Gustav Holst was born in 1874 in Cheltenham, England. He began composing as a student at Cheltenham Grammar School and later studied composition at the Royal College of Music in London under Charles Villiers Stanford. Although a hard worker, Stanford found Holst's talents were not brilliant. After leaving college in 1898, Holst played trombone in opera companies before focusing fully on composition.

1) Découvrez comment l'inaction, c'est-à-dire le fait de ne pas agir ou d'agir alors qu'on le devrait ou qu'on est censé le faire, est un obstacle à une vie épanouie ;
> Comment l'inaction affecte-t-elle l'avenir du jeune ? Que devraient plutôt faire les jeunes pour se racheter et récupérer ce qui leur appartient ? A découvrir dans le document ;

In the past, women had to embroider
their initials so as not to mix the linen
of each family in the washhouse!
Very young (age 5,6), all the little girls
learnt how to embroider with their
mum.
The “trousseau” :
Linen: tablecloths, bed linen, towels
for the bride
and her clothes: dresses, coats,
shawls ... One can find ordinary
sheets and special occasion sheets
such as the sheets for the wedding
night, the sheets to give birth and the
sheets for when they die.
Since the end of the Second
World War, France has lost
many regional traditions.
We chose the embroidery
because in every home, one
can still find embroidered
materials made by some an-
cestors ; and because at the
kindergarten,
one learns
how to name
the letters of
the alphabet
and how to
use them.
Each child had a piece of cloth that he was supposed to dirty
during several days in all the areas of the school.
seille. Parfois il a vraiment fallu frotter fort!
After a week, each child handwashed his dirty laundry with different traditional detergents: ashes,
Marseille’s soap. Sometimes it really took to rub!
Après avoir frotté, lavé, rincé
et essoré leur petit linge, les
enfants ont étendu leur
grande lessive dans la cour
ou sur un étendoir !
After rubbing, washing, rinsing and
wringging out their piece of cloth,
children hung their large laundry in
the yard or on a clothesline!
The pupils from the youngest age group manufactured detergent from
ashes mixed with water and then filtered it over a cloth. A paste of
ashes remains on the cloth and a yellowish liquid appears. This is
potash ie laundry.
der.
An assistant of the school, retired now, came to show children how to embroider.
Children trained on a set of fine motor movement that helps mobilising the necessary gestures for
embroidery.
Chaque classe a travail-
lé sur les initiales du
nom et prénom .
Selon l’âge de enfants
ils ont marqué leur linge
de différentes façons :
feutres tissu, broderie
au fil de coton en utili-
sant un cercle à broder .
Each class worked on the initials (name and
surname) of each pupil.
Depending on the age of the children, they
labelled their clothes with different tools:
fabric felt-tip pens, cotton embroidery
thread using a hoop.
4. Les élèves se sont aussi es-
sayé aux autres artisanats :
Modelage de terre, courte-
pointe, mosaïque , fabrication
de vide poche...
Students have also tried other crafts:
clay modeling, quilting, mosaic , making
utensilo...
