Space Race
On July 2th, 1969 with only 25 seconds of fuel left, the first manned mission to the moon landed
safely inside a 300 meter wide crater. From Tranquility Base came the first transmission from the
lunar surface that the American craft known as the Eagle had landed. While the return trip would be
just as dangerous as the 8 days travelled to the moon, the main objective was completed, and the
world knew that American now led the space race. (Phys.org) In 1957 the Soviet s surprised the world
with its first venture into space. The sputnik satellite had circled the world for only 21 days, but had
forever changed the political landscape of the Cold War. This new front of the Cold War that would
drive both the United States and the Soviet Union to be the first country to send a man in space. In
1961, The Soviets answer this challenge and claim victory by sending the first man into space. Yuri
Gagarin would spend under two hours in space, but this victory by the Soviets could not be
understated by the United States. America had again found itself loosing the space race. (Phys.org)
The United States had answered both Soviet accomplishments with their own satellite launch after
sputnik, and delivered a American in space within a month of Gagarin s successful flight, but America

Columbia for final inspections and system checks. Shortly after these checks, the Eagle began its
descent toward the landing zone. At 2700 GMT, the Eagle landed in a crater within the Sea of
Tranquility. The landing was broadcast through radio and television (watched by over 500 million
people) worldwide. Armstrong became the first man (within the context of the Cold War, the first
American.) to walk on the moon, being joined shortly after by Aldrin.

House On Mango Street
The house on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros is really a coming of age novel of a Mexican
American female developing in a working class Chicago neighborhood. The writer is similar to the
main character Esperanza in a number of ways. It being that Cisneros was in addition a Mexican
American female growing up in a Chicago working class community. While Esperanza is ashamed of
becoming a Mexican American around white Americans, Cisneros is proud to be considered a
Mexican American female. But she endeavors to defy the roles and limitations of this culture. In the
novel, Cisneros portrays the problems that Latino females face in a culture which respect them as
lower class people. A culture which is stressed by males, along with a general public which esteems
females for whatever they resemble, moreover not for what s on the inside.
In the Novel of her, Cisneros wants us to picture the deterrents that Latino females must face

Immeasurable Ramifications Of Infant Neglect
The immeasurable ramifications of infant neglect stems from more than just the neglect itself.
Although, society finds neglect inexcusable there are risk factors that put some infants in greater
danger than others, disparities can start before birth and others are historical predisposition, learning
disorders, socio economic status and lack of knowledge (Bartlett, Raskin, Kotake, Nearing,
Eaterbrooks,2014). The Ecological perspectives theory says that our environment is crucial in our life
experiences. With this given information we have to identify all the risk factors that could contribute
to the well being of an infant. For example, who is caring for the infant, if that caregiver is using drugs
or alcohol, the age of the caregiver,

Essay on Analysis of Alice Munro s How I Met My Husband
Analysis of Alice Munro s How I Met My Husband
All of it is clear to a person who has understanding and right to those who have acquired knowledge.
(Proverbs 8:6 9)
Alice Munro gives a good example of the meaning of this in her story How I Met My Husband . The
theme of this story is under certain circumstances people can sometimes be blind to the truth.
The main character, Edie, provides the narration of the story from a first person point of view. She
tells her story based on an event from her past. Because she narrates the story the reader is unable to
be sure if what she tells of the other characters is completely accurate. Because one does not hear
other character s thoughts one could question whether Edie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She was very responsible for her age because she took care of the Peebleses two children and of their
house. Yet, she was uneducated and did not know much about love or boys. She told of how she
longed for a boyfriend or someone to kiss. Sometimes when you want things bad enough you begin to
believe they are true. For example, because Edie really wanted someone to love her, she really
believed Chris would send her a letter. However, if she would have examined his prior actions, like
how he treated Alice, Edie could have come to the conclusion that there would be no letter.
Another character important in the story was Chris. He was a soldier in the war. Supposedly, he was
engaged to Alice but from the way he treated her, one would question it. Also, he was cowardly
because he ran away from her rather than telling her how he truly felt, he said, ...A plane can get
further than a car . Also, the reader may believe he is running away from his feelings because of
something deeper. Maybe the war had injured him emotionally or mentally. These factors will
definitely make it hard to discover what is true.
Also, the character of Alice has some interesting meaning to the story. The character of Alice may be
modeled after the author Alice Munro because they have shared similar experiences between men.
Apparently, the author had been through a divorce and many of the

hydrophilic and lipophilic drugs. But niosomes are unstable. There will be the aggregation, leakage,
storage and stability problems. Proniosomes are the versatile preparations which are stable. These are
the dried forms of niosomes. Zidovudine proniosomal gel was prepared of different formulation. The
permeation studies were carried using rat abdominal skin. Higher percentage release was achieved
using the Span 20 i.e., 97.55%±1.1. Effect of lecithin and effect of non ionic surfactants was carried

increases the drug release. By using the proniosomes as carries the bioavailability of Zidovudine

Cardiovascular Disease ( Cvd )
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of death in the United States (Swain, 2013,
p.619). On average, CVD kills 17.1 million people a year in the United States (Swain, 2013, p.619).
CVD encompasses sub diseases that affect the heart and the circulatory system. Myocardial infarction
is a life threatening product of CVD and is commonly known as a heart attack. Blood flow is occluded
to a section of the heart in response to thrombus which is a blood clot formed in the vessel. The
occluded section results in heart muscle death (Swain, 2013, p.619). Every year, an average of
785,000 United States citizens die from a myocardial infarction; of those: 470,000 will have a
recurrent episode (Balady et al., 2011). Within five years of the initial myocardial infarction 22% of
men and women will suffer a fatal myocardial infarction or fatal coronary heart disease (CHD)
(Balady et al., 2011). Cardiac rehabilitation is a form of secondary prevention used post myocardial
infarction, with chronic stable angina, heart failure, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) or
percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA). Cardiac rehabilitation aims to stabilize the
condition, slow the progressive rate of the disease, and in some instances reverse CVD (Balady et al.,
2011). Cardiac rehabilitation is defined as, the implementation of strategies and provision of support
to help people with heart disease return to an active and fulfilling life and to prevent occurrence

Hector And Jason
In Home rs eipic The Illiad , The charcters Achilles, Hector, Medea, and Jason all had some great
characteristics and also had not so great characteristics that eventually led to each of their down falls.
Hector is the great warrior of the Trojan army, he fights with might and vigor, but often lets his
impulsive behavior get in the way of good decision making. Achilles is the leader of the Achean army,
he has glimpse of greatness but often lets his anger get in the way of decisions. Medea is the princess
of Colchis, she uses revenge and her cleverness in order to get things she wants. Jason is from Iolcus,
his poor decision making could most likely give him the role of a villian. Jason is a weak man and
only does things to further himself in life. Although these characters all have good qualites about
them, the flaws are what lead them to their downfalls.
Hector was the great warrior of the Trojan army. He lead the Trojan army into to battle with the
Achean army. His level of pride was very high after setting fire to the Archean ship, and killing
Patroclus. After this battle his confidence was tremendously boosted, which caused a problem later on

left Medea, she would have never killed his new wife or their own children. Jason really only thought
about himself and what he thought would better him. His weakness of using people to further himself

A primary group is a small, relatively permanent, intimate, and unspecialized group that develops a
sense of we ; a face to face group that entails close emotional ties. A type of group that is less
characteristic of groups in modern society where impersonality and individualism tend to dominate
(Charon p. 327). The Hallway Hangers know as a group that work is highly important in order to
support them. The boys have all held summer time jobs. All of them, except for one of the members
have pursued fulltime work, but none have been able to obtain meaningful employment. Every time
one of them thinks they have a decent job, something happens and it doesn t work out for them. This
type of firsthand experience in the job market further deflates any illusions they might have had about
the openness of the opportunity structure (Macleod p. 164). In contrast, the Brothers as a group look
forward to a more optimistic future where work is the central goal. For this group, work is an
exclusively summer time affair, in fact only one member is on the job market full time (Macleod p.

have not been shut out or had a job fall through on them. As a group they may even discuss their goals

Cultural Bias and Structure in Herodotus Essay
Herodotus writes his Histories for Greeks. Specifically for Greeks living in Herodotus own time. The
statement of purpose which begins the work seems to contradict this hypothesis. Herodotus claims to
wish to prevent the traces of human events from being erased by time, and to preserve the fame of the
important and remarkable achievements [Herodotus, 1.0]. The underlying assumption here is that
the author is preserving these events and achievements for future generations and perhaps even future
civilizations. The text however does not does not follow these guidelines. Herodotus assumes that his
reader will have certain amount of common knowledge.
When discussing geographical distances, Herodotus often gives them relative to ... Show more content

Within this primary structure lies a secondary tangential structure. Herodotus tangentially discusses
almost everything which is brought up in his historical narrative. Any subject, region, or people that is
mentioned within the primary structure is a candidate for secondary structure examination. Most often
this comes in the form of a discussion of some land that the Persians conquered. These secondary
structure tangents often include their own historical narratives, geographical descriptions, and
anthropological observations. The secondary structure of The Histories almost obscures the primary
structure, making it difficult for a casual or first time reader to follow the overall narative.
So we are presented with a narrative history quite similar to a modern history but which goes off on
tangents on subjects when they first appear in the narrative (this of course includes tangents off of
tangents).
The structure of The Histories presents a problem. The secondary structure of The Histories almost
obscures the primary structure, making the book difficult to follow. We are presented with two
possibilities. Either Herodotus is not a good author or The Histories was not meant to be read as a
book. Given the oral nature of fifth century Athens the later is far more likely. Books were likely a
rarity in Herodotus time given the difficulty in reproducing them. Given the oral

Conflict In The Looking Glass Wars
E.E. Cummings explained It takes courage to grow up and turn out to be who you really are.
Alyss when she was young loved her home in Wonderland but had to grow up in a whole other world.
She would always think her imagination would get the best of her but that fantasy never left as she
grew and became who she really was. In The Looking Glass Wars, Frank Beddor uses conflict to
transform Alyss from a mischievous, endearing, and naive girl to a fond of, praised, and comfortable
young woman so that she can defeat Redd and take back the Heart Queendom.
In the beginning of the novel, Princess Alyss is characterized as mischievous, endearing, and naive.
Alyss loves to play pranks such as dropping jollyjellies from an open window and watching them splat
on the guards below (Beddor 11). Instead of behaving like a proper princess, she prefers getting into
trouble with her best friend, Dodge. However, her pranks are never mean spirited; Alyss just enjoys
having fun. Although Alyss is mischievous, her father finds Alyss to be a delightful creature (Beddor
19). Besides her parents, other adults who even sometimes find themselves as Alyss s targets, such as
Bibwit Harte, also, find Alyss to be endearing. They appreciate her playfulness and are charmed by
her. Since Alyss is so accustomed to people loving her, she barely questions, Where did you come
from? when a kitten randomly appears as a birthday present for her (Beddor 41). Alyss is naïve and
never suspects

Animals Have Been Used For Animal Therapy From Early As
Animals have been used for animal therapy from early as the 18th century (Chu et al., 2009). Animals
have been shown to aid in lowering stress, feelings of isolation and depression. Studies have shown
that different types of animal therapy can be helpful with a range of mental illnesses, from
schizophrenia to anxiety to dementia. There are many ways that animals can be implemented into
different forms of therapy. There are uses for animals in psychological and physical therapy. Each of

Next, the focus turned more on questions about therapy animals and what those surveyed knew about
animal therapy. These questions, Which animal would you choose to have as a therapy animal? , and
What animals have you seen used as therapy animals? , are able to gauge the knowledge of therapy

animal the participant would choose was based on the idea of less common animals, such as goats,
being used as therapy animals and if someone would choose a farm animal as a therapy aid.
The last section of questions focused on mental health and stress. The questions were based around the
mental health and/or stress level of the participant to see how these factors may affect their opinion on
the use of therapy animals for psychological therapy. The responses collected compare the stress level
of the participant and their feelings on an animal s positive influence on their own mental health or

Jamaica American Culture
A time I remember going to a place that was different from anything I ve ever experienced before, was
Jamaica. I ve been to other places around the world, but Jamaica was an entirely different experience.
I ve never been to Europe, but I ve been to Mexico, various spots of Canada, everywhere in the United
States, most of the Caribbean, and all the Virgin Islands (U.S. and U.K). To start with Jamaica s
roadways are the opposite of the United States. The people were different as well. The clothing attire
they wore was way different from what I was used too. When I say being used to, I mean a sort of
ethnocentrism (Wood 169). If I viewed it as different (stereotype; Wood 47), then I was used to

ethnocentrism, different isn t bad, it is just an interesting change. Ultimately this goes back to my
direct definition (Wood 186), my mother was always open to other cultures, understanding (Wood
172) and embraced them. I was taught not to be narrow minded, having respect (Wood 172), and to
have tolerance (Wood 171) toward other cultures. Another part of this experience was the language
this culture spoke. They had their own native language, but spoke English. When they spoke English,
they spoke it extremely fast and it wasn t the easiest to understand. Their paralanguage (Wood 104)
wasn t something I was used to either. The way I responded to them, was to slow down my own
paralanguage and to speak more clearly without using any slang. This was so I could communicate
with them without any interference. This made the verbal communication (Wood 67) I used much
easier to understand for them. I relied on the low context communication style. Which refers to very

Dead Chivalry in the Wife of Bath’s Tale
In the time period between 1066 and 1485, better known as the medieval age, a set of standards and
how people are placed into order of importance in society is known as feudalism. In this caste system
there are four groups; Kings, Barons, Vassals, and Serfs. The main individual of focus comes from the
vassals, better known as the knight. Knights from this time period start out around 7 years old and are
taught a code of chivalry (code of conduct) and the basics of knight hood. The knight in the Wife of
Bath s tale forcibly violates a young madden and punished with execution by decapitation. He is saved
by the queen but is sent on a twelve month and a day quest. The knight in the Wife of Bath s Tale

The knight shows his true chivric colors by saying My lady and my love, my dearest wife, I leave the
matter to your wise decision. (406 407) By allowing his wife to chose for him he displays true
chivalry. He is also allowing to choose what she wants for her husband; this is a recall to the answer
she gave him to save his life.
The knight in the Wife of Bath s tale doesn t display chivalry by his actions of violating an innocent
woman and continues to dishonor this code by being deeming and crass to an old woman who helps
save his life yet at the end allows the old woman to make a decision regarding his life. Chivalry is a

Analysis Of The Poem The Optimist
Joshua Mehigan s second poetry collection following, The Optimist, presents an anthology disclosing
rhyme, meter and colloquial speech/diction infused with realist narratives and monologues bathed in
the surreal lucid elements of the subconscious. Mehigan s collection discusses the inevitability and the
gravitating novelty of change as well as the facing of ones demise in both the literal and figurative
sense. Whether it is an everlasting smokestack, the evaluation of a road post car accident, a town that
never changes, a man on his death bed or the excitement of seeing dreary Christmas play falling apart,
or someone slowly losing their sanity. Mehigan tackles complicated concepts with scenarios that are
entertaining to the reader but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mehigan s tendency to let his imagery and small monologue statements traverse the narrative is
expertly exerted in this poem to discuss the concepts of change and being contempt in consistency.
Mehigan closes the poem with a simple, yet powerful and intelligently constructed, statement which
mirrors the opening line of the poem Nothing here ever changes, till it does (3). When this line is
earlier voiced it is said in an almost omniscient third person indirect which gives validity of such a
claim a potent degree of confidence that nothing here will ever change. As the poem ends though the
restated line has its confidence and validity shifted to the almost inevitable degree of change that is to
come.
Mehigan discusses very complex universal truths and philosophies by entertaining the reader in the
collection with a series of seemingly simple tales, displayed in a degree of multiple formats,
centralized around a specific object, setting, or statement which precedes the text by being placed
within the poems titles. This consistency found within the collection helps guide the readers focus and
fuses his ideologies with something physical to give the readers a tangible example/experience in an
effort to not only give clarity to the poetry collections interpretative meanings but be novel in its
execution, with a show not tell concept. Mehigan displays the ability to talk about issues of love,
death,

The Felix Valle House State Historic Site
On November 20, 2016, David, Morgan, and I visited the Felix Valle House State Historic Site. It is
located at 198 Market Street in Saint Genevieve, Missouri. This site was built in the early 1800 s. The
initial construction of the house began in 1818 and the earliest recorded date of construction beginning
was January 1st. It was started by a man named Jacob Philipson. Mr. Philipson was a Jewish merchant
from Philadelphia who moved to Saint Louis in 1808. He moved his business down to Saint
Genevieve in 1811 and in April of 1818 he purchased a lot of ground. On this ground, Philipson built a
one and a half story Federal Style home which would end up containing both his personal living
quarters and his store. The lot was also home to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was a relaxing feeling coming from the room. The colors were pretty mellow such as the cream
colored walls. Although the room gave off this aura, there was a very elegant tea set in the middle of
the room. The wall contained a fireplace while the corner of the room contained a combination of both
a bookshelf and a desk. The desk had a pair of golden glasses that belonged to one of the men who
lived in the home (I can t recall exactly who they belonged to). Aside from these things, the room also
contained what looked like a very comfortable couch. The guide stated that all of the pieces in the

Budget Cuts
As most people will agree, education is an important factor to succeed. Educated people in a society
stand for a successful society. The issue in Illinois is the universities aren t being provided the funds
promised to them by the Illinois State government. The schools are being forced to make budget cuts.
The teachers at the schools are being forced to take furlough days, which are day they have take off
with out a pay. The cause of all of these actions is due to the major debt the State of Illinois is in. The
money the state should be paying the universities, the state is using it on other items. University of

The Importance Of Innocence And Experience By William Blake
Innocence and Experience: How William Blake Challenged Society
(More background on Blake here and how he came up with innocence/experience)
(https://www.mtholyoke.edu/courses/rschwart/hist255/jkr/romanticism.html) Romanticism was a
literary movement that swept through virtually every country of Europe, the United States, and Latin
America that lasted from about 1750 to 1870. This period included philosophy, art, music, literature.
(https://www.bl.uk/romantics and victorians/articles/the romantics) Romantics believed that men and
women should not be guided by rules placed on them by society but led by warm emotions that
promoted a sense of freedom. William Blake was one of the poets that began the Romantic Age who
promoted self expression but was weighed down by the importance and standards of religion. Literary
work during Romanticism had a strong emphasis in implementing nature, emotion over logic,
imagination over reason, and no division between art and literature. These works placed focus on
human personality affected by political and social causes. These became dominant themes in romantic
poetry which made literature much more complex. In the late eighteenth and nineteenth century, child
labor in England was prominent after the Great Fire of London in 1666. After this massive fire in
London, chimneys had to be built slimmer due to new regulations to keep the city safer. Chimney
sweeping was done by poor boys at ages as young as four after they were sold.

Bad Stewardship
Stewardship is important because it is something that God calls us to do. Adam and Eve were the first
stewards and every person since then are stewards as well. But what is Stewardship?
What is stewardship? Stewardship, as defined in the Merriam Webster dictionary, is the activity or job
of protecting and being responsible for something . In other words, stewardship is being responsible
for something that was put into your care. Luke 16:11 reflects this by saying, So if you have not been
trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? God calls us to be
responsible with the fading wealth here on earth to prepare us for the responsibility of God s true
riches.
Joseph gives us with a classic example of stewardship. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example comes from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe when Peter, Susan, Edmund,
and Lucy become the new rulers of Narnia. The cultivate and grow the land to its former glory and all

An example of bad stewardship come from the White Witch of Narnia. She was the ruler of the land
and it was her duty to grow and protect it. But she chose not to, instead making her subjects miserable.
A second bad example comes from Gollum, in Lord of the Rings. He had taken ownership of the ring
but instead he let it consume him and drive him to insanity and selfishness. He did not steward the
ring with responsibility.
Being a good steward should affect us as christians because it s what God calls us to do. We are called
to be stewards of Christ, as 1 Peter 4: 10 states, As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another,
as good stewards of God s varied grace . Having a large responsibility as that makes me stop and think
of how i can be a better steward with the gifts God has given me. Especially financially by making

Phuong Symbolism
In the book The Quiet American Phoung, the beautiful Vietnamese girl caught in a love triangle with
an American spy and a war correspondent, is seen as a commodity, something to be bartered, without
actually taking her feelings into consideration. She is treated as a delicate victim who needs saving by
the men in the book but although it seems like Greene is portraying Phuong as nothing more than an
object, he means for her to represent much more than that. Greene s portrayal of Phuong as an object
represents the treatment of the Vietnamese people in the hands of the Americans. She is meant to be
symbolic of her country, both men, American and British want to possess her, much like the war
raging in Vietnam.
Phuong is treated like an object to be won by the men in The Quiet American. Both Fowler and Pyle
fight for her affections, without truly understanding her. Pyle sees Phuong as being an innocent,
delicate victim that needs to be saved from Fowler who he believes is taking her for granted. That

Legal Developments in Western Civilization
Legal Developments in Western Civilization
The span of Western Civilization encompasses many notable achievements in legal development. As
empires rise and expand, it becomes necessary to create a legal code that standardizes punishment,
institutes a form of common law, and protects society from arbitrary abuses of power. These principles
were formally established relatively early in the western world, and became the foundations upon
which later government institutions created their legal systems. The Code of Hammurabi, the Twelve
Tables, and Magna Carta, all represent key moments in the evolution of legal thought and practice.
Not only do they show the legal and political direction of the empires, but also the progression of their
social values The Babylonian empire s success was due in large part to its powerful sixth king,
Hammurabi who reigned from 1792 1750 B.C.E. At the age of twenty five he succeeded to the throne
and devoted the first thirty years of his reign to wars of conquest. His military success meant that his
empire now possessed a diverse population that was difficult to placate. To aid in unifying the empire
and making punishments standard and universal, he issued the Code of Hammurabi. In three hundred
clauses, Hammurabi established the rudiments of common law. Though not a set of statutes to be
cited, it did provide judges with examples of past decisions handed down for various disputes. His
concept of justice was reflected in the biblical

An Unforgettable Experience Of My Short Story
What an unfortunate experience! Today was the day that I have been waited for my entire year. This

the University of Manchester and I am officially a tourist in there for a week. And the good thing
about it, is that I do not have to pay any accommodation fee because my friend had offered me a space
in his dorm. I felt super excited the night before I left. Although I have heard about the risk of having a
terrorist attack in Manchester Arena a few weeks ago, I put those thoughts aside and still manage to go
there. So next day, I woke up and bring along my luggage with me to the airport in Toronto. After a six

luggage, I met up with my friend right away. I congratulated him and we talked throughout out our
journey. It feels like we have not been talking for years ever since we both study abroad in different
countries. Not to mention his name is Alex. I have met him for almost ten years. We knew each other

Christian Science v Morman Essay
Introduction
With the advancements in the study of social sciences, there has been a somewhat parallel growth of
cults which though have their foundations in the original Bible and the Christian teachings, yet one
may observe that the majority of the present day cults not only deny the essential doctrines, they
openly emphasize and present their own personal reinterpretations of the biblical scriptures. The
following paper will present two such cases, those of Christian Science and the Mormons, and strive
to present some of the comparative elements, their beliefs, customs, religious ceremonies and
leadership aspects.

Christian Science The Customs
Some of the salient customs of the Christian Science include a daily prayer ritual which serves to
bring realization of God, and God s Love as well as assist others in experiencing the harmonizing and
healing effect of the primary understanding of the Christian Science. The cult also emphasizes on the
spiritual healing effect and gives more than a mere emphasis as compared to the medical treatment of
the ailing humanity. The cult has nor formal ministers, and instead the Bible, Science and Health are
its pastor and preacher.
With its headquarters in Boston, duly called the First Church of the Christ, Scientist, or The Mother
Church. It is assisted with a number of local churches, which serve as its branches. Run under a
Manual of the Mother Church, the Christian Science has a Board of Directors, which governs the
Church on a democratic system, and is duly assisted by its branches. (Slick, 2003; Kramer, 2004;
Meyer, 1961)
The Mormon Cult Leadership
Founded by Joseph Smith in 1830 in New York, the cult of the Mormons is yet another faith that
derives its teachings from Biblical scriptures. Though most, if not all the elements of this cult are
founded in the original Biblical texts, followers of the Christian belief due to some of the extreme
contradictions and deceptions in both the books of the Mormons as well as its teachings largely
oppose the faith. The cult has some 7 million members, out of 5 million are

The Success Of The Mcdonald s Corporation
Around 95 percent of American households have a television, and with that 95 percent the average
american home will have at least one television turned on for around 7 hours according to the group
TV Free America. They also state that a child will watch around 20,000 commercials a year. But that
is just commercials there are also posters and ads on the radio as well, meaning that you cannot escape
the overwhelming amount of advertisements out there. Not only are there thousands of commercials
being seen each year, but also there are certain ways as to how these commercials are designed and
delivered. We give these very little thought but the companies slogans seem to stick to us like glue. In
1955, a man by the name of Ray Kroc founded the McDonald s Corporation. He bought the name
rights from brothers Dick and Mac McDonald. Kroc took this small restaurant and turned it into one
of the most well known companies in the world. By the end of 2008 Mcdonald s had grown to 31967
locations in 118 countries. With 58 million customers a day worldwide its hard to not see a
McDonalds ad around. ( James) People know that fast food is not good for the body but if it is fast,
tastes good, and cheap people will buy it. Thats because in this day and age most people are employed
and don t usually have time to sit and eat a nice lunch, so instead they turn to fast food and with
McDonalds continuously growing popularity that is what we think about first if we need food and fast.

Analysis Of Ben Jonson s Ode To Shakespeare
This week s lecture is focused on Ben Jonson, his love hate relationship with Shakespeare, his lyric
poetry, Jonson s purpose, Jonson s life, and Volpone . Jonson was constantly compared to Shakespeare
which is often deemed as unfair. Sadly. Jonson was always second best even though they were two
different people with different writing styles, temperament, artistic interests, etc.. However, this could
be due to working around each other and always being in the same surroundings. There were times
when Jonson would hint at Shakespeare in his work but would often try to make Shakespeare look bad
in order to boost his ego. In my opinion, I do not blame Jonson for doing this because he was tired of
being compared to someone who was around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my opinion, I think it was wonderful that Jonson was able to achieve this because I am sure after
being compared to Shakespeare constantly that he needed something that he could call his own
achievement.
Next, Jonson s purpose was didactic. Didactic is defined the intent to teach or lecture others while
having a moral instruction as one s ulterior motive. Jonson was seen as a public poet. I believe his
used his poetry to teach others his neo classical virtues. He believed his poems could be used as
examples to introduce people to wisdom, honesty, and his version of a good life. In my opinion, I
think that Jonson s poems could be used as a template to show people how to live a better life or to
show the moral of the story. I think he was trying to teach others to embrace a good moral standing.
One could say that his ulterior motive was to teach people ethical principles and artistic standards
because he believed that someone of his standing should feel responsible to show others that they
should follow these rules. However, Jonson believed that his purpose was to defined the good life but
according to the lecture this would mean that Jonson would have to discover his self knowledge and
that it would have to be constant.
Next, Ben Jonson was born in London around June of 1572. Although, his father died two months
before his birth, Jonson was able to attend Westminster School but only for a short time. Afterwards,
he decided to follow in his stepfather s footprints

However, it seems that the physical and mental labour in Victorian Prisons never stop, they found new

Increasing Levels Of Carbon Dioxide
Increasing levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) have created problematic oceanic conditions that are
detrimental towards the livelihood of coral reefs and other marine biota. The high levels of CO2 lead
to a decline of ocean pH among other issues such as dramatic changes in oceanic make up and
chemistry. Statistics and data collected has shown that ocean acidification will not only increase but
accelerate over the next century. The ocean takes in about 1/3 of anthropogenic carbon added to the
atmosphere. Anthropogenic carbon refers to the excess CO2 added to the ocean and atmosphere from
human fossil fuel combustion, agriculture, and deforestation. Although much of the damage from
human fossil fuel combustion is irreversible, if emissions are decreased dramatically ocean
acidification may be constrained. Human fossil fuel combustion, agriculture, and deforestation also
increase the atmospheric content of strong acids and bases such as HNO3, H2SO4, and NH3, which
decrease the alkalinity of water as well as pH levels and the amount of dissolved inorganic carbon.
Total alkalinity refers to the conserved thermodynamic measure of seawater acid base chemistry that
is equal to the charge difference between cations and anions. These byproducts of anthropogenic
activity are only responsible for a small amount of the oceanic acidification, but are denser in coastal
waters where the responses can more closely affect humans. This is relevant because policies will
need to be created in

Design And Implementation Of Select Java Concepts

CSC 401 Programming Languages
Assignment 4
11/16/2014
Design and Implementation of Select Java concepts There are many concepts in the design and
implementation of the Java programming language. Six of the many concepts are the final reserved
word, permanent generation in the Java Virtual Machine, the functions of the intern() class, dynamic
scoping using shallow access, dynamic scoping using deep access and the implementation of the
concept of passing a method as a parameter in Java. These concepts have various effects on Java
programming. From improving performance of a program to preventing variable value changing,
these six concepts are all helpful in their own way to the Java programming language. Along with the
implementation of these concepts in Java, similar concepts in other programming languages will also
be looked at.
In Java, there is a reserved word called final. In general, the final reserved word serves as a way to
prevent changing the contents of a Java entity. Fox example, assigning a variable as final double x =
10.2; means that this variable will not be allowed to change its value later on in the program because it
has already been assigned a value. Alternatively, a final variable can be declared without initialization
and can be given a value later. This assignment can only be done once and must be assigned by the
time the program has exited the constructor. The use of final is not only for variables. Final can also be
used when

Increasing the Bioavailability of Eye Drops Essay
Most ocular diseases are treated with topical application of eye drops. After instillation of an eye drop,
typically less than 5% of the applied drug penetrates the cornea and reaches intraocular tissues, while
a major fraction of the instilled dose is absorbed and enters the systemic circulation. As ocular
efficiency of topically applied drugs is influenced by the corneal contact time, most common method
of improving ocular availability of drugs is to increase pre corneal residence time by using vesicular
system and hydrogel. One such approach to improve bioavailability of drug is the use of in situ gelling
system, which gets converted from sol to gel as a result of change in pH. By using Carbopol940 a pH

A significant challenge to the formulator is to bypass the protective barriers of the eye without causing
permanent tissue damage.
Conventional ophthalmic formulations like solution, suspension, and ointment have many
disadvantages which result in poor bioavailability of drug in the ocular cavity. The specific aim of
designing a therapeutic system is to achieve an optimal concentration of a drug at the active site for
the appropriate duration [3]. The various approaches that have been attempted to increase the
bioavailability and the duration of the therapeutic action of ocular drugs can be divided into two
categories. The first one is based on the use of sustained drug delivery systems such as vesicles and
particulates, which provide the controlled and continuous delivery of ophthalmic drugs. The second
involves maximizing corneal drug absorption and minimizing pre corneal drug loss which can be
achieved by amphiphilic vesicles [4].
Niosomes are non ionic surfactant vesicles obtained by hydration of synthetic nonionic surfactants,
with or without incorporation of cholesterol or other lipids. They are vesicular systems similar to
liposomes that can be used as carriers of amphiphilic and lipophilic drugs [5]. Niosomes are promising
vehicle for drug delivery and being non ionic; they are less toxic and improve the therapeutic index of
drug by restricting their action to target

Bungie s Destiny: The Taken King DLC (downloadable content), the viewer witnesses what is called a
cinematic gameplay, which is made by a completely different engine than what a person plays with.
The Destiny DLC is made by Bungie, a company which is known for making the well known Halo
series. In this ad, Bungie s name is used to sell the DLC. And at the end of the ad, more ads for the
editions of the game and even Sony s PlayStation console are shown. Consumers, he says, are like
roaches you spray them and spray them and they get immune after a while, thus, Bungie placed ads
within an ad to get the consumers attention as Klein describes in No Logo. Moreover, ... Show more

The woman in feathers, the hunter character (Picture B), is shown in a mask and the camera zooms in
to show her face when she asks if any of her two friends found the evil king. The second man, the titan
character (Picture C), is not worried at all even though he is roaming the king s ship, which shows the
second environment the player can explore. The third man, the warlock character (Picture D), shows
signs of discomfort. The conversation shows how fun it can be to play as a party with friends and how
different members of the party can act. One is searching for answers; the other is tough while the last

The Meaning Of Being Chinese And Chinese Immigrants
Immigration brings uncertainty, tensions between the past and present, and alterations in identity due
to acculturation as shown through Leon and other characters in Bone. In the psychological study, The
Meaning of Being Chinese and Being American : Variation among Chinese American Young Adults,
the correlation between the Chinese immigrating to the United States abridging Chinese and American
cultures varied based on their age of immigration and the duration of their time in the United States,
demonstrating that immigration provides a multifaceted experience for each individual. Chinese
immigrants who immigrated over the age of twelve, like Mah and Leon, present an anchored identity
as Chinese, but have to adapt through consciously engaging in American culture to survive. Leon
distances himself from his frustrations of living in America by going out to sea, evading Chinatown a
reminder of Ona s death , and by distracting himself in project inventions without any intentions of
completing them. Then, Mah immerses herself in work and relationships, including her affair with
Tommie Ham and her over involvement in her daughters lives. Chinese immigrants who immigrated
under the age of twelve, like Leila, are placed in the position of mediating between Chinese and
American cultures; they experience less certainty on which culture to identify with and often have to
consciously act to become a part of either. In her conversation with Nina, Leila reflects on how Nina s

A Character Analysis Of Tikki-Tavi By Rudyard Kipling
Courage is contagious when a brave man takes a stand the spines of others are stiffened. Billy
Graham. The theme of the fictional story Rikki Tikki Tavi by Rudyard Kipling is that Rikki Tikki Tavi
s love for his family motivates him to be brave and to protect his new family against all odds.
Rikki is an active, brave, and loving animal. For example, in the story, Still, the instant s delay brought
Rikki Tikki up to her, and as she plunged into the rat hole where she and Nag used to live, his little
white teeth were clenched on her tail and he went down with her and very few mongooses, however,
wise and old they may be, care to follow a cobra into its hole (pg.19).This shows that Rikki is brave
because Rikki was going against a snake and Rikki is just a young mongoose. This ... Show more

I will kill the big man and his wife, and the child if I can, and come away quietly. Then the bungalow
will be empty, and Rikki Tikki will go. (pg.12)This shows that Nagaina is evil because Nagaina wants
to kill all of Rikki s new family and Rikki. This indicates that Nagaina is evil because she wants the
bungalow to be empty and she is gonna do that by killing.Nagaina lifted up her head and hissed, You
warned Rikki Tikki when I would have killed him. Indeed and truly, you ve chosen a bad place to be
lame in. And she moved toward Darzee s wife, slipping along over the dust.(pg.16) This shows that
Nagaina is violent because she wanted to kill Darzee s wife. This is an example of Rikki and Nagaina
similarities and differences. The similarities are that they both are animals and that they want to both
protect their loved one like Rikki wanted to protect his new family and Nagaina wants to protect last

protect his new family. That is why Nagaina is an evil and violent character in the

100% accuracy during five trial periods which is connected with his Postsecondary goal that after his
graduation from high school, Bobby will independently use public transportation in the community.
Teachers can monitor the student s progress on the goal by gathering information on a form that
requires minimal time and effort to complete without sacrificing accuracy. The data survey form can
contain student s performance during this event, frequency of needed reminders, and supports that
have been given to help the student with this specific skill. By utilizing a self monitoring checklist, the
student can take an active role in observing progress towards achievement of the goal.
The concept of self advocacy also can be expressed in the student s selection of short term and long
term goals which not only pertain to course selection and steps needed to achieve success in those
courses but also how courses go hand in hand with the selection of his/her postsecondary environment
(2 or 4 year college, vocational setting, military, or straight into employment) and career. Student s
input is very important because in order for the student to demonstrate optimal internal motivation
(student achieving satisfaction from the action), the student must have vested interest in achieving the
goal.
In order to pursue an activity and possible internal or external reward, the student must value the skill
that will be accomplished by the action. They break the motivation intertwined

Humans also have a biological drive to obtain balance or equilibrium between the schemes and the
environment and this is what drives the adaptation. Infants are born with schema operating at birth,
which are called reflexes, which are used to adapt to the environment. These reflexes are soon
replaced with constructed schemata, which are used throughout life as the person adapts to the
environment.
Piaget s first stage is the sensorimotor stage, which lasts from birth to about two years. Intelligence at
this point is based on physical and motor activity without the use of symbols. Hence the child uses
mobility, crawling, and walking to facilitate knowledge. The child s progress is visible through the
modification of reflexes in response to the environment. It is at this stage that the child learns object
permanence, understanding that objects continue to exist even though they cannot be seen. The end of
the stage is manifested in the immature use of symbols and language development that signals the
transition to the second stage (Morris and Maisto, 2008).
The preoperational stage is the second stage and lasts from age two to about age seven. Intelligence is
demonstrated at this stage through the use of symbols, particularly the development of language.
Memory and imagination are developed and children are able to mentally represent objects and

The Strange Case Of Dr Jekyll And Mr. Hyde
Robert Louis Stevenson, a Scottish author, wrote The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. It is a
horror and a science fiction book. The story took place in London, England, during the Victorian era.
Mr. Utterson knew something was wrong when his cousin Richard Enfield told him of Mr. Edward
Hyde, an ugly, cruel man. Richard Enfield told him he witnessed a man named Mr. Hyde mercilessly
tramping on a young girl, and to avoid getting in trouble with the authorities, he gave the girl s family
a cheque of a hundred Pounds, which was signed by none other than Mr. Utterson s client and good
friend Dr. Jekyll. Mr. Utterson was familiar with Mr. Hyde s name because Dr. Jekyll noted Mr. Hyde
as the main beneficiary in his will. Although Mr. Utterson ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Evolution Of Human Culture Developed Based On Our Environment
The earth is an ever evolving planet in the universe that has changed dramatically since the beginning
of time. Physically people have seen, measured, and recorded changes in land mass and population
growth in different parts of the world due to supply and demand of resources. Theories such as the
Pangea Theory or the Bering Strait theory have given insight into how human culture developed based
on our environment. Through the study of history, people can see the course of the human lineage as
well. Human evolution started with the phylogeny Hominoidea, a superfamily that includes humans
and all living apes. Out of Hominoidea, the earliest genus that exists today is the genus Homo which is
comprised of Homo sapiens that includes modern humans, as well as several extinct species classified
as ancestral to or closely related to modern humans. One the earliest known hominids, a species that
comes from the genus homo, is Homo habilis. What makes Homo habilis special is that it was the first
of the human species to have a notable increase in brain size and be found with stone tools. Through
an observation of Homo habilis, we can see large similarities between humans within this common
ancestors characteristics.
Homo habilis was discovered by Louis and Mary Leaky and their other coworkers Johnathan Leaky,
Philip Tobias, and British Scientist John Naiper, in 1960. They both believed that humanities roots in
Africa had been taken for granted and that people weren t

The Ten Principles Of Faith
Judaism is a set of ideas about the world and the way we should live our lives. Judaism has no set
principles of beliefs that one must hold to be a Jew. However there are thirteen principles of faith
which is known as Rambams. Rambam were the minimum requirements of the Jewish belief. There
were thirteen principles. The first one was God exists. The second is God is one and unique. The third
is God is incorporeal which mean god is not composed of matter. The fourth is God is eternal. The
fifth is Prayers are to be direct to god alone and to no one else. The Jews were expected to pray three
times daily. The sixth principle is the words of the prophets are true. The seventh principle is Moses

There are also many people that call themselves Jews in the United States and don t believe in the
Judaism religion. Many people in the United States that call themselves Jews will celebrate the
holidays but don t do the religious activities. These people are still considered Jews though because
they are known as secular people. You are considered a Jew if your mother was a Jew or anyone
whose gone through the formal process of conversion of a Jew. The conversion of a Jew can be a long
process. The first step in this process is considering Judaism. During this step the person has to figure
out why they want to become a Jew. Many choose to because they are involved romantically or want
to unite the family religion. Once the person has decided that it s the right choice for them, the second
choice is finding a rabbi. This step can be difficult since the different rabbis differ. Some rabbis will
want to devote more time than other one might. Rabbis decide who can enter into Judaism. When
meeting with the rabbi they will ask a series of questions about the person wanting to convert. The
third step is learning Judaism. The rabbi the person is meeting with will normally help someone learn
more about Judaism. The fourth step is the religious court. During this step you go to a religious court
which normally consists of three people which at least one of them is a rabbi and can pertain up to
three rabbis. During the court session the person is asked

Decision Making Michael Sandel Analysis
The American population is extremely diverse and is comprised of dozens of nationalities, multiple
age groups as well as ethnic circles. Such a melting pot of cultural variety gives us opportunities to
make new connections with the folks of different life styles and mentalities. We choose freely when
and with whom those relationships form and how long they last. Without a doubt, American lives
evolved and became thoroughly customized over the course of the past several decades. After all, each
one of us decides which path to take in life. Every day we re faced with a process of decision making
that s based on either planning or impulsivity, this especially pertains to our shopping patterns and
consumer behavior. Over the years, advertisers and corporate giants developed a variety of strategies
meant to influence our spending power, and while seemingly harmless, I believe these strategies
negatively affect our society. Social standards are lowered within the teenage population through the

Regardless the time of the year, there are always clearance sales and promotional incentives, hence it
appears as though there s no limit to our purchase power. In his writing, author Michael Sandel argues,
We live at a time when almost everything can be bought and sold. Over the past three decades,
markets and market values have come to govern our lives as never before (Sandel 42), and I cannot
agree more with his statement, Market values were coming to play a greater and greater role in social
life ( Sandel 42). Indeed, our social lives became progressively affected as the marketing boundaries
were pushed to an unprecedented extent time and time again. Overtime, the advertisers developed a
set of marketing strategies which proved to be successful within the respective

Difference Between Loyalty And Loyalty
Considering True Loyalty:
Loyal customers are excessively important to any business, and businesses spend great amount of their
time, energy and money analyzing and captivate those customers. However, the usual definition of a
loyal customer that we consider is a high spending customer, and that definition is imperfect.
Marketing to customers based on true loyalty requires more: complicated measurement, better spend
data, and considering that a regular customer is not the same as a loyal customer.
Traditional View of Loyalty:
Those who are Retailers commonly define a loyal customer as a high spending customer. However,
considering on a customer s spend within a single business while important tells only a fraction of the
story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heart
To protect true loyalty, a product requires having an affecting connection with its customers, though
suggestions vary as to what that delightful emotion supposed to be. Various people would advise that
it s all concerning with Trust. A few would suggest rising Passion for the product. Still some would
give an opinion of creating an emotional experience.
True loyalty exists when
Customers feel safe,
Appreciated and smart
Every single one is substantially affecting idea, but they are vague, unearthly, and exceedingly
difficult to make progress able. They may not state it clearly, but when presented with this type of
suggestion, many marketers secretly scratch their heads. What does an emotional connection indicate?
What do I do to create it? How do I know if I have accomplished it?
The Emotional Drivers of Loyalty:
Although Loyalty can be measured in behavioral conditions (repeat purchases, share of wallet, etc.), it
is a product of an emotional connection. Emotions make behavior; loyalty is produced when a product
makes a customer experience a positive way. Once we recognize which emotions makes loyalty, we
can build up progress able plans to enable customers to create this emotional

Essay on Analysis of Alice Munro s How I Met My Husband Analysis of Alice Munro s How I Met My Husband All of it is clear to a person who has understanding and right to those who have acquired knowledge. (Proverbs 8:6 9) Alice Munro gives a good example of the meaning of this in her story How I Met My Husband . The theme of this story is under certain circumstances people can sometimes be blind to the truth. The main character, Edie, provides the narration of the story from a first person point of view. She tells her story based on an event from her past. Because she narrates the story the reader is unable to be sure if what she tells of the other characters is completely accurate. She was very responsible for her age because she took care of the Peebleses two children and of their house. Yet, she was uneducated and did not know much about love or boys. She told of how she longed for a boyfriend or someone to kiss. Sometimes when you want things bad enough you begin to believe they are true. For example, because Edie really wanted someone to love her, she really believed Chris would send her a letter. However, if she would have examined his prior actions, like how he treated Alice, Edie could have come to the conclusion that there would be no letter. Another character important in the story was Chris. He was a soldier in the war. Supposedly, he was engaged to Alice but from the way he treated her, one would question it. Also, he was cowardly because he ran away from her rather than telling her how he truly felt, he said, ...A plane can get further than a car . Also, the reader may believe he is running away from his feelings because of something deeper. Maybe the war had injured him emotionally or mentally. These factors will definitely make it hard to discover what is true. Also, the character of Alice has some interesting meaning to the story. The character of Alice may be modeled after the author Alice Munro because they have shared similar experiences between men. Apparently, the author had been through a divorce and many of the ... • 9. Cardiovascular Disease ( Cvd ) Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of death in the United States (Swain, 2013, p.619). On average, CVD kills 17.1 million people a year in the United States (Swain, 2013, p.619). CVD encompasses sub diseases that affect the heart and the circulatory system. Myocardial infarction is a life threatening product of CVD and is commonly known as a heart attack. Blood flow is occluded to a section of the heart in response to thrombus which is a blood clot formed in the vessel. The occluded section results in heart muscle death (Swain, 2013, p.619). Every year, an average of 785,000 United States citizens die from a myocardial infarction; of those: 470,000 will have a recurrent episode (Balady et al., 2011). Within five years of the initial myocardial infarction 22% of men and women will suffer a fatal myocardial infarction or fatal coronary heart disease (CHD) (Balady et al., 2011). Cardiac rehabilitation is a form of secondary prevention used post myocardial infarction, with chronic stable angina, heart failure, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) or percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA). Cardiac rehabilitation aims to stabilize the condition, slow the progressive rate of the disease, and in some instances reverse CVD (Balady et al., 2011). A primary group is a small, relatively permanent, intimate, and unspecialized group that develops a sense of we ; a face to face group that entails close emotional ties. A type of group that is less characteristic of groups in modern society where impersonality and individualism tend to dominate (Charon p. 327). The Hallway Hangers know as a group that work is highly important in order to support them. The boys have all held summer time jobs. All of them, except for one of the members have pursued fulltime work, but none have been able to obtain meaningful employment. Every time one of them thinks they have a decent job, something happens and it doesn t work out for them. This type of firsthand experience in the job market further deflates any illusions they might have had about the openness of the opportunity structure (Macleod p. 164). In contrast, the Brothers as a group look forward to a more optimistic future where work is the central goal. For this group, work is an exclusively summer time affair, in fact only one member is on the job market full time (Macleod p. 167). This is one of the reasons why they still have a positive attitude towards the labor market, they have not been shut out or had a job fall through on them. The statement of purpose which begins the work seems to contradict this hypothesis. Herodotus claims to wish to prevent the traces of human events from being erased by time, and to preserve the fame of the important and remarkable achievements [Herodotus, 1.0]. The underlying assumption here is that the author is preserving these events and achievements for future generations and perhaps even future civilizations. The text however does not does not follow these guidelines. Herodotus assumes that his reader will have certain amount of common knowledge. Herodotus tangentially discusses almost everything which is brought up in his historical narrative. Any subject, region, or people that is mentioned within the primary structure is a candidate for secondary structure examination. Most often this comes in the form of a discussion of some land that the Persians conquered. These secondary structure tangents often include their own historical narratives, geographical descriptions, and anthropological observations. The secondary structure of The Histories almost obscures the primary structure, making it difficult for a casual or first time reader to follow the overall narative. So we are presented with a narrative history quite similar to a modern history but which goes off on tangents on subjects when they first appear in the narrative (this of course includes tangents off of tangents). The structure of The Histories presents a problem. The secondary structure of The Histories almost obscures the primary structure, making the book difficult to follow. We are presented with two possibilities. Either Herodotus is not a good author or The Histories was not meant to be read as a book. Given the oral nature of fifth century Athens the later is far more likely. Books were likely a rarity in Herodotus time given the difficulty in reproducing them. Given the oral ... In The Looking Glass Wars, Frank Beddor uses conflict to transform Alyss from a mischievous, endearing, and naive girl to a fond of, praised, and comfortable young woman so that she can defeat Redd and take back the Heart Queendom. In the beginning of the novel, Princess Alyss is characterized as mischievous, endearing, and naive. Alyss loves to play pranks such as dropping jollyjellies from an open window and watching them splat on the guards below (Beddor 11). Instead of behaving like a proper princess, she prefers getting into trouble with her best friend, Dodge. However, her pranks are never mean spirited; Alyss just enjoys having fun. Although Alyss is mischievous, her father finds Alyss to be a delightful creature (Beddor 19). Besides her parents, other adults who even sometimes find themselves as Alyss s targets, such as Bibwit Harte, also, find Alyss to be endearing. They appreciate her playfulness and are charmed by her. Since Alyss is so accustomed to people loving her, she barely questions, Where did you come from? when a kitten randomly appears as a birthday present for her (Beddor 41). Alyss is naïve and never suspects ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To start with Jamaica s roadways are the opposite of the United States. The people were different as well. The clothing attire they wore was way different from what I was used too. I was taught not to be narrow minded, having respect (Wood 172), and to have tolerance (Wood 171) toward other cultures. Another part of this experience was the language this culture spoke. They had their own native language, but spoke English. When they spoke English, they spoke it extremely fast and it wasn t the easiest to understand. Their paralanguage (Wood 104) wasn t something I was used to either. The way I responded to them, was to slow down my own paralanguage and to speak more clearly without using any slang. Dead Chivalry in the Wife of Bath’s Tale In the time period between 1066 and 1485, better known as the medieval age, a set of standards and how people are placed into order of importance in society is known as feudalism. In this caste system there are four groups; Kings, Barons, Vassals, and Serfs. The main individual of focus comes from the vassals, better known as the knight. Knights from this time period start out around 7 years old and are taught a code of chivalry (code of conduct) and the basics of knight hood. This period included philosophy, art, music, literature. (https://www.bl.uk/romantics and victorians/articles/the romantics) Romantics believed that men and women should not be guided by rules placed on them by society but led by warm emotions that promoted a sense of freedom. William Blake was one of the poets that began the Romantic Age who promoted self expression but was weighed down by the importance and standards of religion. Literary work during Romanticism had a strong emphasis in implementing nature, emotion over logic, imagination over reason, and no division between art and literature. These works placed focus on human personality affected by political and social causes. These became dominant themes in romantic poetry which made literature much more complex. As empires rise and expand, it becomes necessary to create a legal code that standardizes punishment, institutes a form of common law, and protects society from arbitrary abuses of power. These principles were formally established relatively early in the western world, and became the foundations upon which later government institutions created their legal systems. The Code of Hammurabi, the Twelve Tables, and Magna Carta, all represent key moments in the evolution of legal thought and practice. Not only do they show the legal and political direction of the empires, but also the progression of their social values The Babylonian empire s success was due in large part to its powerful sixth king, Hammurabi who reigned from 1792 1750 B.C.E. At the age of twenty five he succeeded to the throne and devoted the first thirty years of his reign to wars of conquest. His military success meant that his empire now possessed a diverse population that was difficult to placate. To aid in unifying the empire and making punishments standard and universal, he issued the Code of Hammurabi. In three hundred clauses, Hammurabi established the rudiments of common law. • 34. Analysis Of Ben Jonson s Ode To Shakespeare This week s lecture is focused on Ben Jonson, his love hate relationship with Shakespeare, his lyric poetry, Jonson s purpose, Jonson s life, and Volpone . Jonson was constantly compared to Shakespeare which is often deemed as unfair. Sadly. Jonson was always second best even though they were two different people with different writing styles, temperament, artistic interests, etc.. However, this could be due to working around each other and always being in the same surroundings. There were times when Jonson would hint at Shakespeare in his work but would often try to make Shakespeare look bad in order to boost his ego. In my opinion, I do not blame Jonson for doing this because he was tired of being compared to someone who was around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Next, Jonson s purpose was didactic. Didactic is defined the intent to teach or lecture others while having a moral instruction as one s ulterior motive. Jonson was seen as a public poet. I believe his used his poetry to teach others his neo classical virtues. He believed his poems could be used as examples to introduce people to wisdom, honesty, and his version of a good life. In my opinion, I think that Jonson s poems could be used as a template to show people how to live a better life or to show the moral of the story. I think he was trying to teach others to embrace a good moral standing. One could say that his ulterior motive was to teach people ethical principles and artistic standards because he believed that someone of his standing should feel responsible to show others that they should follow these rules. However, Jonson believed that his purpose was to defined the good life but according to the lecture this would mean that Jonson would have to discover his self knowledge and that it would have to be constant. Next, Ben Jonson was born in London around June of 1572. Although, his father died two months before his birth, Jonson was able to attend Westminster School but only for a short time. Increasing Levels Of Carbon Dioxide Increasing levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) have created problematic oceanic conditions that are detrimental towards the livelihood of coral reefs and other marine biota. The high levels of CO2 lead to a decline of ocean pH among other issues such as dramatic changes in oceanic make up and chemistry. Statistics and data collected has shown that ocean acidification will not only increase but accelerate over the next century. The ocean takes in about 1/3 of anthropogenic carbon added to the atmosphere. Anthropogenic carbon refers to the excess CO2 added to the ocean and atmosphere from human fossil fuel combustion, agriculture, and deforestation. Although much of the damage from human fossil fuel combustion is irreversible, if emissions are decreased dramatically ocean acidification may be constrained. Human fossil fuel combustion, agriculture, and deforestation also increase the atmospheric content of strong acids and bases such as HNO3, H2SO4, and NH3, which decrease the alkalinity of water as well as pH levels and the amount of dissolved inorganic carbon. Total alkalinity refers to the conserved thermodynamic measure of seawater acid base chemistry that is equal to the charge difference between cations and anions. These byproducts of anthropogenic activity are only responsible for a small amount of the oceanic acidification, but are denser in coastal waters where the responses can more closely affect humans. This is relevant because policies will need to be created in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Design And Implementation Of Select Java Concepts Nathali Santana CSC 401 Programming Languages Assignment 4 11/16/2014 Design and Implementation of Select Java concepts There are many concepts in the design and implementation of the Java programming language. Six of the many concepts are the final reserved word, permanent generation in the Java Virtual Machine, the functions of the intern() class, dynamic scoping using shallow access, dynamic scoping using deep access and the implementation of the concept of passing a method as a parameter in Java. These concepts have various effects on Java programming. From improving performance of a program to preventing variable value changing, these six concepts are all helpful in their own way to the Java programming language. Along with the implementation of these concepts in Java, similar concepts in other programming languages will also be looked at. In Java, there is a reserved word called final. In general, the final reserved word serves as a way to prevent changing the contents of a Java entity. Fox example, assigning a variable as final double x = 10.2; means that this variable will not be allowed to change its value later on in the program because it has already been assigned a value. Alternatively, a final variable can be declared without initialization and can be given a value later. This assignment can only be done once and must be assigned by the time the program has exited the constructor. The use of final is not only for variables. Final can also be used when ... After instillation of an eye drop, typically less than 5% of the applied drug penetrates the cornea and reaches intraocular tissues, while a major fraction of the instilled dose is absorbed and enters the systemic circulation. As ocular efficiency of topically applied drugs is influenced by the corneal contact time, most common method of improving ocular availability of drugs is to increase pre corneal residence time by using vesicular system and hydrogel. One such approach to improve bioavailability of drug is the use of in situ gelling system, which gets converted from sol to gel as a result of change in pH. A significant challenge to the formulator is to bypass the protective barriers of the eye without causing permanent tissue damage. Conventional ophthalmic formulations like solution, suspension, and ointment have many disadvantages which result in poor bioavailability of drug in the ocular cavity. The specific aim of designing a therapeutic system is to achieve an optimal concentration of a drug at the active site for the appropriate duration [3]. The various approaches that have been attempted to increase the bioavailability and the duration of the therapeutic action of ocular drugs can be divided into two categories. The first one is based on the use of sustained drug delivery systems such as vesicles and particulates, which provide the controlled and continuous delivery of ophthalmic drugs. The second involves maximizing corneal drug absorption and minimizing pre corneal drug loss which can be achieved by amphiphilic vesicles [4]. Niosomes are non ionic surfactant vesicles obtained by hydration of synthetic nonionic surfactants, with or without incorporation of cholesterol or other lipids. They are vesicular systems similar to liposomes that can be used as carriers of amphiphilic and lipophilic drugs [5]. Infants are born with schema operating at birth, which are called reflexes, which are used to adapt to the environment. Piaget s first stage is the sensorimotor stage, which lasts from birth to about two years. Intelligence at this point is based on physical and motor activity without the use of symbols. Hence the child uses mobility, crawling, and walking to facilitate knowledge. The child s progress is visible through the modification of reflexes in response to the environment. It is at this stage that the child learns object permanence, understanding that objects continue to exist even though they cannot be seen. Physically people have seen, measured, and recorded changes in land mass and population growth in different parts of the world due to supply and demand of resources.
