An Essay On Detective Mills Character
Detective Mills Character from the movie Se7en
The movie itself has a complex design and was a thriller/horror/crime Hollywood kind of film
that was done in 1995. It is directed by the director of the Fight Club film that is David Fincher.
The main characters in this movie include Morgan Freeman who plays the character of William
Somerset and Brad Pitt who plays the character of David Mills. The two characters get involved in
a series of horrible murders carried out by a serial killer who finds his inspiration from the Seven
Deadly sins theme that is wrath, envy, gluttony, sloth, lust, greed and pride (TVTropes, n.d.). The
character of Mills depicted in this film balances between the roles of hero and villain and therefore

he is portrayed as an idealistic person in his work which is mainly channeled by the fact that he has
a naГЇve egotism as represented when he contradicts with officer Somerset. Officer Somerset
wishes to retire soon and intends on leaving a legacy in detective Mills as they both have the
same views of justice and ideals in a town filled with corruption but Mills being a person who is
headstrong does not allow Officer Somerset to fully change his character. Since Detective Mills
is full of pride, this makes him to fall from grace as the movie/film nears the end. The death of
envy was realized when Tracy, Mills wife died and with the death of Doe in Mills hands also
results in the death of wrath through loss of freedom and innocence. His death was also the death
of envy as he admitted in the movie that he envied mills. From this events of the death of Tracy
his wife, Detective Mills character changed as his life was ruined which also resulted in the
shattering of his idealism. In the film, from then henceforth Mills becomes the murderer s plaything
because everything he loved and treasured was taken away from him by the murderer and thus acts
as expected by Doe (Wakeman,

Ulitarianism And Euthanasia
Euthanasia is the act of killing hopelessly sick or injured people or animals in a painless way to put
them out of their misery. There are five types of euthanasia, but two types are voluntary and
involuntary. Voluntary euthanasia is when a person requests to end their life due to a painful illness
with no hope of survival, and involuntary euthanasiais the person dying requests a faster death
through infancy or capital punishment. Two kinds of euthanasia in particular are suicide; when you
take your own life without help, and assisted suicide; when you have a terminal disease and cannot
commit suicide, so you allow someone else to do it for you. The interesting thing about euthanasia
is that it is only legal in the Netherlands, Belgium, Colombia, and Luxembourg. Although euthanasia
is not legal in the following places, assisted suicide is legal in Switzerland, Germany, Japan, Canada,
and in the US states of Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Vermont, Montana, Washington DC, and
California. The ethical theory that agrees with suicide is Ulitarianism, while Kantianism would be
debatable.
Jeremy Bentham states we should create the most happiness and pleasure and reduce suffering and
unhappiness through the ethical theory of Ulitarianism. Through the practice of euthanasia, if a
person requests to be put out of their misery and their family consents, it would be beneficial to the
person and their family to not see them suffer anymore and know they are in a better place. For

Rise And Fall Of Athena Research Paper
Cecrops was the first King of Attica and was held responsible for Athena becoming the protector
of Athens. He was half human half dragon. Poseidon, however, wanted to be the protector of

decision, Poseidon floods Athens. Since the women had voted for athena, the men decided to take

market and best seller.
For the Autumn/Winter 2011 collection that we are appointed, Triumph has coordinate together
with Barbour. Barbour is a UK owned clothing store broadening out from its countrywear roots.
Todays the company produces clothing that is designed for a full country lifestyle. The collection
is to be launch during February and March 2011. The launching event usually taken place at the
factory where dealers visit the pop up store for viewing the new collection and this is to be joined
by appointment only. Information, product demonstration and order making are taken place on the
event day. Sometimes the person visiting the event may not have the authority to make the
purchase, therefore the company is given them a 3 week launching event so that decisions can be
made within this 3 weeks. During this 3 weeks, larger dealers have their individual bringing of 1 3
staffs whereas 2 4 small dealers are grouped together.
The main goal of this collection is to start expanding the market to those who are non bikers. But
the problem being that they have not been considering about putting their products into any other

Equity and Imperfect Transfer
Legal writing and credit For a trust instrument to be valid and effective, it must be properly
constituted. For a trust to be deemed as completely constituted, all of the relevant formalities must
have been satisfied by the settlor, hence the legal title of the property must transfer to the trustees.
The reason for a conveyance of property to the hands of trustee is explained in Milroy v Lord
(1862) by Turner L.J. is that a valid and effectual voluntary settlement will exist, when the settlor
have done everything which was necessary according to the nature of property comprised in the
settlement, which is to transfer that particular property to the trustee. This requirement of
constitution of trust is clear and straightforward, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A harsh decision would been seen in the case of Re Fry (1946), as the donor in this case had
completed necessary forms and returned them. He also applied for the necessary consent which
required by the Defence Regulation (Amendments No.2) SI 1939/1620, but the consent was not
given before his untimely demise. Romer J. did not upheld the trust because the donor has not
done everything that is necessary for the transfer of the title. As Romer J. stated that if the donor
had been asked for further details, he is not compelled to proceed with the transfer, he have the
choice to refuse as he obtain more details about the transfer of share. The law had been very clear
with regards to imperfect gifts or incompletely constituted trust, as some judges even decided
harshly to comply with the maxim and general rule. However there are judges that came out
with different rule to curb such harsh decision and strict principle, this is known as the every
effort rule . The every effort rule which was established in the case of Re Rose [1952] explained
by Rimer L.J in Zeital v Kaye [2010] that once a donor has done all in his own power to transfer
the shares, he will be regarded as holding the legal title to them upon trust for the donee, who will
thereupon become their beneficial owner . This rule will not render the gift or trust failed

The Middle Ages And The Fall Of Rome
The Middle Ages began with the fall of Rome and lasted till 1450 C.E. This era started as a very
difficult and dangerous time for most people who struggled to barely survive. They faced
difficulties such as hunger and attacks from vicious barbarians. One system that helped too face
these problems was Feudalism, the economic and political system that was developed and used in
Medieval Europe. This system worked with a hierarchy; Monarchs were at the top and going down
nobles, knights, and peasants. Everyone in this system protected each other. Knights were expected
to protect the kingdom. Nobles and monarchs were required to provide protection for each other.
Another part of Europe that helped people to face life difficulties was the Roman Catholic Church.
The church helped make big developments during the middle agesspecifically in education. Monks
would immerse their lives in learning about the world and the universe. These were the only people
in Western Europe developing their knowledge of their world during the middle ages, which was a
big improvement from there being no learning. Feudalism and the Roman Catholic Church did
provide more stability and security for the people of Western Europe during the Middle Ages. The
Feudal System provided more stability in everyday life compared to the time during barbarian
attacks, feudalism also provided security through the hierarchy, and the Roman Catholic Church
created stability and security through education.

Golden Gate Bridge Stereotypes

Century old traditions of girls growing up with pink ribbons and dolls rather than toy airplanes
or building kits places young girls in a bubble of who they are and what they are meant to be.
While girls grow to become industry professionals, the Silicon Valley s culture developed by
Cannon and Perry drives women away because men tend to prefer working with things while
women prefer working with people . However, the technology industry is arguably one of the
most interpersonal careers because communication and teamwork are necessary to develop

Terry Tempest Williams The Village Watchman
The Village Watchman by Terry Tempest Williams I had slightly mixed feelings about The
Village Watchman. For the most part, I really enjoyed it. I thought it was very well written, very
engaging and interesting essay that was both reflective and deep. Williams descriptions and
stories of her uncle were very thoughtful and understanding, and were incredible to read. Though
subtle, they helped to transform the reader s image of what it means to be mentally disabled or
handicapped. Particularly, Williams provides a contrast between society s idea of what their lives
and personalities are like, compared to what they actually are or can be like. Though Williams
uncle was not considered to be normal in terms of society s ideas of normality,

Prison Agency Analysis Paper
The Bureau has over 39,000 employees and multiple prisons throughout the United States. This
agency analysis will briefly describe the agency at the national level, but will primarily focus on the
agency I intern at by taking a look specifically at the role of psychology services.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons is a law enforcement agency serving under the United States
Department of Justice. In 1891, Congress passed the Three Prisons Act, which authorized the
establishment of the first three Federal Penitentiaries Atlanta, GA; Leavenworth, KS, and McNeil
Island WA (Bureau of Prisons, 2015). The first penitentiaries denoted their prisoners as religions
penitents who were serving time for their sins. In 1930, the assistant Attorney General hired
Sanford Bates to organize and establish what is known today as the Federal Bureau of Prisons
(BOP, 2015). Unlike its three penitentiary predecessors, the BOP began breaking away from
punishment to creating a culture of change and reformation. In 1934, Congress established the
Federal Prison Industries to provide training and paid work for the inmates (BOP, 2015). In the
early fifties, they revised ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Carissa that make her my role model are as follows: Communication skills: Carissa always
makes sure that her patients and their family are understood and also that they understand what
is being said to them. She takes her time to listen to them and to understand the many cultural
differences of all of her patients (Winter 2009). Empathy: Carissa is very empathetic to all her

providing the best care possible. She treats her patients as she wants to be treated (Wilson 2012).
Emotional stability: Nursing is a very stressful job and nurses are a special breed of people.
Carissa is able to remain objective towards her patients while at the same time treating them as

Negative Effects Of Technology On Youth
Technology varies widely from one decade to the next. The invention of the television increased the
usage technology during the 80s. While the invention of computers rose the use of technology in
the 90s. Once seen as an improvement to the society, technology has now become a problem.
Numerous versions of technologynow exist to create technological distractions. Computers, cell
phones, and video games stand the leading distractions in today s society. Technology began small
but, with great advancements technology has gone too far. Youth remain greatly affected by
technology. Since technology has become a normal routine for youth, they fail to realize the
problem occurring. Older individuals who grew up without as much technology, can point out the
issue easily. Technology affects today s youth negatively because it distracts, promotes violence,
and lowers independence. Technology affects youth negatively because it creates distractions. Cell
phones have become the leading distractioninvolving injuries (Turkle 430). As stated by Sherry
Turkle, Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor, claims that These young people live in a
state of waiting for connection. And they are willing to take risks, to put themselves on the line
(430). Texting and driving have become a major problem causing many to crash and die.
Technology also causes distraction in classrooms. Michael Berry, a professor at the University of

Esperanza Rising Short Story
Mexican immigrants in the United States faced difficult challenges daily such as discrimination,
lower wages, and hatred. The book Esperanza Rising is by American writer Pam Munoz Ryan.
Esperanza is a Mexican girl at the age of thirteen, and she had to leave her home in Mexico to
come to the United States as an immigrant. She had to leave because of her greedy uncles. Even
though Esperanza s life was full of challenges, as an immigrant the harshest challenges were not
knowing how to do daily chores, having to go work in the sheds to pay mamaВґs medical bill, and
facing discrimination due to her skin tone. The fact that Esperanza did not know how to do
daily chores because she always had servants, shows her harsh new life as an immigrant. The
first challenge Esperanza faced was not knowing how to sweep the platform. Esperanza had to
sweep the platform to lower the rent her family paid for the house. She did not come from a
family that did their chores they always had servants, therefore she never had to learn how to
sweep. She got made fun of by Marta a striker when she tried to sweep the platform. On page 116

Cartel Split Upends Potash Industry
The July 31, 2013, Globe Mail article, Cartel Split Upends Potash Industry, stated that Canadian
firms needed to rethink their future strategy in light of the recent news that Russian producer
Uralkali was exiting the BPC cartel (Vandenbosch Jethani, 2014). This news came shortly after
Canadian firm Agrium Inc. had announced their plan to expand annual potashcapacity by up to 40
percent at their Vanscoy mine. Uralkali s announcement sent ripples throughout the potash industry.
Stock prices and profits fell as potash prices dropped by up to 25 percent. Adding to this new
market instability is new rival competitor. Agrium Inc. is now faced with many questions when
considering their future:
Should they continue expansion at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their mine and production facility at Vanscoy has a current production capacity of over two million
tons annually. Expansion projections of 750,000 tons would increase production levels by up to 40
percent.
There are two main threats taking place in the industry environment. New rival BHP s Jansen mine
in Saskatchewan is one of the largest and highest cost greenfield mines under development. The
Jansen mine development would place BPH as one of the top five potash producers worldwide.
Current demand and pricing strategy along with other factors indicate that it is unlikely that the
Jansen mine will operate at full capacity of 8 million tons. With the exit of Uralkali from the BCP
cartel; the price over volume strategy that has been in place for the global export market has ended,
causing uncertainty in the potash market.
Agrium s weakness in the market is their current annual production capacity of two million tons.
Their smaller production capacity limits their ability to achieve greater market penetration. Demand
for potash continues to increase with population growth and the need for more agricultural output
to meet long term food demands. The increased production from the expansion of their Vanscoy
mine will allow them the ability to penetrate the market more deeply and keep up with increased
demand. Increased production would also spread a larger share of their

Comparing Christian Vs. Baptism
Comparing Lutheran vs Baptism Lutherans and Baptists are both Christians who are also
Protestants. They share many beliefs and have more similarities than differences. Both happen to be
reformists within the fold of Christianity. However, there are many different branches of Baptists
with differences between them too. In Lutheran, baptism is seen as a work of God and so even
infants are baptized. On the other hand, baptism is only for believers among Baptists, and this is
the reason why infants are not baptized in Baptists. Lutherans are the first of the major
denominations that broke away from the Roman Catholic Church in a bid to reform it from some
practices and doctrines that had no or little justification. The Christian community, though centered
in salvation through Jesus Christ, has been divided into sub sects, with some differences in their
teachings, doctrine and ceremonial celebrations. Two of the most commonly misconstrued sects
would be the Lutheran and the Baptism Churches. As mentioned, both religions believe in and
worship the same God, refer to the same Bible and hold communal gatherings to celebrate their
faith. The principal dissimilarity is their doctrines and preaching/teaching methods. There are
differences in their ceremonies, too, particularly in the manner in which Holy Communion is
administered and the over all formality of the worship service. The following comparison would
affirm that Lutherans are more sacramentarian in theology and worship, while

I walked away disappointed, in the corner of my eye I saw something on the floor I picked it up
and looked at it and in front of me, I was holding and brand new leather jacket with silver studs
and enough belts to hold down a small town. I laughed in excitement and ran downstairs to give

Lenders And Credit Loans Online Payday Loans
Lenders who offer bad credit loans, including online payday loans, personal installment loans and
auto title loans, have come under increasing attack in recent years. The Consumer Financial
Protection Bureau, or CFPB, has been the most vocal critic of these lenders. The CFPB
published its proposed regulations for short term, small dollar loans in June 2016. Included in the
1,341 pages of new rules and explanations is a section that deals specifically with lenders who
offer online payday loans. Despite the pending proposed regulations and the criticism leveled at the
lenders, however, the number of borrowers seeking an online payday loancontinues to increase.
Why Payday Loans Online Continue to Increase Despite Criticism of the Industry
In recent years, many states and municipalities have passed laws that have made it difficult or
impossible for payday lenders to operate a traditional storefront. However, as multiple witnesses
pointed out during testimony before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Financial
Services, outlawing a product is not the same as eliminating the demand for the product. In simple
terms, people want the ability to borrow small amounts of money when they need to handle a
financial emergency, and if they cannot deal with a lender who has a store, they will turn to a
lender who offers online payday loans.
However, there are other reasons for the increasing number of people looking for an online payday
loan. Unlike stores, websites are open

Plato s Phaedrus

Plato s the assistant of Socrates, enhanced love (eros) on Socrates s ideas and philosophies. This is

Plato touches on a broad variety of topics, including love, philosophical interpretation and

Free Tutoring Is A Great Thing For The End Of The Day Essay
Introduction
A lot of parents would love to get their child the help they need for school, or extra help to get
ahead if needed. Today there are a lot of tutoring programs out here, but all of them are not free.
So, where does that leave the children and the parents who cannot afford these programs? It can
leave that child at a lost because that child is not getting that extra help to become successful. Free
tutoring is a great thing for several reasons. At the HOPE Academy they offer free tutoring for
students who may cannot afford tutoring and are behind in their class. HOPE academy is making
a differences in their kid s lives because it is not just tutoring at the end of the day.
Social issues/challenges
There are several social issues that pertains to my service learning, but the main issue I would say
is getting the students the extra help that they need. Most of the students live in poverty or not the
best of areas and getting access to the extra help for school are slim to none. Most of the students
who come into the tutoring program at HOPE are not on their reading grade level or math grade
level. This is nothing to come to be a shock because there are a lot of kids every year that fall
behind their grade level. It seems to be the ones that do not live the best of areas.
This is a serious issue because once a child is behind especially at a young age it can be very
difficult to catch back up. Unfortunately, that child may never catch up to grade level if he or she

Representation In The Episcopal Church
In the Episcopal Church, the ongoing discussion around who can participate in the Eucharist
demonstrates that the church is led by practice, rather than theology. In recent years there has been
a significant volume of writing generated in the Episcopal Church about what is known as Open
Table . Currently this is an issue in which practice differs in many churches from the official policy.
The discussion and corresponding practice represent the latest step of a historical trend in the
church towards fullest possible participation in its practice of the sacrament of Communion. The
existence of canon law and the clear and conscious disregarding of that part of the canon illustrates
that practice is not always determined by either the law, or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In addition to standards for ecumenical shared worship and the inclusion of children, another series
of shifts took place in the types of participation possible for lay people. First lay people were
permitted to read scripture during the service, something previously restricted to ordained persons.
Then lay readers were permitted to serve the Chalice at the Eucharist. More recently these ministries
became separate. Finally eucharistic visitors were permitted, taking communion out to members of
the community who could not be in church to participate. All of these changes share a deep regard
for the importance of participation in the sacrament, and a simultaneous tendency to deconstruct or

The digestive system helps the humans break down food and turn it into nutrients. The digestive
system is made up of a lot of different organs such as salivary glands, pharynx, mouth, esophagus,
stomach, liver, gallbladder, small intestine, large intestine, and pancreas. Salivary glands produce
saliva, which keeps the mouth and other parts of the digestive systemmoist. The pharynx role in
the digestive system is to connect the nose and mouth to the esophagus. The mouth is used for
putting in food and also eating the food. The esophagus has only one function and it is to carry
food, saliva, and liquid. The stomach receives the food from the esophagus and secretes acid and
enzymes that digest food. The liver regulates the composition of blood,... Show more content on

Essay Benjamin Franklin Compared to Jonathan Edwards

Errata in the Hands of an Un Angry God:
A Comparison of Edwards and Franklin
Oberg and Stout put it best in the introduction of their book Benjamin Franklin, Jonathan Edwards,
and the Representation of American Culture, It is difficult, if not impossible to, think of two more
widely studied colonial figures than Benjamin Franklin and Jonathan Edwards. As Franklin and
Edwards have been studied individually over generations, so also have they been looked at together
(Oberg and Stout 3). Through their influential writing and critical evaluations of how to improve
oneself, Jonathan Edwards and Benjamin Franklin both encompass American themes that

Edwards consistently leads his life adhering to the bible. He believed like Winthrop, that his
community needed to prepare and become a city upon a hill (Gilmore 2). In Resolutions Edwards
self reflection and goals can be seen. He constantly tries to improve himself and his congregation so
that they can achieve God s envisage of a new homeland in New England. Edwards primary
commitment was to understand the Bible and to abide by it to live life to the fullest. Edwards
aspired to better himself and set a precedent for his congregation and his Christian community.
Franklin, like Edwards, also seeks these goals and achievements as and individual and for the
American man. In Soundings: Some Early American Writers, Lewis Leary writes, Franklin was the
true American ...he constantly redefines himself...none better represented the simple, noble
men...who lived close to nature faithful to her laws uncontaminated by artificialities of court or
town (Leary 9,11). Franklin provides his audience with virtues to adhere to when trying to set goals
to improve themselves. Franklin explains, no one can change overnight and one must work on one
vice until successively conquered, such as chastity, everyman can find self improvement and further
contribute to their community (Franklin

Preparations Before Relocation: One of the more important aspects of working in Australia as a
foreign worker would be acquiring the appropriate visa so that one may legally reside in
Australia. When considering which visa would be appropriate, Temporary Work (Skilled) visa

Similar to the United States dollar, Australia has both banknotes and coins. Considered easier to
tell apart than some other currency due to differences in size and color, Australia money
denominations begin at 5в‚µ and rise to $100. The $5 note is light pink, the $10 note is blue,
the $20 note is orange, the $50 note is mustard yellow, and finally the $100 note is green.
Featured on the banknotes are important Australian figures such as the first female member of
Australian parliament, Edith Cowan, and the founder of the world s first air ambulance, John
Flynn. Conversely, the coinage of Australia comes in only two colors of silver and gold as well
as featuring iconic animals and plants of Australia. Denominations of coins go from 5в‚µ to $2.
As Australia doesn t have 1в‚µ coins, prices are rounded at the register to the nearest 5в‚µ

This is generally true whether someone is moving from one country to another or simply from one
state to another. There are a few major concerns with relocating to Australia. Some of these include
the hot weather, socialization, and egalitarianism. It s noted that the UV index in Australia is

that values equality and fair distribution of work. Within Australia, people are

St Luke s Anglican School Analysis
In film theory, documentary is increasingly identified as film, a story and, it can be argued, as
fiction like any other film. There can be two types of documentaries which include, Objective
and Subjective. A subjective documentary is personal interpretations of facts or events that is not
impartial. A objective documentary consists of observed facts and is unbiased. Our assignment

The Flappers Of The 1920 s
Roaring Twenties. The end of WW1 resulted in a new era in which people with money wanted to
enjoy themselves. The U.S economy was booming, profits were increased, resulting in the
Roaring Twenties. The events of WW1 had left many young women disillusioned and led them to
question traditional morality and values which resulted in the rebellious behavior of the Flappers
(Henderson). The increase in leisure time provided people the ability to dance, and listen to the up
and coming jazz. The Flappers of the 1920 s represented Modernism and typified the clash of
values and the changing status of women of the new era. Most women in the 1920s, not just the
young Flappers, abandoned traditional, restrictive women s clothes, such as long dresses and tight
corsets, to free themselves of the shackles of the Victorian era. The free spirited Flappers cut their
hair, listened to jazz and scandalized the older generation (Bode 134). The independent and
unconventional attitudes of the Flappers challenged the traditional ideas by wearing short skirts,
bobbed hairstyles, make up and cosmetics. Flappers began drinking and smoking in public and
became more promiscuous during the 1920 s.
Women were much more than just staying home with their kids and doing house work. They
become independent both financially and literally. They worked hard for the same or greater
equality as men. All this brought them much much closer to their goal. In the 1920 s the term flapper

Effects Of Betrayal In The Renaissance
The end of the Middle Ages and the flowering of the Renaissance brought many shifts to European
societal structure. The face of Christianity changed considerably from the fourteenth century to the
mid sixteenth century, beginning with disagreement over who should hold absolute power, the
Pope or the Holy Roman Emperor. While the corporate Catholic church had once maintained a
fairly unified influence on society, a more nuanced form of Christianitybegan developing, leading
to reformed religious groups with opposing views, namely the Protestants and Anglicans. In the
wake of differing opinions, people s group identification determined what people they sided with
and who they wouldn t tolerate. With more complex religious and political perspectives, people
could distance themselves ideologically from peers, family, and leaders. Frequent mentions of
treacherous actions within the literature of this time demonstrates that these differing views made
people feel betrayed by their associates. The idea of betrayal is prominent in the lives and texts of
several authors of this period, including Dante, Thomas More, and NiccolГІ Machiavelli. From a
Christian perspective, betrayal was a grave sinbefitting serious punishment, while it was irrational
from a Humanist perspective and an inevitable, even beneficial part of mankind from an amoral
perspective. During the tumultuous political and religious climate of the High Middle Ages and
Renaissance, conflicting sociopolitical groupings and

The Atomic Bombings Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki
It has been seventy years since the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the end of
the Second World War in the Pacific Theatre. However, the unconditional surrender that was
favored by the Allies was only accepted by Japan after the Soviet Union entry into the Greater
East Asia War and the nuclear devastation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It is a common myth in
the Western world that the nuclear bombs Little Boy and Fat Man caused Japan to surrender and
in turn saved the lives of thousands of American soldiers that were about to embark upon
Operation Downfall, the invasion of Japan. However, decades after the war the idea that the
nuclear bombing of Japan was a military necessity is not taken at face value as it once was. Any
historian who would explore the situation in the Pacific theater will find that most of the actions
taken by the warring nations during the end were in reality very political in nature. This means that
the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasakihave a political necessity instead of a military one.
This political necessity was which nation would win the surrender of the Japanese Empire. The
United States of America and the Soviet Unionwere racing each other for the surrender of Japan for
different reasons. The Soviets wanted to make sure that their prize promised to them at the Yalta
Conference would be upheld. On the other hand the Americans wanted to win Japan s surrender
before the Soviets could launch an invasion on Japanese home

Famous names such as Marilyn Monroe, Dean Martin, Natalie Wood, Roy Orbison, and Jack

Angeles National Cemetery. Established in 1889, this national cemetery is home to many members
of the armed forces who have actively served in the military and/or law enforcement. These two
distinct cemeteries may only appear to share relativity through their short distance, but they also
symbolize many cultural aspects of the American ideology. The Westwood Village Memorial Park
Cemetery and the Veterans Cemetery reinforces American societal conformities and ideals by
perpetuating the idea of gender bias, displaying extreme idolization of celebrity status, and
imprinting religious affiliation. Through tombstone appearance, cultural imprints on the
tombstones, and categorization of the tombstones, both cemeteries embody contemporary
American and Los Angeles culture.

Comparing Dickinson s This Quiet Dust Was Gentlemen And...
From the late 1800s to the early 1900s, American poets began to diverge from the classic techniques
of writing poetry. Among these poets stood Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson. Even though
Whitman and Dickinson led contrasting lifestyles and had contrasting structures of writing, their
meanings that they conveyed through their poems were often related. Whitman s poem Song of
Myself, No. 6 and Dickinson s poem This Quiet Dust Was Gentlemen and Ladies are models of
work that are distant in form, but actually encompass several similarities in subject and tone. The
contrasting elements of both poems include the writing structure and use of imagery. Whitman s

Whitman s subject is about rebirth and life continuing after death. Dickinson s subject is about
the end of a cycle or period of time, which closely relates to Whitman s idea of rebirth. Both poets
also make use of personification and parallel structure. Personification is recognized in Whitman
s poem where he states, the grass is itself a child to make the grass represent new and youthful
life (rebirth), and where he states that grass is, the beautiful uncut hair of graves to convey the
fact that life and death occur so often that all grass must be covering some kind of grave that
everyone returns to eventually. Personification is recognized in Dickinson s poem where she
talks about the quiet dust to refer to the death or end of the gentlemen and ladies laughing and
dancing and to emphasize the silence that comes after death or a cycle of time. Parallel structure
is applied in Whitman s poem in the lines, I give them the same, I receive them the same,
meaning that grass grows the same everywhere and for everyone. Parallel structure is applied in
Dickinson s poem in the phrases, gentlemen and ladies and lads and girls, which is significant
because childhood innocence is alluded to with lads and girls, and the reverse order of the usual
phrase of ladies and gentlemen supports the facts that time affects

Disadvantages Of Driving
My journey began on a spring day, when my boyfriend at that time now my husband said that is

independent despite the fact that from the age of 18 years old I didn t live with my parents ,I
traveled in Europe by myself and I was already an independent person. In contrast with the US,
in Russia,my homeland country, the minimum age to drive a car is 18 years old, but there is no
much need in a car because the public transportation is cheaper and more convenient, the bus
stations are close to every location that you may need as well as if you drive a personal vehicle
there is always an issue with the lack of parking spots that make parking seem endless. On the
top of disadvantages, is the stereotype that the worst drivers in Russia are females. These were
my reasons why I started to drive only at 23, a perfect age, when I just moved to US. The
thought that I will have a car, my own car, made me feel very confident in myself. Thinking
about my future first car made me so happy like I was a child expecting for Christmas gifts,

The Epic Of Gilgamesh And The Book Of Job Essay
Human problems does not change throughout history but instead get told in different forms. The
Epic of Gilgamesh and the Book of Job are a quest for immortality and deal with the realization
that death is final and will come for everyone. The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Book of Job have a
similar main theme of immortalityand context, but the Book of Job has a more optimistic and
friendly world view. These two stories are very similar in their context because they occur close
together in history. The Epic of Gilgameshwas written around 600 B.C.E. but the historical events
that the Epic of Gilgamesh talks about would have taken place around 2,700 B.C.E. which is
when Gilgamesh lived. Similarly, the Book of Job was written around 1,000 B.C.E. but would
have taken place around 2,000 B.C.E. Both of these stories happened within 700 years of each
other but didn t get written until many years later, 2,000 years later for the Epic of Gilgamesh
and 1,000 years later for the Book of Job. While a 700 year difference may seem big when put into
perspective of history the 700 years is an extremely small gap. By being so close to each other in
time, this means that the context and advancement between the two aren t significantly different.

Alcohol In The Media Analysis
Shaken or Stirred?
How alcohol in the media affects young minds.
Media plays a big part in portraying alcohol to be something that young Australians feel they need
to try. Media does not just refer to their portrayal in television shows and movies, but also the role
advertisements have on television, radio, music, billboards, internet, signs, video games, public
transport and magazines. Television advertisement plays a major role in the attraction of alcohol to
adolescence, and a key aspect of this is the timeslot in which they are shown. The timeslot in which
television advertisements depict alcoholic beverages are more often than not in between programs

Many youth even try to study these portrayals in order to look and act like the people they see in
the ads. They often show that increased social status and an overall acceptance by society will
most certainly be the result of consumption. This gets even more complicated when celebrities
and role models often associated with adolescence are portrayed with alcohol, as the younger
generation will feel more compelled to try alcohol if their role models do. This can lead to a
subconscious abuse of alcohol simply due to the fact that they don t know any better.
Advertisements aren t the only form of media that draws younger viewers in. Movies and television
programs that depict main, or even minor, characters consuming alcohol can also cause adolescence
to feel that there must not be that many negative effects if these people are doing it, or that the
negative effects must be worth it. A study shows that 52.1% of movies contain alcohol brand name

Woodrow Wilson, as the 28th President of the United States, enacted some of the most sweeping

Tamara Kamenszain s Poetry Of The Neobaroque
On a first commentary regarding her writing practice, Tamara Kamenszain stated that her approach
to literature was framed by the study of philosophy. She highlighted the influence that Lezama
Lima s work had on her writing, suggesting that he facilitated the bridge between literature and
philosophical reflection. However, in thinking of such reflection, it could perhaps be considered as
one that does not fully encapsulate the I because, as we have clearly seen, the poetryof the
Neobaroque as well as of the Baroque is marked by the absence of the subject. Kamenszain spoke
briefly of Roland Barthes and his contention that the writers of his generation suffered the
censorship of the subject. The author even shared a story of a work of hers that was rejected
because the referent was clearly distinguishable. Taking into consideration both Kamenszain s
poetry reading and her visit to our class, В¬I am interested in reflecting on the interplay between
this idea of the censorship of the subject and the term Neoborroso, proposed by the author herself.
At the poetry reading held a few weeks ago, Kamenszain stated that her introduction of the term
Neoborroso had a lot to do with an eagerness to eliminate dualisms. She also referred to Alejandra
Pizarnik s idea of escriborrotear to write and to erase all at the same time, a game of doing and
undoing simultaneously. Nonetheless, the idea of the borroso seems to be in conflict with la
claridad that doing autobiographical work requires.

Tuck Everlasting Motifs
Tuck Everlasting The book Tuck Everlasting is a good book. Throughout the book, three
continuous motifs that I found are: the wheel, fence, and fantasy. I chose fantasy as the motif
because of the several reasons that I have listed in this essay. Natalie Babbitt uses motif and
analogy in the development of theme in Tuck Everlastingby using the motif: fantasy and several
different analogies. First off, the concept fantasy is the best concept to use because of the
following reasons included in Tuck Everlasting: the wood had a pass me by look, the road knows
where to go, and the Tucks look the same for over 87 years. These are just a few of several
reasons to support that fantasy is the best motif used in the book.
Next, I think the theme in Tuck Everlasting is: time and death. I think that the theme is time and
death because: the Tucks are immortal. They will live forever. A quote that helps support the
theme of time is: Everything s a wheel, turning and turning, never stopping. The frogs is part of it,
and the bugs, and the fish, and the wood thrush, too. And people. But never the same ones. Always
coming in new, always growing and changing, and always moving on. That s the way it s
supposed to be. That s the way it is. Angus Tuck is talking about the wheel of life. That time moves
on. People are growing and changing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But this rowboat now, it s stuck. If we didn t move it ourself, it would stay here forever, trying to
get loose, but stuck. That s what us Tucks are, Winnie. Stuck so s we can t move on.We ain t part
of the wheel no more. That s when the motif Fantasy comes in. The Tuck s are immortal now.
People can t actually be immortal. They can t be dropped off of the wheel of life. By introducing
the analogies of the water cycle: wheel of life ::rowboat:Tucks, she makes a point of saying that
the Tucks are going to stay living forever, making the motif fantasy become more of a supportive

Reconstruction Vs Republican Reconstruction Essay
The Civil war came to an end in 1865 after the Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered to
the Union. The Civil War left a huge number of destructions along the way in the North and the
South. The North were required to reconstruct the Confederate States. And that caused the
appearance of the Reconstruction Era in 1865. It was a period in which Americans put the pieces
together . People were split after the Civil War, some wanted to reconstruct the Confederate states
where it is politically and economically damaged and the others wanted to have revenge against the
South because they caused the war that resulted with memories of death and suffer the Americans
had to endure. And that was a reason of the emerging of the Presidential... Show more content on

They believed in three things, first, they were mad at the South because they had caused the war.
Second, they wanted to punish them. Third, they wanted to help the slaves who are now considered
as freemen after the war ended. the Radical Republicans didn t like Andrew Johnson s plans, which
are almost mirrored his previous president Abraham Lincoln, they felt that he did not pay attention
to the major issue, which was the rights and protection for slaves, and because of that Andrew was
considered weak and was impeached in 1868. Even though he was considered a southerner and
should sympathize with the South except he was considered a racist for ignoring the blacks and
consecrating only about the white men.
The Presidential Reconstruction which was led by Andrew Johnson was considered harsh towards
the South. Johnson believed that African Americans doesn t deserve to vote, he thinks that they can
t manage their own life so they should stay slaves for white men. He believed that black men
should emigrate out of the states. Johnson returned all property to the Confederates who supported
the 13th amendment and pledged loyalty to the North States, but, he didn t return their slaves.
Johnson vision of Reconstruction was considered a fail because African Americans are still treated
badly, and Black Codes were established by white powerful rich men, which was designed to
restrict the free

  • 2. An Essay On Detective Mills Character Detective Mills Character from the movie Se7en The movie itself has a complex design and was a thriller/horror/crime Hollywood kind of film that was done in 1995. It is directed by the director of the Fight Club film that is David Fincher. The main characters in this movie include Morgan Freeman who plays the character of William Somerset and Brad Pitt who plays the character of David Mills. The two characters get involved in a series of horrible murders carried out by a serial killer who finds his inspiration from the Seven Deadly sins theme that is wrath, envy, gluttony, sloth, lust, greed and pride (TVTropes, n.d.). • 3. Ulitarianism And Euthanasia Euthanasia is the act of killing hopelessly sick or injured people or animals in a painless way to put them out of their misery. There are five types of euthanasia, but two types are voluntary and involuntary. Voluntary euthanasia is when a person requests to end their life due to a painful illness with no hope of survival, and involuntary euthanasiais the person dying requests a faster death through infancy or capital punishment. Two kinds of euthanasia in particular are suicide; when you take your own life without help, and assisted suicide; when you have a terminal disease and cannot commit suicide, so you allow someone else to do it for you. The interesting thing about euthanasia is that it is only legal in the Netherlands, Belgium, Colombia, and Luxembourg. Although euthanasia is not legal in the following places, assisted suicide is legal in Switzerland, Germany, Japan, Canada, and in the US states of Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Vermont, Montana, Washington DC, and California. The ethical theory that agrees with suicide is Ulitarianism, while Kantianism would be debatable. Jeremy Bentham states we should create the most happiness and pleasure and reduce suffering and unhappiness through the ethical theory of Ulitarianism. Through the practice of euthanasia, if a person requests to be put out of their misery and their family consents, it would be beneficial to the person and their family to not see them suffer anymore and know they are in a better place. For a trust to be deemed as completely constituted, all of the relevant formalities must have been satisfied by the settlor, hence the legal title of the property must transfer to the trustees. The reason for a conveyance of property to the hands of trustee is explained in Milroy v Lord (1862) by Turner L.J. is that a valid and effectual voluntary settlement will exist, when the settlor have done everything which was necessary according to the nature of property comprised in the settlement, which is to transfer that particular property to the trustee. This era started as a very difficult and dangerous time for most people who struggled to barely survive. They faced difficulties such as hunger and attacks from vicious barbarians. One system that helped too face these problems was Feudalism, the economic and political system that was developed and used in Medieval Europe. This system worked with a hierarchy; Monarchs were at the top and going down nobles, knights, and peasants. Everyone in this system protected each other. Knights were expected to protect the kingdom. Nobles and monarchs were required to provide protection for each other. Another part of Europe that helped people to face life difficulties was the Roman Catholic Church. The church helped make big developments during the middle agesspecifically in education. Monks would immerse their lives in learning about the world and the universe. These were the only people in Western Europe developing their knowledge of their world during the middle ages, which was a big improvement from there being no learning. They share many beliefs and have more similarities than differences. Both happen to be reformists within the fold of Christianity. However, there are many different branches of Baptists with differences between them too. In Lutheran, baptism is seen as a work of God and so even infants are baptized. On the other hand, baptism is only for believers among Baptists, and this is the reason why infants are not baptized in Baptists. Lutherans are the first of the major denominations that broke away from the Roman Catholic Church in a bid to reform it from some practices and doctrines that had no or little justification. The Christian community, though centered in salvation through Jesus Christ, has been divided into sub sects, with some differences in their teachings, doctrine and ceremonial celebrations. Two of the most commonly misconstrued sects would be the Lutheran and the Baptism Churches. As mentioned, both religions believe in and worship the same God, refer to the same Bible and hold communal gatherings to celebrate their faith. The principal dissimilarity is their doctrines and preaching/teaching methods. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, or CFPB, has been the most vocal critic of these lenders. The CFPB published its proposed regulations for short term, small dollar loans in June 2016. Included in the 1,341 pages of new rules and explanations is a section that deals specifically with lenders who offer online payday loans. Despite the pending proposed regulations and the criticism leveled at the lenders, however, the number of borrowers seeking an online payday loancontinues to increase. Why Payday Loans Online Continue to Increase Despite Criticism of the Industry In recent years, many states and municipalities have passed laws that have made it difficult or impossible for payday lenders to operate a traditional storefront. However, as multiple witnesses pointed out during testimony before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Financial Services, outlawing a product is not the same as eliminating the demand for the product. In simple terms, people want the ability to borrow small amounts of money when they need to handle a financial emergency, and if they cannot deal with a lender who has a store, they will turn to a lender who offers online payday loans. We did change topic ideas a couple of times, however, when sitting down and talking about ideas for the topic first topic we chose which was, St Luke s Anglican School is a Good School, we came to the conclusion that the topic St Luke s is a Good School would be great. As this assignment was to be done at school we had all our interviewees at one place, which made it easy for us to film. • 26. The Flappers Of The 1920 s Roaring Twenties. The end of WW1 resulted in a new era in which people with money wanted to enjoy themselves. The U.S economy was booming, profits were increased, resulting in the Roaring Twenties. The events of WW1 had left many young women disillusioned and led them to question traditional morality and values which resulted in the rebellious behavior of the Flappers (Henderson). The increase in leisure time provided people the ability to dance, and listen to the up and coming jazz. The Flappers of the 1920 s represented Modernism and typified the clash of values and the changing status of women of the new era. Most women in the 1920s, not just the young Flappers, abandoned traditional, restrictive women s clothes, such as long dresses and tight corsets, to free themselves of the shackles of the Victorian era. The free spirited Flappers cut their hair, listened to jazz and scandalized the older generation (Bode 134). The independent and unconventional attitudes of the Flappers challenged the traditional ideas by wearing short skirts, bobbed hairstyles, make up and cosmetics. Flappers began drinking and smoking in public and became more promiscuous during the 1920 s. Women were much more than just staying home with their kids and doing house work. They become independent both financially and literally. They worked hard for the same or greater equality as men. All this brought them much much closer to their goal. • 29. Effects Of Betrayal In The Renaissance The end of the Middle Ages and the flowering of the Renaissance brought many shifts to European societal structure. The face of Christianity changed considerably from the fourteenth century to the mid sixteenth century, beginning with disagreement over who should hold absolute power, the Pope or the Holy Roman Emperor. While the corporate Catholic church had once maintained a fairly unified influence on society, a more nuanced form of Christianitybegan developing, leading to reformed religious groups with opposing views, namely the Protestants and Anglicans. In the wake of differing opinions, people s group identification determined what people they sided with and who they wouldn t tolerate. With more complex religious and political perspectives, people could distance themselves ideologically from peers, family, and leaders. Frequent mentions of treacherous actions within the literature of this time demonstrates that these differing views made people feel betrayed by their associates. The idea of betrayal is prominent in the lives and texts of several authors of this period, including Dante, Thomas More, and NiccolГІ Machiavelli. From a Christian perspective, betrayal was a grave sinbefitting serious punishment, while it was irrational from a Humanist perspective and an inevitable, even beneficial part of mankind from an amoral perspective. • 32. The Atomic Bombings Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki It has been seventy years since the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the end of the Second World War in the Pacific Theatre. However, the unconditional surrender that was favored by the Allies was only accepted by Japan after the Soviet Union entry into the Greater East Asia War and the nuclear devastation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It is a common myth in the Western world that the nuclear bombs Little Boy and Fat Man caused Japan to surrender and in turn saved the lives of thousands of American soldiers that were about to embark upon Operation Downfall, the invasion of Japan. However, decades after the war the idea that the nuclear bombing of Japan was a military necessity is not taken at face value as it once was. Any historian who would explore the situation in the Pacific theater will find that most of the actions taken by the warring nations during the end were in reality very political in nature. This means that the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasakihave a political necessity instead of a military one. This political necessity was which nation would win the surrender of the Japanese Empire. The United States of America and the Soviet Unionwere racing each other for the surrender of Japan for different reasons. Whitman s poem Song of Myself, No. 6 and Dickinson s poem This Quiet Dust Was Gentlemen and Ladies are models of work that are distant in form, but actually encompass several similarities in subject and tone. Dickinson s subject is about the end of a cycle or period of time, which closely relates to Whitman s idea of rebirth. Both poets also make use of personification and parallel structure. Personification is recognized in Dickinson s poem where she talks about the quiet dust to refer to the death or end of the gentlemen and ladies laughing and dancing and to emphasize the silence that comes after death or a cycle of time. Parallel structure is applied in Whitman s poem in the lines, I give them the same, I receive them the same, meaning that grass grows the same everywhere and for everyone. The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Book of Job have a similar main theme of immortalityand context, but the Book of Job has a more optimistic and friendly world view. Tamara Kamenszain s Poetry Of The Neobaroque On a first commentary regarding her writing practice, Tamara Kamenszain stated that her approach to literature was framed by the study of philosophy. She highlighted the influence that Lezama Lima s work had on her writing, suggesting that he facilitated the bridge between literature and philosophical reflection. However, in thinking of such reflection, it could perhaps be considered as one that does not fully encapsulate the I because, as we have clearly seen, the poetryof the Neobaroque as well as of the Baroque is marked by the absence of the subject. Kamenszain spoke briefly of Roland Barthes and his contention that the writers of his generation suffered the censorship of the subject. The author even shared a story of a work of hers that was rejected because the referent was clearly distinguishable. Taking into consideration both Kamenszain s poetry reading and her visit to our class, В¬I am interested in reflecting on the interplay between this idea of the censorship of the subject and the term Neoborroso, proposed by the author herself. At the poetry reading held a few weeks ago, Kamenszain stated that her introduction of the term Neoborroso had a lot to do with an eagerness to eliminate dualisms. • 43. Tuck Everlasting Motifs Tuck Everlasting The book Tuck Everlasting is a good book. Throughout the book, three continuous motifs that I found are: the wheel, fence, and fantasy. I chose fantasy as the motif because of the several reasons that I have listed in this essay. Natalie Babbitt uses motif and analogy in the development of theme in Tuck Everlastingby using the motif: fantasy and several different analogies. First off, the concept fantasy is the best concept to use because of the following reasons included in Tuck Everlasting: the wood had a pass me by look, the road knows where to go, and the Tucks look the same for over 87 years. These are just a few of several reasons to support that fantasy is the best motif used in the book. Next, I think the theme in Tuck Everlasting is: time and death. I think that the theme is time and death because: the Tucks are immortal. They will live forever. A quote that helps support the theme of time is: Everything s a wheel, turning and turning, never stopping. The frogs is part of it, and the bugs, and the fish, and the wood thrush, too. And people.
