Qualitative Research Appraisal
According to Schneider, Elliot, LoBiondo Wood Haber (2004), qualitative research methods, search
for the meaning and understanding of human experiences in a naturalistic setting. A researcher
obtains subjective facts in order to explore the experiences of each participant (Schneider, Elliot,
LoBiondo Wood Haber 2004). As a result, qualitative researchis a means in which a researcher gains
an insight into the participant s point of view concerning their personal experiences; in order gain
an understanding of the information given. Therefore this allows a researcher to collect subjective
information to create a description of the phenomenon (Vishnevsky Beanlands 2004).
Qualitative research is a foundation of information, which can ... Show more content on

For example, a grounded theory study by Spinewine, Swine, Dhillon, Franklin, Tulkens, Wilmotte
Lorant (2005), was conducted to uncover appropriateness of use of medicines in elderly inpatients.
The researchers found that nursing staff, pharmacists and geriatricians agreed that prescribing of
medications and counselling of patients was insufficient and the data that was shared with the
medical officer upon discharge was not adequate. Grounded theory focuses on a group, not
individuals and is larger than ethnographic and phenomenological methods.
There are strengths and weaknesses within each qualitative methodology. Qualitative research
within the nursing environment deals with people / patients feelings, beliefs, cultures and past
experiences. The strengths that come from dealing with the above are an increased empathy of
nurses towards their patient s holistic care (Schneider et al 2004). Weakness found within
qualitative research according to Schneider et al (2004) can be linked to poor research questions,
inappropriate method used, inaccurate data collection and analysis.

Nas The Space Shuttle Essay
On the icy morning of January 28, 1986, seven brave people boarded the Challenger space
shuttle. All of America sat around their televisions watching and waiting for the space shuttle to
finally lift off. One of the seven people aboard this shuttle was Christa McAuliffe, a teacher in the
Teachers in Space program and would have been the first civilian to go into space. Her students
were invited to come to NASAand watch. The engines roar sounded loudly and the shuttle finally
left the ground. It was an illuminating sight to see, until a flame started at the base of the shuttle.
The space shuttlecaught on fire what seemed like instantly, and exploded within seconds. Due to
this tragedy, the NASA space program has made several improvements to prevent tragedies like
this one from ever happening again (Carreau). NASA may have made improvements, but the
horrifying memory of this disaster will be embedded in the minds of the people of America and
Christa s class for the rest of their lives. The day that the shuttle took off was not the original lift
off date. The date that was originally planned was January 25, 1986, but was cancelled due to
weather conditions. This was the first cancellation of many. On January 26, the weather condition
was perfect, but due to the cancellation the day before, the shuttle was not quite ready for takeoff
yet. Just to make sure everything was ready, the flight was rescheduled for the last time on January

Conflict is normal...Resolution is not suppression or elimination, it is a process that can channel
energy constructively, may define the future, can be negotiated jointly, build better relations

CONFLICT SETTLEMENT is the solution or compromise imposed by mediation or arbitration.
The job of the president or team leader is to manage, resolve and settle conflicts so that they don t
interfere with the work of the board and undermine the ability of the organization to fulfill its
mission and strategic goals.
Who can tell us what kinds of things produce friction, conflicts or controversy in a volunteer
organization?
Conflict/controversy occurs when...
Unhelpful behavior in terms of interpersonal communication eg that is the way we ve always done
things , eg biased, unclear or limited communication;
Lack of information or transparency, rumor vs facts;
Different views of what information is important;
Varying interpretations of available information;
Different needs or interests and the perception that all the choices facing the organization are in
competition with one another;
Struggle over power or authority;
Differences in values eg different ways of understanding the world or different ideals in the
broadest sense (this is one of the most difficult types of conflict to resolve);

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Spinner Bags
Luggage with spinner or rolling wheels are the most popular options
It s becoming almost impossible to find luggage without wheels, even on the smallest bags.
Wheeled luggage is extremely convenient because it enables anyone to easily transport a heavy
bag through a parking lot and the airport, and on to the gate or baggage check area without strain.

only appropriate for full size planes, not for the smaller, regional jets that are becoming
increasingly common. The Victorinox, like the Samsonite, will expand, but again don t expect it to

The Starrry Night And Musee Des Beaux Arts By Anna Sexton
In my compare and contrast essay, I am going to be comparing two poems. The two poems that I
will be comparing are Musee des Beaux Arts by W.H. Auden and The Starry Night by Anna Sexton.
I will be comparing and contrasting their different plots and the meaning behind each of the poems.
The first poem, Musee des Beaux Arts by W. H. Audenis about a fictional being falling from the sky
and the people around not noticing it, but just going about their daily lives. The meaning behind
it is that something really bad can happen, but no one would notice it because they are too busy
to see what is happening or just to blind to notice it. The plot of the poem is that people cannot
turn an eye to someone else who is suffering or dying because they are too caught up in their
lives or their own drama to care about other people s feelings, or what is going on with them.
Foreshadowing is to show or indicate beforehand. This poem was indicating that the person falling
into the ocean in the painting about the poem was a Greek mythical character and the fall was
foreshadowing the ending of his faith or his life. Maybe he committed some kind of offense and he
s being punished for it, and his punishment was to fall from the sky. In Musee des Beaux, Auden
states, How, when the aged are reverently, passionately waiting, For the miraculous birth, there
always must be (Auden), meaning that they were consciously and unconsciously waiting for his
doomed faith, which was falling from the sky and

What Is An Indicator For System Generation And Consumption...
Grid frequency $f$ can be considered as an indicator for system generation and consumption power
balance, when an imbalance occurs the power system frequency will change accordingly.
One of the responsibility s of a transmission system operators is to operate the electric grid at a
certain system frequency which is the nominal grid frequency $f_{0}$, 50 Hz in Europe, where the
torque is continually adjusted to keep the system frequency at the nominal grid frequency. in

In the recent situation of the connected power grid for the ECSA, the amount of residual inertia
$J_{res}$ needed to prevent a blackout is decided by ROCOF limits regulations which is in our
case $delta f /delta t$=2 $Hz/s$, using related equations(1)(2) and by using an inertia constant
similar to that of already available biomass and hydro units which is between /1.5s 4s/ cite{hh},
we get a maximum rated power in the magnitude of 20$GW$ which is to put in context
Significantly lower than the total installed hydro power capacity of 136 $GW$ in the EU 27, with
an additional 62 $GW$ in Norway, Switzerland,
Turkey, Croatia and Iceland combined cite{hydro}, so it is clear that hydro along with other RES
such as biomass can generate the needed $J_{res}$ for the scenario discussed without calculating
existing synchronous generators inertia nor calculating the inertia generated from synchronous
loads, in other words even by the continuous decrease in synchronous generation inertia it won`t
be expected to not have enough inertia in the EU 27 power system to cover a blackout scenario in
case of a single fault with a load generation of 3 $GW$ in

The Pros And Cons Of High School Colleges
Many high school students the states of Georgia occasionally think about where they should go for
college. Some students strive for the Ivy Leagues, the most prestigious colleges in the country.
However, I think that attending a school within the state of Georgia is a much better option than
heading to a school like Harvard. There are many reasons for my claim, but the most important
three are how each school accepts Advanced Placement credit, the rigor of high school
coursework, and especially the cost. The first major reason why I think state schools are a better
option than Ivy Leagues is AP credit acceptance. Generally speaking, all Georgia public colleges
accept AP credit. This is a major deciding factor for Georgia high school students for several
reasons since this can save them as much as a year worth of collegetuition. Firstly, they can

classes to be taken (Harvard University par. 15) by high school students. This can lead to a lot
of confusion. Since there is nothing official on what is required to get into Harvard, this may
lead to students taking classes in high school that are not required for them to graduate. Ivy
League schools say they will give each individual student a full ride if he or she manages to get
accepted. However, that is only the case if the income of the student s parents is less than
$65,000 a year (Harvard Magazine par. 2). That s a very misleading tactic to use against students
since they would probably have to pay a large portion of the Harvard s tuition if the student s
parents make more than that figure. I would want to hold on to as much money as I

What Was The Age Of Exploration Essay
The Age of Exploration was one of the most influential time periods in European history. This
period lasted from the 15th century and to the early 17th century. From explorers like Magellan
to Columbus. The voyages they took had a great impact on society. Though the desire to simply
explore the unknown and discover new knowledge is a typical human trait, the world s famous
explorers often lacked the funding needed for a ship, supplies, and a crew to get underway on
their journeys. As a result, many turned to their respective governments which had their own
desires for the exploration of new areas. Many nations were looking for goods such as silver and

My Journey At Seattle Pacific University
For the first eighteen years of my life I was raised in a conservative Southern Baptist church. During
my journey at Seattle Pacific University, I have been attending different church traditions in order
to find my own individual faith. One church that I have attended is Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox
Church. Since the Orthodox practices seemed abundantly different from the services that I grew up
with, I was hesitant but also excited and interested in their faith. Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox
Churchwas established in 1999 and is located in Shoreline, Washington. Their mission statement
is to be an extended village, welcoming and encouraging both adults and children to participate
in the Orthodox Christian Faith, as we grow together, like the Holy Apostles, to know, love and
serve Jesus Christ . The congregation invites any person that is interested in learning more about
the Orthodox faith or is a member of the faith to join them in worship at their parish. As their
website states, Everyone is welcome here whatever your story, your questions, whatever your
ethnic background, whatever your doubts or struggles. Come as you are, because that s where
God meets us . There are currently about 200 members that attend Holy Apostles. While the
congregation is predominantly white, there is a wide range of ages from young children to older
adults. I attended the Sunday morning Divine Liturgy with a group of friends. We were also

Content-Based Image Retrieval Case Study
INTRODUCTION
Pertaining to the tremendous growth of digitalization in the past decade in areas of healthcare,
administration, art commerce and academia, large collections of digital images have been
created. Many of these collections are the product of digitizing existing collections of analog
photographs, diagrams, drawings, paintings, and prints with which the problem of managing large
databases and its repossession based on user specifications came into the picture. Due to the
incredible rate, at which the size of image and video collection is growing, it is eminent to skip
the subjective task of manual keyword indexing and to pave the way for the ambitious and

DiVI Diversity and Visually Interactive Method
Aimed at reducing the semantic gap in CBIR systems, the Diversity and Visually Interactive
(DiVI) method [2] combines diversity and visual data mining techniques to improve retrieval
efficiency. It includes the user into the processing path, to interactively distort the search space in
the image description process, forcing the elements that he/she considers more similar to be closer
and elements considered less similar to be farther in the search space. Thus, DiVI allows inducing
in the space the intuitive perception of similarity lacking in the numeric evaluation of the distance
function. It also allows the user to express his/her diversity preference for a query, reducing the
effort to analyze the result when too many similar images are returned.

The Caribbean And C.l. R. James
The Caribbean and C.L.R. James
I was sitting on a beach in Jamaica reading a collection of C.L.R. James s occasional writings on
cricket (Grimshaw 1986). The place had once belonged to Errol Flynn. My daughter was
playing on the edge of the sea. James had been Neville Cardus s deputy as the Manchester
Guardian s cricket correspondent in the 1930s. I found myself reading about my father s heroes
in the Lancashire cricket team of that period as if it was today s sports news. I had been
devouring everything I could by James since I came to Jamaica to help establish a new graduate
school for social science research. I knew that he had lived in Lancashire when he left Trinidad for
Britain. It occurred to me that we had lived in the same places, the Caribbean, Britain, America,
Africa in a different sequence, at different times and with very different trajectories. Now,
watching my daughter play on that exotic beach, with my father s stories from childhood coming
alive again, the gap between this old black man and myself was collapsed into a single moment
by the compelling immediacy of James s prose. Generation and racial differences were erased in
an epiphany of timeless connection. I felt compelled to meet him and so I wrote the first and only
fan letter of my life.
Dear Mr James,
Like you I have lived in Britain, the USA, Africa and now the Caribbean. I started out from
Lancashire. In the last few months, I have read a good fraction of your writings, as well as a

Using A Different Setup Than A Standard Linear Optical System
Using a different setup than a standard linear optical system, [SOURCE]Choi et al. are able to use
trapped ions as qubits in an optical quantum computer. As a direct result, unique possibilities for
addressing scalability issues are discovered. Since trapped ions already have fundamentally low
levels of coherent error, suppression of that error in a scaled quantum computerrequires significantly
less error correction. Also, the group demonstrates an architecture in which more than two
entangled qubits could be addressed simultaneously, further expanding the possibility of scaling.
Some research indicates that linear optical systems could contain unexplored features that would
greatly increase the feasibility of scalability for quantum... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Properties like this make working with double donor systems much easier. Still, some of the end
results of experiments using single dot schemes have advanced quantum computing in general, via
a combination of multiple schemes. An article by CalderГіn et al., in tandem with other previous
experiments that allow for coherence times near a second, provide a possible solution to avoiding
coherent error. The use of a single electron donor for isolated qubits has one interesting result:
CalderГіn describes the unique state when he says if they form a triplet, selection rules imply a
much longer lived state. This unique situation does not come as a result of double donors, only
single. By using only single dot triplets, it might be possible to combine the system with others
because of its abnormally long coherence time and high accuracy. As discussed, the use of single
dot architecture could be combined in unique ways with linear optical schemes. [SOURCE]
Economou et al. support this idea, stating [s]pins...have received a great deal of attention because
they interact strongly with light and provide the opportunity for ultrafast all optical implementation
of logical operations. While the negative implications of that statement, especially in decoherence

Relevance And Effectiveness Of Intelligence Tests
Emmanuel Ndukwe
AP Seminar
Mrs. Kristel Behrend
14 December 2015
The Relevance and Effectiveness of Intelligence Tests Intelligence tests are the most widely used
method for assessing intelligence. This method has developed greatly over the past several decades.
However, intelligence tests have continually been scrutinized for various reasons and due to this
criticism, one maycan suggest that intelligence tests may be inaccurate measurements of
intelligence. This issue is important because, in today s time, intelligence tests are used to
determine various things that pertain to individuals, and it would be wrong that for an individual
to be put in a category in which he or she does not fitis not to be in. The purpose of this paper is to
prove this to its respective audience by looking at our current standards of intelligence tests, what
intelligence tests cover, various flaws of intelligence and how to improve intelligence tests.
According to current standards, before an intelligence test can be used to assess intelligence, it
must meet certain criteria. An intelligence test must be reliable ( How Do We Measure
Intelligence? ). The reliability of a test refers to the consistency of the results of test takers ( How
Do You Measure Intelligence? ). If a test shows significant variation in its scores, then the results
cannot be considered accurate. Inaccurate scores cannot be used for other purposes such as
predicting future information. An intelligence test must be

A Interview About A Former Florida Atlantic University...
As I reflect on my life, I can t imagine my life without sports. Sports is my passion and the one
thing that keeps me sane and happy. This assignment has showed me the love I have for sports
and how it consumes my whole life. My whole life revolves around it. As I am sitting down
writing this paper, I am listening to an interview about a former Florida Atlantic University
football player who is now dealing with life after the NFL. His name is Christian Milstead, a
2015 Exercise Science and Health Promotion graduate. After the 2015 NFL draft, Milstead was
invited to take part of the Green Bay Packers rookie minicamp. Unfortunately, he wasn t one of
the 300 people who made it on a NFL roster. Milstead, however, life is going great. Of course, he
would love to be playing on Sundays, but he is enjoying life as a Personal Trainer Director for
one of LA Fitness locations in South Florida. I thought coming out of college I would working

adjust to life as a teacher. Every day I miss waking up every morning to go and report on FAU. I
was a sports director for FAU s student media outlet OwlTV and I was more of a sideline reporter

Self Regulation And Education-Not Advertising
Advertising, we all know it and we all have a love hate relationship for it. The most current topic on
advertising right now is, whether or not advertisement s targeting the youth of this nation should be
allowed. There are many arguments on both sides that make very valid and convincing arguments,
yet overall it all comes down to how you view the world. Personally I believe that, if moderated,
advertisements targeting a young audience are not harmful enough to ban them overall. In the
article Self Regulation and EducationNot legislation the writer supports the contiuance of children s
advertising. The article points out that advertising not only helps the economy grow but creates
smart consumers out of the youth who watch them.

Immigration Of The United States
Through all of the events in history that happened to the United States, the issue lurking around for
over 250 years and counting, which began ages ago, is immigration. In the U.S daily, there are
approximately 70,000 foreigners that travel here from various countries from different parts of the
world. Within the 70,000 travelers, over 60,000 of them are tourists, businessmen, and students. In
the United States currently, with every 2,000 legal immigrants, there are 5,000 illegal immigrants.
Since the 1990 s, illegal immigrants have been tremendously outnumbering legal immigrants by
millions. Because of this ruckus with illegal immigrants, U.S lawmakers have made many attempts
to restructure the immigration laws so that we can actually... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In 1891, the Federal Government took control of admitting, inspecting, rejecting, and processing
all immigrants that enter into the United States. On January 2, 1892, a U.S immigration station
opened its doors on Ellis Island in New York Harbor. In 1903, revisions and correction were
made to the 1891 Act regarding immigration. The US immigration Act of 1907 reorganized the
states that bordered Mexico, which at the time were Arizona, New Mexico and a chunk of
Texas. Between 1917 and 1924 there were a series of laws that were ratified to limit the number
of new aliens. These laws established the Quota System and forced passport requirements. They
also expanded the categories of excludable aliens and banned all Asians except the Japanese. A
1924 Act was created to reduce the number of US immigration visas and allocated them on the
foundation of national origin. In 1940, The Alien Registration Act required all non U.S. citizens
within the United States to register with the Government and receive an Alien Registration Receipt
Card, which was later called a Green Card. The Passage of the Internal Security Act of 1950
depicted the Alien Registration Receipt Card. Legal immigrants had their cards replaced with what
commonly became known as the green card . The 1952 Act is what started the modern day US
immigration system. It created a quota system that inflicts limits on a per country

Canada Welcomes An Ethno Cultural Diversity And Follows...
In 2012, Canada received approximately 23,000 refugees and their families (Statistics Canada,
2012). Canada welcomes an ethno cultural diversity and follows the international mandate to
ensure safety, stability and accessibility to health services for refugees. The refugees come from
different countries, which are socioeconomically unstable, and they are in search of stability and a
better destiny. Canada is recognized as one of the most developed countries in the world, it is
undeniable that the protection of refugees will be provided. The Ottawa Newcomer Clinic, located
in Ottawa, is one of the agencies that welcomes newcomer refugees. This clinic plays an essential
role in the reintegration of refugees in their new environment and provides preventive healthcare
services. To improve its services, the team members of the clinic are committed to promoting
mental healthin order to undertake a holistic approach in the care of refugee youths. Consequently,
it is important to explore the obstacles facing this particular population using the Population Health
model in order to identify startegies for mental health promotionprograms that aims to optimize the
health status of refugee youths. This brings us to review the importance of mental health among
refugees and concepts involved, such as importance of the role of health care providers who have
direct contact with the target population as well as mental health promotion. As indicated by Lucia

The Hybrid Electric Engine Concept
This summer, I had the opportunity to intern at Pratt Whitney Engines, a subsidiary of United
Technologies Corporation, in East Hartford, CT. Pratt Whitney is one of the largest aircraft
engine makers, for both commercial and military aircraft in the world, with over 31,000
employees that support more than 11,000 customers around the world. Within Pratt Whitney, there
are several areas of operation. I worked in their Propulsion Systems Analysis in the vehicle
systems analysis group. While working at Pratt Whitney I had the opportunity to work on quite a
few projects, including looking at a hybrid electric engine concept, which was my main project for
the semester. The hybrid electric engine concept was one of several engine concepts that were
discussed in the NASA Subsonic Ultra Green Aircraft Research, otherwise known as SUGAR,
research papers. NASA partnered with Boeingto identify possible aircraft and engine concepts
that would meet certain performance, noise, and emission standards. NASA expected that these
concepts would be possible between 2030 and 2045. In the Phase 1 report, released in 2011, they
looked into five aircraft concepts ranging from a 2008 baseline, which was a Boeing 737aircraft, to
a gas turbine battery concept and hybrid wing aircraft. In NASA s Phase 2 SUGAR report,
released in 2012, they updated some information of the aircraft and engine concepts used in the

Leadership Styles Of Mohandas Gandhi
For ages world leaders have practiced different styles of leadership and they have been successful
in accomplishing many things from regional peace to world wars. Whether be political, tyrannical,
or religious, world leaders from generations past to current all share similarities and differences in
their leadershipstyles. World leaders have built respect and trust from developed personalities or
communication styles to motivate and inspire others into action. All leaders can learn from past
success and mistakes of any world leader. In this paper we are going to look at the practices and
leadership styles of Mohandas Gandhi and a brief comparison and contrast of leadership styles to
Fidel Castro.
Mohandas Gandhi
Mohandas Gandhi was born in 1869 in the Bombay region of Porbandar, Gujarat (DuToit, 1996).
He is known as one of the greatest leaders from India and is said to be the father of the Indian
Independence Movement. Gandhi did not become a spiritual and political leader overnight and
was influenced by a number of events throughout his life. From an unlavished childhood, Gandhi
was able to attend law school in London. This was once step in the direction of his quest for
morality and humility in society. After graduating law school, Gandhi practiced law in South
Africa where he quickly realized the discrimination against Indians in South Africa. One day he
was booted from a passenger train because he refused to sit 3rd class because he paid for a 1st class

The Reflection Of Music
Music is one of the most important parts of human society. It is used as an emotional outlet and
allows people to express themselves. Music is a reflection of self. Music is the relationship between
tones that normally on their own would not be too exciting, but once put together they convey
emotions, thoughts, and ideas. Musicis meant to transport an individual to another world, the
composer s world. A composer will construct a story influenced by their own lives and their
society. An important part of the music is also the history behind it and how it has impacted
people. Music is defined as a practical activity, and is an art form that has always invited
theoretical speculation and critical reflection. Music is everywhere and is in everyone s life but,
not everyone knows its early history and how it evolved into today s genres. Researching, studying
and examining early music and its evolution reveals how music has transformed from simple
monophonic lines with no real timing into large orchestral pieces. Early forms of music included
one or two parts, while orchestral pieces included multiple types of instruments, each independently
playing different parts. Musicology is the is the process study, inquiry and reflection of music,
while it forms its own context and employs distinct concepts, it s clearly dependant upon and
reflective of music as its subject. Musicological research has not been able to pinpoint what the

Freedom Is A Fundamental Right Of Individual Autonomy
Freedom of expression has become one of the most valued features of a free and democratic
society. Freedom of speech and expression are a set of valued rights that allow citizens to openly
debate, political issues, political leaders, and government policies. Free flow of information is
evidence of a healthy democracy. Therefore, freedom is a fundamental right of individual
autonomy. However, it is very important to show contrast that there is a vast difference between
the allowance of freedom of expression in in Canada, compared to free speech in the United
States, where all forms freedom of speech is protected under the First Amendment of the Bill of
Rights. (Tarnopolsky 1983) However, under the 1982 Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
under Section 2b, it states that Everyone has the right to the following fundamental freedoms...
thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media
communication. (Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Section 2b) While section 2b is
guaranteed to protect freedom of expression, it is subject to Section 1, which states that all Charter
rights can be struck down within reasonable limits. The Oakes Test has been an important tool that
has been used to determine whether the proportionality and rational of invoking Section 1 was
done under a justifiable and positive measures that outweigh the negatives. In this essay I examine

Comparing the U.S. women s national team(USWNT) to the U.S. men s national team

people do not realize is how large the pay gap is. Even though they are playing the same game,

Comparing Joy Luck Club And The Woman Warrior
Comparing The Joy Luck Club and The Woman Warrior
Amy Tan s immensely popular novel, The Joy Luck Club explores the issues faced by first and
second generation Chinese immigrants, particularly mothers and daughters. Although Tan s book is
a work of fiction, many of the struggles it describes are echoed in Maxine Hong Kingston s
autobiographical work, The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood Among Ghosts. The pairs of
mothers and daughters in both of these books find themselves separated along both cultural and
generational lines. Among the barriers that must be overcome are those of language, beliefs and
customs, and geographic loyalty. The gulf between these women is sadly acknowledged by Ying

Communication becomes impossible (Huntley 46).
This anecdote sets the stage for conflict between the Chinese mothers and their American daughters.
The issue of the language barrier is a constant theme in both The Joy Luck Club and The Woman
Warrior. In the immigrant narrative, English plays a major role in assimilating into the new world.
For Tan, the struggle between Chinese and English haunts both her real life and her fiction. Tan
herself stopped speaking Chinese at age five, though she has never lost her first language entirely
(Amy). Her mother, Daisy, however, speaks in a combination [...] of English and Mandarin
(Huntley 3). Tan was taunted in grade school for her mother s heavy Shanghai accent (Huntley 3).
Because Daisy never became fluent in English, the linguistic friction merely escalated between the
two women (Amy). Tan expresses this tension in her novel when the fictional Jing mei admits that
she has trouble understanding her mother s meaning, and empathizes with her aunties who see
daughters who grow impatient when their mothers talk in Chinese, who think they are stupid when
they explain things in fractured English (Tan 40 1). The stresses of a bilingual relationship are
further explored when Lena St. Clair finds herself acting as translator between her Chinese mother
and English Irish father, who each refuse to learn the other s language, placing their daughter in the
cultural crossfire (Tan

Therefore, in order to adopt the decision usefulness approach, three major questions must be
addressed:
1. Who are the users of financial statements?
It is helpful to categorize users into broad groups, such as investors, creditors, managers, unions,
standard setters, and governments, etc. These groups are called constituencies of accounting.
* Investors * Holders of equity securities, such as common stocks, preferred shares * Holders of
partnership interest * Other equity holders or owners
* Creditors * Purchaser of debt instrument * Lend economic resources
* Manager * Inside financial statements provider and user * Has a different incentive of using
financial statements than outsiders
* Other users (provide resources) * Employees provide human capital in exchange for salary,
remuneration and pension. * Suppliers extend credit to facilitate sales. * Customers prepay for
goods and services. * Union, standard setters and governments provide policies and regulations.
In order to take a close look into various financial statement users behaviour, two theories or
concepts should be outlined here:
* Single person decision theory
Single person decision theory takes the viewpoint of an individual who much make a decision
under conditions of uncertainty. * It suggests how a rational individual makes optimal decisions in
the presence of uncertainty. * It

Tale Of An Hour By John Kasmer Analysis
As the tale starts out, she was under the oppressive control of her husband and did not have a
personality of her own. What John wanted, John got, and that was the way it had always been.
The narrator was ensnared under her husband s crude ideals, with no say in the matter, and
having an imagination as well as a creative thought process was the polar opposite of her
significant other. Kasmer claims that this lifestyle and sense of servitude prevented the protagonist
from being able to try to express her feelings and voice her opinions to her husband (Kasmer 7). It
discouraged her from being a unique individual. As you read the tale, her language and tone reflect
this; constantly referring to herself as one which creates an eerie ...echo of anonymity... (Golden
195). She has fallen into the typical stereotype as being intellectually inferior to a 19th century male.

Whenever she voices a concern, he merely plays it off as nothing important. For instance, when she
mentioned something was queer about the house, John simply says, ...was a draught, and [to] shut
the window (Gilman 469) Another example of the spouse not giving her opinion a second thought
was when the narrator wanted to do the rest cure in another room of the summer mansion that was
much prettier and welcoming than the nursery (Gilman 470). In spite of the wife s request, the
husband holds firm to his decision and sends her upstairs. The barred windows in the nursery
represents the narrator s captivity not only her husband, but by society s overwhelming oppression
towards women while the nursery represents what society thinks about how to treat a woman; they
are to be treated like mere children that need constant supervision since they cannot think for
themselves (MacPike 287).

Gender Stereotypes In The Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is not so much a movie as more of a long running social
phenomenon (Ebert). The interpretation of the film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which was
produced in 1975, opens the curtains to the cross on top of a church after being introduced to the
characters by the huge, bright red lips. Promptly after the introduction the camera moves in a
sensational gesture towards a just married couple that is walking to the front of the church with
their wedding guests, carrying the traditional wedding ceremony of throwing the newly brides
bouquet. The visual that is taken in this scene seems to be vital to the aspect behind the film, as it
is showing how dull a wedding that carries the same tradition can be, especially since it is being
related to the following scene at the castle of Dr. Frank n Furter. With the proximity of the
heterosexual traditions and the events at the mansion, it is obvious this film is meant to draw into
question the common genderstereotypes along with sexuality. The Rocky Horror Picture Show
validates that gender roles and stereotypes are socially constructed and that there should not be any
social stigma attached to personalities that cannot easily be identified as a male or female by using
irony, the use of social practice, and more specifically through Dr. Fran n Furter s character.
Even with an unbiased reading of the production, it is obvious that The Rocky Horror Picture

Aquinas Five Proofs
Alex Gay
Aaron Schultz
7/30/16
Critical Response: Aquinas Summa Theologiae The existence of a higher being or a god is a
concept that has endured for thousands of years. Religious teachings help people to cope with our
own mortality as well as teaching valuable moral codes. Yet for all of the effort and the distinct
establishment of religion, God is still an unknown entity and we have no way of knowing
definitively of his existence. St. Thomas Aquinas was one of the greatest religious thinkers of his
time and he created five proofs that he believes validate god s existence.Aquinas first proof is an
argument of motion. He believes that all motion is caused by a proceeding force. Because of this
belief, he thinks there can only be one possible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In regards to motion, there is no way of every proving that God is the first mover and the
unmoved. Additionally, his argument contradicts itself because if nothing is capable of initiating
motion, how is it that God was able to begin motion. From a scientific perspective, this proof has
been definitively disproved due to the big bang theory. All energy and matter are derived from this
mass singularity. Because of this, the big bang theory for all intents and purposes would be the
first mover. It is also important to point out that if there is a problem with Aquinas proof of motion,
there are inherently issues with his causation proof which follows the same rationale of god being
the initial source of causation. If someone were to read this argument and try to counter this, they
might argue that God was the cause behind the Big Bang Theory and that his actions are what
started the universe. The belief that God is the perfect standard for which all things are compared
also contradicts itself. If everything that is measured as degrees such as beauty or goodness are
measures comparative of god, that would imply that God is also the most evil and the most cruel.
If God is the sole creator and the cause of all things, then he inherently contains all of the bad in
this world. And since we are taught that God is the embodiment of good and right, the idea that he
is also bad would contradict many facets of our

Law Enforcement Officers Face Incredible Dangers Essay
Law enforcement officers have encountered some very deadly days. The life of a law

uncertainty of not knowing the individuals you have to approach, and being able to cope with

hours (NLEMI).The law enforcement profession is the most challenging and dangerous career,
because officers must be aware of every law and action they take at all times, manage constant
training and stress, and protecting others as well as themselves in the line of duty. Law

Social Location Paper
Social location greatly impacts why people do what they do. We are all heavily influenced by
our societies, our minds, behaviors, and overall beings are affected by everything that we each
experience and witness since birth. Henslin (2015) defines social location as, the corners in life
that people occupy because of their place in a society (p. 2). This means that different aspects and
characteristics of one s life have placed them into specific groups within their society, which can
often affect their ways of thinking and in turn, their behavior. Being identified with a group can
shape one s thoughts on theirself, and what is expected of them within their society. Some things
that in one s mind seem so normal and expected may be far from... Show more content on

One thing that I experienced due to where I lived and my parent s social class was the fact that I
got to attend a good school district, with updated technology and books. My parents success and
lifestyle were all the reason to me to be hard worker and do well in school. After high school, I
took a break in my education, which set me apart from many others whom I had previously been
societally grouped together with. This was the cause of many judgments against me, which was
difficult at times. Society s idea of normal is to attend college directly after graduating high
school, but society s normal wasn t going to work for me as I had became pregnant right out of
high school, and felt the need to focus my direction on working and making more money in the
immediate. While not immediately attending college caused me to be perceived negatively,
working so often caused me to be perceived positively. The dedication and the money were both
perceived well within my personal societal location. Society definitely has an identity assigned to
teenage pregnancy, and often responds in shame rather than support. It s odd that being a pregnant
teenager can be viewed so negatively, but the result being a young mother is viewed so highly.
Society s reactions now upon seeing me with my toddler are overwhelmingly welcoming and
positive, and almost sing praises on the fact that I am young and

Wildfire Rachel Platten Analysis
While from the outside Rachel Platten s album Wildfire which was top five on the Billboard 200
charts. Might look like a common pop album, it is really Platten experimenting with different styles
to find what she wants her sound to truly be. Throughout the album Platten seems to have been
using the different genres and styles that she had been influenced by to create the different sounds
that are present throughout. Throughout Wildfire Platten goes from a mellow pop sound in
Speechless, to a country feel in Lone Ranger, to mix of pop and R B in You Don t Know My
Heart. Platten uses her summer hit Fight Songwhich took the charts by storm to include the classic
pop sound that her fans came to love about her. Platten uses her duet with Andy Grammar Hey Hey
Hallelujah to create a song that has the Rap bridge that is common in many pop duets, Platten also
uses the song to show that she is not only a smooth and mellow performer but that she can also
create a rougher sound with her music.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Platten goes between the different styles of music that are exhibited in Wildfire there is still an
overall party pop feel that comes up in each song through the choruses. These choruses help to
create that pop feel with the classic hook you in upbeat, singable, catchy tune that will get stuck in
your head for days to

  • 2. Qualitative Research Appraisal According to Schneider, Elliot, LoBiondo Wood Haber (2004), qualitative research methods, search for the meaning and understanding of human experiences in a naturalistic setting. A researcher obtains subjective facts in order to explore the experiences of each participant (Schneider, Elliot, LoBiondo Wood Haber 2004). As a result, qualitative researchis a means in which a researcher gains an insight into the participant s point of view concerning their personal experiences; in order gain an understanding of the information given. Therefore this allows a researcher to collect subjective information to create a description of the phenomenon (Vishnevsky Beanlands 2004). Qualitative research is a foundation of information, which can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, a grounded theory study by Spinewine, Swine, Dhillon, Franklin, Tulkens, Wilmotte Lorant (2005), was conducted to uncover appropriateness of use of medicines in elderly inpatients. The researchers found that nursing staff, pharmacists and geriatricians agreed that prescribing of medications and counselling of patients was insufficient and the data that was shared with the medical officer upon discharge was not adequate. Grounded theory focuses on a group, not individuals and is larger than ethnographic and phenomenological methods. There are strengths and weaknesses within each qualitative methodology. Qualitative research within the nursing environment deals with people / patients feelings, beliefs, cultures and past experiences. • 3. Nas The Space Shuttle Essay On the icy morning of January 28, 1986, seven brave people boarded the Challenger space shuttle. All of America sat around their televisions watching and waiting for the space shuttle to finally lift off. One of the seven people aboard this shuttle was Christa McAuliffe, a teacher in the Teachers in Space program and would have been the first civilian to go into space. Her students were invited to come to NASAand watch. The engines roar sounded loudly and the shuttle finally left the ground. It was an illuminating sight to see, until a flame started at the base of the shuttle. The space shuttlecaught on fire what seemed like instantly, and exploded within seconds. Due to this tragedy, the NASA space program has made several improvements to prevent tragedies like this one from ever happening again (Carreau). NASA may have made improvements, but the horrifying memory of this disaster will be embedded in the minds of the people of America and Christa s class for the rest of their lives. The day that the shuttle took off was not the original lift off date. The date that was originally planned was January 25, 1986, but was cancelled due to weather conditions. This was the first cancellation of many. On January 26, the weather condition was perfect, but due to the cancellation the day before, the shuttle was not quite ready for takeoff yet. Just to make sure everything was ready, the flight was rescheduled for the last time on January 28. Christa McAuliffe, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The two poems that I will be comparing are Musee des Beaux Arts by W.H. Auden and The Starry Night by Anna Sexton. I will be comparing and contrasting their different plots and the meaning behind each of the poems. The first poem, Musee des Beaux Arts by W. H. Audenis about a fictional being falling from the sky and the people around not noticing it, but just going about their daily lives. The meaning behind it is that something really bad can happen, but no one would notice it because they are too busy to see what is happening or just to blind to notice it. The plot of the poem is that people cannot turn an eye to someone else who is suffering or dying because they are too caught up in their lives or their own drama to care about other people s feelings, or what is going on with them. Foreshadowing is to show or indicate beforehand. This poem was indicating that the person falling into the ocean in the painting about the poem was a Greek mythical character and the fall was foreshadowing the ending of his faith or his life. Maybe he committed some kind of offense and he s being punished for it, and his punishment was to fall from the sky. In Musee des Beaux, Auden states, How, when the aged are reverently, passionately waiting, For the miraculous birth, there always must be (Auden), meaning that they were consciously and unconsciously waiting for his doomed faith, which was falling from the sky and ... There are many reasons for my claim, but the most important three are how each school accepts Advanced Placement credit, the rigor of high school coursework, and especially the cost. The first major reason why I think state schools are a better option than Ivy Leagues is AP credit acceptance. Generally speaking, all Georgia public colleges accept AP credit. This method has developed greatly over the past several decades. However, intelligence tests have continually been scrutinized for various reasons and due to this criticism, one maycan suggest that intelligence tests may be inaccurate measurements of intelligence. • 24. The Hybrid Electric Engine Concept This summer, I had the opportunity to intern at Pratt Whitney Engines, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation, in East Hartford, CT. Pratt Whitney is one of the largest aircraft engine makers, for both commercial and military aircraft in the world, with over 31,000 employees that support more than 11,000 customers around the world. Within Pratt Whitney, there are several areas of operation. I worked in their Propulsion Systems Analysis in the vehicle systems analysis group. While working at Pratt Whitney I had the opportunity to work on quite a few projects, including looking at a hybrid electric engine concept, which was my main project for the semester. The hybrid electric engine concept was one of several engine concepts that were discussed in the NASA Subsonic Ultra Green Aircraft Research, otherwise known as SUGAR, research papers. NASA partnered with Boeingto identify possible aircraft and engine concepts that would meet certain performance, noise, and emission standards. NASA expected that these concepts would be possible between 2030 and 2045. In the Phase 1 report, released in 2011, they looked into five aircraft concepts ranging from a 2008 baseline, which was a Boeing 737aircraft, to a gas turbine battery concept and hybrid wing aircraft. In NASA s Phase 2 SUGAR report, released in 2012, they updated some information of the aircraft and engine concepts used in the Phase 1 report along with adding new aircraft and engine concepts. Music is the relationship between tones that normally on their own would not be too exciting, but once put together they convey emotions, thoughts, and ideas. Musicis meant to transport an individual to another world, the composer s world. A composer will construct a story influenced by their own lives and their society. An important part of the music is also the history behind it and how it has impacted people. Music is defined as a practical activity, and is an art form that has always invited theoretical speculation and critical reflection. Music is everywhere and is in everyone s life but, not everyone knows its early history and how it evolved into today s genres. Researching, studying and examining early music and its evolution reveals how music has transformed from simple monophonic lines with no real timing into large orchestral pieces. Early forms of music included one or two parts, while orchestral pieces included multiple types of instruments, each independently playing different parts. Musicology is the is the process study, inquiry and reflection of music, while it forms its own context and employs distinct concepts, it s clearly dependant upon and reflective of music as its subject. This anecdote sets the stage for conflict between the Chinese mothers and their American daughters. The issue of the language barrier is a constant theme in both The Joy Luck Club and The Woman Warrior. In the immigrant narrative, English plays a major role in assimilating into the new world. For Tan, the struggle between Chinese and English haunts both her real life and her fiction. Tan herself stopped speaking Chinese at age five, though she has never lost her first language entirely (Amy). Her mother, Daisy, however, speaks in a combination [...] of English and Mandarin (Huntley 3). Tan was taunted in grade school for her mother s heavy Shanghai accent (Huntley 3). Because Daisy never became fluent in English, the linguistic friction merely escalated between the two women (Amy). Tan expresses this tension in her novel when the fictional Jing mei admits that she has trouble understanding her mother s meaning, and empathizes with her aunties who see daughters who grow impatient when their mothers talk in Chinese, who think they are stupid when they explain things in fractured English (Tan 40 1). The stresses of a bilingual relationship are further explored when Lena St. Clair finds herself acting as translator between her Chinese mother and English Irish father, who each refuse to learn the other s language, placing their daughter in the cultural crossfire (Tan ... • 40. Gender Stereotypes In The Rocky Horror Picture Show The Rocky Horror Picture Show is not so much a movie as more of a long running social phenomenon (Ebert). The interpretation of the film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which was produced in 1975, opens the curtains to the cross on top of a church after being introduced to the characters by the huge, bright red lips. Promptly after the introduction the camera moves in a sensational gesture towards a just married couple that is walking to the front of the church with their wedding guests, carrying the traditional wedding ceremony of throwing the newly brides bouquet. The visual that is taken in this scene seems to be vital to the aspect behind the film, as it is showing how dull a wedding that carries the same tradition can be, especially since it is being related to the following scene at the castle of Dr. Frank n Furter. With the proximity of the heterosexual traditions and the events at the mansion, it is obvious this film is meant to draw into question the common genderstereotypes along with sexuality. The Rocky Horror Picture Show validates that gender roles and stereotypes are socially constructed and that there should not be any social stigma attached to personalities that cannot easily be identified as a male or female by using irony, the use of social practice, and more specifically through Dr. Fran n Furter s character. Religious teachings help people to cope with our own mortality as well as teaching valuable moral codes. Yet for all of the effort and the distinct establishment of religion, God is still an unknown entity and we have no way of knowing definitively of his existence. St. Thomas Aquinas was one of the greatest religious thinkers of his time and he created five proofs that he believes validate god s existence.Aquinas first proof is an argument of motion. In regards to motion, there is no way of every proving that God is the first mover and the unmoved. Additionally, his argument contradicts itself because if nothing is capable of initiating motion, how is it that God was able to begin motion. From a scientific perspective, this proof has been definitively disproved due to the big bang theory. All energy and matter are derived from this mass singularity. Because of this, the big bang theory for all intents and purposes would be the first mover. It is also important to point out that if there is a problem with Aquinas proof of motion, there are inherently issues with his causation proof which follows the same rationale of god being the initial source of causation. If someone were to read this argument and try to counter this, they might argue that God was the cause behind the Big Bang Theory and that his actions are what started the universe. The belief that God is the perfect standard for which all things are compared also contradicts itself. If everything that is measured as degrees such as beauty or goodness are measures comparative of god, that would imply that God is also the most evil and the most cruel. If God is the sole creator and the cause of all things, then he inherently contains all of the bad in this world.
