Stage, film, and television dancer, director, and...
Stage, film, and television dancer, director, and choreographer, was born Robert Louis Fosse in
Chicago, Illinois, the son of Cyril Kingsley Fosse, a vaudeville entertainer turned salesman, and
Sarah Alice Stanton (Grubb). At nine years of age, Fosse began classes in jazz, tap, and ballet at
Chicago s Academy of the Arts. Small and asthmatic, with a speech impediment that caused him to
slur words, he later remarked that his early dance training stemmed from a need to
overcompensate for his perceived handicaps (Gottfried). He was still a child when he headlined his
own act Bobby Fosse s Le Petit Cabaret tap dancing and telling jokes in local nightclubs. Thus he
began a schizophrenic adolescence: an honor roll student at Amundsen High... Show more content

Years later, Fosse confessed that the bowler hats were used to camouflage his own receding
hairline, the gloves to hide inarticulate hands, and the bowed legs a result of his not being able to
get himself into a proper ballet turnout. I was always very bad in class, he admitted to Dance
Magazine in 1975 (Gottfried). To compensate for his shortcomings, I used to work on other
areas, such as rhythm, style of movement, and taking ordinary steps and giving them some little
extra twist or turn. And I guess my style came about mainly as a result of my own limitations as
a dancer (Gottfried). The Pajama Game, with numbers such as Steam Heat and Hernando s
Hideaway, became an enormous Broadway hit, leading to another Abbott Robbins Fosse
collaboration, Damn Yankees (1955), and introducing Fosse to the show s star, Gwen Verdon,
who would have a profound effect on his life and career. Verdon became his foremost interpreter
in the musicals New Girl in Town (1957), Redhead (1959), Sweet Charity (1966), and Chicago
(1975) (Gottfried). Fosse s hard work with creating two of his major works, Pajama Game and
Damn Yankees led to Hollywood film versions of both musicals (Gottfried). He returned to his
expertise of work to co choreograph (with Jerome Robbins) Bells Are Ringing (1956), followed by
New Girl in Town (Grubb). Fosse made his directorial debut with Redhead, a

The Fascination Of Social Network
The Fascination of Social Network Nowadays, people have their own cell phones, tablets
personal computers. According to an article Social Media: The New News Source written by
Kristin Marino, social networking sites are a top news source for 27.8% of Americans, ranking
below newspapers (28.8%) and above radio (18.8%) and print publications (6%) (Marino).
Because of these kinds of information technology products, not only teenagers start using social
networking sites, but also our previous generation, like our parents, even our grandparents. Social
networking sites are helping us to connect to other people and the world. It is a brilliant
embodiment of communicating method, especially notable for its superb spreading speed, the
wide range of information and the convenience of establishing friendships. Social networking is
how people connect to each other now and in the future. As we all know, Facebook is the most
popular social networking site. To give some statistics, there are 1,374,000,000 people using
Facebook in the world (Statistic Brain RSS), but Facebook is not the beginning of social
networking. It started with Bulletin Board System. It is an online place for users to communicate
with a central system where they could download files and post messages to other users (Liu).
From late the 70 s to now, people show a great improvement on the Internet. In developed countries,
the majority of people use social networks to communicate by chatting, blogging and

entrances, and restroom accommodations. The more people with disabilities are able to access
physical facilities, the more they will be part of the general population.
As expounded above, this means access to any indoor or outdoor spaces a person needs to use. A
reasonable accommodation to enable access for people with disabilities is expected to be provided
by the government body, the owner or tenant of the space, the service provider, the employer, or the
school. An adjustment to whatever barrier prevents access that imposes difficulties on the

2.2.3Accessible design of built environment
Accessible design extends standard design to people with mobility limitation. Its purpose is to
maximize the number of people who can readily use a product, building or service. This can be
achieved either by designing products, services and environments that are readily usable by most
users without any modification, or by means of standardized interfaces compatible with special
products for PWD (Fadilah, 2008).
The current legislation is not enough for local authorities to monitor whether the built environment
industry comply with minimum standards for accessibility for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) in

In our modern society, the mass media and popular culture have cooperative relationships between
the dominant and subordinate group, thus the media tend to reinforce and highlight the values and
images of those who create the messages and own the means of distribution. In doing so, Disney
movies exhibit clear messages for children in general; what the media define as normal reinforces
the stereotypes of gender, while intersectionality can challenge hegemonic ideas about gender by
adding multiple different categories, It is clear that the themes and messages from Disney s
popular animated films influence females perception of gender. Laura Sells (2016) suggested
the Disney version of The Little Mermaid reinforces women s struggle to make sure they secure
a place in a patriarchal society. The Disney rendition is an allegory for women trying to gain
access to the male sphere society by sacrificing women s strength. On the other hand, I see The
little Mermaid as also more liberatory because it contains the means of its own undoing in the
camp character of Ursula the Sea Witch, and in Disney s compulsory happy ending which bestows
the mermaid with both access and voice (2016, p.177), she explains Ariel transforms her fin to feet

General Electric Arbitrage Essay
GE/Honeywell Arbitrage Jessica Gallinelli s arbitrage investment firm is evaluating the acquisition
of Honeywell International by General Electric. The deal represents the acquisition of a firm that
produces components that compliment General Electric s existing product offerings. Honeywell
and General Electric are both market leaders whose combined products offer a very comprehensive
offering of airline and control components. Both firms are U.S. based corporations with vast multi
national operations. The deal appears cleared of U.S. anti trust regulators, and the legendary
stewardship of GE by Jack Welch adds a perceived impetus of inevitability, however the European
Union approaches competitive issues much more broadly by concentrating on both horizontal and
vertical merger ramifications for the competitive landscape. Gallinelli s arbitrage investment is
structured with 30% of the firm s money, therefore an anti trust investigation could significantly
erode profits if there is a lengthy investigation, which might run as long as 2 years (Elliot, 2001).
The combination of GE and Honeywell enables the firm to bundle products with financing through
leases and presents a significant threat to competitors. Competitors may create offerings of equal or
superior quality to GE, however the bundling of such a vast array of products and services may
serve to shut out competition and support a near monopoly in the aviation component industry. The
successful arbitrage must

Pop Music Post the Electric Bass
The first customers of the electric bass were Country and Western musicians, but as Rockabilly
disseminated into various genres in the late 50 s it quickly infiltrated almost every form of music
including Pop, Jazz, Reggae, Blues, and Rock and Roll. In 1958 Dave Myers, Chicago blues
musician and member of the popular band The Aces, switches from guitar to the electric bass.
He is one of the first bluesman to adopt the instrument and popularizes the Fender P Bass in
Chicago s R B scene. Artists like B.B. King, Little Walter, and Big Mama Thornton all make the
switch and utilize the instrument for their bands to combat the rising noise levels in the clubs
and roadhouses. The switch wasn t as smooth for al musicians. In 1957, during the recording of

The Importance Of Owning Property With Great Historic And...
Many questions arise regarding the decision of owning property with great historic and economic
value. In the artistic world of museums, there has always been a craving to own the most valuable
antiquities created by human kind. The biggest battle of antiquities relies on the Elgin Marbles,
which were once part of the Parthenon, a magnificent creation of Athenians to worship Athena The
Goddess of War (British Museumweb npg). This temple stands atop the Acropolis, on the site of
another lost temple to Athens patron goddess. Little is known about this first structure except that
it was still under construction in 480 B.C. when Persian forces sacked the city and demolished the
Acropolis. The Parthenon is very famous, and tourists from all over the world visit this temple to
contemplate the talent of past generations. In present times, we have Greece, which claims that the
Elgin Marblesshould be repatriated; on the other hand we have Britain, which currently possesses
the Elgin Marbles displayed in the British Museum. The British Museum acquired these sculptures
thanks to Lord Elgin, a British ambassador to the Ottoman Empire. Lord Elgin was passionate
about the ancient Greek art. Between 1801 1805 he removed about half of the remaining sculptures
back to Britain (BM web npg). This big dispute has garnered extensive media attention. Not all of
the sculptures from the Parthenon are in the British Museum, even though a big portion of them

Analysis Of `` Daddy `` By Sylvia Plath
Imagine growing up with a father so cruel, he haunts you far beyond his death. Well, in the poem
Daddy , this nightmare is a reality. The speaker of the poem is nearly 30 years old before she can
finally put her demons to rest. Her father has left her in ruins, unable to maintain a healthy mind or
a stable life. Sylvia Plath paints this vivid picture of this nightmare using a number of allusions.
While Plath begins the poem with childish, innocent allusions, she soon switches to horrid
references of the Holocaust and demons to depict the evil of the speaker s father.
After switching from her allusion to a fairytale, the speaker begins her allusion to the Holocaust,
calling herself a Jew. Following her introduction to this allusion, she references the snows of the
Tyrol and the clear beer of Vienna and says they Are not very pure or true. The speaker uses
satire in this line to parallel her father s expectations to a Nazi s. Vienna and Tyrol border
Germany and the speaker satirically says that the clear beer of Vienna and the snows of Tyrol
are not very pure. The Nazis viewed the people of these places as lesser because they did not fit
the Nazis ideals. The speaker uses this comparison to reveal that her father treated her as a Nazi
treats a Jew. In the upcoming stanzas, she again uses the allusion to Nazi Germany. She says, Not
God but a swastika. Referring back to her earlier line where she calls her father a bag full of God ,
Plath reverses the speakers tone

What Is An Example Of Consumerism In Fight Club
In Fight Club, there are multitudes of examples of the culture industry and its effects on the
masses. As an audience, it can be seen from two different perspectives; the first is in terms of the
Narrator and the second is through Tyler Durden, a second personality of the narrator who suffers
from mental illness. The narrator lives an empty life and tries to find meaning or purpose through
the IKEA cataloguewhile decorating his home. In turn, Tyler is the exact opposite he doesn t

As an audience, throughout the film it is evident that there is a significant contrast between the
narrator and Tyler as they view many things differently. Just like the Fight Club and the IKEA
furniture, the narrator becomes obsessed with Tyler and the life he leads. When Tyler is first
introduced as a passenger on the airplane, the narrator is immediately drawn to him in a way that
is different than any other person he has met. He feels a connection with him that he has not felt
before, which is why he calls him when his apartment burns and he loses all of his important
IKEA furniture. Tyler tells him it s just stuff (Fight Club) and the things you own end up owning
you (Fight Club), which completely contradicts everything the narrator had previously believed
about his home and the furniture. Through Tyler, the narrator starts to lose his need for material
objects when Tyler tells him Fuck off with your sofa units and strine green stripe patterns, I say
never be complete, I say stop being perfect, I say let... let s evolve, let the chips fall where they
may (Fight Club), instead he focuses on the fighting and his friendship with Tyler since he has
finally found something that fills the void in his life and gives it meaning. Though it may seem

Prior to the passing of the Affordable Care Act, government interventions existed but none as
intrusive and omnipresent as those in the ACA. Although, previously, fewer government intrusions
existed, the healthcare industry and health insurance companies in the United States were still
heavily controlled by government regulations. At this point time it is too early to tell whether the
reform has resulted in any economic advantages or disadvantages. While the Affordable Care Act
is still in its early stages, and still not fully implemented, some research and data is available as to
whether the reform could be successful, or has been already in any aspect, or not.

nervous, scared, thrown off balance, and a complete idiot. She is the prettiest person that I know.
She s smart, funny, interesting, and one amazing fine arts student. I some times imagined us

Lactose Intolerance Syndrome
Module four discussed lactose intolerance and dumping syndrome in great detail, then briefly
explained other disorders of the GI tract and pancreases. Lactose intolerance occurs when the
body can no longer efficiently digest lactose result in bloating, cramping, and sever diarrhea.
Lactose is not directly absorbed by the body, so lactase has to break it down into glucose and
galactose. The breakdown of lactose occurs in the last part of the small intestine, but if this does not
occur then lactose will move to the colon causing an osmotic effect. The osmotic effect will causes
water to diffuse into the colon through capillaries of the intestinal tissue. Colonic bacteria will start
to metabolize lactose, and produce gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and hydrogen gas....

Lactose intolerance can be tested for by measuring the amount of hydrogen gas that is present when
the person exhales. Dumping syndrome occurs when a person has had gastric surgery involving
stomach staples or removal of a section of the stomach. Stomach contents are emptied too quickly
into the duodenum, where they mix with pancreatic and intestinal juice which causes rapid digestion
of carbohydrates resulting in glucose. There are two problems that arise from rapid digestion of
carbohydrates. The first problem occurs because glucose is absorbed rapidly, which causes a

Cigarette Smoking And Its Effects On The Human Body
It is widely understood that cigarette smoking carries many serious health risks, especially for
cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis and hypertension (Rahman et al. 2007). Studies
have shown that cigarettes release over 4000 different chemicals, all of which can wreak havoc
on the every organ of the human body, especially the cardiovascular and pulmonary system, when
inhaled (Jonas et al., 1992; Sin and Man 2003). Over 200 people die every day from complications
due to cigarettesmokingin the United States alone, and smoking cigarettes causes an estimated
76% of all vascular disease (Czermin and Waldherr, 2003; Cole et al., 1993). It therefore stands to
reason that cigarette smoking and how it specifically effects the human body would be an
extremely relevant area of study.
It has been consistently shown that cigarette smoking impairs endothelial dependent vasodilation
in humans (Ueda et al., 1997; Poredos et al., 1999; Campisi et al. 1998, 1999). It also increases the
blood plasma levels of endothelin in both humans and rats (Wright et al., 2001; Goerre et al.
1995; Haak et al., 1994). But until now, researchers have not been able to determine what the
effects of increased endothelin levels due to cigarette smoking have on the vascular system,
specifically on vascular contractility (Rahman et al., 2007). This is of particular interest because
increased endothelin levels have been shown to play a part in atherosclerosis pathogenesis (Haak
et. Al, 1994). In this

Persuasive Essay On Safe Sidewalk Safety
Is it possible for an athlete who engages in extreme sports such as rock climbing or extreme
terrain mountain biking to sustain broken bones from a sidewalk accident? While this seems
improbable, it can happen because of the person s expectations. When using a sidewalk, it s
natural to assume that it s a perfectly safe activity. Walking on sidewalks is not an extreme sport
and shouldn t require the same intense focus of spotting fall hazards. It s a reasonable
expectation that it s safe to let your guard down. Defective sidewalks are hazardous for everyone
using them. Sidewalks must be safe for all pedestrians including joggers, children, the elderly, and
the disabled. Good sidewalks are essential for delivery workers, who can t always look

The United States Supreme Court
Acclaim for asserting the United States Supreme Court as a substantial participant in the American
structure of government has been ascribed to the guidance of John Marshall as Chief Justice of the
United States Supreme Court from 1801 to 1835. By 1835, the Supreme Court had attained a level
of equality with the prowess and prestige as that of Congress and the Executive that was not present
before John Marshall was appointed to the position. Central to this development was the Court s
adoption of the Constitution as its distinct reserve. Chief Justice John Marshall utilized judicial
review to eliminate the Supreme Court from the socio political conflicts in government and to
institute the rule of law based on the principles established in the Constitution of the Unites States.
Marshall and his colleagues erected the Court s recognized power by effectively affirming an
assertion to explain the Constitution and subsequently supplant the Constitution as supreme law in
the commonplace sequence of arbitration and by the end of his judgeship firmly supplanted the
Supreme Court s role in the U.S. system of government. John James Marshall came into this world
on September 24, 1755 in a small cabin built of logs near a small rural community in Virginia
known as Germantown. John was the first son born to Thomas Marshall and Mary Keith. His
mother and father went on to have fifteen children giving John eight sisters and six brothers.1 In the
beginning of the 1760s, the Thomas

The Effect Of Making A Person Visible And Isolated
In Michel Foucault s essay, Panopticism, the effects of making a person visible and isolated are
explained. Before Foucault addresses his theory, Panopticism, he first explains Jeremy Bentham s
architectural structure, the Panopticon. Foucault explains the Panopticon structure is at the
periphery, an annular building; at the center, a tower (184). Essentially, this means that there is a
larger tower in the center, which is completed surrounded by individual cells. These cells have
both a window facing the tower and one facing away; this allows light to shine through the
windows making the prisoner completely visible. Combined with making a prisoner visible, some
type of superior must be in the tower periodically to ensure the feeling of... Show more content on

In conjunction self policing, the panoptic structure and Panopticism are useful for drawing up
differences between people (190). Due to the fact that each of the prisoners are enclosed in their
own isolated cell, their different tempers, aptitudes, and several other personality traits can be
analyzed without the fear of imitation from viewing other inmates behaving differently. I will be
utilizing Foucault s theory of Panopticism to analyze my experiences in a nursing home that has the
same structural design as panoptic structure. The nursing home that I am reflecting my experience
from resembles a panoptic structure because there is a central nurse s station surrounded by
individual resident rooms and a common gathering space. The nurse s station and the necessary
staff rooms are at the center of the unit, similar to the central tower. This is the command center for
information about the resident s behavior and any change in their medical or temperamental status.
Ultimately, this is where the power source is situated. Conversely, this makes the resident s rooms
similar to cells and the residents inside, comparable to prisoners. In each resident room there is
almost everything the resident would need such as a bathroom, clothes, and various personal items.
Like a prisoner in the panoptic structure mentioned earlier, the

Chapter 12 Of The Disappearing Spoon By Sam Kean
Reviewing Elements of Chapter 12 of the Disappearing Spoon Sam Kean, the author of the New
York Times Bestseller the Disappearing Spoon, opens the 12th chapter of his narrative by stating
that The periodic table embodies our frustrations and failures in every human field: economics,
psychology, the arts, and... politics (Kean, 203). Kean, being an english and physics major,
observes that the periodic table, our most treasured accomplishment as a race as he puts it, is
much more than just a jumble of random letters pertaining to a specific scientific field but,
instead, a focal point of human interaction throughout history. Kean s narrative, as a whole,
focuses on the many facets of the periodic table including its scientific and nonscientific
attributes, providing the reader with a new perspective to this vast array of elements; a social
perspective. Chapter 12 of Kean s bestseller focuses on how politics had a major influence on the
development of the periodic table. The majority of the chapter takes place during the mid 1900s and

Although one might assume that the periodic table is exclusively science related and has no
connection with societal aspects, Kean proves with stories such as Hevesy s that politics in
addition to many other fields shaped the table s path. Politics helped determine the outcome of
the periodic table, or so Kean claims. Kean supports this conjecture with the fact that many of the
scientific geniuses who developed the table lived in Eastern Europe and during the time of World
War II. Because of this, the Nazi regime controlled most of the scientific research done at the time
and, as we now know, prevented the work of Jews from gaining glory. Many of these scientists
who contributed to the development of the periodic table were Jewish and so, as one might deduce,
the scientific discoveries made during this time were tainted by politics, influencing the outcome of

The central theme of Tartuffe is the exploration of religious hypocrisy in contrast to true
Christian virtue. Tartuffe is a hypocrite because he creates an outward appearance of extreme
piety and religious devotion, while secretly leading a life of crime and immoral behavior.
Throughout the play, various characters refer to Tartuffe as a hypocrite and can see clearly that
he does not practice what he preaches. For Example, Tartuffe instructs his servant to tell anyone
who asks that he is busy giving out charity to the poor and downtrodden, where as in fact he was
attempting to seduce Elmire. Other principal themes throughout the play include Dichotomy of
man and mask, where Orgon found Tartuffe on the street as a homeless man preaching of
religious faith but he was nothing more than a religious hypocrite. Another theme is the struggle
for economic power, where Tartuffe comes from being a homeless man to attempting to become
the owner of all the property of Orgon. At the very end of the play there is seemingly another
small theme called Deus ex Machina, it is shown when the officer comes in to the play to execute
the eviction order, and instead of taking away Orgon, he takes away Tartuffe because of him now
being the owner of the property. Then the king, who in Deus ex Machina is considered the god,
finds out what Tartuffe

The Significance of the French Revolution and the Ensuing...
Discuss the significance of the French Revolution and the ensuing Napoleonic State on the
formation of nation states in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
The French revolution was an event of epic proportions. At the outset, alike the English Civil Wars,
an autocratic monarch (Louis XVI) summoned Parliament, in France Estates General, in order to
demand funds and prerogatives. The outcome became very similar to the English Civil Wars; the
Third Estate rebelled (in England it was Parliament though), overthrew the monarchy, the King was
executed, a republic was founded and kingship outlawed in the process. Nevertheless, even though
the English Civil Wars and the French Revolution bear resemblances, they are very separate ...

The consequences would be devastating in the twentieth century.
Also, the successes in the battlefield would be significant on the spreading of new ideas and forms
of government; the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen, the metric system, the
introduction of Civil marriage, and the Napoleonic Code. Many of these principles are still in use
in our day.
When Napoleon assumed total control of the French state, he sought to expand French influence.
Indisputably, Napoleon was a gifted commander in chief; France s military was well organised,
adequately equipped and capably led. Unsurprisingly, the French established their military
hegemony in Europe. Napoleon played the role of kingmaker and amended the political landscape
according to his views. He terminated the Holy Roman Empire, redistributed land (for instance
Bavaria greatly benefited and Poland was given independence), Ironically, when Napoleon was
defeated by monarchies fighting to reinstitute the ancien regime in France, the ancien regime was
not fully reinstated. Many states preferred to keep the new administrative and legal frameworks;
the French legacy was maintained as it was more efficient. (Emsley et al, p. 24 25, 2011).
The French Revolution and the Napoleonic Empire reintroduced the concept of elections in the
form of plebiscites for nationwide political affairs; Napoleon himself cleverly used the media and
military bulletins to augment his standing with the French nation. The difference

After graduation from Cambridge, he worked in a Paris laboratory with the physics professor,

Essay On Improvement In Medicine
An Improvement in Medicine
In the field of medicine, there has been a recent advancement of new oral anticoagulant drugs used
to treat many conditions such as atrial fibrillation, pulmonary embolism, and deep vein thrombosis.
Anticoagulant drugs have reduced the rate of strokes by 50% and are known to prevent clotting. In
1954, Warfarin was the only approved anticoagulant drug. However, recently the FDA has
approved three new oral anticoagulant drugs called Pradaxa, Xarelto, and Eliquis.
The first new oral anticoagulant (NOAC) to be approved was dabigatran. The Food and Drug
Administration and European Union approved it in 2008. The trade name for dabigatran is

Thus, the dosage of warfarin must be carefully adjusted to keep the blood thinning effect in the
right range (Unger). Such problems have fostered research in the field of coagulation, and new
oral agents that selectively target coagulation factors have become available (Roca 847 854). The
FDA conducted clinical trials to determine the efficiency of the three new oral anticoagulants
compared to warfarin. In their trails which included more than 50,000 patients from around the
globe, the FDA concluded that the three drugs were either equivalent to or more effective than
warfarin at preventing strokes. Some advantages of taking these new drugs are there is no need to
have periodic blood tests to monitor the dosage of medicine. Of particular interest, the three new
drugs were substantially less likely than warfarin to cause a particular kind of bleeding leading
to stroke a hemorrhagic stroke, a stroke caused by bleeding into the brain, which is different from
the strokes caused by the clots that go to the brain in atrial fibrillation (Unger). The effects after
someone stops taking Pradaxa, Xarelto, and Eliquis only last for a day or two, but the effects of
warfarin can last for many days after the medication is stopped.
In an interview with Dr. Charles Frye, he explained how he determines which NOAC is the best to

Theories to Explain Behavior The psychodynamic theory would explain an individual s personality
in terms of conscious and unconscious forces, such as unconscious desires and beliefs. In the early
20th century, Sigmund Freud proposed the psychodynamic theory consists of the id (accountable
for instincts and pleasure seeking), the superego (attempts to submit to the rules of parents and
society), and the ego (which facilitates between the id and superego according to the stresses of
reality) (Cherry, n.d.). Psychodynamic theories believe childhood experiences shape a person s
personality.
The systems theory would focus on the micorsystems, which are the interpersonal relations
experienced by the developing person. Amy s challenge will also be explained through her
mesosystem, this would be the linkage and processes that take place between two or more setting
containing the developing person (ST article ). Lastly through the systems theory Amy s challenge

Woody Allen s Film Debut With The Quirky, What s Up, Tiger...
In 1966, Woody Allen made his theatrical film debut with the quirky, What s Up, Tiger Lily?.
Woody Allen was the head writer as well as one of the directors; Senkichi Taniguchi being his
partner. The two directors took the Japanese action film International Secret Police: Key of Keys
and changed the plot to focus on a secret egg salad recipe instead ( What s Up, Tiger Lily? ).
They did this by re dubbing the dialogue as well as rearranging some of the scenes. Experimental
concept of the film alone, Woody Allenmanaged to already set himself apart from other
filmmakers. However, it is in the execution of the concept that Woody Allen was able to
establish his unique presence in the world of popular culture. In addition to its humorous and
unique concept, the film does not unfold in a logical manner, keeping the viewer on their toes.
More or less, the film s plot is designed as an opportunity for a string of puns, playfully racist
jokes, farcical situations and sight gags. Centrally, it follows Phil Moskowitz, who was hired to
recover the stolen egg salad recipe (What s Up, Tiger Lily?). He is a secret agent, working for
the Grand Exalted High Majah of Raspur ( a nonexistent but real sounding country , according to
the movie). The film makes several hard left turns, leaving viewers pleasantly confused. However,
it is clear that Woody Allen has done this on purpose. At one point in the film, the action ceases

Venus s high winds and violent storms, the crushing air pressure, and more. Using the Russian
Venera missions as a guide, the scientists planned what they hope will be a safe mission for the
astronauts to travel there and back safely. My sci fi story will follow the perspective of one of
the Hesperis crew members on a journey though the inner solar system. In order to develop an
idea of how the astronauts will be able to land and live on Venus safely, we will need to study
the missions to Venus. From 1961 1983 Russia developed the Venera missions, which traveled to

though none of the probes lasted especially long. In 1978, the United States launched the Pioneer
Venus 2 probe. It made it into Venus s atmosphere and survived long enough to reach 110 km

Sociological Imagination Summary
In chapter one of The Sociological Imagination, C. Wright Mills writes, Seldom aware of the
intricate connection between the patterns of their own lives and the course of world history,
ordinary people do not usually know what this connection means for the kinds of people they are
becoming and for the kinds of history making in which they might take part (Mills). Essentially,
Mills is saying that people have tunnel vision when they do not use the sociological imagination,
which is the awareness of the connection between an individual s experience and the history of
society. We tend to only focus on what is directly affecting us while staying unaware of what is
affecting our entire society. We do not see that all of our significant life events are merely products
of history. I find value in Mills ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without a sociological view, the average person would see that my parents left the Philippines for
personal reasons. They wanted to raise a family and give their children a better life, so they
immigrated to America. Now, using what Mills calls the sociological imagination, it becomes clear
that my parents actually left the Philippines due to a cultural aspect affecting their country and
society. Basically, in the Filipino culture, families take care of their elders so there are few nursing
homes in the country. My mother is a physical therapist who works in nursing homes, so she would
not have had a job in the Philippines. In America, however, there are plenty of nursing homes
meaning more working opportunities for my mother, thus my parents immigrated to America. The
culture and history of Filipino society is the main reason that I grew up in America, not just because
my parents wanted a better life. With the sociological imagination, people can learn more about
themselves by understanding how the history of the world has affected

Who Was Responsible For The Triangle Fire
The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire happened on March 25, 1911. The Triangle Fire is remembered as
one of the most tragic workplace incidents in the history of Industrial America. This tragic fire
killed 146 female factory workers, some as young as age 15. During this time there was many
problems with sweatshops and unsafe working conditions, this fire proved those problems to be
true. The Triangle Shirtwaist Company was owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris. The
company was started by Blanck and Harris in 1900. Their company occupied the top three floors
(8,9,10) of the Asch Building in Manhattan. Each floor of their company had hundreds of girls at
sewing machines, the floors were very overcrowded. Many of the girls that worked at this company

The building had four elevators to reach the factory floors, however, in 1911 only one of those
four elevators were functional, workers also had to file down a long narrow hallway to reach it.
In addition to those elevators there were two stairways down. One of those stairways was
unlocked. The other stairway down was locked from the outside. The building also had a fire
escape, but it was very narrow and couldn t get that many people down it fast enough. With what
happened on the Triangle Fire of 1911, Max Blanck and Isaac Harris should be blamed for the
tragic aftermath and so many women dead with the fire. Their punishment for 146 females dying
was very inadequate. Seeming how they did not take the proper safety precautions and their
factory was not up to city codes. Blanck and Harris did not get charged of manslaughter or
anything for the 146 females dying in this fire, though they definitely should have. There had been
strikes in years before about better working conditions and more safe precautions in the factory.
One reporter that was an eyewitness to the fire said, I remembered their great strike of last year, in
which these girls demanded more sanitary workrooms, and more safety precautions in the shops.
These dead bodies told the results. 1 The workers wanted safer conditions the year before, so much
so that they went on strike. Nothing changed through this strike and the worst thing happened, the
unsafe conditions killed 146

The Role Of Women In Persepolis
In the distance, chaos builds and guns are shot. By standing up for their rights, people are dying in
riots. These riots were about women. All around the world, women are treated differently. The
graphic novel, Persepolis, enlightens readers about the Islamic Revolution and how women were
treated during that time. Because the author was young when she experienced the Islamic
Revolution, the novel is in the perspective of her as a little girl. In the book No God But God,
readers are educated about Muhammads views of women and the religionof Islam. The Islam
depicted in Persepolis differs from Muhammad s original vision of Islam by treating women as
inferior to men while Muhammad s vision treats women as equals. In the novel Persepolis, men
objectify women, because they were said to be distracting. To remedy the biased thoughts of the
men, women were commanded to wear headscarves and extensive clothing that covered all skin
with the exception of their face. The Islamic Regime enforced this by making it a law to alway
wear the hijab: Women s hair emanates rays that excite men. That is why women should cover
their hair! (Satrapi 74). Because women could no longer wear what they wanted, they felt
oppressed and degraded. The regime cruelly enforced the rule by telling their citizens that it
would protect women from all potential rapists since women were so exposed. In the novel,
Marji s mom s car broke down, so Marji and her dad went to pick her up. When they saw her, she

Huckleberry Finn Father Figure Essay
In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain creates three overall father figures for the
main character Huck. Each one of the father figures offers a lesson different from the others by
the way each treats him and by what they offer Huck throughout the story. The three father figures
are Judge Thatcher, Pap Finn, and Jim the run away slave. Twain also creates these father figures
in a way that is relatable and relevant to modern day father figures or parents. Judge Thatcher is
the first father figure I am going to talk about. The Judge is almost like Huck s moral compass

Huck does not look up to his father in any sense because he is constantly drunk and beating him.
As a matter of fact Huck says, I used to be scared of him all the time, he tanned me so much (26)
but as he got older and did not see his dad as much he learned not to be afraid. Pap was never
really around and everyone in town knows that. When Pap finally returns, he learns that Huck
ahs been attending school and has learned how to read and write. You think you re better n your
father, now, don t you, because he can t, (27) is his reaction when he figures this out. He thinks
that it is wrong for his son to be more educated than him so he says, I ll lay for you, my smarty;
and if I catch you about that school I ll tan you good (28) Pap saying that he will tan Huck, gives
the reader more background into how much he beats Huck for no reason at all. When I think
about Pap and his actions, I think of Elizabeth Smart s kidnapper because Pap also kidnapped
Huck and locked him inside a cabin for days. Elizabeth Smart s kidnapper, Brian Mitchell, did
worse to her than Pap did to Huck but they somehow remind me of each other because both Pap
and Mitchell kidnapped, beat, and hid their victims from

Haemolytic Anemia Research Paper
In my opinion, based on signs and symptoms this patient suffers from hemolytic anemia,
characterized by reduction in the number of circulating red blood cells, caused by accelerated
destruction and removal of these cells from the bloodstream before their normal lifespan is over.
When blood cells die, bone marrowproduces more bloodcells to replace them, however, in HA, the
bone marrow does not make red blood cells fast enough to meet the body s needs. Many diseases,
conditions, and factors can cause the body to destroy its red blood cells. This type of anemia can
be inherited, where parents passed the gen to the child (hemoglobindefects, enzyme defects,
membrane defects) or acquired, meaning it developed overtime (infectious diseases: hepatitis,
streptococcus; medications such as acetaminophen, antibiotics, ibuprofen, interferon alfa
procainamide). In some cases, the cause of hemolytic anemia can t be established.... Show more

Diagnose of HA usually begins with a review of the medical history and symptoms. The physical
exam, provides information regarding abdominal pain, which could indicate an enlarged liver or
spleen, as well as skin observation to establish a presence of yellow color. Physician can also

down in the liver, hemoglobin test to measure the amount of red blood cells, liver function test, and

The Pros And Cons Of Ineffective Methods
Can you imagine going through the juvenile court system at age 15? Today, when kids commit
crimes at a young age, they can be tried as an adult, and serve adult sentences that could put them
in prison for a large part of their life. As you continue to read, you will learn about the effective and
ineffective ways that the court deals with today s youth.
Ineffective Methods Some of the most ineffective ways to deal with today s youth are the scared
straight program, boot camp (shock incarceration), and group homes. Boot camp is a youth
correctional program, where they enforce strict rules and have harsh punishments. A boot camp s
ineffectiveness is shown where it says, States have begun to consider new approaches to juvenile
offenders, backed by research showing that incarceration actually increases the chances a young
person will commit another crime (Source 3,1). This quote shows that boot camp does not serve its
purpose. When a juvenile goes into boot camp, it is not only ineffective, but it actually increases the
chances that the juvenile will commit another crime. Another method that has proven to be
ineffective is scared straight. Scared straight is a program in which juveniles go into an adult prison
to interact with inmates. One of the people from the Spokane county juvenile court system said that
if a good kid does something bad, then scared straight actually makes it more likely that the kid will
commit another crime (Source 5). This quote shows that scared

The Democratic Accountability Of The European Union Essay
In this assignment I will be assessing the democratic accountability of the European Union. I will
begin by briefly describing the institutions, their functions, compositions and discuss how they
work as check and balance system to ensure democratic accountability further to look on to how
laws are made and what they are In order to establish whether or not the EU is in fact answerable
to its citizens.
The 4 main institutions in the EU are; The EU parliament, the Council of Ministers, the European
council and the Commission.
The Commission is an independent body. Its powers are found in Article 17 on the Treaty on the
European Union. Each member state has 1 commissioner; this was a consequence of the Lisbon
Treaty.
The president of the commission allocates each commissioner with a portfolio that oversees areas
such as fisheries, environment, and trade. General Commissioners are suggested by member states
and elected by president elect from the Council and parliament. Commission president is nominated
by qualified majority vote of the European council, and is then elected by the European Parliament
by majority vote if this candidate doesn t get the required amount of majority votes the council will
propose another within four weeks.
It could be argued that there is too much discretion in the powers of the president in that he/she can
literally decide which commissioner gets which portfolio this could be out of personal preference.
The Commission is sometimes referred to

Feminist Theory
Feminism refers to political, cultural, and economic movements aimed at establishing greater
rights, legal protection for women, and or women s liberation. It includes some of the sociological
theories and philosophies concerned with issues of gender difference. Nancy Cott defines feminism
as the belief in the importance of genderequality, invalidating the idea of gender hierarchy as a
socially constructed concept.
Feminism has earned itself a bad reputation, but it never undermined gender differences that exist
between males and females. A man can never be as good a mother as a female can. Similarly, a
woman can never be as good a father as a male can. While accepting these anatomical and
physiological differences between the two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They challenge the assumption that gender oppression is the primary force of patriarchy. They
object to portrayals of women of non Western societies as passive and voiceless victims and the
portrayal of Western women as modern, educated, and empowered.
Today, they struggle to fight gender oppression within their own cultural models of society rather
than through those imposed by the Western colonizers. They, thus, react against both universalizing
tendencies in Western feminist thought and a lack of attention to gender issues in mainstream
postcolonial thought.
Some postcolonial feminists, such as Chandra Talpade Mohanty and Black feminists, such as
Angela Davis and Alice Walker, are critical of Western feminism for being ethnocentric. Chandra
Talpade Mohanty criticizes Western feminism on the ground that it does not take into account the
unique experiences of women from third world countries or the existence of feminisms indigenous
to third world countries. This discourse is strongly related to African feminism and is also
associated with concepts such as black feminism, womanism, Africana womanism, motherism,
Stiwanism, negofeminism, chicana feminism, and femalism.
Pro feminism is the support of feminism without implying that the supporter is a member of the
feminist movement. The term is most often used in reference to men who are actively

How Water Shaped Michigan Essay
How Water Shaped Michigan
People often wonder how the continents, states, and other landforms develop their shape and
structure. Our earth, continents, countries, and states developed over billions of years and water
played a huge roll in the development, shape, and structure. Within this exploratory essay you will
gain knowledge on how Michigan, specifically, was shaped and how water affects the state in
many ways and will continue to do so every single day until the earth ceases to exist.
Description of Michigan
Michigan is one of the fifty states within the United States of America and is favored with
having the largest shoreline within the U.S. It is characterized by two peninsulas, the upper
peninsula (which is obviously cooler) and the lower peninsula which holds a vast majority of the
land and also a big chunk of us, Michiganders. The name Michigan comes from the Chippewa
Indian word Michigama which means great or large lake. Lake Michigan was called Michigama
by the Chippewa Indians. Our unique state is luckily surrounded by four of the five Great Lakes.
The Great Lakes in our region have vastly influenced our state and those around us. Without
Lake Michigan, Lake Superior, Lake Huron, and Lake Erie, we would not have the large fresh
water sources we currently are blessed with, many jobs would not exist, recreational activities
would be slim to none, and we simply wouldn t have the gorgeous views all around us. To say the
very least, the state of Michigan is

  • 2. Stage, film, and television dancer, director, and... Stage, film, and television dancer, director, and choreographer, was born Robert Louis Fosse in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Cyril Kingsley Fosse, a vaudeville entertainer turned salesman, and Sarah Alice Stanton (Grubb). At nine years of age, Fosse began classes in jazz, tap, and ballet at Chicago s Academy of the Arts. Small and asthmatic, with a speech impediment that caused him to slur words, he later remarked that his early dance training stemmed from a need to overcompensate for his perceived handicaps (Gottfried). He was still a child when he headlined his own act Bobby Fosse s Le Petit Cabaret tap dancing and telling jokes in local nightclubs. Thus he began a schizophrenic adolescence: an honor roll student at Amundsen High... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Years later, Fosse confessed that the bowler hats were used to camouflage his own receding hairline, the gloves to hide inarticulate hands, and the bowed legs a result of his not being able to get himself into a proper ballet turnout. I was always very bad in class, he admitted to Dance Magazine in 1975 (Gottfried). To compensate for his shortcomings, I used to work on other areas, such as rhythm, style of movement, and taking ordinary steps and giving them some little extra twist or turn. And I guess my style came about mainly as a result of my own limitations as a dancer (Gottfried). The Pajama Game, with numbers such as Steam Heat and Hernando s Hideaway, became an enormous Broadway hit, leading to another Abbott Robbins Fosse collaboration, Damn Yankees (1955), and introducing Fosse to the show s star, Gwen Verdon, who would have a profound effect on his life and career. Verdon became his foremost interpreter in the musicals New Girl in Town (1957), Redhead (1959), Sweet Charity (1966), and Chicago (1975) (Gottfried). Fosse s hard work with creating two of his major works, Pajama Game and Damn Yankees led to Hollywood film versions of both musicals (Gottfried). He returned to his expertise of work to co choreograph (with Jerome Robbins) Bells Are Ringing (1956), followed by New Girl in Town (Grubb). Fosse made his directorial debut with Redhead, a ... According to an article Social Media: The New News Source written by Kristin Marino, social networking sites are a top news source for 27.8% of Americans, ranking below newspapers (28.8%) and above radio (18.8%) and print publications (6%) (Marino). The more people with disabilities are able to access physical facilities, the more they will be part of the general population. Its purpose is to maximize the number of people who can readily use a product, building or service. This can be achieved either by designing products, services and environments that are readily usable by most users without any modification, or by means of standardized interfaces compatible with special products for PWD (Fadilah, 2008). • 6. The Female And Female Relationship SOSC 1920 Male and Female Relationship Essay Cheryl Chi Yue Leung 214185045 Submitted to: Karen Ruddy Submitted date: March 10th, 2016 In our modern society, the mass media and popular culture have cooperative relationships between the dominant and subordinate group, thus the media tend to reinforce and highlight the values and images of those who create the messages and own the means of distribution. In doing so, Disney movies exhibit clear messages for children in general; what the media define as normal reinforces the stereotypes of gender, while intersectionality can challenge hegemonic ideas about gender by adding multiple different categories, It is clear that the themes and messages from Disney s popular animated films influence females perception of gender. Laura Sells (2016) suggested the Disney version of The Little Mermaid reinforces women s struggle to make sure they secure a place in a patriarchal society. The Disney rendition is an allegory for women trying to gain access to the male sphere society by sacrificing women s strength. On the other hand, I see The little Mermaid as also more liberatory because it contains the means of its own undoing in the camp character of Ursula the Sea Witch, and in Disney s compulsory happy ending which bestows the mermaid with both access and voice (2016, p.177), she explains Ariel transforms her fin to feet is the way to show the conflict for women finding her place in ... • 9. General Electric Arbitrage Essay GE/Honeywell Arbitrage Jessica Gallinelli s arbitrage investment firm is evaluating the acquisition of Honeywell International by General Electric. The deal represents the acquisition of a firm that produces components that compliment General Electric s existing product offerings. Honeywell and General Electric are both market leaders whose combined products offer a very comprehensive offering of airline and control components. Both firms are U.S. based corporations with vast multi national operations. The deal appears cleared of U.S. anti trust regulators, and the legendary stewardship of GE by Jack Welch adds a perceived impetus of inevitability, however the European Union approaches competitive issues much more broadly by concentrating on both horizontal and vertical merger ramifications for the competitive landscape. Gallinelli s arbitrage investment is structured with 30% of the firm s money, therefore an anti trust investigation could significantly erode profits if there is a lengthy investigation, which might run as long as 2 years (Elliot, 2001). The combination of GE and Honeywell enables the firm to bundle products with financing through leases and presents a significant threat to competitors. Competitors may create offerings of equal or superior quality to GE, however the bundling of such a vast array of products and services may serve to shut out competition and support a near monopoly in the aviation component industry. In the artistic world of museums, there has always been a craving to own the most valuable antiquities created by human kind. The biggest battle of antiquities relies on the Elgin Marbles, which were once part of the Parthenon, a magnificent creation of Athenians to worship Athena The Goddess of War (British Museumweb npg). This temple stands atop the Acropolis, on the site of another lost temple to Athens patron goddess. Little is known about this first structure except that it was still under construction in 480 B.C. when Persian forces sacked the city and demolished the Acropolis. The Parthenon is very famous, and tourists from all over the world visit this temple to contemplate the talent of past generations. In present times, we have Greece, which claims that the Elgin Marblesshould be repatriated; on the other hand we have Britain, which currently possesses the Elgin Marbles displayed in the British Museum. The British Museum acquired these sculptures thanks to Lord Elgin, a British ambassador to the Ottoman Empire. Lord Elgin was passionate about the ancient Greek art. Between 1801 1805 he removed about half of the remaining sculptures back to Britain (BM web npg). This big dispute has garnered extensive media attention. • 17. Analysis Of `` Daddy `` By Sylvia Plath Imagine growing up with a father so cruel, he haunts you far beyond his death. Well, in the poem Daddy , this nightmare is a reality. The speaker of the poem is nearly 30 years old before she can finally put her demons to rest. Her father has left her in ruins, unable to maintain a healthy mind or a stable life. Sylvia Plath paints this vivid picture of this nightmare using a number of allusions. While Plath begins the poem with childish, innocent allusions, she soon switches to horrid references of the Holocaust and demons to depict the evil of the speaker s father. After switching from her allusion to a fairytale, the speaker begins her allusion to the Holocaust, calling herself a Jew. Following her introduction to this allusion, she references the snows of the Tyrol and the clear beer of Vienna and says they Are not very pure or true. The speaker uses satire in this line to parallel her father s expectations to a Nazi s. Vienna and Tyrol border Germany and the speaker satirically says that the clear beer of Vienna and the snows of Tyrol are not very pure. The Nazis viewed the people of these places as lesser because they did not fit the Nazis ideals. The speaker uses this comparison to reveal that her father treated her as a Nazi treats a Jew. In the upcoming stanzas, she again uses the allusion to Nazi Germany. She says, Not God but a swastika. Lactose intolerance occurs when the body can no longer efficiently digest lactose result in bloating, cramping, and sever diarrhea. Lactose is not directly absorbed by the body, so lactase has to break it down into glucose and galactose. The breakdown of lactose occurs in the last part of the small intestine, but if this does not occur then lactose will move to the colon causing an osmotic effect. The osmotic effect will causes water to diffuse into the colon through capillaries of the intestinal tissue. There are two problems that arise from rapid digestion of carbohydrates. The first problem occurs because glucose is absorbed rapidly, which causes a spike blood glucose levels leading to a rise in insulin, resulting in blood glucose levels to drop; otherwise known as hypoglycemia. • 22. Cigarette Smoking And Its Effects On The Human Body It is widely understood that cigarette smoking carries many serious health risks, especially for cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis and hypertension (Rahman et al. 2007). Studies have shown that cigarettes release over 4000 different chemicals, all of which can wreak havoc on the every organ of the human body, especially the cardiovascular and pulmonary system, when inhaled (Jonas et al., 1992; Sin and Man 2003). Over 200 people die every day from complications due to cigarettesmokingin the United States alone, and smoking cigarettes causes an estimated 76% of all vascular disease (Czermin and Waldherr, 2003; Cole et al., 1993). It therefore stands to reason that cigarette smoking and how it specifically effects the human body would be an extremely relevant area of study. It has been consistently shown that cigarette smoking impairs endothelial dependent vasodilation in humans (Ueda et al., 1997; Poredos et al., 1999; Campisi et al. 1998, 1999). It also increases the blood plasma levels of endothelin in both humans and rats (Wright et al., 2001; Goerre et al. 1995; Haak et al., 1994). But until now, researchers have not been able to determine what the effects of increased endothelin levels due to cigarette smoking have on the vascular system, specifically on vascular contractility (Rahman et al., 2007). The United States Supreme Court Acclaim for asserting the United States Supreme Court as a substantial participant in the American structure of government has been ascribed to the guidance of John Marshall as Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1801 to 1835. By 1835, the Supreme Court had attained a level of equality with the prowess and prestige as that of Congress and the Executive that was not present before John Marshall was appointed to the position. Central to this development was the Court s adoption of the Constitution as its distinct reserve. Chief Justice John Marshall utilized judicial review to eliminate the Supreme Court from the socio political conflicts in government and to institute the rule of law based on the principles established in the Constitution of the Unites States. Marshall and his colleagues erected the Court s recognized power by effectively affirming an assertion to explain the Constitution and subsequently supplant the Constitution as supreme law in the commonplace sequence of arbitration and by the end of his judgeship firmly supplanted the Supreme Court s role in the U.S. system of government. John James Marshall came into this world on September 24, 1755 in a small cabin built of logs near a small rural community in Virginia known as Germantown. Essentially, this means that there is a larger tower in the center, which is completed surrounded by individual cells. Indisputably, Napoleon was a gifted commander in chief; France s military was well organised, adequately equipped and capably led. Unsurprisingly, the French established their military hegemony in Europe. Napoleon played the role of kingmaker and amended the political landscape according to his views. • 35. Lord Kelvin s Discovery Of The Kelvin Scale William Thomson, seems like an ordinary man living in the 19th century, but what if I said, Lord Kelvin...would that spark any knowledge? Lord Kelvin, otherwise known as William Thomson, is well known for his discovery of the Kelvin scale. Without multiple inventions and discoveries made by William Thomson, the science world would be lacking much insight of thermodynamics, navigation at sea, and communication across the Atlantic. Although not an Einstein, Thomson s contributions to the science world have allowed scientists and our physics class to learn about absolute zeroand how to make calculations using the Kelvinscale. In 1841, Thomason s paper, Fourier s expansions of functions in trigonometrically series, was published defending Fourier s mathematics and in 1842, his third paper was published, On the uniform motion of heat and its connection with the mathematical theory of electricity. Through his college years, he began to notice and look extra carefully into electricity, magnetism, and heat. The professors at Cambridge taught and interested William of modern experiments that were being done involving these following topics. With more interest in electricity, magnetism and heat, Thomson wanted to find out how all of these things related and how they interacted with one another. After graduation from Cambridge, he worked in a Paris laboratory with the physics professor, Victor Regnault. Working with Regnault allowed him to gain experimental competence to help him further his education about science. After working in the lab, an open position arose at the University of Glasgow in 1846 and William s father made a careful and well thought out campaign to allow his son to get the position. At the age of 22, William was named to the position and accepted the job. Thomson, for most of his life, remained in this position and resigned his university chair in 1899 when he was 75 years old. • 36. Essay On Improvement In Medicine An Improvement in Medicine In the field of medicine, there has been a recent advancement of new oral anticoagulant drugs used to treat many conditions such as atrial fibrillation, pulmonary embolism, and deep vein thrombosis. Anticoagulant drugs have reduced the rate of strokes by 50% and are known to prevent clotting. In 1954, Warfarin was the only approved anticoagulant drug. However, recently the FDA has approved three new oral anticoagulant drugs called Pradaxa, Xarelto, and Eliquis. The first new oral anticoagulant (NOAC) to be approved was dabigatran. Such problems have fostered research in the field of coagulation, and new oral agents that selectively target coagulation factors have become available (Roca 847 854). The FDA conducted clinical trials to determine the efficiency of the three new oral anticoagulants compared to warfarin. In their trails which included more than 50,000 patients from around the globe, the FDA concluded that the three drugs were either equivalent to or more effective than warfarin at preventing strokes. Some advantages of taking these new drugs are there is no need to have periodic blood tests to monitor the dosage of medicine. Of particular interest, the three new drugs were substantially less likely than warfarin to cause a particular kind of bleeding leading to stroke a hemorrhagic stroke, a stroke caused by bleeding into the brain, which is different from the strokes caused by the clots that go to the brain in atrial fibrillation (Unger). The effects after someone stops taking Pradaxa, Xarelto, and Eliquis only last for a day or two, but the effects of warfarin can last for many days after the medication is stopped. In the novel Persepolis, men objectify women, because they were said to be distracting. To remedy the biased thoughts of the men, women were commanded to wear headscarves and extensive clothing that covered all skin with the exception of their face. The Islamic Regime enforced this by making it a law to alway wear the hijab: Women s hair emanates rays that excite men. That is why women should cover their hair! (Satrapi 74). Because women could no longer wear what they wanted, they felt oppressed and degraded. Ineffective Methods Some of the most ineffective ways to deal with today s youth are the scared straight program, boot camp (shock incarceration), and group homes. Boot camp is a youth correctional program, where they enforce strict rules and have harsh punishments. A boot camp s ineffectiveness is shown where it says, States have begun to consider new approaches to juvenile offenders, backed by research showing that incarceration actually increases the chances a young person will commit another crime (Source 3,1). Our earth, continents, countries, and states developed over billions of years and water played a huge roll in the development, shape, and structure. Within this exploratory essay you will gain knowledge on how Michigan, specifically, was shaped and how water affects the state in many ways and will continue to do so every single day until the earth ceases to exist.
