Functional Movement Screen Reduces InjuriesJA Larson
1) Injuries are a major health issue for the US military, costing over 1.8 million medical encounters annually. Physical training and sports injuries have a particularly high impact on military readiness.
2) Intrinsic risk factors for injury include prior injuries, fitness levels, anatomical issues, and behaviors. Extrinsic factors include excessive loads, poor equipment, training techniques, and environments.
3) The Functional Movement Screen is a screening tool used to identify movement dysfunctions and asymmetries that may put individuals at higher risk for injury. Addressing limitations found in the screen can help improve mobility, movement quality, and injury prevention.
This document outlines the syllabus for a Master of Physiotherapy (MPT) program offered by Veer Narmad South Gujarat University. The 2-year full-time program consists of classroom teaching, clinical training, and a dissertation. The first year (MPT-I) focuses on basic sciences, diagnosis, treatment approaches, and research methodology. The second year (MPT-II) allows students to specialize in an area and complete their dissertation. The program is divided into papers that are assessed through written exams, practical exams, oral exams, and a dissertation evaluation. The document provides details on admission criteria, attendance requirements, examination schedules, and the course content for each paper.
Peyton, a 77-year-old man, underwent a physical fitness evaluation which found his lower body strength, aerobic endurance, upper body strength, lower body flexibility, and motor agility/dynamic balance to be in the lowest percentiles compared to other men his age. He has had numerous health issues in recent years including falls, infections, heart failure, and strokes. The evaluation showed that a lack of physical activity over his lifetime likely contributed to his current poor physical fitness and health problems.
This document discusses different types of Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthoses (KAFOs). It describes conventional KAFOs, thermoplastic KAFOs, and hybrid KAFOs. Conventional KAFOs are indicated when minimum strength is needed, while thermoplastic KAFOs provide maximum control and lightweight support. Hybrid KAFOs combine features of conventional and thermoplastic braces. The document also outlines ischial weight-bearing and stance phase control KAFOs, which provide weight relief and stable knee support during walking.
This document provides guidance on designing resistance training programs for muscular strength and endurance. It discusses the principles of resistance training, including specificity of training and progressive overload. When planning a workout, a needs analysis should be conducted considering a client's history, goals and preferences. Key variables to consider include exercise selection and order, training frequency, load and repetitions, volume, and rest periods. A variety of methods can be used to progress training intensity over time including increasing weight, repetitions, sets or decreasing rest. Periodization is also recommended for planning long-term training.
