instead
something that people carry with them. It's a survival pack for life, and some people are better
equipped in certain areas than in others. People with a solid education are prepared for nearly
anything, as they will be able to provide for their own physical, emotional, and aesthetic needs. That
being said, I also believe that a crucial part of education does...show more content...
The roles of a teacher are so many and so varied that it is impossible to list them all, but one of the
most important is preparing students to learn, not only in the classroom, but everywhere, and for
the rest of their lives. Learning is not a skill that is necessarily instinctual or easy, and therefore
different approaches must be used to make learning easier and more fun for students. Teaching is
not a skill that can be memorized or made repetitive, and so teachers must continue to challenge
not only their students, but also themselves. Teachers that become complacent in their jobs are
not good teachers. Those who can find a way to make an old lesson new and exciting will have an
energized classroom, and will be reenergized themselves. Every child is different. That sounds like
an obvious statement, but so many ineffective teachers seem to forget this. Each student has his or
her own varying abilities, talents, and levels of competence, and it is the job of a teacher not only
to recognize this, but to help each student recognize this as well. If a child isn't doing well in a
particular subject, both the teacher and the student should work towards figuring out why, and the
teacher should accept the challenge of finding a way to make a particular subject more

Being a Teacher
Is your life important to you? That is a statement anyone would replay, "yes" to. As surprising as it
may seem, though, an important, successful life would not even be, without one essential element:
teachers.
Teachers, educators, instructors, mentors, or baby–sitters, whatever they may be classified as, they
are necessary for many reasons. They are foundation or our American society, they are a source of
security, and possibly the parents some never had.
They are the foundation of our American society, meaning they educate everyone. Attending school,
whether it is public, private, or home taught is mandatory in America at a certain age. Therefore, all
the basics of life...show more content...
Those are just a few illustrations of the obligations teachers have. These should not be considered
obligations, but honors. Who would not want to be such an influential role model in others' lives?
As I begin my teaching career and the years prior to it, many ideas and decisions will take place.
Being that I plan to teach elementary school and deal with small children, I plan to be excessive on
classroom accessories. Children have a limited attention span and a dull, plain room would not be
appealing to them. The adjustment of leaving "mommy" will be hard enough for them anyway. I
hope to make the environment comforting and welcoming for them. Bright colored bulletin boards
and posters with needed information on them. I would like my students seated around the room in a
circle. From experience, I've found that children feel more at ease and apt to speak up when seated
this way.
I believe the teacher should be authoritative, especially in the lower grades. The students need to
know who is in charge and feel that there is someone of authority to look up to. Still yet, I want the
children to feel a sense of authority, to make decisions and play a leadership role. Possibly, let one
child be "leader of the day" each day; for example, lead the lines or pass out the papers.
Motivation and discipline, I view as the primary topics of educating a classroom. Children have to be
motivated, it is human

5. Essay about Teachers and Students
Teachers and Students
The education habits of students are rooted in them from the earliest days of their educational
careers. The different influences on students, whether it be inside educational institutions, or outside
is huge. The teacher of a classroom is the first and most pertinent influence in a student's educational
career. Teachers provide students with the basic skills they would need to survive not only in the
academic world, but also the world beyond. The relationship between teachers and their students is
the key element in creating an educational atmosphere that is both pleasant and effective.
The experience of a student at school, especially at a younger age, in most cases sets the main base of
the skills of that...show more content...
Unconsciously or not, they consistently reinforce and reward more 'feminine' behavior. Although
it may be true that boys are more active than girls, but to say that they are treated differently is to
be overly generalizing the situation. A teacher is supposed to be able to handle different types of
children in the classroom, and cater to their activeness or passiveness in a class. For example, a
teacher would try to involve a quiet and shy student as often as possible. The same goes for an
active child; the teacher should be able to find activities for that child which would not only educate
them, but also keep them busy.
Thomas provides various arguments as to how boys and girls are different; therefore they are
treated differently in a classroom. It cannot be argued that boys and girls are different, especially at
such a young age, but to say that teachers specifically do treat boys in a rougher manner would be
going too far. Thomas introduces the idea that society instills ideas of prejudice towards women in
young boys, so that when they do go into a classroom governed by a female teacher, they are
predisposed to be defiant and unruly. In my opinion, it is unfair to judge teachers based on the
performance of their students on various tests. Thomas's article introduces the idea that as the
number of female teachers is increasing, the performance of boys in school is declining. One much
question whether it is in fact the teachers who cause this

6. Essay on The Teaching Profession
The Teaching Profession Becoming an educator, especially in recent years has been considered one
of the most demanding yet rewarding professions in the work force today. Teaching, with its benefits
and intellectual motives has risen to become one of the most sought after jobs in society. But even
after taking such rewards into consideration, one might want to analyze how time consuming and
emotionally draining teaching young people may turn out to be. Along with its rewards and
demands, teaching is not only a potentially prestigious profession but also a very unique and
sometimes life long career opportunity. Exploring teaching has become a popular tactic in recent
years for people to make a better decision on whether or not teaching...show more content...
For the most part, teachers enjoy being able to work with young people in areas they may need
guidance in. For some however, helping people is not a top priority when it comes to the
teaching profession. Many jobs in society today do not offer the same types of benefits as ones in
this area of work. Teachers for example, enjoy holiday vacations, weather delays or postponements
and long summers in which they are paid for. Because teaching can become very time consuming,
teachers usually welcome these breaks to usually spend time with family, travel or enjoy hobbies
that they may not have been able to do while working. Paid time off is enough in itself to attract
people towards a teaching occupation and regular salaries have been increasing in recent years as
well. Over the past thirty to thirty–five years teacher's salaries have increased dramatically. It has
been shown that the average school teacher, who works in the Northeast, will make anywhere
between thirty–two and forty–five thousand dollars annually plus previously listed benefits. It is also
probable that these average salaries are only going to increase with time, thus attracting many more
to the field of teaching. With increased salaries, personal gratification, and enjoyable benefits being
a teacher's main attractant, job security should be at the top of this list as well. If a teacher has
been granted tenure after his or her first few years in their profession, he or she may not be removed
from their
