2. The Relationship Between Ghrelin And Eating Disorders
What Is the Relationship Between Ghrelin and Eating Disorders?
Introduction:
Ghrelin, commonly referred to as the hunger hormone, is a 28 amino acid peptide that has many
important roles in human digestion including regulation of growth hormone release, enhancement
of appetite, and increase of food intake (1). This gut derived peptide could play an extremely
important role in the altered eating behaviors of patients with eating disorders. Increased fasting
plasma ghrelin levels have been consistently reported in underweight patients with anorexia nervosa
. Circulating levels of this hormone have also been found to be enhanced in symptomatic bulimic
patients, while also being blunted in response to balanced meals (4).
Because of ghrelin s effect on appetite and its suggested role in eating disorders, this research will
aim to investigate ghrelin s relationship with anorexia nervosa (AN) and bulimia nervosa (BN). The
following paper will determine exactly how these eating disorders influence ghrelin regulation or
how ghrelin levels may influence the eating disorders themselves. This paper will examine ghrelin
s functions, the two eating disorders, and what that relationship precisely is by examining ghrelin s
metabolic actions as well as two clinical trials that explore its role in bulimia nervosa and anorexia
nervosa.
Metabolic Basis Ghrelin has many roles in the body s metabolism, one of which is serving as the
natural ligand for the growth hormone secretagogue receptor.

3. Relationship Between Female And Female
Leading all the way from the seventeenth to nineteenth century, essentialism and determinism lead
to assumptions made by society, in which many of these assumptions are the gender roles women
have taken on, contracting those male take and stay away from due to reasoning behind human
nature. Outside the law courts, in genderrelations, assumptions are often held as if there were an
essentialist nature distinguishing men and women and that they have separate needs based on their
biology (30). Meaning any distinguishes made between maleand femaleare all treated as part of
nature and they are different in multiple aspects in society and how they act due to their
differentiated biological makeup. It is a reductionist way of thinking and explaining that females
are meant to greatly differ from males because that is just how nature has set it up and will
always be. Society has reasoned social roles behind biological roles and tried to play off the
essentialism behind it by disguising it and justifying it as just part of simple nature. Something that
cannot be changed, in which it has demonstrated a deterministic way of living. Males and females
were meant to be different from one another, to take on roles that fir to them as society has defines
so. Ultimately females must act according to their biological and social schema or they are
considered to be breaking from the essential manner nature has established. In Kaplan s and Rogers

4. The Pros And Cons Of Electronic Technology
Can you imagine walking into your home without a computer to play games or type a paper?
Without a television to watch the news or your favorite movie? What about without your
smartphone always with you to instantly speak to whomever you want wherever they may be, or
search the web about whatever idea might pop into your head? Only decades ago, no home held
these things. Computers arrived a mere forty years ago and now rest in the hands of millions.
Technological development has increased exponentially from the invention of items like spears and
bowls of the Stone Age. Each idea stems another, giving rise to more and more creations each year.
Technology in the past century has advanced exceptionally fast. Electronic technology improves all
the time, with new phones and machines every year. Although these rapidly expanding
advancements in technology have solved various problems in the past, we should also consider the
problems they have created.
The improper disposal of electronic products, or e waste , has become problematic. The rapid
advancements in technology cause electronics to become obsolete, or out of date, more quickly.
Because they are being replaced faster, more products are being disposed of, even if they are still
working. Some components of these products have been found to contain hazardous material which
can lead to health effects and environmental pollution. Many people might just throw batteries in
the trash without thinking that they contain dangerous

5. Forensic Science And The Scientific Examination Of Evidence
The scientific examination of evidence in criminal cases found in a crime scene is called forensic
science. Forensic scientists use the same technology, tools and methods used by other scientists
doing other types of research, including microscopes, computers, and lasers. As forensic science
has advanced over the years, so has the ability to gather evidence and solve crimes. At crime
scenes, lasers provide lighting to track blood sample that not visible to the naked eye. Forensic
imaging technology is technology that lets the first responding local police department or crime
scene investigators immediately send a photo or fingerprintimage to a central database for
identification. Computers can enhance pictures taken by a camera and use features like the facial
recognition software to clearly identify blurred images. Lasers can also vaporize small portions of
paint specimens to determine the exact paint used on a car in a hit and run case. Although this
science has been used for years, wrongful convictions have brought to the attention that forensic
sciencehas been faulty for decades. The chilling truth is that forensic science has contributed to
convicting innocent people over the decades and will continue to do so if the normality continues.
According to the Virginia Law Review, fingerprint analysis which are based on humans using or
computers attempting to find and match patterns are incredibly subjected to mistakes. Not the kind

6. Porter s Five Forces Model Of Business Strategy
Chapter 9 review: The most important factor of chapter 9 is the break even analysis. In this
chapter, there are two charts showing the break even points. In a generalized break even
analysis chart, there are two break even points and in the center of the points remains the profit
area. However, in a linear break even chart, there remains just one break even point where prior
to this point is an operating loss and after the break even point is a positive operating profit. The
break even points show when an organizations revenue costs and output are equal. In conclusion,
managers must be aware of the break even points of the organization to ensure the organization
will be successful. Chapter 10 review: Porter s Five Forces model of business strategy is the most
important concept of chapter 10. Threat of substitutes, threat of entry, power of buyers, power of
suppliers, and the intensity of rivalry. Disruptive technology is an important addition to Porter s
model. Threat of substitutes deals with competitive products or services that can pull away
customers by offering better prices or better services. The threat of entry entails regulations or

7. Thomas Kuhn s The Structure Of Scientific Revolutions
Thomas Kuhn s, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, is masterful text giving insight on how
scientific progress occurs in our communities. Kuhn believed that science progressed in a
spontaneous and unpredictable manner, shaped by social and political factors of groups of
scientific community and not by development by accumulation. Although during the time this
book was published these claims seemed bold and extremely radical, in today s society we can
relate to Kuhn s views of scientific conduct. This was one of the most interesting and challenging
novels I have read so far in my academic career. I felt that it was extremely specific a very dense,
but at the same time very relatable. Being a sciencemajor my entire life, I had an interest before
even beginning the text, nonetheless while reading it. I thought the text was very enlightening
and in a manner eye opening. After reading Kuhn s book, my perspective of science has
completely changed. Kuhn s bold statements on the minor gaps that science leaves out even in its
most perfect and established form, provide a sense of guidance for his reasoning behind the
episodic natures of a scientific revolutions. Initially, I was a bit confused as to what Kuhn was
arguing for and what points he was making. I especially got lost when he began to dive into the
concept of paradigmatic science and research. But after talking about in lecture I had a much
clearer view of what the book was about and from what standpoint Kuhn was

8. Quarter View
View of the Quarter Over the Christmas holidays I visited one of my favorite childhood
restaurants in the Metairie area. Quarter View, located on Clearview Parkway, has been one of my
favorite places to eat rich, New Orleans style cuisine ever since I was a young child. Friday night of
every week my familyand I would enjoy dinner after a week of school and work. The consistently
delicious foodmakes it difficult to choose to eat out anywhere else. Over the Christmasholiday was
the first time I returned to eat here in numerous years; and it was a pleasant surprise with the warm
atmosphere, helpful staff, and delectable New Orleans cuisine. The atmosphere of the entire
restaurant popped the second I walked into the building with a warm welcome by a beautiful young
hostess, and the classic blues and jazz sounds of the French Quarter fill the building with the
rhythmic quality of Jackson Square. When I was escorted to the table, it was impossible to avoid
noticing the glamorous mural of the streets throughout the French Quarter with wrought iron
fences, balconies, and buggies pulled by graceful horses with flowing manes. Once seated inside the
bustling restaurant everything seemed to become calm because the tables had adequate space

9. The Environment And Governance Of Modern Cities
The topic of ecological sustainability can be complex or simple, depending on the many factors
that take place. In living systems, being sustainable means to produce more than to waste. By
creating something sustainable, it assures that the resources can be recycled and will be available
for people in the future to meet their needs. In terms of modern cities, the sustainabilitydepends on
how much minerals and energy we bring into the city(water, energy), and how we use them
effectively for our health and community, while keeping the available resources from depleting.
Not only that, the sustainability also depends on the cities form and infrastructure to support an
average citizen s daily needs. With the politics and governance of modern cities, how viable are
plans of creating a sustainable city now? Is it possible? Many nations have already agreed that it
is an important and influential issue, with harsh consequences if not tackled. The situation of a
city and its flaws also depends on if the cities are in the third world, or in a rich nation. A
sustainable city needs to be environmentally worthy, have a suitable infrastructure for all and should
be well run. These characteristics can only be achieved by proper governance and the collective
effort of the citizens. The essay discusses the importance of environmental sustainability and some
of the widely known issues of urban and rural sustainability around the globe and possible solutions
and preventions.

10. Acting With Integrity And Fairness Essay
Professional Growth Plan #3 Final Reflective Essay
Acting with Integrity and Fairness and in Ethical Manner ELCC (Educational Leadership
Constituent Council) Standard 5 defines and describes Acting with Integrity and Fairness and in
Ethical Manner as A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all
students and staff by acting with integrity and fairness and in an ethical manner . The administrator
treats people fairly, equitably, and with dignity and respect. The leader protects the rights and
confidentiality of the students and staff. The educational leader also demonstrates appreciation for
sensitivity to diversity. With the help of the school supervisor, I have developed two goals for this
project, and they are: 1.The student intern will learn about the due process procedures for student
discipline, and 2.The student intern will review the current administration of student discipline and
attendance policies.
Administrators come across situations every day that demand due process. As an instructional
leader, the principal should treat everyone fairly and procedurally. I have examined the laws of
Due Process and their application at Palmetto School. This project benefitted me in learning about
the due process procedures for student discipline and create a guide to assist the staff in
understanding due process. As part of my evaluation, I have interviewed the assistant principal,

Can you imagine embarrassing the infamous Adolf Hitler in front of the whole world? Jesse
Owens did that in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. It was not an easy road for him to get there, but he
did it by putting enough effort and hard work forward. Jesse Owens was able to overcome racial
judgment by surviving a poverty struck childhood, training hard in school, and by winning the 1936
Berlin Olympics. Jesse Owenschildhood was unparalleled to any other child s with how hard it
was. His parents struggled to get everyone in his family fed since their family consisted of twelve

Owens not only had to deal with how to get hired, but now had to deal with moving up north and
also getting enrolled in school. When his family moved to the north, many other negro families
were too, this time was known as the Great Migration ( Jesse Owens ). Owens life had just taken
a drastic turn, but Jesse would not let that get to him. His new neighborhood was very racially
diverse and his side of town was also very unstable economically. Owens did not let any of this
affect him and he pushed on and began his education. He was finally enrolled in school where he
learned to read and write ( Jesse Owens ). He greatly enjoyed learning and wanted to learn all he
could. He did not start off as the smartest in his class, but slowly worked his way there. School is
also where he got the name Jesse. He was originally born James Cleveland Owens and he went
by his initials J.C. and a teacher mispronounced his name as Jesse and it stuck with him ( Jesse
Owens ). Shows how he is slowly becoming a different person since he is now beginning to get an
education and focusing on other things besides just helping his family. School was not easy for an
African American though. He did struggle and got angry a lot because he knew he could be
learning a lot more, but his teachers were not giving him as much information as he wanted. He

12. The Economic Crisis Of Western Central Banks Essay
Because of the extreme severity of the Great Recession in 2008, western central banks have since
applied a series of unconventional monetary policies besides normal ones. One of the
characteristics of the unconventional policies is the intended near to zero interest rates, so those
policies are also named Zero Interest RatePolicies (ZIRP). ZIRP are designed to help the financial
market escape from the liquidity trap , a situation in which normal expansionary monetary
policies fail to decrease interest rates below zero and thus become ineffective. Without a doubt,
ZIRP are necessary tools for policymakers to intervene in the financial catastrophe of 2008;
however, even though the recession has officially ended in June 2009, ZIRP are still in effect
now. The application of ZIRP in the US demonstrates the necessity of the Federal Reserve (FED)
for both monetary and fiscal policies in the regulatory system. However, ZIRP are in fact
encouraging institutions and individuals to seek risks rather than avoid them, and the
accumulating dangers as a result make ZIRP necessary to protect the financial market and the US
Treasury from greater destruction. Therefore, people are trapped in a downward spiral, and the exit
and economic recovery are postponed.
The negative effects of ZIRP begin from an unequal distribution of new money inflows. In the US,
quantitative easings (QEs) and Fed loans were first targeted at large financial institutions.

This year in the United States there will be an estimated 1,665,540 diagnosed cancer cases and
585,720 deaths due to the disease.1 Cancer ranks as the second most common cause of death in the
US only behind heart disease. As cancer accounts for nearly a quarter of all deaths in the United
States2, many people view the diagnosis of cancer as a death sentence. This feeling of hopelessness
can lead patients to make questionable decisions regarding treatment options. While current
advances have led to increasingly positive prognoses for those diagnosed with differing forms of
cancer, the significant death rate among those same patients may deter cancer patients from seeking
traditional therapies and treatments. What people often times do not realize is that most of these
alternative forms of treatment that have not been proven to be effective may be more detrimental
to patients health than the actual cancer itself. In order to fully understand the effectiveness of the
treatments that a patient is going to receive, it is important to look not only the physiological
effects of the treatments themselves, but also the effects of the disease.
Each year in the United States roughly 2.4 per every 100,000 Americans under the age of 65 are
diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, and 12.6 per 100,000 are diagnosed over the age of 65 10.
Up until the 1970s the five year survival rates for affected patients was less than 15 percent.

14. What Is The Isolation Of Limonene From Citrus Fruits
Chirality Isolation of Limonene from Citrus Fruits Introduction: Terpenes are a large and varied
class of hydrocarbons produced by a wide variety of plants. Many essential oils belong to the
terpene class. They are made up of two or more five carbon units that are called isoprenes.
Limonene is a terpene that can be separated from orange peels almost 100% in the (R) (+)
limonene form. Other citrus fruits like lemons, grapefruits, limes, and tangerines contain the
compound as well. The purity of the oil extracted from the oranges can be determined by physical
properties such as optical rotationand refractive index. In this experiment, limonene will be isolated
by steam distillation. Normally, big molecules such as limonene... Show more content on

The mixture was heated to a gentle boil and then the distillation was allowed to begin. The heat
was turned off after the temperature of the steam stayed constant. The distillation continued until
approximately 40 mL of the liquid was obtained. The 40 mL of distillate was transferred to a 250
mL separatory funnel. A small amount of dichloromethane was used to wash the receiver after the
transferal. The distillate was extracted with 10 mL of dichloromethane three times, each time using
a little extra dichlormethane to wash each layer. The organic layer on the bottom was collected for
each extraction. All organic layers were collected in a 125 mL Erlenmeyer flask. Anhydrous sodium
sulfate was used to dry the solution for fifteen minutes. Meanwhile, a vacuum filtration apparatus
was set up accordingly. A 250 mL filter flask was obtained and pre weighed. The solution
containing the limonene was vacuum filtrated while it was kept warm in a steam bath. Additional
Sodium Sulfate was added to the solution to remove excess water. The solution was then washed
3 4 times with dichloromethane and the vacuum filtration continued. The vacuum pump was
turned off when the flask contained only a small amount of oil. The flask was then weighed.
After the limonene was isolated in part one, a few drops of it was used to find the refractive index.
A Pasteur pipette was used to place a few drops of the oil on the measuring

15. Changes In Pepe
Pepe, the nineteen year old protagonist in John Steinbeck s short story Flight , changes both
physically and mentally on many occasions during his journeys. He first changes, mostly mentally
and less physically, when he learns about his impending trip into Monterey from Mama. Later, Pepe
drastically changes physically, yet little mentally, upon his return from Monterey. Lastly during his
journey into the mountains, Pepe changes significantly both physically and mentally. The idea of
manhood plays an important part in this story since its role is central to Pepe s development. The
oldest manin the family, Pepe does not take his position seriously, but rather he acts childish and
maintains a materialistic view of the world. Before his adventure, Mama gives the first description
of Pepe when she calls him so lazy that she claims... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Speaking of mental change, Pepe s idea of what a man does and acts noticeably changes along his
adventures. Similar to his original mental attitude, which focused solely on material possessions,
he first believes that a man is defined by his possessions, his hat, handkerchief, horse and least of
all actions. Then, on his return from Monterey he tells Mama that the man said name to me
[Pepe] that I [Pepe] could not allow (135). Pepe s reasoning is that he is a man now, and so he
must protect his manhood violently when it is insulted. The last change in his definition of
manhood occurs just before Pepe dies, when he physically stands up and faces his death boldly
and bravely. Commonly, people today associate manhood with violence, strength, and possessions,
just like Pepe does. This is not a true representation of adulthood. As an adult, it is responsibility,
sacrifice, and maturity that differentiate a man from a boy. It is not how a person appears or acts,
but rather their reasoning and drive that define

17. Proposition to Reface Mount Rushmore
Over the years, America has produced many people worthy of having their faces chiseled into a
large rock for all to see. Although the current Mount Rushmore possesses faces that are very
important and worthy, they are no longer relevant in today s society. The proposition I have for
the re facing of Mount Rushmore is sure to be relevant and inspiring to Americans for centuries to
come. Edgar Allen Poe was an American poet and short story composer whose writings have
influenced literature for a century and a half. Calvin Coolidgewas a strong leader who was
appointed to presidential office in the 1920s. He also had a very awesome last name. Bob Dylanis a
nearly prophetic poet and song writer, the voice of a generation, and an inspiration to many.
Jennifer (Stelter) Schubert is a tenacious woman who has overcame trials and tribulations
daunting to any human and came out on top. I propose that the faces of Edgar Allen Poe, Calvin
Coolidge, Bob Dylan, and Jennifer Schubert be carved into Mount Rushmore for their impact on
past and present American society, leadership qualities, and overall awesomeness. Edgar Allen
Poe is credited with the composition a poem that has been extremely prominent throughout the
past century and a half The Raven . But this was not the only work that has stuck with Americans
all of these years; Poe was a man of many talents and troubles. Edgar Allen Poe was born to two
actors whom he never really got to know. He was separated from his siblings

19. American Progress By John Gast
In 1872, John Gast created a masterpiece that not only exemplified what American society was like,
but global advancement as well. This artwork, rightfully titled American Progress is a clear display
of the journey Americans were taking in attempt to civilize the world to their standards, what would
become known as the White Man s burden. While we continue to call it a burden, it seemed
anything but to those on the civilized side of it. American Progress shows the joy of bringing
enlightenment to those believed to be in need of help. Despite being labeled as a strenuous
responsibility, fulfilling the White Man s burden was something powerful countries enjoyed and by
accomplishing this onus they themselves created, they are seen as the more powerful and therefor
developed members of society. The main protagonist of this painting is the goddess like figure in
the middle. She represents Lady Liberty, a figure who is a symbol of knowledge and enlightenment.
According to George Crofutt, the commissioner for American Progress , she is carrying a school
book, testimonial of the National Enlightenment , further proving that she is the symbol of
enlightenment. With her, she drags a telephone wire, which Crofutt claims will bind the nation. By
using the term bind , this statement has two completely different connotations. The one Crofutt
intended for his use was that the nation would be unified and connected to one another. It

The Olympic games originated in Athens in 776 B.C. The more popular modern day Olympic
games began nearly 2300 years later in 1896. The games no longer represented a religious
festival, but a sports competition instead. The games can be studied via multiple aspects such as
political, social, and economic, but this paper will concentrate on the economic aspect of the
games and more specifically, the macroeconomic impacts the games possess. It is evident that
hosting the Olympics games is no walk in the park. The countries trusted with this task have to
spend billions to make the games a reality. Some people believe that the countries, even after
spending billions of dollars benefit from the games, while others believe that the money can be
spent elsewhere more efficiently. To reach a conclusion, one must study all of the different impacts
in all of the different sectors the games have.
London was not the only option when it came to the 2012 summer Olympics. France was also in the
running and was actually pretty close to getting the gig. London won the bidding race with 54 50
votes from the International Olympic Committee. The need of some economic spark for London s
economy may have been the reason why the vote went their way. London s economy had been
stuck in a recession for almost a nine month period. The question was: Are the Olympics going to
provide a positive benefit for London s economy?

servant/master relationship and the motif of magic and power to portray that destruction and
confliction will result when there is an external or internal imbalance between the disordered
Dionysian intoxication and the disciplined Apollonian order. Caliban, who resentfully serves
Prospero, represents the impulsive Dionysian servant whom the Apollonian master counteracts.
Caliban is out of control, even stating that he wishes to have violated the honor of Miranda due to

The rise of Caliban, who is drunk with retaliation, represents an imbalance between the Dionysian

and destruction, as he plots to get his island back no matter what the expenses are. This imbalance
between the Dionysian intoxication and impulse and the disciplined, rational, Apollonian order
can also be internally present. Prospero represents the intellectual Apollonian figure, who keeps
impetuous threats like Caliban in check. However, Prospero was once ironically a figure of his
own Dionysian factor, creating an internal imbalance between the opposing factors. Prospero
expresses that he was once intoxicated by his Apollonian studies, as his state was growing stranger
in his increasing submersion to his world of books. This leads Prospero to neglect and lose sight of
his government responsibilities, increasingly turning over the power of Duke to his brother
Antonio, who in turn becomes intoxicated and infatuated with the key of officer and office.

Working on a farm or in a factory has both similarities and differences, but moving from a rural to
a city job could be quite difficult. Farm and factory jobs are similar because they are dangerous
and require intense physical labor. Both the farm and factory jobs have daily hazards. In 2009,
farming continues to be the most dangerous job in the United States, due to the constant risk of
animal stampedes or agricultural machinery accidents. In factories, like Grede Foundries, ear and
eye protection against deafening crashes and flying sparks is required, as well as having all skin

physical labor needed in both Wauwatosa and Elkhorn workplaces... Show more content on

At Krusen Grass Farms in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, almost all of the work is done outdoors, with the
exception of making hay, milking, and pasteurizing. On the contrary, in Wauwatosa at Grede
Foundries, all work is completed indoors. Beside work location differences, the typical work hours
between farms and factories vary. In 2009, almost all farm owners (like Altfrid Krusenbaum) work
seventy to eighty hours per week, year round. On the other end of the spectrum, factory laborers, at
Grede Foundries, work forty hours per week and have off two or three days weekly. The final
notable difference is the overall focus on nature or machinery; the simple, natural, wholesome
farm life contrasts with the technical and mechanical responsibilities of a factory worker.
Whether through work hours or work place, factory and farm laborers have a differing
employment experience. The journey of a farm worker moving to a factory in United States
history would be problematic, due to the change in environmental exposures. While the old
homestead was relatively quiet, the industrialized factory was filled with deafening clamor, which
could result in hearing loss. Also, mastering the new factory machinery could take time to learn,
and lives may be sacrificed along the way. In the 1900s, the factory death rates rose because naГЇve

Nuclear Crisis at Three Mile Island
Abstract
In March of 1979, just ten miles south of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the Nuclear Power Plant at
Three Mile Island Unit 2 came close to nuclear melt down. Despite standards set by the Nuclear
Regulatory Commission (NRC), the plant ran for several years prior to the accident under poor
conditions. Communication certainly played a role in this near tragedy, as two engineers had
foreseen the consequences, but their advice went unheeded. Although most of the economic and
social impacts of this incident were minimal, this unpleasant event ended the nuclear power
industry in America.

In the control room, approximately fifty alarms were constantly going off. Jim Creswell was
certain that the operators down at TMI 2 were taking the wrong measures when accidents
occurred. But Creswell was considered a nuisance and a troublemaker, whenever he brought
these things to his boss attention. Everything costs money to fix, and the plant was new, they
just need time to work out the kinks. Creswell was not the only one to notice the problem. At the
Tennessee Valley Authority, whistle blower and engineer, Carl Michelson had found a major
flaw in the system in Unit Two: The pipe connecting the pressurizer to the rest of the system
dips. Like the U shaped sink drain trap at home, the bend works as a vapor lock. This is great at
home, because it keeps the sewer gasses from backing up. Here, it meant that the water cooling the
nuclear waste could turn to steam, and this steam could be trapped in the main loop with no safe
ventilation route. Michelson realized that if the plant had such an occurrence after a few years
running, the results could be disastrous, but he was also aware of how the NRC worked and how
expensive it is to change equipment. Michelson was set on getting management to notice the
problem, despite their opposition.
The design of the control room revealed the overconfidence of plant management. The control room

able to detect all EV serotypes spread across all 4 HEV species. In this study, more recently
classified EV were detected by this assay: EV99, EV102, and EV114. These are little described
viruses with no clear disease association. The epidemiology of EV in South Africa showed a

32. Social Confinement in Austen’s Sense and Sensibility
When Charlotte Bronte said of Jane Austen s novels I should hardly like to live with their ladies
and gentlemen, in their elegant but confined houses she was referring to the physical confinement
of an interior versus an exterior setting. This confinement of the setting mirrors the social
confinement of a woman versus a man in the societal structure at the end of the 18th and beginning
of the 19th century. While Austen studies the societal position of women in most of her novels, her
early work Sense and Sensibility, is perhaps the most interesting to take into consideration when
reviewing the issue of confinement. In it Austen juxtaposes the freedom of the countryside
exteriors with the confinement of the city s interiors. These settings serve as a backdrop for the
exploration of two female characters whose social status has been set back as a result of the
primogeniture of the time.
Austen s novels have always been lauded for their social commentary and critique. The most
common issue they depict is the dependency of women in society upon men, specifically their
reliance on marriage as a source of income. The characters of Marianne and Elinor in Sense and
Sensibility are two such characters, who due to their estate and income being inherited by their
stepbrother, are left to their own devices of securing a favorable marriage. The two sisters, so
different in character, mirror the contrast of the depictions of interiors and nature in the novel. The

34. Research Plan on Palm Oil Destruction Essay examples
My idea was to make a video of some sort, some kind of an educational video. I decided that my
area of interaction would be Environment. I narrowed it down to two topics which were : Palm
Oil Destruction and China Pollution. I already knew quite a lot about both of the topics, but I
decided to go with a topic that affects us and the world. Therefore, I chose Palm OilDestruction
which affects us in many ways. I will make a video about an environmental issue and post it on
Youtube, to gain awareness and to learn more about this topic, those are my goals. Palm is one of
the largest on going environmental disasters currently. (Care2) A massive force that is pushing

I planned to reach my goal by keeping in mind the specifications I had set out to achieve. I
focused on one topic the whole time which was Environmental harm that Palm Oil was causing.
I also have to meet all my due dates and not procrastinate. First step was to get all the research
done. I had some great sources that combined really well to form the whole outline of my video
as well as the body of the video. I then started making my video which took me some time as I
was working with a new program. I also ran into some problems but I was still able to meet my
due date. Since I am not a tech person my video didn t turn out amazing or anything but it had all
the important information so I think the viewer understood the message. My other goal was to
cover every aspect of palm oil such as; how it affects the environment, and how it affects people.
My main specifications are: to meet all my due dates I set out for myself, find well rounded
information on Palm oil and create a video that has all the information I that covers everything.
Selection of Sources: I used 8 different sources that each focused on a different aspect of Palm
Oil. Source A was by far my favorite source it had all the information and it was organized very
well. I used that as my outline for my video, I just added more information from other sources.

36. Alabama Repertory Dance Concert Report
Compilation Review of the Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre
The performances from the Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre was nothing short of a success. As
I watched the show, I was in awe of how well put together it all was. Coming from a performing
arts high school, I am not new to reviewing dance shows; but of course high school dance shows
simply did not compare to the performances from the ARDT. The show was composed of eight
unique and intriguing ensembles, all of which showcased outstanding performance ability.
Although every piece was exceptional, I did have my favorites. Among my favorites were Iron
Grace Mechinique, Hex, Don t Fall Asleep, Harlequinade Pas de Deux, and Lifted!. Iron Grace
Mechinique was performed to Iron City by Lusine. The dancers movements were very precise and
neat. The costumes reminded me of the movie Black Swan, because of its twisted and dark ... Show

This dance seemed to be the perfect length. At first, it was hard to understand what was going on
until the girl emerged from the covers. It commenced with a girl in a nightgown struggling
under the covers in a bed. It was clear that she was having a nightmare. As she awoke she found
herself face to face with a demon in horns who danced around her. I interpreted this nightmare as
her way of coping and confronting her demons until she could finally rest again. Strobe lights
scattered around the dancers as the nightmare went on. Once she finally felt content enough to
fall asleep, she went back under the covers. This dance was one of my favorites because I d never
seen a bed used as a prop in a dance before.
I liked how the show ended with the performance Lifted!. It ended the show off on a positive note
with upbeat music and fast paced movements. It closely resembled African dance and movements.
There were many dancers involved in putting this piece together. The amount of dancers involved in
this piece aided in bringing everything

37. A Visit From St. Nicholas By Clement Moore
Clement Clarke Moore s narrative poem A Visit from St. Nicholas , also known as The Night
before Christmas , was written in order to be read to his children on the night before Christmas. His
poem unintentionally sought its way into publication and introduced America the conception and
perceived image of Santa Claus(St. Nicholas) and established American family traditions with the
retelling of its story. Throughout the world, the poem still is read and recited to children on
ChristmasEve by parents as a tradition of the holiday season. Here, Moore tells the story of one
family s visit from St. Nick on Christmas Eve. The father, set as the speaker of the poem, is
awaken by Santa and observes his arrival, reindeers, appearance, actions and departure. Moore
effectively builds anticipation for Christmas for kids and generates feelings of nostalgia for adults
when he portrays the poem s underlying theme of the childhood innocence. He does so by crafting
his writing to sound enchanting and child friendly, reiterated in his rhyme scheme, structure, and
poetic elements in A Visit from St. Nicholas , allowing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

speaker features the use of simile and metaphor to show his abruptness and curiosity, which
reflects the same abruptness and curiosity of children, especially on Christmas morning. In the
midst of his findings, the speaker sees St. Nick and his fellow reindeers. This is one of the only
scenes in which Moore incorporates dialogue. In his encounter with Santa Claus, just as he is

I recently witnessed a local football team s coach throw his headset across the sideline and yell
at the ref as the yellow flag sailed effortlessly through the sticky air. I concur coaches need
psychological skills training, but it s unrealistic that they ever will. For the Olympics, it s a
different story. Despite the pride that prevails with Team USA stacking up the medals, our society
continues to plummet further in an uncontrollable descent toward a position where instituting any
type of mental tools and skills training, regardless if certified or not, would be something to
possibly soften or slow the degradation of our country s true soul and character. However, there is
hope with sports academies promoting mental training in young athletes, the curious public wanting
to know why athletes like Michael Phelps listen to music while waiting to perform, university

The fact that his sources of motivation were secular goals such as wealth and power rather that his
religious duties reveals his lack of spiritual depth and selfish nature. Unlike ordinary monks who
pray, study, and service their community through manual labor, he entertained himself by hunting.
the Monk in Canterbury Tales spends his time participating in leisure activities such as hunting.
Materialistic I saw that his sleeves were garnished at hand With fine grey fur, the finest in the
land, And on his hood, to fasten it at its chin He had a wrought gold cunningly fashioned pin; Into

According to the rules of the church, monks were supposed to let go of worldly things to serve a
higher purpose, however the Monk is motivated by materialistic luxuries such as expensive
clothing and secular jewelry. The expensively embellished clothing the Monk wears, along with
his love for meat prove that the monk does not live the traditional religious life of hard manual
labour and fasting. Rebellious A Monk there was, one of the finest sort who rode the country;

a black man and had eight children, including James. Before James was even born, her husband
died. She remarried to another black man and had four more children, all black. While growing,
James and his siblings look for answers about their odd lives in their mother. One of their common

She is very spiritual, emphasizing the importance of church and God to her children. Mommy

(McBride 45). She tells the children children to focus on their education and God, not the color
of their skin. To the her, the only person whose opinion matters is God. If God loves both whites
and blacks, why should it matter what color one s skin is? If this view was shared by all
Americans, life for blacks would have been much easier. This is why Ruth McBride sees no
problem with marrying a black man. He is just another human being, whom she loved. When her
first husband died, leaving her with eight children, she remarried quickly. Like the first, he was
black, and she was able to look past the color of his skin and see his humanity. She, like God,
sees past his skin and looks within. He also dies, but not before giving Ruth four more children,
making a total of twelve children, all with different skin color than Ruth. If all Americans, both
then and now, were able to look past the outside, whether it be race, sex, sexual orientation, or
religion, America would be a better place to live. James, on the other hand, is embarrassed by his
