Who Is Abraham Lincoln The Best President
The best U.S President is Abraham Lincoln because he did his best to free all the slaves of the
Confederate states or better known as the South. Lincoln was famous for his actions against civil
injustice and passed a law called the Emancipation Proclamation. Also, Lincoln lead the Union
army against the Confederates in the Civil War. Once the Civil War ended he never stopped trying
to fight for all African American rights.
I believe that Abraham Lincoln is the best United States President because once he won the
election of 1860, he caused some chaos in the southern states. He became unpopular to some but
he stayed focused and determined. Lincoln, while in office wanted to change the world by trying
to give slaves: civil rights, fair

Richard Wagner Characteristics
We are still waiting for the man who can compose and write a genuine opera. (Furness 14). That
man was Wilhelm Richard Wagner he was known for his operas and other compositions which
influenced many other composers. Wagner wrote many amazing operas, compositions, and poetic
lyrics. Some think he wasn t so important, but some even think he was one of the best holding him
up to Beethoven for his compositions (Furness 7). Wagner s best composition from his career is a
composition called Der Rings Des Nibelungen, which is a composition that is eighteen hours long
and four operas which had reoccurring themes connecting them all together. Firstly, Richard Wagner
was born on May 22 ,1813 in Leipzig, Germany. Wagner had eight siblings, five sisters and three
brothers. He never had much talent in music when he was attending a school in Dresden,
Germany. He played the piano a horrible way and his teacher told him he wouldn t be much
because he couldn t manage to play properly (Newman 46). He had trouble understanding the
terms of the music as a child he knew what they use where he just didn t know how they were
announced. He also struggled in his life when it came to see who his father was even some
would say Richard s facial features resembled his father Carl Friedrich Wagner who passed away
just months after he was born, but an actor named Ludwig Geyer who married Wagner s mother
was on the list of whether he was the father or not. While the only thing they compared Richard

Change in lifestyle
Acording to Euromonitor International data Obesity has become one of the buzzwords of the early
21st century. The statistics are indeed worrying, particularly in the Anglo Saxon world.
While many consumers are leading increasingly sedentary lifestyles and consuming a diet heavy in
calorie dense foods, a growing number are fighting back against the prevailing trend, participating
more in sports and unafraid to spend significant amounts of money in pursuit of their passion,
which for some has become something of a lifestyle accoutrement.
a growing number of middle aged men in this age group are participating in more intensive
activities, such as triathlon. This group of consumers also tends to have significant levels of
discretionary income, which is very useful in a sport where equipment must be purchased for three
separate disciplines (swimming, cycling and running). In the UK, some affluent middle aged men
are opting for high end road bikes, rather than cars. Children are now participating in organised
sport almost as soon as they walk on the basis that learning basic skills.
Identified social factors mean that demand for sporting equipment and services is likely to continue
to exhibit stellar rates of growth.

Toy Soldiers War Strength Research Paper
If you re not familiar with tower defence games, Toy Soldiers: War Chest is the perfect
introduction into the genre. It is the third installment in the series, developed by Signal Studios and
published by Ubisoft. Toy Soldiers: War Chest is incredibly simplistic and easy to get into. The
tutorial introduces you into the games mechanics by letting you play through a series of waves
where enemy units attack from multiple directions. You re objective is to simply defend your toy
box by setting up turrets in specific locations, with your defensive strategy alternaternating to
counter what kind of enemy unit is advancing on you. A countdown timer to the right of the screen
gives you ample time to prepare for the next attack, and informs you what is approaching.... Show

Since each wave continuously changes, you have to upgrade, or alter what kind of weaponry
you have defending specific parts of the battlefield. Turrets can be customised by adding
sandbags for defence, or upgrading the ammo. While battle is in full swing, you are
continuously earning money which you can spend on better turrets or repairing them. The
ability to man the turrets is a cool feature that adds an extra dimension to the game. If you wipe
out enough of the oncoming enemy forces, your attack meter charges allowing you to take
control of one of the many toy heros you can choose from such as He Man, or call in a bomb
strike from a zeppelin. The enemy AI performs well enough. I wouldn t say I was blown away
by how it performed, but it is worth noting that if you make an avenue impossible to infiltrate for
the enemy, the AI is smart enough to look for other possibilities. The single player campaign can
be spiced up by giving you the option of a two player local co op. Also, you can have up to four
players online engaged in battle. The online modes perform solidly enough, and add some much
needed longevity to the

Crime Problem In The United States
Crime is a major problem in the United States. It is happening to often than it should. Everyday
there is always a crime story taking place in the news or in the daily newspaper. It is difficult for
individuals to not be drawn to negativity happening in their community. There are many different
ideas on how to solve the crimeproblems that are happening in our country. First we need to have
stricter punishment and stick to it for all criminals. Many of the criminals are getting off with little
to no punishment, which sometimes they become repeat offenders. With some criminals having
good behavior while serving time, the justice system are allowing them be released early from
confinement and out on parole. This is unacceptable. If they committed

Conspiracy Behind The Assassination of John Fitzgerald...
John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 46, President for 1,026 days, was assassinated on November 22, 1963
in Dallas Texas. He, his wife, Jackie, the Vice President and many others were in Dallas for a
reelection campaign for the upcoming election in 1964 when the horrible incident happened. Sadly,
there is no decent explanation of the assassinationfrom the government The Warren Report is a 26
Volume Report that claims that Lee Harvey Oswaldis the lone assassin I do not agree with this.
The CIA was one branch of the government that was definitely a big thorn in Kennedy s side, and
he, a thorn in theirs. The Bay of Pigs Invasion was the spark that ignited the devastating fire!

Peter Dale Scott tells us in his book Deep Politics and the Death of JFK (1993) that late in 1963
Kennedy had authorized the withdrawal of one thousand U.S. troops from Vietnam this was the
first step towards total retreat from Vietnam, which he anticipated would happen by the end of 1965
(Scott 24). This incident added to the fire that was roaring underneath the CIA something had to be
done about Kennedy.
The Mafia is also a key suspect in this assassination. Especially Carlos Marcello, who was the
mob boss in New Orleans he was deported because of Attorney General Robert Kennedy,
President Kennedy s brother (Sherer April 1991). Robert Kennedy focused much of his time on
getting rid of organized crime, and he did a pretty good job. In the Web Site Who Murdered JFK
and Why? Marcello was quoted saying that President Kennedy was like a dog and Bobby
Kennedy was his tail. The dog will keep biting you if you only cut off its tail, but cut off the
head and the dog will die, tail and all. I would say that s a pretty good analogy of what happened.
If President Kennedy were to die, then Robert Kennedy wouldn t be able to keep going after the
mob. Another Mafia boss, Santos Trafficante from Miami also made a prediction about Kennedy s
death when he said Kennedy s not going to make it to the election. He s going to be hit (http:/

Essay on The Ever Changing Concept of Health
With the dominance of medicine over the past two hundred years many historical health concepts
have gone through various changes. The definition of health is dependent on one s perspective,
be it lay, professional or from influences of specific cultures or social ideals and health policies of a
particular time or place (Fleming Parker 2012, p.30, Naidoo Wills 2000).
An exploration through history will reflect on the health philosophies of the ancient Greeks and
Romans, the Middle Age s concept of quarantine and isolation and the religious theories of disease
including a brief insight into the renaissance. Subsequently, a discussion of health concepts of the

The Greek scholar Hippocrates (c.460BC c.370BC), defined the humoral conception of health, [the
Four Humours], with the balance of these being responsible for health, interacting together with
lifestyle and environment, including individual constitution, clean air, diet and clean water. He
noted in his writings, regarding the workers and slaves, that neglect of diet affected their health,
yet, work was not considered an influencing factor on humoral balance (Tountas 2009, p.186 187,
Fleming Parker 2012, p.28, Turner 2000, p.13, Krieger, pp.43 44, Noviik and morrow, 2008, p.5).
Others such as Empedocles, Aristotle and later Galen extended Hippocratic humoral theory to link
other elements (Hays 2009, pp.9 13). No matter which variation, these theories were an attempt to
rationalise individual incidents of sickness and the differences in health status in the populace in
relation to underlying principles and environmental exposures (Krieger, p.46). According to Krieger
(2011, p.47) Greek politics had influence stating not only nature but politics informed the
conceptualization of balance in Greek humoral theory .
Tountas (2009, p.187) noted that ancient Greek physicians were itinerant craftsmen, earning their
reputation for skill from the successes of previous visits (Veith 1980, p.532). The diversity of their
practice included leech craft, magic and what is known today as allied health professions including
dietetics, nutrition, occupational therapy,

Stressors Definition
Stressors have been an important aspect of our class journals each week through the semester.
Which leads to the question of where do these stressors come from and why? Stressors are a
source of strain that has both an objective and subjective view. Objectively, in a work setting it is
based on how much you put into the work and the number of hours you are completing. Whereas
subjectively, involves more of the perception of the work and how the work is being done.
Strain is the response to these stressors, which include behavioral, physical and psychological
aspects. Behavioral strain has an impact on a person s ability to perform in the work place and
how their feelings have an impact on the quality of the performance. A physical response is when
something is concretely happening to you and you can feel the strain and pressure from the
outcome. The third response is almost a final point of how a person feels which is psychological.

The Truth Behind The Columbine Shooting
America s star detective Michael Moore has done it again! In this edition, he uncovers the truth
behind the Columbine shooting, and exposes the real menaces of America s society. Or this is
what we are led to believe...
The Columbine Shooting has solidified itself as a tragic event in America s past, and was a real
wake up call to the nation s age old gun problem. Michael Moore looks into this issue and decides
it provides a great premise for his next documentary, his next crusade to flush out the evils of this
world. The problem is, Bowling for Columbine is far from the truth; it is rather a distorted
representation of reality, carefully sequenced to push Michael Moore s agenda. If we look past the
film techniques, conspiracy theories, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To offer an explanation as to how America got to this barbaric stage , an animated short, courtesy
of Matt Stone is played, which takes a satirical approach to the story of America s gun laws. The
general idea put across from this segment is that America s obsession with guns has transpired
from a fear of the black man; where it even went as far to suggest that the KKK negotiated with
the NRA to restrict black people s possession of a firearm. Moore then proposes that this fear has
appeared in many different forms, and that of which has been orchestrated by the government and
large corporations to boost consumerism. A hypothesis like this does seem plausible, however
there is no tangible evidence to reinforce this claim, just a lot of emotional appeal.
The majority of the documentary is spent proving this theory that Moore has ingeniously
managed to synthesise. Whether it is fear of the black man during slavery, fear of terrorists after
9/11 or fear of teenagers after the Columbine Shooting; there is always a reason for America to
worry. Moore shows us that when people are scared, they look for ways to protect themselves,
causing them to spend money; shown by the increase in homeland security after 9/11, which also
was apparently caused by the CIA supplying Osama Bin Laden with weaponry and tactical training
that was later used against the USA. He then investigates the media s role in inflating these issues,
stirring the

Figurative Language In A Rose For Emily
Love is a rubber band: you have it for quite a while and then it snaps and it is gone forever until
you come across another. Similarly, in the short story, A Rose for Emily, Faulkner characterizes
Emily as a lonely and bitter woman who tries to find love and keep that love in sync forever.
Through the discovery of Homer in Emily s house after her death, Faulkner conveys to the audience
that lovecan fall into the wrong hands when one is desperately seeking out for the need of
comfort and affection. In the beginning the town characterized Miss Emily as the bitter old lady
who never found love. Through this characterization the story would foreshadow what is to
come. After the death of her sweetheart (before Homer) she started to seclude herself from the
town. The love she had towards that man had vanished and corrupted her emotions towards
other people. Faulkner implied that Miss Emily was never to love again due to all the
devastations she s experienced. He chose to write it in first person point of view to show the
towns opinions on how Miss Emily is reacting and how her actions show desperate need of
company. Before meeting Homer, Miss Emily felt alone and she did not let anyone from town
help her recuperate from her losses. She was in distraught. The use of figurative language expresses
the attitude Miss Emily has towards the town. She is intimidating in which point the townspeople
obey on what she asks. All the loneliness and feeling like she was alone was with the

Racial Tension And Civil Unrest
As diverse as the city of Los Angeles is, it has a history of racial tension and civil unrest. From
1910, the start of the Mexican Revolution and World War I when President Theodore Roosevelt
instituted the brown scare (Coerver, 2001), to 1913, when the California Alien Land Act
prohibited Japanese immigrants and citizens of Japanese descent from owning land in California,
to 1934, when 3000 Chinese immigrants were displaced to make way for Union Station, to 1942,
when 110,000 Japanese Americans were forced into internment camps, Los Angeles has
historically been the center of racial controversy and tension ( Year by Year, 1999). In 1943, Los
Angeles was also full of young African Americans and Mexican Americans trying to protest the
racism in the American culture by expressing themselves with their own music, clothing, culture,
and style (Cosgrove, 1985). By the time of the Sleepy Lagoon murder in 1942, the stage had been
set for the Zoot SuitRiots that occurred in June 1943. Although the riots only lasted ten days, the
ramifications ranged from cultural repression on the part of many Mexican Americanfamilies, to
political activism on the part of others, and the beginning of reform within the Los Angeles Police
Department.
In 1910, Mexico entered into a revolution; shortly thereafter the United States entered World War I.

However, what did this mean for the people in Cuba? Fidel Castros brother, Raul Castro, had been

With a 99.8 literacy rate, Cuba is ranked higher than both Britain and the United states. The
reason for its high literacy rate is because after the revolution, the government sent out students
to go out and teach those who could not read and mainly focused on the rural parts of Cuba.
Women and afro Cubans made up most of the illiterate population, and historically they were
always targeted, however when the literacy campaign begin they were not forgotten. Education
is viewed in Cuba as a basic human right instead of a luxury. In fact, The quality of Cuba s
education is recognized at the top international levels; for example, Cuba is ranked at number 16

Dismissal can be known as being unfair for various reasons. Every employee has the entitled right
to not be unfairly dismissed. However if an employer does dismiss an employee they must provide

categories established in the Employment Rights Act 1996. Dismissal can occur by the

A Research Study On Relational Database Technology
Abstract. In this report I will introduce the Memcached technology and provide more details about
it. In addition, I will explain how it works and how it differs than relational database technology.
Furthermore, I will use the finding of the paper Performance Evaluation of a Clustered Memcached
to present how Memcached can improve the performance of the web applications. The paper that I
did study is about a simulation project of using three different architectures of Memcached. The
simulation results will monitor the CPU and RAM usability of all the nodes in these three
architectures. I will explain the results and will discuss the findings of their results.
The relational database technology dominated the web applications for more than 30 years. This
technology is able to handle limited load to the database. However, the internet technologies and the
advents of the smart phones make the web applications to be accessible by many users and from
any location that is covered by the internet connectivity. In addition, currently, the web data in the
internet is dominated by the social networking and social media applications which include:
Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and others. This kind of web applications will likely be
prone to the high load of the database layer. As a result, it was not possible for the relational
database technology to handle the database load for such applications. Even scaling out the
application servers will not solve the database load

Conscription In Canada Research Paper
It is a well known fact that through Canadian history, English and French Canadians did not get
along very well. French and English Canadians had many differences throughout history, and as
time got closer to the 21st century, situations between these two groups of people got worse and
worse. Their main differences, as seen in the visual component of my CPT, were usually around
times of war, when conscription was a very big topic. However, we cannot forget the post World
War II situations that caused Canadato change forever. Therefore, the top three events that really
caused transformations in relations of French and English Canadians were the conscription crisis of

Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau decided to implement a solution to finally stop the French
Canadians and English Canadians from constantly fighting with each other. Therefore, he
developed and passed the Official Languages Act, which was an act that would finally recognize
the equal status of English and French throughout the federal administration, and ensure that all
federal institutions provide their services in English or French at the customer s choice. This act
allowed for French Canadians to no longer be seen as a minority in Canada and to finally be
recognized for who they are. Having Prime Minister Trudeau work very hard to pass this act
showed French Canadians that the Federal Government had finally recognized all the injustices
directed towards them, and that there was no longer any need for fighting between French and
English Canadians. The importance of this event is that finally, French Canadians were seen and
identified as actual Canadians , and this act is an apology from the Federal government towards
the French Canadians for all the injustice that had happened to them in the past. The Official
Languages Act was a way to show French Canadians that the culture of the French was in no

How Does Stephen Crane Use Imagery In The Open Boat
In the beginning of The Open Boat, the author Stephen Crane displays a wide variety of imagery.
The first chapter is about several men who get stranded on a deserted island. While their ship is in
the process of crashing into land, Crane describes the cruel waves. The horizon narrowed and
widened, and dipped and rose, and at all times it s edge was jagged with waves that seemed thrust
up in points like rocks . With much hesitation, Crane subtly foreshadows the future events. Such as
in the quote We re not there yet , said the oiler, in the stern . The oiler said they aren t there yet
many times throughout chapter one. This is the author casually foreshadowing. Chapter two
expounds some serious events, such as their boat detouring East instead of South into severe waves.
Despite the storm, however, the author exhibits much humor within the characters. The captain
points out to his fellow corsairs that sailing through a storm is much more interesting than just
sailing on a smooth ocean. Without the storm, where would we be? Wouldn t have a show . As the
storm got worse, the captain jokes once again. Do you... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Importance Of Creationism And Intelligent Design
Creationism and Intelligent Design theories should be taught in public schools with evolution. The
idea that students should hear both sides of the evolution debate enjoys widespread popular
support. An opinion poll from the Pew Forum on Religion in Public Life revealed that nearly two
thirds of Americans believe that creationism, in some form, should be taught alongside evolution
(Warnick, 2009, p. 305). Creation and Intelligent Design theories should be taught in public
schools, with evolution. Teaching about evolution with no clarity of how or if it fits with biblical
creation can cause confusion, especially for students raised in only a biblical creationist setting
may not know if the two are reconcilable. Teaching about just creationism without clarifying how
or if the two are reconcilable causes the same situation as above. (b) Statements in clear language
that show why the issue is important. While normally this would be related to culture, social
science or philosophy, it matters here because both creationism and science teach origins of life.
There are many Christians who would like to know about creationism and evolution, and students
should be able to learn about each. Because of these reasons, both should be taught so the students
are exposed to diverse information and perspectives so they can decide for themselves. The debate
on teaching creationism, evolution, or both in public schools has been an issue in the United States
since the Scopes Monkey Trial

Compare and Contrast of Judaism, Christianity and Islam
There have been a variety of conflicts in the world since the beginning of the human civilization,
many of which get their roots from the beliefs of their different religions. In order to understand and
eliminate the conflicts originated from different religions, it is important to take a look at the
similarities and differences among Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

In Christianity, Jesus is considered to be the Word of God whose word should be worshipped
and followed without question. As the founder of Christianity and the second entity of the
Trinity, Jesus acts as the leader of The Christian Faith. In Sermon on the Mount, Jesus delivered
the doctrine to the people, to tell them what to do and what not to do. In Nicene Creed, ...For
our sake he was crucified...he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again...he
ascended into heaven... As the medium between God and human beings, Jesus does not only
deliver Word of God, but also sacrificed himself for all the sins of mankind. He fulfilled his
mission to reconcile man to God. Unlike Christianity, Judaism and Islam do not think Jesus is
god. Muslims take Jesus, called Isa in The Quran, as the most important prophet who was sent
by Allah and born of the Virgin Mary, but not divine. He was sent to proclaim the gospel that has
been corrupted over time by human additions and alterations. After Jesus fulfilled his mission,
he was was raised to Heaven by Allah. Since the belief of the absolute unity and oneness of God,
Judaism forbids the worship of any person as idolatry. In Hebrew Bible, Jesus is less important
than he is in Quran. He is considered an ordinary Jew who is either messiah (a king or High Priest
traditionally anointed with holy anointing oil) or nor a divine person. Judaism does not accept any
of the claimed fulfillments of Jesus s prophecy as Christianity

Agriculture In China Since The Late 19th Century
Since the agricultural revolution, ninety nine percent of humanity had worked the fields of
agriculture in order to survive. Almost nobody had been able to move away from the fields to
cities, and people in the cities had almost never wanted to stop being a craftsman to begin a new
life as a farmer. Although the latter point remains true to this day, the former has been dramatically
altered. With innovations in agriculture as simple as hardened iron plows and better irrigation,
slightly more people could make their homes in cities. With the innovation of steam power and the
reaper in the late 18th and early 19th century, many more people had to leave farming as farm
production increased to join in the steam powered industry in the cites. With... Show more content

This created a great migration from farms to cities where farmers learned a low skill, low wage
trade in a highly productive factory, out producing high skilled artisans of the same vein. Supply
of goods skyrocketed high above the pre industrial era, driving prices way down. With such high
production in so many niches of the market, people could actually purchase nonessentials despite
earning less money from working in a factory; money was actually worth more. Because living in
a city had become cheaper, more farmers were attracted to come to work in a city further
increasing this migration. This migration is still happening today in China. Chinese are moving
from agricultural to urban areas for the same reasons americans and europeans have been doing
since the 17th century. What these factories to create, however, is a large increase in income and
wealth inequality; however, this barely matters because relatively everyone is better off. The rich
did not steal their money from anyone, and the poor are not having their money taken away. The
resource pie has been getting bigger; although some peoples pieces have been getting bigger faster,
it does not change the fact that everyone is better

God Of The Earth Essay
Darkness fills a land where evil is barely contained, illuminated by the five gushing rivers that
characterize the land, each unique to their region of hell. At the center, the infamous river of Styx
flows from Oceanus, creating a boundary between the land of the living and the land of the dead.
The Kokytos river branches southward off of Styx feeding into the marsh. On the other side of the
marsh, the Acheron river ebbs and flows southeast. Northwest of Styx, towards the Gates of Ivory
lays the waters of Lethe, the river of forgetfulness. Circling the Northern region of Tartarus flows
Phlegethon, winding like a python ready to choke the life out of its prey. Close to Phelegethon,
east of Tartus, is the plain of Judgments where cries of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mi lady, came a death whisper that filled the silence in an uncanny hollow way. Mi lord has

Proserpina was sure that the spirit could hear her heart rate that was pounding in her ears. She
forced her sob down and refused to cry out in agony. Hades was damned to this land just as much
as she was, and there was no shock that he had returned. She just thought she had a few more days
free of her husband, king, and tormentor. Not for the first time her anger for Jupiter burned in her
heart, for surely he would have control over Pluto enough to force her release, but no the gods

Mi lady, whispered the laureus. With the speed of Mercury, Proserpina unsheathed her dagger and
launched it towards the laureus head. With a hellish scream the demon dissipated before her.
Proserpina grinned at her blade, as she bent to pick it up and place it back in its sheathe. If only
she could do that to her husband, she would be free.
Proserpina followed the spirit through the palace and went to the throne room at the heart of the

The Death And Life Of Great American Cities
Ten million dollars is a lot of money. When this money has been generated over years of increased
taxes, and is to be put back into a community, it s important to know that this money is being used
wisely. Ten million dollars is the amount of money that the Budlong Woods community is using in
their Tax Increment Financing Redevelopment Area Project. This paper will investigate the current
state of the Budlong Woods community, as well as the specific focus areas of the redevelopment
project and determine whether Budlong Woods is on track to be Chicagos next successful
neighborhood.
Through Jane Jacobs book, The Death and Life of Great American Cities, she details precise
features that make a city successful. Among these, safe sidewalks, lively parks, and diversity of
uses and users are the most important, and will be the focus of study. This paper will compare and
contrast the changes taking place in the Budlong Woods community with those that are successful
or unsuccessful in other city neighborhoods. Through these comparisons it will be determined
whether the money invested in Budlong Woods will drive the community into prosperity, or like
many other city rehabilitation projects, simply be a waste of money that strips the area of its
diversity and unique characteristics.

what the child said in their own words and pass all the information over to the safeguarding
officer, who will ensure the management is informed and all details recorded are kept
confidential and stored in secure place. We ensure confidentiality is of paramount and that only
information is disclosed about a child we are concerned about to another member of staff is on a

The Value Of A Company s Earning And Profitability
QUESTION 1: RELATIVE PROFITABILITY
There are several ways to measure a company s earning and profitability. Return on Equity ( ROE
) and Return on Assets ( ROA ) are, historically, among the most widely used measures to assess
relative profitability in the banking industry. The technique used in this paper is based on Dr.
Cole s ROE Model. This model helps demystify ROE and ROA; and focuses and analyzes the main
factors that are driving profitability for a bank. For this paper, selected financial data for East
West Bank ( EWB or the Bank ) and its Peer Group ( peers ) was obtained from the December 31,
2013 Uniform Bank Performance Report ( UBPR ) and various EWB documents ; and from
interviews conducted with EWB management . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, EWB s Equity Multiplier ( EM ) is also higher than peers (10.09x vs. 8.88x).
EWB s higher ROE compared to peers highlights a higher rate of return on shareholder s equity;
nonetheless, it does not provide the complete picture in itself. Decomposing the ROE to better
understand the reason for change, it was determined that 42% of EWB s 2013 ROE was due to
leverage, i.e., lower relative equity.
Since ROA growth itself will not yield important insights, nine variables have been identified,
reflecting variances (Bank vs. Peer) for each in Exhibit 1. The following four key drivers out of
the nine have been examined below, to provide a more detailed picture:
1.PROFIT STRENGTHS (HIGHEST POSITIVE VARIANCE)
A.YIELD ON EARNING ASSET ( EA )
Over the past 3 years, EWB s yield on EA has decreased 66 bps from 2011 to 2013 (Exhibit 2). This
is essentially owing to the low interest rate environment and the lower average yield on non
covered loans . EWB s average yield is above peers (Exhibit 1), as EWB used funds more
efficiently; placing a larger proportion of EA (82.47% vs. 68.63%) in higher yielding assets (i.e.,
Gross Loans and Fed Funds Sold Resales); as illustrated in Exhibit 3. EWB s higher yield on gross
loans was attributable to the interest income from the covered loans portfolio, which is due to the
additional accretion accounted for under ASC 310 30. As the covered loan balance continues to
decrease, the overall yield will

Titus Andronicus By William Shakespeare
The play Titus Andronicus by William Shakespeare depicts the Roman Empire from a very
traditional perspective within each of the characters. Shakespeare creates a visual of historical
Rome that includes many blood battles, deception, courage and loyalty not just to Rome and
her people, but to one s family. By doing this, Shakespeare shows the reader that Rome was a
great city of power that revolved around the idea that justice must be of an equivalent manner
suitable to the crime committed by the other party. The word Rome , both historically and in
modern times, is often defined as being the perfect model for an advanced civilization, and
many looked upon Rome and Romans as being examples of excellence for architecture and
political advances within a society . ( Rome , OED Online). The word Rome is seen frequently
throughout the play and is used by almost all of the characters. It is a word that describes what
Roman civilization entails and how the city of Rome can be a very dark and cruel city. The
Roman characters in particular describe the two main concepts of Rome and Roman by means of
traditional birth right and traditional forms of justice. Both meanings are seen frequently amongst
each Roman character. By fully understanding why particular events in the play occur and being
able to see the traditional aspects of the word Rome among each character, it aids the reader in
understanding how the play revolves around the historical context of Roman values of

Add Cake, Subtract Self Esteem Analysis

fertility in a woman. During this time, women were subjugated to being a housewife and nothing

Hip Osteoarthritis Research Paper
What is the Hips joint and how does it move safely?
The hip joint is a ball and socket joint, technically referred to as synovial joint, because the Head of
the Femur, is attached with ligaments. Furthermore, the synovial joint is held together to the socket
of the hip with a strong fibred sleeve, the Capsule and the joint is moved by the muscles in the hip
such as the Piriformis, Gluteus Minimus and Superior gemellus, which allows the hip to move in a
rotation motion.
In addition, the hip is a very important joint/bone dancers use, because the hip is what controls
and holds together the bones dancers have to use constantly, like the legs, the ankle, feet and toes.
However, if the hip in dance is not moved, stretched or aligned properly, that is where danger to

The team at Can Go never discusses the cost of projects and systems. The most word they use is
expensive. They all agree that the ASRS system is going to be expensive and that a market
research will be expensive but they have no specific dollar amount as to what expensive means. The
costs need to be put into measurable units. The project team never runs the numbers by the finance

planning and ensure that the team is keeping expenditures under control and also will give the
team a target of what needs to be accomplished. The first question the team should ask before
undertaking a project is how much is this going to cost and what the value is to the company? The
company needs to have a cost benefit analysis to find out if the cost of the project is justified by
the value and benefit it brings into the organization. The projects are supposed to be approved by

The Importance Of Technology Over Time
Over time the viewpoints regarding technology and the importance of it changes depending on the
different situations of the time. The three texts Feed by M.T Anderson, The Time Machine by H.G

times when they discuss technology. In the novel Feed, the use of a machine that gives access to

Problems:
As written in the case study, earlier the SYSCO operating regions had conducted their own HR
practices without consulting the HR department. This was the big problem and could have led to
negative impact on company s growth. Cooperation between operating managers and the HR
department is extremely important for HR efforts to succeed. HR also known as employee
advocates or company morale officers who serves all employee issues or concerns with managing
organization s strategies and goals. But without the HR advocate role, there could be a risk for
employer to face lawsuits and other regulatory complaints.
Another problem in the SYSCO case study was the safety. Workplace safety and security has
grown in importance along with disaster and recovery planning. Also, with explosive internet
growth, many employees and managers uses social media such as wikis, blogs, tweets and other
techniques. Though it is extremely helpful, but still the risk of social media is apparent. This
could lead to many problems such as leakage of trade secrets, potential customers information and
privacy of all the employees. Increase in safety issues resulted in increase of compensation claims
by workers or other agencies.
A high turnover rate of night shift warehouse workers was another problem faced by the SYSCO.
Recruiting new workers regularly has become a big challenge for SYSCO.

Morality in O’Brien’s Going After Cacciato Essay
Morality in O Brien s Going After Cacciato
Going After Cacciato, by Tim O Brien, is a book that presents many problems in understanding.
Simply trying to figure out what is real and what is fantasy and where they combine can be quite
a strain on the reader. Yet even more clouded and ambiguous are the larger moral questions raised
in this book. There are many so called war crimes or atrocities in this book, ranging from killing a
water buffalo to fragging the commanding officer. Yet they are dealt with in an almost offhanded
way. They seem to become simply the moral landscape upon which a greater drama is played i.e.
the drama of running away from war, seeking peace in Paris. This journey after Cacciato turns into a

This certainly comes out in the fragging incident, when the squad kills Lieutenant Sidney Martin.
But there s something more. Another time, O Brien was quoted as saying, My concerns have to do
with the abstractions: ... How does one do right in an evil situation? (Bates 263). That is the big
question, of course, that this novel deals with. See, the point that O Brien is making is not that war
is an evil situation. He s trying to take that for granted and move beyond. Now that you ve got this
evil situation, what do you do?
Where is the good? In the observation post, Paul Berlin remembered what his father had said on
their last night along the Des Moines River. You ll see some terrible stuff, I guess. That s how it
goes. But try to look for the good things, too. They ll be there if you look. So watch for them (O
Brien 58). So he does look for the good things. That s beauty being born out of despair, if you
will. He enjoys watching the sunrise. And Bates refers to Paul Berlin helping treat a young
Vietnamese girl and having sensitive feelings towards her (270). This is almost as if to say that
war brings out the best as well as the worst in us. Some may argue that it s almost worth it. (
Almost being the key word for clearly the good in a war does not outweigh or even equal the bad.)
Here s where purpose gets involved. Most believe that there is a greater good. Some reason for
fighting the war. Politics. Ideology. The things Paul Berlin thinks

Definition Of Wisdom In Fahrenheit 451
There are many definitions of wisdom but one of the best understanding I have received is that
wisdom is knowledge gained through suffering. Elaine Heath
This quote from Elaine Heath and Larry Duggins book Missional.Monastic.Mainline. mentioned
what I thought of as the quintessential definition of wisdom. Through effort and sacrifice, one can
attain pearls of wisdom such as freedom can t be bought cheap, it s better to die with knowledge
than to live in ignorance, and ignorance is bliss only for those whose minds are vacant of the
veracity of facts.
Freedom is the foundation of western democracies and the fundamental argument that people have
the unalienable right to live as they choose and it is undeniable that freedom can t be bought cheap.
This is true since freedom is the reason for the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil
War, etc.In Fahrenheit 451, the value of freedom is illustrated in Montag s conversation with
Mildred after he witnessed the immolation of the old lady where he verbalizes his frustration by
saying There must be something in books, things we can t imagine, to make a woman stay in a
burning house; there must be something there. (Bradbury 48) In this quote, we can see that the
lady choose to stay with her books, a symbol of freedom and knowledge, which emphasized the
idea that freedom is worth giving one s life to protect. During the Civil War Civil War and Jim

Shopping Mall
CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW This chapter reviews the related literature and conceptual
framework of this study. The literature review cover the shopping behaviour, shopping value,
consumer s decision making styles, perceived shopping mall image, shopping mall brand loyalty
and consumer segmentation. The conceptual framework of this study will be explained in the end
of this chapter. 2.1 Shopping behaviour This section is attempts to provide an explanation on
consumer shopping behaviour by review the previous study on the previous literature. Shopping is
one of the distinct activities of consumer behaviour (Tauber, 1972) and shopping behaviour is a
distinctive form of consumer behaviour (Asseel, 1987). According to Tauber (1972, p... Show more

Also according to Zaffar, Ghingold, and Zainurin (2006), two consumers may shop at the same
stores for similar reasons, e.g. convenience, courteous help nice dГ©cor, etc., but one consumer
my find shopping a burden, something to be done quickly within a minimum of effort while
another may enjoy shopping, engaging in it as sport by achieving the satisfaction of buying a
desired item at a bargain price. This latter consumer does not mind spending time searching for
alternatives. Shopping involves much more than eye sight and foot. That is what Paco Underhill
(1999, p 161) said, shopping is... the kind of activity I mean involves experiencing that portion of
the world that has been deemed for sale, using our senses sight, touch, smell, taste, hearing as the
basis for choosing this or rejecting that...virtually all unplanned purchases and many planned ones,
too come as a result of the shopper seeing, touching, smelling or tasting something that promise
pleasure, if not total fulfillment. It can seen that individual go shopping for some other reasons,
beside to acquire a product, they also shop for non purchase reasons such as looking for social
interaction, sensory stimulation, learning for new rends and even exercise. That is, consumer can
shop for utilitarian reasons related to achieving specific purchase goals. Alternatively, they can shop
for hedonic reasons related to having fun.

A New Progressive Movement And Naji Essay
The lives of Abu Ali al Kilawi and Naji were drastically changed by the rapid modernization of
Syria for Ali and Iraq for Naji. Abu and Naji s lives changed in unique ways of one another,
considering the different ways the two states modernized, the influences of the country occupying
them and the social and economic statuses of the men within those states. In order to understand the
ways in which Abu and Naji s lives changed it is necessary to analyze the way in which the
community evolved during the time of modernization, the specific role the two individuals held
within the community before the development, and finally connect these two ideas and interpret
how the individuals lives were subsequently affected by modernization. Abu loses his status and
role to play in society to a new progressive movement and Naji faces discrimination based on his
Jewish faith because of the spreading anti semitic ideology. First, understanding the way in which
the community in Syriawas set up and how it worked during the time of modernization is essential.
At the beginning of modernizing Syria, was a failed revolution against the French military. This
failure morphed popular opinion on how to progress forward as a nation. Rather than attempting to
dispel the French from Syria, Syrians decided it was their only option to work side by side with the
French through diplomacy. This new found group built strictly on forming diplomatic relationships
with the French government became called

The Theory of Evolution
Running Head: EVOLUTION The Theory of Evolution By Student s Name Name of University
Charles Darwin s theory of evolution has been a topic of controversy since it was promulgated in
the late 1800s. Nonetheless, its tenets remain strong, with many modern day scientists making
discoveries that support Darwin s theories of evolution, natural selection, and survival of the fittest.
In The Origin of Species, Darwin calls the process of natural selection or survival of the fittest, the
preservation of favorable individual differences and variations, and the destruction of those, which
are injurious (Darwin, 1901). Darwin s theory of evolutionary change and process of natural
selection surmises that variations exist in every... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theory of evolution will always be debated, but new scientific discoveries that support the
theory cannot be disputed. Therefore, Darwin s theory has stood the test of time, which is a
great accomplishment in this ever changing world of new discoveries and scientific innovations.

The Pros And Cons Of Traditional Textbooks
Electronic textbooks are better than traditional print textbooks
The progress of electronic textbooks induces the discussion on whether electronic textbooks
perform better than traditional print textbooks. It oriented in the Project Gutenberg using computer
to carry information in 1971 (Embong et al., 2012). According to the Oxford Advanced Learner s
dictionary (as cited in Embong, Noor, Hashim, Ali, Shaari, 2012), electronic book is defined as a
book that is displayed on a computer screen or on an electronic device that is held in the hand,
instead of being printed on paper. It is in multiple electronic formats . However, electronic books
and electronic textbooks can be classified by the purpose of reading; an extra goal in education is
included in electronic textbooks (Daniel Woody, 2013). Consequently, electronic book can be
referred as electronically available ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the study done by Daniel and Woody (2013), multi tasking is favored under electronic
conditions when reading at home, and students spend more time to read when compared from
printed textbook. Competing activities are regarded as the potential reason of this scenario, student
are found to have a higher likelihood being distracted by computer based competing activities (e.g.
email, social platform) and people surrounded them (Daniel Woody, 2013). Possible differences in
students interacting with print and electronic textbook exist, including subjective fatigue and text
scanning patterns (Daniel Woody, 2013). Young mentioned that feeling of disjoint is reported when
reading the electronic text (as cited in Sheppered, Grace, Koch, 2008). Skimming of text is
commonly found even the reader prefer to read the whole text. The readiness of distraction and the
difference in reading pattern may hinder the reading process, thus increase in the time spent on

Introduction
Cell fractionation is a very important procedure in cell biology and can be very useful for studying
different organelles. By fractionating, we mean separating or dividing the cell into different

A fraction that has high content of the specific organelle and low contamination by other organelles
is desired however a fraction with highly purified mitochondria is better even if the most
mitochondria is found in other fractions. The purity of mitochondrial fractions is usually
determined by enzyme marker detection assay(Hajek et al 2004). In our experiment we will use
differential centrifugation to isolate the mitochondria of cauliflower and then assay SDH activity
using a fixed time assay. We will then measure protein content in our fractions and calculate specific
activity and total activity of our fractions.
Materials and Methods
Mitochondrial Isolating
We used to florets from the cauliflower and disrupted the cell walls using a cold isolation buffer
(0.3 M D mannitol, 0.02 M phosphate buffer, pH 7.2) and an abrasive, we then strained the
homogenate with cheesecloth into a centrifuge tube suppoerted by ice. The homogenate was then
centrifuged at 600 g for 10 minutes at 4вЃ°C. The postnuclear supernatant was removed and
centrifuged at 12,000 g for 30 minutes at 4вЃ°C. The post mitochondrial supernatant was removed
and the mitochondrial pellet was resuspended in a cold assay buffer (0.3 M D mannitol, 0.01 M
KCl, 0.005 M MgClв‚‚, 0.02 M phosphate buffer, pH 7.2). Both samples were stored at

The Increase Of The Mc Influenced Fi And Bwg Table 5
Experimental data
Results confirmed that MC was the limiting amino acids in the respective dilution series. The
increase of levels of the MC influenced FI and BWG Table 5. The maximum FI could be observed
between the second and the forth levels in the initial phase, first and second level in growing and
finish phase to male and female broiler fed with increased level of MC.
The increase inclusion of MC in the feed caused a range in MCi between lower and upper levels
in female broiler of 23.16 initial, 407.72 grower, 775.97 mg/bird.day in finish phase and 242.04,
463.99 and 904.84 mg/bird.day initial, grower and finish phase in male, respectively. The range
of BWG in female was: 18.78 initial, 27.11 grower, 30.72 g/bird.day in finish phase and male
broiler: 20.06, 34.67 and 45.92 g/bird.day during initial, growing and finish phase, respectively. It
is possible observed that the males have higher range of responses in BWG and MCi in the three
phases studied when compared to female s broiler. For BWG is observed that the plateau is
reached between the fourth and fifth levels of MC.
Parameters of monomolecular
The responses of MCi to BWG was studied in three rearing phases in both sexes through of the
nonlinear model. The range of the responses of experimental data were enough to adjust the
function with good fit. The monomolecular model estimated the BWG.max in 30, 64.9 and 89 (g
/day) in female and 32.0, 73.7 and 116.1 (g/day) for male initial, grower and finisher phase,

  • 2. Who Is Abraham Lincoln The Best President The best U.S President is Abraham Lincoln because he did his best to free all the slaves of the Confederate states or better known as the South. Lincoln was famous for his actions against civil injustice and passed a law called the Emancipation Proclamation. Also, Lincoln lead the Union army against the Confederates in the Civil War. Once the Civil War ended he never stopped trying to fight for all African American rights. I believe that Abraham Lincoln is the best United States President because once he won the election of 1860, he caused some chaos in the southern states. He became unpopular to some but he stayed focused and determined. Lincoln, while in office wanted to change the world by trying to give slaves: civil rights, fair ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Richard Wagner Characteristics We are still waiting for the man who can compose and write a genuine opera. (Furness 14). That man was Wilhelm Richard Wagner he was known for his operas and other compositions which influenced many other composers. Wagner wrote many amazing operas, compositions, and poetic lyrics. Some think he wasn t so important, but some even think he was one of the best holding him up to Beethoven for his compositions (Furness 7). Wagner s best composition from his career is a composition called Der Rings Des Nibelungen, which is a composition that is eighteen hours long and four operas which had reoccurring themes connecting them all together. Firstly, Richard Wagner was born on May 22 ,1813 in Leipzig, Germany. Wagner had eight siblings, five sisters and three brothers. He never had much talent in music when he was attending a school in Dresden, Germany. He played the piano a horrible way and his teacher told him he wouldn t be much because he couldn t manage to play properly (Newman 46). He had trouble understanding the terms of the music as a child he knew what they use where he just didn t know how they were announced. He also struggled in his life when it came to see who his father was even some would say Richard s facial features resembled his father Carl Friedrich Wagner who passed away just months after he was born, but an actor named Ludwig Geyer who married Wagner s mother was on the list of whether he was the father or not. While the only thing they compared Richard ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social Change in lifestyle Acording to Euromonitor International data Obesity has become one of the buzzwords of the early 21st century. The statistics are indeed worrying, particularly in the Anglo Saxon world. While many consumers are leading increasingly sedentary lifestyles and consuming a diet heavy in calorie dense foods, a growing number are fighting back against the prevailing trend, participating more in sports and unafraid to spend significant amounts of money in pursuit of their passion, which for some has become something of a lifestyle accoutrement. a growing number of middle aged men in this age group are participating in more intensive activities, such as triathlon. This group of consumers also tends to have significant levels of discretionary income, which is very useful in a sport where equipment must be purchased for three separate disciplines (swimming, cycling and running). In the UK, some affluent middle aged men are opting for high end road bikes, rather than cars. Children are now participating in organised sport almost as soon as they walk on the basis that learning basic skills. • 6. Toy Soldiers War Strength Research Paper If you re not familiar with tower defence games, Toy Soldiers: War Chest is the perfect introduction into the genre. It is the third installment in the series, developed by Signal Studios and published by Ubisoft. Toy Soldiers: War Chest is incredibly simplistic and easy to get into. The tutorial introduces you into the games mechanics by letting you play through a series of waves where enemy units attack from multiple directions. You re objective is to simply defend your toy box by setting up turrets in specific locations, with your defensive strategy alternaternating to counter what kind of enemy unit is advancing on you. A countdown timer to the right of the screen gives you ample time to prepare for the next attack, and informs you what is approaching.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since each wave continuously changes, you have to upgrade, or alter what kind of weaponry you have defending specific parts of the battlefield. Turrets can be customised by adding sandbags for defence, or upgrading the ammo. The ability to man the turrets is a cool feature that adds an extra dimension to the game. If you wipe out enough of the oncoming enemy forces, your attack meter charges allowing you to take control of one of the many toy heros you can choose from such as He Man, or call in a bomb strike from a zeppelin. Everyday there is always a crime story taking place in the news or in the daily newspaper. It is difficult for individuals to not be drawn to negativity happening in their community. There are many different ideas on how to solve the crimeproblems that are happening in our country. First we need to have stricter punishment and stick to it for all criminals. Many of the criminals are getting off with little to no punishment, which sometimes they become repeat offenders. This incident added to the fire that was roaring underneath the CIA something had to be done about Kennedy. The Mafia is also a key suspect in this assassination. Especially Carlos Marcello, who was the mob boss in New Orleans he was deported because of Attorney General Robert Kennedy, President Kennedy s brother (Sherer April 1991). Robert Kennedy focused much of his time on getting rid of organized crime, and he did a pretty good job. In the Web Site Who Murdered JFK and Why? Marcello was quoted saying that President Kennedy was like a dog and Bobby Kennedy was his tail. The dog will keep biting you if you only cut off its tail, but cut off the head and the dog will die, tail and all. I would say that s a pretty good analogy of what happened. If President Kennedy were to die, then Robert Kennedy wouldn t be able to keep going after the mob. The definition of health is dependent on one s perspective, be it lay, professional or from influences of specific cultures or social ideals and health policies of a particular time or place (Fleming Parker 2012, p.30, Naidoo Wills 2000). An exploration through history will reflect on the health philosophies of the ancient Greeks and Romans, the Middle Age s concept of quarantine and isolation and the religious theories of disease including a brief insight into the renaissance. The Greek scholar Hippocrates (c.460BC c.370BC), defined the humoral conception of health, [the Four Humours], with the balance of these being responsible for health, interacting together with lifestyle and environment, including individual constitution, clean air, diet and clean water. He noted in his writings, regarding the workers and slaves, that neglect of diet affected their health, yet, work was not considered an influencing factor on humoral balance (Tountas 2009, p.186 187, Fleming Parker 2012, p.28, Turner 2000, p.13, Krieger, pp.43 44, Noviik and morrow, 2008, p.5). Others such as Empedocles, Aristotle and later Galen extended Hippocratic humoral theory to link other elements (Hays 2009, pp.9 13). No matter which variation, these theories were an attempt to rationalise individual incidents of sickness and the differences in health status in the populace in relation to underlying principles and environmental exposures (Krieger, p.46). According to Krieger (2011, p.47) Greek politics had influence stating not only nature but politics informed the conceptualization of balance in Greek humoral theory . Tountas (2009, p.187) noted that ancient Greek physicians were itinerant craftsmen, earning their reputation for skill from the successes of previous visits (Veith 1980, p.532). • 11. Stressors Definition Stressors have been an important aspect of our class journals each week through the semester. Which leads to the question of where do these stressors come from and why? Stressors are a source of strain that has both an objective and subjective view. Objectively, in a work setting it is based on how much you put into the work and the number of hours you are completing. Whereas subjectively, involves more of the perception of the work and how the work is being done. Strain is the response to these stressors, which include behavioral, physical and psychological aspects. Behavioral strain has an impact on a person s ability to perform in the work place and how their feelings have an impact on the quality of the performance. A physical response is when something is concretely happening to you and you can feel the strain and pressure from the outcome. The third response is almost a final point of how a person feels which is psychological. They are burned out mentally and result in anxiety and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 12. The Truth Behind The Columbine Shooting America s star detective Michael Moore has done it again! In this edition, he uncovers the truth behind the Columbine shooting, and exposes the real menaces of America s society. Or this is what we are led to believe... The Columbine Shooting has solidified itself as a tragic event in America s past, and was a real wake up call to the nation s age old gun problem. Michael Moore looks into this issue and decides it provides a great premise for his next documentary, his next crusade to flush out the evils of this world. The problem is, Bowling for Columbine is far from the truth; it is rather a distorted representation of reality, carefully sequenced to push Michael Moore s agenda. If we look past the film techniques, conspiracy theories, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To offer an explanation as to how America got to this barbaric stage , an animated short, courtesy of Matt Stone is played, which takes a satirical approach to the story of America s gun laws. The general idea put across from this segment is that America s obsession with guns has transpired from a fear of the black man; where it even went as far to suggest that the KKK negotiated with the NRA to restrict black people s possession of a firearm. Moore then proposes that this fear has appeared in many different forms, and that of which has been orchestrated by the government and large corporations to boost consumerism. A hypothesis like this does seem plausible, however there is no tangible evidence to reinforce this claim, just a lot of emotional appeal. The majority of the documentary is spent proving this theory that Moore has ingeniously managed to synthesise. Whether it is fear of the black man during slavery, fear of terrorists after 9/11 or fear of teenagers after the Columbine Shooting; there is always a reason for America to worry. Moore shows us that when people are scared, they look for ways to protect themselves, causing them to spend money; shown by the increase in homeland security after 9/11, which also was apparently caused by the CIA supplying Osama Bin Laden with weaponry and tactical training that was later used against the USA. He then investigates the media s role in inflating these issues, stirring the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Figurative Language In A Rose For Emily Love is a rubber band: you have it for quite a while and then it snaps and it is gone forever until you come across another. Similarly, in the short story, A Rose for Emily, Faulkner characterizes Emily as a lonely and bitter woman who tries to find love and keep that love in sync forever. Through the discovery of Homer in Emily s house after her death, Faulkner conveys to the audience that lovecan fall into the wrong hands when one is desperately seeking out for the need of comfort and affection. In the beginning the town characterized Miss Emily as the bitter old lady who never found love. Through this characterization the story would foreshadow what is to come. After the death of her sweetheart (before Homer) she started to seclude herself from the town. The love she had towards that man had vanished and corrupted her emotions towards other people. Faulkner implied that Miss Emily was never to love again due to all the devastations she s experienced. He chose to write it in first person point of view to show the towns opinions on how Miss Emily is reacting and how her actions show desperate need of company. Before meeting Homer, Miss Emily felt alone and she did not let anyone from town help her recuperate from her losses. She was in distraught. The use of figurative language expresses the attitude Miss Emily has towards the town. She is intimidating in which point the townspeople obey on what she asks. From 1910, the start of the Mexican Revolution and World War I when President Theodore Roosevelt instituted the brown scare (Coerver, 2001), to 1913, when the California Alien Land Act prohibited Japanese immigrants and citizens of Japanese descent from owning land in California, to 1934, when 3000 Chinese immigrants were displaced to make way for Union Station, to 1942, when 110,000 Japanese Americans were forced into internment camps, Los Angeles has historically been the center of racial controversy and tension ( Year by Year, 1999). In 1943, Los Angeles was also full of young African Americans and Mexican Americans trying to protest the racism in the American culture by expressing themselves with their own music, clothing, culture, and style (Cosgrove, 1985). By the time of the Sleepy Lagoon murder in 1942, the stage had been set for the Zoot SuitRiots that occurred in June 1943. Although the riots only lasted ten days, the ramifications ranged from cultural repression on the part of many Mexican Americanfamilies, to political activism on the part of others, and the beginning of reform within the Los Angeles Police Department. • 17. A Research Study On Relational Database Technology Abstract. In this report I will introduce the Memcached technology and provide more details about it. In addition, I will explain how it works and how it differs than relational database technology. Furthermore, I will use the finding of the paper Performance Evaluation of a Clustered Memcached to present how Memcached can improve the performance of the web applications. The paper that I did study is about a simulation project of using three different architectures of Memcached. The simulation results will monitor the CPU and RAM usability of all the nodes in these three architectures. I will explain the results and will discuss the findings of their results. The relational database technology dominated the web applications for more than 30 years. This technology is able to handle limited load to the database. However, the internet technologies and the advents of the smart phones make the web applications to be accessible by many users and from any location that is covered by the internet connectivity. In addition, currently, the web data in the internet is dominated by the social networking and social media applications which include: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and others. This kind of web applications will likely be prone to the high load of the database layer. French and English Canadians had many differences throughout history, and as time got closer to the 21st century, situations between these two groups of people got worse and worse. Their main differences, as seen in the visual component of my CPT, were usually around times of war, when conscription was a very big topic. However, we cannot forget the post World War II situations that caused Canadato change forever. This act allowed for French Canadians to no longer be seen as a minority in Canada and to finally be recognized for who they are. Having Prime Minister Trudeau work very hard to pass this act showed French Canadians that the Federal Government had finally recognized all the injustices directed towards them, and that there was no longer any need for fighting between French and English Canadians. The first chapter is about several men who get stranded on a deserted island. While their ship is in the process of crashing into land, Crane describes the cruel waves. The horizon narrowed and widened, and dipped and rose, and at all times it s edge was jagged with waves that seemed thrust up in points like rocks . With much hesitation, Crane subtly foreshadows the future events. Such as in the quote We re not there yet , said the oiler, in the stern . The oiler said they aren t there yet many times throughout chapter one. This is the author casually foreshadowing. Chapter two expounds some serious events, such as their boat detouring East instead of South into severe waves. Despite the storm, however, the author exhibits much humor within the characters. • 20. The Importance Of Creationism And Intelligent Design Creationism and Intelligent Design theories should be taught in public schools with evolution. The idea that students should hear both sides of the evolution debate enjoys widespread popular support. An opinion poll from the Pew Forum on Religion in Public Life revealed that nearly two thirds of Americans believe that creationism, in some form, should be taught alongside evolution (Warnick, 2009, p. 305). Creation and Intelligent Design theories should be taught in public schools, with evolution. Teaching about evolution with no clarity of how or if it fits with biblical creation can cause confusion, especially for students raised in only a biblical creationist setting may not know if the two are reconcilable. Teaching about just creationism without clarifying how or if the two are reconcilable causes the same situation as above. (b) Statements in clear language that show why the issue is important. While normally this would be related to culture, social science or philosophy, it matters here because both creationism and science teach origins of life. There are many Christians who would like to know about creationism and evolution, and students should be able to learn about each. Because of these reasons, both should be taught so the students are exposed to diverse information and perspectives so they can decide for themselves. The debate on teaching creationism, evolution, or both in public schools has been an issue in the United States since the Scopes Monkey Trial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Comparing Judaism, Christianity And Islam Rui Lu Professor Jennifer Dournaux HUM2210 01 October 2016 Compare and Contrast of Judaism, Christianity and Islam There have been a variety of conflicts in the world since the beginning of the human civilization, many of which get their roots from the beliefs of their different religions. In order to understand and eliminate the conflicts originated from different religions, it is important to take a look at the similarities and differences among Judaism, Christianity and Islam. As the largest three monotheistic religions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam all believe in one God and the uniqueness of that God. At the same time, there are some differences among their beliefs in God. According to 1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear record ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Christianity, Jesus is considered to be the Word of God whose word should be worshipped and followed without question. As the founder of Christianity and the second entity of the Trinity, Jesus acts as the leader of The Christian Faith. In Sermon on the Mount, Jesus delivered the doctrine to the people, to tell them what to do and what not to do. In Nicene Creed, ...For our sake he was crucified...he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again...he ascended into heaven... As the medium between God and human beings, Jesus does not only deliver Word of God, but also sacrificed himself for all the sins of mankind. He fulfilled his mission to reconcile man to God. Unlike Christianity, Judaism and Islam do not think Jesus is god. Muslims take Jesus, called Isa in The Quran, as the most important prophet who was sent by Allah and born of the Virgin Mary, but not divine. He was sent to proclaim the gospel that has been corrupted over time by human additions and alterations. After Jesus fulfilled his mission, he was was raised to Heaven by Allah. Since the belief of the absolute unity and oneness of God, Judaism forbids the worship of any person as idolatry. In Hebrew Bible, Jesus is less important than he is in Quran. He is considered an ordinary Jew who is either messiah (a king or High Priest traditionally anointed with holy anointing oil) or nor a divine person. Almost nobody had been able to move away from the fields to cities, and people in the cities had almost never wanted to stop being a craftsman to begin a new life as a farmer. Although the latter point remains true to this day, the former has been dramatically altered. With innovations in agriculture as simple as hardened iron plows and better irrigation, slightly more people could make their homes in cities. With the innovation of steam power and the reaper in the late 18th and early 19th century, many more people had to leave farming as farm production increased to join in the steam powered industry in the cites. This created a great migration from farms to cities where farmers learned a low skill, low wage trade in a highly productive factory, out producing high skilled artisans of the same vein. With such high production in so many niches of the market, people could actually purchase nonessentials despite earning less money from working in a factory; money was actually worth more. Because living in a city had become cheaper, more farmers were attracted to come to work in a city further increasing this migration. This migration is still happening today in China. Chinese are moving from agricultural to urban areas for the same reasons americans and europeans have been doing since the 17th century. Return on Equity ( ROE ) and Return on Assets ( ROA ) are, historically, among the most widely used measures to assess relative profitability in the banking industry. The technique used in this paper is based on Dr. Cole s ROE Model. This model helps demystify ROE and ROA; and focuses and analyzes the main factors that are driving profitability for a bank. For this paper, selected financial data for East West Bank ( EWB or the Bank ) and its Peer Group ( peers ) was obtained from the December 31, 2013 Uniform Bank Performance Report ( UBPR ) and various EWB documents ; and from interviews conducted with EWB management . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, EWB s Equity Multiplier ( EM ) is also higher than peers (10.09x vs. 8.88x). EWB s higher ROE compared to peers highlights a higher rate of return on shareholder s equity; nonetheless, it does not provide the complete picture in itself. Decomposing the ROE to better understand the reason for change, it was determined that 42% of EWB s 2013 ROE was due to leverage, i.e., lower relative equity. Since ROA growth itself will not yield important insights, nine variables have been identified, reflecting variances (Bank vs. Peer) for each in Exhibit 1. The following four key drivers out of the nine have been examined below, to provide a more detailed picture: 1.PROFIT STRENGTHS (HIGHEST POSITIVE VARIANCE) A.YIELD ON EARNING ASSET ( EA ) Over the past 3 years, EWB s yield on EA has decreased 66 bps from 2011 to 2013 (Exhibit 2). This is essentially owing to the low interest rate environment and the lower average yield on non covered loans . EWB s average yield is above peers (Exhibit 1), as EWB used funds more efficiently; placing a larger proportion of EA (82.47% vs. 68.63%) in higher yielding assets (i.e., Gross Loans and Fed Funds Sold Resales); as illustrated in Exhibit 3. EWB s higher yield on gross loans was attributable to the interest income from the covered loans portfolio, which is due to the additional accretion accounted for under ASC 310 30. Shakespeare creates a visual of historical Rome that includes many blood battles, deception, courage and loyalty not just to Rome and her people, but to one s family. By doing this, Shakespeare shows the reader that Rome was a great city of power that revolved around the idea that justice must be of an equivalent manner suitable to the crime committed by the other party. The word Rome , both historically and in modern times, is often defined as being the perfect model for an advanced civilization, and many looked upon Rome and Romans as being examples of excellence for architecture and political advances within a society . ( Rome , OED Online). The word Rome is seen frequently throughout the play and is used by almost all of the characters. It is a word that describes what Roman civilization entails and how the city of Rome can be a very dark and cruel city. The Roman characters in particular describe the two main concepts of Rome and Roman by means of traditional birth right and traditional forms of justice. There are many so called war crimes or atrocities in this book, ranging from killing a water buffalo to fragging the commanding officer. Yet they are dealt with in an almost offhanded way. That is the big question, of course, that this novel deals with. See, the point that O Brien is making is not that war is an evil situation. He s trying to take that for granted and move beyond. Now that you ve got this evil situation, what do you do? Where is the good? In the observation post, Paul Berlin remembered what his father had said on their last night along the Des Moines River. And Bates refers to Paul Berlin helping treat a young Vietnamese girl and having sensitive feelings towards her (270). This is almost as if to say that war brings out the best as well as the worst in us. Some may argue that it s almost worth it. • 41. Definition Of Wisdom In Fahrenheit 451 There are many definitions of wisdom but one of the best understanding I have received is that wisdom is knowledge gained through suffering. Elaine Heath This quote from Elaine Heath and Larry Duggins book Missional.Monastic.Mainline. mentioned what I thought of as the quintessential definition of wisdom. Through effort and sacrifice, one can attain pearls of wisdom such as freedom can t be bought cheap, it s better to die with knowledge than to live in ignorance, and ignorance is bliss only for those whose minds are vacant of the veracity of facts. Freedom is the foundation of western democracies and the fundamental argument that people have the unalienable right to live as they choose and it is undeniable that freedom can t be bought cheap. This is true since freedom is the reason for the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War, etc.In Fahrenheit 451, the value of freedom is illustrated in Montag s conversation with Mildred after he witnessed the immolation of the old lady where he verbalizes his frustration by saying There must be something in books, things we can t imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there must be something there. (Bradbury 48) In this quote, we can see that the lady choose to stay with her books, a symbol of freedom and knowledge, which emphasized the idea that freedom is worth giving one s life to protect. During the Civil War Civil War and Jim Crow era (1865 1965) African Americans had to fight for their, long ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Shopping Mall CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW This chapter reviews the related literature and conceptual framework of this study. The literature review cover the shopping behaviour, shopping value, consumer s decision making styles, perceived shopping mall image, shopping mall brand loyalty and consumer segmentation. The conceptual framework of this study will be explained in the end of this chapter. 2.1 Shopping behaviour This section is attempts to provide an explanation on consumer shopping behaviour by review the previous study on the previous literature. Shopping is one of the distinct activities of consumer behaviour (Tauber, 1972) and shopping behaviour is a distinctive form of consumer behaviour (Asseel, 1987). According to Tauber (1972, p... This latter consumer does not mind spending time searching for alternatives. Shopping involves much more than eye sight and foot. That is what Paco Underhill (1999, p 161) said, shopping is... the kind of activity I mean involves experiencing that portion of the world that has been deemed for sale, using our senses sight, touch, smell, taste, hearing as the basis for choosing this or rejecting that...virtually all unplanned purchases and many planned ones, too come as a result of the shopper seeing, touching, smelling or tasting something that promise pleasure, if not total fulfillment. It can seen that individual go shopping for some other reasons, beside to acquire a product, they also shop for non purchase reasons such as looking for social interaction, sensory stimulation, learning for new rends and even exercise. That is, consumer can shop for utilitarian reasons related to achieving specific purchase goals. Alternatively, they can shop for hedonic reasons related to having fun. ... • 43. A New Progressive Movement And Naji Essay The lives of Abu Ali al Kilawi and Naji were drastically changed by the rapid modernization of Syria for Ali and Iraq for Naji. Abu and Naji s lives changed in unique ways of one another, considering the different ways the two states modernized, the influences of the country occupying them and the social and economic statuses of the men within those states. In order to understand the ways in which Abu and Naji s lives changed it is necessary to analyze the way in which the community evolved during the time of modernization, the specific role the two individuals held within the community before the development, and finally connect these two ideas and interpret how the individuals lives were subsequently affected by modernization. Abu loses his status and role to play in society to a new progressive movement and Naji faces discrimination based on his Jewish faith because of the spreading anti semitic ideology. First, understanding the way in which the community in Syriawas set up and how it worked during the time of modernization is essential. At the beginning of modernizing Syria, was a failed revolution against the French military. This failure morphed popular opinion on how to progress forward as a nation. Rather than attempting to dispel the French from Syria, Syrians decided it was their only option to work side by side with the French through diplomacy. This new found group built strictly on forming diplomatic relationships with the French government became called ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Theory of Evolution Running Head: EVOLUTION The Theory of Evolution By Student s Name Name of University Charles Darwin s theory of evolution has been a topic of controversy since it was promulgated in the late 1800s. Nonetheless, its tenets remain strong, with many modern day scientists making discoveries that support Darwin s theories of evolution, natural selection, and survival of the fittest. In The Origin of Species, Darwin calls the process of natural selection or survival of the fittest, the preservation of favorable individual differences and variations, and the destruction of those, which are injurious (Darwin, 1901). Darwin s theory of evolutionary change and process of natural selection surmises that variations exist in every... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 45. The Pros And Cons Of Traditional Textbooks Electronic textbooks are better than traditional print textbooks The progress of electronic textbooks induces the discussion on whether electronic textbooks perform better than traditional print textbooks. It oriented in the Project Gutenberg using computer to carry information in 1971 (Embong et al., 2012). According to the Oxford Advanced Learner s dictionary (as cited in Embong, Noor, Hashim, Ali, Shaari, 2012), electronic book is defined as a book that is displayed on a computer screen or on an electronic device that is held in the hand, instead of being printed on paper. It is in multiple electronic formats . However, electronic books and electronic textbooks can be classified by the purpose of reading; an extra goal in education is included in electronic textbooks (Daniel Woody, 2013). Consequently, electronic book can be referred as electronically available ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the study done by Daniel and Woody (2013), multi tasking is favored under electronic conditions when reading at home, and students spend more time to read when compared from printed textbook. Competing activities are regarded as the potential reason of this scenario, student are found to have a higher likelihood being distracted by computer based competing activities (e.g. email, social platform) and people surrounded them (Daniel Woody, 2013). Possible differences in students interacting with print and electronic textbook exist, including subjective fatigue and text scanning patterns (Daniel Woody, 2013). Young mentioned that feeling of disjoint is reported when reading the electronic text (as cited in Sheppered, Grace, Koch, 2008). Skimming of text is commonly found even the reader prefer to read the whole text. Introduction Cell fractionation is a very important procedure in cell biology and can be very useful for studying different organelles. By fractionating, we mean separating or dividing the cell into different component parts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A fraction that has high content of the specific organelle and low contamination by other organelles is desired however a fraction with highly purified mitochondria is better even if the most mitochondria is found in other fractions. The purity of mitochondrial fractions is usually determined by enzyme marker detection assay(Hajek et al 2004). In our experiment we will use differential centrifugation to isolate the mitochondria of cauliflower and then assay SDH activity using a fixed time assay. We will then measure protein content in our fractions and calculate specific activity and total activity of our fractions. Materials and Methods Mitochondrial Isolating We used to florets from the cauliflower and disrupted the cell walls using a cold isolation buffer (0.3 M D mannitol, 0.02 M phosphate buffer, pH 7.2) and an abrasive, we then strained the homogenate with cheesecloth into a centrifuge tube suppoerted by ice. The homogenate was then centrifuged at 600 g for 10 minutes at 4вЃ°C. The postnuclear supernatant was removed and centrifuged at 12,000 g for 30 minutes at 4вЃ°C. The post mitochondrial supernatant was removed and the mitochondrial pellet was resuspended in a cold assay buffer (0.3 M D mannitol, 0.01 M KCl, 0.005 M MgClв‚‚, 0.02 M phosphate buffer, pH 7.2). • 47. The Increase Of The Mc Influenced Fi And Bwg Table 5 Experimental data Results confirmed that MC was the limiting amino acids in the respective dilution series. The increase of levels of the MC influenced FI and BWG Table 5. The maximum FI could be observed between the second and the forth levels in the initial phase, first and second level in growing and finish phase to male and female broiler fed with increased level of MC. The increase inclusion of MC in the feed caused a range in MCi between lower and upper levels in female broiler of 23.16 initial, 407.72 grower, 775.97 mg/bird.day in finish phase and 242.04, 463.99 and 904.84 mg/bird.day initial, grower and finish phase in male, respectively. The range of BWG in female was: 18.78 initial, 27.11 grower, 30.72 g/bird.day in finish phase and male broiler: 20.06, 34.67 and 45.92 g/bird.day during initial, growing and finish phase, respectively. It is possible observed that the males have higher range of responses in BWG and MCi in the three phases studied when compared to female s broiler. For BWG is observed that the plateau is reached between the fourth and fifth levels of MC. Parameters of monomolecular The responses of MCi to BWG was studied in three rearing phases in both sexes through of the nonlinear model. The range of the responses of experimental data were enough to adjust the function with good fit. The monomolecular model estimated the BWG.max in 30, 64.9 and 89 (g /day) in female and 32.0, 73.7 and 116.1 (g/day) for male initial, grower and finisher phase, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
