Impact Of Arch On Roman Architecture
The development of concrete and the arch was integral to the advancement of Roman architecture.
Both had a great impact on the people of Rome from all walks of life.
When designing a building, the load that must be supported is a very important consideration.
Various building materials will each have their own levels of strength and ability to support loads.
In addition to this, the way in which the building material is utilized may also play a role in the
ability of the building to support large loads. The implementation of concrete as a building material
led to much stronger walls and supports in Roman buildings. Additionally, the development of the
arch was revolutionary in its ability to support loads. The types and sizes of structures that the
Romans could build became unlike anything seen before, and they also became very interested in
working with interior spaces, as well (Ambler, n.d.). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The arch continues to feature prominently in...designs and with good reason: Its semicircular
structure elegantly distributes compression through its entire form and diverts weight onto its two
abutments (Lamb, 2000). The key to the structure is located in the center of the arch and is called a
keystone. Remove it and the entire structure collapses. The entire structure is dependent upon the
architect not designing an opening that is too wide. That would also lead to increased pressure and
decreased structural integrity (Lamb, 2000).
As you can imagine, the arch opened the door to a great many changes in structural design. The
Romans utilized it in their homes and in their public buildings. It found its way into bridge design,
as well. Yet, the arch alone does not explain the amazing advancements made in Roman
architecture. Concrete also play a huge part in shaping Roman construction. As such, it is also
important to understand exactly what concrete

Examples Of Powerlessness In The Giver
The Assumptions of Power, Powerlessness, and Existentialism in Louis Lowry s The Giver
In Lois Lowry s book The Giver, there is a pivotal scene where Jonas, the plot s main character,
was bound to being the new receiver of his community. The community is a place where there is
no war, no fear, or pain. The community could not make choices and the members of the
community did not have any feelings. As the plot progresses, the chief elder provided the children
with their perspective roles in the community in the Ceremony of Twelve. In the description of the
scene, the chief elder skipped over Jonas when giving the roles of the community. Following a
series of indirect emotional pleas from Jonas and the community, the Chief Elder welcomed Jonas

philosophy deals with the idea of the existence of the individual, who, being free and responsible,

questions such as What does it mean to be existing as a human being? are asked.

Comparing King Louis XIV And King Philip II
There are many similarities and differences between King Louis XIV and King Philip II. One
difference between King Louis XIV and King Philip II is that King Louis XIV believed in
showing off his power and being open to the people around him. King Philip II was a devout
catholic which means he took Catholicism very seriously. Phillip II was also a very simplistic
guy which means he was very relaxed on things involving him and the people around him. King
Louis XIV and King Philip II both had magnificent palaces that reflected their ideals. Louis liked
to show off his power and he did this by creating the Palace of Versailles. The architecture of the
palace displayed Louis ideals of secular issues. Louis cared about spending a lot of money just

Equality In Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron
Imagine living in a place where everyone is equal. No one is smarter or or faster, everyone is the
same. This is what everyday life is described as in the short story, Harrison Bergeron by Kurt
Vonnegut. Throughout the story, Vonnegut tells the reader what society would be like if everyone
was average. Also, Vonnegut exaggerates what people would have to do in order to be equal,
including wearing handicaps which deprive people of showing their strengths. These include;
having to wear bags of birdshot for the strong and the beautiful being forced to wear masks to hide
their faces. The theme of Harrison Bergeronis that total equality can have a dangerous outcome to
society. Kurt Vonnegutwanted the reader to learn something from

The Da Vinci Surgical System What is the Da Vinci Surgical System? The Da Vinci Surgical
System is a large purpose built robot controlled by a surgeon that performs minimally invasive
surgical procedures on patients. The system incorporates an ergonomically designed surgeon s
console, a patient side module with four interactive robotic arms, each with interchangeable surgical
instruments and a 3 dimensional endoscopic vision system. Powered by high tech supercomputers,
the surgeon s hand movements are scaled, filtered and then converted into precise movements of
the surgical attachments. The designers of the system are a team of doctors, engineers and

Surgeon Console: During an operation the surgeon is seated comfortably at the console while
viewing a 3 d image and controlling the robot. Image System This imaging system allows the
surgeon to see an enhanced 3 dimensional view of the operative field and it provides direct eye
hand instrument alignment and natural depth perception. This is possible through the use of a dual
lens endoscope with two high resolution cameras. The image is fed through two independent vision
channels that then run through an image processing stabilising computer system. The computer
reduces the noise of the image and enhances the edges of the objects seen. The surgeon can also
control the movement and zoom of the endoscope camera through hand controls and foot pedals.
The resultant image is then projected on a high resolution 3 D monitor. Control System The
surgeon s fingers crasp onto a joystick like perpheril instrument which then controls the precise

Analysis Of The Movie Julien Donkey Boy
In his sophomore film, Julien Donkey Boy (1999), director Harmony Korine tunes in to the
psychotic perspective of Julien (Ewan Bremner) a suburban schizophrenic with raisin black eyes
and detachable dentistry and his almost equally grotesque family, in a disorderly smear of violence,
incest, and finally, tragedy. The films fragmented narrativestructure, with its grainy and hand held
visual style, shudders on to the screen in a fusillade of discursive vignettes, that reflect, not only
the digital dexterity of its director, but the haunting psychosis of its titular protagonist. It is the
inarticulate jumble of Julien s psychology which is the organizing principle of the film. And, it is
precisely how we as viewers identify with this character and become complicit in his pathological
perspective which this essay will continue to explore.
In conventional Hollywood cinema, narrative is subservient to the viewer s overall pleasure and
ease of understanding, as it provides an overarching framework which may elucidate the
motivations and consequences of a character s actions. However, Korine expresses his dismay
with classical narrative, I can t stand plots, because I don t feel life has plots. There is no
beginning, middle, or end, and it upsets me when things are tied up so perfectly (Geoff King, 59).
As one may expect, JDB s narrative structure challenges our expectations, dissolving any sense of
linear continuity in favour of a cinema of unpredictability (Adrian

The Lost Ark
The Ark of the Covenant Has anyone actually come close to finding the lost Ark of the
Covenant? To solve that, archaeologists have been looking for two thousand years and have been
able to find out a few unique qualities about the Ark. The Ark of the Covenant is a wooden box
covered in gold that contained the Ten Commandment tablets (Wickersham). Four strong men had
to carry the Ark around due to the rule that it was never allowed to touch the ground (Parfitt 14).
At each stop, the Hebrews had to build a tabernacle for the Ark because it was so majestic. Also,
only the holy of holies could go inside the tabernacle to be in the presence of the Ark
(Wickersham). To answer the two thousand and five hundred year old mystery, archaeologists have

The best place to start is the old ancient ngoma was found and photographed by a river in between
Zimbabwe and South Africa (Parfitt 13). Seeing the photo encourages Parfitt to dive deeper into
the legend of the ngoma. Legend says the ngoma was carried by four poles and attained from
Jerusalem (Parfitt 13). As stated before, four poles, just like the Ark of the Covenant, carried the
ngoma. There may be a connection between the Ark and ngoma based on similarities from the
legends and facts. In addition to that, when Parfitt arrives at a museum in Zimbabwe he
investigated underground storage and found the ngoma (Parfitt 359). To Parfitt s surprise, the
ngoma was not coated in gold, but in fractured remnants. All the remnants matched the original
picture exactly. However, the only parts of the ngoma in its original state were the rings where
the poles the men carried would ve been placed (Parfitt 360). This proves that the ngoma was
found in Zimbabwe, Africa. Yet the best piece of evidence is, The Ark was here. In the dust of
its hiding place, said Tudor Parfitt (365). Just like the Ark, the ngoma was not permitted to touch
the ground, it was a place of God, the ngoma was carried on poles, and it was the same size
(Parfitt 361). The ngoma was the Ark and the Ark was the ngoma. It had been hidden so long in
underground storage, that no one knew it was the ancient Ark of the Covenant. Due to all of the
reasons, the mystery of the Ark of the Covenant was decoded and is proven

Throughout this design, the reversal design method was used throughout the fall semester. In this
study, there was many high and low scores on the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), which is

questions were answered on a scale of never (zero) to very often (four) pertaining to how often

According to Krysik and Finn (2013), Researchers use a reversal design to provide greater

Corporate Cultures Are Made Up Of Many Individuals
Corporate cultures are made up of many individuals, developing in different behaviors over time.
Several factors impact the way a business cultivates. From the character traits of its leadership in its
trade activities and industry environment. Corporate culture can develop from teams representing
divisions and departments within the business that can be made up of differentiated functions or
units that must be integrated into a unified effort if the organization is to be effective (Brown,
2011, p.127). In functioning, the departments pursue their goals from individuals coming together
for a common cause. For example, in the case of the Old Family Bank, which is departmentalizing
with a check processing, computer service, and an operation s department. The vice president of
managementresponsible for gathering data is selected to find out how the organizational behavioral
aspect of the business is functioning. Therefore, H. Day VP of management has decided to
scrutinize the turnover, absenteeism, and productivity statistics/figures of all the Banks department
s behavior (Brown, 2011, p.141). The gathering of the data provides a conclusion that was relevant
to the check processing and computer services departments. Let s look together at Day s diagnostic
process.
After observing the evidences of the case, it is knowledgeable that Day is applying a differential
and integration model to analyze the data from the departments scrutinizing. The differentiation and

Accordingly, Wilson and Weiss (2014) conducted a literature review for secondary information and
interviews for primary data geared towards establishing and assessing the extant experiences and
trends in staffing allocation. The interviews were undertaken among practitioners drawn from 20
varied agencies in America and a national focus group, which included 21 staffing professionals
(Wilson Weiss, 2014). The article also examined the weaknesses and strengths pertinent to
alternative techniques to determine staffing needs and to manage demand for workload while, at
the same time, minimizing usage of sworn officers. They concluded that effective and efficient
approaches consider performance and workload when staffing.
2.2 Police Staffing and the Approaches Used 2.2.1 Police staffing. According to Reaves (2012),
in September the year 2008, the federal organizations recruited close to120, 000 law
enforcement officers on full time basis; these officers were authorized to carry forearms and
make arrests in the US. Ideally, this was an equivalent of having 40 police officers against
100,000 citizens. As such, the number of officers at the federal level in America augmented by
nearly 15% representing 15,000 from 2004 through 2008 (Reaves, 2012). In addition, Reaves
(2012) ascertains that the federal organizations recruited about 1,600 officers in 2008, particularly

Essay Rear Window, by Alfred Hitchcock
In the movie, Rear Window, Alfred Hitchcock uses the story of a cripple free lance photographer,
Jeff Jeffries, to explain the twisted sense of society in the 1950 s. Hitchcock uses clever things
from the way the apartments are being filmed to the dialogue between Jeffries, Lisa, and Stella to
show societies interest in pain, tragedy, and discomfort, and in the end you see how tragedy is
what makes everyone happy. From the very beginning of Rear Window we encounter scenes where
Hitchcock shows Stellabeing sadistic, but we come to realize later that it is not just Stella. Stella is
just the only one who speaks out about it. You must observe all the other charactersactions and
reactions to truly see. Stella tells Jeffries... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the story goes on and she begins to believe Jeffries you sense that he is becoming more
attracted to her. The first big change is when she comes over and creates a believable story for
him. In the previous scene when they were kissing he wasn t focused at all, but after she tells him
the twisted story about the possible death of the neighbors he becomes intrigued by her and the
kissing then becomes passionate. The death of the neighbor s wife is what really allows you to see
how the society is corrupted. The biggest reactions of the neighbors in the movie come where
there is death. The first when the dog dies, and then when Jeffries is hanging from the window
about to fall to his death. The only truly happy couple, made obvious by Hitchcock during the
film, is the couple that death comes to, in the case of their dog. Everyone else in the film seems
miserable and isolated only brought together by death. The wife of the couple says it when she
makes a comment announcing how miserable of neighbors they are. Hitchcock uses misery,
tragedy, and death to show the emotions of his characters. At no point is this more obvious than the
end of the movie. Hitchcock spends the entire movie building up to this point and in the end he
makes it extremely clear how tragedy has changed the relationship of everyone. After the nagging
husbands murder of his wife has been confessed you see

Childcare Is An Attractive Business Opportunity
Background
Childcare in Australia reflects a market system, providing an attractive business opportunity, as the
Commonwealth guarantees up to 50% of the organisations income. However, markets and
childcare are a poor combination, with the price of quality services increasing, leaving individuals
of low socio economic status (SES) with poorer quality education (Phillips, 2009).
Currently, childcare in Australia encourages inflation and does not incentivise women to work
(FactCheck, 2015). The Commonwealth provides 3 primary payments, The Childcare Benefit
(CCB), The Childcare Rebate (CCR) and the Jobs, Education and Training Childcare Fee Assistance
(JETCCFA). Further details are in Appendix A.

This essentially doubled the price the consumer was willing to pay. In a supply and demand
market, this allowed the supplier to charge more, leading to hyperinflated prices.
The benchmark price means that the Commonwealth will pay 50% of the cost of the childcare, up
to a certain amount. For example, with a benchmark of $10/hour, parents would receive no more
compensation for $30/hour childcare than for $20/hour care.
Changes for low income earners (LIEs)
Those earning under $65,000/year may receive up to 12 hours of childcare/week with no activity
test, reduced from 24. The Childcare subsidy for these LIEs will be 85% of the fee, or the
benchmark price whichever is lower.
Changes for middle income earners (MIEs)
For MIEs, the childcare subsidy will be either 50% of the fees charged, or the benchmark price
whichever is lower.
There will be no cap on the amount of subsidies MIEs and LIEs can receive.
Changes for high income earners (HIEs)
HIE s cap will increase to $10,000 per child, from $7,500 received through the CCR. Their
childcare subsidy will be either 50% of fees, or the benchmark price whichever is lower.
Introduction of Nannies
The Government proposed an In Home Care program, permitting Nannies to deliver services to
those whose needs do not suit traditional childcare centres, such shift workers and those in remote
areas.

Essay on Characterization in Rappaccini’s Daughter

the purpose of this essay to demonstrate the types of characters present in Nathaniel Hawthorne s
Rappaccini s Daughter, whether static or dynamic, whether flat or round, and whether portrayed
through showing or telling.
The tale takes place in Padua, Italy, where a Naples student named Giovanni Guascanti has

The reader sees another character enter the tale with the doctor s shout in the infirm voice of a
person affected with inward disease, ` Beatrice! Beatrice! From his window Giovanni sees
approaching the doctor s daughter beautiful as the day, and with a bloom so deep and vivid that
one shade more would have been too much. Her abilities are exceptional because it is apparent to
Giovanni that she handled and inhaled the odor of several of the plants which her father had most
sedulously avoided. Beatrice exhibits an especially close relationship to the purple gem plant,
which Rappaccini is too fearful of tending anymore: ``Yes, my sister, my splendour, it
shall be Beatrice s task to nurse and serve thee; and thou shalt reward her with thy kisses and
perfumed breath, which to her is as the breath of life. Beatrice is slowly developed into a round
character, not as round as Giovanni however.
As the protagonist withdraws from the window of his room in order to lie down, the author shows
his usage of an omniscient narrator in the development of this character: Giovanni, closing the
lattice, went to his couch and dreamed of

The Security Of Information Security
This document is only a brief synopsis of the ever expanding and demanding field of information
security. It contains explanations, screenshots or visual cues, and tips on multiple subjects such as
system defenses, reducing vulnerabilities, and the presence of malicious threats. Smaller areas, such
as vulnerability assessment and penetration testing, are also covered because they are very
significant in the securityof information. While vulnerability assessment is a necessity, penetration
testing is purely an option to the security engineer.
What is Information Security ?
Information security is often defined as the security or assurance of information and it requires the
ability to maintain the authenticity of the information. The three common components of
information security are confidentiality, integrity, and availability and they form an essential base
for the overall picture of information security. Confidentiality is perhaps one of the most common
aspects of information security because any information that is withheld from the public within the
intentions to only allow access to authorized individuals is confidential. Encryption is often used to
maintain the confidentiality of information as encryption is one of multiple methods of access
control and Microsoft BitLocker is an example of access control encryption feature. Although
TrueCrypt is no longer a secure method of protecting data, I will discuss it further in the

Tristan And Iseult Comparative Essay
The Romance of Tristan and Iseult, by Joseph BГ©dier, and Jean Cocteau s 1943 cinematic
adaptation of the epic love story Eternal Return, both portray the love between Tristan and Iseult,
and Patrice and Natalie as an agonizing cancer that overpowers the lovers after they consume the
love potion. But the differences of how and when the lovepotion is administered, and the lovers
feelings for each other before the potion is drunk, reveal different depictions of the love potion
between the novel and the film.
The first difference between the film and the novel is when the two lovers drink the love potion.

instances before the love potion is drunk, Iseult is already showing signs of affection for Tristan,
albeit as much as the decorum of the day allows her. In the film, Natalie also shows her love for
Patrice before they consume the love potion. Like the book, she is upset when Patrice says that
he wants her to marry his uncle, and later on their journey from the island, when Patrice asks her
if she thought he was proposing to her, she scornfully replies you are a child, but cannot stop the
tears from forming in her eyes. When Morholt comes looking for Patrice at Natalie s home, she

because she loves Patrice and wishes to protect him from Morholt, who is there to get his

Based on the information that is required for this paper, I would be writing about my Front of the
House experience here at The Dining Lab at Monroe College. The three challenges that I would be
writing about would be about option number 1, working within the dining room environment. With
that being said, the three challenger that I choose to write about when it comes to the Front of the
House Operations are:
1.Steps of Service
2.Team work or Lack thereof
3.Mentally
According to Hayes (2013), Steps of Service is the order of tasks a Server needs to follow and
accomplish to deliver the Dining Experience .
Examples of Standards of Service (Hayes, HP225 Dining Room Management Syllabus, 2013):
1)Serve from the left
2)Clear from the right
3)All drinks are served from the right side with the right hand
4)All drinks are carried to and from the table on a tray
5)The use of seat numbers
6)The coffee cup is served from the right, on the right, with the handle at a 67.5 degree angle from
the 12 o clock position of the guest. (Yes, details within the standards can get this specific)
Examples of Steps of Service (Hayes, HGCC Dining Room Steps of Service, 2009) :
1.Member/ Guest is seated
2.Water Delivery пѓ Within 30 Seconds
3.Server Greets Member(s) and their Guest (s) within 30 Seconds
a.If server cannot greet Member(s) and their Guest within that time frame, at the very least
acknowledge their presence and state you will be with them shortly

Confessions Of A Mormon Essay
Confessions of a Mormon Girl Turned Dominatrix... Snow Mercy Interview by Corpsy G C:
How long were you a Mormon? SM: My family is Mormon, so I was born into the faith. I moved
away from the Church as a teenager and haven t been back since. G C: What are the best and
worst parts of being a Mormon? SM: Mormons are very community based and help out their own
kind. If you are down on your luck, the community will help you out with food, clothes, and
emotional support. They have a strong work ethic and urge everyone, even kids, to do volunteer
work. In addition, they foster leadership skills starting with young kids. As a teenager, I was
president of my youth group, for example, and all of us were expected to pitch in with Sunday
school presentations starting at the age of 5 years old. Mormons have activities all week long
like sports, family home meetings, scripture studies, and home visits that keep you very busy. I
owe a lot of my leadership and organizational skills to the Mormon Church. The worst parts of
being Mormon, in my opinion, are personal, and vary. Many complain about the no caffeine rule,
the no sex outside marriage rule, and the 10% tithing rule. For me, I didn t like how they are socially

Argumentative Essay On Anthrax
Introduction
Anthrax is most commonly known as the 2001 Bioterror attacks ( CDC, 2016). After 9/11
several letters tainted with Anthrax were sent out, infecting and killing several people in a
matter of days. The word Anthrax derived from Greek word Anthrakos, that means coal. It is
believed to have a history that stems from the book of Exodus 5th and 6th plagues. This story
tells how Moses took soot and tossed it into the air. The dust covered all of Egypt and boils covered
Pharoah s animals and his people (Decker , 2003). Bacillus anthracis is the organism that causes
anthrax. The spore bearing bacillus can lay dormant in the soil for years or decades. In the soil is
where the bacteria waits for a host to multiply and vegetate. Anthrax is mainly a disease of animals
such as sheep, cattle, and goats. The animals would get infected when in contact with contaminated
soil. Humans became infected, when in contact with the infected animals. In the late 19th century

Blood and Digestion
Blood a journey through the body. You might find yourself asking, what does blood have to do with
digestion, respiration and circulation? Hopefully, after the presentation all of your questions will be
answered.
When a person thinks of digestion they usually think about what happens in the stomach. A lot has
happened to digest the food way before it gets to the stomach. It starts in the mouth or oral cavity.
It is a process called mechanical digestion. First, Mastication begins. Mastication is the chewing of
the food. A person will crush, grind and tear the food apart. That gets the food ready for

Like the nose it also filters dust and other particles from reaching the lungs, and it has mucous
membranes to warm and moisten the air. When the air leaves the pharynx it moves on to the
larynx. The larynx is also called the voice box. It not only remains open for speech, but also during
respiration. The larynx merges with the trachea just below the vocal cords. The trachea is also
called the wind pipe, and it is a one inch tube that connects to the bronchi. The bronchi divide into
the right and left mainstream bronchi. After entering a lung each side branches off forming many
smaller passages. In the center of the bronchi is the lumen. It is the central opening where the air
passes through.
The lungs are sponges that fill with air, and fill every inch the surrounding thoracic cavity. The
lungs contain lobes. The lobes divide each lung, and the right lung being bigger has more lobe
divisions. The pulmonary veins enter here and exit here as well. Inside the lungs are clusters of
air sacks that are called alveoli. The alveoli are part of the bronchioles that enter each lung. The
oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged in the lungs. The exchange happens from a small blood
vassal nod the alveoli. When the oxygen exchange is completed the inhaled air moves into the
blood. While the oxygen moves into the blood the carbon dioxide is exhaled by the lungs. Before
the blood can be moved properly it has to be made into oxyhemoglobin.

Summary Of The Repentant Magdalen
When approaching The Repentant Magdalen by Georges de La Tour, who is best known for his
unique use of light, the atmosphere makes an immediate impression of subdued vulnerability an
unusual description for a piece of artwork from an era of theatrical expression and palpable,
dramatic tension. As a French Baroque oil painting, The Repentant Magdalen stands out as a result
of comparison to its peers, but when viewed alone as an individual piece, it instead stands out for its
ability to form a personal relationship between the audience and the subjects of the piece. The
Repentant Magdalen s tenebristic light, intimate setting, and illusionistic style all reinforce Georges
La Tour s overall theme in creating an intimate setting to remind his audience of the forgiving
nature of Catholicism, as a response to the unrest within the Catholic church. Measuring at 44 ВЅ x
36 ВЅ , The Repentant Magdalen is large enough that audiences feel immersed into its intense
atmosphere. The size is proportioned in a way that audiences are able to feel Mary Magdalen s

glimpse of movement in the mirror on the table. The setting a dimly lit desk with a skull on a

would have seemed very casual, considering the subject is a biblical figure, and would have

The Effect Of Visitor Interaction On Primate Species In Zoos
In the wild, interactions between humans and animals are often limited. In captivity, this dynamic
is altered as a result of humans being allowed to be in close proximity to the animals while they
are on display. Zoos, especially in Europe and North America, strive to educate the public about
their animals and the conservation efforts to help save them in the wild (Hosey, 2005). In order to
ensure that visitors leave the zoofeeling as if they can make a difference, visitors need to feel a
connection with the animals. A way in which this is done is to design exhibits that put the public
closer to the animals. By doing so, it is common that animals in captivity can be subject to
interaction with the guests, creating a potential for visitor... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Different populations have been seen reacting negatively, while others have reacted positively
or neutrally. In Wells (2005) it was suggested that crowd size had a negative impact on the
gorillas at the Belfast Zoological Gardens in Northern Ireland. The gorillas had increased
aggression during large crowd sizes and appeared less stressful during low visitor periods.
However, some populations of gorillas did not show an increase in undesirable behavior in
relation to larger crowd size. In Kuhar (2008) there were no significant findings that suggested
crowd size played any role in the behavior of the gorillas. In a study conducted by Ross and Lukas
(2006) it was found that during crowds of high density or low density alike, there were no
significant differences in gorilla behavior. Interestingly, in Wells (2006) the researchers suggest
that some auditory stimulation, such as that from visitors, can be a form of enrichment for the
gorillas rather than a source of stress. Similarly, in Stoinski et al., (2012) there were no
significant effects of crowd size for some of the behaviors they analyzed. Other behaviors they
observed did change in relation to crowd size such as contact aggression and undesirable behavior
but those behaviors changes were not seen as significant and it is suggested that crowds may affect

Persuasive Essay On LGBT
Olabode Adimula
LLA 201
Essay Assignment #2 The LGBT community in the United States has always had massive
difficulty fitting into our society. For many years they put up with constant mistreatment and other
forms of abuse coming from the those who do not agree with their lifestyle. They have for long
advocated for the acceptance of their existence and punishment for crimes committed against them.
One of the hardest battles the community has had to face was the right to marry in a society that
still holds the values of a traditional relationship which is between a male and female. The struggle
was quite harsh but it all paid off by 2015 when the supreme court granted gay couples the right to
marry. This historical decision did not go without outcry and criticisms. Most of the dissatisfaction
came from those who hold very religious values and beliefs that claims homosexuality is a sin.
Religion has always been a part of the American way of life since the nation s founding and with
that homosexuality has been demonized throughout our society. Now that gay couple possess the
legal rights to have a marriage license, religious companies and/or stores are now denying service
to LGBT couples as they believe it sinful on their behalf to even take part. Many people gay or
straight who fought for gay rights believe these is pure discrimination and that stores should not

The At The North Texas Teen Book
Hi everyone! This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending The North Texas Teen Book

life. This post is just an overview of some pictures and the things I did. Let s begin! (All the
bloggers/booktubers I mention will be linked at the end!)
Friday
Friday was educator s day, but they had an author luncheon that was open to the public. The authors
at the luncheon were Sarah Dessen, Ruta Sepetys, and E. Lockhart. I met up with my friend,
Avery, to go to the event. As we were sitting in the lobby, we saw Marie Lu walk in and I started
freaking out. I wanted to go and ask for a picture, but I was too shy to go up to her. We went
inside and sat at a table close to the front (closest to the reserve author table).
As we were sitting there, I look in the corner and Ruta Sepetys (AKA ONE OF MY FAVORITE
AUTHORS) is standing in the corner. Avery and I went over to talk to Ruta, and she was
absolutely adorable. If you ever have the chance to meet Ruta, please seize your opportunity
because she s absolutely brilliant. Avery and I got a picture with her.

The Death Of Artemio Cruz
The Death of Artemio Cruz is a novel written in 1962 by Carlos Fuentes chronicling the singular
life and destiny of a man raised in the lower classes of Mexico, who manages to rise into political
and economical power through intrigue and Manichean maneuverings. The following book critique
will contain a summary of the novel and provide some examples and parallels on core course
concepts evident in the story, hopefully demonstrating what learning was obtained using the lens of
global healthmatters. Some of my personal musings and reflections will be included in the paper,
and provide food for thought, reflections on universal problems commonly known if not shared by
us all.
Book Summary Beginning with his participation in the Mexican Revolutionary War as a young
soldier embracing Marxist ideals bent on overthrowing the established, corrupt political structure in
place, The Death of Artemio Cruz details the gradual rise in political and economical influence of
our character in the aftermath of a successful revolution. The main plot underlines a striking
contradiction, as the protagonist eventually espouses principles he has long eschewed, becoming
the exploiter instead of the champion of the downtrodden, betraying the principles he had fought
so long and hard for. The narrative begins while he lies helplessly on his deathbed, in the throes of
drug and disease induced delirium, and through a series of flashbacks features his somewhat addled
reminiscences of a (n) (in)

Dr. Bernard, Canada s Nine Non Partisan Senators
Introduction In October 2016, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau named Nova Scotia s Wanda
Thomas Bernard as one of Canada s nine non partisan senators (Williams, 2016). According to
Semansky (2016), Dr. Bernard, who serves as the university s special advisor, diversity and
inclusiveness, [is] the first African Nova Scotian woman to serve in the Senate Chamber (para. 2).
In response to the news, Bernard has stated that equity for all is [her] primary goal in life. To be
able to enter the Senate with that perspective and contribute to the country is an incredible
privilege, one that [she] knows [she] will be accountable for (Semansky, 2016, para. 7). While
Trudeau has named diversity as a priority within the Canadian Parliament,... Show more content on

In this section, I will briefly discuss the effects of Trudeau s Senate reforms and argue that reform is
better than abolishment. Trudeau s three phased Senate reforms give minority group leaders an
opportunity to represent their communities. The reforms attempt to shift the focus from gaining
support for the Liberal party, to a collection of different and diverse minds within the Senate. The
first phase of the reforms focused on the [removal of] all senators from the national Liberal caucus ,
which inherently suggested that senators [no longer] have formal or organic ties with the Liberal
caucus, nor do they have any organizational, financial or other formal responsibilities within the
Liberal Party (Dion, 2015, para. 5). Going from there, the [creation of] a new, nonpartisan, merit
based, broad and diverse process to advise the prime minister on Senate appointments was the
second item on the agenda (Dion, 2015, para. 6). Finally, the third phase targeted the inclusion of
marginalized groups, such as women and minorities, in the Senate (Dion, 2015). Therefore, Trudeau
s appointments are changing the direction of the Senate to include historically oppressed minorities
and their representatives. That being stated, one particular argument that has been raised in
opposition to Senate reforms is that the upper house is no longer relevant and should be abolished
(Maclean s, 2013). The website suggests that

College Go To College Essay
College Is the Best Thing You Can Do for Yourself
Many high school seniors choose to go to college over getting a job. They all make this decision
with the belief that it will be more beneficial in the end. With this hope in mind, students are willing
to pay thousands of dollars anticipating that it will have a greater payoff in the end. Although many
people oppose this theory, students worldwide are willing to take the chance. Attending schoolfor a
couple more years is well worth it. With the goal of overall security and eradication of financial
stress, attending college is more likely to foster success in the end. College teaches young adults
valuable life lessons that benefit them in the future. The biggest lesson college taught me is that
I m fully responsible for everything that happens to me says Benjamin Houy (Brooks 1),
meaning that your professors will not make sure you are in class and getting your work done on
time. At the same time, you will learn how to take charge of your own learning. Most of the time
in college, the answers do not come easily, you ll have plenty of opportunities trying to find a
way to acquire the skills you need to turn your dreams into a reality (Brooks 1). While attending
college, you will be gaining knowledge on tasks like budgeting, multi tasking, note taking, and
working with others. As these lessons are not taught in courses (Hoyt 1), they are learned
throughout your experiences during your time on campus. If you don t worry about yourself in
college, nobody else is going to do it for you states Elizabeth Hoyt, explaining how you need to
take care of yourself and become independent. These skills become especially useful in the
workplace when you will have to work together with co workers to get an assignment done for
your employer. College has the ability to change a person s life in many positive ways. Each year
you attend college, the higher your annual salary becomes. Rachel Beckstead explains how adults
with a high school diploma earn $35,256 while those who obtained a master s degree earn an
average of $69,732. Nearly double than if you ended your education after high school. As going to
college open doors, you can increase your job options simply by

Desobry Mission Command
INTRODUCTION This mission command analysis review the battle of Team Desobry at the
town of Noville, Belgium. These events took place between 18 to 20 December 1944 which
impacted later on the battle fought at Bastogne during the World War II period. It is also the goal
of this review to discuss and analyze three mission command principles displayed during this
battle: (1), (2) and (3). One of the main protagonist forces to be part of this history was the 20th
Armored Infantry Battalion, 10th Armored Division. The commanding officer of this element was
Major William R. Desobry. (During/Among) the events of World War II the German forces were

Therefore this represented a disadvantages for the American forces since they did not have the
higher ground. To increase the handicap even more, the weather at the time was predominantly
foggy, no maps of the area were available for the arriving commanders and team Desobry arrived
at Noville 18 December at 23:00 hours, depriving them from the opportunity to take initial
advantage of the area natural defenses. Desobry established teams at Bourcy road, Houffalize road
and the road to Vaux. Those teams consisted of an understrength platoon of infantry and a section
of medium tanks.В№ Through the night the Engineer troops were ordered to set up a mine field in
support of the roadblocks, however, they were unable to do so due to the heavy transit of remanent
units fleeing to the west. Many elements from the 9th Armor Division s Combat Command R, the
28th Infantry Division and several engineer units were drafted through the night by Desobry s

Single Mom Research Paper
August 15,1998 I was born in Miami Florida. To a single mother, my father who is absent in my
life, was late while my mother was in labor. My mother felt no pain while conceiving me, unlike
most women who scream in agony, she believes that was a sign from God declaring my fate. My
mother says I am destiny for greatness, and I believe her. Growing up was fun, I was very blessed
and well taken care of. Being the only child of a single motherwas quite boring, but I always got
what I wanted. In my youth, I traveled a ton, mostly wherever my mother could find work, she was
a LPN (License Practical Nurse) with an abundant amount of experience, which gave her an edge in
the work force. I can recall living in Georgia, Homestead, Antigua, and the Bahamas.

  • 2. Impact Of Arch On Roman Architecture The development of concrete and the arch was integral to the advancement of Roman architecture. Both had a great impact on the people of Rome from all walks of life. When designing a building, the load that must be supported is a very important consideration. Various building materials will each have their own levels of strength and ability to support loads. In addition to this, the way in which the building material is utilized may also play a role in the ability of the building to support large loads. The implementation of concrete as a building material led to much stronger walls and supports in Roman buildings. Additionally, the development of the arch was revolutionary in its ability to support loads. The types and sizes of structures that the Romans could build became unlike anything seen before, and they also became very interested in working with interior spaces, as well (Ambler, n.d.). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The arch continues to feature prominently in...designs and with good reason: Its semicircular structure elegantly distributes compression through its entire form and diverts weight onto its two abutments (Lamb, 2000). The key to the structure is located in the center of the arch and is called a keystone. Remove it and the entire structure collapses. The entire structure is dependent upon the architect not designing an opening that is too wide. That would also lead to increased pressure and decreased structural integrity (Lamb, 2000). As you can imagine, the arch opened the door to a great many changes in structural design. The Romans utilized it in their homes and in their public buildings. It found its way into bridge design, as well. Yet, the arch alone does not explain the amazing advancements made in Roman architecture. Concrete also play a huge part in shaping Roman construction. As such, it is also important to understand exactly what concrete ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples Of Powerlessness In The Giver The Assumptions of Power, Powerlessness, and Existentialism in Louis Lowry s The Giver In Lois Lowry s book The Giver, there is a pivotal scene where Jonas, the plot s main character, was bound to being the new receiver of his community. The community is a place where there is no war, no fear, or pain. The community could not make choices and the members of the community did not have any feelings. As the plot progresses, the chief elder provided the children with their perspective roles in the community in the Ceremony of Twelve. Phillip II was also a very simplistic guy which means he was very relaxed on things involving him and the people around him. This is what everyday life is described as in the short story, Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut. Throughout the story, Vonnegut tells the reader what society would be like if everyone was average. Also, Vonnegut exaggerates what people would have to do in order to be equal, including wearing handicaps which deprive people of showing their strengths. These include; having to wear bags of birdshot for the strong and the beautiful being forced to wear masks to hide their faces. • 7. Analysis Of The Movie Julien Donkey Boy In his sophomore film, Julien Donkey Boy (1999), director Harmony Korine tunes in to the psychotic perspective of Julien (Ewan Bremner) a suburban schizophrenic with raisin black eyes and detachable dentistry and his almost equally grotesque family, in a disorderly smear of violence, incest, and finally, tragedy. The films fragmented narrativestructure, with its grainy and hand held visual style, shudders on to the screen in a fusillade of discursive vignettes, that reflect, not only the digital dexterity of its director, but the haunting psychosis of its titular protagonist. It is the inarticulate jumble of Julien s psychology which is the organizing principle of the film. And, it is precisely how we as viewers identify with this character and become complicit in his pathological perspective which this essay will continue to explore. In conventional Hollywood cinema, narrative is subservient to the viewer s overall pleasure and ease of understanding, as it provides an overarching framework which may elucidate the motivations and consequences of a character s actions. However, Korine expresses his dismay with classical narrative, I can t stand plots, because I don t feel life has plots. There is no beginning, middle, or end, and it upsets me when things are tied up so perfectly (Geoff King, 59). As one may expect, JDB s narrative structure challenges our expectations, dissolving any sense of linear continuity in favour of a cinema of unpredictability (Adrian ... • 8. The Lost Ark The Ark of the Covenant Has anyone actually come close to finding the lost Ark of the Covenant? To solve that, archaeologists have been looking for two thousand years and have been able to find out a few unique qualities about the Ark. The Ark of the Covenant is a wooden box covered in gold that contained the Ten Commandment tablets (Wickersham). Four strong men had to carry the Ark around due to the rule that it was never allowed to touch the ground (Parfitt 14). At each stop, the Hebrews had to build a tabernacle for the Ark because it was so majestic. Also, only the holy of holies could go inside the tabernacle to be in the presence of the Ark (Wickersham). As stated before, four poles, just like the Ark of the Covenant, carried the ngoma. There may be a connection between the Ark and ngoma based on similarities from the legends and facts. In addition to that, when Parfitt arrives at a museum in Zimbabwe he investigated underground storage and found the ngoma (Parfitt 359). To Parfitt s surprise, the ngoma was not coated in gold, but in fractured remnants. All the remnants matched the original picture exactly. However, the only parts of the ngoma in its original state were the rings where the poles the men carried would ve been placed (Parfitt 360). This proves that the ngoma was found in Zimbabwe, Africa. Yet the best piece of evidence is, The Ark was here. In the dust of its hiding place, said Tudor Parfitt (365). Just like the Ark, the ngoma was not permitted to touch the ground, it was a place of God, the ngoma was carried on poles, and it was the same size (Parfitt 361). The ngoma was the Ark and the Ark was the ngoma. It had been hidden so long in underground storage, that no one knew it was the ancient Ark of the Covenant. The death of the neighbor s wife is what really allows you to see how the society is corrupted. The biggest reactions of the neighbors in the movie come where there is death. The first when the dog dies, and then when Jeffries is hanging from the window about to fall to his death. The only truly happy couple, made obvious by Hitchcock during the film, is the couple that death comes to, in the case of their dog. Everyone else in the film seems miserable and isolated only brought together by death. The wife of the couple says it when she makes a comment announcing how miserable of neighbors they are. Hitchcock uses misery, tragedy, and death to show the emotions of his characters. At no point is this more obvious than the end of the movie. Like the book, she is upset when Patrice says that he wants her to marry his uncle, and later on their journey from the island, when Patrice asks her if she thought he was proposing to her, she scornfully replies you are a child, but cannot stop the tears from forming in her eyes. When Morholt comes looking for Patrice at Natalie s home, she says that she hates Patrice and will have him out of there in the morning. She is saying this because she loves Patrice and wishes to protect him from Morholt, who is there to get his revenge. Summary Of The Repentant Magdalen When approaching The Repentant Magdalen by Georges de La Tour, who is best known for his unique use of light, the atmosphere makes an immediate impression of subdued vulnerability an unusual description for a piece of artwork from an era of theatrical expression and palpable, dramatic tension. As a French Baroque oil painting, The Repentant Magdalen stands out as a result of comparison to its peers, but when viewed alone as an individual piece, it instead stands out for its ability to form a personal relationship between the audience and the subjects of the piece. The Repentant Magdalen s tenebristic light, intimate setting, and illusionistic style all reinforce Georges La Tour s overall theme in creating an intimate setting to remind his audience of the forgiving nature of Catholicism, as a response to the unrest within the Catholic church. Measuring at 44 ВЅ x 36 ВЅ , The Repentant Magdalen is large enough that audiences feel immersed into its intense atmosphere. For many years they put up with constant mistreatment and other forms of abuse coming from the those who do not agree with their lifestyle. They have for long advocated for the acceptance of their existence and punishment for crimes committed against them. One of the hardest battles the community has had to face was the right to marry in a society that still holds the values of a traditional relationship which is between a male and female. The struggle was quite harsh but it all paid off by 2015 when the supreme court granted gay couples the right to marry. This historical decision did not go without outcry and criticisms. Most of the dissatisfaction came from those who hold very religious values and beliefs that claims homosexuality is a sin. Religion has always been a part of the American way of life since the nation s founding and with that homosexuality has been demonized throughout our society. Now that gay couple possess the legal rights to have a marriage license, religious companies and/or stores are now denying service to LGBT couples as they believe it sinful on their behalf to even take part. Many people gay or straight who fought for gay rights believe these is pure discrimination and that stores should not have the right to deny service for any customer for any reason. However, this belief is unconstitutional and goes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The At The North Texas Teen Book Hi everyone! This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending The North Texas Teen Book Festical in Irving, TX. It was so much fun, and honestly it was one of the best weekends of my life. This post is just an overview of some pictures and the things I did. Let s begin! (All the bloggers/booktubers I mention will be linked at the end!) Friday Friday was educator s day, but they had an author luncheon that was open to the public. The authors at the luncheon were Sarah Dessen, Ruta Sepetys, and E. Lockhart. I met up with my friend, Avery, to go to the event. As we were sitting in the lobby, we saw Marie Lu walk in and I started freaking out. I wanted to go and ask for a picture, but I was too shy to go up to her. We went inside and sat at a table close to the front (closest to the reserve author table). As we were sitting there, I look in the corner and Ruta Sepetys (AKA ONE OF MY FAVORITE AUTHORS) is standing in the corner. Avery and I went over to talk to Ruta, and she was absolutely adorable. If you ever have the chance to meet Ruta, please seize your opportunity because she s absolutely brilliant. Avery and I got a picture with her. img_5994 1 We finally got the courage to take a picture with Marie Lu, so here s my picture with Marie: IMG_0612 I was able to get my entire Legend trilogy signed by her the next day. I didn t get a chance to talk to her during the signing because there wasn t enough time. After getting a picture with Marie, I sat down to start ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Death Of Artemio Cruz The Death of Artemio Cruz is a novel written in 1962 by Carlos Fuentes chronicling the singular life and destiny of a man raised in the lower classes of Mexico, who manages to rise into political and economical power through intrigue and Manichean maneuverings. The following book critique will contain a summary of the novel and provide some examples and parallels on core course concepts evident in the story, hopefully demonstrating what learning was obtained using the lens of global healthmatters. Some of my personal musings and reflections will be included in the paper, and provide food for thought, reflections on universal problems commonly known if not shared by us all. Book Summary Beginning with his participation in the Mexican Revolutionary War as a young soldier embracing Marxist ideals bent on overthrowing the established, corrupt political structure in place, The Death of Artemio Cruz details the gradual rise in political and economical influence of our character in the aftermath of a successful revolution. The main plot underlines a striking contradiction, as the protagonist eventually espouses principles he has long eschewed, becoming the exploiter instead of the champion of the downtrodden, betraying the principles he had fought so long and hard for. The narrative begins while he lies helplessly on his deathbed, in the throes of drug and disease induced delirium, and through a series of flashbacks features his somewhat addled reminiscences of a (n) (in) ... • 41. Dr. Bernard, Canada s Nine Non Partisan Senators Introduction In October 2016, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau named Nova Scotia s Wanda Thomas Bernard as one of Canada s nine non partisan senators (Williams, 2016). According to Semansky (2016), Dr. Bernard, who serves as the university s special advisor, diversity and inclusiveness, [is] the first African Nova Scotian woman to serve in the Senate Chamber (para. 2). In response to the news, Bernard has stated that equity for all is [her] primary goal in life. To be able to enter the Senate with that perspective and contribute to the country is an incredible privilege, one that [she] knows [she] will be accountable for (Semansky, 2016, para. 7). While Trudeau has named diversity as a priority within the Canadian Parliament,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this section, I will briefly discuss the effects of Trudeau s Senate reforms and argue that reform is better than abolishment. Trudeau s three phased Senate reforms give minority group leaders an opportunity to represent their communities. The reforms attempt to shift the focus from gaining support for the Liberal party, to a collection of different and diverse minds within the Senate. The first phase of the reforms focused on the [removal of] all senators from the national Liberal caucus , which inherently suggested that senators [no longer] have formal or organic ties with the Liberal caucus, nor do they have any organizational, financial or other formal responsibilities within the Liberal Party (Dion, 2015, para. 5). Going from there, the [creation of] a new, nonpartisan, merit based, broad and diverse process to advise the prime minister on Senate appointments was the second item on the agenda (Dion, 2015, para. 6). Finally, the third phase targeted the inclusion of marginalized groups, such as women and minorities, in the Senate (Dion, 2015). Therefore, Trudeau s appointments are changing the direction of the Senate to include historically oppressed minorities and their representatives. That being stated, one particular argument that has been raised in opposition to Senate reforms is that the upper house is no longer relevant and should be abolished (Maclean s, 2013). • 42. College Go To College Essay College Is the Best Thing You Can Do for Yourself Many high school seniors choose to go to college over getting a job. They all make this decision with the belief that it will be more beneficial in the end. With this hope in mind, students are willing to pay thousands of dollars anticipating that it will have a greater payoff in the end. Although many people oppose this theory, students worldwide are willing to take the chance. Attending schoolfor a couple more years is well worth it. With the goal of overall security and eradication of financial stress, attending college is more likely to foster success in the end. College teaches young adults valuable life lessons that benefit them in the future. The biggest lesson college taught me is that I m fully responsible for everything that happens to me says Benjamin Houy (Brooks 1), meaning that your professors will not make sure you are in class and getting your work done on time. At the same time, you will learn how to take charge of your own learning. Most of the time in college, the answers do not come easily, you ll have plenty of opportunities trying to find a way to acquire the skills you need to turn your dreams into a reality (Brooks 1). While attending college, you will be gaining knowledge on tasks like budgeting, multi tasking, note taking, and working with others. As these lessons are not taught in courses (Hoyt 1), they are learned throughout your experiences during your time on campus. If you don t worry about yourself in college, nobody else is going to do it for you states Elizabeth Hoyt, explaining how you need to take care of yourself and become independent. These skills become especially useful in the workplace when you will have to work together with co workers to get an assignment done for your employer. College has the ability to change a person s life in many positive ways. Each year you attend college, the higher your annual salary becomes.
